Ornithobacteriosis is an infectious disease of avian species that has been reported in almost all countries around the world, except Thailand. The objectives of this study were to determine the seroprevalence of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT) and to isolate and identify ORT in broilers and broiler breeders in Thailand. Chicken antibodies had been randomly checked from 17 farms (19 flocks) of broilers and 23 farms (28 flocks) of broiler breeders. The seropositive flocks were 63% and 100% in broilers and broiler breeders, respectively. The sera analysis showed that the individual 280 broiler sera antibody responses were 67.5% negative, 12.9% suspect, and 19.6% positive. The individual antibody responses of 510 broiler breeder sera revealed 12.2% negative, 38.0% suspect, and 49.8% positive samples. The bacteria were isolated and identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Bacterial isolation and identification revealed that nine isolates of the 12 PCR analysis samples showed positive results to PCR analysis. All the positive PCR samples were collected from the broiler breeder farms.  相似文献

During a field study in 2010 the daily growth, feed conversion, first-week mortality, broiler loss due to mortality and slaughterhouse condemnation, and production index were monitored in 100 broiler flocks derived from four breeder farms vaccinated with Nobilis OR inac and four Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale-unvaccinated breeder farms of the same organization in Belgium. Other parameters related to the broiler flocks, such as flock size, season, age of the breeders, and corresponding breeder farms, were also noted. All gathered data were examined with ANOVA, linear correlation, and linear regression analyses. Results demonstrated a significant 22.3% lower broiler loss and a significant 3.9% higher production index in the broiler flocks derived from breeders vaccinated with Nobilis OR inac. These results confirm field observations obtained in 1999, thereby providing further evidence for an effect of O. rhinotracheale vaccination in breeders with regard to the improved performance of broilers.  相似文献

In this study, the presence of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale infection in the avian population in the Marmara and the Western Black Sea region was investigated. Trachea samples were randomly obtained from 96 chickens sent to slaughterhouses. The seroprevalance of the infection was determined in 384 blood sera. Ninety-six of these 384 samples belonged to animals from which trachea samples were obtained. Eleven (11.46%) O. rhinotracheale were isolated in 96 trachea samples taken from 10 different flocks brought to the slaughterhouse. Serotype A was the predominant serotype among the 11 isolates of O. rhinotracheale. One isolate could not be serotyped. O. rhinotracheale antibodies were detected in 251 (64.4%) of the 384 sera, while 55 (14.3%) and 78 (20.3%) were suspected and negative, respectively.  相似文献

Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale is a gram negative bacterial pathogen causing respiratory tract infections in poultry. Tracheal, lung and serum samples were obtained from 21 broiler flocks of 8 farms from a slaughterhouse located in south-eastern of Iran. Among 630 tracheal and lung samples from samples resulting from 315 chickens, 11 (3.5%) ORT isolates were identified using biochemical tests. The isolates originated from 9 (42.9%) flocks out of 4 farms. All of the isolates were recovered from tracheal swabs and showed an API 20NE identification biocode 0-2-2-0-0-0-4. Of the 420 serum samples examined by ELISA, 134 (31.9%) sera from 17 (81.0%) flocks were positive for ORT antibodies. These results indicate that ORT is present in most broiler flocks with respiratory disorders in southeast Iran.  相似文献

Swollen Head Syndrome (SHS) affects both broiler and broiler breeders and has become a problem in many countries. Clinical signs similar to those described in SHS conditions have been observed in northern Germany with the disease observed mostly in chicken broilers between 4 and 5 weeks of age and in broiler breeders between 24 and 36 weeks of age. The mortality rate in broilers has been variable from negligible to 5%. In broiler breeders, the symptoms were accompanied with a drop in egg production reaching 2-3% after 1 to 2 weeks. 422 Serum samples from 21 broiler flocks were examined for the presence of antibodies to TRT-virus using indirect ELISA tests. Antibodies were detected in 2 flocks which suffered from SHS, but not in 2 flocks showing respiratory manifestations nor in 17 apparently healthy flocks. The results obtained from testing 178 serum samples from 10 breeder flocks revealed that antibodies to TRT-virus were present in one flock with SHS signs as well as in 6 apparently healthy flocks. In addition, no antibodies were found in sera collected from 3 flocks--one with SHS and respiratory disease history; one recovered from respiratory infection and one without disease history. Examination of paired serum samples from 3 breeder flocks that suffered from typical SHS-signs collected at the onset of the disease and during the convalescent stage, as well as sera from one broiler and one breeder flocks that showed respiratory manifestations, showed that there are significant increases in the number of positive sera in the flocks with SHS symptoms. The other flocks remained free from TRT antibodies.  相似文献

