Plant growth regulators (PGRs) are used to increase berry size in table grapes. The objective in this study was to determine if the levels of PGRs used commercially affected rachis postharvest quality. Three seedless table grape cultivars, ‘Mystery’, ‘Superior’, and ‘Crimson’ were treated with gibberellin (GA), cytokinin (CPPU), or both at berry diameter of 6–8 mm, while a seeded cultivar, ‘Redglobe’ was treated at 13 mm. The fruits were harvested at commercial maturity and held for 7 days shelf-life either immediately after harvest or after 2 weeks storage at 0 °C. The combination of GA and CPPU increased berry weight and diameter, and rachis diameter in all three seedless cultivars, but had minor or no effect on TSS and acidity. Rachis quality was measured by a browning scale derived from image analysis. Browning was lower after storage for rachis of ‘Mystery’ treated with GA, while the other three cultivars showed no difference between PGR treated and control rachis. Reduction of water loss by covering punnets of control clusters with microperforated film had a significant positive effect on decreasing weight loss in all cases and a positive effect on slowing rachis browning. Calculation of the shelf-life required to reach 50% rachis browning found that shelf-life was longer for the microperforated packaging as compared to open packages in all the cultivars, with stronger influence during shelf-life after storage than shelf-life after harvest. However, the data also indicated that rachis browning cannot only be attributed to weight loss, either from the whole cluster or from the rachis.  相似文献

The efficacy of three methods of applying ethanol to prevent storage decay was tested on two cultivars of table grapes, ‘Superior’ and ‘Thompson Seedless’. Ethanol was applied by: (1) dipping grapes in 50% ethanol for 10 s followed by air drying before packaging; (2) placing a container with a wick and 4 or 8 ml ethanol/kg grapes inside the package; (3) applying 4 or 8 ml ethanol/kg grapes to paper and placing this paper above the grapes in the package. The grapes were stored for 6 or 8 weeks at 0 °C and assessed after an additional 3 days at 20 °C. All methods of application controlled decay as well as or better than a SO2-releasing pad. The ethanol impregnated paper caused high levels of berry browning, perhaps because of high levels of acetaldehyde inside the package. However, the taste of the berries was not impaired by any of the ethanol applications. The taste of ‘Thompson Seedless’ grapes stored for 8 weeks in modified atmosphere storage was affected by CO2 levels above 7%. Some methods of applying ethanol used here show promise as alternatives to SO2 to prevent decay of grapes during storage while maintaining fruit quality.  相似文献

The potential of humidifying cold storage rooms to control moisture loss and quality of table grapes in different package designs was studied. Fruit were stored in cold rooms (−0.33 ± 0.32 °C or −0.12 ± 0.32 °C) with humidifier (95.0% RH) or no humidification (90.3% RH) respectively. Room humidification resulted in a 7.5% and 9.0% increase in RH inside the clamshell and open-top punnets multi-scale packages respectively in comparison to non-humidified storage, while there was no significant change in RH inside the 4.5 kg carry bag multi-packaging. The grapes were assessed for weight loss and SO2 injury at intervals during a 35 d period. After 21 d of cold storage under humidification, weight loss of grapes was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in packages with open-top punnets than clamshell punnets and carry-bags. After 35 days in non-humidified cold storage, grape weight losses were 1.45 ± 0.32%, 1.62 ± 0.21% and 2.01 ± 0.57% for the 4.5 kg carry-bag, 5 kg clamshell punnet and 5 kg open-top multi-packages, respectively. When fruit were stored inside the same types of multi-packages under humidification, the corresponding weight losses were 0.97 ± 0.34%, 1.08 ± 0.27% and 2.00 ± 0.57%. Cold storage humidification reduced the rate of stem dehydration and browning; however, it increased the incidence of SO2 injury in table grape bunches and caused wetting of the packages.  相似文献

