Serum testosterone concentrations in samples collected daily from 6 bitches for at least 60 days before the onset of diestrus were determined by radioimmunoassay. Mean serum concentrations (+/- SEM) of testosterone ranged from 31 +/- 11 to 141 +/- 63 pg/ml during late anestrus. Mean testosterone concentrations during proestrus ranged from 106 +/- 29 to 239 +/- 113 pg/ml, with the highest concentration (526 +/- 225 pg/ml) occurring the day of the preovulatory surge of luteinizing hormone. Although the ovaries may be sites of production during late anestrus, proestrus, estrus, and early diestrus, further investigation is necessary to determine whether testosterone has an important physiologic or endocrinologic function in the bitch (ie, sexual behavior, vaginal hypertrophy, and luteinizing hormone surge).  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether cabergoline would be safe and effective for induction of estrus in dogs with primary or secondary anestrus. DESIGN: Prospective case series. ANIMALS: 6 privately owned otherwise healthy pure-bred dogs with primary or secondary anestrus. PROCEDURE: Dogs were treated with cabergoline (5 microg/kg [2.3 microg/lb], p.o., q 24 h) until 2 days after the onset of proestrus. Follicular development was assessed by means of cytologic examination of vaginal smears; ovulation was assessed by measuring serum progesterone concentration 3 weeks after the onset of estrus. Five bitches were mated during behavioral estrus. RESULTS: All dogs had normal estrus periods, and all 5 dogs that were mated whelped normal litters. Mean duration of cabergoline treatment was 16 days. None of the dogs had any adverse effects associated with cabergoline administration. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggest that administration of cabergoline is safe and effective for treatment for primary and secondary anestrus in dogs.  相似文献

The pulsatile IV administration of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) was evaluated as a method to induce fertile estrus in 8 anestrous Beagle bitches. Bitches received 1.25 micrograms of GnRH every 90 minutes for 11 to 13 days. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone was delivered by use of an automatic pump. Reproductive history was known for all bitches, 4 of which, on the basis of 3 or 4 preceding cycles, had an interestrous interval of 219 +/- 14 days (mean +/- SEM). Estrus induction was attempted during early anestrus in 6 bitches (ie, 148 +/- 10 days since the preceding estrus) and late anestrus in 1 bitch (ie, 260 days since the preceding estrus); another bitch had not had an estrous cycle for nearly 2 years before GnRH administration. Signs of estrus were seen within 16 days after the start of GnRH administration in the bitches with regular estrous cycles (group 1, n = 7), and within 23 days in the bitch (group 2) with prolonged anestrus. All bitches were bred, and 7 of 8 (87.5%) became pregnant, with a mean litter size of 4.5 +/- 0.75. A normal hormonal response pattern was observed in group-1 bitches--a peak increase in plasma estrogen concentration of 22.3 +/- 2 pg/ml immediately before the onset of estrus. Peak plasma progesterone concentration (17.3 +/- 3 ng/ml) was observed 1 to 14 days after the onset of diestrus in the group-1 bitches that ovulated, and adequate plasma progesterone concentration was maintained throughout gestation.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine if propylthiouracil (PTU)-induced thyroid suppression immediately before onset of anestrus would extend the breeding season in mature ewes. In Exp. 1, twice-weekly serum concentrations of progesterone indicated that all ewes were cyclic before initiation of treatment. Beginning on d 0 (January 17), ewes received 0 (n = 4), 20 (n = 5), or 40 (n = 5) mg of PTU x kg(-1) of body weight (BW) x (-1) for 35 d. Blood samples were collected regularly throughout the trial and serum thyroxine and progesterone were quantified. Ewe BW were similar (P > 0.90) among treatments before the experiment began (mean = 78.2 +/- 4.5 kg). Likewise, serum concentrations of thyroxine averaged 86.5 +/- 8.0 ng/mL on d 0. After 11 d of PTU treatment, serum thyroxine was 90.2,75.2, and 44.2 +/- 14.0 ng/mL in ewes receiving 0, 20, and 40 mg of PTU/kg BW, respectively (linear effect, P = 0.04). On d 20, thyroxine values in the three respective groups were 73.0, 51.1, and 16.1 +/- 12.9 ng/mL (linear effect, P < 0.01). Fourteen days after PTU treatment ended, serum thyroxine did not differ (P = 0.53) among the three respective groups (71.4,73.3, and 57.5 +/- 11.8 ng/mL). Ewes receiving PTU tended to weigh less on d 42 (84.2, 78.2, and 71.8 +/- 5.1 kg for ewes treated with 0, 20, and 40 mg PTU/kg, respectively; linear effect, P = 0.10). Day of onset of anestrus was designated as the day on which serum progesterone decreased and remained below 1 ng/mL. Ewes treated with 0, 20, or 40 mg of PTU/kg BW became anestrous on d 16,40, and 81 (+/- 12) of the experiment, respectively (linear effect, P < 0.01). At the time the 35-d treatment period ended, 25, 60, and 100% of ewes receiving 0, 20, or 40 mg of PTU/kg exhibited normal estrous cycles. In Exp. 2, ewes received 0, 20, or 40 mg of PTU/kg BW for 14 d. The dose was then decreased to 0, 10, and 20 mg of PTU/kg BW for the remaining 21 d. Serum thyroxine decreased to concentrations below 20 ng/mL by d 9 after initiation of PTU treatment. Ewe weights did not differ throughout the trial and no BW loss was observed. The average day that each group entered anestrus was similar to those in Exp 1. Large doses of PTU dramatically lower serum thyroxine and this effect appears to inhibit onset of anestrus in ewes.  相似文献

