The present study evaluated the effects of feeding frequency during the grow‐out phase of Litopenaeus vannameiin biofloc system. The experiment comprised of four treatments with three replicates each, corresponding to the following feeding frequencies: one (8:00 a.m.), two (8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.), three (8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.) and four times a day (8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.). Zootechnical performance and digestive enzyme activity were monitored for 63 days. At the end of the experiment, the highest survival rates were found for the individuals fed three and four times a day. Wet weight gain (6.63 g) and specific growth rate (3.46% per day) of the individuals fed three times a day were significantly higher compared to animals fed one and four times a day, but did not differ significantly to the group fed twice a day (6.15 g and 3.46% per day, respectively). The digestive enzyme activities were not affected by the feeding frequency, but negative correlations were found between these activities and shrimp weight. It is recommended that L. vannamei should be fed three times a day during the grow‐out phase in a biofloc system under the conditions used in this study.  相似文献

In shrimp farms, food partitioning during the course of the day is contradictory, ethology studies may help in determining the proper frequency. Litopenaeus vannamei juveniles were placed in 30 L aquariums (41 m−2), exposed to a 12:12 h light–dark cycle. Feeding was provided at 10% of biomass three, four and seven times per day, with observations made in 15 min h−1 windows, initiated after the ration was offered. Latency to access the feeding tray and to start eating was recorded using instantaneous focal sampling and digestive tract filling (DTF) by the continuous focal method. Weight gain was recorded at the end of the experiment. We performed seven repetitions, with 28 individuals observed for 33 days for each treatment (490 h of observation). The three-times offering induced less latency for accessing the tray and for ingesting the feed as well as a higher DTF when compared with the other frequencies. Animals fed three and four times had similar weight gains, and were greater than those fed seven times. Our results indicate that a more spaced food offering stimulates the search for and ingestion of feed. As compared with other frequencies, the three-times-per-day option assumes lower labour costs and a more efficient use of the feed.  相似文献

This study was carried out to determine the effect of feeding time on growth parameters, food conversion ratio, and survival rate of Huso huso fingerlings (2.11 ± 0.03 g) over a period of five weeks. Fish in triplicate tanks were fed a commercial pelleted diet four times every 24 h on one of four schedules: at 08:00, 11:00, 14:00, and 17:00 h (day feeding); at 08:00, 12:00, 18:00, and 22:00 h (day/night feeding); at 18:00, 21:00, 24:00, and 06:00 h (night feeding); or at 08:00, 12:00, 18:00, and 22:00 h (full dark feeding). At the end of the experimental period, fish in the day-fed group had significantly (P < 0.05) better final weight, daily growth rate, specific growth rate, survival, condition factor, and food conversion ratio than day/night and night-fed groups. Performance of fish fed under full dark conditions was intermediate between day-fed and the other groups. In terms of rearing costs, daytime feeding of Huso huso is the most efficient.  相似文献

This study evaluated the zootechnical performance and enzymatic activity of Litopenaeus vannamei reared at different feeding frequencies during the nursery phase in biofloc system. The experiment consisted of four treatments, corresponding to the feeding frequencies of one, two, three and four times a day. Twelve‐day postlarvae (PL12) were stocked in 12 circular tanks at a density of 3,000/m2 for 35 days. These tanks were connected to a recirculation system supplied by a matrix tank where biofloc management was carried out. Water quality remained within acceptable limits for the species over the experiment. Food frequencies had no influence on survival (88.5–92.7%) and feed conversion ratio (1.5–1.7), but the final mean weight (0.43–0.56 g) was significantly higher in shrimp fed three times a day. This fact is probably associated with amylase (14.58 U/mg) and trypsin (23.84 U/mg) activities, as well as the significant increase of chymotrypsin (11.74 U/mg) and lipase (1.27 U/mg) in shrimp of this treatment at the end of culture period. Feeding three times a day provided the highest enzymatic activity and the best zootechnical performance of L. vannamei during the nursery phase in biofloc system.  相似文献

The effects of photoperiod (12L:12D and 18L:6D) and feeding frequency (three, four and five evenly spaced daily feedings) of 10% biomass per day during light hours on growth and stress response of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) fingerlings were evaluated. The interaction between photoperiod and feeding frequency was not significant (P>0.05). Faster growth was observed in fish exposed to an 18L:6D photoperiod (P<0.01). The feed conversion efficiency (FCE) was also better with an 18L:6D photoperiod (P<0.05). Fish fed four and five meals per day grew similarly (P>0.05) and faster than when fed only three meals (P<0.01). The FCE with four or five meals per day was better than with three meals (P<0.05). At harvest, the proximate composition was similar in all treatments (P>0.05). Stress indicators (cortisol, glucose and haematocrit) did not differ between photoperiods (P<0.05). The results showed that 0.9–8.0 g Persian sturgeon fingerlings should be reared with an 18L:6D photoperiod and fed four times per day to obtain good growth and FCE.  相似文献