Over 54,600 ha of table grapes (Vitis vinifera), mainly cvs. ‘Thompson Seedless’, ‘Flame Seedless’ and ‘Redglobe’, are planted in Chile. Almost the entire production is exported to the USA, Europe, Asia, or one of several Latin American countries, which typically requires 15–40 d of maritime transportation. During this period, several physical, physiological, and pathological factors cause table grape deterioration. Because berry size is the main quality factor in international markets, farmers often overuse the growth regulators, gibberellic acid (GA3) and forchlorfenuron (CPPU), in an effort to increase berry size. We examined the effect of preharvest growth regulators on seedless (‘Thompson Seedless’, and ‘Ruby Seedless’) and seeded (‘Redglobe’) table grape cultivars during cold (0 °C) storage plus a shelf life period of 3 d at 20 °C. The overuse of GA3, eight instead of two GA3 applications on Thompson Seedless, and the use of one GA3 application on Redglobe and ‘Ruby Seedless’, increased berry pedicel thickness and lowered cuticle content but induced shatter and predisposed grapes to gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea. In contrast, CPPU increased berry pedicel thickness and cuticle content but did not increase shatter or gray mold incidence. Clusters that were subjected to overuse of combined GA3 and CPPU were highly sensitive to shatter, had the thickest pedicel, and developed a high gray mold incidence during cold storage. Hairline, a fine cracking developed during cold storage, was induced on ‘Thompson Seedless’ and ‘Ruby Seedless’ by growth regulators, but no hairline occurred on ‘Redglobe’ table grapes. Therefore, berry quality during cold storage is greatly influenced by growth regulator management in the vineyard.  相似文献

Freshly cut slices of apple (Malus x domestica Borkh cv. Granny Smith) were fumigated with nitric oxide (NO) gas at concentrations between 1 and 500 μl l−1 in air at 20 °C for up to 6 h followed by storage at 0, 5, 10 and 20 °C in air. Exposure to nitric oxide delayed the onset of browning on the apple surface with the most effective treatment being fumigation with 10 μl l−1 NO for 1 h. While nitric oxide inhibited browning in slices held at all temperatures, it was relatively more effective as the storage temperature was reduced with the extension in postharvest life over the respective untreated slices increasing from about 40% at 20 °C to about 70% at 0 °C. In a smaller study on ‘Royal Gala’, ‘Golden Delicious’, ‘Sundowner’, ‘Fuji’ and ‘Red Delicious’ slices stored at 10 °C, 10 μl l−1 NO for 1 h was found to be effective in inhibiting surface browning in all cultivars.  相似文献

Persimmon production in Brazil is concentrated from February to June. The large amount of this fruit available in the market influences its price during this period. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of different packaging plastic materials on extending the storage life of ‘Fuyu’ persimmons kept under refrigeration. ‘Fuyu’ persimmon fruits were harvested on the mature-green stage and enclosed in groups of three (750 ± 30 g) in different packaging materials: 58-μm multilayer polyolephynic film (PO); 50-μm low density polyethylene film (LDPE) and 38-μm microperforated PO. Unpacked fruit stored in corrugated cardboard boxes were used as control. Fruit were stored at 1 ± 1 °C/90 ± 5% RH for 90 d. Every 7 d, five replicates of each treatment were evaluated for headspace gas composition (O2, CO2) and then transferred to 25 ± 1 °C/70 ± 5% RH for five more days. Then they were evaluated as to headspace gas composition (O2, CO2, acetaldehyde and ethanol), firmness, weight loss, skin and flesh color, total soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH, decay, discoloration and sensory attributes. The gas composition in the steady-state established in the 58-μm PO and 50-μm LDPE films extended the storage period up to 84 d at 1 °C plus 5 d at 25 °C differing significantly (P  0.05) from the control fruit as well as from those in the 38-μm microperforated PO, which were stored for 21 and 28 d, respectively. Off-flavors were not detected by sensory analysis. These results suggest that the 58-μm PO and 50-μm LDPE films are suitable for atmosphere modification and packaging of ‘Fuyu’ persimmon fruit stored under refrigeration with an additional period of time at ambient temperature.  相似文献

