A field trial was conducted during the kharif (rainy) seasons of 2002 and 2003 at the Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. The trial was carried out to study the effect of planting methods, sources and levels of nitrogen on soil properties, yield and NPK uptake by rice (Oryza sativa L.) under direct seeded condition. Planting methods significantly influenced the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil. Bulk density (1.385 g cm−3), organic carbon (0.43%) and soil moisture content (15.46%) were higher in zero till seeding plots than rotavator and conventional seeding. However, infiltration rate, soil temperature, pH and electrical conductivity showed a declining trend under this treatment and were found maximum (11.54 mm h−1, 36.21 °C at 55 DAS, 30.65 °C at harvest, 7.59 and 0.47 ds m−1) with conventional seeding. The maximum population of bacteria (25.60 × 105), fungi (14.26 × 104) and azotobactor (10.19 × 103) were found in the plot with zero till seeding while in case of actinomycetes the highest population (25.61 × 105) was found in conventional seeding. Nitrogen sources as well as levels failed to bring about any significant change in the soil properties. The highest grain (3825 kg ha−1) and straw yields (5446 kg ha−1) and N, P, K uptake were recorded in conventional seeding and were found significantly superior to zero till seeding (3144 kg ha−1) but it remained at par with rotavator seeding (3585 kg ha−1). Among the nitrogen sources, neem (Azadirachta indica) coated urea produced significantly higher grain (3761 kg ha−1) and straw yields (5396 kg ha−1) with greater NPK uptake than prilled urea and prilled urea + spent mentha. (The distillation waste of mint (Mentha arvensis) herbage is known as spent mentha.) Application of 150 kg N ha−1 produced maximum grain (3828 kg ha−1) and straw yields (5460 kg ha−1) although it remained at par with 100 kg N ha−1 (3738 and 5393 kg ha−1).  相似文献

Crop water parameters, including actual evapotranspiration, transpiration, soil evaporation, crop coefficients, evaporative fractions, aerodynamic resistances, surface resistances and percolation fluxes were estimated in a commercial mango orchard during two growing seasons in Northeast Brazil. The actual evapotranspiration (Ea) was obtained by the eddy covariance (EC) technique, while for the reference evapotranspiration (E0); the FAO Penman–Monteith equation was applied. The energy balance closure showed a gap of 12%. For water productivity analysis the Ea was then computed with the Bowen ratio determined from the eddy covariance fluxes. The mean accumulated Ea for the two seasons was 1419 mm year−1, which corresponded to a daily average rate of 3.7 mm day−1. The mean values of the crop coefficients based on evapotranspiration (Kc) and based on transpiration (Kcb) were 0.91 and 0.73, respectively. The single layer Kc was fitted with a degree days function. Twenty percent of evapotranspiration originated from direct soil evaporation. The evaporative fraction was 0.83 on average. The average relative water supply was 1.1, revealing that, in general, irrigation water supply was in good harmony with the crop water requirements. The resulting evapotranspiration deficit was 73–95 mm per season only. The mean aerodynamic resistance (ra) was 37 s m−1 and the bulk surface resistance (rs) was 135 s m−1. The mean unit yield was 45 tonne ha−1 being equivalent to a crop water productivity of 3.2 kg m−3 when based on Ea with an economic counterpart of US$ 3.27 m−3. The drawback of this highly productive use of water resources is an unavoidable percolation flux of approximately 300 mm per growing season that is detrimental to the downstream environment and water users.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted at Fort Vermilion (58°23′N 116°02′W), Alberta, to determine phosphorus (P) release patterns from red clover (Trifolium pratense) green manure (GM), field pea (Pisum sativum), canola (Brassica rapa) and monoculture wheat (Triticum aestivum) residues in the 7th and 8th years of conventional and zero tillage. Phosphorus contained in crop residues ranged from 1.5 kg ha−1 in pea to 9.2 kg ha−1 in clover GM, both under zero tillage. The patterns of P release over a 52-week period sometimes varied with tillage, i.e., a greater percentage of GM residue P was released under conventional tillage than under zero tillage in the first 2–10 weeks of residue placement. Wheat residues resulted in net P immobilization under zero tillage, but the amounts immobilized were less than 1 kg ha−1. When net P mineralization occurred, the percentage of P released ranged from 24% of wheat P under conventional tillage to 74% of GM P under conventional tillage. The amounts of P released were 0.4 kg ha−1 from wheat, 0.8 kg ha−1 from canola, 0.4 kg ha−1 from pea and 5.1–5.6 kg ha−1 from clover GM residues. Therefore, only GM residues recycled agronomically significant amounts of P for use by subsequent crops in rotation. Phosphorus release was positively correlated with residue P concentration and negatively correlated with C/P and lignin/P ratios.  相似文献

