REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Dystocia in the mare is an emergency in which duration has a profound effect on survival of the foal. Specific examination of the effects of dystocia duration on foal survival provides information to enable horse care personnel and veterinarians to manage these cases more effectively and maximise the chances of obtaining a live foal. HYPOTHESIS: Dystocia duration would have a negative impact on foal survival while method of dystocia resolution would not have an effect on foal survival. Additionally, we were interested in determining the effects of dystocia on subsequent fertility. METHODS AND RESULTS: In the years 1986-1999, 247 dystocias were admitted. Of these, 91 % resulted in survival and discharge of the mare, 42% in delivery of a live foal, and 29% of foals survived to discharge. Period from hospital arrival to delivery for foals alive at discharge (23.0 +/- 14.1 mins) was not significantly different than for foals not surviving (24.8 +/- 10.6 mins) (P > 0.05); and from chorioallantoic rupture to delivery for foals alive at discharge (71.7 +/- 343 mins) was significantly less than for foals not surviving (853 +/- 37.4 mins) (P < 0.05). Average predystocia live foaling rates for all mares with available records was 84%. Overall post dystocia live foaling rates over the entire period of this study were 67%. Of mares bred in the year of the dystocia, 59% had a live foal in the year following. CONCLUSIONS: Based on these results, dystocia duration has a significant effect on foal survival and resolution methods should be chosen to minimise this time, as the difference between mean dystocia duration for foals that lived and those that did not in this study was 13.6 mins. Post dystocia foaling rates reported here are higher than previously reported for both same-season and overall breedings, indicating same-season breeding may be rewarding for select dystocia cases. POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: Dystocia resolution methods that minimise delivery time may maximise foal survival. Post dystoicia breeding may be rewarding in select cases.  相似文献

The incidence of dystocia from ewes in nine lambing periods (1992-2000) was recorded at an obstetrical clinic. First we analysed parturition difficulties in normal pregnant sheep (group 1, n = 229). In the second group parturitions of ewes with vaginal prolapse ante partum were investigated (n = 129). In group 1 maternal causes of dystocia occurred more often than fetal ones (50% maternal, 45% fetal). In maternal parturition difficulties ringwomb was the dominating reason (64%), while abnormal presentations, position and/or posture of the lambs occurred most frequently in fetal dystocia (67%). But there was no statistical influence of age and number of parturitions in both groups. The average of the first notice of prolapsed vaginal tissue was 11 days before lambing. There was a predominance in the affection of sheep at first and second pregnancy (52%). Only 26% of the group 2 sheep had a spontaneous delivery. In 58% of the cases a dystocia was diagnosed. A preterm caesarean section had carried out in 12%, five ewes died before parturition because of septicemia (4%). Sheep suffering from vaginal prolapse ante partum showed maternal caused dystocia significant more frequently than members of group 1 (p < 0.001), with ringwomb as dominating reason (70%). The number of born lambs was significant higher in group 2 than in group 1 (p = 0.019).  相似文献

Abstract

AIMS: To examine the gestation lengths and occurrence of daytime foaling of Standardbred mares foaling outdoors at stud farms in Southland, New Zealand (latitude 45?S).

METHODS: Data were collected prospectively at two commercial Standardbred stud farms (Farms A and B), during the 2008/9 and 2009/10 breeding seasons (October to February). For each foaling, the identity of the mare, date and time of foaling, gender of foal, time the mare passed the fetal membranes, time the foal stood, and foaling problems including dystocias, were recorded. The effect of farm, season, gender of foal, month of artificial insemination (AI) or foaling, age and parity of mare on gestation length, percentage of mares foaling during daylight hours, and percentage of foalings recorded as dystocia, were examined.

RESULTS: A total of 614 foaling records were obtained from 507 mares. For 594 foalings with complete records, mean gestation length was 349 (SE 0.5) days. Mean gestation length was shorter for fillies (347.8 (SE 0.6) days) than colts (350.3 (SE 0.6) days) p = 0.021) and decreased with month of AI, from October to February (p = 0.001). The time of foaling was bimodally distributed with the primary peak around 0200 hours and a secondary smaller peak around 1300 hours. The percentage of mares foaling in daylight was lower on Farm A (69/285 (24%)) than Farm B (128/313 (41%)) (p = 0.001). Colt foals were less likely to be born during the day than fillies (OR = 0.63; (95% CI = 0.44–0.88); p = 0.008), but there was no effect of age or parity of mare or month of foaling (p>0.05).

CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Mean gestation length of mares in this study was longer than that previously reported from other countries. Longer gestation length decreases the time available for these mares to get back into foal in the same season. It is important that managers take this into account and ensure optimum conditions for conception; breeding at the first postpartum oestrus may be essential. There were more mares foaling in daylight hours on one stud than has previously been reported. Under these conditions mares should be monitored for foaling during daytime as well as at night.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to test the effect of clenbuterol, a smooth muscle relaxant, as an aid for the manual correction of bovine dystocias in a rural Quebec practice. The drug was given initially by intravenous coccygeal or jugular injection at a dose of 0.6 micrograms-0.8 micrograms/kg of body weight to parturient cows affected with fetal malpresentations (n = 37), malpostures (n = 112), or uterine torsions (n = 70). These cases comprised 32% (219/688) of the manually corrected dystocias encountered in cattle during the trial. Ease provided for obstetrical maneuvers of different types of dystocias was the evaluation criteria used in this report. The drug's myometrial relaxant effect made corrections easier for the veterinarian, and shorter and less traumatic for the dam. The success rates achieved for vaginal corrections and delivery of uterine torsions were 84% (76/91) and 77% (70/91), respectively. Other recorded benefits included the need for less frequent use of epidural anesthesia and a significantly lower incidence of retained fetal membranes (chi 2 = 11.18, p < 0.001). No adverse reactions were observed at any time. Clenbuterol proved to be a useful drug for manual correction of dystocias in cattle.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine survival rate, complications, and short-term fertility rate after fetotomy in mares. DESIGN: Retrospective study. ANIMALS: 72 mares with severe dystocia. PROCEDURES: Records from 1991 to 2005 were searched for mares with dystocia in which a fetotomy was performed. Data relating to presentation and position of foals; survival rate, complications, and short-term fertility rate in mares; and 45-day pregnancy rate in mares bred 2 to 3 months after fetotomy were recorded. RESULTS: Anterior fetal presentation was detected for 54 of 72 (75%) mares, posterior presentation was detected for 13 (18.1%), and transverse presentation was detected for 5 (6.9%). One fetus in anterior presentation was hydrocephalic. Survival rate after fetotomy was 95.8%. Complications included retained fetal membranes (5.5%), laminitis (6.9%), vaginal and cervical lacerations (2.8%), and delayed uterine involution (2.8%). Mares bred 2 to 3 months after fetotomy had good short-term fertility, with a mean pregnancy rate of 79.4% at 45 days after breeding. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The survival rate was high, compared with rates reported after cesarean section, and short-term fertility rate was similar to those reported for mares that had a controlled vaginal delivery or cesarean section. Fetotomy performed by a skilled veterinarian on a nonviable fetus should be considered as a means of quick and safe correction of dystocia that does not necessarily impair short-term fertility in affected mares.  相似文献

The association between a number of individual animal and herd level factors and calving problems in beef cows and heifers were examined. Data were from the 1987 calving season for a subset of 123 herds which maintained individual-animal records, from a sample of 180 randomly selected Ontario cow-calf herds. The median herd dystocia rate was 5.8% and 24.4% of herds had no dystocias. The median herd stillbirth rate was 2.8%, and 33.3% of herds had no stillbirths. Dystocias and stillbirths were much more common in heifers than in cows. Separate statistical models of dystocia and stillbirth for cows and heifers were created. Dystocia in cows was associated with calf sex, previous calving assistance and large breed type and birth weight. Variations in 1987 cow herd dystocia rates were associated with calving season, location and density, and the herd dystocia rate in 1986. Dystocia in heifers was associated with large breed type and calf birth weight. Herd-level management practices associated with increased heifer dystocia rates included breeding heifers to calve earlier than cows and rearing heifers together with the cow herd. Stillbirths for both cows and heifers were associated with calving assistance, particularly hard assistance. Herd-level management and other factors were unassociated with stillbirths.  相似文献

