Phenoxyethanol is routinely used in seabream aquaculture to minimise fish stress response despite the secondary negative effects which have been observed. In this study, two different doses (60 and 200 microl/l) of phenoxyethanol, sedative and narcotic, were tested for their ability to reduce the stress caused in gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) by crowding. Blood glucose and serum cortisol concentrations were measured as stress indicators. In order to study the effects of the treatment on the innate immune system of crowded specimens, two parameters of the innate immune response, serum complement activity and phagocytosis, were assessed. The results show that anaesthesia itself produced a stress response in the fish and affected the immune system, although the effects were greater with the narcotic dose. When the effects of anaesthesia on crowded fish were analysed, the results pointed to a slight reduction in stress as a result of the sedative dose of phenoxyethanol (lower increase in cortisol and lower reduction in phagocytosis). However, additive negative effects were seen in crowded fish when the narcotic dose of phenoxyethanol was used. Since the use of phenoxyethanol is a common practice in aquaculture, the significance of the results should be considered.  相似文献

The effect of the oral administration of high dosages of vitamins C and E on the innate immune system of the seabream was investigated. Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) were fed four different diets for 45 days: a commercial diet as control, a 3g/kg vitamin C-supplemented diet, a 1.2g/kg vitamin E-supplemented diet or a diet containing both vitamin supplements. After 15, 30 and 45 days, serum ascorbic acid and alpha-tocopherol levels, growth, complement titers and head-kidney leucocyte phagocytic and respiratory burst activities were evaluated. The results showed that serum vitamin levels reflected dietary input. Fish fed the vitamin C-supplemented diet showed an enhanced respiratory burst activity, while fish fed the vitamin E-supplemented diet exhibited increased complement and phagocytic activities. All of these positive effects were found in fish fed the joint diet, as well as a synergistically enhanced respiratory burst activity at day 30. The results demonstrate that in vivo vitamins C and E exert a synergistic effect enhancing the respiratory burst activity of seabream phagocytes.  相似文献

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: An increased susceptibility to bacterial and viral infections of the respiratory tract, which results in a loss of performance, has been reported in racehorses. Much research has focused on the influence of high-intensity exercise of a short duration on immune system function in horses, but scant attention has been given to prolonged endurance exercise as an immune modulator. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of an 80 km endurance race on the monocyte and neutrophil oxidative burst, serum cortisol, glutamine and plasma glucose concentrations in 8 endurance-trained horses (mean +/- s.d. age 9.4 +/- 2.2 years). METHODS: Blood samples were drawn from the horses prior to and following an 80 km ride. RESULTS: Mean time for completion of the 80 km race was 306 +/- 40 mins. Immediately post race mean serum cortisol concentration, blood monocyte and neutrophil counts were higher and blood lymphocyte counts and plasma glucose concentration were lower compared with prerace values (P < 0.05). Neutrophil and monocyte oxidative burst activity decreased following the race and had not regained prerace values after 3 days of rest (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The present study indicates that long duration exercise in horses has a negative impact on the function of the innate immune system that lasts several days post race. Precise mechanisms instigating the fall in innate immune system function are unclear and multifactorial, but may be attributed, at least in part, to a high serum cortisol response during very prolonged exercise. POTENTIAL CLINICAL RELEVANCE: A prolonged bout of exercise results in a long-term suppression of the innate immune system function in horses which may, in part, account for the observed increase of infectious episodes in horses during training.  相似文献

