OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of periparturient disease accompanied by vulval discharge, and weaning-to-mating intervals, on sow fertility and litter size. DESIGN REPRODUCTIVE: data were collected and analysed from 19 Hungarian swine herds over a 4 year period. Conception rates, farrowing rates and litter sizes of sows with periparturient disease accompanied by vulval discharge were used to evaluate the relationship between duration of vulval discharge and subsequent fertility and litter size. The possibility of interactions between weaning-to-mating intervals and duration of vulval discharges was investigated to determine if there was any effect on subsequent fertility and litter size. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Both parity 1 and parity 2 to 8 sows having had periparturient disease accompanied by vulval discharge in excess of 6 days duration had significantly (P < 0.001) lower subsequent fertility (conception, farrowing and adjusted farrowing rates) compared with sows of similar parity where the duration of vulval discharge was < 4 or 4 to 6 days. There was no difference in fertility rates between sows, in both parity categories, with vulval discharge for < 4 days compared with 4 to 6 days. A duration of vulval discharge in excess of 6 days in parity 1 sows significantly reduced litter size (total born and live-born) in subsequent farrowings, but not in parity 2 to 8 sows. There was no interaction between the duration of vulval discharge and post-weaning to mating intervals. However sows with weaning to mating intervals between 7 and 10 days had smaller (P < 0.001) subsequent litter sizes compared with 3 to 6 or 11 to 14 day intervals. It was concluded that the duration of vulval discharge in excess of 6 days was an indication of a severe persistent endometritis adversely affecting fertility of sows.  相似文献

To prove the effect of postparturient swine urogenital disease (SUGD) on reproductive performance, culled sows with SUGD in their previous history (n=1363) were subjected to retrospective lifetime production analysis. The sows were assigned to parity groups 1, 2 to 6, and >6. Bacterial flora of vulval discharges were evaluated. Parity 1 sows had a lower percentage of SUGD than did sows of parity 2 to 6 and parity >6 (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). Compared with parity 2 to 6 sows, parity 1 and parity >6 sows had lower (P < 0.001) conception, farrowing and adjusted farrowing rates, lifetime average total born, live-born litter sizes, stillbirth rates, and weaning litter weights compared with animals culled for other reasons than SUGD. The conclusions are that high parity sows have a higher occurrence of postparturient SUGD and that higher parity sows with postparturient SUGD have a lower performance compared with lower parity sows with postparturient SUGD.  相似文献

Systemic infections with Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae are usually associated with skin lesions, vegetative endocarditis and arthritis, but they can also cause reproductive symptoms such as abortion, increased stillbirths, and smaller litter size. In a large Hungarian breeding unit that had ceased to vaccinate the sows against erysipelas, an increased incidence of pre- and post-partal vulval discharge, increased weaning-to-oestrus intervals, decreased farrowing rates, and reductions in total number of pigets born and live-born litter size were reported. Anterior vaginal swabs were obtained from 64 sows shortly before parturition and they all yielded heavy growths of E. rhusiopathiae . A vaccination programme with a killed vaccine was reinstated and subsequently the incidence of vulval discharge and weaning-to-oestrus intervals were decreased and total born and live-born litter size were increased. In the absence of a control group definitive conclusions can not be made regarding the effect of vaccination against E. rhusiopathiae on sow fertility. However, it is not unreasonable to suggest that the aetiology of the reduced sow fertility in the present herd did involve E. rhusiopathiae and that appropriate vaccinations subsequently protected the sows from the disease.  相似文献