To control postharvest decay, table grapes are commercially fumigated with sulfur dioxide. We evaluated ozone (O3) fumigation with up to 10,000 μL L?1 of ozone for up to 2 h to control postharvest gray mold of table grapes caused by Botrytis cinerea. Fumigation for 1 h with 2500 or 5000 μL L?1 of ozone were equal in effectiveness. Both treatments reduced postharvest gray mold among inoculated ‘Thompson Seedless’ grapes by approximately 50% when the grapes were examined after storage for 7 d at 15 °C following fumigation. In a similar experiment, ‘Redglobe’ grapes were stored for 28 d at 0.5 °C following fumigation for 1 h with 2500 or 5000 μL L?1 of ozone. Both treatments were equal in effectiveness, but inferior to fumigation with 10,000 μL L?1. Ozone was effective when grapes were inoculated and incubated at 15 °C up to 24 h before fumigation. The cluster rachis sustained minor injuries in some tests, but berries were never harmed. Ozone was applied in three combinations of time and ozone concentration (10,000 μL L?1 for 30 min, 5000 μL L?1 for 1 h, and 2500 μL L?1 for 2 h) where each had a constant concentration × time product (c × t) of 5000 μL L?1 × h. The effectiveness of each combination was similar. The incidence of gray mold was reduced by approximately 50% among naturally inoculated, organically grown ‘Autumn Seedless’ and ‘Black Seedless’ table grapes, and by 65% among ‘Redglobe’ table grapes, when they were fumigated with 5000 μL L?1 ozone for 60 min in a commercial ozone chamber and stored for 6 weeks at 0.5 °C. Residues of fenhexamid, cyprodinil, pyrimethanil, and pyraclostrobin were reduced by 68.5, 75.4, 83.7, and 100.0%, respectively, after a single fumigation of table grapes with 10,000 μL L?1 ozone for 1 h. Residues of iprodione and boscalid were not significantly reduced. Ozone is unlikely to replace sulfur dioxide treatments in conventional grape production unless its efficacy is improved, but it could be an acceptable technology to use with grapes marketed under “organic” classification, where the use of SO2 is prohibited, or if SO2 use were to be discontinued.  相似文献

Investigations were carried out to verify the potential of putrescine and spermidine as a postharvest dip treatment for maintaining quality and extending storage life of table grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Flame Seedless during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Grape clusters were manually harvested at the commercial mature stage and were dipped in different concentrations (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mM) of putrescine and spermidine, and then stored at 3–4 °C, and 90–95% RH. Evaluation of physico-chemical parameters and other fruit quality attributes were made at 0 day (before treatment) and at 30, 45, 60 and 75 days of storage. Putrescine and spermidine at the lowest dose (0.5 mM) effectively maintained berry firmness, peel colour (L*, C*, h°) and stabilized anthocyanins as well as suppressing the activity of pectin methylesterase and reducing the rate of electrolyte leakage. The polyamines also retarded the degradation of TSS and TA while maintaining higher total phenol content and reduced decay incidence. Putrescine and spermidine at 1.0 mM exhibited almost similar effects with a 0.5 mM dose. The highest doses (1.5 mM) of both polyamines showed detrimental effects, especially on weight loss, decay incidence, rachis browning and organoleptic properties, as found in the control group, which was commercially acceptable only up to 45 days. Furthermore, analysis of linear regressions and correlations showed that many quality parameters were interdependent. The postharvest dip treatment of spermidine or putrescine at a dose of 0.5 mM for 5 min could be an effective means for prolonging storage and increasing shelf-life of ‘Flame Seedless’ grapes.  相似文献

Experiments of initial hermetic sealing using high barrier film were carried out on ‘Kyoho’ grapes (Vitis vinifera L. × V. Labrusca L. cv. Kyoho) in the 2008 and 2009 fruit seasons, to investigate their potential to enhance quality and extend storage life of the fruit. In the 2008 season, grapes were packaged in high barrier film bags for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 weeks, and a modified atmosphere (MA) of low oxygen and high carbon dioxide was formed after sealing. After packaging, fruit were removed from bags and stored in air for up to 90 d at 0 °C. In the 2009 season, grapes were packaged in perforated bags, or in high barrier film bags for 2 weeks and subsequently perforated bags to avoid further anoxia and excessive CO2 accumulation. After treatment, fruit were stored for up to 90 d at 0 °C, followed by shelf-life at 20 °C for 7 d. Non-packaging air storage was used as a control in both seasons. Fruit quality attributes including soluble solids, titratable acidity, stem browning, berry drop and decay incidence were measured. The results indicated that short-term initial MAP (≤2 weeks) had potential for improving appearance of bunches and maintaining the quality of berries during long-term storage, and significantly reduced quality deterioration. Stems were greener and berry drop and decay incidence were more effectively controlled when fruit were sealed in high barrier film bags for 2 weeks and the bags were subsequently perforated.  相似文献