The study was designed to contribute to identification of the stimulus to adrenocortical activity during halothane anaesthesia in equidae . Two groups of six ponies were premedicated with acepromazine before induction of anaesthesia with thiopentone and maintenance for 120 min with halothane in oxygen. In group H Haemaccel® modified gelatine plasma replacer was infused (48 ± 13 mL/kg) to maintain mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) close to preanaesthetic values. In group DH, blood pressure was maintained close to preanaesthetic levels with a lower dose of Haemaccel® (10 mL/kg) combined with an infusion of dobutamine. Measurements were made before anaesthesia, at 20 min intervals during anaesthesia and 20 and 120 min after anaesthesia. MABP and blood gases, pulse and respiratory rates were measured, and blood was withdrawn for assay of cortisol, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), glucose and lactate. Ponies in both groups became hyperoxic, hypercapnic and developed a respiratory acidosis; pulse rate increased in both groups but this was more marked in group H. Haematocrit decreased by 50% in H and by 20% in DH. Cortisol and ACTH did not change significantly during anaesthesia in either group and the area under the time curve ( AUC (0–140)) was lower in the DH group. Plasma glucose and lactate remained stable. After the H treatment all ponies had a watery nasal discharge and one pony died from endotoxaemia. This investigation demonstrated that the adrenocortical response to halothane anaesthesia in ponies can be ameliorated by manipulation of ABP using plasma expansion with or without inotrope infusion; however, low dose Haemaccel® with dobutamine was safer and more practical. It is suggested that, although hypotension is not the sole stimulus to adrenocortical activity during halothane anaesthesia, it may contribute, probably through an effect on tissue perfusion.  相似文献

Studies in infants and foals indicate an age-dependent maturation of peripheral lymphocyte subsets. The age-dependent relationship for maturation of cellular immune responses, such as phagocytosis and lymphocyte responses of the peripheral and pulmonary-derived leukocytes, has not been characterized in foals. Lymphocyte subpopulations, mitogen stimulation response of lymphocytes, lymphokine-activated killing cell activity, phagocytosis and oxidative burst activity, and serum immunoglobulin (Ig) classes G and M concentrations were determined in developing foals. This study illustrates age-dependent changes in immunoglobulin class concentrations, lymphocyte subsets, and EqMHC Class II expression in cells of the peripheral blood and lungs of developing neonatal-to-weanling foals. The increase in peripheral blood and BAL B-lymphocytes and serum immunoglobulins in developing foals suggests expansion of immune cell populations during a time in which environmental pathogen exposure is great. General immune function, mitogenic responses, LAK cell activity, opsonized phagocytosis, and oxidative burst activity of newborns was similar to the adult horse. Total immune-cell numbers, rather than function, seemed to be the limiting factor in the development of the equine neonatal immune system. There was an age-related percent increase in the appearance of pulmonary lymphocytes, but a percent decrease in macrophages. Although development of the respiratory immune system follows changes in the peripheral blood, cellular expansion, activation, and migration may occur at a slower pace, making the respiratory environment susceptible to pathogens prior to optimal immune system maturity.  相似文献

The study aimed to investigate the stimulus to adrenocortical activity that is induced by halothane anaesthesia. Groups of 7 sheep were anaesthetised with thiopentone and halothane (TH) or acepromazine, thiopentone and halothane (ATH). During 120 min of anaesthesia hypotension was prevented (mean arterial blood pressure kept at pre-anaesthetic level) by infusion of a modified gelatine plasma replacer given to effect (0.34–1.1 litres with TH and 1.1–3.1 litres with ATH). Pulse rate, arterial blood pressure and gases were measured and sequential samples withdrawn for analysis of plasma cortisol, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), arginine vasopressin (AVP), glucose and lactate. Heart rate increased in the ATH but not the TH group. All sheep were well oxygenated but developed hypercapnia and respiratory acidosis. In both groups, cortisol increased more than 2-fold 20 min after the end of anaesthesia but there were no significant changes in ACTH. AVP was measured in the TH group only and increased 3-fold at the end of anaesthesia. Glucose and lactate remained stable except for lactate in the TH group which decreased during anaesthesia. These data indicate that hypotension is a major component of the stimulus inducing adrenocortical activity during halothane anaesthesia. However, maintenance of normotension did not entirely depress the response; halothane itself or decreased perfusion may also contribute.  相似文献