试验研究了采用不同管理方式对临产母猪产仔性能的影响。选取某生态养殖场4栋猪舍共160头母猪分成8组进行对比试验,其中1、2组和5、6组为试验组,3、4组和7、8组为对照组。在正常饲养管理的基础上.将1、2组母猪提前1周赶入分娩室并肌注氯前列烯醇0.1mg/头;3、4组母猪提前1周赶入分娩室但不注射氯前列烯醇;5、6组母猪待能挤出奶后赶入分娩室并肌注氯前列烯醇0.1mg/头;7、8组母猪待到能挤出奶后赶入分娩室但不注射氯前列烯醇。结果表明:产前注射药物的母猪其产活仔数比不注射药物的母猪高且差异显著(P〈O.05),死胎和木乃伊胎比例显著下降(P〈0.05),而且母猪的分娩时间明显集中;挤出奶水时再进产房的母猪其产活仔数比提前1周再进产房显著增加(P〈0.05),死胎率和木乃伊胎率显著减少(P〈0.05)。可见,注射氯前列烯醇和待挤出奶水时再进产房的母猪均可提高母猪的窝均产活仔数,降低死胎率;试验5、6组的母猪产仔性能最佳。其次是7、8组。  相似文献

为了准确估计各固定效应及遗传效应对木乃伊发生的影响,本研究通过对数据筛选并利用广义线性模型对品种、配种月份、产仔月份、胎次进行了分析,并进一步估计了木乃伊发生的遗传力。结果显示、品种对木乃伊发生的影响差异不显著(P=0.375)。配种月份在8、10月时对产木乃伊的影响最大,其固定效应值分别为1.592和1.658。产仔月份在5、7月时对木乃伊的产生有着较大影响,其固定效应值分别为1.399和0.906。第1胎次对木乃伊的影响在前4胎中较大,固定效应值为-0.507,而第5胎次影响为最大,固定效应值为0.073,之后随着胎次的增加对木乃伊的发生影响降低。木乃伊发生的遗传力为0.38。通过此项研究发现除疾病因素外,综合环境因素对木乃伊的发生影响最大(P<0.01);其次为胎次(P<0.05);而品种对木乃伊的发生无显著影响(P>0.05)。  相似文献

In a Slowakian indoor pig production unit, with high prevalence of vaginal-vulval discharges, the sows were subjected one day prefarrowing to urine analysis. Sows suffering urinary tract infection (UTI) were assigned to an UTI group (group 1, n = 384), the remaining sows were classified as free of UTI and were assigned to group 2 (n = 1099). Total born litter size, liveborn litter size, weaning litter size and the occurrence of periparturient diseases, reasons for sow cullings at weaning, subsequent weaning to estrus intervals, conceptions- and farrowing rate, next total born- and lifeborn litter size and the occurrence of periparturient diseases were evaluated. UTI having sows had smaller (p < 0.05) total born litter size (11.71 +/- 1.11) when compared to the healthy animals (12.97 +/- 1.25). Liveborn litter size was significantly (p < 0.01) lower in group 1 (10.21 +/- 0.81 vs. group 2: 11.31 +/- 1.21). The occurrence of periparturient diseases revealed highly significant (p < 0.001) differences between the groups (group one 26.24% vs. group two 4.64%). Weaning litter size showed significant (p < 0.05) differences between group 1 (9.21 +/- 1.02) and 2 (10.11 +/- 0.37). More (p < 0.05) sows were culled post-weaning in the UTI group, compared to the healthy animals. Causes of post-weaning cullings differed between the groups: all sows of the group one had the pathological signs of swine urogenital disease at culling, while the majority of sows of the group 2 were culled due to locomotor problems and chronic mastitis. Subsequent weaning to estrus intervals, conceptions-, and farrowing rate and next total born litter size differed significantly (p < 0.05) between the groups, next lifeborn litter size (p < 0.01) and the occurrence of periparturient diseases (p < 0.001) were high significantly better in the healthy than in the UTI suffering group of sows. Implications: antepartal UTI might be the sign of swine urogenital disease and might negatively influence the sows reproductive performance.  相似文献

