Six entire male rabbits, between four and eight years old, were presented with a fluctuant scrotal and/or inguinal swelling resulting from inguinal herniation of the urinary bladder. Concurrent problems included urinary sediment (two rabbits), multiple uroliths (one rabbit) and testicular tumour (one rabbit). All rabbits underwent herniorrhaphy surgery. There was a successful outcome in four of the six cases.  相似文献

A 9-month-old intact male guinea pig was presented with a 2-week history of progressive swelling involving the right scrotal sac. Physical examination revealed a soft mass involving the caudal aspect of the right scrotal sac. Subsequent radiographic evaluation of the affected area confirmed a soft tissue subcutaneous swelling. Ultrasonography revealed a hyperechogenic homogenous structure with normal hemodynamic pattern within the right scrotum, and an enlarged right inguinal ring measuring 8 to 9 mm. Exploratory laparotomy confirmed a right seminal vesicle herniation into the scrotum. The vesicle was reduced into the abdominal cavity, after which an abdominal castration and inguinal herniorrhaphy were performed. Five months postsurgery the patient was doing well without recurrence of herniation.  相似文献

A 7-month-old Hampshire ram, with no history of trauma or breeding, was referred for treatment of acute, unilateral scrotal swelling. Physical examination revealed a moderately sized, soft, left-sided, non-reducible swelling of the proximal scrotum and mild swelling of the scrotal neck. Ultrasound evaluation of the scrotum revealed morphologically normal testicles and a mild accumulation of free fluid in the left vaginal tunic. Unilateral, laparoscopic inguinal herniorrhaphy under general anesthesia was performed. The herniated omentum was reduced and barbed suture was used to imbricate the internal inguinal ring and the vaginal ring. No recurrence of herniation was reported 5 months after surgery.Key clinical message:Laparoscopic inguinal herniorrhaphy with barbed suture can be a safe and effective means of scrotal hernia resolution in a ram. When performed by a competent surgeon experienced in laparoscopy, this treatment for inguinal and scrotal herniation may minimize post-operative pain, provide a rapid return to function, and preserve normal testicular and scrotal anatomy.  相似文献

A 4-month-old intact female domestic rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) was evaluated for a recent onset of lethargy, anorexia, foul-smelling red urine, diarrhea, and a soft subcutaneous swelling in the inguinal region. Physical examination confirmed the presence of a flocculent subcutaneous swelling in the ventral pelvic region. Whole body radiographs showed an approximately 5 × 3.5 × 3.5 cm structure of mineral opacity within the subcutaneous tissues ventral to the pelvic girdle. Cytology of fluid aspirated from the mass and an excretory urogram supported the diagnosis of a herniation of the urinary bladder through the right caudoventral abdominal body wall. The hernia was successfully repaired with an inguinal herniorrhaphy and replacement of the bladder within the abdominal cavity. The etiology of this herniation could not be definitively determined but was likely congenital or non-traumatically acquired in origin. This is the first published report describing the surgical repair of an inguinal herniation and incarceration of the urinary bladder in an intact female rabbit.  相似文献

Herniation of the urinary bladder in the inguinal region has not previously been described in the horse. A case of inguinal rupture with herniation of the bladder through the scrotal fascia in a 3‐month‐old Shetland pony, diagnosed by external palpation, urinary catheterisation and external ultrasonographic examination is reported. Surgical management of the case was by dissection of the scrotal fascia, partial cystectomy and unilateral castration. During the period of hospitalisation the only complication was a slight seroma, which resolved spontaneously. Follow‐up after 6 months did not reveal any abnormality.  相似文献

Two sexually intact adult male chinchillas were presented with a swelling in the perineal region. Radiographically both masses had a soft tissue opacity. Ultrasonography confirmed the tentative diagnosis of perineal hernia. In the first case the ultrasonographic examination revealed a fluid-filled structure inside the swelling, which was determined to be the urinary bladder. In the second case the hernia sac was filled with homogeneous tissue, belived to be fat. Subsequently, unilateral perineal herniorrhaphies including an internal obturator muscle flap transposition technique were performed. Both chinchillas recovered well with subsequent uneventful healing of the surgical sites. No long-term complications or recurrences of the perineal hernias were reported. This clinical report shows that perineal hernias occur in chinchillas and can be surgically treated with success.  相似文献

Tumours are rare in the bovine testicle. A case of malignant Sertoli cell tumour in a 29‐month‐old Simmenthal bull that was hospitalized with a history of severe unilateral scrotal swelling is reported. On inspection and palpation, the scrotal sac was found enlarged with fluctuant content in the right side. The right testicle was enlarged, hard and indolent. Also the right plexus pampiniformis and funiculus spermaticus were enlarged. Sonograms revealed severe changes in the right testicle with a loss of homogeneity and multiple hyperechogenic areas. After slaughter, the scrotum with testicles were removed and evaluated pathologically. On section, the right testicle contained areas of necrosis, haemorrhage, and mineralization. Histology showed Sertoli cells in tubular structures surrounded by dense fibrous stroma replacing normal testicular tissue. Both lymphatic and blood vessels were infiltrated by neoplastic cells. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells stained positive for vimentin and negative for cytokeratin and S‐100. Based on the pathological observations a diagnosis of right‐sided malignant Sertoli cell tumour with vascular invasion and hydrocele was established.  相似文献

