In Maine, fluctuations in the abundance of American lobster (Homarus americanus) and in seawater temperature have correlated well during the years since the first temperature measurements were made in 1905. Recent record catches in chronological sequence from the northern limit of range in Newfoundland to New York, while temperatures measured in Maine declined from higher to lower than optimum, suggest that at the present rate optimum conditions should reach the southern limit of the lobster's range by the mid-1970's.  相似文献

Measurements made once or twice a year from 1977 through 1982 show large correlated changes in gravity, elevation, and strain in several southern California networks. Precise gravity surveys indicate changes of as much as 25 microgals between surveys 6 months apart. Repeated surveys show that annual elevation changes as large as 100 millimeters occur along baselines 40 to 100 kilometers long. Laser-ranging surveys reveal coherent changes in areal strain of 1 to 2 parts per million occurred over much of southern California during 1978 and 1979. Although the precision of these measuring systems has been questioned, the rather good agreement among them suggests that the observed changes reflect true crustal deformation.  相似文献

Average species durations were estimated for 131 commonly occurring modern species. The duration of species occurring at depths of less than 200 meters is 16 million years, while for those at greater than 200 meters and at all depths it is 25 to 26 million years. Species (less than 200 meters) distributed from Florida to Newfoundland and from Florida to Cape Hatteras have about the same durations (18 to 20 million years). The duration for species restricted to north of Cape Hatteras is only 7 million years. The data suggest that evolutionary rates are greater in shallower than in deeper depths and greatest in the shallower northern area.  相似文献

Aircraft laser-altimeter surveys over southern Greenland in 1993 and 1998 show three areas of thickening by more than 10 centimeters per year in the southern part of the region and large areas of thinning, particularly in the east. Above 2000 meters elevation the ice sheet is in balance but thinning predominates at lower elevations, with rates exceeding 1 meter per year on east coast outlet glaciers. These high thinning rates occur at different latitudes and at elevations up to 1500 meters, which suggests that they are caused by increased rates of creep thinning rather than by excessive melting. Taken as a whole, the surveyed region is in negative balance.  相似文献

Impacts of chronic overfishing are evident in population depletions worldwide, yet indirect ecosystem effects induced by predator removal from oceanic food webs remain unpredictable. As abundances of all 11 great sharks that consume other elasmobranchs (rays, skates, and small sharks) fell over the past 35 years, 12 of 14 of these prey species increased in coastal northwest Atlantic ecosystems. Effects of this community restructuring have cascaded downward from the cownose ray, whose enhanced predation on its bay scallop prey was sufficient to terminate a century-long scallop fishery. Analogous top-down effects may be a predictable consequence of eliminating entire functional groups of predators.  相似文献

Peridotitic and highly magnesian pyroxenitic komatiites, thus far known to occur almost exclusively in the Archean (before 2.5 x 10(9) years ago) terranes, are reported from an Ordovician (0.5 x 10(9) years) ophiolite suite in Newfoundland. Their occurrence as pillow lavas or as chilled dikes, their possession of quench textures and geochemical parameters such as high contents of magnesium oxide, nickel, and chromium and low contents of titanium dioxide and potassium monoxide, low ratios of iron to iron plus magnesium, and values of the ratio of calcium oxide to aluminum oxide of close to unity demonstrate that they were formed through the rapid cooling of a highly mobile komatiitic melt. These features resemble those of many Archean peridotitic-pyroxenitic komatiites and indicate that the Archean-type magmatism did prevail in the younger segments of the earth's history although perhaps in a more erratc manner.  相似文献

随着乡村旅游的蓬勃发展,民宿以其个性化的服务区别于传统酒店而深受旅游者的青睐。近年来,中国的民宿业开始呈现出品牌化、专业化和集群化的趋势。选取安徽省南部六市的民宿作为研究对象,基于高德地图API获取该区域内的民宿POI数据并对其空间分布特征及影响因素进行深入研究,得出以下结论:皖南地区民宿在空间上呈"一大一中一小一微"的集聚分布格局;影响其空间分布的两个主要因子为旅游景区数量和森林覆盖率,影响力次之的因子为人口密度,而公路交通和地区经济发展等因子影响力较弱;皖南地区民宿类型多为乡村民宿,其选址和分布与地区经济发展特别是第二产业发展呈反向关系,民宿选址多为工业污染少的乡村地区,对县级道路依赖程度较高。  相似文献

Newly discovered, exceptionally preserved, soft-bodied fossils near Spaniard's Bay in eastern Newfoundland exhibit features not previously described from Ediacaran (terminal Neoproterozoic) fossils. All of the Spaniard's Bay taxa were composed of similar architectural elements-centimeter-scale frondlets exhibiting three orders of fracticality in branching. Frondlets were combined as modules atop semi-rigid organic skeletons to form a wide array of larger constructions, including frondose and plumose structures. This architecture and construction define the "rangeomorphs," a biological clade that dominated the Mistaken Point assemblage (575 to 560 million years ago) but does not appear to be ancestral to any Phanerozoic or modern organisms.  相似文献