Experimental data on the sorption isotherms of sesame seed were used to determine the thermodynamic functions (heat of vaporisation, spreading pressure, net integral enthalpy and entropy). The heat of vaporisation decreased with increase in moisture content and approached the latent heat of pure water at moisture content between 18 and 21% dry basis. The spreading pressure increased with increase in water activity and was not significantly affected by temperature. Net integral enthalpy decreased with increase in moisture content, and became asymptotic as the moisture content of 12% was approached. Net integral entropy decreased with increase in moisture content to a minimum value of 0·138 J kg−1K−1 at moisture content of about 3·7%. It then increased with moisture content to a maximum of about 0·63 J kg−1K−1 at about 12% moisture content and thereafter, remained nearly constant.  相似文献

Corn (Zea mays L.) stover removal for biofuel production and other uses may alter soil hydraulic properties, but site-specific information needed to determine the threshold levels of removal for the U.S. Corn Belt region is limited. This study quantified impacts of systematic removal of corn stover on soil hydraulic parameters after 1 year of stover management under no-till (NT) systems. These measurements were made on three soils in Ohio including Rayne silt loam (fine-loamy, mixed, active, mesic Typic Hapludult) at Coshocton, Hoytville clay loam (fine, illitic, mesic Mollic Epiaqualfs) at Hoytville, and Celina silt loam (fine, mixed, active, mesic Aquic Hapludalfs) at South Charleston. Interrelationships among soil properties and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) predictions were also assessed. Earthworm middens, Ksat, bulk density (ρb), soil water retention (SWR), pore-size distribution, and air permeability (ka) were determined for six stover treatments. Stover treatments consisted of removing 0 (T100), 25 (T75), 50 (T50), 75 (T25), 100 (T0) and adding 100 (T200)% of corn stover corresponding to 0, 1.25, 2.50, 3.75, 5.00, and 10.00 Mg ha−1 of stover, respectively. Stover removal reduced the number of middens, Ksat, SWR, and ka, and increased ρb at all sites (P < 0.01). Compared to normal stover treatment (T100), complete stover removal (T0) reduced earthworm middens 6-fold at Coshocton and about 14-fold at Hoytville and Charleston. Geometric mean Ksat decreased from 3.1 to 0.1 mm h−1 at Coshocton, 4.2 to 0.3 mm h−1 at Hoytville, and 4.2 to 0.6 mm h−1 at Charleston while soil ρb increased about 12% in the 0–10-cm depth at Coshocton and Hoytville from T100 to T0. The SWR for T0 was about 70% of that for T100 and 58% of that for T200 at 0 to −6 kPa suctions across sites. The log ka for T200, T100, and T75 significantly exceeded that under T50, T25, and T0 at Coshocton and Charleston. Differences in the number of middens, ρb, SWR, Ksat, and ka between T100 and T200 were not generally significant although the T200 retained slightly more water for the 0 to −100 kPa at Charleston and had higher ka at Hoytville compared to T100. Measured parameters were strongly correlated, and ka was a strong Ksat predictor. Stover harvesting induces rapid changes in soil hydraulic properties and earthworm activity, but further monitoring is needed to ascertain the threshold levels of stover removal for soil-specific conditions.  相似文献

The physical quality of the soil, which creates suitable environment for the availability and uptake of the plant nutrients, is generally ignored. Though the effect of organic manures on soil physical quality has been widely appreciated but that of inorganic fertilizers is studied to a lesser extent. The present study carried out during 2004–2005 aims to characterize the soil physical quality in relation to the long-term (32 years) application of farmyard manure (FYM) and inorganic fertilizers in maize (Zea mays L.) wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cropping system. The treatments during both maize and wheat crops were (i) farm yard manure at 20 Mg ha−1 (FYM), (ii) nitrogen at 100 kg ha−1 (N100), (iii) nitrogen and phosphorus at 100 and 50 kg ha−1 (N100P50) and (iv) nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium at 100, 50 and 50 kg ha−1 (N100P50K50) in addition to (v) control treatment, i.e. without any fertilizer and/or FYM addition. The treatments were replicated four times in randomized block design in a sandy loam (Typic Ustipsament, non-saline, slightly alkaline). Bulk density, organic carbon content, structural stability of soil aggregates and water holding capacity of 0–60 cm soil layer were measured. The application of FYM to maize increased the organic carbon by 16% whereas N100P50K50 increased it by 21%. The increased organic matter with both FYM and N100P50K50 increased the total soil porosity and decreased soil bulk density from that in control plots. The mean weight diameter (MWD) was highest in FYM plots of both maize (0.160 mm) and wheat (0.172 mm) closely followed by that in N100P50K50 plots. The effect of FYM in increasing the MWD decreased with soil depth. The average water holding capacity (WHC) was higher with FYM and N100P50K50 application than that in control plots. The MWD, total porosity, OC content and WHC improved with the application of balanced application of fertilizers. The grain yield and uptake of N, P and K by both maize and wheat were higher with the application of FYM and inorganic fertilizers than in control plots. The uptake of N, P and K increased with the application of FYM and N100P50K50.  相似文献