This study verified the effects of feeding frequency on growth, blood metabolites, digestive enzyme activities (alkaline protease, acid protease, amylase and lipase) and proximate composition of Lebranche mullet juveniles. Fish with initial weight of 13.6 ± 0.7 g were distributed in twelve tanks and fed one, three, five and seven times per day to apparent satiation for 60 days. While the final weight of fish fed only once a day attained just 15.4 ± 0.7 g, those fed five or seven times per day reached 54.0 ± 12.1 and 55.9 ± 6.1 g respectively. The feed consumption also increased at high frequencies, but feed efficiency was higher (76.7 ± 11.7%) when mullets were fed three times per day. In general, increasing feeding frequencies also increased blood content of metabolites (total protein, glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol), possibly due to increased intake and absorption of nutrients. The response of digestive enzymes correlated with feeding efficiency, with higher activity in fish fed three or five times per day. Concerning whole‐body proximate composition, no significant difference was observed in protein, but lipid content increased significantly with feed frequency. Based on growth performance and biochemical responses, we recommend feeding Lebranche mullet juveniles three to five times per day.  相似文献

Salt‐water recirculation systems using automatic feeders are a new frontier for marine aquaculture. The definition of the feed frequency is fundamental for the correct use of automatic feeders. Different feeding frequencies (1, 3, 6, 12 and 18 times a day) using automatic feeders were evaluated in two experiments on the performance of the dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) in salt‐water recirculation system. In the first experiment, three feeding frequencies were evaluated: feeding once a day; three times a day and six times a day. In the second experiment, three feeding frequencies were evaluated: feeding six times a day; 12 times a day and 18 times a day. Waters parameters (temperature, salinity, oxygen level, total ammonia, pH and oxidation‐reduction potential) were maintained at specific ranges for the species. Among all the evaluated frequencies, 12 times a day provided the best productive performance, obtaining superior results for final weight, final biomass, specific growth rate and daily weight gain. For juveniles of the dusky grouper, the ideal feeding frequency is regular feedings every 2 hours, which is impractical to run without the use of automatic feeders.  相似文献

Applied ethology can help to improve Litopenaeus vannamei aquaculture. Our purpose was to demonstrate an influence of stocking density on behaviour. The shrimp were first distributed in aquaria and observed via an ad libitum observational method to construct an ethogram of social and feeding behavioural categories. The resulting ethogram consisted of retreat, cannibalism, getting to the feeding tray, occupying the feeding tray and getting feed. We then kept shrimp in aquaria at densities of 50, 75 and 100 animals m?2 and observed them via a behavioural sampling method using our ethogram as well as focal animal sampling of behaviours derived from the literature. These literature‐derived behaviours consisted of inactivity, feeding, crawling, exploration, burying, swimming and cleaning. We found that stocking density affects the behaviour of the shrimp. Optimal searching and feeding and a low frequency of crawling and swimming occurred at a density of 50 animals m?2, indicating a higher potential for growth and welfare at this density.  相似文献

Abstract. An intensive growth trial conducted In pens in an earthen pond indicated that growth of Penaeus vannamei (Boone) increased with feeding frequency and suggested that day feedings produce greater growth than night feedings. The differences in growth due to feeding frequency were significant, instantaneous growth rates (IGR) increasing from 1·62% to 1·66% to 1·71%/day as the number of feedings increased from one to two to four per 24 h. Comparison of the IGR of shrimp fed at night (1·64%/day) to that of shrimp fed during the day (1·68%/day) suggested ( P = 0·0633) that growth was greater for shrimp given day feedings than for shrimp given night feedings. Survival of shrimp was not significantly different due to feeding frequency or due to time of feeding and averaged 74·7 ± 6·1%. Results indicate that P. vannamei cultured under conditions similar to those tested should be fed a minimum of four times daily and suggest that feeding during the day is at least as good as and may be preferable to feeding at night.  相似文献