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) titers were determined for serum samples from eight commercial broiler breeder flocks and their progeny. The chickens sampled had been vaccinated and reared by different producers in different regions of the United States. Breeder flocks had the highest number of NDV-positive HI titers (greater than or equal to 1:10). Eighty percent or more of the samples from six of eight breeder flocks were positive; the geometric mean titers (GMTs) for those six breeder flocks ranged from 19 to 92. Only 3 of 8 broiler flocks had an increased frequency of positive titers and higher GMTs after vaccination. The frequency of positive titers was greater than 80% in only 2 of 8 of the oldest broiler flocks. The number of NDV-negative titers (less than 1:10) increased with age in most broiler flocks, even though all had been vaccinated once or more with live NDV vaccines.  相似文献

Since a new envelope subgroup (J) of the avian leukosis-sarcomatosis-complex was isolated for the first time from broiler breeders in the United Kingdom in 1989 and was characterized and associated with myeloid leukosis (syn. myelocytomatosis) the emergence of this subgroup was reported from all over the world. Thus the first known case of subgroup J avian leukosis in Switzerland in four imported broiler breeder flocks will be described. A total of 53 broiler breeder birds from four flocks showing reduced performance and increased mortality were submitted for postmortem examination. Approximately 20 blood samples from each flock were monitored serologically for antibodies against avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J). On necropsy myeloid leukosis (ML) was diagnosed in all four flocks. Furthermore the blood samples of three flocks showed significant ELISA-titres for ALV-J.  相似文献

This study was the first to examine the seroprevalence of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT) within a commercial egg layer population. Serum samples collected from egg production companies were examined by serum plate agglutination test (SPAT) and outer membrane protein-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results show that 90% of layer flocks were positive by SPAT and 100% by ELISA. Of the pullet flocks examined, 43% and 52% were positive by SPAT and ELISA, respectively. Our study indicates that the prevalence of ORT antibody is high in the commercial layer population, suggesting that this respiratory pathogen can easily spread through multiple-age layer farms from older flocks to newly housed pullet flocks.  相似文献

In this investigation, we determined the prevalence of the Ornithobacerium rhinotracheale (ORT) infection in broilers and broiler breeders in southern Brazil. We also correlated the presence of antibodies in broilers with performance. Sera from 1550 broilers from 50 flocks were collected during the slaughter time in nine companies with federal veterinary inspection of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Sera from 480 meat-type breeders of 40 flocks from 14 companies in southern Brazil were also analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the prevalence of antibodies was determined. The prevalence of ORT antibodies in broiler flocks was 63.83%, but in each individual flock only 6.52% of the birds were positive. The prevalence in broiler breeder flocks was 100.00%, and in each individual flock 94.62% of the birds were positive. There was a positive correlation between the presence of antibodies to ORT and decreased body weight in broilers. There was no significant correlation between presence of antibodies to ORT and age, lineage, efficiency index, feed conversion, and mortality. There was a positive correlation between the presence of respiratory signs and antibodies to ORT, although the reverse correlation was not significant. These results confirm that ORT is present and widespread in broilers and broiler breeders in southern Brazil.  相似文献

Multiple avian influenza viruses’ subtypes are circulating worldwide possessing serious threat to human populations and considered key contributors to the emergence of human influenza pandemics. This study aimed to identify the potential existence of H7 and H9 avian influenza infections circulating among chicken flocks in Egypt. Serum samples were collected from chicken flocks that experienced respiratory distresses and/or variable mortality rates. H7 and H9 virus infections were screened by haemagglutination inhibition assay using chicken erythrocytes. Serum samples were collected from 9 broiler, 12 breeder and 18 layer flocks. Out of 1,225 examined sera, 417 (34 %) from 14 flocks and 605 (49.4 %) from 21 flocks were found positive for H7 and H9, respectively. Prevalence of both H7 and H9 antibodies were higher in layer followed by breeder then broiler flocks. Special consideration should be paid to control influenza viruses in Egypt, as pandemic influenza strains may develop unnoticed given the presence of subclinical infections, and the possibility of re-assortment with the prevailing endemic H5N1 virus strains in Egypt do exist.  相似文献