A 5-year-old, sexually intact poodle bitch was presented with a 2-year history of inguinal mass. A tentative diagnosis of hydrometra/mucometra with inguinal herniation was made and ovariohysterectomy with hernia repair was performed. Both fluid-filled uterine horns, both broad ligaments, and the uterine body were observed to be herniated through the inguinal ring. On histopathology, marked edema and diffuse hemorrhage were diagnosed in the uterus.  相似文献

Fourteen horses and one pony, 1 to 16 years of age, were castrated with a technique designed to promote primary healing and ablation of the scrotum following removal of descended testicles. Twenty-six testicles (10 nondescended, 15 normal descended testicles, and 1 neoplastic descended testicle) were removed. Nondescended testicles were removed through a skin incision over the external inguinal ring. Descended testicles were removed, and the scrotum was ablated by excision of the ventral scrotum. All testicles were removed by emasculation. The common vaginal tunic was not opened prior to emasculation of the descended testicles, and transfixation liqation sutures were used in only two horses. All incisions were closed with multiple layers of synthetic absorbable sutures in the subcutaneous and subcuticular tissues. All incisions healed by primary intention, and 14 recovered without complications. As a result of incomplete scrotal ablation, one horse had temporary lameness and swelling of the scrotal area that resembled the presurgical appearance.  相似文献

A 3-year-old Gypsy Vanner colt was presented at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine for castration. The left testicle of the horse was present within the scrotum, but neither the right testicle nor the epididymis was found during external palpation of the right inguinal ring. Removal of the retained testicle by a routine inguinal approach by traction on the gubernaculum and dilation of the internal inguinal ring was not possible. During a parainguinal approach to the abdomen, an enlarged cystic testicle was discovered. Histopathologic diagnosis was cystic rete testis. This case report stresses the importance of preoperative ultrasonographic assessment of cryptorchid testicles to decrease surgical time.  相似文献

A 16-year-old thoroughbred stallion developed sudden swelling of the left testicle. The stallion had previously been regarded as a unilateral cryptorchid. Ultrasound examination of the left testicle revealed a diffusely heterogeneous parenchyma. The testicle was diffusely hypoechoic with ill defined regions of hyperechogenicity giving the appearance of hypoechoic nodules throughout the testicular parenchyma. No normal testicular tissue was identifiable. An echogenic band, representing a pseudocapsule could be seen surrounding the testicle. Histopathologic diagnosis a seminoma.  相似文献

This case describes the presentation and management of an 8 yr old phenotypically female intersex male dog presented for evaluation of a mass in the right inguinal region. The right inguinal space was surgically explored, and a large irregular mass resembling a fully developed testicle was identified in the right vaginal tunic. A second mass resembling an atrophied, but anatomically mature testicle, was identified in the left tunic. The larger mass was identified as a Sertoli cell tumor that had replaced all normal testicular tissue. The smaller mass was identified as a testicle that contained a small intratubular seminoma. The patient was diagnosed as having a phenotypic female sex, chromosomal male sex, and a gonadal male sex. Hormone assays completed before and after the gonadectomy and mass removal document an elevation of circulating progesterone presurgically that returned to baseline by 1 mo postsurgically. The source of the progesterone was identified to be the Leydig cells of the atrophied testicle.  相似文献

Objective: To describe a unique case of pyometra with inguinal herniation of the left uterine horn and omentum. Case summary: A 7‐year‐old, 19 kg, intact female Beagle dog presented for surgical treatment of presumptive pyometra and biopsy of a caudal abdominal mass in the left inguinal mammary gland region. Ventral midline celiotomy was performed, and a distended, fluid‐filled uterus with passage of the distal aspect of the left uterine horn through the left vaginal process into the inguinal canal was identified. The patient recovered uneventfully following ovariohysterectomy and left inguinal herniorrhaphy. New or unique information provided: This is the first documented report of inguinal herniation of a uterine horn associated with a pyometra.  相似文献

An adult, intact male alpaca was presented with an acute onset of unilateral scrotal swelling. Following complete physical and ultrasonographic examination, the most likely differential diagnoses were orchitis, hematoma, and testicular torsion. The animal was castrated and histopathologic evaluation revealed unilateral orchitis. Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus was cultured.  相似文献