Disposition of desfuroylceftiofur acetamide in serum, placental tissue, fetal fluids, and fetal tissues after administration of ceftiofur crystalline free acid (CCFA) to pony mares with placentitis. J. vet. Pharmacol. Therap.  36 , 59–67. The objective of this study was to determine the pharmacokinetics of CCFA in mares with placentitis and evaluate the disposition of the drug in fetal fluids, fetal membranes, colostrum, and serum of foals. A secondary objective was to obtain pilot data regarding the efficacy of CCFA for improving foal survival in mares with placentitis. Twelve pregnant pony mares were enrolled in the study, inoculated with Streptococcus zooepidemicus, intracervically and assigned to one of three groups: CEFT (n = 3; administered CCFA only; 6.6 mg/kg, IM, q96h); COMBO (n = 6; administered combination therapy of CCFA, altrenogest, and pentoxifylline); UNTREAT (n = 3, no treatment). Treatment was initiated at the onset of clinical signs. Concentrations of desfuroylceftiofur acetamide (DCA), the acetamide derivative of ceftiofur and desfuroylceftiofur metabolites, were measured using high‐performance liquid chromatography. Maximum and minimum serum concentrations of DCA at steady state in treated mares were 2.40 ± 0.40 μg/mL and 1.06 ± 0.29 μg/mL, respectively. Concentration of DCA in colostrum was 1.51 ± 0.60 μg/mL. DCA concentrations in placenta and fetal tissues were very low (median = 0.03 μg/mL) and below the minimum inhibitory concentration of relevant pathogens. DCA was not detected in amniotic fluid or foal serum. Treatment did not appear to improve foal survival (CEFT: 0/3; COMBO: 2/6; UNTREAT: 2/3). Bacteria were recovered from the uterus of most mares postpartum and from blood cultures of most foals regardless of treatment.  相似文献

The incidence of dystocias and the calving performance of primiparous Hereford heifers from 2 herds, one with a low (A) and the other a high (B) dystocia history, were compared when all animals were run on the same property in southern Queensland.
The dystocia incidence was 21.4% for Herd A heifers and 40.5% for Herd B heifers (P≅0.10). While Herd A heifers had significantly (P<0.05) heavier calves than Herd B heifers (29.1 v 27.7 kg), the ratio of calf birth weight to dam pelvic brim area was 0.11 kg/cm2 for both groups. Differences in the size of the maternal pelvis, calf oversize and the type of presentation recorded for assisted births did not satisfactorily explain the difference in the incidence of dystocias. The circumstantial evidence indicated that inherent factors may affect dystocia.  相似文献

Reproductive performance and factors that decrease the pregnancy rate in heavy draft horses bred at the foal heat were investigated. The study was based on a total of 422 mares varying from 4 to 20 years in age, which had foaled during the period 1991 to 1994. Over the four years, the percentage of the mares bred at the foal heat was 62.6% and the pregnancy rate was 60.2%. The pregnancy rate following breeding at the foal heat in 1991 (67.7%) was significantly higher than that in 1992 (44.1%). Significant correlation was observed between the pregnancy rate and the mean placental retention time and also between the pregnancy rate and the mean temperature during the winter season. When compared on a monthly basis, the pregnancy rate following breeding at the foal heat in February was 53.3% and in May, 48.2%. The mean number of covers per mare at the foal heat was 2.3; this figure decreased to 1.8 for those bred in May. The mean number of days from parturition to the first breeding date was 11.3 days and the number of days from parturition to the last breeding day at the foal heat was 14.0 days. The number of days from parturition to the last breeding day at the foal heat decreased to 12.5 days in May. The latter may have been influenced by factors involving the stallion. When compared on a monthly basis, the mean placental retention time was longest in January (219 min.) following which it decreased gradually up to mid-summer. The mean placental retention time of mares which were not bred at the foal heat was significantly longer (197 min.) than in mares bred at the foaling heat (143 min.) and also in mares that conceived following breeding at the foal heat (135 min.). The pregnancy rate was less in mares bred shortly after parturition. The findings of this study would suggest that certain factors decrease the pregnancy rate in mares bred at the foal heat. The stress of low temperature in winter, prolonged placental retention time, breeding too early after parturition and factors pertaining to individual stallions may be involved. Expulsion of the placenta as soon as possible after foaling and appropriate breeding timing are significant factors that can influence the pregnancy rate following breeding at the foal heat.  相似文献

