Summary

With a 99mTc‐labelled aerosol an inhalation (ventilation) image of the lungs was obtained. A lung perfusion image was obtained with 99mTc‐labelled macro‐aggregates. The data from the gamma camera were stored in a computer and the inhalation‐perfusion (I/P) ratio was calculated for the total lung as well as for one half another selected region, and a local (pixel) area. In the anaesthetised dog in sternal recumbency, the I/P ratio decreased from the cranial to the caudal lung regions. Hence in the dog gravity is not the only determinant of the I/P ratio distribution, as it is assumed to be in man. Position and anaesthesia appeared to influence the distribution of I/P ratios within the lung.  相似文献

The scintigraphic characteristics of lymph nodes draining the ventral body wall were analyzed in 12 dogs as to their pattern of appearance and image contrast. Each dog was scanned using 99mTc-antimony sulfide colloid and 99mTc-dextran, and the imaging characteristics of these agents were compared. A large degree of variability exists in the number and pattern of lymph node appearance with either agent. No significant difference in average numbers of lymph nodes per dog was shown between agents. However, 99mTc-antimony sulfide colloid provided a significantly (p<.05) better target-to-background ratio, which determines the contrast with which lymph nodes stand out from background activity. From these findings, it is suggested that too great a variability in lymph node appearance exists using this procedure to allow a high degree of confidence in the diagnosis of metastasis to lymph nodes of the ventral body wall. However, for other purposes, 99mTc-antimony sulfide colloid is the lymphoscintigraphic agent of choice.  相似文献

This study describes the development of a radioaerosol technique for horses using 99mtechnetium-DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentacetate). In 24 normal, adult horses, very satisfactory ventilation images were obtained with the technique. Four-minute administrations of the aerosol resulted in a mean uptake of radioactivity in the lung fields of 3.02 mCi, with mean maximum counts (+/- sd) of 159,800 +/- 75,000 per camera field. The mean clearance half-time for the 99mtechnetium-DTPA from the lung fields was 55.6 +/- 14.2 mins which is very similar to figures obtained for normal human and dog lungs. The results of this study suggest that ventilation imaging with 99mtechnetium-DTPA is a clinically practical method of obtaining regional information on ventilation function in the horse.  相似文献

Five healthy Friesian calves and five double-muscled Belgian White and Blue calves were studied, using a 99m Technetium (99mTc) aerosol inhalation combined with a 99mTc macroaggregate injection and collimated scintillation counters. The inhalation-to-perfusion ratio (I/P) was calculated for both left and right sides of the thorax at four sites situated at three different levels in the auscultatory area on the same vertical axis and at a more anterior site just behind the scapulohumeral joint.I/P was higher in the left than in the right hemithorax. In both breeds, a vertical and a horizontal gradient were observed. I/P was higher in the lower and in the more cranial zones of the lungs. However the vertical gradient was more pronounced in Friesian calves while the horizontal one was greater in Belgian White and Blue animals. It was concluded that the factors affecting the topographical distribution of pulmonary ventilation and perfusion seem to be different in calves as compared to other species.  相似文献