It is not possible at present to demonstrate hominid occupation of southern Africa prior to the middle or late Pliocene, perhaps 3 million years ago. It may be the case that much, if not most, of the subcontinent was in fact uninhabited before that. The earliest hominid known to have lived in southern Africa is Australopithecus africanus. It was apparently replaced by Homo (?evolved into Homo) by 2 million years ago, at approximately the same time as A. robustus is first recorded locally. Homo and A. robustus then coexisted until perhaps 1 million years ago, after which Homo survived alone. There is no solid evidence that either of the southern African australopithecines made tools or accumulated bones. In fact, at the known sites, it now seems more likely that the bones, including those of the australopithecines themselves, were accumulated by carnivores. The known archeological record of southern Africa begins 2 million to 1.5 million years ago and the oldest stone tools may belong to the Oldowan Industry. Far better documentation exists for the succeeding Acheulean Industrial Complex, which was present in southern Africa almost certainly before 1 million years ago and persisted with modifications probably until sometime between 300,000 and 130,000 years ago. Although it is known that Acheulean peoples made handaxes, cleavers, and other stone tools, very little else is known about the activities of Acheuleans in southern Africa. Far more is known about their Middle and Later Stone Age successors. Southern African MSA peoples were perhaps among the earliest anywhere to take systematic advantage of aquatic resources for their subsistence, although they apparently did so far less effectively than did the LSA peoples who followed them. There are also contrasts between the ways in which MSA and LSA peoples dealt with terrestrial prey and between the contents of MSA and LSA artifact assemblages. The LSA peoples, for example, seem to have made much more extensive use of bone as a raw material, and they were the first to manufacture articles that are clearly interpretable as ornaments or art objects. From an evolutionary perspective, the LSA may represent a quantum advance over the MSA, perhaps correlated with the replacement of an archaic human physical type by the modem one. However, this must remain only a working hypothesis until much more is learned about the earliest LSA, dating to 35,000 to 40,000 years ago or more, and until there are adequate samples of well-provenienced MSA and early LSA physical remains. The later LSA, postdating 20,000 to 18,000 years ago, is reasonably well known. Later LSA peoples were probably at least partly responsible for the extinction of several large mammals in southern Africa about 10,000 years ago. By that date or shortly thereafter, at least some LSA peoples established basic hunting-gathering adaptations, which continued until the introduction and spread of agriculture and pastoralism, beginning roughly 2000 years ago. Thereafter, hunters and gatherers became progressively restricted in numbers and distribution, such that today only a very few exist, restricted to some of the most marginal environments of the subcontinent. It remains a major goal of southern African archeology to shed more light on the evolution and operation of hunting-gathering cultures during the vast time span when they covered all of southern Africa.  相似文献

近年来,滇南地区红肉猕猴桃发展较为迅速,而且有潜力成为我国红肉猕猴桃的优势产区。但也存在着冷量不足、栽培技术不成体系等问题,导致红肉猕猴桃整体产量不高和品质不稳定。针对这些问题,我们开展了“云南猕猴桃促花调控技术创新”的研究,对促花调控技术、壮果技术、修剪、强制休眠技术、防风防雹等方面进行了试验示范和技术集成,形成完整的栽培技术体系。在实践中,该技术体系取得了较好的应用效果。本文是对该技术要点进行总结,供滇南地区猕猴桃生产者和科技人员参考,以促进猕猴桃产业健康有序地发展。  相似文献

红树林是热带和亚热带潮间带的木本植物群落。温度是制约红树植物生长的主要因子,在全球变暖的今天,将有利于红树林的分布向北扩移。浙南红树林开发前景广阔,浙南沿海地区有着漫长的海岸线,拥有丰富的滩涂资源,宜林地面积达4280.4hm^2,通过人工引种红树或半红树,在浙南建立具有防护功能、净化功能以及观赏功能等海岸防护林体系,具有重要现实意义。以浙南作为中国红树林人工引种北界的温州西门岛为例,历史上红树林面积超过10.0hm^2,但受堤塘改建、围塘养殖和海岸工程建设等因素的影响,红树林面积急剧减少,仅剩0.2hm^2。近年来,浙南各级政府都在加大红树林移植投入,但都还未成林。通过分析这些年浙南红树林引种试验结果,发现除了温度之外,种植红树林所面临的主要威胁因子还有以下几个方面:①近岸海域水质污染严重;②人为的损害;③海洋生物的危害;④滩涂养殖的影响;⑤近岸海域固体废弃物的影响。提出加强浙南红树林的保护和修复工作的一些建议,即加强红树林宣传教育,制定保护条例,注重浙江红树林科研人才培养与保护队伍建设,加速红树林湿地的生态修复进程,开展红树林保护研究,旨在为引种造林及政府相关部门提供参考依据。  相似文献