The influence of exposure to exogenous estradiol on the interval from parturition to first ovulation, luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion and luteal function was examined in cows. Cows were assigned at parturition to one of three treatments. Cows received either a 3.0 (1-E; n = 30) or .75 cm (1/4-E; n = 28) implant containing 17 beta-estradiol or served as untreated control animals (C; n = 33). Implants were administered within 2 days following parturition and removed on day 40 postpartum (day 0 = day of parturition). Single blood samples were collected twice weekly and analyzed for progesterone to determine length of postpartum anestrus and duration of the initial increase in progesterone. Sequential blood samples were collected on day 35 +/- .1 postpartum (15 min intervals for 18 hrs) from 5 cows in each treatment and analyzed for LH. Concentrations of estradiol were higher (P less than .01) in the 1-E (5.3 +/- .24) than in C (3.9 +/- .23) or 1/4 E (3.9 +/- .25) cows on day 35 postpartum. The interval from parturition to the first estrous cycle of normal duration was similar for cows in the C and 1-E treatment (53 +/- 2.4 and 56 +/- 2.4 days, respectively). Cows in the 1/4-E treatment had a longer (P less than .05) interval (68 +/- 2.5 days). Secretion of LH was similar among treatments on day 35 postpartum. The first normal luteal phase after parturition was preceded by a transient rise in progesterone in 81, 64 and 85% of the cows in the C, 1-E and 1/4-E treatments, respectively.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Receptors for estrogen and progesterone were measured in cytosols prepared from specimens of canine endometrium obtained at late proestrus, day 4 of estrus, day 2 of diestrus, and at 10 day intervals from days 10 through 80 of diestrus. Twenty nine adult bitches were used, with 2 to 4 dogs used at each time point. Concentrations of estradiol receptors measured in endometrial cytosols from late proestrus through day 10 of diestrus were similar (mean +/- SEM: 9.9 +/- 2.2, 10.5 +/- 1.2, 16.3 +/- 1.6, and 16.2 +/- 2.9 pmol/g of tissue at proestrus, day 4 of estrus, days 2 and 10 of diestrus, respectively). As serum concentrations of progesterone increased during early diestrus, the concentration of estradiol receptors decreased and were significantly (P less than 0.05) lower on days 30 (4.9 +/- 1.3 pmol/g of tissue) and 40 (3.7 +/- 0.6 pmol/g of tissue) of diestrus. After day 40 of diestrus, when serum concentrations of progesterone were approaching basal concentrations, the concentration of estradiol receptors increased and remained significantly (P less than 0.05) higher from days 60 to 80 of diestrus (day 60, 13.4 +/- 2.9; day 70, 15.7 +/- 1.7; day 80, 19.8 +/- 2.4 pmol/g of tissue). Duroc sows farrowed second litters in March and lactated 35 +/- 2 days. At 36 hr before weaning, electrocautery of follicles greater than or equal to 3 mm in diameter (n = 8) or sham surgery (n = 5) was performed to test the hypothesis that ablation of medium-sized follicles would prolong the duration of postweaning anestrus. Number of follicles and diameters at surgery were: 1.3 +/- .6 (greater than 5 mm diameter), 26 +/- 1 (3 to 5 mm) and greater than 20 (less than 3 mm). Blood samples were collected at 15 min intervals for 3 hr beginning at -12, 0, 12, 60 and 96 hr from weaning. Interval to estrus was 3.4 +/- .2 days in seven of eight cauterized sows and 3.6 +/- .6 days for sham-surgery sows. The remaining cauterized sow was anestrus at slaughter, 40 days after weaning. Number of corpora lutea and pregnancy rate were 15.8 +/- .6 and 92%, respectively, and were similar between sham-surgery and cauterized sows. Concentration of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) at 12 hr before weaning was greater in sows subjected to electrocautery than for sham-surgery sows, but FSH values were similar at other sampling times. Concentrations of estradiol were similar at all times for both treatment groups. Luteinizing hormone (LH) was higher (P less than .05) at 60 hr in cauterized sows because of the onset of the preovulatory LH surge in one sow. We conclude that destruction of medium-sized ovarian follicles before weaning did not influence postweaning reproductive performance.  相似文献