This review focuses on the case definition of dystocia, its current prevalence and recent temporal trends, the different types of dystocia and their associated risk factors in dairy cattle. The reported dystocia rates in dairy cattle internationally are generally <5%, apart from those in the United States, where they are higher. Given the skewed distribution of herd dystocia rates, average figures mask high prevalence herds. Phenotypic dystocia trends are generally increasing internationally and this trend has been partially attributed to the introduction of Holstein genes. The principal types of dystocia differ between primiparae and pluriparae, with feto-pelvic disproportion (FPD) predominating in the former and fetal malposition in the latter. In order of importance, the two major determinants of FPD are calf birthweight and maternal pelvic size. Abnormal fetal position is most influenced by the number of fetuses, parity and calf sire breed. Adequate weighting of dystocia in selection indices, achievement of heifer rearing targets prior to both service and calving, and appropriate periparturient management decisions are prerequisites for controlling dystocia in dairy cattle.  相似文献

A surgical technique for removal of one conceptus from mares with twin concepti more than 35 days of gestational age was evaluated. One conceptus was removed surgically from each of 15 mares carrying twin concepti that were 41 to 65 days of gestational age. As determined by ultrasonography, eight mares had bicornuate and seven mares had unicornuate twin concepti. For maintenance of pregnancy if surgical trauma should cause prostaglandin release and luteolysis, progesterone was administered prophylactically. Flunixin meglumine was administered perioperatively to minimize prostaglandin release. Five mares with bicornuate twin concepti delivered a single viable foal; in one mare the fetus was alive 4 days after surgery when the mare was euthanatized because of a fractured femur. None of the remaining feti in the seven mares with unicornuate twin concepti survived. The poor survival rate of unicornuate twin concepti was attributed to disruption of the remaining chorioallantois during surgery. Thirteen mares have been rebred successfully.  相似文献

A retrospective study on the reproductive performance of 401 artificially inseminated trotter mares during six breeding seasons is presented. Mares, 279 post partum (PP) and 122 maiden and barren, or nonlactating (NL), were inseminated with fresh semen obtained from four fertile stallions of the same breed. Pregnancy rate (PR) of mares inseminated at the foal heat (182/253, 71.9%) was lower, but not significantly different, than the PR (22/26, 84.6%) of mares inseminated for the first time at the second post partum cycle and similar to the PR at the first and second cycle of NL mares (95/112, 77.8% and 25/33, 75.7%, respectively). PR of mares inseminated at the foal heat was higher, but nonsignificantly different, from PR of the post partum mares not pregnant after artificial insemination (AI) at foal heat and inseminated again at the following estrous cycle. The PR after AI at the foal heat was significantly higher than the PR when the AI was performed at the third or later cycle in NL mares (71.9% vs 22.2%, P<0.01). The estrus cycle/pregnancy ratio for the PP mares inseminated, for the first time at the foal heat or at the second heat and for NL mares was, respectively, 1.4, 1.2, 1.3 at first cycle and 1.4, 1.3 and 1.4 at the end of the season or when mares left the stud. The proportion of open mares at the end of the season or when leaving the stud was 7.1% (18/253), 3.8% (1/26) and 4.1% (5/122) for PP mares first inseminated at the first or second post partum cycle and for NL mares, respectively; the total rate of open mares was 6% (24/401). The foaling rate (FR) following conception at the foal heat (72.1%) was not statistically different from the FR following conception at any other cycle (50–100%). Based on the absence of significant differences in fertility at the first post partum estrus cycle versus any other estrus cycle, we conclude that breeding at the foal heat should be advisable.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical applications and limitations of daily low-dose oxytocin injections for the induction of parturition in pregnant at term mares, the attention was focussed on the efficacy of the treatment and on its possible negative effects on mare and foal. Three-hundred and fifty pregnant full term Standardbred mares were used: 176 were allowed to foal spontaneously, 174 were treated daily with 3.5 IU of oxytocin i.m. when mammary secretion showed a calcium concentration ≥ 200 ppm. For each mare, gestational length, outcome and duration of foaling, placenta expulsion time were recorded. Physical and behavioural characteristics of each foal were also recorded. Administration of oxytocin resulted in the delivery of a normal foal within 120 min in 68.9% of treated mares: 51.3% responded to the first oxytocin administration, 14.2% to the second and 3.4% to the third. No significant difference between treated and control mares was observed in the gestational length (340 ± 8 days vs 337 ± 7 days), duration of foaling (10 ± 5.6 min vs 11 ± 4.9 min), incidence of dystocia (1.4% vs 1.7%) and failure of rupture of the allantochorion (0% vs 0.6%). No significant difference was observed in the incidence of placental retention between treated and control groups (8.1% vs 6.3%). Physical and behavioural characteristics were normal in foals of both groups. In conclusion, daily injections of low doses of oxytocin in at term mares showed only moderate efficacy for inducing parturition. However, the easy applicability and the complete safety for both mare and foal, of this method of foaling induction makes it a useful tool to simplify the management of mares in commercial stud farms.  相似文献