‘Superior seedless’ table grapes were stored for 7 days at 0 °C followed by 4 days at 8 °C + 2 days at 20 °C under modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). Two polypropylene films (PP) were used to generate the MAP, the micro-perforated PP-30 and an oriented PP (OPP). The OPP film was applied with and without fungicide (10 μL of trans-2-hexenal or 0.4 g Na2S2O5 kg−1). As control a macro-perforated PP was used. PP-30 packages reached the lowest O2 and the highest CO2 levels. Control clusters showed the highest weight losses and decay while almost no losses occurred under MAP treatments. No changes in softness, skin and/or pulp browning, or cluster shatter were found. After shelf life MAP-treated clusters showed slight to moderate stem browning, except under SO2 where practically no browning occurred while control clusters showed an extreme stem browning. After shelf life, MAP treatments showed good visual appearance and crunchiness, while control fruits were unmarketable. No off-flavors were detected for MAP treatments except for hexenal-treated berries. No remarkable changes for color, firmness, soluble solids content, pH, titratable acidity and maturity index were detected. Total sugars content at harvest was 200 g L−1 and only slight decreases were found after shelf life for most treatments. Total organic acids content at harvest was 15.4 mg 100 mL−1, which remained quite constant after cold storage and shelf life. The main phenolic compounds were flavan-3-ols (over 85% from the total content), hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives and flavonols, whose total amount at harvest was 140 mg kg−1 in a fresh weight basis. After shelf life only slight decreases in total phenolics occurred in all treatments. As a main conclusion, SO2-free MAP kept the overall quality of clusters close to that at harvest, with few differences when SO2 was added.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to study the effect of equilibrium modified atmosphere packaging on the stability of ‘San Antonio’ and ‘Banane’ breba fruit during postharvest cold storage by the use of three different microperforated films (1/50 mm, 1/30 mm, and 1/10 mm; ø = 100 μm). Gas composition in the wraps, weight loss, % disorder, and microbial counts were monitored during cold storage for 21 days. The tested microperforated films allowed the extension of cold storage time for brebas, minimizing weight loss and delaying the disorders due to fungal proliferation, especially M50 (1/50 mm). Total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity (TA), pH, firmness, and sensory quality were also evaluated. Among the tested microperforated films, M50 showed the best performance in terms of delaying physicochemical senescence processes of fruit. The breba cultivar had an important impact on the extension of cold storage. For ‘San Antonio’ and ‘Banane’ cultivars packaged with microperforated M50, the optimal time of cold storage was 14 and 21 days, respectively.  相似文献

A simple and rapid method was developed for quantitative determination of juiciness in peach flesh based on the absorption of free juice with ordinary absorbent paper after a flesh sample is squeezed by two metallic rolling cylinders. Juiciness data were compared with trained panel determinations on three peach cultivars kept at 4 °C and 90% RH for 7, 14 and 21 d plus a ripening period at 20 °C and 65% RH until the flesh reached 19.6 ± 9.2 N. There was a high correlation between panel judgment and paper absorption (r2 = 0.75 in ‘Elegant Lady’, 0.77 in ‘O’Henry’ and 0.93 in ‘Ross’). A sub-sample of the juiciest and the mealiest fruit also were sorted after 14 and 21 d in cold storage. ‘Ross’, a non-melting peach cultivar, did not develop flesh mealiness during any evaluation period. During storage, there was a reduction in juiciness reaching 15% less after 21 d. Mealy fruit were exclusively observed with melting cultivars exposed to cold storage. The proposed method for determining juice content is easily executed and shows a high association with human perception of juiciness and mealiness in peach.  相似文献