The effects of photoperiod on reproductive activity and hair changes in pony mares were studied in 2 experiments. In experiment I, the effect of a fixed daily photoperiod on the onset of the breeding season was studied in 36 mares from Nov 13, 1973, to June 13, 1974. The 4 treatment groups were as follows: daily photoperiod equivalent to the normal day length (control group); constant light 24 hours a day with no dark (L24:D0 group); 16-hour daily photoperiod with 8 hours of dark (L16:D8 group); and 9-hour daily photoperiod with 15 hours of dark (L9:D15 group). The intervals from beginning of experiment to 1st ovulation of breeding season, to shedding of hair in tufts, and to appearance of a smooth coat were shorter (P less than 0.05) for L16:D8 group (107.1 +/- 11.1, 56.0 +/- 0, and 145.8 +/- 4.0 days, respectively) than for control, L24:D0, and L9:D15 groups and were shorter (P less than 0.05) for L24:D0 group (less than 156.1 +/- 12.2, 99.5 +/- 9.5, and 173.9 +/- 9.9 days, respectively) than for control group (192.1 +/- 3.3, 134.9 +/- 8.9, and 205.0 +/- 0 days, respectively) or L9:D15 group (less than 200.3 +/- 5,8, 150.6 +/- 12.9, and 201.7 +/- 3.3 days, respectively). These intervals were not significantly different between the control group and the L9:D15 group, but fewer (P less than 0.05) mares in the L9:D15 group had at least 1 ovulation by termination of the project. In experiment II, the effect of photoperiod on onset of anestrus was studied in 3 groups of 7 mares each. Mares in group A, as part of a previous experiment, were induced to enter the breeding season earlier than normal by a gradual increase in daily photoperiod beginning on Oct 13, 1972. From Feb 16, 1973, to June 22, 1973, group A mares were maintained at a fixed daily photoperiod of 15 hours 23 minutes. Mares in group B, as part of a previous experiment, were kept under environmental conditions simulating normal conditions in southern Wisconsin. On June 22, 1973 (beginning of the present experiment), the following treatments began: groups A and B were exposed to natural day length. In addition, 7 mares (group C) were allotted from a band of mares that had been exposed to natural day length and were exposed to 15-hour 23-minute daily photoperiod from the beginning of the present experiment (June 22, 1973) to the end (June 22, 1974). The interval to onset of anestrus was longer (P less than 0.05) for group C mares (234.6 +/- 35 days) than for group B mares (133.6 +/- 16.5 days). Significant difference did not exist between group A (144.0 +/- 45.9 days) and group B. A fixed daily photoperiod of 16 or 24 hours induced early onset of the breeding season and early shedding of hair, with development of a smooth coat. A photoperiod of 9 hours retarded the onset of the breeding season. Mares induced to begin the breeding season earlier than normal did not become anestrous earlier than normal. Mares kept on a long daily photoperiod in the fall became anestrous later than normal.  相似文献