A nature‐simulating culture system was used to explore the influence of salinity, the diurnal cycle and daylength on ingestion rate (IR) and assimilation efficiency (AE) of Laternula marilina. The clams used in the experiments were grouped into three sizes: large, medium and small according to shell length and dry fresh weight. The clams in all size groups demonstrated a common response pattern in IR and AE under salinities ranging from 18 to 34 g L?1. The clams achieved the greatest IR within the salinity range 27–30 g L?1. There was a marked reduction in IR outside this range. Of the salinities tested 18 g L?1 was the harshest stress to the feeding of L. marilina. Between the salinities of 24 and 34 g L?1, the AE of the clam responded in an inverse way to that of IR, suggesting that L. marilina is able to compensate for the loss of IR by an increase in AE. Although the differences between clam size groups were not statistically different, those between different salinities were except those between 27 and 34 g L?1 (IR) and 23 and 34 g L?1 (AE). All sizes of clam showed a two‐phase diurnal feeding pattern, a high ingestion phase from 00:00 to 08:00 hours and a low ingestion phase from 12:00 to 20:00 hours. The response of feeding (as measured by IR) to daylength comprised high and constant feeding at daylengths from 0 to 16 h and declining and unstable feeding as daylength increased from 16 to 24 h. All sizes of clams demonstrated an inverse adaptation to AE compared with IR, indicating that the clam is able to achieve a stable feeding physiology by compensating for daylength‐induced variations in IR by changing AE.  相似文献

The effects of several feeding frequencies of two, three and four times per day on Asian sea bass Lates calcarifer growth performance have been tested. Fish were reared under ambient Red Sea water conditions; these fish were fed diets containing 48% crude protein for 45 days. The present study was carried out at the Faculty of Marine Science (Abhor branch). The results show that fish population fed twice daily had significantly better growth with a mean body weight and daily weight increment of 59.04 and 1.31 g, respectively (P<0.05), than the other population fed three or four times daily. No significant differences were observed between fish fed two and three times daily in length gain and daily length increment. Growth in weight and length was increased gradually and no mortality was observed during the experimental period. In all the feeding trials, the body weight increased with an increase in length (R2=0.87 and 0.90). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly affected by feeding frequencies, with a significantly better FCR value of 2.43 in fish fed twice daily (P<0.05) compared with the other two populations fed three and four times daily. These results led to the conclusion that feeding two times daily would result in better growth and utilization of feed for the Asian sea bass L. calcarifer juvenile.  相似文献

The apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC %) for protein in catfishes, Clarias batrachus (Linnaeus) (16–18 cm; 45–50 g), C. gariepinus (Burchell) (21–22 cm; 60–65 g) and Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch) (10–12 cm; 10–15 g) was estimated for nine feedstuffs of plant and animal origin. Fat digestibility was tested for C. batrachus and C. gariepinus, wherein the influence of feeding frequency on protein digestibility was also examined. The digestibility trials were conducted with triplicate groups of 25 fish each in 70‐L polyvinyl indoor flow‐through (1–1.5 L min?1) circular tanks (water volume=55 L). Fish were fed to satiation daily, at 08:00 and 18:00 hours, and faecal matter was collected through slow siphoning. For studying the effect of feeding frequency, fish were fed the experimental diets at 08:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 hours. The protein digestibility of the feedstuffs varied significantly within each test species. However, the protein digestibility values for most of the ingredients tested were comparable between the three catfish species. The most efficient utilization of protein in these fishes was noted for soybean meal followed by lab‐prepared fishmeal. The lowest protein digestibility was recorded for rice bran. Similarly, the utilization of fat from the feedstuffs was also significantly different within each of the two species, C. batrachus and C. gariepinus. Fat digestibility of feed ingredients was similar between the two species. With respect to the fat, soybean meal, lab‐prepared fishmeal, full‐fat soybean meal and dried fish were more efficiently utilized, while the lowest fat digestibility was obtained for rice bran. A marked decline in protein utilization was observed in the two species where the feeding frequency was increased from two to four times a day.  相似文献