Postharvest temperature and relative humidity (RH) treatments were tested for their capacity to increase the soluble solids content:titratable acidity ratio (SSC:TA ratio) and/or reduce skin puffiness of New Zealand grown ‘Miho’ Satsuma mandarin. Fruit of low SSC:TA (approximately 6.8:1) harvested in 2001 and 2002 were held at 18 or 30 °C at low (approximately 65%) or high (>95%) RH for 3 or 5 days, followed by 2 days at 10 °C (88–92% RH). In 2002, an additional treatment of high and low RH at 10 °C was examined. Treatments at 30 °C, irrespective of RH, resulted in increased SSC:TA ratios in the fruit as a result of a decrease in titratable acidity, largely a decrease in citric acid. There was little effect of temperature on SSC and the levels of individual sugars. There was no significant effect of RH on either TA or SSC. The altered metabolism was also seen in an elevated respiratory CO2 output at 30 °C, but a decreased CO2 output once these fruit were transferred to 10 °C, in comparison with fruit treated at lower temperatures.At 30 °C, weight loss was up to 8.5% after 5 days under low RH, but <4% under high RH. Fruit with >4% weight loss tended to have an unacceptable level of dehydration of the skin. After 5 days at 30 °C and low RH, skin puffiness, quantified from magnetic resonance images taken before and after treatment, was reduced, although fruit tended to have soft skin that could be more prone to damage.It is concluded that short high temperature treatments such as 3–5 days at 30 °C can significantly raise the SSC:TA ratio in Satsuma mandarin through a reduction in TA, and conducting these treatments under a RH >90% minimises the risk of excessive weight loss and softening of the skin.  相似文献

Potato cultivars Premier Russet, GemStar Russet, Defender and Russet Burbank differ substantially in resistance to low temperature sweetening (LTS) and associated metabolism. ‘Gemstar Russet’ and ‘Premier Russet’ have moderate and high resistances, respectively, while ‘Defender’ loses processing quality progressively during storage at 9 °C, and similar to ‘Russet Burbank’, has virtually no resistance to LTS at 4 °C. The different mechanisms of LTS resistance or susceptibility in these cultivars were indicated by changes in sucrose (Suc), fructose (Fru) and glucose (Glc) concentrations in relation to tuber respiratory profiles during wound healing (9 °C), LTS (4 °C) and reconditioning (16 °C). At 4 °C, ‘Premier Russet’ tubers maintained low levels of Suc and reducing sugars (RS, Glc + Fru), while ‘GemStar Russet’ tubers accumulated Suc with little inversion to RS. ‘Defender’ and ‘Russet Burbank’ tubers accumulated RS during LTS but only moderate levels of Suc. Changes in RS content reflected the combined activities of acid invertase and its endogenous inhibitor. In response to an immediate drop from 9 °C to 4 °C, tuber respiration decreased to a minimum and then increased to a new maximum over the next approximately 5 days, before decreasing to a constant basal rate at 4 °C. Relative changes in respiration from the minimum to maximum rate during cold acclimation (respiratory acclimation response, RAR) were 80% for ‘GemStar Russet’ and ‘Defender’, 51% for ‘Russet Burbank’ and 26% for ‘Premier Russet’. The RARs correlated with total sugar (Suc + Glc + Fru) accumulation during LTS and likely reflected the metabolic energy required to catabolize starch to Suc, Glc and Fru. The relative ratio of Fru/Glc was also demonstrative of LTS-resistance, discriminating genotypes that accumulated Suc versus RS under LTS conditions. Changes in carbohydrates, invertase, respiration rates and RARs in response to temperature over the wound healing, LTS and reconditioning phases of storage characterized the LTS phenotypes unique to each cultivar, and revealed different mechanisms of resistance to LTS.  相似文献

The effect of pre-processing storage time and temperature on post-cutting quality of two artichoke cultivars (‘Catanese’ and ‘Violetto Foggiano’) was studied. Artichoke heads were harvested in January 2010 for ‘Catanese’ and in March 2011 for ‘Violetto Foggiano’ from commercial plantations. Freshly harvested artichoke heads were stored at 0, 5, and 12 °C in a humidified flow of air. Initially, and after 3 and 7 days of storage, respiration rate, weight loss, and electrolytic leakage were monitored. Moreover, at each sampling, artichokes were cut in quarters and stored for additional 3 days at 5 °C. On cut artichokes, soon after cutting and after post-cutting storage, visual appearance, color attributes (on outer bract surface, on cut bracts, and on cut receptacle surface) and phenol content were determined. Time and temperature of storage influenced quality attributes of cut artichokes, but to a different extent depending on the cultivar, whereas temperature did not affect the phenol content. ‘Violetto Foggiano’ artichokes benefited from pre-cutting low storage temperature (0 °C), whereas ‘Catanese’ showed physiological injuries on outer bract surfaces, where brown spots occurred. In both cases low temperatures during pre-cutting storage (5 and 0 °C) reduced the browning rate of the cut surface which maintained a higher L* value, compared to artichokes stored at 12 °C. Moreover, pre-cutting storage at 12 °C resulted in a reduction of quality of artichokes due to growth of floral primordia in the form of reddish tissues at the base of the receptacle for both cultivars. Management of storage conditions before cutting is therefore critical in fresh-cut processing operations of artichokes.  相似文献