为了研究胎次对杜洛克、长白和大白母猪繁殖性能的影响,根据江苏省某国家级生猪核心育种场2009-2011年出生的繁殖母猪资料,分别选取128头杜洛克、681头长白和610头大白母猪共7280窝生产数据,统计分析不同胎次母猪的总产仔数、产活仔数、断奶仔猪数、初生窝重及校正21日龄窝重。此外,依据胎次将母猪分为3个繁殖阶段(1~2胎、3~6胎及7~8胎)来探究品种差异对母猪繁殖性能的影响。结果表明:胎次对母猪繁殖性能有显著影响(P<0.05),母猪1~4胎的总产仔数、产活仔数、断奶仔猪数及初生窝重随胎次呈增加趋势,第4胎达到高峰,且显著高于其他胎次(P<0.05);3~6胎繁殖性能较好,7胎之后出现迅速下降趋势;除在第4胎略有下降外,其他胎次的校正21日龄窝重随胎次递增。品种对母猪繁殖性能的影响显著(P<0.05),长白和大白母猪的繁殖性能均极显著高于杜洛克母猪(P<0.01);长白母猪的产活仔数和校正21日龄窝重显著高于大白母猪(P<0.05),2个品种其他繁殖性能无显著差异(P>0.05)。综上所述,杜洛克、长白和大白母猪的最佳繁殖胎次为3~6胎,长白猪的繁殖性能总体上优于大白猪,就本试验所在的育种场而言,长白猪可能更适合作为二元母猪生产中的母本。  相似文献

Sixteen farms having an average lactation length between 14.9 and 18.9 days were selected based upon producers' willingness to keep records of production and lactation feed intake. Data contained 9162 subsequent litter-size records abstracted from computerized production information-system files and lactation feed-intake records. Two-way interactions between the associations of parity and lactation length, and parity and weaning-to-conception interval with subsequent litter size were found in the same statistical model. Subsequent litter size did not increase in parities 1 and 2 as lactation length increased – but subsequent litter size in sows of parities 3–6 increased. In only parity 1, sows with weaning-to-conception interval 6–12 days produced 0.5 fewer pigs at subsequent farrowing than those with weaning-to-conception interval 1–5 days. However, in multiparous sows, no difference in subsequent litter size was found between weaning-to-conception intervals 1–5 and 6–12 days.  相似文献

Forty-five gravid cross-bred sows (mean parity 3.3 +/- .3) were randomly allotted to two dietary treatments: corn-soybean mean (CS) or CS plus 60 mg salinomycin per kilogram of diet (CSS). Sows were fed their respective diets through two successive parities with dietary treatment initiated at 100 d postcoitum and continued until weaning of the second successive litter. Therefore, sows fed CSS received salinomycin for 14 d before the first parturition and for approximately 153 d before the second parturition. Daily feed intake was restricted to 2 kg.hd-1.d-1 during gestation and to 3 kg.hd-1.d-1 from weaning to breeding. All sows. had ad libitum access to feed during lactation. Sows were weighed 7 d prior to parturition, at weaning and at breeding. Weaning-to-estrus interval and farrowing interval were recorded for all sows. Litters were weighed at birth and weaning. There were no differences (P greater than .05) between dietary treatments in sow weights before parturition, at weaning or at breeding for either first or second farrowing. The CSS-fed sows lost more weight from weaning to breeding after the first (P less than .03) and second (P less than .05) lactation periods than CS-fed sows. The CSS-fed sows tended to gain more (P = .06) weight during lactation than CS-fed sows. Sows from five commercial herds were weaned in the fall and winter and used to ascertain the potential application of hormonal therapy to stimulate subsequent litter size born. At weaning sows within parity (1, 2, and 3 through 6) and lactation length classification (early weaned, < or = 14 d; conventionally weaned, > 14 d) were randomly assigned to treatment. Treatments were injection with P.G. 600 (400 IU PMSG with 200 IU hCG) at weaning or no treatment. Sows were individually observed for estrus and mated following protocol for each herd. Breeding, culling, and farrowing data were collected. Treatment with P.G. 600 did not change subsequent rebreeding performance for sows at parity 1 or parities 3 through 6. However, conventionally weaned parity-2 sows treated with P.G. 600 were more likely (P < .05) to return to estrus than conventionally weaned controls (99.0 vs 93.6%, respectively). For parity-1 and parity-2 sows, treatment did not significantly change the likelihood for farrow percentage. However, the likelihood to farrow a litter was greater (P < .05) among P.G. 600-treated sows at parities 3 to 6 that were conventionally weaned (84.4 vs 71.3%, respectively). Subsequent litter birth weight for parity-1 sows treated with P.G. 600 was lower (P < .02) than for controls (15.6 vs 16.6 kg, respectively). Subsequent litter size at birth was not affected by treatment for parity-1 or parity-2 sows compared with controls. However, early-weaned sows at parities 3 through 6 treated with P.G. 600 had more (P < .06) total number born than controls (12.4 vs 10.6, respectively). Treatment with P.G. 600 improved reproductive function within specific parity and lactation length classification for sows weaned in the fall and winter.  相似文献