Rhizosphere soil microbial index of tree species in a coal mining ecosystem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Microbial characterization of the tree rhizosphere provides important information relating to the screening of tree species for re-vegetation of degraded land. Rhizosphere soil samples collected from a few predominant tree species growing in the coal mining ecosystem of Dhanbad, India, were analyzed for soil organic carbon (SOC), mineralizable N, microbial biomass carbon (MBC), active microbial biomass carbon (AMBC), basal soil respiration (BSR), and soil enzyme activities (dehydrogenase, urease, catalase, phenol oxidase, and peroxidase). Among the tree species studied, Aegle marmelos recorded the highest value for MBC (590 mg kg−1), urease (190.5 μg NH4+-N g−1 h−1), catalase (513 μg H2O2 g−1 h−1), dehydrogenase (92.3 μg TPF g−1 h−1), phenol oxidase (0.057 μM g−1 h−1) and BSR/AMBC (0.498 mg CO2-C mg biomass−1 day−1); Tamarindus indica for mineralizable N (69.5 mg kg−1); Morus alba for catalase (513 μg H2O2 g−1 h−1) and phenol oxidase (0.058 μM g−1 h−1); Tectona grandis for peroxidase (0.276 μM g−1 h−1), AMBC/MBC (99.4%), and BSR/MBC (0.108 mg CO2-C mg biomass−1 day−1); Ficus religiosa for AMBC (128.4 mg kg−1) and BSR (12.85 mg CO2-C kg−1 day−1); Eugenia jambolana for MBC/SOC (8.03%); Butea monosoperma for AMBC/SOC (1.32%) and Azadirachta indica for BSR/AMBC (0.1134 mg CO2-C mg biomass−1 day−1). Principal component analysis was employed to derive a rhizosphere soil microbial index (RSMI) and accordingly, dehydrogenase, BSR/MBC, MBC/SOC, EC, phenol oxidase and AMBC were found to be the most critical properties. The observed values for the above properties were converted into a unitless score (0–1.00) and the scores were integrated into RSMI. The tree species could be arranged in decreasing order of the RSMI as: A. marmelos (0.718), A. indica (0.715), Bauhinia bauhinia (0.693), B. monosperma (0.611), E. jambolana (0.601), Moringa oleifera (0.565), Dalbergia sissoo (0.498), T. indica (0.488), Morus alba (0.415), F. religiosa (0.291), Eucalyptus sp. (0.232) and T. grandis (0.181). It was concluded that tree species in coal mining areas had diverse effects on their respective rhizosphere microbial processes, which could directly or indirectly determine the survival and performance of the planted tree species in degraded coal mining areas. Tree species with higher RSMI values could be recommended for re-vegetation of degraded coal mining area.  相似文献

Peatlands cover about 21% of the landscape and contain about 80% of the soil carbon stock in western Canada. However, the current rates of carbon accumulation and the environmental controls on ecosystem photosynthesis and respiration in peatland ecosystems are poorly understood. As part of Fluxnet-Canada, we continuously measured net ecosystem carbon dioxide exchange (NEE) using the eddy covariance technique in a treed fen dominated by stunted Picea mariana and Larix laricina trees during August 2003–December 2004. The total carbon stock in the ecosystem was approximately 51,000 g C m−2, with only 540 g C m−2 contributed by live above ground vegetation. The NEE measurements were used to parameterize simple physiological models to assess temporal variation in maximum ecosystem photosynthesis (Amax) and ecosystem respiration rate at 10 °C (R10). During mid-summer the ecosystem had a relatively high Amax (approx. 30 μmol m−2 s−1) with relatively low R10 (approx. 4 μmol m−2 s−1). The peak mid-day NEE uptake rate during July and August was 10 μmol m−2 s−1. The ecosystem showed large seasonal variation in photosynthetic and respiratory activity that was correlated with shifts in temperature, with both spring increases and fall decreases in Amax well predicted by the mean daily air temperature averaged over the preceding 21 days. Leaf-level gas exchange and spectral reflectance measurements also suggested that seasonal changes in photosynthetic activity were primarily controlled by shifts in temperature. Ecosystem respiration was strongly correlated with changes in ecosystem photosynthesis during the growing season, suggesting important links between plant activity and mycorrhizae and microbial activity in the shallow layers of the peat. Only very low rates of respiration were observed during the winter months. During 2004, the peatland recorded a net annual gain of 144 g C m−2 year−1, the result of a difference between gross photosynthesis of 713 and total ecosystem respiration of 569 g C m−2 year−1.  相似文献

