The effects of different treatments for oestrus synchronisation on the incidence of oestrus and fertility levels in dairy cows were studied in 2 experiments. In Experiment 1, 200 lactating cows were allotted to 5 groups and the treatments imposed were either; 1: Untreated controls, 2: An injection of 0.5 mg of cloprostenol followed 13 days later by a progesterone releasing intravaginal device (PRID) inserted for 12 days, 3: A PRID, with a capsule containing 10 mg of oestradiol benzoate (ODB) attached, inserted for 12 days, 4: A PRID inserted for 12 days with 0.5 mg of cloprostenol administered 24 h before PRID removal or, 5: As for 4 but 14 days after fixed-time insemination a second PRID was inserted for 12 days. Treated cows were inseminated 56 h after PRID removal and at an observed oestrus during the subsequent 30 days. The control group was inseminated at an observed oestrus during this 30-day period. For treatments 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively, the percentage of cows showing oestrus by 60 h after PRID removal was 70, 40, 67 and 43 and conception rates to the fixed time insemination were 34, 33, 49 and 29%. Calving rates of cows inseminated at an observed oestrus during a 30-day period were 70, 75, 70, 83 and 82% for treatments 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively. In Experiment 2, 60 lactating cows were divided into 2 groups and the treatments imposed were either 1: An injection of 0.5 mg of cloprostenol followed 13 days later by a PRID inserted for 12 days or 2: As for 1 but 14 days after fixed-time insemination a second PRID was inserted for 12 days. Treated cows were inseminated 56 h after PRID removal and at an observed oestrus over a period from the first insemination to 6 days after removal of the second PRID. For treatments 1 and 2, respectively, 73 and 71% of cows showed oestrus by 60 h after removal of the first PRID and 40% and 46% conceived to the fixed time insemination. The conception rates to inseminations over the treatment period were 73 and 70% for treatments 1 and 2, respectively. None of the treatments resulted in conception rates which were lower than those of control cows provided that treated cows were reinseminated at observed oestrus. Treatment 4 provided the most practicable technique for oestrus synchronisation.  相似文献

Fifty-six cows received a norgestomet implant and an injection of norgestomet and estradiol valerate; half (n = 28) received 500 IU equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG) at implant removal, 9 d later. A third group (n = 25) received 2 doses of cloprostenol (500 micrograms) 11 d apart. Estrous rate was higher (P < 0.05) for cows given norgestomet and estradiol plus 500 IU eCG (75.0%) than for those receiving cloprostenol (44.0%); for those receiving norgestomet and estradiol alone, it was intermediate (67.8%). Pregnancy rates to artificial insemination (after estrus or timed) were higher (P < 0.05) for cows given norgestomet and estradiol than for those given cloprostenol (23 of 28, 82.1% vs 13 of 25, 52.0%), and intermediate (67.8%) for those given norgestomet and estradiol plus eCG. In a second experiment, for heifers treated with norgestomet and estradiol plus eCG (n = 15) or with 2 doses of cloprostenol (n = 16), estrous rates were 66.7% vs 56.2% (P > 0.5), ovulation rates were 100.0% vs 81.2% (P = 0.08), intervals from implant removal or cloprostenol treatment to estrus were 48.0 +/- 4.4 hours vs 61.3 +/- 7.0 hours (P = 0.12) and to ovulation were 70.4 +/- 4.4 hours vs 93.2 +/- 7.5 hours (P < 0.01), respectively; pregnancy rates were 41.7 and 35.7%, respectively (P > 0.5). Norgestomet and estradiol were as good as (heifers) or superior to (cows) a 2-dose cloprostenol regimen. In cows given norgestomet and estradiol, injecting eCG at implant removal did not significantly improve estrous or pregnancy rates.  相似文献