Factors affecting length of productive life in Swedish commercial sows   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The objective of this study was to investigate factors that might influence the length of productive life in Swedish crossbred (Landrace x Yorkshire) sows. The data set consisted of 20,310 sows farrowing between 2001 and 2004 in 21 commercial piglet-producing herds. Productive life (PL) was defined as the number of days between first farrowing and removal or termination of data collection. In addition to the overall risk analysis of PL, another 4 longevity traits were analyzed (competing risk analyses): reproductive disorder-determined length of PL (RPL), udder problem-determined length of PL (UPL), lameness-determined length of PL (LPL), and mortality-determined length of PL (MPL). Analyses were performed by using survival analysis, applying a Weibull model with 6 time-dependent and 1 time-independent variable (age at first farrowing). The factor with the largest contribution to the likelihood function for PL was days after farrowing, followed by parity, the herd x year combination, the total number of piglets born, days between weaning and next farrowing, farrowing month, and age at first farrowing. For all 4 competing risk traits, the factors contributing most to the likelihood function were days after farrowing, the herd x year combination, and parity, with a varied order between traits. The hazard for removal was greatest 30 to 40 d after farrowing (after weaning) for PL, UPL, and LPL (P < 0.001). However, for MPL the hazard was greatest just after farrowing (0 to 10 d), and for RPL the hazard peaked at 70 to 100 d after farrowing. The hazard for removal was, compared with parity 1, less in parities 2 to 7 and greater from parity 8 for PL (P < 0.001). The hazard was greatest in parity 1 (P < 0.01) for RPL, UPL, and LPL, whereas for MPL the hazard increased with greater parity number and was markedly greater from parity 9 (P < 0.001). Sows with litters of 9 piglets or less had a greater hazard for removal than sows with litters of 12 to 13 piglets (P < 0.001). Intervals between 120 and 122 d from weaning to the next farrowing showed the lowest hazard for removal (P < 0.001). The influence of farrowing month displayed no clear pattern for PL. Sows of 14 mo or older at their first farrowing had a 20% greater hazard for removal than younger sows (P < 0.001). The hazard for removal was greater for smaller litters in all parities but was more accentuated in greater parities. Overall, days after farrowing was the main risk factor for sow removal. Removal hazard was greatest shortly after weaning, and this peak increased with greater parity number.  相似文献