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is an important crop in the southeastern United States, and thus there is a need for additional information on the effects of tillage, weed control methods and row spacing on soybean yields, weed populations and soil properties. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of three weed control methods (none, cultivation, and herbicide) and three row spacings (45, 60 and 90 cm) on soybeans planted in a conventionally prepared seedbed or planted in wheat stubble (no-till (NT)) on a Decatur silty clay loam (Rhodic Paleudult) soil during the 1987 and 1988 growing seasons. Following NT planting, soybean plots produced a seed yield of 3102 kg ha−1 with herbicide, 2911 kg ha−1 with cultivation and 2216 kg ha−1 with no weed control. On a conventionally prepared seedbed, herbicide and cultivation resulted in almost equal seed yields (3898 kg ha−1 and 3954 kg ha−1 respectively) which were significantly higher than those from the no weed control plots (3151 kg ha−1). Soybeans in narrow (45 cm) rows (3997 kg ha−1) consistently out-yielded those in the wider 60 cm rows (3130 kg ha−1) and 90 cm rows (2490 kg ha−1) in both growing seasons, results averaged across years showed that conventionally planted soybeans produced higher yields (3668 kg ha−1) than NT planted soybeans (2743 kg ha−1). The weed infestation was significantly less with herbicide or cultivation than with no weed control and also less in narrow rows (45 cm) than in wider rows (60 and 90 cm). Data on the soil properties (from a depth of 0–15 cm) showed that moisture content, organic matter content and total soil nitrogen were higher in NT plots than in conventional plots. Similarly, disease ratings and infestation of bacterial blight of soybean were significantly higher in NT than in conventional tillage systems.  相似文献

Extraction of protein from the leaves of green plants is very important because of the high cost of conventional forms of protein such as meat, milk and fish. In order to design machinery for this extraction, and also to embark on leaf protein concentrate extraction, it is necessary to measure and analyse the energy requirements to carry out each process involved in the extraction, using different plant species.Experiments were carried out to determine the amount of crude protein, and the thermal energy required to extract leaf protein concentrate, from juices obtained from the leaves of some plant species. Leaves from the following plants were selected: cassava (Manihot esculanta), Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata), bitter leaf (Vernonia amygdalina), gliricidia (Gliricidia maculata) and thorny tree (Hura crepetans). The leaves from the plant species were macerated in a laboratory pulper. Juice was obtained from the samples using perforated cylinders and a hydraulic press. The specific heat capacity of the juices was determined using the cooling curve method. The values of the heat capacities were used to calculate the amount of thermal energy required to raise the temperature of each juice from its normal temperature of about 25°C to a total protein coagulation temperature of about 80°C. The crude protein content of the extract was determined using the Kjeldal method. Results indicate that the green coagulum extracted from all the juices all have a protein content of at least 37%. The thermal energy required to coagulate protein from the juices ranges from 1·59 kJ kg−1 for Hura crepetans to 2·7 kJ kg−1 for Vernonia amygdalina. The energy requirement to obtain crude protein (CP) ranges from 8 kJ kg−1 [CP] with Hura crepetans to 182 kJ kg−1 [CP] with Vernonia amygdalina. Both results are statistically significant at the 0·01 confidence interval. It is concluded that the choice of plant species can significantly lower the thermal energy requirement for the extraction of leaf protein concentrate.  相似文献

