Abstract

Soil washing is one of the methods used to remediate soil contaminated with heavy metals, and when the contaminated elements have been effectively removed the washed soil can be used for agriculture. Soil washing was conducted using 0.5 mol L?1 CaCl2 solution at pH 4 as an extracting agent to remediate a paddy field soil contaminated with Cd. Dolomite powder was applied to neutralize the soil to the original pH 6.2. After CaCl2 washing, the content of Cd extractable in 0.1 mol L?1 HCl decreased from 2.4 to 0.8 mg kg?1. Subsequently, a pot experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of soil washing on Cd concentration in polished rice (Cdpr) for three successive years. Using the washed soil, Cdpr was ≤ 0.2 mg kg?1 with and without a treatment that simulates midseason drainage, whereas it was > 0.5 mg kg?1 in the unwashed soil with the midseason drainage treatment. The reasons for low Cdpr growth in the washed soil were the low content of exchangeable Cd in the soil and the resultant high soil pH (> 7). To evaluate the effect of soil pH on Cdpr in the fourth year, we adjusted soil pH to 5 with H2SO4 before transplanting rice seedlings. The Cdpr in the washed soil with the midseason drainage treatment increased to 0.47 mg kg?1, whereas it was less than 0.2 mg kg?1 under continuous flooding. Thus, high pH or whole season flooding are important to keep Cdpr at ≤ 0.2 mg kg?1 even after soil washing. With the application of dolomite and other ordinary fertilizers, soil properties were little affected by the present soil washing procedure because the difference in rice yield between the washed and unwashed plots was not significant within each year.  相似文献

The adsorption of heavy metals [cadmium (Cd 2+), cobalt (Co2+), nickel (Ni2+), zinc (Zn2+), and lead (Pb)] and calcium (Ca2+) on humic acid and silica were investigated to understand the adsorptive selectivities of heavy metals on the constituents of soil. The experiments for the adsorption of Cd and Pb were carried out in a 0.1 mol L?1 (M) sodium nitrate (NaNO3) background solution, whereas those for the other metals were done in a 0.1 M sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The adsorptive affinities of the metal ions on the humic acid and silica were ranked by the intrinsic surface complexation constants [K m 1(int)] that were calculated approximately from the adsorptive data using a constant capacitance model. The log [K m 1(int)] values of the metals were in the order Zn2+(?2.29) > Cd2+(?2.41) > Co2+(?2.74) > Ni2+(?2.92) ?> Ca2+ (?3.33) for the humic acid and Zn2+(?4.23) > Cd2+(?4.49) > Ni2+(?4.51) ? Co2+ (?5.99) > Ca2+(?6.37) for silica.  相似文献

The effects of exogenous calcium (Ca2+) on root growth and lignification-related parameters – phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and peroxidases (POD) activities, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and lignin contents – in roots of NaCl-stressed soybean seedlings were analyzed. Three-day-old seedlings were cultivated in half-strength Hoagland's solution (pH 6.0) with or without 5 mM calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3)2] and 50 to 200 mM sodium chloride (NaCl) in a growth chamber (25°C, 12/12 h light/dark photoperiod, irradiance of 280 μmol m?2 s?1) for 24 h. In general, results showed that the absence of Ca2+ reduced root growth and increased lignification of soybean seedlings grown in NaCl-free nutrient solution. NaCl reduced the root growth and all lignification-related parameters. Root growth, PAL and POD activities and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) contents were more affected after NaCl treatments without Ca2+ in the nutrient solution. At 5 mM, Ca2+ did not alleviate the deleterious effects of NaCl on lignification-related parameters.  相似文献

Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to assess the effects of pH and ionic strength (I) on cadmium (Cd) adsorption by two Brazilian Oxisols. Adsorption envelopes were constructed through soil sample reactions with 0.01, 0.1, and 1 mol L?1 calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3)2] solutions containing 5 mg L?1 of Cd, with an increasing pH value from 3 to 8. The adsorption increased drastically with increasing pH, varying from 20 to 90% in a narrow pH range (4–6 in topsoil and 5–6 in subsoil). Gibbs energy (ΔG) for Cd adsorption was negative, and the phenomenon became more thermodynamically spontaneous with an increase in pH. Under the standard 0.01 mol L?1 I and at pH close to natural, the ΔG values ranged from ?796 to ?3427 J mol?1. No effect of I was observed on the ΔG values for Cd adsorption at pH values less than 6. At values greater than pH 6, sharp changes in the Cd adsorption pattern were observed on subsoil samples. The only soil attribute significantly correlated with the spontaneity of Cd adsorption was the effective cation exchange capacity, ECEC (r = 0.97; p < 0.1).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Cadmium (Cd) in the soil solution is in dynamic equilibrium with the reservoir of bioavailable Cd attached to the solid phase, i.e. the labile pool (CdE). Traditionally, CdE is estimated using the radioisotope 109Cd, which has severely restricted access to estimates of CdE. Using stable isotope dilution and isotope ratio measurement by inductive coupled plasma-quadrupole mass spectroscopy (ICP-QMS) would increase access to estimates of CdE; however, detail remains scant about the optimal conditions for equilibration and measurement. We report optimal conditions for spiking with 110Cd, batch equilibration and ICP-QMS measurement of the ratio of 110Cd to 111Cd using results for six acidic soils with total Cd concentrations of 0.19–6.4 mg Cd kg?1, suspended in three background electrolytes (10 mM CaCl2, 1 M NH4NO3, and 1 M NH4Cl). Our optimised procedure produces robust estimates of CdE. Application of this approach will greatly increase access to estimates of CdE and to the investigation of its role in Cd uptake by plants.  相似文献

The inhibitory effect of seven different metals on the specific anammox activity of granular biomass, collected from a single stage partial nitritation/anammox reactor, was evaluated. The concentration of each metal that led to a 50% inhibition concentration (IC50) was 19.3 mg Cu+2/L, 26.9 mg Cr+2/L, 45.6 mg Pb+2/L, 59.1 mg Zn+2/L, 69.2 mg Ni+2/L, 174.6 mg Cd+2/L, and 175.8 mg Mn+2/L. In experiments performed with granules mechanically disintegrated (flocculent-like sludge), the IC50 for Cd+2 corresponded to a concentration of 93.1 mg Cd+2/L. These results indicate that the granular structure might act as a physical barrier to protect anammox bacteria from toxics. Furthermore, the presence of an external layer of ammonia oxidizing bacteria seems to mitigate the inhibitory effect of the metals, as the values of IC50 obtained in this study for anammox activity were higher than those previously reported for anammox granules. Additionally, the results obtained confirmed that copper is one of the most inhibitory metals for anammox activity and revealed that chromium, scarcely studied yet, has a similar potential inhibitory effect.  相似文献

Sorption characteristics of phenanthrene were studied in batch equilibrium experiments with 32 Australian soils that varied widely in physicochemical properties. Sorption of phenanthrene varied widely among the soils and was generally nonlinear, with the nonlinearity index (n) of the Freundlich isotherm varying from 0.62 to 1.01. Simple regression analyses revealed that total organic carbon (TOC) accounts for about 68 % of the variation in the partition coefficient (K f ) for sorption among the soils at an equilibrium concentration (C e ) of 0.05 mg/L. The organic carbon normalized distribution coefficient (K OC ), varied considerably between soils with >70 % of the variance of logK OC being accounted for by logTOC, clay and log dissolved organic carbon (DOC). These results show that the phenanthrene C e is influenced by both TOC as well as the DOC in soil suspensions. The effects of ionic strength (IS) and index cation were investigated using four contrasting soils. Results show that with an increase in IS from 0.03 to 0.15 M sorption of phenanthrene generally increased in CaCl2 background solutions, whereas the effect was less significant and variable in NaCl background solutions. Sorption of phenanthrene was slightly higher at low IS (0.03 M) with Na+ as index cation compared with that of Ca2+, whereas an opposite trend was observed at higher IS (0.15 M). For two soils high in TOC, the flocculation of endogenous DOC in the presence of Ca2+ reduced the influence of background electrolyte and resulted in a more linear sorption isotherm as well as higher sorption capacity. This trend was more significant with Ca2+ relative to Na+.  相似文献