Benzodiazepines (BDZ) are among the most frequently used class of psychotropic drugs employed in veterinary medicine in Brazil and worldwide due to their anxiolytic, muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant effects [J. Clin. Pharmacol. 33 (1993) 124]. Peripheral benzodiazepine receptor (PBR) sites were described in peripheral organs, endocrine steroidogenic tissues and immune organs and cells. Midazolam is a mixed-type agonist of PBRs. The present study is focused on the effects of midazolam on equine peripheral blood neutrophils, peritoneal macrophages and cortisol levels in plasma. Adult horses were treated with a single dose of midazolam (0.06 or 0.1 mg/kg) or with 0.9% NaCl. Immune cells were collected 24 h after treatment for flow cytometry analysis of Staphylococcus aureus-induced phagocytosis and oxidative burst. Plasma cortisol concentration was measured 30, 90, 180 and 360 min after midazolam treatment. Midazolam induced a dose-dependent reduction on: (1) peripheral blood neutrophil and peritoneal macrophage oxidative burst; (2) the capacity of both peripheral blood neutrophils and peritoneal macrophages to phagocyte S. aureus. Increments on plasma cortisol concentration were not found after 0.06 and 0.1 mg/kg of midazolam. The effects on oxidative burst of neutrophils and macrophages from horses treated with midazolam were interpreted as a consequence of an impairment of S. aureus-induced phagocytosis. The present data suggest that midazolam, most probably acting on PBRs present on equine macrophage and neutrophil membranes, might have changed some mechanisms related to both phagocytosis and oxidative burst. These results support the use of flow cytometry to identify functional properties and dysfunction of equine immune cells. They also confirm the notion that changes in the functional capacity of the immune system may represent an important hazard of exposure to drugs or chemicals.  相似文献

Some metabolic and endocrine responses to anaesthesia in sheep were studied. Adult sheep were anaesthetised with thiopentone and halothane (n=9), acepromazine, thiopentone and halothane (n=8) and pentobarbitone (n=10) on separate occasions. Routine cardiovascular monitoring was carried out and blood samples were taken for assay of cortisol, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), arginine vasopressin (AVP), glucose and lactate. Halothane anaesthesia induced hypotension, hypercapnia and respiratory acidosis. Sheep anaesthetised with pentobarbitone were also hypercapnic and acidotic but did not develop hypotension. Plasma cortisol, ACTH and AVP (mean maximum values: cortisol: 83 ng/ml, ACTH 278 ng/ml, AVP 135 pg/ml), increased during halothane anaesthesia but did not change significantly from control values during pentobarbitone anaesthesia (mean maximum values: cortisol: 30 ng/ml, ACTH 71 ng/ml, AVP 7.8 pg/ml). Glucose tended to increase during both halothane and pentobarbitone anaesthesia but lactate decreased. It is not clear what facet of halothane anaesthesia evokes the stress response but it may be associated with cardiovascular depression.  相似文献

Endocrine and metabolic responses to anaesthesia with three different anaesthetic regimes were examined in six ponies. All animals were anaesthetised with each protocol: acepromazine-thiopentone-isoflurane, xylazine-ketamine- halothane and xylazine-ketamine-isoflurane. Anaesthesia was maintained for 2 h. Pulse rate, respiratory rate, arterial blood pressure, arterial blood gases and pharyngeal and skin temperature were measured and blood was withdrawn for glucose, lactate, cortisol, insulin, liver and muscle enzymes and total protein assay. Measurements were made before anaesthesia, at 20 min intervals during anaesthesia and at 20 mins and 2, 4, 6 and 24 h after anaesthesia. The effects of anaesthesia were similar in all groups. Arterial blood pressure decreased and oxygen tension and plasma cortisol concentration increased in all groups. Arterial carbon dioxide tension increased and respiratory rate and pH decreased in all ponies anaesthetised with isoflurane. There was a tendency for increased glucose and lactate concentrations and decreased insulin concentration and packed cell volume, particularly in the xylazine-ketamine groups. There was no change in pulse rate except for a transient increase at induction with thiopentone. The results were compared with data reported by Taylor (1989), which were collected from the same animals during acepromazine-thiopentone-halothane anaesthesia, and were found to be similar. It was concluded that these commonly used anaesthetic protocols themselves constitute a considerable insult or stressor in horses. However, the stress response to all the regimes investigated was similar and the precise stimulus to this response has yet to be elucidated.  相似文献