The population abundance of free-living and plant-parasitic nematodes was investigated in a long-term rotation/tillage/stubble management experiment at Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute, New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The treatments were a combination of two crop rotations: wheat (Triticum aestivum)–wheat and wheat–lupin (Lupinus angustifolius); two tillage systems: conventional cultivation (CC) and direct drill (DD); and two stubble management practices: stubble retention (SR) and stubble burnt (SB). Plots of one of the wheat–wheat treatments received urea at 100 kg N ha−1 during the cropping season. Soil samples from 0–5 and 5–10 cm depths were collected in September (maximum tillering), October (flowering) and December (after harvest), 2001, to analyse nematode abundance. Soil collected in September was also analysed for concentrations of total and labile C, and pH levels.Three nematode trophic groups, namely bacteria-feeders (primarily Rhabditidae), omnivores (primarily Dorylaimidae excluding plant-parasites and predators) and plant-parasites (Pratylenchus spp. and Paratylenchus spp.) were recorded in each soil sample. Of them, bacteria-feeders (53–99%, population range 933–2750 kg−1 soil) dominated in all soil samples. There was no difference in nematode abundance and community composition between the 0–5 cm and 5–10 cm layers of soil. The mean population of free-living and plant-parasitic nematodes varied significantly between the treatments in all sampling months. In most cases, total free-living nematode densities (Rhabditidae and Dorylaimidae) were significantly (P < 0.001) greater in wheat–lupin rotation than the wheat–wheat rotation irrespective of tillage and stubble management practices. In contrast, a greater population of plant-parasitic nematodes was recorded from plots with wheat–wheat than the wheat–lupin rotation. For treatments with wheat–wheat, total plant-parasitic nematode (Pratylenchus spp. and Paratylenchus spp.) densities were greater in plots without N-fertiliser (295–741 kg−1 soil) than the plots with N-fertiliser (14–158 kg−1 soil).Tillage practices had significant (P < 0.05) effects mostly on the population densities of plant-parasitic nematodes while stubble management had significant effects (P < 0.05) on free-living nematodes. However, interaction effects of tillage and stubble were significant (P < 0.01) for the population densities of free-living nematodes only. Population of Rhabditidae was significantly higher in conventional cultivated plots (7244 kg−1 soil) than the direct drilled (3981 kg−1 soil) plots under stubble retention. In contrast, plots with direct drill and stubble burnt had significantly higher populations of Dorylaimidae than the conventional cultivation with similar stubble management practice. No correlations between abundance of free-living nematodes, and concentration of total C and labile C in soil were observed in this study. These results showed that stubble retention contributed for enormous population density of free-living (beneficial) nematodes while conventional cultivation, irrespective of stubble management, contributed for suppressing plant-parasitic nematodes.  相似文献

To date, tillage erosion experiments in Canada have only been conducted on conventionally tilled corn-based production systems in Ontario and conventionally tilled cereal-based production in Manitoba. Estimates and assumptions have been made for all other production systems. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the erosivity of primary and secondary tillage operations within conventional and conservation potato production systems used in Atlantic Canada. Regression analysis determined that a direct relationship exists between slope gradient and both the mean displacement distance of the tilled layer (TL) and the mass of translocated soil (TM) for the chisel plough (CP), mouldboard plough (MP) and offset disc (OD), but not for the vibrashank (VS). Overall, the potential for tillage erosion of the MP, CP, and OD was similar (1.8–1.9 kg m−1 %−1 pass−1) and larger than that of the VS (0.3 kg m−1 %−1 pass−1). The regression coefficients for each implement were improved after including slope curvature, and we recommend that curvature be included in any future tillage erosion modelling. Our results show that both residue management to control wind and water erosion and soil movement to control tillage erosion must be considered when choosing implements and developing best management practices with regards to reducing the negative impacts of total soil erosion on potato production systems in Atlantic Canada.  相似文献

Continuous half-hourly measurements of soil (Rs) and bole respiration (Rb), as well as whole-ecosystem CO2 exchange, were made with a non steady-state automated chamber system and with the eddy covariance (EC) technique, respectively, in a mature trembling aspen stand between January 2001 and December 2003. Our main objective was to investigate the influence of long-term variations of environmental and biological variables on component-specific and whole-ecosystem respiration (Re) processes. During the study period, the stand was exposed to severe drought conditions that affected much of the western plains of North America. Over the 3 years, daily mean Rs varied from a minimum of 0.1 μmol m−2 s−1 during winter to a maximum of 9.2 μmol m−2 s−1 in mid-summer. Seasonal variations of Rs were highly correlated with variations of soil temperature (Ts) and water content (θ) in the surface soil layers. Both variables explained 96, 95 and 90% of the variance in daily mean Rs from 2001 to 2003. Aspen daily mean Rb varied from negligible during winter to a maximum of 2.5 μmol m−2 bark s−1 (2.2 μmol m−2 ground s−1) during the growing season. Maximum Rb occurred at the end of the aspen radial growth increment and leaf emergence period during each year. This was 2 months before the peak in bole temperature (Tb) in 2001 and 2003. Nonetheless, Rb was highly correlated with Tb and this variable explained 77, 87 and 62% of the variance in Rb in the respective years. Partitioning of Rb between its maintenance (Rbm) and growth (Rbg) components using the mature tissue method showed that daily mean Rbg occurred at the same time as aspen radial growth increment during each growing season. This method led, however, to systematic over- and underestimations of Rbm and Rbg, respectively, during each year. Annual totals of Rs, Rb and estimated foliage respiration (Rf) from hazelnut and aspen trees were, on average, 829, 159 and 202 g C m−2 year−1, respectively, over the 3 years. These totals corresponded to 70, 14 and 16%, respectively, of scaled-up respiration estimates of Re from chamber measurements. Scaled Re estimates were 25% higher (1190 g C m−2 year−1) than the annual totals of Re obtained from EC (949 g C m−2 year−1). The independent effects of temperature and drought on annual totals of Re and its components were difficult to separate because the two variables co-varied during the 3 years. However, recalculation of annual totals of Rs to remove the limitations imposed by low θ, suggests that drought played a more important role than temperature in explaining interannual variations of Rs and Re.  相似文献

