Bison, a new red potato, was introduced by North Dakota State University. This new red variety has smooth tuber type and bright red skin color. Bison yields somewhat less than Norland and Red Pontiac but the advantage of Bison over these two varieties is its uniformity and bright red color. Bison is about medium in total solids and makes chips comparable in color to Norchip but lighter in color than Kennebec. Bison is resistant to race 0 of the late blight organismPhytophthora infestans, but susceptible to race 1–4.  相似文献

Tobique is a chipping variety with good yield and table quality. It is resistant to Verticillium wilt,Fusarium sambucinum, Fusarium coeruleum, and virus Y. Tobique was originated at Fredericton, New Brunswick and is a product of the potato breeding program of Agriculture Canada. This variety has been under test in New Brunswick for fifteen years as seedling F61025. It has also been tested extensively in the Maritime Provinces and throughout Canada through the facilities of regional and national evaluation trials. Tobique was selected from a cross between the variety Cariboo and Fredericton seedling F45019. Cariboo was introduced in British Columbia as a maincrop variety of distinctive appearance and bruise resistance; also with resistance toVerticillium alboatrum andPhoma rot. The greatest variety of tuberiferousSolanums of the Western Hemisphere is found in the Peruvian Andes, where, in spite of extensive explorations, new material is still found, such as the species which is here presented under the name ofSolanum irosinum. This is a diploid species; that is, it has 2n = 2x = 24 chromosomes and belongs to the Conicibaccata series. It could be used as a new source of breeding because it offers great resistance to attacks byPhytophthora infestans, the most serious disease of potato crops in the world.  相似文献

Two varieties of ‘Vicia faba L.’equina andminor, were studied. Theequina variety had a higher polyphenolic content than theminor variety. Both varieties significantly inhibited rat growth rate and ‘in vivo’ intestinal glucose transport, theequina variety being a more powerful inhibitor than theminor variety. Castile is a golden nematode Race A (Globodera rostochiensis) resistant potato variety with the potential to produce high marketable yields of attractive tubers suitable for tablestock and processing. Tubers are oblong to long, slightly flattened with a smooth white skin and moderately shallow eyes. Vines of this variety are large, providing a dense canopy, and require a full growing season similar to that needed for Katahdin. Timely irrigation produces high marketable yields, stress conditions can limit yields. Specific gravity in New York State averages 0.005 above Katahdin and 0.009 below Atlantic. Tuber flesh is bright white. Baking and french fry quality is good. Chip color, when tubers are stored at 10 C for 120 days, is equivalent to Atlantic. Castile is resistant to corky ring spot, pinkeye, and moderately resistant to Fusarium rot.  相似文献

Nipigon is a high-yielding, early sizing, table potato with good boiling and baking quality and is specifically adapted to northern Ontario. It has some resistance to late blight, rhizoctonia and viruses X and Y. The Nipigon potato was bred and initially selected within the Potato Breeding Project at the Fredericton Rcsearch Station of Agriculture Canada. This variety has been under test as seedling F61051 since 1965 throughout eastern Canada, but mostly in Ontario. Nipigon was selected from the progeny of a cross between two Fredericton seedlings; F53026 an early, scab-resistant seedling with very good tuber type and F51043, which has good processing quality and resistance to the common races of late blight,Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary. High performance ethylene propylene diene methylene elastomer (EPDM)/calcium carbonate (CaCO3)/aluminum triacrylate (ALTA) hybrids have been prepared by a melt compounding process. The mechanical properties of the peroxide cured EPDM/CaCO3/ALTA vulcanizates were investigated by tensile, hardness, resilience, abrasion and fatigue life tests. The results showed that the ALTA can greatly improve the modulus at 100 %, tensile strength, abrasion resistance and fatigue life of the EPDM/CaCO3/ALTA vulcanizates, while retaining their high elongation at break. ALTA as a reactive filler had accelerating effect on the vulcanization reaction of and increased the crosslink density of the EPDM/CaCO3 composites. This phenomenon is due to increasing the ionic bonds arise from both homo-polymerization of ALTA and graft co-polymerization of it onto the EPDM. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the presence of ALTA causes to the roughness of the fracture surface of CaCO3-filled EPDM compounds demonstrating high interaction between the fillers and EPDM improved by introduction of ALTA. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed that the glass transition temperature (T g ) and dissipation peak (tan δ) of EPDM composites decreases with increasing ALTA content. Decrease in tan δ value and inward shifting of T g were related to improved interaction of filler and EPDM.  相似文献

Daniel-Navan is a new potato cultivar suitable for the spring crop (between February and July) in the Negev region of Israel, and having a high yielding potential with excellent tuber appearance. The cultivar is resistant to heat stress, Verticillium wilt (V. dahliae) and early blight (Alternaria solani). Tubers of Daniel-Navan are oval, white-skinned, with creamy-white flesh, free of deformities, and growth cracks. It has a high dry matter content (22.7%) and boils and bakes well. The marketable yield of Daniel-Navan obtained at maturity consistently surpasses that of Desiree, the control. Daniel-Navan is a main crop cultivar bred and selected by the Horticultural and Plant Breeding Station, Northern Ireland, and the Agricultural Research Organization, Gilat Experiment Station, Israel. Owing to its high yielding performance and tuber quality, this cultivar could be suitable for use in regions with a hot climate.  相似文献

