ABSTRACT:   In large-scale rearing of juveniles of the Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, a certain morphological abnormality occurred spontaneously in 4% of the fish. These fish showed a slight but clearly different appearance from any developmental stage of this species, and did not settle when all the other juveniles in the same tank completed metamorphosis and had settled. From comparisons of external and internal structures between the normal and the abnormal fish, the abnormality was attributed to unbalanced progress of metamorphosis, mainly due to metamorphic stasis. The thyroid of the abnormal fish was apparently activated morphologically. In addition, serum thyroxine (T4) concentrations in the abnormal fish were reduced to less than 1/10 of that of normal fish. After 14 days of T4 treatment (0.1 p.p.m) of the abnormal fish, all the abnormal characteristics disappeared, and the fish recovered to normal, suggesting normal responsiveness to thyroid hormones in peripheral tissues, whereas thiourea treatment (30 p.p.m., 14 days) further delayed metamorphosis. These results suggest that these abnormal fish were suffering from thyroid hormone deficiency, and were unable to secrete a sufficient amount of thyroid hormone to complete metamorphosis.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the ontogenetic development of the digestive tract and its accessory structures (liver, pancreas, and gall bladder) in agastric larval Chinese sucker Myxocyprinus asiaticus with the histological and ultrastructural approaches from hatching to 56 days after hatching (DAH). On the basis of its feeding mode, and analyzing the main histological features of the digestive system, larval development in Chinese sucker was divided into three stages from hatching: stage 1 (endotrophic period): 1–6 DAH; stage 2 (endoexotrophic period): 7–14 DAH; stage 3 (exclusively exotrophic period): from 15 DAH onward. At hatching, the digestive tract of the larvae consisted of an undifferentiated straight tube. At 4 DAH, the mouth opened, and the digestive tract was differentiated into buccopharyngeal cavity, esophagus and intestine. At 7 DAH, fish started to feed exogenously. Yolk sac was completely exhausted at 15 DAH. Until 56 DAH, the digestive tract of the larvae displayed regularly arranged microvilli, abundant vacuoles, and protein inclusion bodies. The pancreas, liver, and gall bladder were functional from 6 DAH, which enabled larvae to ingest, digest, and assimilate the first exogenous food. In comparison with teleosts that have a stomach, the development of the digestive tract of the agastric Chinese sucker seemed relatively slow .  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to provide explanations of how dietary phospholipid (PL) globally improves fish larval development, including growth and survival, digestive functions and skeletal development, and to propose optimal PL levels and sources in fish larval diets. Dietary incorporation of 8–12% PL related to dry matter (d.m.) promotes growth and enhanced survival in various species. Marine source PL, incorporating highly unsaturated fatty acids, was most efficient than soybean lecithin. This beneficial effect was explained by an enhancement in digestive functions, assessed by digestive enzyme activities and histomorphology. Nevertheless, 1.5–2.5% highly unsaturated fatty acids related to diet d.m. supplied by PL improved growth, survival and skeletal development, while 5% induced different skeletal deformities. The high incidence of deformities was associated with the down-regulation of genes involved in development, such as RXRα, RARα, RARβ and BMP-4, observed in the early stages in larvae fed a high highly unsaturated fatty acids level.  相似文献

Abstract. Samples of Buccinum undatum (L.), a marine carnivorous prosobranch, from the Loch Ewe area of the West Coast of Scotland were found to be infected with the larval stages of Stephanochasmus baccatus Nicoll, 1907. The digestive glands of infected and uninfected molluscs were examined histologically and the pathogenesis of the larval stages in the digestive gland are described. Two types of lesion were found to occur. In Type I lesions degenerative changes were confined to individual tubules and neighbouring tubules remained unaffected. The Type I lesion was the typical response to the presence of the parasite in the digestive gland. The Type II lesion was less common and was associated with very heavy infections in the early part of the molluscan cycle of infection. In these molluscs large areas of the digestive gland were destroyed, and there was a marked cellular infiltrate of putatively inflammatory cells.  相似文献