为了比较不同规模猪场不同胎次母猪繁殖力的高低,本研究采集了106家不同规模猪场母猪的详细生产数据。按母猪实际存栏头数将猪场划分为<1 000、1 000~5 000、5 000~10 000和≥10 000头4个规模,分析不同规模猪场母猪1~9胎次活仔率、健仔率、畸形仔率、死胎率、木乃伊率、断奶活仔率及窝均产总仔数、窝均产活仔数、窝均产健仔数、窝均产死胎数、窝均断奶活仔数、窝均出生个体重、窝均出生窝重等相关繁殖指标的差异。结果表明,在胎次相同的情况下,猪场活仔率、健仔率和断奶活仔率随着饲养规模的扩大呈逐渐升高的趋势,而畸形仔率、死胎率和木乃伊率则呈相反趋势。母猪实际存栏头数≥10 000头的猪场1~7胎次(第4胎除外)的活仔率、健仔率和断奶活仔率均显著高于<1 000头猪场(P<0.05),而与其他两个规模猪场差异不显著(P>0.05)。母猪存栏数<1 000头的猪场1、2、3、5、7胎次的死胎率显著高于其他3个规模猪场(P<0.05)。各个胎次的窝均产总仔数、产活仔数、产健仔数、畸形仔数、死胎数、木乃伊数、出生窝重都随着猪场饲养规模的扩大呈逐渐降低的趋势。<1 000头的猪场第2、3胎的母猪窝均产总仔数、产活仔数、产死胎数、窝均断奶活仔数、窝均出生窝重均显著高于其他3个规模猪场(P<0.05)。综上,养殖规模对不同胎次母猪生产力均产生较大影响,中大规模猪场(≥1 000头)的母猪繁殖力整体上低于小规模猪场(<1 000头),但仔猪的体况和成活率要优于小规模猪场。  相似文献

A total of 36 gilts were used to assess the effects of Cr tripicolinate supplementation on immune response in sows and their offspring during the periparturient and neonatal period. Gilts were raised from weaning to reproductive age on diets with either 0 (-Cr) or 200 (+Cr) ppb supplemental Cr from CrPic. Subsequently, 22 gilts (9 -Cr and 13 +Cr) in parity 1 and 16 sows in parity 2 (7 -Cr and 9 +Cr) underwent immune status testing. Only sows that completed all procedures in parity 1 were included in parity 2. Sows were immunized with ovalbumin about 3 wk (d 0), and again 14 d later for gilts, prior to anticipated farrowing, and serum was collected on d 0 and at 14-d intervals for a total of four samples. Serum was collected from five to six pigs/litter at 24 h after birth, three or six pigs/litter the day after weaning (25 d of age) in parity 1, and three pigs/litter the day of weaning (20 d of age) in parity 2. Milk was collected at 1 h (colostrum), 6.5 d (early), and 19 d (late) after farrowing. The only effect of Cr on total immunoglobulin (Ig) concentration was on sow serum IgG (21.7 and 24.1 mg/mL for -Cr and +Cr, respectively; P = 0.08) and IgM (11.0 and 12.5 mg/mL; P = 0.06) on d 0. No effect (P > 0.15) of Cr was observed on the IgG antibody response to ovalbumin, but Cr was associated (P < 0.10) with a decreased IgM antibody response to ovalbumin beginning on d 14. In parity 2, colostral total IgG increased (80.6 and 92.4 mg/mL for parity 1 and 2, respectively; P = 0.06), which was reflected in the neonates at 24 h after birth (33.6 and 39.7 mg/mL; P = 0.01) and at weaning (7.3 and 13.3 mg/mL; P < 0.001). Supplementation of Cr tripicolinate had minimal effects on humoral antibody response of the dam or its transfer to the neonate; however, parity greatly influenced the concentrations of immunoglobulins in the milk and their transfer to the neonate.  相似文献

【目的】 分析胎次、配种季节和与配公猪3个固定效应对大白母猪妊娠天数的影响,估计妊娠天数的遗传参数并探索其与总产仔数、产活仔数、初生窝重、死胎数、木乃伊数的关系。【方法】 收集2 138头大白母猪妊娠天数、总产仔数、产活仔数、初生窝重、死胎数及木乃伊数6种生产表型,共包含4个胎次(1~4)的4 261条记录。利用一般线性模型分析试验猪群的固定效应对妊娠天数的影响,并采用多性状重复力模型估计妊娠天数与其他繁殖性状的遗传参数(遗传力、重复力、遗传相关、表型相关)。【结果】 大白母猪平均妊娠天数为116.08 d,经t检验分析与114 d差异显著(P<0.05)。胎次对妊娠天数有显著影响,且第1胎妊娠期显著短于第2胎(P<0.05);配种季节对妊娠天数有极显著影响(P<0.01),春季配种的母猪妊娠天数最短,秋季配种的母猪妊娠天数最长,相差0.73 d (P<0.05);与不同公猪个体配种后母猪的妊娠天数之间有显著差异(P<0.05),差异最大达3.05 d。妊娠天数遗传力为0.1603,与总产仔数、产活仔数、初生窝重、死胎数及木乃伊数之间均呈现负表型和负遗传相关。【结论】 妊娠天数受到多种因素的影响,且具有遗传性,与母猪总产仔数等繁殖性状有显著相关,可作为养猪生产的间接指标,对准确把握母猪预产期、实现精准饲养管理具有重要意义。  相似文献