In Vertisols of central India erratic rainfall and prevalence of drought during crop growth, low infiltration rates and the consequent ponding of water at the surface during the critical growth stages are suggested as possible reasons responsible for poor yields (<1 t ha−1) of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). Ameliorative tillage practices particularly deep tillage (subsoiling with chisel plough) can improve the water storage of soil by facilitating infiltration, which may help in minimizing water stress in this type of soil. In a 3-year field experiment (2000–2002) carried out in a Vertisol during wet seasons at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, we determined infiltration rate, root length and mass densities, water use efficiency and productivity of rainfed soybean under three tillage treatments consisting of conventional tillage (two tillage by sweep cultivator for topsoil tillage) (S1), conventional tillage + subsoiling in alternate years using chisel plough (S2), and conventional tillage + subsoiling in every year (S3) as main plot. The subplot consisted of three nutrient treatments, viz., 0% NPK (N0), 100% NPK (N1) and 100% NPK + farmyard manure (FYM) at 4 t ha−1 (N2). S3 registered a significantly lower soil penetration resistance by 22%, 28% and 20%, respectively, at the 17.5, 24.5 and 31.5 cm depths over S1 and the corresponding decrease over S2 were 17%, 19% and 13%, respectively. Bulk density after 15 days of tillage operation was significantly low in subsurface (15–30 cm depth) in S3 (1.39 mg m−3) followed by S2 (1.41 mg m−3) and S1 (1.58 mg m−3). Root length density (RLD) and root mass density (RMD) of soybean at 0–15 cm soil depth were greater following subsoiling in every year. S3 recorded significantly greater RLD (1.04 cm cm−3) over S2 (0.92 cm cm−3) and S1 (0.65 cm cm−3) at 15–30 cm depth under this study. The basic infiltration rate was greater after subsoiling in every year (5.65 cm h−1) in relation to conventional tillage (1.84 cm h−1). Similar trend was also observed in water storage characteristics (0–90 cm depth) of the soil profile. The faster infiltration rate and water storage of the profile facilitated higher grain yield and enhanced water use efficiency for soybean under subsoiling than conventional tillage. S3 registered significantly higher water use efficiency (17 kg ha−1 cm−1) over S2 (16 kg ha−1 cm−1) and S1 (14 kg ha−1 cm−1). On an average subsoiling recorded 20% higher grain yield of soybean over conventional tillage but the yield did not vary significantly due to S3 and S2. Combined application of 100% NPK and 4 t farmyard manure (FYM) ha−1 in N2 resulted in a larger RLD, RMD, grain yield and water use efficiency than N1 or the control (N0). N2 registered significantly higher yield of soybean (1517 kg ha−1) over purely inorganic (N1) (1392 kg ha−1) and control (N0) (898 kg ha−1). The study indicated that in Vertisols, enhanced productivity of soybean can be achieved by subsoiling in alternate years and integrated with the use of 100% NPK (30 kg N, 26 kg P and 25 kg K) and 4 t FYM ha−1.  相似文献

Knowledge on anisotropy of saturated hydraulic conductivity can improve the understanding of transport phenomena in soil. We hypothesized that saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) in the upper part of the root zone of an agricultural sandy loam soil was anisotropic at different soil depths and times after tillage. Ks was measured on undisturbed 100 cm3 core samples taken in the horizontal and vertical directions in up to four soil layers (Surf: surface layer (0–5 cm); Top: topsoil (10–15 cm); Trans: transition layer between topsoil and subsoil; Sub: subsoil (40–60 cm)) 1, 8 and 32 months, respectively, after mouldboard ploughing and drilling. The ratio between estimated geometric mean values for Ks in the vertical and the horizontal directions (Kms,v/Kms,h) was used to test the hypotheses. A total of 669 soil samples were analysed.Kms,v/Kms,h varied with time after tillage and between soil layers. One month after ploughing, Kms,v/Kms,h was <0.23 (P = 0.975) in the Trans layer with an average value of 0.084, i.e. Kms,h was 12 times larger than Kms,v. Anisotropy could not be documented in this layer 8 or 32 months after ploughing, i.e. Kms,v/Kms,h was not significantly different from 1.0. For the Surf and Top layers 32 months after ploughing, Kms,v/Kms,h was in the intervals 1.4–50 and 3.1–77, respectively, (P = 0.95) with average values of 8.4 and 15, respectively. Thus, Kms,v was 8.4 respectively 15 times larger than Kms,h in the two layers. Anisotropy was not found in these layers 1 or 8 months after tillage. Strong anisotropy was found in the Sub layer with Kms,v/Kms,h averaging to 14 and 32, respectively, 8 and 32 months after tillage. Kms,v and Kms,h generally decreased with time in the Surf, Top and Trans layers, except in the vertical direction in the Top layer between 8 and 32 months after ploughing, and in the Trans layer between 1 and 8 months after ploughing. Overall, the geometric means of Ks varied between 10−4.0 and 10−7.1 m s−1.The results may reflect systematic effects of soil settlement and drying/wetting phenomena coupled with biological activity and the existence of stable, vertically oriented biopores in the subsoil. It appears to be necessary to consider anisotropy of Ks and its variation in the analysis and modelling of water flow and chemical transport in agricultural soils, particularly to explain heterogeneous flow phenomena at the plot and field scales.  相似文献