Four meat turkey and one turkey breeding flocks were surveyed for antibodies against reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) at different intervals using commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. In addition, serum samples collected from 18 flocks at different ages were also tested for antibodies against REV. No antibodies were detected in any of the four meat turkey flocks that were surveyed. In the breeder flock, 20%) of tested samples from 1-day-old poults were positive. Between the fourth and 12th weeks all samples that were tested yielded negative results. At 16 weeks of age 15% of samples yielded a positive reaction, but antibodies could not be detected 4 weeks later. Examination of serum samples from 18 different flocks at various ages revealed that antibodies could be detected in five flocks. The percentage of positive sera per flock ranged between 10 and 40%.  相似文献

A prospective study to survey for the presence of parvovirus-like virus (PVLV; so-called chick anemia agent) antibody in broiler breeder pullets in Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida was conducted by collecting serum samples from 52 breeder flocks that ranged in age from 1 day to 55 weeks old. Results indicated that PVLV infection was widespread. Ninety-eight percent (51/52) of chicken flocks and 62% (530/861) of chickens had PVLV antibody. Rates of antibody-positive chickens among flocks ranged from 0% to 100% and averaged 76%. Upon initial examination, the percentages of chickens positive for PVLV appeared evenly distributed with respect to several convenient age groups and geographic locations. However, compared with young chickens (less than or equal to 19 weeks old), markedly significantly lower proportions of positives were present among chickens more than 19 weeks old (P = 0.00001) or chickens 30 weeks old or more (P = 0.000004). Also, there were significant (F = 7.7, df = 3/827, P less than 0.001) differences among the rates of PVLV antibody in chickens among various companies. The relatively high rate of PVLV antibody among broiler breeder chickens helps explain the low incidence of clinical disease among their offspring.  相似文献

Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, pleomorphic bacterium that has been isolated from flocks of turkeys and broilers from around the world. Infections cause respiratory disease, mortality, and growth suppression, or clinical signs of infection may be absent. In layers, there have been few reports of disease caused by O. rhinotracheale. This is the first report of O. rhinotracheale infection in United States layer flocks.  相似文献

Within 1 mo, two separate outbreaks of respiratory disease occurred in two flocks on the multiage market turkey farm in Slovenia. More severe dinical signs and higher mortality were observed in male birds. Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT) was isolated in pure culture from tracheas of the affected birds in both outbreaks. Commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test showed the presence of antibodies to ORT in sera of birds from both clinically affected flocks and also in two flocks of younger birds without clinical sings. Immunoblotting with ORT culture isolated during the outbreak as an antigen confirmed the presence of antibodies to ORT in sera of turkeys of all four flocks examined. In addition, three different serologic assays also detected antibodies to Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) in three out of four flocks. The concomitant infection with MS did not show an obvious effect on mortality rates nor on the antibody response against ORT. Younger birds appeared to be less susceptible to ORT pathogenicity because in those flocks the infection was subclinical.  相似文献

The plaque neutralization test and the agar gel precipitation test were used to detect neutralizing and precipitating antibody to avian reovirus strain WVU2937 in sera from 14 commercial broiler breeder flocks and eight progeny flocks. Ten breeder flocks (71%) possessed positive agar gel precipitation reactors (598 sera tested) and 12 (86%) possessed plaque neutralization reactors (114 serum pools tested). All broiler flocks possessed agar gel precipitation reactors, but these were not examined for neutralizing antibody. As no avian reovirus vaccine had been used in Canada prior to this survey these reactions were presumably due to natural infection. Clinical evidence suggested that such infection was asymptomatic in most cases. The development and persistence of antibody to reovirus strain WVU2937 was followed in chicks exposed to the virus by oral inoculation or by contact. Neutralizing antibody was demonstrated in all birds by postinoculation day 17 and this persisted for at least six months. Precipitating antibody was also demonstrated in most chicks by postinoculation day 17, but by six months only 12% of the chicks were still agar gel precipitation positive.  相似文献