Gilts (n = 208) were used to evaluate the effect of lysine (protein) intake over three parities on lactation and subsequent reproductive performance. Sows were assigned randomly to one of five experimental diets at each farrowing. The five corn-soybean mealbased lactation diets contained increasing concentrations of total lysine (.60, .85, 1.10, 1.35, and 1.60%) and CP (14.67, 18.15, 21.60, 25.26, and 28.82%). Other amino acids were provided at a minimum of 105% of the NRC (1988) ratio to the lysine requirement. Sows had ad libitum access to their assigned diets from parturition until weaning (19.5+/-.2 d postpartum). All sows were fed a common gestation diet (14% CP and .68% lysine) from weaning to next farrowing. Litter size was standardized by d 3 postpartum to 10 pigs in parity 1 and 11 pigs in parity 2 and 3. Increasing dietary lysine (protein) linearly decreased (P<.05) voluntary feed intake of parity 1 (from 5.4 to 4.6 kg/d), 2 (from 6.5 to 5.8 kg/d), and 3 sows (from 6.8 to 6.2 kg/d). With the increase of dietary lysine (protein) concentration during lactation, litter weight gain responded quadratically (P<.05) in all three parities. Maximal litter ADG was 2.06, 2.36, and 2.49 kg/d in parities 1, 2, and 3, respectively, which occurred at about 44, 55, and 56 g/d of lysine intake for parity 1, 2, and 3 sows, respectively. Increasing dietary lysine (protein) had no effect (P>.1) on sow weight change, weaning-to-estrus interval, and farrowing rate in all three parities and no effect on backfat change in parity 2 and 3, but tended to increase backfat loss linearly (P<.1) in parity 1. A linear decrease of second litter size (total born, from 11.7 to 10.1, P<.1; born alive, from 11.0 to 8.9, P<.01) was observed when dietary lysine (protein) increased during the first lactation. Lysine (protein) intake during the second lactation had a quadratic effect on third litter size (P<.05; total born: 13.3, 11.2, 11.6, 11.9, and 13.6; born alive: 11.8, 10.1, 10.3, 11.2, and 12.4). However, fourth litter size was not influenced by lysine (protein) intake during the third lactation. These results suggest that the lysine (protein) requirement for subsequent reproduction is not higher than that for milk production. Parity influences the lysine (protein) requirement for lactating sows and the response of subsequent litter size to previous lactation lysine (protein) intake.  相似文献