Objective— To report fertility (foals conceived, live foal births) of mares after partial fetotomy to resolve dystocia and complications associated with fetotomy.
Study Design— Retrospective study.
Animals— Horses (n=20).
Methods— Medical records (2001–2006) of mares that had partial fetotomy (1–3 cuts) for dystocia were reviewed. Complications and subsequent fertility were obtained by interview and live foal data were recorded by the Jockey Club. Postfetotomy conception and live foals produced over 21 breeding seasons (defined as years each mare was bred regardless of conception) were recorded.
Results— Twenty mares were identified. Bilateral carpal flexion alone (3 mares) or in combination with another deformity (7 mares) was the most common presentation for dystocia. From 2001 to 2006, there were 24 breeding seasons for which 20 mares conceived (83%). Eighteen mares conceived before 2006 and all produced live foals. Three mares were bred in 2006; 2 became pregnant, 1 was electively aborted, and 1 is pregnant. Eight of 19 (42%) mares had retained placenta, which were expelled within 24 hours after medical therapy.
Conclusion— Partial fetotomy performed with 1–3 cuts does not impede a successful reproductive future.
Clinical Relevance— In selected equine dystocia cases, partial fetotomy should be given primary consideration when the foal is dead and vaginal delivery cannot be readily achieved. Fetotomy should not adversely affect the future fertility of the mare.  相似文献

The mean incidence of dystocia in 1,510 fine-wool Merino ewes over a ten-year period was 4.1% of ewes lambing. In the 10 year period, 10% of all neonatal mortality was attributed to dystocia and in only 23% of dystocias was lamb presentation abnormal. The incidence of dystocia was not related to age of ewe. Significantly more ewes experienced dystocia at spring than winter (P less than 0.05) or summer (P less than 0.01) lambings. The mean birth weights of dystocic single and twin born lambs were 4.19 and 3.38 kg respectively. The corresponding birth weights of lambs that did not experience dystocia were 3.69 and 3.00 kg. More ewes experienced dystocia when stocked at 12 or 16 per ha than at 8 per ha (P less than 0.05). Fifty per cent of recorded dystocias occurred in ewes stocked at 16 per ha, 40 per cent at 12 per ha and 10 per cent at 8 per ha. Ewe body weight pre-lambing was not related to the incidence of dystocia but it would appear that weaker ewes are more likely to have a difficult birth than ewes that are stronger and in better condition.  相似文献

Two-hundred and seventy-three animals were enrolled in a case-case comparison of uterine torsions and other dystocias. The purpose of the study was to describe field cases of uterine torsion and their clinical management, compare them with other types of dystocia attended by field veterinarians, and evaluate the effect of season and housing on the incidence of torsions. Fifty-five cases of uterine torsions representing 20% of the dystocias were diagnosed. Most cases of uterine torsion were successfully corrected and followed by the vaginal delivery of a live calf. When compared with other types of dystocia, cows were at greater risk for uterine torsion than were heifers (OR = 5.2; P < 0.0001), while animals suffering from fetopelvic disproportion or carrying twins were at a lesser risk (OR = 0.05; P < 0.0001 and OR = 0.09; P = 0.007, respectively). Heifers had a lower risk when calving alone in a pen versus a tie-stall (OR = 0.2, P = 0.04). There was no significant effect of season on the risk of uterine torsion.  相似文献