With increasing graphene oxide (GO) applications in industry and biomedicine, effects of GO on microorganisms, animals, and human health have been frequently studied; however, direct and indirect effects of GO on plants are seldom concerned. In this study, effects of GO and/or Cd2+ on seed germination, seedling growth, and uptake to Cd2+ were investigated in solution culture. The results showed that GO could quickly adsorb Cd2+ in solution, and the higher the GO concentration was, the lower the residual Cd2+ concentration was in solution. Rice seed germination, seminal root length, and bud length decreased with increasing GO and Cd2+ concentrations respectively, while the presence of GO could alleviate the inhibitive effects of Cd2+ on seminal root and bud growth compared with the single Cd2+ treatment. In maize seedling, fresh weights of shoot and root showed similar responses to the presence of Cd2+ and/or GO. Compared with the single Cd2+ treatment, root Cd concentrations were generally increased by GO in high Cd2+ solution (20 mg/L), while were slightly affected by GO in low Cd2+ solution (5 mg/L) independent of GO concentrations except for 100 mg/L GO. Shoot Cd concentrations were decreased by low GO (100 mg/L) while were increased by high GO (>?500 mg/L) independent of Cd2+ concentrations in solution. Moreover, significant interactive effects of GO and Cd2+ on root and shoot Cd concentrations were observed. This study indicates that GO can change the effects of Cd2+ on seed germination, seedling growth, and uptake to Cd2+ in solution through its adsorption on Cd2+.  相似文献

In order to characterize the mechanism of Al tolerance (Atlas 66) and Al sensitivity (Scout 66) in two cultivars of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), the early responses to Al stress under acidic conditions were investigated. Marked inhibition of root elongation of Scout was observed upon treatment with 10 μM AlCl3 for less than 3 h. The inhibition of root elongation of Scout was reversed within 3 days when the treated samples were transferred to a solution without Al. However, treatment for 6 h with AlCl3 repressed root elongation almost completely and irreversibly. Root elongation of Atlas was only partially inhibited by the treatment with 10 μM AlCl3 for more than 6 h. Levels of Al in two portions of roots, namely, portions 0–5 mm and 5–10 mm from the tip, were lower in Atlas than those in Scout. In Atlas the levels of Al on a fresh weight basis in both portions were very similar, while the level of Al in the portion 0–5 mm from the tip was almost double than that in the 5–10 mm portion in Scout. A distinct increase in levels of Al in the 0–5 mm portion over that in the 5–10 mm portion of Scout was observed even after 3 h of treatment with AlCl3.

Both Atlas and Scout were preloaded with K+ at pH 5.5 and transferred to distilled water at various pH values to monitor the efflux of K+. A reduction in the pH induced increases in the efflux of K+ in both cultivars, and the rate of efflux in Scout was twice that in Atlas at pH 4.2. AlCl3 at concentrations as low as 5 μM markedly repressed K+efflux at pH 4.2 and this effect was more pronounced in Scout. Ca2+ also had a repressive effect on K+ efflux, while EGTA increased K+ efflux. Vanadate increased K+ efflux, a result that suggests the involvement of a H+ pump in K+ efflux. Ca2+ failed to repress the increased efflux of K+ caused by vanadate while Al repressed the K+ efflux even in the presence of vanadate. These results suggest that a low extracellular pH may cause an increase in the cytoplasmic concentration of H+ that is followed by depolarization of the plasma membrane, which may be modified by the efflux of K+ and H+. The characteristic difference in terms of K+ efflux between Atlas and Scout at low pH may be caused by differences associated with plasma membrane potentials, as follows. The net influx of H+ at low pH, which causes depolarization of the plasma membrane, is higher in Scout than in Atlas. The difference in the net influx of H+ may be regulated in part by Ca2+, that either repress the influx of H+ or the activate of the H+ pump. Inhibition of K+ efflux by Al, which tends to depolarize the plasma membrane at low pH, may be an important factor in determining sensitivity and/or tolerance to Al.  相似文献

The effectiveness of lime-ammonium-nitrate (LAN) as a nitrogen (N) fertilizer in weathered soils depends on the respective selectivity for ammonium (NH4) and calcium (Ca) by the soils. The study assessed Ca2+/NH4+ exchange selectivity of two benchmark soils from Botswana and examined the soil fertility management implications. Surface horizons (0–20 cm) of Pellustert and Haplustalf were equilibrated with 50 ml stock solution containing variable concentrations of Ca2+ and NH4+. The Ca2+/NH4+ exchange data were fitted into the Vanselow (KV), Gaines and Thomas (KGT), Davies (KD), and the regular solution (KRS) equations. The selectivity coefficients for the Ca2+/NH4+ exchange reactions varied widely with the soil exchanger composition except for the relatively stable KRS. The selectivity coefficients indicated strong preference for NH4+ to Ca2+. The thermodynamic exchange constant, Kex, was 5.75 ± 1.24 in the Pellustert, indicating preferential adsorption of NH4+, but not in the Haplustalf with Kex = 0.92 ± 0.27. The free energy for Ca2+/NH4+ exchange (ΔG°ex) was negative (?4.26 ± 0.59 kJ mol?1) in the Pellustert but slightly positive in the Haplustalf (0.34 ± 0.87 kJ mol?1). In conclusion, the soil-NH4 complex was more stable than soil-Ca complex in the Pellustert, indicating LAN as a N fertilizer would have greater potential effectiveness in the Pellustert than in the Haplustalf.  相似文献