Scintigraphy, with 99mTechnetium methylenediphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) and 99mTc-labelled leucocytes, was compared to radiography in the diagnosis of dental disease in the horse in a prospective case-controlled study, comprising 30 horses with clinical signs of dental disease and 30 control horses. In each case, right and left lateral, ventral and dorsal soft tissue and bone phase scintigraphic images were obtained after i.v. injection of 1 GBq/100 kg bwt 99mTc-MDP, using a gamma camera. The same views were acquired in 10 horses with clinical signs of dental disease and 12 control horses after injection of 99mTc-labelled leucocytes. Standard radiographic projections of the paranasal sinuses and of the apices of the maxillary and mandibular teeth were obtained. The scintigraphs and radiographs were assessed subjectively by 2 board-certified surgeons and one board-certified radiologist, with extensive experience of equine radiology, from who the clinical history was withheld. Sensitivity, specificity and kappa, as a measure of agreement, were calculated for the different methods. Bone phase images were also scored subjectively on a scale from 0 to 3 on the basis of isotope uptake over the teeth. Regions of interest were defined over the teeth, and normal teeth compared to diseased counterparts. Total scintigraphic counts were related to the age of the animal and to the disease process. Differences in density ratios between left and right teeth were evaluated using the Mann-Whitney Test. Dental disease was confirmed in 22 horses at surgery or postmortem examination. Horses with dental disease showed a significant increase in scintigraphic activity over the affected tooth compared to the contralateral tooth, with a typical pattern for different diseases. The sensitivity of scintigraphy with 99mTc-MDP proved to be excellent (95.5%), whereas the specificity was moderate (86.4%). In contrast, radiography had excellent specificity (95.0%) and a low sensitivity (51.5%). The greatest sensitivity and specificity were achieved by evaluating radiographs and scintigrams together. The objective scintigraphic density ratios were found to be significantly different between diseased and control horses. The results of this study suggest that, if a density ratio of 1.5 or greater between a suspected diseased tooth and its contralateral number is regarded as abnormal, only 1% false positive diagnoses and 20% false negative diagnoses will occur. In contrast, scintigraphy with 99mTc-labelled leucocytes was not very successful, due to the lack of anatomical detail provided by this technique, which made identification of the diseased tooth impossible. Accurate radiographic interpretation of dental disease presents difficulties, both in terms of missed diagnoses and mistaken diagnoses. Scintigraphy complements radiographic examination of dental structures by providing information important for accurate diagnosis and is, therefore, conceived to be essential for selection of the appropriate treatment for dental disease.  相似文献

The in vitro and in vivo binding of a monoclonal antibody (MAB) that recognizes a tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen was studied in dogs. Monoclonal antibody 155H.7 was raised in response to innoculation of mice with beta-galactose(1-3)beta N-acetylgalactosamine conjugated to human serum albumin. Avidin-biotin-complex immunohistochemical staining of cryostat sections of normal and neoplastic canine tissue specimens revealed heterogenous binding of MAB 155H.7 to the cells of many canine mammary and lung carcinomas and homogenous staining of many sarcomas, including osteogenic sarcoma. In addition, there was variable staining of a variety of normal tissues including some ductual epithelium, peripheral nerve fibers, and some endothelial cells and fibroblasts. Immunoscintigraphy with 131I-labeled MAB 155H.7 was used to study the in vivo distribution of the antibody. The 131I-labeled MAB 155H.7 was administered to 1 clinically normal dog, 7 dogs with osteogenic sarcoma, 1 dog with undifferentiated sarcoma, and 2 dogs with mammary tumor. Scintigraphy revealed concentration of radioactivity in 8 of 10 tumor sites within 24 hours after MAB administration. The ratio of 131I in tumor sites to 131I in the surrounding normal tissues, compared with the similar ratio of 99mTc-labeled erythrocytes ranged from 1.1 to 4.3, in tumor vs normal tissue with a mean value of 2, confirming tumor localization of the radiolabeled MAB in excess of that associated with enhanced tumor vascularization.  相似文献