The study investigated whether hypotension in halothane-anaesthetised ponies is the stimulus inducing an endocrine stress response by assessing the effect of maintenance of normotension with a dobutamine infusion. Groups of six ponies were studied. After premedication with acepromazine (0.04 mg/kg) anaesthesia was induced with thiopentone (10 mg/kg) and maintained for 120 min with halothane (group AN). Dobutamine was infused to effect (1.1–4.4 μg/kg/min) to maintain arterial pressure at pre anaesthetic levels. The conscious group (CON) were prepared as for AN and then received only dobutamine infusion 1.0 μg/kg/min for 120 min. Arterial blood pressure, pH, oxygen and carbon dioxide tension, pulse rate, haematocrit, and plasma cortisol, glucose and lactate concentrations were measured before, at 20 min intervals during anaesthesia, and 20 and 120 min after anaesthesia ceased. Blood pressure remained close to control in both groups. The AN group became hypercapnic and acidotic, pulse rate and haematocrit increased, cortisol increased more than twofold and plasma glucose and lactate did not change. All values remained at control in the CON group except for small increases in haematocrit and decreases in pulse rate. Maintenance of normotension during halothane anaesthesia did not blunt the adrenocortical response to anaesthesia nor did the same dose of dobutamine alone increase plasma cortisol. Hypotension appears not to be the sole stimulus to equine adrenocortical activity during halothane anaesthesia.  相似文献

Blood polymorphonuclear leucocyte (PMN) oxidative burst activity, plasma cortisol levels, and the total and differential white blood cells counts (WBC) of six cycled dairy cows were evaluated for a period of 24 days, three times a week; on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The PMN oxidative burst was indirectly evaluated by flow cytometry, measuring the intracellular oxidation of 2′,7′‐dichlorofluorescein diacetate to 2′,7′ dichlorofluorescein (DCF) by H2O2‐production. Results are pre‐sented as the mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of DCF. Cow’s oestrous cycle was evaluated by following the plasma progesterone levels using a radioimmunoassay method. Levels of cortisol in the plasma were measured using a fluorimetric method. The oxidative burst activity of PMN, represented a maximum value (MFI = 117.6 ± 7.4) during the oestrous period. A fall was then observed, in which a steady state was observed during the lutheinic phase of the oestrous cycle, reaching the minimum value [MFI = 73.2 ± 11.2 (p ≤ 0.01)] on the days +8, +9 and +10. No significant variations were observed in the levels of cortisol, or in total and differential WBC, during the whole period. Nevertheless, as far as cortisol levels were concerned, a trend analogous to that of the oxidative burst activity was observed. Our results demonstrated that the oestrous cycle might influence directly, or indirectly, the immune system of cows, by altering the oxidative burst of PMN.  相似文献