Ovariectomized ewes (n=22; 68.76+/-2.34 kg initial body weight; 2.9+/-0.1 initial body condition score) were individually fed one of three diets: (1) control (phytoestrogen-free; n=7), (2) flax containing diet (n=8), or (3) linseed meal (LSM) containing diet (n=7) to investigate the rate of progesterone (P4) clearance. On day 20 of feeding (day 0=initiation of treatment), a P4 releasing device (CIDR) was placed in the vagina and jugular blood samples were obtained prior to CIDR insertion and 15, 30, 60, and 120 min following CIDR insertion. Further, blood samples were obtained daily between days 21 and 24. On day 25, blood samples were retrieved prior to CIDR removal and 2, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 120, and 360 min following CIDR removal. There was no difference in initial or final body weight or body condition score and there were no time by diet interactions on P4 clearance. The fractional rate of P4 uptake measured prior to CIDR insertion through day 4 following insertion tended to be greater (P=0.07) in LSM fed ewes (508.75+/-71.37%/min) compared to flax (295.39+/-66.76%/min) and control fed (287.54+/-71.37%/min) ewes. Diet tended (P=0.10) to influence P4 clearance rate when measured from prior to CIDR removal through 120 min following CIDR removal with LSM fed ewes having a greater (1.26+/-0.2) fractional rate constant than flax (0.929+/-0.09) and control fed (0.922+/-0.09) ewes. Flax fed ewes also had more (P<0.01) omega-3 fatty acids and total fatty acids in plasma. Reports of increased pregnancy rates in dairy cows fed flax may relate to P4 metabolism.  相似文献

To study the effectiveness of a treatment with an intravaginal progestagen in combination with estradiol-17beta (E-17beta) on estrus induction, prevention of prolonged anestrus and fertility in noncycling crossbred zebu cows, a trial was conducted in a farm in Zulia state, Venezuela. Fifty noncycling suckled crossbred cows (B. taurus x B. indicus) with 60 dpp were randomly allotted to one of the following treatments: MAP+E-17beta (n=22), intravaginal device (250 mg of MAP) during 7 days + 50 mg of MAP and 5 mg of E-17beta im (day 0) and 1.5 mg of E-17beta im (day 8) (Pregnaheat-E; VIATECA-Venezuela); CG (n=28), control group without hormonal treatment. The MAP+E-17beta group showed higher (P<0.05) estrus and synchronization rates (59.1 and 36.4 %) than CG (25.0 and 3.5 %). Cows receiving MAP had higher (P<0.05) overall pregnancy rate than CG (45.5 and 17.8 %, respectively). A decreased (P<0.05) anestrus rate was observed in MAP+E-17beta (31.8%) compared to CG (57.1%). Calving-conception interval was shorter (P<0.05) in MAP+E-17beta (132.5+/-16.8 days) than in CG (178.9+/-14.7 days). In conclusion, treatment with MAP+E-17beta at 60 days postpartum was effective to induce estrus, prevent prolonged anestrus, and reduce the calving-conception interval, improving reproductive performance in dual purpose crossbred Zebu cows.  相似文献

The reproductive cycle of the domestic dog features a long period of relative ovarian inactivity or anestrus. The mechanism of anestrous termination/oestrous resumption is not yet fully understood, which presents a challenge to the development of oestrous induction protocols. In this study, we assess the possibility that anti‐Müllerian hormone (AMH) might play a role in this transition by characterizing its patterns of expression in the circulation during the transition from anestrus to oestrous and in all stages of ovarian follicular growth. Serum samples from five beagles (2.0–4.5 years) were collected three times per week at least 30 days prior to the onset of oestrous and assessed for AMH concentrations. Serum AMH concentration increased significantly during the transition from anestrus to proestrus and then declined back to the anestrous baseline beginning on day ?4 before the luteinizing hormone surge, which was determined by changes in serum progesterone concentrations. Cortical sections of ovaries from females undergoing routine ovariohysterectomy (aged 8 months–5 years, n = 4) were evaluated for AMH by immunohistochemistry. Pre‐antral and small antral follicles were most strongly immunoreactive for AMH. These data suggest that the increase in the number of antral follicles is associated with the rise in serum AMH as the anestrous period comes to an end. The rise in AMH might be useful in predicting the onset of oestrus and therefore assist with the optimization of oestrous induction protocols and possibly other assisted reproductive technologies.  相似文献