The use of lung scintigraphy in calves necessitates the validation of a ventilation (V) imaging agent compatible with clinical applications. This study aimed at defining the value of an inhaled radioactive aerosol (99mTc-DTPA) and a 'pseudogas' (Technegas) in the assessment of regional V in healthy conscious calves by comparing 99mTc-DTPA and Technegas deposition (D) images to V(V) images obtained from the steady-state inhalation of the short half-life krypton 81 (81mKr) gas. Images were compared by analysis of radioactivity distribution in computer-generated regions of interest within the right lung and D to V ratio images were generated in order to highlight areas of mismatching between 99mTc-DTPA or Technegas and 81mKr distributions. Results of this analysis showed that the 99mTc-DTPA aerosol droplets were unable to reach the lung parenchyma because of significant particle impaction in the major conducting airways. Better definition of the ventilated lung was obtained when using Technegas because of minimal deposition in conducting airways. Furthermore, the Technegas and 81mKr distribution patterns were highly equivalent.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to design protocol for use of radioaerosol of technetium-99m-labeled diethylenetriaminepentacetic acid (99mTc-DTPA) for ventilation imaging as clinical tool in the dog and to evaluate imaging characteristics in both normal dogs and dogs with simulated pulmonary embolism. Clearance of the 99mTc-DTPA radioaerosol from the lung was also evaluated. Six normal dogs were used in two phases: (1) as their own controls and (2) during pulmonary artery occlusion using Swan-Ganz catheter. Radioaerosol ventilation images were obtained and rate of clearance from normal and occluded lungs determined. Perfusion studies using technetium-99m-macroaggregated albumin (99mTc-MAA) immediately followed. Clearance half-times (T1/2) were found to be significantly increased (p < 0.05) in acutely occluded lungs; however, the small magnitude of this change was visually difficult to detect on the ventilation images. Good quality initial ventilation and perfusion images were obtained and provided ready evaluation of ventilation (V), perfusion (Q), and induced V/Q mismatches. A clinical case of pulmonary thromboembolic disease was also evaluated with diagnostic result, indicating that this method of V/Q scintigraphy can provide useful information in those clinical cases in which pulmonary thromboembolism is suspected.  相似文献

A new lung-targeting and controlled releasing preparation, enrofloxacin microsphere, was formulated and its physical properties, stability, pharmacokinetics and lung-targeting characteristics were tested in this study. The enrofloxacin microsphere prepared was demonstrated round and regular, which was easy to be dispersed and stable in both light stability test and heat stability test. Following intravenous administration of a single dose in dog, the drug concentration-time data in the lung were fitted most suitably with three-compartment open model. Compared with enrofloxacin injection (Baytril, half-life of distribution phase in the lung was shortened from 0.72 to 0.16 h, half-life of elimination phase in the lung was prolonged from 5.15 to 33.86 h and clearance of drug concentration in the lung was decreased from 0.603 to 0.267 L/h/kg. Lung-targeting parameters, including the relative intake rate (Re), targeting efficacy (Te) and the ratio of peak concentration (Ce), were calculated according to the pharmacokinetic parameters. The results showed that Re (2.48) and Ce (4.27) of the lung was much greater than that of other tissues and the ratio of Te(microsphere) to Te(Baytril) increased by a factor of 1.77 (compared with liver) to 3.51 (compared with spleen). Therefore, the enrofloxacin microsphere prepared in this study had controlled releasing and lung-targeting effects in dog.  相似文献

To evaluate the use of technetium pertechnetate (99mTcO4) as a means of estimating gastric mucosal integrity, nuclear images of the empty stomach were obtained from 6 dogs at 20, 40, 60, 120, 180, and 240 minutes after IV administration of the radiopharmaceutical. Blood and gastric secretion samples were collected during the same time intervals. The left lateral-view image of the stomach was used to calculate the relative fraction of the dose in the stomach and the count density ratio. Between 20 and 40 minutes and 40 and 60 minutes, significant differences (P less than 0.001) were apparent in the amount of 99mTcO4 in the stomach. Blood concentration of 99mTcO4 decreased significantly (P less than 0.001), whereas gastric secretion concentration increased significantly (P less than 0.001) over time. Qualitative assessment of the gastric nuclear scans and the statistical analytic results indicated that the optimal time for imaging the canine stomach was between 40 and 60 minutes after radiopharmaceutical administration. In a second study, the same dogs were pretreated with the H2-receptor antagonist cimetidine and the cholinergic antagonist glycopyrrolate to block gastric secretions. Over time, changes in the relative dose fraction in the stomach and the density ratio were the same as values obtained during the experiment performed without use of cimetidine and glycopyrrolate. Results of the study indicate that nuclear imaging with 99mTcO4 outlines normal canine gastric mucosa and that pretreatment with cimetidine and glycopyrrolate has no effect on the quality of the gastric image.  相似文献