The spatial variation of soil erosion and deposition rates was studied in a small catchment cultivated by rainfed agriculture, in the Mouriki area, Viotia Greece, using the 137Cs technique. A 25 m grid was established parallel to the slope and the 137Cs inventories were defined for the grid points. After establishing the local reference inventory, the soil erosion and deposition rates were estimated using the 137Cs residuals for individual points on the grid in conjunction with the four conversion (calibration) models described by Walling and He (2001) [Models for converting 137Cs measurements to estimates of soils redistribution rates on cultivated and uncultivated soils]. The conversion models were validated by means of sensitivity analysis and using local experimental data. The resulting estimates of soil redistribution rates were interpolated by means of kriging, using Surfer Golden software. The magnitude of the soil erosion rates depend on many factors, including the location of the sampling point, the local slope, and the soil properties. The mass balance model 2 (MBM2) and mass balance model incorporating soil movement by tillage (MBM3) conversion models predict soil redistribution rates of the same order of magnitude as the experimental data and are able to take account of Chernobyl fallout. Predicted soil erosion rates for catchment grid varied from 6.71 to 85.55 t ha−1 per year using MBM2 and from 3.54 to 95.78 t ha−1 per year using MBM3. Deposition rates varied from 1.23 to 168.19 t ha−1 per year using MBM2 and from 3.24 to 189.18 t ha−1 per year using MBM3. High correlation was apparent between erosion/deposition rates (MBM2) and soil P (P<0.001), soil K (P<0.001), soil organic matter % (P<0.05), point slope (P<0.05), clay % (P=0.053) and altitude (P=0.057). The total soil losses from the catchment have been estimated at 18.34 t ha−1 per year using MBM2 and 22.12 t ha−1 per year using MBM3.  相似文献

A study was carried out on a previously eroded Oxic Paleustalf in Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria to determine the extent of soil degradation under mound tillage with some herbaceous legumes and residue management methods. A series of factorial experiments was carried out on 12 existing runoff plots. The study commenced in 1996 after a 5-year natural fallow. Mound tillage was introduced in 1997 till 1999. The legumes – Vigna unguiculata (cowpea), Mucuna pruriens and Pueraria phaseoloides – were intercropped with maize in 1996 and 1998 while yam was planted alone in 1997 and 1999. This paper covers 1997–1999. At the end of each year, residues were either burned or mulched on respective plots. Soil loss, runoff, variations in mound height, bulk density, soil water retention and sorptivity were measured. Cumulative runoff was similar among interactions of legume and residue management in 1997 (57–151 mm) and 1999 (206–397 mm). However, in 1998, cumulative runoff of 95 mm observed for Mucuna-burned residue was significantly greater than the 46 mm observed for cowpea-burned residue and the 39–51 mm observed for mulched residues of cowpea, Mucuna and Pueraria. Cumulative soil loss of 7.6 Mg ha−1 observed for Mucuna-burned residue in 1997 was significantly greater than those for Pueraria-mulched (0.9 Mg ha−1) and Mucuna-mulched (1.4 Mg ha−1) residues whereas in 1999 it was similar to soil loss from cowpea treatments and Pueraria-burned residue (2.3–5.3 Mg ha−1). There were no significant differences in soil loss in 1998 (1–3.2 Mg ha−1) whereas Mucuna-burned residue had a greater soil loss (28.6 Mg ha−1) than mulched cowpea (6.9 Mg ha−1) and Pueraria (5.4 Mg ha−1). Mound heights (23 cm average) decreased non-linearly with cumulative rainfall. A cumulative rainfall of 500 mm removed 0.3–2.3 cm of soil from mounds in 1997, 3.5–6.9 cm in 1998 and 2.3–4.6 cm in 1999, indicating that (detached but less transported) soil from mounds was far higher than observed soil loss in each year. Soil water retention was improved at potentials ranging from −1 to −1500 kPa by Mucuna-mulched residue compared to the various burned-residue treatments. Also, mound sorptivity at −1 cm water head (14.3 cm h−1/2) was higher than furrow sorptivity (8.5 cm h−1/2), indicating differences in hydraulic characteristics between mound and furrow. Pueraria-mulched residues for mounds had the highest sorptivity of 17.24 cm h−1/2, whereas the least value of 6.96 cm h−1/2 was observed in furrow of Mucuna-burned residue. Pueraria phas eoloides was considered the best option for soil conservation on the previously eroded soil, cultivated with mound tillage.  相似文献