Potato virus S (PVS) was consistently detected by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the latex agglutination test (LAT) at dilutions (PVS sap: healthy sap) of 1:499 and 1:19, respectively. Mechanical inoculation ofNicotiana debneyi gave variable results with detection possible 38% of the time at dilutions of 1:499. Potato virus X (PVX) was consistently detected by ELISA and LAT at dilutions (PVX sap: healthy sap) of 1:199 and 1:49, respectively. Feeding trials were performed in which we tested for specific teratogenicity certain freeze-dried preparations from Russet Burbank potatoes. The preparations were experimentally infected under conditions designed to ensure vigorous infection withPhytophthora infestans or infected similarly with the early blight organismAlternaria solani. Some preparations were cut and aged under conditions that enhanced the alkaloid level. Some preparations were untreated. PVX infected plantlets from two potato cultivars grownin vitro with 0.3, 3, 30 or 300 ppm kinetin were exposed to temperatures of 28 or 35 C. After 3 wk, axillary buds were isolated and grown aseptically in organogenic media, followed by PVX testing by ELISA. The serological test was also run on whole plantlets at the end of the kinetin-temperature exposure. No donor plants exposed to 28 C nor the plantlets derived from their buds gave an ELISA (-) reaction, regardless of the kinetin content of the media or that of the cultivar. At 35 C the virus was suppressed to undetectable levels in several whole plantlets. In the cultivar Alpha, 2 out of 6 resulting plantlets after isolation of buds were virus-free in the presence of 3.0 mg/1 kinetin during the treatments. From Atzimba, about 15–40% of the regenerated plants were ELISA (-), without any relationship to the cytokinin content in the media. Heat had a stronger influence on virus elimination than kinetin and the results varied with the cultivar.  相似文献

An Andean origin of Phytophthora infestans was originally based on written records, and recently inferred from mitochondrial and nuclear gene genealogies, which emphasize a common South American origin of the European isolates, and absence of the I-b haplotype in Mexico (recently identified in Tlaxcala, Mexico). In order to compare such results, we sequenced the nuclear genes β-tubulin, Ras, and Intron Ras, and rDNA ITS regions in 24 P. infestans genotypes isolated, identified, and selected, during three crop growing cycles in Chapingo, Mexico. The pathogen showed homology and 100 % sequence similarities to the ones reported for the Andes and Europe β-tubulin, Ras, and Intron Ras genes. Results for the ITS region were inconclusive. The molecular oomycete similarities from the three geographical regions (South America, Europe, and Mexico), and the Mexican genotypes characteristics reported in the species supports the hypothesis of the location of P. infestans diversity and a center of dispersal in the central highlands of Mexico.  相似文献

Tuber net necrosis, caused by leafroll virus, was found to occur as a result of primary, secondary, and tertiary infection in six clones of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). Differences were observed between clones in their reaction to the different types of infection. In most clones there was a higher percentage of net necrosis from primary than from secondary or tertiary infection. No significant difference was observed in the severity of the net necrotic symptoms due to the different types of infection.  相似文献

A decoction containing ‘Golden Bantam’ sweet corn is a suitable medium fqr prolonged maintance of the late blight organismPhytophthora infestons. Sioux is a uniform round, red, slightly scaly russet variety of medium maturity. The variety is resistant to scab (Streptomyces scabies) and susceptible to Fusarium, Verticillium and late blight. In Nebraska, Sioux produces moderate to high yields, but higher yields of U.S. #1 potatoes when compared with the standard red table varieties Norland and Bounty. The specific gravity of Sioux is higher than that of the standard red table and white chipping varieties Haig, Platte and Kennebec. The variety is suitable for chipping and the production of frozen products. When grown as a late summer crop, Sioux is of good color and carries to market in better condition than the standard red varieties. In the 12 States in the North Central Regional Trials, Sioux was equal to the standard variety Red Pontiac in total yield and superior in yield of U.S. #1 potatoes. The specific gravity of Sioux was higher than that of Irish Cobbler or any of the other standard varieties. The yield of Sioux was as high and the specific gravity was higher than any of the standard varieties in Texas and Alabama trials.  相似文献

Collembola and mites from the lesions of tubers infected with the acid scab organism were tested for the presence of fungal potato pathogens.Streptomyces spp. were found on and in the bodies of these arthropods.Verticillium albo-atrum was present on the external surface and in the body of the Collembola. Enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine side-chains in proteins could produce reactive o-quinones that might subsequently react with the primary amino groups of functional compounds, which provided a worthwhile reference for functionalization of fibrion materials. In the present work the potential for using tyrosinase to graft the bovine lactoferrin onto Bombyx mori silk fibroin was examined. Lactoferrin could adsorb onto silk fibers and covalently bind to the previous enzymatically oxidized fibroin surface. The enzyme-generated quinones in silk fibers also might cause self-crosslinking of fibroin peptides, which led to beneficial changes of silk properties. For the fabric treated with tyrosinase and lactoferrin slight improvements of dyeability and strength were obtained in comparison to the control. The combinedly treated fabric showed encouraging resistance to S. aureus and E. coli, the antibacterial activities reached to 87.0 % and 76.4 %, respectively. The durability of the antibacterial silk was noticeably higher than that of the sample treated with lactoferrin alone.  相似文献