鱼类早期发育阶段是其生活史中的关键时期之一,生理、形态学变化剧烈,死亡率极高。研究鱼类早期发育阶段的生长规律及其生理特性,可为了解鱼类早期阶段的致死因子提供理论依据,有助于提高苗种阶段的生长率和成活率,也对制定合理的早期培育策略具有重要的指导意义。异速生长模式对确定仔鱼的养殖模式有重要的指示作用,鱼类在早期阶段会优先发育与生命活动关系较密切的器官,以期达到较高的早期成活率。RNA/DNA是评价鱼类早期发育阶段生长率的有效指标,也可用于评价仔稚鱼的生长潜力、营养状况、饲料营养水平以及确定关键期。研究仔稚鱼消化酶的发生和演变有助于深入了解鱼类在个体发育早期的消化生理,有助于选择适口饵料和制定投喂策略。因此,本文综述了鱼类早期发育阶段的异速生长模式、核酸及蛋白含量变化规律以及消化酶的发生和变化,为鱼类早期阶段健康养殖的发展提供依据。  相似文献

The larval mesopelagic fish assemblage and its distribution patterns were investigated in the Kuroshio region off southern Japan in late winter. A total of 8690 fish larvae was collected, 85.8% of which were mesopelagic fish larvae. Mesopelagic fish larvae were significantly more abundant in the area east of the Kuroshio axis than west of the Kuroshio axis (660.6 versus 194.5 ind 10 m?2). Sigmops gracile, Bathylagus ochotensis, Notoscopelus japonicus, Diaphus slender type and Myctophum asperum were the five most abundant larvae and accounted for 16.9, 16.4, 15.2, 13.9 and 9.3% of the total catch in numbers, respectively. We conclude that these larvae were transported by the Kuroshio Current to the more productive transition waters, where they spend their juvenile stage from spring to early summer. The possibility of expatriation and southward long‐distance spawning migrations of N. japonicus and B. ochotensis are discussed, based on the geographic distribution patterns of their larvae, juveniles and adults.  相似文献

SUMMARY: Pituitary, thyroid gland and gonads in leptocephali of Japanese eel Anguilla japonica (19.8–32.6 mm in total length), A. obscura (45.0 mm), and A. bicolor pacifica (49.5 mm) and those in glass eels of the Japanese eel were histologically and immunohistochemically examined in order to observe the developmental changes of these endocrine organs in the Anguillidae. The pituitary, consisting of adenohypophysis and neurohypophysis in Japanese eel leptocephali over 22.5 mm, did not contain thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) immunoreactive cells. Such cells were, however, detectable in the more developed pituitaries of leptocephali of A. obscura and A. bicolor pacifica and in those of glass eels. Conversely, thyroxine (T4)-immunoreactive thyroid follicles could be detected in all specimens, both leptocephalic and glass eel. Only in glass eels, gonads were found in the body cavity, and these gonads harbored one or two primordial germ cells (PGC) per cross-section. Our results indicate that thyroid hormones (TH) production started prior to TSH production, and that TSH and TH are both secreted during the metamorphosis from leptocephalus to glass eel. Therefore, it is plausible that the TSH–TH axis is involved in the metamorphosis from leptocephalus to glass eel, but not in the early growth from preleptocephalus to leptocephalus.  相似文献

Mycobacteriosis in fish is a chronic progressive ubiquitous disease caused by Mycobacterium marinum, M. gordonae and M. fortuitum in most cases. The aim of this study was to describe the morphology and distribution of lesions in 322 freshwater ornamental fish across 36 species. Granulomatous inflammation was diagnosed by gross examination and histopathology testing in 188 fish (58.4%); acid‐fast rods (AFR) were determined in only 96 (51.1%) fish from 19 species after Ziehl–Neelsen staining. The most often affected organs with AFR were the kidney (81.2%), digestive tract (54.1%), liver (48.2%), spleen (45.9%) and skin (21.2%); sporadically, AFR were found in the branchiae (9.4%) and gonads (4.7%). In 14 randomly selected fish originating from four different fish tanks, the distribution of mycobacterial infection was studied by culture examination of the skin, gills, muscle tissue, digestive tract, liver, spleen and kidney. In 12 fish, the species M. marinum, M. gordonae, M. fortuitum, M. triviale, and M. avium subsp. hominissuis (serotypes 6 and 8 and genotype IS901? and IS1245+) were detected; mixed infection caused by different mycobacterial species was documented in five of them.  相似文献

