Abdominal ultrasound (US) is used frequently as a first-line screening tool for abdominal disease. Although computed tomography (CT) is superior to US in the diagnosis of some abdominal diseases, a major impediment is the requirement of general anesthesia to prevent motion and for safe restraint. With multidetector helical CT, faster examinations allow general anesthesia to be avoided, while producing diagnostic-quality images. Abdominal US and CT were compared for lesion detection in 27 sedated dogs, divided into three even groups based on body weight. Lesions were categorized further as to subjective clinical relevance. In dogs less than 25 kg, there is no significant difference in lesion detection between CT and US. In dogs weighing greater than 25 kg, more lesions were detected with CT than with US (P = 0.0001), including clinically relevant lesions (P = 0.0277). From these results, it appears that CT has an advantage in lesion detection in dogs greater than 25 kg, making it a better screening test for abdominal disease in these patients.  相似文献

Safe, effective surgery can be performed in the standing, conscious horse using a combination of mechanical and chemical restraint. Clear indications for performing standing abdominal surgery exist, but many procedures are best performed under general anesthesia. The preferred approach involves a modified grid incision of the left paralumbar fossa. Flank celiotomy allows the surgeon to thoroughly explore the abdominal cavity, but few structures can be exteriorized, and visibility of abdominal contents is poor. Indications for standing abdominal surgery include diagnosis of abdominal masses, drainage and biopsy techniques, correction of left dorsal displacement of the large colon, and evaluation of rectal injuries, and performing loop colostomy techniques, laparoscopy, removal of retained testicles, correction of uterine torsions, surgical embryo transfer, ovariectomy in normal mares, and some experimental procedures. Standing surgical techniques are most useful and appropriate for surgical exploration, to correct uterine torsions, and to perform loop colostomy and surgical embryo transfer techniques. Perioperative antimicrobial and antiinflammatory therapy is recommended. Mild discomfort and ventral incisional swelling after surgery are expected.  相似文献

Pediatric patients are commonly presented to the veterinarian because of signs referable to the abdominal cavity caused by congenital anomalies, dietary indiscretion, parasitic infestation, and infectious disease. Abdominal ultrasound provides valuable clinical information about the peritoneal cavity, great vessels, abdominal viscera, and lymph nodes, which is obtained in a noninvasive fashion and usually does not necessitate sedation or anesthesia. Ultrasonography thus greatly facilitates diagnostic evaluation of the pediatric patient. Ultrasound equipment already in place in many small animal veterinary clinics is appropriate for most pediatric cases.  相似文献

Abdominal radiography and ultrasonography are commonly used as part of the initial diagnostic plan for cats with nonspecific signs of abdominal disease. This retrospective study compared the clinical usefulness of abdominal radiography and ultrasonography in 105 feline patients with signs of abdominal disease. The final diagnosis was determined more commonly with ultrasonography (59%) compared to radiography (25.7%). Ultrasonography was also able to provide additional clinically relevant information in 76% of cases, and changed or refined the diagnosis in 47% of cases. Based on these findings, ultrasonography may be sufficient as an initial diagnostic test for the investigation of feline abdominal disease.  相似文献

This report describes a novel technique for abdominal wall reconstruction using an internal abdominal oblique muscle flap in an Australian kelpie. En bloc resection of a chondrosarcoma and biopsy scar centred on the 13th rib was performed to include full thickness thoracic wall (12th rib, extending caudally) and lateral abdominal wall (including the vascular pedicle of the external abdominal oblique muscle). The diaphragm was advanced to close the thorax. A flap using the caudal internal abdominal oblique muscle with the base dorsally was elevated and rotated 90° to fill the dorsal defect. The ventral defect was closed using the composite ventral abdominal muscles. The skin was closed primarily. The dog developed a self-resolving seroma. Twelve months postoperatively, the dog was able to engage in agility competitions. A viable muscle flap using the internal abdominal oblique muscle provides a useful alternative to previously described techniques for autogenous closure of a large abdominal wall wound.  相似文献