Lack of information on the daily activity patterns of Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone 1931) might result in inadequate feed management strategies in shrimp farms. In order to provide information to improve feed management in shrimp farms, the daily activity of juvenile shrimp reared in glass aquaria was studied, using L. vannamei (7.57±1.01 g), equivalent to 33 shrimp m?2. Thirty‐two shrimp were observed, half in light and half in dark phase, over 280 h in 15 min h?1 windows. Feed was provided once a day, at 10% of tank biomass. Swimming, exploration of substrate, inactivity and cleaning were recorded through instantaneous focal sampling. During the dark phase, swimming was predominant and alternated with exploration. In the light phase, inactivity was predominant, and again alternated with exploration. Cleaning occurred evenly in both the light and the dark. Substrate exploration, which characterizes the search for food, occurred in both dark and light phases, with a most intense peak 7 h after light phase onset, indicating this as the optimal feed offer.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of replacing fish meal (FM) with blood meal (BM), poultry by‐product meal (PBM), meat and bone meal (MBM) and shrimp head meal (SHM), rapeseed meal (RM) and peanut meal (PM) on a digestible basis of crude protein and lysine and methionine in five practical diets for the Pacific white shrimp at the FM levels of 300, 250, 200, 150 and 100 g kg?1 under laboratory conditions. Each of the five experimental diets was hand‐fed to four replicate tanks of shrimp with an average weight of 0.33 ± 0.03 g to satiation at each meal. The shrimp were fed three times a day over a six‐week period. The per cent weight gain of initial body weight (WG%) was significantly lower in shrimp fed 100 g kg?1 FM diet, but the value for hepatosomatic index (HSI) and the level of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) tended to be higher in shrimp fed 100 g kg?1 FM diet than those in shrimp fed other diets. The lowest value for feeding rate (FR) occurred for shrimp fed the basal diet and was significantly lower than that in shrimp fed the FM diets at 100–150 g kg?1. Shrimp fed diets containing 200 g kg?1 or lower FM had significantly lower feed utilization than those fed the 250 g kg?1 FM diet and the basal diet. The protein efficiency ratio (PER) in the shrimp fed the basal diet was significantly higher than in the other FM diets. Decreasing the FM replacement level significantly reduced nutrient digestibility except in the cases of ash and gross energy, but it did not affect the survival, condition factor (CF), body composition, digestive enzyme activity or plasma transaminase activity. The results of the study indicate that feeding a diet formulated on a digestible basis and involving FM replacement with other protein sources at a greater replacement proportion will not produce a level of shrimp growth equal to that achieved by feeding the basal diet.  相似文献

The existence of a food-entrainable circadian oscillator (FEO) was examined in goldfish Carassius auratus. Single goldfish were exposed to light–dark (LD) 12:12 (lights on 06:00–18:00 h) and fed at 12:00 h (phase I). The photoperiod regime was shifted to constant light (LL) (phase II). The fish were then fed at 06:00 or at 18:00 h (phase III), and all fish were fasted (phase IV). In both groups, three out of eight fish exhibited food-anticipatory activity (FAA) in phases II and III, the free-running period (τ) of locomotor activity was approximately 24.0 h, and circadian rhythms of locomotor activity started to free-run from the previous FAA in phase IV, indicating the existence of an FEO. Next, single goldfish were exposed to LD 12:12 and were fed twice daily at 12:00 and 00:00 h (phase I). The photoperiod regime was shifted to LL (phase II), and the fish were fasted (phase III). In phase II, FAA was observed in three out of six fish for both feeding times. In phase III, a circadian rhythm of locomotor activity was observed in five fish, and circadian rhythms started to free-run from the previous feeding time (either 12:00 or 00:00 h) in three fish. These results suggest that individual goldfish can remember two daily feeding times.  相似文献

This work evaluated the effects of food frequencies and self-feeding on the behavior, performance, and blood biochemistry of Colossoma macropomum. Juveniles weighing 3.63?±?0.05 g were distributed in 27 aquariums (40 L), with six fish per aquarium, to evaluate nine treatments in three replications in a 12L:12D photoperiod. The treatments were 24-h self-feeding (SF); daytime self-feeding at will (SFD); nighttime self-feeding at will (SFN); and feeding at fixed frequencies of two (2D), four (4D), and six times (6D) daytime and twice (2 N), four (4 N), and six times (6 N) nightly. The treatments were offered in automatic feeders, with fixed frequencies programmed. Extruded commercial feed, with 46% protein, was used. The experimental period was 40 days. In the SF treatment, the animals exhibited 95.7% nocturnal and 4.3% diurnal feeding activity (p?<?0.05). In the treatment SFD and SFN, the animals showed feeding activity throughout the day and night. Final weight, weight gain, and total feed intake were higher for animals at fixed daytime and nighttime frequencies (p?<?0.05). Feed conversion was better for animals in SF, SFD, 4D, SFN, and 4 N (0.89, 0.76, 0.91, 0.85, and 0.88, respectively) (p?<?0.05). Cholesterol and high-density lipoproteins were lower for fish in SF, SFN, 2 N, 4 N, and 6 N (p?<?0.05). SF treatment animals had lower triglyceride content, 154.20 mg dL?1 (p?<?0.05). Colossoma macropomum has nocturnal food preferences, however, with remarkable plasticity. Juveniles of this species fed four times during the day or night show good performance. Dietary patterns influenced the blood metabolic indicators of this species and the periods studied.