Abstract

Hydroponic studies with soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) have shown that µmol L?1 additions of Mg2+ were as effective in ameliorating Al rhizotoxicity as additions of Ca2+in the mmol L?1 concentration range. The objectives of this study were to assess the ameliorative effects of Mg on soybean root growth in acidic subsoils and to relate the soil solution ionic compositions to soybean root growth. Roots of soybean cultivar Plant Introduction 416937 extending from a limed surface soil compartment grew for 28 days into a subsurface compartment containing acid subsoils from the Cecil (oxidic and kaolinitic), Creedmoor (montmorillonitic) and Norfolk (kaolinitic) series. The three Mg treatments consisted of native equilibrium soil solution concentrations in each soil (50 or 100 µmol L?1) and MgCl2 additions to achieve 150 and 300 µmol L?1 Mg (Mg150 and Mg300, respectively) in the soil solutions. Root elongations into Mg-treated subsoils were compared with a CaCO3 treatment limed to achieve a soil pH value of 6. Subsoil root growth responses to the Mg treatments were less than for the lime treatments. Root length relative to the limed treatments for all subsoils (RRL) was poorly related to the activity of the soil solution Al species (Al3+ and Al-hydroxyl species) and Mg2+. However, the RRL values were more closely related to the parameters associated with soil solution Ca activity, including (Ca2+), (Al3+)/(Ca2+) and (Al3+)/([Ca2+] + [Mg2+]), suggesting that Ca could be a primary factor ameliorating Al and H+ rhizotoxicity in these subsoils. Increased tolerance to Al rhizotoxicity of soybean by micromolar Mg additions to hydroponic solutions, inducing citrate secretion from roots to externally complex toxic Al, may be less important in acid subsoils with low native Ca levels.  相似文献

The mechanisms of low cadmium (Cd) accumulation in sweet potato cultivars are obscure. In this study, seedlings of a low-Cd (Nan88, N88) and a high-Cd cultivar (Xiang 16, X16) were grown in Hoagland’s solution containing Cd concentrations of 0 (control), 1 (Cd1), and 10 µM (Cd10) for 20 days. We analyzed the Cd accumulation, root morphology and low molecular weight organic acids (LMWOAs) excreted by the root tips (RTs). The total root length (RL) and specific root length (SRL) in X16 were greater than those in N88 following Cd treatments. In the Cd1 treatment, RL and surface area for root diameter was ≤0.2 mm, and RTs in X16 were also greater than those in N88. LMWOAs excreted from the RTs initially increased and then decreased as Cd concentration increased. The RTs of N88 were more efficient at excreting organic acids than were those of X16. The low-Cd cultivar with lower RL and SRL displayed greater ability to excrete organic acids in Cd treatments, which can decrease Cd translocation from roots to shoots. Furthermore, root morphology and some LMWOAs released from the root tips played an important role in the differing rates of Cd accumulation in the two sweet potato cultivars.  相似文献

Bioretention cells, also known as raingardens, are increasingly being constructed as a means to collect, infiltrate, and treat stormwater runoff. There are concerns, however, about how stormwater management practices might function in terms of infiltration and pollutant removal as they age. Saturated hydraulic conductivity (K sat) values were obtained for eight cells in 2006 and again for three of those cells in 2010 using an infiltrometer. A strong positive correlation of mean K sat with service time was observed (slope = 10.2?±?2.4 cm/h per year, R 2 = 0.67). Results from metals analyses of bioretention media cores collected from six bioretention cells showed the expected trend of Cu and Zn enrichment at the surface while Cd was detected only in one out of 72 media samples analyzed. Sorption isotherms from batch testing of field media samples (T = 22.5 °C, pH = 7.2) were used to estimate metal sorption capacities based on representative stormwater Cd and Zn concentrations. Cu was not considered, as very little of the metal is dissolved under these conditions (22.8?±?7.1 %). The mean equilibrium sorption capacities for Cd (10.2?±?3.1 mg/kg) and Zn (294.9?±?14.9 mg/kg) far exceeded observed levels in the bioretention media such that the remaining sorption capacity was ≥83 % for Zn and ≥90 % for Cd for the cells. Overall, the results of this investigation suggest that bioretention cells can provide many years of effective infiltration (>6 years) and metals removal performance (>25 years).  相似文献