Fifty-seven cycling buffalo cows of the river type were treated with two doses of 0.5 mg cloprostenol intramuscularly given 11 days apart. Each animal was inseminated twice at 72 and 96 hours after the second injection of cloprostenol. The first service conception rate diagnosed by rectal palpation at 90 days was 38.6 per cent. At the time of insemination the cervix was easily penetrable on both days in only 39 (68.4 per cent) of the animals. They were inseminated at or beyond the internal cervical os, while the others were inseminated in the cervical canal. There was a marked difference in conception rate between those receiving deep inseminations (48.7 per cent) and the others (16.7 per cent). In relation to the interval from calving to insemination the conception rates for those which had calved 60 to 90, 90 to 120 and 120 to 150 days earlier were 16.6, 36.4 and 55.5 per cent respectively. The use of cloprostenol treatment and fixed-time insemination is a useful method of overcoming the problem of oestrus detection in buffaloes. Acceptable levels of fertility can be obtained in those animals which have a sufficiently relaxed cervix to permit semen deposition at the internal os, provided the interval from calving to insemination is more than 90 days.  相似文献

Lactating crossbred Holstein-Friesian dairy cows (n = 331) were started on an Ovsynch regimen 68 +/- 8.2 days after calving; 200 micrograms GnRH intramuscularly (i.m.) on Days 0 and 9, and 35 mg prostaglandin F2 alpha i.m. on Day 7. Thirty-eight and 31 cows (11.5 and 9.4%, respectively) were in oestrus on Days 0 to 6 and 7 to 8, respectively, and inseminated, and the remainder were fixed-time inseminated (on Day 10). For these three groups, pregnancy rates (60-65 days after breeding) were 31.6, 38.7 and 34.0%, respectively (P = 0.82) and calving rates were 100, 100 and 89.9% (P = 0.23). In a preliminary trial, twelve lactating cows (45 to 60 days postpartum) with inactive ovaries were given 1500 IU eCG i.m.; 10 were in oestrus within 10 days after treatment (and inseminated) and eight of these were pregnant (30 days after breeding). The Ovsynch program resulted in acceptable reproductive performance in cyclic cows and eCG treatment has considerable promise for inducing oestrus in anoestrous cows.  相似文献

Farm trials were carried out to determine if cows and heifers could be inseminated on a fixed time basis following a 12-day treatment with progesterone coils and an injection of 5 mg oestradiol benzoate and 200 mg progesterone at the start of treatment. The retention rate of the coils was significantly higher (P less than 0.05) when a 5.5 cm diameter was used compared with a diameter of 7.0 cm. Calving rate was similar in treated cows bred at a detected oestrus, at 56 + 74 hours after treatment or at 56 hours after treatment and injection of 100 microgram gonadotrophin releasing hormone 20 hours previously and in control cows bred at oestrus. Fertility to the first repeat oestrus was also similar in treated and control cows. Significantly (P less than 0.05) more synchronised cows calved following fixed time AI compared with the calving rate in control cows inseminated for a 24-day experimental period. In beef suckler cows, calved at least 50 days, and dairy heifers weighing over 280 kg, calving rate was similar in treated animals bred at 56 and 74 hours after treatment compared to calving rate in control animals bred at oestrus.  相似文献

In seasonally calving dairy herds in the Macalister Irrigation Area of Gippsland, Victoria, cows that had not been observed in oestrus by the start of the mating season and which had inactive ovaries based on rectal palpation and progesterone assay were treated with a hormonal treatment (n = 49). Mature cows had calved at least 40 days previously and 2-year-olds had been calved at least 60 days. The treatment consisted of a norgestomet implant and a norgestomet and oestradiol injection on day 1; prostaglandin analogue Prosolvin) on day 8; withdrawal of implant on day 10 and an injection of PMSG; and fixed time artificial insemination 54 to 56 h after implant withdrawal. This treatment was called the Syncro-mate regimen. Control cows (n = 46) were injected with water on days 1, 8 and 10 and artificially inseminated or served by a bull when seen on heat. Forty seven percent of the treated cows became pregnant within 14 days from the start of treatment compared with 20% of control cows (P less than 0.01). There was an effect of age group on the response to treatment. A greater proportion of 2-year-old cows than mature cows became pregnant within 14 days of treatment (79% of 19 v. 27% of 20; Chi square interaction, treatment by age, 6.4, P less than 0.05). In the younger cows there was also a gain of 22 days in the treatment to conception interval over the control cows (P less than 0.001). It was concluded that the Syncro-mate regimen can be an effective treatment for post partum anoestrus in dairy cows under certain conditions.  相似文献