The use of meat and bone meal (MBM) was evaluated as a replacement for fish meal in a practical diet formulated to contain 41% protein and 8% lipid. Anchovy meal was replaced by 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% and 80% of MBM (diets 1–7) respectively. Healthy post larvae of Litopenaeus vannamei were reared in an indoor, semi‐closed recirculating system. Each dietary treatment was fed to triplicate groups of 40 shrimp per tank (260 L) arranged in a completely randomized design. The shrimp were hand‐fed to near‐satiation three times daily between 07:00 and 18:00 hours for 56 days. There were no significant differences (P>0.05) in growth performance among shrimp fed diets 1–6. However, shrimp fed diet 7 had significantly lower (P<0.05) growth than those fed diet 2 or diet 4. Survival ranged from 95% to 100% and did not significantly (P>0.05) differ. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) and carcass composition of the shrimp were not significantly (P>0.05) affected by dietary treatments. No significant differences (P>0.05) in protein efficiency ratio (PER) were found among shrimp fed diets 1‐6. However, shrimp fed diet 7 had significantly lower (P<0.05) PER than those fed diet 1 or diet 4. Results showed that up to 60% of fish meal protein can be replaced by MBM with no adverse effects on growth, survival, FCR, PER and body composition of L. vannamei.  相似文献

The growth and nutrient utilization of blackspot seabream was studied under self-feeding or hand feeding for 90 days. Groups of 31 fish with an initial body weight of 24 g were fed either by hand two times a day (09:00, and 18:00 h) to apparent satiety or by self-feeders. The 90 days of the feeding trial included two periods: an adaptation period (30 days) required to achieve a constant number of feed demands per day and a subsequent experimental period (60 days). Final body weight and daily growth index were unaffected by the feeding regimes. However, the marked reduction in voluntary feed intake associated with similar nutrient gain on the self-fed group resulted in improved nutrient efficiency and in subsequent increased protein, lipid and energy retentions compared to fish hand-fed at set hours. The self-fed group displayed depressed malic (<62%) and fatty acid synthetase (<35%) activities as well as reduced triacylglycerol plasma levels, which correlated positively with feed intake and, at some extent, with fish lipid content. These results indicate the ability of blackspot seabream to adjust their lipid metabolism according to fish feeding rhythm. No effect of feeding method was however observed on glycolytic hepatic activities or on glucose, cholesterol and insulin plasma levels. Self-feeders led to similar growth (DGI, 1.4–1.5) but better efficiency (FCR, 1.0 vs. 1.5), and hence, can be regarded as a helpful tool to optimize feed distribution according to this species natural rhythm. The maximal number of demands occurring between 20:00 and 21:00 h (dusk/sunset), together with the fact that 61% of the feed demands took place during the night, reveals a preferential crepuscular/nocturnal feeding pattern of this species.  相似文献

The present work was designed to evaluate the effects of various feeding regimens on rabbitfish growth and condition. Twelve juvenile rabbitfish Siganus rivulatus (7.3 ± 0.1 g) were stocked into each of 15 tanks. Tanks were randomly assigned one of five treatments with three replicate tanks per treatment. Treatments were G‐I: fish fed once daily at 08.00; G‐II: fish fed once daily at 17.00; G‐III: fish fed twice daily at 08.00, 17.00; G‐IV: fish fed three times daily, at 08.00, 13.00, 17.00; G‐V: fish fed three times daily at 08.00, 13.00, 17.00 for six consecutive days, followed by 1 day of fasting. Fish were offered a commercial diet (Golden Extruded, 450 g kg?1 protein, 200 g kg?1 lipids) to apparent satiation. At the conclusion of the study, weight gain of rabbitfish fed three times daily (273.1%) was significantly greater than weight gain of fish in all other treatments. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) of fish fed once per day (1.5) was significantly greater than FCR in all other treatments. Proportion of lipids in fish fed three times per day was significantly greater than in fish from other treatments. Ultrastructure of muscle of fish offered feed three times daily had a better organized appearance and better defined striation than muscle of fish in other treatments. Accordingly, feeding rabbitfish three times daily is better than feeding them once or twice daily and also improves muscle ultrastructure and quality.  相似文献