Six Welsh gelding ponies were premedicated with 0.03 mg/kg of acepromazine intravenously (i.v.) prior to induction of anaesthesia with midazolam at 0.2 mg/kg and ketamine at 2 mg/kg i.v.. Anaesthesia was maintained for 2 h using 1.2 % halothane concentration in oxygen. Heart rate, electrocardiograph (ECG), arterial blood pressure, respiratory rate, blood gases, temperature, haematocrit, plasma arginine vasopressin (AVP), dynorphin, ß-endorphin, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), cortisol, dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline, glucose and lactate concentrations were measured before and after premedication, immediately after induction, every 20 min during anaesthesia, and at 20 and 120 min after disconnection. Induction was rapid, excitement-free and good muscle relaxation was observed. There were no changes in heart and respiratory rates. Decrease in temperature, hyperoxia and respiratory acidosis developed during anaes-thesia and slight hypotension was observed (minimum value 76 ± 10 mm Hg at 40 mins). No changes were observed in dynorphin, ß-endorphin, ACTH, catecholamines and glucose. Plasma cortisol concentration increased from 220 ± 17 basal to 354 ± 22 nmol/L at 120 min during anaesthesia; plasma AVP concentration increased from 3 ± 1 basal to 346 ± 64 pmol/L at 100 min during anaesthesia and plasma lactate concentration increased from 1.22 ± 0.08 basal to 1.76 ± 0.13 mmol/L at 80 min during anaesthesia. Recovery was rapid and uneventful with ponies taking 46 ± 6 min to stand. When midazolam/ketamine was compared with thiopentone or detomidine/ketamine for induction before halothane anaesthesia using an otherwise similar protocol in the same ponies, it caused slightly more respiratory depression, but less hypotension. Additionally, midazolam reduced the hormonal stress response commonly observed during halothane anaesthesia and appears to have a good potential for use in horses.  相似文献

The effect of general anaesthesia and arthroscopic surgery on blood glucose and lactate, plasma non-esterified fatty acids, insulin, beta-endorphin and cortisol was investigated in seven horses. Animals were premedicated with xylazine and anaesthesia was induced with guaifenesin and sodium thiamylal and maintained with halothane vaporised in oxygen. Blood samples were collected in the pre-, intra- and post operative period. Induction of anaesthesia was associated with a transient hyperglycaemia and a significant rise in plasma insulin levels. Plasma insulin values fell during surgery but showed a significant increase post operatively. Surgery stimulated a small but significant rise in plasma beta-endorphin and cortisol values but these had returned to baseline values in the early post operative period. No changes in blood lactate were recorded.  相似文献

The uterine and umbilical vessels of 12 pregnant ponies were catheterised to study foetal metabolism. The effects of this procedure on maternal and foetal cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic and adrenocortical activity were monitored during and after surgery. Premedication with acepromazine-butorphanol-detomidine was followed by induction of anaesthesia with detomidine and ketamine and maintenance, using mechanical ventilation, with halothane in oxygen and nitrous oxide. Mean maternal arterial blood pressure was greater than 70 mmHg during anaesthesia and arterial oxygen tension remained over 100 mmHg. The foetuses were adequately oxygenated but were hypercapnic and lactic acidaemic. Most maternal and foetal blood gases and metabolites had returned to normal by 24 h, although foetal plasma lactate fell more slowly. The maternal adrenocortical discharge was less severe than reported previously and plasma cortisol had fallen to basal levels by 48 h after surgery. Foetal plasma cortisol remained low and did not change during or after surgery. Arterio-venous metabolite and gas tension differences across the uterine and umbilical circulations were slightly greater at operation than in the recovery period, suggesting that uteroplacental perfusion may have been impaired during surgery. Post-operative recovery of the mare and foetus was satisfactory and subsequent problems associated with the foetal catheters were not related to the anaesthesia or surgery.  相似文献

The blood serum levels of glucose, hemoglobin, insulin, cortisol, albumin, alpha-fetoprotein, alpha 2-macroglobulin f and s, alpha 2-antitrypsin inhibitor and alpha 1-protease inhibitor were determined at birth in 5 clinically and morphologically identified mortality groups of pigs. These were compared with the levels observed in unaffected, apparently normal newborn unsuckled pigs. The blood serum profile of the pigs in the stillborn intra partum, weak, splayleg and trauma groups, respectively, as well as that of clinically normal splayleg littermates, differed significantly from that of the unaffected pigs. This was especially true for the levels of hemoglobin and the two macroglobulins. The importance of placental insufficiency causing chronic episodes of hypoxia which ultimately lead to a disturbance in organ development in the etiology of the mortality groups is discussed.  相似文献