In 2 experiments involving 151 non-lactating and 107 lactating Brahman or Brahman-cross cows, the effects of progesterone treatments (PRID) of 2 durations (7 v 14 days) and injections of pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG) at 3 doses (O v 375 v 750 IU) were examined. All cows were inseminated with frozen/thawed semen 54 to 58 and 70 to 74 hours after PRID removal. Calving rates of non-lactating cows (38%) were unaffected by breed or treatment but were higher in previously cyclic than acyclic cows (44% v 19%, P less than 0.025) and in cows which exhibited oestrus after treatment (52% v 23%, P less than 0.001). Calving rates of lactating cows were not affected by these factors but were affected by treatment; PMSG produced no significant effect after a 7-day PRID treatment (33% overall) but increased calving rates after 14-day PRID treatments (22% v 46% v 37% for 0, 375 and 750 IU respectively, P less than 0.10). Comparisons of calving rates of lactating cows treated with 14-day PRID and PMSG and artificially inseminated, and untreated naturally mated cows, showed that treatment significantly increased the proportion of cows conceiving in the first 35 days of the mating period (50% v 23%, P less than 0.025). The results show that treatment with PRID for 14 days and PMSG can overcome post-partum anoestrus in lactating Brahman and Brahman-cross cows leading to significant reductions in the calving to conception interval.  相似文献

The relative merits of three hormone treatments of dairy cows: (1) intravaginally administered progesterone and oestradiol benzoate; (2) intravaginally administered progesterone and injected cloprostenol; and (3) injected cloprostenol; begun 35-75 days after calving and designed to synchronize oestrus and ovulation and allow successful artificial insemination (AI) at fixed times, have been assessed utilizing information from progesterone concentrations in milk. From this it was concluded that 89% of the cows had ovulated one to three times between calving and the beginning of treatment. Treatment (2) was more effective than (1) in synchronizing ovulation. This was due to the fact that when treatments began early in the ovulation cycle, the requirement for a rapidly effective luteolytic agent was provided by cloprostenol but not by oestradiol benzoate. Treatment (2) was also more effective than (3) in synchronizing ovulation. This is interpreted as meaning that progesterone treatment for 12 days had a beneficial effect in restoring normal cyclic ovarian function in the cows after calving. Whilst cloprostenol administered alone did not have this beneficial effect, there is no evidence that it had a detrimental effect. Based on all cows in treatment groups, the proportion that became pregnant to the fixed-time AI was significantly greater after treatment (2) than after (1), but when based on numbers of cows with synchronized ovulation, there were no significant differences among treatments in the proportions becoming pregnant. The progesterone/cloprostenol treatment had a disadvantage in that when begun during the 11-22 day period of the ovulation cycle, so resulting in a long, total period of suppression of ovulation (mean, 32.1 days), fertility to the fixed-time AI was poor despite effective synchronization of ovulation. Ovulation cycles immediately following the failed, fixed-time AI were normal, both in length and in maximum, luteal-phase progesterone concentration and indicated normal corpus luteum function. Thus the infertility could be ascribed neither to poor timing of AI nor to gross degeneration of follicles prior to their synchronized ovulation following the prolonged suppression of ovulation. The 12-day progesterone treatments when given to anovulatory cows gave, within 5.5 h of their beginning, a concentration of progesterone in milk that was not significantly different from the maximum reached. This concentration declined during the 12 days of the treatment but remained above pretreatment level until 5.5 h after treatment withdrawal; the maximum reached was about half that in normal ovulation cycles.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

A system for the artificial insemination fo beef cattle was described. The system involved preparation of the cattle and facilities, visual oestrous detection twice a day, drafting each morning and insemination of oestrous cows twice a day. The AI program was evaluated during the course of the program and at pregnancy test 35 to 90 days after the end of the insemination period. The insemination period was from 25 to 60 days depending on efficiency, with programs from 25 to 35 days being favoured. Results for 12218 first inseminations (65.9%) and 2222 second inseminations (57.8%) in 56 AI programs compared favourably with results in dairy AI. Pregnancy rates in lactating cows (70.5%) were significantly higher than in nonlactating cows and heifers (66.1%). Overall efficiency of well-managed AI programs were represented by 63% of cows put into a program becoming pregnant in a 29-day insemination period. Seventy-two per cent of the cows put into the program were inseminated yielding an 88% pregnancy rate. The efficiency of visual oestrous detection was 95% but this estimate did not include false positives. Efficiency of AI programs were effected by management, nutrition, infection, inseminators, facilities and the origin and type of cattle put into a program. Environmental factors such as handling, stress and thunderstorms did not effect efficiency except via a nutritional effect.  相似文献