A method for the measurement of Pb and Cd in equilibrium soil solutions involving soil equilibration with a dilute Ca electrolyte, centrifugation and filtration to <0.2 μm was evaluated. The procedure was subsequently used for the analysis of 100 Pb- and 30 Cd-contaminated soils. Solutions were analysed for Pb- and Cd using graphite-furnace AAS and the concentrations of Pb2+ and Cd2+ were estimated using standard speciation calculations. The concentrations of Pb and Cd found in the soil solutions were in the range 3.5–3600 μg dmp ?3 and 2.7–1278 μg dm ?3 respectively; both ranges represented less than 0.1% of the total metal concentration in the soils. Depending on solution pH, Pb +2 accounted for between 42–78% of Pb in solution while about 65% of Cd in solution was present as Cd+2. The concentrations of Pb2+ and Cd2+ in solution suggested that the soil solutions were undersaturated with respect to the solid phases PbC03 and CdC03 but supersaturated with respect to Pb5(P04)3Cl and, for some samples, Cd3(P04)2 respectively. However, for both metals, a good empirical relationship was obtained between the total metal concentration in soil (mol kg?1), free metal concentration in solution (mol dm?3) and solution pH. The relationships took the general form of a pH-dependent Freundlich adsorption equation: For both lead and cadmium relationships, the values ofn and K1 were close to unity, so that the distribution coefficient could be estimated from pH and a single metal-dependent constant, K2. The algorithms appeared to be valid over a metal concentration range of four logarithmic units and pH range of 3.5–7.5.  相似文献

The roles of verapamil (VRP), a calcium channel blocker, on cadmium-induced physiological stress in freshwater teleost Oncorhynchus mykiss were investigated in this study. Forty-eight juvenile rainbow trout were divided randomly into four groups, i.e., control group, VRP group (100 μg/L VRP), Cd group (50 μg/L Cd2+), and VRP?+?Cd group (100 μg/L VRP?+?50 μg/L Cd2+). After 1-week exposure, oxidative stress indices (lipid peroxidation and carbonyl protein) and antioxidant parameters (superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and reduced glutathione) were measured in gill and liver of all tested fish. Additionally, the behavioral changes were recorded during the experimental period. Compared with the control, cadmium-induced stress was apparent as reflected by a serious oxidative stress in gill and liver tissues, inhibited branchial antioxidant parameters, and induced hepatic antioxidant responses, as well as abnormal behaviors observed. In the VRP?+?Cd group, the antioxidant defense system of fish returned to the control level, and the fish behavioral abnormalism markedly decreased. The present results suggested that VRP could reduce the cadmium-induced physiological stress in rainbow trout and provided further evidence that Cd2+ uptake through Ca2+ transport pathways in freshwater teleost.  相似文献

Cadmium is both readily available and highly toxic to plants and animals. Our objectives were to evaluate the effect of oyster shell as a liming material on reducing plant cadmium (Cd) uptake and to compare oyster shell and Ca(OH)2, a common liming material in Korea. Ground oyster shell and Ca(OH)2 were applied at 0, 2, 4, and 8 Mg Ca per hectare to an upland soil contaminated manually with CdSO4 (total Cd 8.96 mg kg?1). Radish (Raphanus sativa L.) was sown on the contaminated soil. Oyster shell was less effective at increasing soil pH and net negative charge than Ca(OH)2, but more effective at suppressing radish Cd uptake in both roots and shoots. The portion of Cd that is strongly bound to soil (fraction 5) increased more with oyster shell than with Ca(OH)2. Radish plant Cd concentration was positively correlated with 0.1 N HCl-extractable Cd and negatively correlated with the residual Cd fraction (F5), indicating that an increase in the strongly bound Cd fraction played an important role in reducing radish Cd uptake in soil to which oyster shell was applied. The greater potential of oyster shell to decrease Cd extractability in soil and plant Cd uptake compared to Ca(OH)2 might be attributed to the layered morphology of oyster shells. Based on these results, oyster shell could be a very good alternative liming material to reduce Cd phytoavailability in Cd-contaminated soil.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of sorption to the removal of two commonly used antibiotics (amoxicillin and ciprofloxacin) from wastewater. These antibiotics are excreted in large quantities with more than 75% of them being unmetabolized and are therefore likely to end up in domestic wastewater in significant quantities. The specific objectives were to determine the sorption behavior in synthetic wastewater (SWW), the effect of pH and contribution of microbial surfaces, to the sorption of these antibiotics. The SWW, adjusted to various pH levels, was used and sorption kinetics conducted at 100 and 250 ??g L?1 concentrations. Adsorption isotherms were determined at different pH levels. The SWW (pH 6.6) was inoculated with Rhodococcus sp. B30 strain to determine the contribution of microbial surfaces to sorption. Generally, both antibiotics revealed a decrease in sorption with pH increase, suggesting that lowering the solution pH of the wastewater may reduce their amounts in wastewater solution. Comparatively, ciprofloxacin exhibited higher sorption than amoxicillin. The sorption distribution coefficient (K d) values for ciprofloxacin ranged from 0.4356 to 0.8902 L?g?1, with pH?=?5.5 exhibiting the highest K d, while that for amoxicillin ranged from 0.1582 to 0.3858 L?g?1 with the highest K d at pH?=?3.5. There was a significant difference (p?<?0.05) in K d values between various pH levels for both antibiotics except between the pH of 5.5 and 6.6. Both antibiotics were not degraded within 48 h by Rhodococcus sp. B30 strain. These results indicate that degradation may not be the major process of removal of compounds from wastewater treatment plants and hence the importance of sorption as an intervention technique.  相似文献