In one study two cases of premature expulsion of the placenta were recorded among 60 supervised calvings (3.3 per cent); both calves died. In a second study, 47 cases were recorded among 332 cases of perinatal mortality (14.2 per cent). The condition was associated with fetal malpresentation and malposture, and mortality either before or during parturition. There was no significant relationship between the occurrence of premature expulsion of the placenta and parity, calving difficulty, previous calving history or the sex of the calf. The condition in cattle is compared with placenta praevia in women.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of neonatal mortality in a large, extensively managed mare herd and what risk factors were involved in foal mortality. For a 6 wk period between April 18, 1994, and May 31, 1994, 334 foals were born, of which 74 died before reaching 10 d of age, giving an overall mortality of 22% for this period. Seventy four percent of the foal deaths occurred within 48 h of parturition. The major causes of foal mortality included starvation/exposure 27%, septicemia 26%, and dystocia 20%. Weekly incidences varied significantly, ranging from 67% for week 1 to 14% for week 5 (P < 0.01). Other risk factors that were associated with foal death included failure of passive transfer (P < 0.0001), poor mothering ability (P < 0.0001), the presence of dystocia (P < 0.0001), low birth weight (p < 0.05), lack of rainfall (P < 0.01), and low temperatures (P < 0.1). The effect of sire, mare age, mare body condition, and foal sex were not significant risk factors for foal survival (P > 0.1). Further studies are required to determine if changing management procedures will be effective in reducing the incidence of neonatal foal mortality in this extensively managed herd.  相似文献

A complex organ, the equine placenta is responsible for fetal nourishment, protection from external and internal insults, and the production and/or metabolisation of various hormones. The endometrial cups are unique structures of the equine placenta that are responsible for producing an essential hormone for equine pregnancy, equine chorionic gonadotropin. Since mares have epitheliochorial placentae, with 6 layers of tissue separating maternal from fetal circulation, almost the entire surface of the chorioallantois must be attached to the maternal endometrium in order to support a developing fetus adequately. The only avillous areas of the normal chorioallantois are: the cervical star, sites of the endometrial cups, areas facing oviductal papillae, folds overlying major allantoic vessels, and fetal foot PADs (placental areas of degeneration). There are characteristic differences between the gravid and the nongravid horn of the chorioallantois. Allantoic vesicles, allantoic pouches, hippomanes, amniotic plaques and yolk sac remnants are normal features of the equine placenta. The clinician should thoroughly examine the entire placenta immediately after its expulsion. The most important aspect of this evaluation is to check for completeness of the chorioallantois, along with identifying any pathological lesions on the fetal membranes or the umbilical cord.  相似文献

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: The period between the onset of dystocia and its resolution has an important bearing on fetal outcome. There are few published data on which to base decisions regarding optimum management of cases in practice. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate and compare the effects of a coordinated dystocia management protocol (CDMP) with that of a previous protocol of random management on time to resolution and outcome in both an emergency dystocia referral population of mares (referred emergency cases: EM) and in a population of mares residing in hospital due to high risk pregnancy (HRP) concerns that then experience dystocia at parturition. METHODS: Retrospective study performed at a university hospital referral centre of cases presenting from 1991-2004 divided into Group 1 (pre-CDMP) and Group 2 (CDMP). RESULTS: Medical records of 71 cases with dystocia were retrieved and data recorded. For referred emergency cases (EM), time from hospital presentation to resolution decreased significantly by 32 min (P = 0.03) after institution of CDMP. Survival rate of mares at discharge was 86%. Survival of EM foals was low, with 10% in Group 1 and 13% in Group 2, surviving to discharge. For EM foals delivered alive, survival to discharge was 30% and 43% in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. Median Stage II was significantly (P < 0.001) different at 71 and 282 min for EM foals delivered alive vs. those not alive at delivery, respectively. Median duration of Stage II was also significantly (P < 0.001) different between EM foals surviving and not surviving to discharge, at 44 and 249 min, respectively. Survival of HRP dystocia foals to discharge was 79%. CONCLUSIONS: Although CDMP reduced the time from presentation at the hospital to resolution significantly for EM, total duration of Stage II for EM was unchanged, as was foal outcome. POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: Very early referral of mares with dystocia to referral centres with dystocia management protocols may improve fetal outcome as increased duration of Stage II in the horse affects fetal outcome negatively.  相似文献