Five experiments involving 1,244 cows and heifers were carried out to investigate the factors which might influence the calving performance to fixed-time artificial insemination following intravaginal administration of progesterone (PRID) and intramuscular injection of pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG). Factors examined were duration of PRID treatment, time of treatment after calving, time and dose PMSG and lactational status. Experiments 1, 2 and 3 were carried out on milked Friesian cows, experiment 4 on Friesian heifers and experiment 5 on suckled and dry Herefords. All cows were inseminated once with frozen/thawed semen 54 to 58 h or 46 to 50 h after completion of PRID treatment. Overall there was a progressive increase in calving rates with an increase in the duration of treatment from 12 to 14 to 16 days but there was little or no effect of time after calving (4 v 7 weeks) at which treatment was commenced. The poorer calving performance of cows treated for 12 to 14 days was associated with relatively high peripheral levels of plasma progesterone at the time of the PRID removal, suggesting the presence at the end of treatment of residual secretory luteal tissue. There was an effect on calving performance of PMSG given at the time of PRID removal but its effect varied according to the duration of PRID treatment. After 12 days treatments (experiments 1 and 5) PMSG had little effect, whereas after 14 days treatments, 0, 500 and 750 IU PMSG gave calving rates of 27%, 40% and 46% in experiment 2 and 5%, 24% and 38% in experiment 5.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Cycling (n = 16) and noncycling (n = 24), early postpartum, suckled beef cows of three breeds were assigned randomly to three treatments: 1) 100-microg injection of GnRH plus a 6-mg implant of norgestomet administered on d -7 before 25 mg of PGF2alpha and implant removal on d 0 (GnRH+NORG); 2) 100 microg of GnRH given on d -7 followed by 25 mg of PGF2alpha on d 0 (GnRH); or 3) 2 mL of saline plus a 6-mg implant of norgestomet administered on d -7 followed by 25 mg of PGF2, and implant removal on d 0 (NORG). All cows were given 100 microg of GnRH on d +2 (48 h after PGF2alpha). Blood sera collected daily from d -7 to d +4 were analyzed for progesterone and estradiol-17beta, and ovaries were monitored daily by transrectal ultrasonography to assess changes in ovarian structures. Luteal structures were induced in 75% of noncycling cows in both treatments after GnRH, resulting in elevated (P < .01) progesterone on d 0 for GnRH+NORG-treated cows. Concentrations of estradiol-17beta (P < .01) and LH (P < .05) were greater on d +2 after GnRH for cows previously receiving norgestomet implants. Pregnancy rates after one fixed-time AI at 16 h after GnRH (d +2) were greater (P < .05) in GnRH+NORG (71%) than in GnRH (31%) and NORG (15%) cows. Difference in pregnancy rate was due partly to normal luteal activity after AI in over 87% of GnRH+NORG cows and no incidence of short luteal phases. The GnRH+NORG treatment initially induced ovulation or turnover of the largest follicle, induction of a new follicular wave, followed later by increased concentrations of estradiol-17beta and progesterone. After PGF2alpha, greater GnRH-induced release of LH occurred in GnRH+NORG cows before ovulation, and pregnancy rates were greater after a fixed-time AI.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of category (heifers, primiparous or multiparous cows) on pregnancy rates in a large scale resynchronization ovulation program. Nelore heifers (n = 903), primiparous lactating cows (n = 338) and multiparous lactating cows (n = 1,223) were synchronized using a conventional protocol of estradiol/P4-based fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI). Thirty days after ultrasonography, females who failed the first FTAI were resynchronized with the same hormonal protocol prior to a second FTAI. The pregnancy status of each cohort was evaluated by ultrasonography 30 days after each FTAI. The average conception rate after the first FTAI and resynchronization was 80.5%. Heifers had a higher conception rate (85%) than primiparous (76%) or multiparous cows (78%; p = 0.0001). The conception rate after the first FTAI was similar among heifers (57%), primiparous cows (51%) and multiparous cows (56%; p = 0.193). After the second FTAI, heifers exhibited a higher conception rate (66%) than primiparous or multiparous cows (51%; p = 0.0001). These results demonstrate the feasibility of resynchronization in large beef herds for providing consistent pregnancy rates in a short period of time. We also demonstrated that ovulation resynchronization 30 days after FTAI is particularly effective for heifers, providing a conception rate of up to 66%.  相似文献

Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) in 15 small farms and an economic opportunity survey (EOS) in 13 were carried out in the Cordillera basin of Paraguay to identify production constraints and the best ways to achieve economic gain. PRA showed farmers’ perception was that nutrition was the main constraint. The EOS showed that over 70% of the milk produced was sold in the neighbourhood. The average number of adult cows (lactating and dry cows) per farm ranged from 15 to 120, of which 62.2% to 80% were lactating cows. Milk production per cow on one day ranged from 8.5 to 18.2 litres and average lactation length was more than 300 days. Average age at first calving varied from 31 to 39 months. The highest economic opportunity was observed for increased milk production. Age at first calving and calf production interval were also found to be important constraints. Ultrasonography survey of the ovaries 20 maiden heifers over six months showed inadequate activity. Partially budgeted interventions were instituted to improve nutrition and management of maiden heifers, in-calf cows and those in early lactation. More forages were grown. PRA and EOS were shown to be useful tools in identifying production constraints.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate associations of lactation, somatic cell count score (SCCS) at breeding, milk yield, lactation number, interval from calving to breeding (days open), number of times inseminated, and season of breeding on fetal loss for lactating Holstein females (both first-parity and multiparous cows) and nonlactating Holstein heifers in a hot climate. Females were palpated between d 40 and 50 of gestation and again at d 70 to 80 to determine pregnancy status. Early fetal loss was defined as a loss that occurred after d 40 to 50 but before d 70 to 80. Mid-to-late fetal loss represented losses after d 70 to 80 but before expected calving. Lactating females had higher early (P = 0.055) and mid-to-late fetal loss (P < 0.05) than nonlactating heifers. Those lactating females with increased days open experienced greater early (P < 0.05) and mid-to-late fetal loss (P = 0.055), whereas lactating females with an elevated SCCS encountered greater mid-to-late fetal loss (P < 0.01). Milk yield, lactation number, number of times inseminated, and season were not associated with early or mid-to-late fetal loss. For nonlactating heifers, there were no associations between number of times inseminated, season, or age at breeding on early or mid-to-late fetal loss. In conclusion, lactating females were more likely to suffer early and mid-to-late fetal loss than nonlactating heifers. Also, days open and SCCS at breeding were related to ability of lactating females to maintain pregnancy, but there were no relationships between fetal loss and milk yield, lactation number, number of times inseminated, or season.  相似文献