This study is aimed at assessing the ability of metal-resistant yeast, Candida tropicalis, to uptake cadmium from the liquid medium. The minimum inhibitory concentration of Cd2+ against C. tropicalis was 2,800 mg L?1. The yeast also showed tolerance towards Zn2+ (3,100 mg L?1), Ni2+ (3,000 mg L?1), Hg2+ (2,400 mg L?1), Cu2+ (2,300 mg L?1), Cr6+ (2,000 mg L?1), and Pb2+ (1,200 mg L?1). The yeast isolate showed typical growth curves, but low specific rate of growth was observed in the presence of cadmium. The yeast isolate showed optimum growth at 30°C and pH 7. The metal processing ability of the isolate was determined in a medium containing 100 mg L?1 of Cd2+. C. tropicalis could decline Cd2+ 57%, 69%, and 80% from the medium after 48, 96, and 144 h, respectively. C. tropicalis was also able to remove Cd2+ 56% and 73% from the wastewater after 6 and 12 days, respectively. Cd produced an increase in glutathione (GSH) and non-protein thiol levels by 146.15% and 59.67% at 100 mg L?1 concentration, respectively. Metal tolerance and accumulation together with changes in the GSH status and non-protein thiols under Cd exposure were studied in C. tropicalis.  相似文献

Bush bean and pea plants grown in a sandy substrate and treated daily with nutrient solutions containing either 50 and 125 pM cadmium (Cd), added as cadmium nitrate [Cd(NO3)2], were analyzed for dry matter production, total Cd content, and extractable Cd. Cadmium depressed dry matter production of both plant species. Bush bean plants accumulated larger amounts of Cd in tissues and displayed lower Cd tolerance than pea plants. The high accumulation of Cd in roots of bush bean does not seem to prevent Cd translocation. Pea plants show a higher exclusion capacity at the root level, suggesting that membrane selectivity rather than apoplastic compartmentation may act as a defence mechanism against Cd toxicity. Gel‐permeation chromatography and voltammetric analyses showed that part of water‐soluble Cd extracted from tissues of pea and bush bean was as free metal ion (Cd2+). In addition, Cd into the nutrient solution induced progressively the synthesis of water‐soluble proteins at low molecular weigth in tissues of both plant specie. In root extracts of pea and bush bean, Cd was also associated with “like‐protein”; fraction with apparent molecular weight >30 KDa.  相似文献

Cadmium distribution coefficients, K d were determined at low Cd concentrations (solute: 0.2 to 3.0 μg Cd dm?3, soil: 0.044 to 1.1 mg Cd kg?1) for 63 Danish agricultural soils. The K d values ranged from 15 to 2450 L kg?1. About 40% of the soils had K d values below 200 L kg?1. The observed K d values correlated very well with soil pH (r 2 = 0.72). Introducing soil organic matter content as a second parameter improved the correlation some (r 2 = 0.79). No further improvements were obtained by introducing traditional soil parameters as clay, silt, fine sand, coarse sand and CEC or ‘reactive’ parameters as oxyhydroxides of Mn, Fe and Al. The identified regression equation for predicting K d values indicates that K d approximately doubles for each 0.5 unit increase in pH or 2% increase (weight basis) in organic matter content.  相似文献