Seasonally anestrous Suffolk ewes (n = 28) were randomly divided into 5 groups and treated with varying doses of melatonin as follows; Groups C (n = 4), M1 (n = 6), M2 (n = 6), M3 (n = 6), M4 (n = 6) of ewes were fed pellets containing 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 mg melatonin, respectively, daily for 60 days from May 17 (Day 0). Following feeding of the pellets at 13.00 hr plasma levels of melatonin rapidly increased reaching the peak values within 30 min, which ranged from 92.0 to 292.7 pg/ml and were highly correlated with the dose of melatonin administered (r = 0.986, P less than 0.01). Maximum dose of melatonin (4 mg) produced an increase of plasma melatonin similar in magnitude to nocturnal peaks of endogenous secretion. The onset of ovulatory cyclicity, assessed from plasma progesterone profiles, was advanced by melatonin administration. The mean +/- SEM intervals from the commencement of melatonin treatment until the onset of ovulatory cyclicity were 53.0 +/- 5.8, 53.6 +/- 2.5, 42.0 +/- 5.6 and 44.3 +/- 4.3 days for the Groups M1, M2, M3 and M4, respectively, which were shorter (M1, P less than 0.05; M2, M3 & M4, P less than 0.01) than that for the Group C (72.5 +/- 1.4 days). The melatonin treatment also suppressed, in a dose related manner, the rise in plasma prolactin under the lengthening photoperiod. We conclude that the dose-related efficacy of melatonin could be ascribed to the difference in the diurnal profiles of circulating melatonin.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to compare two different protocols of oestrous induction, using either a dopamine agonist (cabergoline) or a GnRH agonist (buserelin) in anoestrus bitches. The clinical trial involved 22 Beagle bitches, randomly allotted to two treatment groups: group A (n = 12) was orally administered cabergoline (Galastop®; Centralvet‐Vetem, Milan, Italy; 5 μg/kg SID), until the onset of cytological oestrus or for a maximum of 30 days and group B (n = 10) was treated with buserelin acetate, (Suprefact®; Aventis Pharma, Milan, Italy), administered subcutaneously t.i.d., at 1.5 μg/kg for 11 days and 0.75 μg/kg for the following 3 days. Blood samples were collected twice a week to measure progesterone and prolactin concentration. Both cabergoline and buserelin produced a significant early decline in prolactin concentration (p < 0.01), but the effect of cabergoline lasted longer. Progesterone concentration was significantly affected by buserelin administration, showing a significant increase (p < 0.01) from day 3 to day 6 of treatment. Cabergoline confirmed its effectiveness in inducing oestrus as 10 of 12 bitches responded to the treatment, were mated and whelped. On the contrary, oestrus was observed in only three of 10 buserelin‐treated bitches and in two of them 7 and 13 days after the end of treatment. These same two bitches accepted mating and conceived. The results suggest that in a clinical setting, dopaminergic treatment is the treatment of choice as it yields more consistent results and involves a much easier administration protocol.  相似文献

To evaluate the effect of late introduction to farrowing pens on the progress of farrowing and maternal behavior, 20 primiparous and 20 multiparous sows were allocated randomly to 1 of 2 treatments: 1) early introduction to pen (EP, n = 20) and 2) late introduction to pen (LP, n = 20). To evaluate the difference between loose-housed sows and crated sows when introduced late to the farrowing environment, a third treatment was included: late introduction to farrowing crate (LC, n = 20). Sow behavior and piglet birth intervals were recorded using video recordings from 16 h before the birth of the first piglet (BFP) until 48 h after BFP. Behavioral data were analyzed using PROC MIXED in SAS and the percentage of stillborn piglets and the response of the sow to piglet scream were analyzed using PROC GENMOD in SAS. Before farrowing (16 to 3 h before BFP), sows introduced late to pens had more postural changes per hour than sows introduced early to pens (LP = 12.7, EP = 8.9; P = 0.04), whereas there were no differences between sows introduced late to crates and sows introduced late to pens (LC = 14.2, LP = 12.7; P = 0.53). Interbirth interval (P = 0.04), variation in the interbirth interval (P = 0.01), and percentage of stillborn piglets (P = 0.003) were affected by an interaction between parity and treatment. In multiparous sows there were no differences between treatments (P > 0.18) either in the progress of farrowing or in the percentage of stillborn piglets. For primiparous sows, there were no differences (P > 0.22) between sows that were introduced late to pens and sows that were introduced early to pens. Primiparous sows that were introduced late to crates compared with pens had longer interbirth intervals (LC = 29 +/- 4.9 min, LP = 16 +/- 2.9 min; P = 0.02), a greater variation of these intervals (LC = 35 +/- 8.3 min, LP = 16 +/- 3.6 min; P = 0.006), and a greater percentage of stillborn piglets (LC = 21%; 95% confidence interval ranging 14 to 30%, LP = 5%; 95% confidence interval ranging from 2 to 12%; P = 0.004). After farrowing, neither postural changes, time spent in lateral lying, number of near-crushing situations, nor the response to piglet scream test were affected by treatment (P > 0.09). When sows and gilts were introduced late to farrowing pens, neither progress of farrowing nor maternal behavior of importance for piglet crushing was influenced. However, crating primiparous sows that were introduced late to the farrowing environment compared with pen housing had detrimental effects on the progress of farrowing and the percentage of stillborn piglets.  相似文献