Due to the importance of dietary lipid utilization for larval rearing success, increasing attention has been paid during the last years to different aspects of larval lipid nutrition such as digestion, absorption, transport and metabolism, which are frequently studied by different research groups. The present study reviews the published information on these aspects, including some recent results obtained in our laboratory, that contribute to a better understanding of larval lipid nutrition.Neutral lipase activity was found in the digesta of larval gilthead seabream as early as first feeding, followed by a significant increase which reached up 8 times the initial levels at day 15 and was clearly influenced by the fatty acid composition of dietary lipids. Accordingly, the capacity for lipid absorption by the intestinal epithelium has been also observed at the onset of exogenous feeding, although the specific location in the different digestive tract segments differ with species. Whereas the capacity to absorb lipid increases with development in live prey-fed larvae, this improvemment is delayed in larvae fed formulated diet. Increasing dietary phosphatidyl cholines levels enhanced lipid absorption regardless of whether it is of soybean or marine origin, but the latter improved hepatic lipid utilization. Enzymatic, histological and biochemical evidences suggest that marine fish larvae are able to effectively digest and absorb n-3 HUFA-rich triacylglycerols, but feeding with phosphoacylglycerols, particularly if they are rich in n-3 HUFA, would enhance phosphoacylglycerols digestion and specially lipid transport alowing a better n-3 HUFA incorporation into larval membrane lipids and promoting fish growth. Although the essentiality of n-3 HUFA for larval marine fish has been studied extensively, only recently has the importance of dietary arachidonic acid in the larvae of few species been recognised. Evidences for competitive interactions among these essential fatty acids suggest that besides a minimum dietary requirement for each essential fatty acid, their relative ratios must also be considered.  相似文献

The histological development of the digestive tract in hatchery-reared green sturgeon (Acipenser medirostris) larvae and the effects of food deprivation on the digestive system organization were studied from hatching until 31 days post-hatching (dph). At hatching, the larval digestive system consisted of two rudiments: a large endodermal yolk sac and a primordial hind-gut. During the endogenous feeding phase, the wall of the yolk sac differentiated into the stomach (glandular and non-glandular regions) and the anterior and intermediate intestine, while the hind-gut primordium differentiated into the spiral valve and rectum. At the onset of exogenous feeding (15 dph at 16 °C), the organization and cytoarchitecture of the digestive system in green sturgeon larvae was generally similar to those of juveniles and adults. Larvae deprived of food exhibited a progressive deterioration, with subtle pathological changes observed after 5-d starvation: shrinkage of digestive epithelia, tissue degeneration, and necrosis were observed at 10–15 d of starvation (30 dph). No changes were observed in the mucous secretion of different regions of the digestive tract of food-deprived larvae. The histological analysis of the larval digestive system may be used to evaluate the nutritional condition of larval green sturgeon in their nursery habitats in spawning rivers, which are affected by dams and flow diversions.  相似文献