The correlation between 24-hour urine protein excretion and the protein-to-creatinine ratio (U-P/C) from random, voided urine specimens was assessed in 16 healthy Beagles (9 to 11 months old) and in 14 dogs with suspected renal proteinuria. Initially, a voided urine specimen was obtained from each dog, and the U-P/C was determined. An attempt was not made to standardize the time of collection of the voided urine. Subsequently, each dog was placed in a metabolism cage, and 24-hour urine specimens were collected for quantitative protein analysis. The Coomassie blue technique was used to measure urine protein. The correlation between the U-P/C and the 24-hour urine protein excretion (mg/kg/24 hr), evaluated by linear-regression analysis, was found to be significant (r = 0.975, P less than 0.01). These results substantiate previous findings and indicate that random, voided urine specimens may be used to compute the ratio and to accurately reflect 24-hour urinary protein loss in the dog.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the accuracy of an ultrafine 99m-technetium-labeled carbon dry aerosol for use in assessment of regional ventilation in calves with pulmonary dysfunction. ANIMALS: 7 Belgian White and Blue calves. PROCEDURE: The ultrafine aerosol was assessed by comparing deposition (D) images with ventilation (V) images obtained by use of 81 m-krypton (81mKr) gas via D-to-V ratio (D:V) image analysis in calves during spontaneous breathing (SB) and during experimentally induced pulmonary dysfunction (ePD). RESULTS: Mismatching index (LrTot) calculated on the D:V images revealed a good match (LrTot, 0.96 +/- 0.01) between D and V distribution patterns in calves during SB. Calculation of the ultrafine aerosol penetration index relative to 81mKr (PIRel) revealed preferential distribution of the ultrafine aerosol in lung parenchyma (PIRel, 1.13 +/- 0.11). In ePD, heterogeneity in the D:V distribution was observed (LrTot, 0.78 +/- 0.10) as a result of ultrafine aerosol particles impaction in airways as indicated by PIRel (0.66 +/- 0.16) and a proportion of pixels more radioactive in D images, compared with V images, that was located in the central part of the lung (475 +/- 77% in ePD vs 32.8 +/- 5.7% in SB). However, this central deposition did not prevent visual examination of the entire ventilated lung. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The ultrafine aerosol appears suitable for use in examination of ventilated parts of lungs of cattle, even those with impaired pulmonary function. However, airway impaction of ultrafine aerosol particles impedes the quantification of regional ventilation in cattle with abnormal lung function.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the iodine (I) requirement in adult cats. Forty‐two healthy euthyroid cats (1.6–13.6 years old) were utilized in a randomized complete block design. Cats were fed a dry basal diet (0.23 mg/kg I) for a minimum of 1 month (pre‐test) then switched to a different basal diet supplemented with seven levels of KI for 1 year (experimental period). Analysed I concentrations were 0.17, 0.23, 0.47, 1.1, 3.1, 6.9 and 8.8 mg I/kg diet [dry matter (DM) basis] and used to construct a response curve. Response variables included I concentrations in serum, urine and faeces, urinary I:creatinine ratio, I balance, technetium99m pertechnetate (Tc99m) thyroid:salivary ratio, complete blood count and serum chemistries as well as serum thyroid hormone profiles. No significant changes in food intake, weight gain or clinical signs were noted. Serum I, daily urinary I, daily faecal I and urinary I:creatinine ratio were linear functions of iodine intake. An estimate of the I requirement (i.e. breakpoint) was determined from regression of Tc99m thyroid:salivary ratio (scintigraphy) on I intake at 12 months [0.46 mg I/kg diet (DM basis) as well as 9 months I balance (0.44 mg I/kg diet (DM)]. The I requirement estimate determined in our study at 12 months for adult cats (0.46 mg I/kg) was higher than current Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) recommendations (e.g. 0.35 mg I/kg), but was lower than the 2006 National Research Council (NRC) I recommended allowance (e.g. 1.4 mg I/kg).  相似文献