The stress axis in teleost fish attempts to maintain internal homeostasis in the face of allostatic loading. However, stress axis induction has been associated with a higher predation rate in fish. To date, the physiological and behavioral factors associated with this outcome are poorly understood. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of experimental cortisol elevation on anti‐predator behavior and physiological responses to predator presence. We hypothesized that semi‐chronic cortisol elevation would increase susceptibility to predation by increasing stress‐induced risk‐taking behaviors. To test this hypothesis, schoolmaster snapper were given cocoa butter implants without cortisol (sham) or with cortisol (50 mg/kg body weight) and tethered to cover. Fish were exposed to either a lemon shark or control conditions for 15‐min. Space use and activity were recorded throughout and fish were terminally sampled for blood. Cortisol implantation, relative to shams, resulted in higher blood glucose and plasma cortisol concentrations with a lower plasma lactate concentration. Shark exposure, relative to controls, elicited higher blood glucose and lactate concentrations but had no effect on plasma cortisol concentration. No interactions were detected between shark exposure and cortisol treatment for any physiological trait. Behavioral metrics, including shelter use and activity, were unaffected by either cortisol implantation or shark exposure. Physiological responses to cortisol implantation likely resulted from enhanced gluconeogenic activity, whereas alterations under predator exposure may have been the product of catecholamine mobilization. Further work should address context‐specific influences of stress in mediating behavioral responses to predation.  相似文献

Background

An elevated plasma glucose concentration has been considered to be a potential risk factor in the pathogenesis of left-displaced abomasums (DA). Therefore the present study was performed to investigate if spontaneous disease (parturient paresis, metritis, ketosis etc) in dairy cows results in elevated concentrations of glucose and cortisol in blood as cortisol is the major regulator of glucose in ruminants.

Methods

Cortisol, insulin, β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA), non esterified fatty acids (NEFA), and serum calcium were analyzed in blood serum and glucose, in whole blood, from 57 spontaneously diseased cows collected at different farms. The cows were grouped according to the disease; parturient paresis, recumbent for other reasons, mastitis, metritis, ketosis, inappetance and others.

Results

No elevated concentrations of cortisol or glucose were found in cows with metritis and mastitis but both cortisol and glucose were elevated in cows stressed by recumbency. Cows with ketonemia (BHBA > 1.5 mmol/l) did not have low concentration of glucose in blood but significantly low levels of cortisol. Some of these cows even had cortisol concentrations below the detection limit of the analysing method (< 14 nmol/l).

Conclusions

The study gives patho-physiological support to the treatment strategies of ketosis, recommending glucocorticoids, insulin etc. However further studies of this problem are needed to understand why cows with ketosis have low levels of cortisol and normal levels of glucose. To what extent elevated cortisol and glucose levels in hypocalcemic and recumbent cows are involved in the ethiology and /or the pathogenesis of DA also will need further research.  相似文献

Six Welsh gelding ponies (weight 246 ± 6 kg) were premedicated with 0.03 mg/kg of acepromazine intravenously (i.v.) followed by 0.02 mg/kg of detomidine i.v. Anaesthesia was induced with 2 mg/kg of ketamine i.v. Ponies were intubated and lay in left lateral recumbency. On one occasion anaesthesia was maintained for 2 h using 1.2% halothane in oxygen. The same group of ponies were anaesthetized 1 month later using the same induction regime and anaesthesia was maintained with a combination of detomidine, ketamine and guaiphenesin, while the ponies breathed oxygen-enriched air. Electrocardiogram, heart rate, mean arterial blood pressure, cardiac output, respiratory rate, blood gases, temperature, haematocrit, glucose, lactate and cortisol were measured and cardiac index and systemic vascular resistance were calculated in both groups. Beta-endorphin, met-enkephalin, dynorphin, arginine vasopressin (AVP), adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and catecholamines were measured in the halothane anaesthesia group only and 11-deoxycortisol during total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) only. Cardiorespiratory depression was more marked during halothane anaesthesia. Hyperglycaemia developed in both groups. Lactate and AVP increased during halothane anaesthesia. Cortisol increased during halothane and decreased during TIVA. There were no changes in the other hormones during anaesthesia. Recovery was smooth in both groups. TIVA produced better cardiorespiratory performance and suppressed the endocrine stress response observed during halothane anaesthesia.  相似文献