The urogenital organs and mammary glands of sows, culled because of excessive vulval discharge, milking problems, and urogenital infections (swine urogenital disease, SUGD) in their history (n=1070 sows) were examined. The culled sows were assigned to three groups according to parity: parity 1 (n=356); 2-6 (n=354); and >6 (n=360). Necropsy findings associated with these groups were analysed separately. Bacteriological examination of vulval discharges was performed. Escherichia coli and a large number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms were found in all samples of vulval discharge. Except ovarian degeneration and oedematous endometrium, older sows had more (P<0.05) pathological changes in the oviduct, ovaries, and uteri than younger (parity 1) sows. More (P<0.05) parity 1 sows had hyperaemic and congested vaginal walls and haemorrhages into the vaginal lumen than sows of higher parity, which suffered more (P<0.05) from accumulation of purulent material in the vaginal lumen, fibrinopurulent exudate adherent to the wall of the vagina, multifocal vaginal erosions and ulcerations, and purulent, mucopurulent or purulohaemorrhagic exudate in the vagina or on the cervix. Except acute pyelonephritis, mucosal hyperaemia, and congestion of the urinary bladder, more (P<0.05) sows of higher parity had pathological changes in their urinary organs. More (P<0.05) parity 1 sows had acute or chronic purulent exudative mastitis than sows of higher parity, which had more (P<0.05) mammary gland abscessation, mammary gland cysts, and fibrous mastitis. All parity 2-6 and >6 sows had mammary gland and bladder changes, parity >6 sows had changes in the kidney, and renal pelvis, and parity 1 sows had mammary gland changes. Most parity 1 sows had bladder, kidney, and renal pelvis alterations and most parity 2-6 animals had pathological kidney and renal pelvis changes.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors of stillbirth and foetal mummification in 565 farrowings of four commercial pig farms in Brazil. Stillborn piglets were observed in 31.3% of the litters and the stillborn risk was 5.6%. Mummified foetuses occurred in 42.1% of the litters and the mummification risk was 3.4%. The potential risk factors were included in multivariable logistic regression models as categories: herd (1–4); parity (1, 2–5 and >5); litter size (<10, 10–12 and >12 piglets); farrowing length (≤3 or >3 h); presence of mummified foetuses (yes or no); farrowing induction (yes or no); use of oxytocin (yes or no); use of vaginal palpation (yes or no); body condition score (<3, 3 and ≥4), and placental production index (PPI) (≤5 or >5) which was measured as the ratio of total foetal weight to total placental weight. Duration of farrowing and use of farrowing induction, oxytocin or vaginal palpation were not included in the model that investigated the risk factors of foetal mummification. Two models were used to investigate the risk factors of stillbirth, one with and the other without the inclusion of farrowing length. When compared to sows of parity 2–5, sows of parity >5 had 1.7- and 1.6-times higher odds (P < 0.05) for stillbirth in the models with and without the inclusion of farrowing length, respectively. In both models, sows with more than 12 piglets/litter had 3.6-times higher odds of stillbirth occurrence compared to sows with less than 10 piglets (P < 0.05). Sows with prolonged farrowing (>3 h) had 2.0-times higher odds of stillbirth occurrence than sows with short farrowing (P < 0.05). Sows with more than 12 piglets/litter had 14.5-times higher odds of mummification compared to sows with less than 10 piglets (P < 0.05). Sows of parities 1 and >5 had 3.5- and 2.0-times, respectively, higher odds of mummification in comparison to sows of parity 2–5 (P < 0.05). Sows with low PPI had 1.7-times higher odds of mummification compared to those with high PPI (P < 0.05). A large litter, a high-parity and a prolonged farrowing increased the risk of stillbirth. The probability of having a mummified foetus was increased in very young and older sows, when having a large litter and a litter with a less efficient placenta.  相似文献

Up to 109,447 records of 49,656 Large White sows were used to evaluate the genetic relationship between number of pigs born dead (BD) and number born alive (BA) in first and later parities. Performance data (n = 30,832) for ultrasound backfat (BF) at the end of the test and days to reach 113.5 kg (AD) were used to estimate their relationships with BD and BA at first parity in a four-trait threshold-linear analysis (TL). Effects were year-farm, contemporary group (CG: farm-farrowing year-farrowing month) and animal additive genetic. At first parity, estimates of heritability were 0.09, 0.09, 0.37, and 0.31 for BA, BD, AD, and BF, respectively. The estimate of genetic correlation between BD and litter size was -0.04 (BD-BA). Corresponding values with test traits were both -0.14 (BD-AD, BD-BF). Estimates of genetic correlation between BA and performance traits were 0.08 (BA-AD) and 0.05 (BA-BF). The two test traits were moderately negatively correlated (-0.22). For later parities, a six-trait (BD, BA in three parities) TL model was implemented. The estimates of additive genetic variances and heritability increased with parity for BD and BA. Estimates of heritabilities were: 0.09, 0.10, and 0.11 for BD, and 0.09, 0.12, and 0.12 for BA in parities one to three, respectively. Estimates of genetic correlations between different parities were high (0.91 to 0.96) for BD, and slightly lower (0.74 to 0.95) for BA. Genetic correlations between BD and BA were low and positive (0.02 to 0.17) for BA in Parities 1 and 2, but negative (-0.04 to -0.10) for BA in Parity 3. Selection for increased litter size should have little effect on farrowing piglet mortality. Intense selection for faster growth and increased leanness should increase farrowing piglet mortality of first-parity sows. A repeatability model with a simple correction for the heterogeneity of variances over parities could be implemented to select against farrowing mortality. The genetic components of perinatal piglet mortality are independent of the ones for litter size in the first parity, and they show an undesirable, but not strong, genetic association in second parity.  相似文献