Background: Testicular torsion is a relatively common complication of cryptorchidism in domestic mammals but is currently unreported in rabbits. Case presentation: A 7-year-old Dutch rabbit was examined for sudden anorexia and lethargy. The rabbit was previously diagnosed with unilateral cryptorchidism 5 years earlier; however, the owner declined surgical treatment at that time. Transabdominal ultrasonography showed a structure consistent with an enlarged testis, with decreased echogenicity, and absent blood flow upon color Doppler ultrasonography. After induction of general anesthesia and during preparation for surgery, the patient had an episode of cardiac arrest. After successful resuscitation, bilateral cryptorchidectomy continued as planned. A ventral midline laparotomy was performed and confirmed presence of an enlarged, dark red left testicle torsed on its spermatic cord. The contralateral testicle was atrophic. Both testicles were removed after standard hemostasis. Recovery was uncomplicated. Histopathologic examination revealed a diagnosis of Sertoli cell tumor and extensive hemorrhage and necrosis in the torsed testicle. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance: Based on literature search, this is the first reported case of intra-abdominal torsion of a neoplastic testicle in a cryptorchid rabbit. Early elective cryptorchidectomy before the potential development of life-threating complications may be beneficial in rabbits as in other species.  相似文献

A two-year-old, castrated male Main Coon cat was referred because of chronic, recurrent pollakiuria, haematuria, and acute vomiting. On clinical examination, a smooth, soft-tissue mass, suspected to be the urinary bladder, was palpable outside of the abdominal wall in the inguinal area. On radiographs, the urinary bladder was found to be extra-abdominal, and herniated through an enlarged right inguinal canal at exploratory coeliotomy. The left inguinal canal was also enlarged. The urinary bladder was repositioned and fixed to the caudal abdominal wall by incisional cystopexy and both enlarged inguinal canals were partially closed with an interrupted suture pattern.  相似文献

A male 8-year-old Yorkshire Terrier dog with unilateral cryptorchism was presented for investigation of reduced appetite and multifocal alopecia. Abdominal sonography and radiography demonstrated abnormal enlargement of left testicle in abdominal cavity. Both of the retroperitoneal cryptorchid testicle and the other contralateral testicle were removed surgically. The concentrations of testosterone and estradiol in blood collected from the jugular vein and the two spermatic veins were evaluated and the results revealed high estradiol concentration. The retroperitoneal cryptorchid testicle was enlarged, firm, bulging sphere mass. The cut surface revealed homogeneous white color and lobulation by septa. The contralateral testicle in scrotum showed atrophic testicle and enlarged epididymis. Histopathologically, the retroperitoneal cryptorchid testicle was diagnosed as seminoma. We thought that hyperesterogenemia and alopecia in this case was probably related with his seminoma, although high correlations between Sertoli cell tumor and alopecia have been reported. To our knowledge, this report may be a rare case of seminoma with hyperesterogenemia and alopecia.  相似文献

Tissue considered to be testicle was removed from the scrotum of a horse considered previously to be cryptorchid. Close anatomical inspection after emasculation revealed the presence of the vas deferens, intact epididymis, pampiniform plexus, and a severely atrophic testicle. Histologic examination of the tissue confirmed the presence of an atrophic testicle. Accurate anatomic identification at the time of surgery prevented the need for exploration of the inguinal canal or abdomen.  相似文献

This report details a rare case of diffuse bilateral scrotal neurofibroma complicated by hindlimb paralysis in a rabbit. The animal was evaluated for unusual bilateral scrotal enlargement. After physical examination, ultrasound scan, radiography, computed tomography and laparoscopy, surgical exploration of the scrotum was undertaken. A homogeneous rubbery firm mass was revealed in contact with the subcutaneous tissue expanding to the entire scrotum without involving the testicles. The mass was excised and diagnosed as diffuse scrotal neurofibroma based on histological and immunohistochemical findings (S‐100 antibody positive). Over the following month, progressive neurological signs (faecal incontinence, flaccid bladder and hindlimb paralysis) were observed. After excluding central nervous system infection with Encephalitozoon cuniculi, expansion of the neurofibroma to the vertebral canal causing compression of the spinal cord was suspected, although not histopathologically verified.  相似文献

A 12‐year‐old Peruvian Paso stallion was examined for scrotal swelling and unilateral testicular enlargement of 4–6 weeks duration. Physical examination and ultrasonography of the scrotum revealed an enlarged, nonpainful right testis with a well encapsulated mass at the cranial‐medial aspect containing echodense flocculent material. Unilateral castration was performed and the testis, spermatic cord and vaginal tunic were submitted for histological examination, which revealed a mastocytoma with accompanying evidence of malignancy. Short‐term follow‐up examination did not reveal any evidence of abdominal metastasis and the stallion has since successfully achieved pregnancy in a small number of mares. Although considered rare, mast cell neoplasia should be considered as a differential diagnosis when unilateral testicular enlargement is encountered.  相似文献