The relationship between placental retention, progesterone and pregnancy-specific protein B (bPSPB) was determined in 60 calving Holstein cows. The cows were divided into two groups with placental retention (WPR, n = 16) and no placental retention (NPR, n = 44). Every 4 days, until 60 days post-partum, blood samples were taken and the uteri were checked using ultrasonographv. The puerperal characteristics of NPR and WPR were as follows: mean days of abnormal vaginal discharge: 20.2+/-5 versus 35.6+/-7 (P < 0.01); mean intervals to uterine involution: 21.4+/-3.7 versus 27.6+/-7.6 days (P < 0.01); rate of endometritis: 25 versus 100% (P < 0.01). The mean numbers of oestrus cycles per cow were 1.75+/-0.5 versus 0.85-/+0.9 (P < 0.05) and the mean durations of the first oestrus cycle were 18+/-3.5 versus 16+/-2.1 days (P > 0.05). The mean intervals to first ovulation were 21.5+/-8.4 versus 35+/-19 days (P < 0.01). bPSPB blood concentrations were higher in the WPR group at calving with 955+/-170 versus 750+/-205 ng/ml (P < 0.01) and also during the first 32 days post-partum with 173.68+/-47.3 versus 131.0+/-29.2 ng/ml (P < 0.01). The mean bPSPB half-life was similar in the two groups: 6.9+/-2.5 versus 6.5+/-2.1 days (P > 0.05). In conclusion, it was found that placental retention was associated with a higher rate of endometritis, a lower number of cycles, longer interval to first post-partum ovulation and higher concentration of bPSPB at calving and during the post-partum period. The positive relationship between bPSPB concentrations and calf birth weight and their association with post-partum pathological events may be useful in monitoring animals presenting high concentrations at calving.  相似文献

This study was conducted to examine uterine changes and uterocervical discharges following intrauterine infusion with liquid paraffin (LP) during the luteal phase by ultrasonic and vaginoscopic examinations in cows. Multiparous dairy cows (n=10) were infused with 50 ml physiological saline (PS group; n=5) or liquid paraffin (LP group; n=5) on day 10 or 11 after ovulation (day 0: ovulation). Vaginoscopic, rectal and ultrasonogaphic examinations were carried out at 0.25, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24 h after the LP and PS infusion and then at daily intervals until subsequent ovulation after the infusions. The mean volumes of recovered discharges from the vagina within 6 h after infusion were significantly greater (P<0.05) in the LP group than in the PS group (33.0 +/- 9.9 vs.14.0 +/- 13.9 ml). Yellowish-white discharge was first observed at 3.2 +/- 0.5 and 3.6 +/- 0.6 h after infusion and lasted for 12.2 +/- 2.9 and 2.1 +/- 1.5 days for the LP and PS groups, respectively, showing a significant difference (P<0.05) in duration. Subsequently, transparent discharge appeared again 2-3 days before the subsequent ovulation after the treatments in both groups and disappeared on the day prior to or the day of ovulation. During the immediate examination after the infusion, the cavity of the uterine horn appeared anechoic and dilated in the images of both groups. The anechoic images changed to echoic images at 2.2 +/- 0.8 and 2.6 +/- 0.9 h after the infusion in the LP and PS groups, respectively, and the echoic images lasted for 12.2 +/- 2.9 and 2.1 +/- 1.5 days in the LP and PS groups, respectively. These results suggest that the appearance and disappearance of intrauterine anechoic and echoic images reflect the appearance and disappearance of the characteristics of the recovered LP/PS-like liquid and yellowish-white and transparent discharges from the vagina.  相似文献