Our objectives were to compare the relative efficacies of three protocols designed to synchronize ovulation for timed artificial insemination (AI) of predominantly Brahman-influenced cows and heifers. In Exp. 1, 273 Brahman x Hereford (F1) cows at three locations were stratified by BW, body condition score (BCS), age, and days postpartum and assigned randomly to three treatments: 1) Syncro-Mate-B (SMB), 2) norgestomet-prostaglandin (NP), and 3) Ovsynch. The management goal required that cows have a minimum BCS of 5 and be at least 36 d postpartum (PP) at treatment onset. However, final results included 23 cows (8.4%) whose BCS fell below 5. In Exp. 2, 286 pubertal beef heifers were stratified by BW and BCS and allocated randomly to the three treatments. Heifers were predominantly Brahman crossbred (n = 265; Brahman x Hereford, F1; Santa Cruz) or purebred Brahman-influenced (Santa Gertrudis) with a smaller number (n = 21) of Hereford heifers also included. For both experiments, SMB treatment consisted of a 9-d norgestomet ear implant plus an estradiol valerate/norgestomet injection on d 0. Norgestomet-prostaglandin-treated females were implanted with a SMB implant without the estradiol valerate/norgestomet injection at the time of implant insertion and received 25 mg prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF) i.m. 2 d before implant removal. Ovsynch consisted of 100 microg GnRH i.m. on d 1, 25 mg PGF i.m. on d 8, and a second GnRH injection on d 10. Beginning on d 9, calves were removed for 48 h in Exp. 1. Cattle in SMB and NP groups in both experiments were timed-inseminated 48 to 54 h after implant removal and at 12 to 24 h after the second GnRH injection (Ovsynch). Timed AI conception rates did not differ between the SMB (45.1%) and Ovsynch (42.4%) groups; however, conception rate in the NP group tended (P < 0.12) to be lower overall than in the other groups due to a reduced (P < 0.05) conception rate in cows that were < 60 d PP at treatment onset. Conversely, timed-AI conception was greatest (P < 0.056) in NP (54.7%) compared with SMB (40.4%) and Ovsynch (39.1%) for heifers in Exp. 2. We conclude that in mature, suckled beef cows with Brahman genetic influence, SMB and Ovsynch perform similarly when cow eligibility relies primarily on BCS and minimum days PP. The NP treatment results in lower conception in cows < 60 d PP compared with SMB and Ovsynch. However, in nulliparous Brahman-influenced heifers that are confirmed to be pubertal, NP may be superior to the other two treatments for timed AI.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to compare two progestins and three treatments for synchronizing follicular wave emergence and ovulation in protocols for fixed-time AI in beef heifers. On d 0 (beginning of the experiment), Angus and Angus-Simmental cross beef heifers at random stages of the estrous cycle either received a CIDR-B device (n = 257) or were started on 0.5 mg x anima(-1) x d(-1) melengestrol acetate (MGA; n = 246) and were randomly assigned to receive i.m. injections of 100 microg GnRH, 12.5 mg porcine LH (pLH), or 2 mg estradiol benzoate (EB) and 50 mg progesterone (P4). The last feeding of MGA was given on d 6 and on d 7, CIDR-B devices were removed and all heifers received 500 microg cloprostenol (PG). Consistent with their treatment groups on d 0, heifers were given either 100 microg GnRH or 12.5 mg pLH 48 h after PG (and were concurrently inseminated) or 1 mg EB 24 h after PG and were inseminated 28 h later (52 h after PGF). Estrus rate (combined for both progestins) in heifers receiving EB (92.0%) was greater (P < 0.05) than that in heifers receiving GnRH and pLH (combined) and a CIDR-B device (62.9%) or MGA (34.3%). Although the mean interval from PG treatment to estrus did not differ among groups (overall, 47.8 h; P = 0.85), it was less variable (P < 0.01) in MGA-fed heifers (SD = 2.5 h) than in CIDR-B-treated heifers (SD = 8.1 h). Pregnancy rates (determined by ultrasonography approximately 30 d after AI) did not differ (P = 0.30) among the six treatment groups (average, 58.0%; range, 52.5 to 65.0%). Although fixed-time AI was done, pregnancy rates were greater in heifers detected in estrus than in those not detected in estrus (62.6 vs 51.9%; P < 0.05). In conclusion, GnRH, pLH, or EB treatment in combination with a CIDR-B device or MGA effectively synchronized ovulation-for fixed-time AI, resulting in acceptable pregnancy rates in beef heifers.  相似文献

Seventy-four heifers in four separate breeding groups were allocated into two treatment groups for oestrus synchronisation. Group 1 was given a combination of an initial injection of norgestomet and oestradiol valerate together with a norgestomet ear implant left in place for nine days. Group 2 was given two injections of the synthetic prostaglandin luprostiol 10 days apart. The animals in group 1 were artificially inseminated once 48 hours after the removal of the implant and those in group 2 were inseminated once 72 hours after the second injection of luprostiol. Subsequently any returns were rebred by either AI or natural service. There was no significant difference between the numbers of animals in the two treatment groups which were diagnosed pregnant 33 to 35 days after insemination, although the implant treatment gave a higher overall proportion of pregnancies (70 per cent, 51 per cent). It also gave significantly smaller numbers of 'open' days over the whole of the breeding period. A study of individual animals by progesterone assay and investigation of ovarian structures by real-time ultrasound showed that some of them had unusual progesterone profiles but nevertheless became pregnant. It would appear that a corpus luteum may be responsive to prostaglandins even though it is secreting only a low level of progesterone.  相似文献