Digestion of food depends on three main factors: (i) the ingested food and the extent to which the food is susceptible to the effects of digestive enzymes, (ii) the activity of the digestive enzymes and (iii) the length of time the food is exposed to the action of the digestive enzymes. Each of these factors is affected by a multitude of secondary factors. The present review highlights the experimental results on the secondary factor, enzymatic activity and possible contribution of the fish gut microbiota in nutrition. It has been suggested that fish gut microbiota might have positive effects to the digestive processes of fish, and these studies have isolated and identified the enzyme‐producing microbiota. In addition to Bacillus genera, Enterobacteriaceae and Acinetobacter, Aeromonas, Flavobacterium, Photobacterium, Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Microbacterium, Micrococcus, Staphylococcus, unidentified anaerobes and yeast are also suggested to be possible contributors. However, in contrast to endothermic animals, it is difficult to conclude the exact contribution of the gastrointestinal microbiota because of the complexity and variable ecology of the digestive tract of different fish species, the presence of stomach and pyloric caeca and the relative intestinal length. The present review will critically evaluate the results to establish whether or not intestinal microbiota do contribute to fish nutrition.  相似文献

应用AB-PAS染色法对工厂化养殖条件下豹纹鳃棘鲈(Plectropomus leopardus)消化道粘液细胞的类型与分布进行了观察研究。结果显示:豹纹鳃棘鲈粘液细胞在消化道各部位均有分布,不同部位的粘液细胞密度和类型均有差异,豹纹鳃棘鲈消化道粘液细胞可分为Ⅰ型、Ⅱ型、Ⅲ型、Ⅳ型。其中,食道粘液细胞以Ⅲ型为主,胃以Ⅰ型为主,幽门盲囊和肠以Ⅲ型为主,直肠以Ⅲ型和Ⅳ型为主;胃部粘液细胞分布密度最大,达(111.37±21.74)cell·mm~(-2),极显著高于消化道其它部分,直肠、幽门盲囊、肠的粘液细胞分布密度分别为(35.09±8.74)、(30.23±5.37)、(28.00±4.67)cell·mm~(-2),相互之间差异不显著,食道的粘液细胞分布密度最低,为(10.83±1.94)cell·mm~(-2),与消化道其它部分相比差异极显著。另外,消化道各段单位面积内粘液细胞的分泌能力顺序为食道直肠肠幽门盲囊胃。通过对消化道各部位粘液细胞的分类对比可以发现,粘液细胞的类型和分布与其所在部位的功能有密切关系。  相似文献

Histomorphological changes in digestive tract of golden mahseer (Tor putitora) were examined in larvae [starting from hatching to 45 days post-hatching (dph)], fry, fingerling, and adult. Digestive tract appeared during hatching, on the dorsal side of yolk sac, as a straight tube with a narrow lumen. Mouth opening and appearance of liver and pancreas were observed at 2 dph, and subsequently anal opening, appearance of goblet cells in esophagus, and posterior intestine were evident at 3 dph. The remodeling of oral cavity in terms of epithelial stratification, appearance of taste buds, and goblet cells were observed in a window of 4–5 dph. Intestinal folding was found to be initiated at 8 dph. From 12 to 45 dph, thickening of oral and esophageal mucosal/extramucosal layers, increase in intestinal folding, increases in the density of goblet cells in entire gut were observed. Within the same time window, other histological changes such as disappearance of vacuoles in liver, and abundance of zymogen granules in pancreas were also observed. Supranuclear vesicles in mid-to-posterior intestine were found to be prominent from first feeding to 45 dph; however, this phenomenon was no longer evident in fry and fingerling. Overall, the increase in intestinal folding and complexity of extramucosal layer were found to be continuous from the first appearance to adult, and this inferred the fact that the nutritional physiology, in terms of digestion and assimilation, progressively changes throughout the life stages of golden mahseer. Findings of this study will, therefore, help in preparing diets for different life stages of this fish, and in addition, the present information widens the understanding of digestive physiology of golden mahseer.  相似文献