With the development of the non‐surgical deep uterine (NsDU) embryo transfer (ET) technology, the commercial applicability of ET in pigs is now possible. There are, nevertheless, many factors that influence NsDU‐ET effectiveness that need to be addressed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the weaned recipients' parity on fertility and prolificacy following NsDU‐ET. The recipients (n = 120) were selected based on their reproductive history and body condition and grouped into three categories according to their parity: primiparous sows, sows of parity 2 and sows of parities from 3 to 5. Thirty fresh embryos (morulae and unhatched blastocysts) were non‐surgically transferred into one uterine horn of each recipient. It was possible to insert the NsDU‐ET catheter through the cervix along a uterine horn in 98.3% of the recipients. The parity had no influence on the difficulty grade of the insertions or on the percentage of correct insertions. The cervix and uterine wall were not perforated during the insertions, and vaginal discharge was not observed after transfer in any of the recipients. There were no differences in the pregnancy rates (74.8%), farrowing rates (71.2%) or litter sizes (9.6 ± 3.3) between groups. Also, there were no differences between groups regarding to the piglets' birthweights or piglet production efficiency. In conclusion, these results demonstrate that weaned sows from parity 1 to 5 are appropriate to be used as recipients in NsDU‐ET programs, which increase the possibilities for the utilization of ET in the recipient farms.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to analyze the incidence of different categories of stillborn piglets in relation to genetic merit for farrowing survival of sows and litters and to analyze relationships of total number of piglets born per litter, average BW of the litter, and within-litter variation in BW with genetic merit for farrowing survival of sows and litters. Records of 336 purebred litters, produced by 307 first-to eighth-parity sows, were collected on a nucleus farm in Brouennes, France. Breeding values for farrowing survival were estimated for sows (EBVfs_maternal) and litters (EBVfs_direct) using a large data set from which information obtained in the current study was excluded. For each litter, BW, number of stillborn piglets (classified as nonfresh stillborn, prepartum stillborn, intrapartum stillborn, and postpartum stillborn), and number of live-born piglets were recorded. Birth weights of stillborn piglets were lower than BW of live-born piglets (P < 0.0001), except for prepartum stillbirths. The total number of stillborn piglets per litter and the number of stillborn piglets in each category decreased with increasing EBVfs_maternal (P < 0.01). An increase in EBVfs_direct was also associated with a decrease in the total number of stillborn piglets per litter (P < 0.01). This decrease was due to a decrease in the number of nonfresh, prepartum, and postpartum stillborn piglets but not to a decrease in the number of intrapartum stillborn piglets. Probabilities of stillbirth in relation to EBVfs_maternal were higher than probabilities of stillbirth in relation to EBVfs_direct. Total number of piglets born decreased with increasing EBVfs_direct (P = 0.0003), but was not related to EBVfs_maternal. Average BW of the litter (P < 0.0001) and within-litter variation in BW (P = 0.05) decreased with increasing EBVfs_maternal but were not related to EBVfs_direct. Selection for the maternal genetic component of farrowing survival seems a better strategy than selection for the direct genetic component. Selection for the maternal genetic component of farrowing survival reduces stillbirth in all categories and does not affect litter size.  相似文献