The effects of artificial insemination (AI) using sexed sperm on pregnancy rates have seldom been studied in lactating dairy cows on commercial dairy farms. We evaluated pregnancy results after AI of 306 lactating dairy cows, of which 157 were inseminated with 2x10(6) frozen/thawed sexed sperm and 149 with 15x10(6) frozen/thawed unsexed sperm. The average pregnancy and calving rates were 21.0% and 20% for the sexed-sperm AIs and 46% and 45% for the unseparated control-sperm AIs respectively (p<0.001). The proportion of female calves derived from sexed-sperm AI was 82% compared with 49% for control AI (p<0.01). The proportion of live and healthy calves in single births was 100% for sexed-sperm AI and 97% for control AI (p>0.05). Our results indicate that AI with low-dose sexed sperm under field conditions in commercial dairy herds without oestrus synchronization results in significantly reduced pregnancy rates compared with normal-dose AI. Improved insemination strategies combined with increased sperm doses are needed before the use of sexed sperm can be of any significant benefit for the dairy and beef industry.  相似文献

SUMMARY Effects of body weight, condition score, ovarian cyclic status and insemination regimen on pregnancy rates were investigated in 164 Bos indicus heifers synchronised with norgestomet-oestradiol and pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG). Oestrus detection techniques were also compared. Heifers were inseminated at either a fixed time (group 1, n = 83) of 48.0 ± 0.2 h (mean ± SEM) after implant removal or at 8.9 ± 0.5 h after oestrus was detected (group 2, n = 81). Group 2 heifers that were not detected in oestrus by 72 h after implant removal were inseminated at that time. Oestrus was detected for the purpose of insemination using heatmount detectors. Tail-paint and oestrogen treated, chin-ball harnessed steers were used to compare the efficiency of oestrus detection. The probability of ovarian cyclicity increased with increasing body weight and condition score (P < 0.001). A higher proportion of heifers that were acyclic at the commencement of treatment, compared with cyclic heifers, were detected in oestrus at the time of insemination in the fixed-time inseminated group (P <0.01). Analysis of covariance revealed that intervals from implant removal to oestrus were influenced by ovarian cyclic status (P < 0.01) and insemination group (P < 0.05). A higher pregnancy rate (%± SEM) was obtained in acyclic compared with cyclic heifers in the group 1 heifers (50.0 ± 10 vs 28.1 ± 6; P = 0.055) but not among the group 2 heifers (45.8 ± 10 vs 49.1 ± 7; P = 0.787). The probability of pregnancy was found to be associated negatively with body weight (P = 0.01) while a higher pregnancy rate was obtained in the group 2 compared with group 1 heifers (48.2%vs 34.9%; P = 0.093). The efficiency of oestrus detection was highest using heatmount detectors compared with tail-paint and chin-ball harnessed steers (90.7%vs 37.0% and 23.5%, respectively; P < 0.0001). We conclude that pregnancy rates can be increased in extensive environments when insemination follows oestrus detection using heatmount detectors compared with a fixed-time insemination. The fertility of heifers inseminated at a fixed time is influenced by ovarian cyclic status due to its influence on oestrus-to-insemination intervals.  相似文献

A short calving to conception interval is of main importance to achieve high economic efficiency in dairy cow industry. In order to reduce this interval, several hormonal treatments have been put on the market, in which cloprostenol, a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha). The aim of this study was to compare fertility of cloprostenol-induced oestrus to that of spontaneous oestrus in dairy cows. In a group of 525 cows, 280 (treated group) were administered 0.5 mg cloprostenol i.m. after transrectal corpus luteum (CL) detection, and inseminated at detected oestrus during the following week. The other 245 cows (control group) were inseminated during spontaneous oestrus. Whey progesterone concentrations were checked at treatment and at insemination in order to remove from the study cows whose P4 levels indicate a non-functional CL, or a lack of luteolysis respectively. Moreover, cows that were not inseminated due to genital problems were also excluded from this study. Conception (59% vs 54.5%) and calving rates (93.7% vs 93%) were not significantly different between the two groups.  相似文献