The working hypotheses in this experiment were: that ovarian estradiol would inhibit luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion in heifers that were anestrus as a result of restricted dietary energy intake and the responsiveness of LH secretion to estradiol negative feedback would decrease during the period when restoration of estrous cycles occurred following feeding of diets adequate in energy. Fifteen heifers weighing 341 +/- 12 (mean +/- SE) kg were fed a diet containing 50% of the energy required for maintenance until 40 to 50 d following cessation of estrous cycles. Heifers were assigned to intact control (C, n = 5), ovariectomized (OVX, n = 5) or ovariectomized-estradiol-17 beta-implanted (OVX + E2, n = 5) treatments. Heifers were subsequently provided a high-energy (HE) diet until termination of the study. Progesterone concentrations indicating cessation of corpus luteum function were detected after heifers had lost 71 +/- 8 kg body weight over 186 +/- 28 d. Control heifers re-initiated estrous cycles as indicated by increased progesterone concentrations in serum at 49 +/- 9 d after initiation of feeding the HE diet (360 +/- 18 kg body weight). Initiation of pulsatile LH secretion was observed in heifers by d 12 following OVX. Estradiol suppressed LH secretion in OVX + E2 heifers during the period of nutritional anestrus in C heifers. Suppressive effects of E2 on LH secretion continued in OVX heifers after C heifers had initiated corpus luteum function. Therefore, the working hypothesis that LH secretion is inhibited by E2 in the nutritionally anestrous heifer is accepted but responsiveness to estradiol does not subside with re-initiation of estrous cycles, thus this working hypothesis is rejected.  相似文献

Crossbred ewes (1/2 Dorset, 1/4 Rambouillet, and 1/4 Finnsheep) from a flock being selected for spring fertility, defined as ability to lamb following ram exposure in May and June in Virginia (37 degrees N latitude), were used to study the duration of the seasonal anestrus. In the first 3 yr of the study (1992, 1993, and 1995), mature ewes were divergently selected based on EBV for fertility, and the duration of anestrus was measured by continuously exposing the ewes to vasectomized rams equipped with marking harnesses from mid-January until approximately August 1. Only ewes that had lambed in the previous fall were used to ensure that ewes were in a comparable physiological state, and the same rams remained with the ewes in each year to avoid induction of estrus by introduction of novel rams. The duration of anestrus in high-fertility ewes (n = 26; mean fertility EBV of 12.6%) was 28.4 d, which was significantly less than the 70.2 d of anestrus observed for low-fertility ewes (n = 15; mean fertility EBV of .3%). Five high-fertility ewes did not exhibit a period of anestrus. The regression of number of days of anestrus on fertility EBV was -2.15 +/- .72 d/%. In yr 4 (1997), 11 high-fertility and two low-fertility ewes were evaluated. None of these ewes exhibited a clear seasonal anestrus; six unequivocally cycled continuously. Between January 23 and July 31, the mean duration of anestrus for these ewes was only approximately 11 d. The duration of anestrus for high-fertility ewes seems to be the shortest reported for temperate sheep breeds.  相似文献

The objectives of the study were to (a) develop a simple fecal progestin extraction and radioimmunoassay method to measure immunoreactive progestin in porcine feces and (b) to characterize fecal progestin profiles during the estrous cycle and postpartum. A simple extraction method was developed in trial 1 and the mean (+/- SD) progestin recovery of the method was 84.3 +/- 3.5%. Progesterone levels measured at five different spiked concentrations (50, 100, 200, 400, and 500 ng/0.5 g feces) showed no systematic error. The sensitivity of the assay was 0.16 nmol/L of the extract. Trial 2 involved collecting fecal samples from six cycling sows every second or third day, beginning on the day of estrus (day 0) and continuing until day 22. The mean (+/- SD) fecal progestin concentrations of these sows determined by the above assay during days 0-5, days 6-10, days 11-15, and days 16-21 were 87.1 +/- 17.5, 262.6 +/- 102.1, 1188.2 +/- 454.1, and 897.3 +/- 274.1 x 10(-3) nmol/g feces, respectively. In trial 3, fecal samples from six postpartum sows were collected at weekly intervals beginning from day 7 after farrowing until day 50. The mean (+/- SD) fecal progestin concentrations were 111.0 +/- 61.1, 74.1 +/- 21.3, 66.5 +/- 26.1, 122.7 +/- 58.8 and 533.5 +/- 244.2 x 10(-3) nmol/g feces, during days 7-10, days 11-20, days 21-30, days 31-40, and days 41-50 postpartum, respectively. The results indicate that simple fecal progestin extraction and assay are feasible alternatives to the standard blood progesterone assays for monitoring reproductive function in swine.  相似文献