The curative antifungal activity of postharvest sodium methylparaben (SMP) treatments against citrus green (GM) and blue (BM) molds was characterized on different citrus species and cultivars artificially inoculated with Penicillium digitatum or Penicillium italicum and incubated at 20 °C and 90% RH for 7 d or stored at 5 °C and 90% RH for 8 weeks plus 7 d of shelf-life at 20 °C. Effective concentrations were selected in in vivo primary screenings with ‘Valencia’ oranges. SMP at 200 mM was tested at 20, 50 or 62 °C for 30, 60 or 150 s in small-scale trials to determine the best dip treatment conditions. Dips of 200 mM SMP at 20 °C for 60 s were selected and applied alone or in combination with 25 μL L−1 of the conventional fungicide imazalil (SMP + IMZ 25). Imazalil at the very low concentrations of 25 (IMZ 25) or 50 μL L−1 (IMZ 50) were also tested. Effectiveness of SMP alone at 20 °C for 60 s was significantly higher on oranges (cvs. ‘Valencia’ and ‘Lanelate’) than on mandarins (cvs. ‘Clemenules’, ‘Nadorcott’ and ‘Ortanique’), with GM and BM incidence reductions of up to 88% after 7 d at 20 °C. SMP was compatible with IMZ 25 and consistently improved its performance, irrespective of citrus cultivars and storage conditions. All treatments were less effective on ‘Clemenules’ mandarins. On ‘Valencia’ oranges stored for 8 weeks at 5 °C and 7 d at 20 °C, the combined treatment was significantly more effective than the single treatments (reductions of GM and BM incidence of about 50–60% and 90–95%, respectively). In additional tests, 200 mM SMP dips at 20 °C for 60 s did not prevent GM on ‘Valencia’ oranges wounded, treated, inoculated with P. digitatum 24 h later, and incubated at 20 °C for 7 d. In contrast, the treatments IMZ 25 and SMP + IMZ 25 showed significant preventive activity. It can be concluded from these results that SMP aqueous solutions, especially applied at room temperature, might be an interesting nonpolluting control alternative to be included in citrus postharvest disease control programs in the future.  相似文献

Rachis browning is one of the main factors reducing the quality of table grapes during storage at low temperature. To better understand the effect of a 3-day CO2 pretreatment (20% CO2 plus 20% O2) on maintaining the rachis quality of table grapes (Vitis vinifera cv. Cardinal) at 0 °C, we analyzed the expression of genes codifying enzymes related to the synthesis and oxidation of phenolic compounds (phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, VcPAL; and polyphenol oxidase, GPO) and the detoxification of reactive oxygen species (catalase, GCAT; and ascorbate peroxidase, VcAPX) in rachis of treated and non-treated bunches. Furthermore, due to their role in senescence, the implication of ethylene and abscisic acid (ABA) was also investigated by studying the expression pattern of key regulatory genes for these hormones such as ACC synthase (ACS1) and oxidase (ACO1), VvNCED1 and 2. To determine whether these changes in gene expression were specifically related to rachis deterioration, their expression pattern in pulp and skin of treated and non-treated grapes were evaluated. The appearance of browning in non-treated rachis was associated with an increase in GPO and VcPAL mRNA levels, whereas high CO2 levels arrested this accumulation. In pulp, even though browning was not evident, a slight increase in GPO1 mRNA accumulation in non-treated bunches was detected. Moreover, lipid peroxidation level revealed lower oxidative stress in rachis of CO2-treated bunches than in non-treated ones, which seemed to be regulated by VcAPX and GCAT gene expression induction. This regulation was specific to rachis, showing a different pattern in pulp and skin. Regarding phytohormones, the effect of high CO2 levels reducing rachis browning seems to be linked to the modulation of ethylene biosynthesis genes. On the other hand, neither VvNCED1 nor VvNCED2 expression levels were altered in rachis, but NCED1 was induced specifically by low temperature in pulp. Overall, our results suggest a specific response of rachis to high levels of CO2 that could be related to the mitigation of rachis browning.  相似文献