利用形态学和连续组织切片技术,对出膜后1-60d的斜带石斑鱼各期仔鱼、稚鱼和幼鱼的消化系统进行了光镜观察,描述了其消化器官发育过程和组织学特性。研究表明,实验水温为22.0-27.8℃时,孵化后第4天,上下颌形成,卵黄囊被吸收,消化系统明显分化成食道、胃、肠、直肠以及肝脏、胆囊和胰脏等,鱼体由内源性营养转向外源性摄食营养,表明其消化系统的形态变化与食性的变化相适应。此后随着鱼体的生长,其消化系统从功能和结构上逐步完善成熟。胰脏在出膜后第4天出现,是和肝脏相互分开的一个独立的器官,但是发育到第35-60天,位于肠道后部的胰脏组织内出现许多大空泡。  相似文献

Abstract. Eleven wild-caught dolphin fish ( Coryphaena hippurus L.) from Florida waters and 16 of the same species from an experimental mariculture facility were examined for evidence of parasitic disease. Thirteen (48–1%) were found to be infected with parasites of the digestive tract. Adults of the digenean trematode Dinurus rornatus were present in the stomach and intestine. Invasive metacercarial stages of the same species were found encysted in the somatic musculature, pericardium and stomach wall. Metacercaria were associated with mild inflammatory cell infiltration of the musculature and gastric submucosa and, in one case, focal degeneration of the muscle fibres. In addition, invasive plerocercoidsof an unidentified cestode species occurred in the stomach and intestine of a moribund juvenile fish; the associated lesions included degeneration and ulceration of the gastric and intestinal mucosa, with haemorrhage and granuloma formation in submucosal tissues. These findings indicate that parasitic infection of the digestive tract can be a significant cause of disease in dolphin fish in Florida waters.  相似文献

The Bransfield Strait and adjacent waters represent one of the most important areas of larval retention off the Antarctic Peninsula. The species composition of larval fish assemblages has been described in detail in previous surveys carried out in the area, but the role of environmental parameters influencing the spatial distribution of early life stages was poorly known. By applying generalized additive models and multivariate analyses, we evaluated the role of environmental variables in shaping the small‐scale distribution of larval fish and investigated the spatial structure of the larval assemblage. It consisted of a few dominant notothenioid species, such as Champsocephalus gunnari, Lepidonotothen squamifrons, Lepidonotothen larseni, Pleuragramma antarctica and Trematomus scotti, and several other rarely caught species. Sea water temperature, salinity and sampling depth were the most important factors determining the spatial distribution of fish with different relative contributions, together explaining more than 80% of total deviance observed. Species richness was mostly affected by salinity, probably due to the narrow range of salinity preference by the species. Cluster analysis of abundance and presence data identified six and five distinct groups, respectively, each of them with substantial contributions of single or rarely two species. Differences in reproductive strategies of adult populations and spatial distribution of early life stages driven by different larval behaviour in response to environmental factors contribute to maintaining a well‐structured larval fish assemblage, ensuring spatial and food niche partitioning.  相似文献

Ontogenetic development of the digestive system in golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus, Linnaeus 1758) larvae was histologically and enzymatically studied from hatch to 32 day post-hatch (DPH). The development of digestive system in golden pompano can be divided into three phases: phase I starting from hatching and ending at the onset of exogenous feeding; phase II starting from first feeding (3 DPH) and finishing at the formation of gastric glands; and phase III starting from the appearance of gastric glands on 15 DPH and continuing onward. The specific activities of trypsin, amylase, and lipase increased sharply from the onset of first feeding to 5–7 DPH, followed by irregular fluctuations. Toward the end of this study, the specific activities of trypsin and amylase showed a declining trend, while the lipase activity remained at similar levels as it was at 5 DPH. The specific activity of pepsin was first detected on 15 DPH and increased with fish age. The dynamics of digestive enzymes corresponded to the structural development of the digestive system. The enzyme activities tend to be stable after the formation of the gastric glands in fish stomach on 15 DPH. The composition of digestive enzymes in larval pompano indicates that fish are able to digest protein, lipid and carbohydrate at early developmental stages. Weaning of larval pompano is recommended from 15 DPH onward. Results of the present study lead to a better understanding of the ontogeny of golden pompano during the larval stage and provide a guide to feeding and weaning of this economically important fish in hatcheries.  相似文献