Bronchiectasis is diagnosed in humans using multiple computed tomography (CT) criteria, the most important being dilatation of the bronchi. The most widely used criterion for detection of bronchial dilatation is a bronchial lumen to pulmonary artery diameter (bronchoarterial [BA]) ratio >1.0. No studies have been performed to determine the BA ratio in normal dogs. Thoracic CT images of 24 dogs without clinical pulmonary disease were reviewed. The BA ratio of the lobar bronchi of the left cranial (cranial and caudal parts), right cranial, right middle, left caudal, and right caudal lung lobes was measured. The mean of the mean BA ratio for all dogs was 1.45±0.21 (99% confidence interval [CI]=1.34–1.56). The mean of the mean BA ratio as determined by lung lobe was 1.45±0.04 (99% CI=1.41–1.49). The range of individual BA ratios was 0.8–2.0. There was no significant difference in mean BA ratios as a function of lung lobe ( P =0.60). The BA ratio in these clinically normal dogs was consistent and may be a useful tool in evaluating for bronchiectasis on CT images. BA ratios >2.0 were not identified in this population, suggesting a threshold to differentiate normal from abnormal bronchi.  相似文献

A large outbreak of canine salmonellosis in military watch dogs due to Salmonella Montevideo and/or Salmonella Give was only recognized through a monitoring program, implemented by the military forces. In 51 out of 80 exposed dogs (63.8%) from four kennels Salmonella was isolated from fecal samples. The prevalence per sampling day ranged from 5.6 to 77.8%. Clinical disease with mild diarrhea but without fever appeared only in nine dogs (11.3% of study population, 16.9% of cases) from one kennel (***P < 0.001). Risk analysis identified "dog food A" (odds ratio 3.33 [1.12 < OR < 10.06] *P < 0.05) and "dog food C" (odds ratio 3.40 [1.07 < OR < 11.22] *P < 0.05), two commercial dehydrated dog feeds, as suspected infectious sources. Feeding "dog food C" alone or together with "dog food A" was significantly associated with clinical disease (***P < 0.001). S. Montevideo and S. Give with similar plasmid profiles and PFGE-restriction patterns were isolated from the suspected dog feeds and fecal samples. This outbreak demonstrates not only that Salmonella infections in dogs occur without clinical symptoms but also that large outbreaks occur after feeding dehydrated dog feeds. Especially in households with known risk group patients this finding demonstrates a particular risk for their owners, as they often live in close contact with their animals.  相似文献

PULMONARY MINERALIZATION IN FOUR DOGS WITH CUSHING'S SYNDROME   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The clinical and imaging features of four dogs with Cushing's syndrome and pulmonary mineralization are reviewed. Three dogs presented with a primary complaint of respiratory distress/dyspnea. Three dogs had pituitary dependent Cushing's syndrome, while the remaining one dog had iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome. Each dog had clinical features typical for Cushing's syndrome. Two of the dogs were euthanized due to progressive hypoxemia. In each dog, the serum calcium, phosphorous, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine were normal.
A generalized increase in unstructured interstitial pulmonary opacity with diffuse mineralization was noted on thoracic radiographs of all dogs. In one dog, an ill-defined nodular interstitial pattern of mineralization was present. Delayed bone phase scintigraphy using 99mTechnetium methylene diphosphonate documented generalized pulmonary uptake in two dogs. 99mTechnetium labeled microaggregated albumin lung perfusion scans were normal in these two dogs. 99mTc-MDP scintigraphy can provide useful information in diagnosing pulmonary mineralization in Cushingoid dogs.  相似文献