Appropriate cultural practices need to be determined for enhancing crop yields with low inputs under rainfed conditions. A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of tillage practices and fertilizer levels on yield, nitrogen (N) uptake and carbon (C) isotope discrimination in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown under semi-arid conditions at three sites in north-west Pakistan: NIFA, Urmar and Jalozai. Two fertilizer levels, 60 kg N ha−1+30 kg P ha−1 (L1) and 60 kg N ha−1+60 kg P ha−1 (L2), were applied to wheat grown under conventional tillage (T1) and no-tillage (T0) practices. Labeled urea having 1% 15N atom excess at 60 kg N ha−1 was applied as aqueous solution in microplots within each treatment plot. A pre-sowing irrigation of 60 mm was applied and during the growing season, the crop relied entirely on rainfall (268 mm). Biomass yield, N uptake and stable C isotope composition (δ13C) of plants were determined at maturity. Yield of wheat was improved by tillage at two sites (Sites 1 and 2), while at the third site yield was reduced by tillage as compared with the no-tillage treatment. At Sites 1 and 2, nutrient addition (L2, 60 kg N ha−1+60 kg P ha−1) increased the yield of all plant parts (straw, grain and root) in contrast to Site 3 where only grain yield was increased significantly. Maximum grain yield of wheat was observed with tillage under nutrient level L2 at all sites. Generally, the tillage treatment did not affect the N content in plant parts compared with no-tillage (T0) treatment at all three sites. However, fertilizer N uptake by wheat was variable under different fertilizer levels and tillage practices. Nitrogen derived from fertilizer (Ndff) for grain at Site 2 was higher in tilled plots but was not affected by tillage practice at the other sites. The C isotope (δ13C) values varied from −28.96 to −26.03‰ under different treatments at the three sites. The δ13C values were less negative indicating more effective water use at Sites 2 and 3 compared to Site 1. The C isotope discrimination (Δ) values were positively correlated with yield of wheat straw (r=0.578*), grain (r=0.951**) and root (r=0.583*). Further, the Δ in grain had significant negative relationship (r=0.912**) with Ndff (%). The tillage practice exerted a positive effect on yield, N uptake and plant N derived from fertilizer by wheat compared to no-tillage. The positive correlation of Δ with grain, straw and root yields and negative correlation with the Ndff (%) by wheat suggest that this value (Δ) could be used to predict these parameters. However, further studies on different crops under varied environmental conditions are necessary.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the spatial variability of the activity of three hydrolytic enzymes, i.e. urease activity (UAc), alkaline phosphatase activity (APAc), and arylsulfatase activity (ASAc), in pasture topsoils using geostatistics. Enzyme activities along a transect in a 1.35-ha pasture were determined using 77 soil samples from the upper 20 cm of soil. UAc varied from 101.0 to 182.7 μg N g−1 soil h−1; APAc varied from 1.56 to 3.62 μg p-nitrophenol g−1 soil h−1; and ASAc varied from 1.50 to 3.26 μg p-nitrophenol g−1 soil h−1. The linear models fit the best semivariogram models for UAc, APAc, and ASAc. Semivariograms for enzyme activities exhibited spatial dependence with ranges of influence of approximately 124.7 m.  相似文献

One of the key issues to increase soil productivity in the Sahel is to ensure water infiltration and storage in the soil. We hypothesised that reducing tillage from annual to biennial ploughing and the use of organic matter, like compost, would better sustain soil hydraulic properties. The study had the objective to propose sustainable soil fertility management techniques in the cotton–maize cropping systems. The effects of reduced tillage (RT) and annual ploughing (AP) combined with compost application (Co) on soil infiltration parameters were assessed on two soil types. Topsoil mean saturated hydraulic conductivities (Ks) were between 9 and 48 mm h−1 in the Luvisol, while in the Lixisol they were between 18 and 275 mm h−1. In the two soil types compost additions with reduced tillage or with annual ploughing had the largest effect on Ks. Soil hydraulic behaviour was in reasonable agreement with soil pore size distribution (mean values varied from 19.5 to 237 μm) modified by tillage frequency and organo-mineral fertilization. Already the first 3 years of this study showed that use of organic matter, improved soil infiltration characteristics when annual ploughing was used. Also biennial ploughing showed promising results and may be a useful strategy for smallholders to manage these soils.  相似文献