Olive flounder, Paralichythys olivaceus fed with pomegranate enriched diet and challenged with or without Philasterides dicentrarchi had a significantly higher white blood cell (WBC) count on weeks 2 and 4 than the infected group fed with non enriched diet (standard diet). Similarly the red blood cell (RBC) counts did not significantly change in control and treated fish on weeks 1 and 2. It was significantly increased in treated fish on week 2 when compared to the control. In both the groups the hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Ht) levels significantly increased on weeks 2 and 4. The mean corpuscular volume (MCV) did not significantly change at any time in both groups whereas mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) increased significantly on week 4 in the treated group. The leukocytes such as lymphocytes (Lym), monocytes (Mon), neutrophils (Neu), and biochemical parameters such as total protein (TP), glucose (GLU), and calcium (CAL) levels significantly increased in treated groups on week 2 or 4 as compared to the control. The scuticocidal activity and respiratory burst activity were significantly enhanced in treated groups with or without parasite on weeks 2-4. However, the serum lysozyme activity was significantly enhanced from weeks 1 to 4. The protective response in terms of cumulative mortality was low in groups fed with enriched diet against parasite when compared to control. Therefore, we suggest that pomegranate enriched diet following challenge with P. dicentrarchi restores the altered hematological and biochemical parameters, and improves the innate immune system in olive flounder against P. dicentrarchi.  相似文献

Objective To compare the magnitude and duration of the peri‐operative haematological, endocrine and metabolic effects of surgery performed under sevoflurane anaesthesia. Study Design Prospective randomized study. Animals Ten, 55‐day‐old lambs of both sexes, mean weight 20.8 ± 0.3 kg (range 18.5–23.6 kg). Methods Animals were randomly allocated to two equal groups. All were anaesthetized with sevoflurane for 3 hours. Surgery (end‐to‐end anastomosis of the right carotid artery and right jugular vein) was performed in animals of Group 1 only. The electrocardiogram, pulse oximetry, cardiac output and noninvasive arterial blood pressure (NIBP) were monitored. Venous blood samples (5 mL) were taken 30 minutes before induction of anaesthesia (T = 0) and 1 (T1), 24 (T2), 48 hours (T3) and 7 days (T4) after anaesthesia in order to measure plasma cortisol, ACTH, insulin, cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), glucose, protein concentrations and haematological variables. Results Sevoflurane decreased NIBP (minimum mean value: 64 ± 3 mm Hg) in both groups. Plasma cortisol and ACTH concentration increased in Group 1 (maximum mean values: cortisol: 136.2 nmol L?1, ACTH: 54.5 pmol L?1) and Group 2 (maximum mean values: cortisol: 128.7 nmol L?1, ACTH: 44.0 pmol L?1). Cyclic AMP increased only in Group 1 (9.3 nmol) 1 hour after anaesthesia. Neutrophilia, lymphopaenia and a decreased PCV were observed in both groups 1 hour after anaesthesia. Plasma protein and glucose concentrations did not change. Conclusions Increased ACTH and cortisol concentrations recorded 1 hour after anaesthesia suggest that sevoflurane induces a stress response in lambs. Clinical relevance The study did not identify the mechanism by which sevoflurane induces a stress response although hypotension is implicated.  相似文献