A survey of antibodies against infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV), infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), Newcastle disease virus (NDV), and reovirus (RV) was conducted in broiler-breeder flocks and selected progeny broiler flocks utilizing the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Marked differences in antibody titers between different breeder flocks were related to differences in vaccination programs. Poor performance in some progeny broiler flocks was related to low antibody titers against IBDV in the source breeder flocks. Progeny broiler flocks in which there was a high incidence of condemnations for airsacculitis had elevated antibody titers against IBV. A few progeny broiler flocks that experienced high mortality due to gangrenous dermatitis had no antibody titers against IBDV at processing. Antibody titers against RV were very variable and could not be related to any production problems.  相似文献

Epidemiology of reticuloendotheliosis virus in broiler breeder flocks   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Six broiler breeder flocks from two companies in Mississippi were tested at intervals for reticuloendotheliosis (RE) virus infection. Virus was isolated and antibody demonstrated in all six flocks. Infection was first detected at ages ranging from 13 to 47 weeks. Studies showed that neither congenital transmission from grandparent flocks nor treatment with contaminated vaccines was a likely source of infection; thus, exposure to RE virus was assumed to come from the environment. Virus was isolated from litter samples from two of the flocks, but no specific environmental infection source was identified. Infection rates of flocks differed between the two companies. Although adequate controls were lacking, no performance problems due to RE virus infection were apparent in breeder or broiler progeny flocks. However, the RE viruses isolated from these flocks were immunosuppressive and oncogenic when inoculated into day-old chicks. A moderate (3-16%) incidence of neoplasms was induced by contact exposure to these field isolates in the laboratory.  相似文献

An outbreak of anemia dermatitis syndrome caused by chicken anemia agent (CAA) occurred in 15 broiler flocks. An average of 29% of chickens in these flocks were derived from a common breeder flock. The breeder flock had no antibody to CAA at 20 weeks of age but had seroconverted by 31 weeks. Diseased broiler flocks were derived from eggs laid by the breeder flock between 25 and 30 weeks of age. CAA infection in the breeder flock was subclinical, with no apparent effects on mortality or performance. A strategic program of therapeutic and/or prophylactic antibiotic therapy was begun in affected broiler flocks as soon as the disease was diagnosed. Nevertheless, when the cost of therapy was taken into account, affected broiler flocks had a net income 17.3% to 19.6% lower than normal flocks. Average bird weights were 3.3% to 3.5% lower in affected flocks than in unaffected flocks, and affected flocks had a significantly greater proportion of lighter birds. Average mortality in affected flocks was 2.0% to 2.3% higher than in normal flocks, with peak mortality occurring in the third week of life. There was no apparent effect on feed-conversion ratio.  相似文献

Chickens on 14 broiler breeder farms were examined at various times throughout their laying cycle. Antibodies to the turkey rhinotracheitis virus were common although they were not always accompanied by clinical signs of the swollen head syndrome. Ninety-nine broiler flocks were tested of which only 20 were serologically positive to the virus. Some of these infections were subclinical. On nine farms where swollen head syndrome occurred several successive flocks were sampled; the syndrome occurred intermittently.  相似文献

Sera samples from seven poultry farms in southwest Nigeria consisting of 7 broiler, 10 pullet, 1 layer, 1 cockerel, and 1 broiler breeder flocks were tested for the presence of chicken infectious anemia virus (CIAV) antibodies using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Eleven of the 20 flocks (55%) and six out of seven (86%) farms were positive for CIAV antibodies. The seroprevalence largely depended on the age of the flocks. Seroprevalence was higher within the older pullet and layer flocks (83%-100%) than in the younger broiler flocks (0%-83%). In essence, all flocks older than 6 to 8 wk became infected. This is the first report of serologic evidence of CIAV in Subsaharan Africa. Since Southwest Nigeria is the main port of entry of imported chicken and the hub of major poultry breeders, the disease can probably be found throughout the country and beyond. Further studies are necessary to assess economic losses due to CIAV and the cost benefit of countermeasures.  相似文献