In a retrospective study, technetium 99m sulfur colloid scintigraphy was used to evaluate reticuloendothelial system function in 61 dogs with single congenital and 40 dogs with multiple acquired portasystemic shunts. Whole body reticuloendothelial function was measured by calculating the plasma clearance rate constant from a dynamic study of liver uptake of 99mTc sulfur colloid. Relative liver, spleen, and lung uptake, and a ratio of hepatic:extrahepatic uptake were measured on static equilibrium images. Results were compared with those of a group of 26 normal dogs. Compared with values for the group of normal dogs, the plasma clearance rate constant, relative liver uptake, and hepaticiextrahepatic uptake ratio were significantly decreased, and relative spleen and lung uptake were significantly increased in dogs with portasystemic shunts ( P <.0001). The only significant difference between dogs with single congenital versus multiple acquired shunts was that the relative splenic uptake was higher in the former group ( P <.0002). Based on these results, we concluded that dogs with portasystemic shunts have significantly impaired reticuloendothelial function. The primary cause of this dysfunction is likely a reduction in effective liver blood flow. Increases in spleen and lung reticuloendothelial activity did occur, but only partially compensated for the reduction of liver reticuloendothelial activity. Possible mechanisms for the increased spleen and lung uptake are discussed.  相似文献

A technique for performing thyroid scintigraphy in the cat using technetium 99m pertechnetate is presented. Two groups of cats were studied: group I—five young adult cats, and group II—five cats, nine to 11 years of age. The resultant scintigrams were uniform in appearance with no significant differences between groups I and II. Computer analysis was performed to determine radioactivity ratios, comparing thyroid with salivary gland and background radioactivity. A consistent thyroid/salivary ratio (T/S) of approximately 1 was obtained for group I and group II. Thyroid/background ratio (T/B) was variable.  相似文献

A method was developed for determining the ratio of cardiopulmonary blood volume to stroke volume, in horses. The radioisotope 99 Tc (technetium 99m pertechnetate) was injected into the jugular vein as a bolus, which was then detected in the right and left ventricles consecutively by a scanning device consisting of a Na I crystal, a collimator, an amplifier and a discriminator. The radiocardiogram (RCG) and the ECG were recorded simultaneously by a two-channel writing device. The ratio of cardiopulmonary blood volume to stroke volume (cardiopulmonary flow index = CPFI) was then determined from the RCG and ECG tracings. Five categories of horses were examined, viz. Thoroughbreds in training, showjumpers in training, horses not in training, horses with cardiovascular disease and horses with chronic lung disease. The mean CPFI of the above categories were respectively 7.0 +/- 0.39, 7.3 +/- 0.45, 6.7 +/- 0.61, 9.8 +/- 1.30 and 6.2 +/- 0.47. The mean CPFI of the subjects with heart disease was significantly greater than the mean values of the other four categories (P less than 0.001). It was concluded that the CPFI was a reproducible physiological parameter in horses and that the value was significantly increased in our series of subjects with heart disease.  相似文献

Mesenchymal stem cells have been proposed to treat liver disease in the dog. The objective of this study was to compare portal, systemic intravenous and splenic injections for administration of mesenchymal stem cells to target the liver in healthy beagle dogs. Four healthy beagle dogs were included in the study. Each dog received mesenchymal stem cells via all three delivery methods in randomized order, 1 week apart. Ten million fat‐derived allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells labeled with Technetium‐99m (99mTc)‐hexamethyl‐propylene amine oxime(HMPAO) were used for each injection. Right lateral, left lateral, ventral, and dorsal scintigraphic images were obtained with a gamma camera equipped with a low‐energy all‐purpose collimator immediately after injection and 1, 6, and 24 h later. Mesenchymal stem cells distribution was assessed subjectively using all four views. Pulmonary, hepatic, and splenic uptake was quantified from the right lateral view, at each time point. Portal injection resulted in diffuse homogeneous high uptake through the liver, whereas the systemic intravenous injection led to mesenchymal stem cell trapping in the lungs. After splenic injection, mild splenic retention and high homogeneous diffuse hepatic uptake were observed. Systemic injection of mesenchymal stem cells may not be a desirable technique for liver therapy due to pulmonary trapping. Splenic injection represents a good alternative to portal injection. Scintigraphic tracking with 99mTc‐HMPAO is a valuable technique for assessing mesenchymal stem cells distribution and quantification shortly after administration. Data obtained at 24 h should be interpreted cautiously due to suboptimal labeling persistence.  相似文献