The underlying causes as well as chemical and biochemical alleviation for CO2-induced browning in apple fruit are poorly understood. Ascorbic acid (AsA) dynamics in ‘Braeburn,’ a susceptible cultivar, and ‘Gala’, a resistant cultivar, were evaluated during on-tree development and storage at 0.5 °C in air or controlled atmospheres (CA) containing 1 kPa O2 and 1, 3 or 5 kPa CO2. ‘Braeburn’ fruit treated with diphenylamine (DPA) was also stored for 1 month to determine effects on browning incidence and AsA concentration. ‘Braeburn’ apples had significantly higher (p  0.05) AsA levels than ‘Gala’ during on-tree development, and storage. No correlation between AsA and maturity/ripening indices for ‘Braeburn’ or ‘Gala’ was apparent. Histochemical localization of fruit AsA showed a staining intensity consistent with the quantity analytically determined, and showed that AsA is diffusely distributed throughout the cortex in both cultivars during on-tree development. During storage, AsA was localized to the periphery of brown tissue in ‘Braeburn’ and to the coreline and cortex proximal to the peel in ‘Braeburn’ and ‘Gala’ tissues. DPA decreased browning development during storage, however, no correlation between DPA treatment and AsA quantity in healthy or brown cortex tissue was observed. We studied the effect of high oxygen on early peel spotting in ‘Sucrier’ bananas held at 25 °C and 90% RH. Fruit first ripened to colour index 3–4 (about as yellow as green) and were then held in containers with a continuous gas flow of 18 ± 2 kPa (control) or 90 ± 2 kPa oxygen. High oxygen promoted peel spotting. The in vitro activities of phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO), measured both in the whole peel and in peel spots, were lower in high oxygen than in the controls. The level of total free phenolics, both in the whole peel and in peel spots, was lower in the high oxygen treatment. Dopamine content in the peel spots decreased rapidly, earlier in the high oxygen treatments than in controls. It is concluded that peel spotting was not correlated with in vitro PAL and PPO activities. Decrease in dopamine levels correlated with peel spotting, indicating that it might be used as a substrate for the browning reaction.  相似文献

Pre-storage application of 40% CO2 at 0 °C for 24 or 48 h and controlled atmosphere (12% O2 + 12% CO2) storage at 0 °C for up to eight weeks on decay control and quality of organic ‘Flame Seedless’ and ‘Crimson Seedless’ table grapes were studied as a postharvest disease control alternative. To simulate different potential field conditions, these organic treatments were applied to organic-grown grapes that were naturally infected (without inoculation), surface inoculated (berries inoculated by spraying with a conidia suspension), and nesting inoculated (clusters inoculated by placing in the middle an artificially infected berry) with the pathogen Botrytis cinerea, the cause of grape gray mold. Under these three conditions, a 40% CO2 for 48 h pre-storage treatment followed by controlled atmosphere reduced the gray mold incidence from 22% to 0.6% and from 100% to 7.4% after four and seven weeks, respectively. High CO2 pre-storage alone limited botrytis incidence in both naturally and artificially infected grapes, but was more effective when combined with CA. These treatments did not affect visual or sensory fruit quality. Exposure to high CO2 for 24 or 48 h effectively inhibited mycelial growth of B. cinerea in PDA plates incubated at 22 °C for up to 72 h. Conidia germination in PDA plates was reduced ∼60% after 12 h incubation. In vitro studies demonstrated a fungistatic effect, but further studies on the mechanism of action could improve treatment performance. This novel high CO2 initial fumigation followed by controlled atmosphere during storage or transportation could be a commercially feasible alternative for postharvest handling of organic and conventional table grapes. Our results encourage validating this combined physical treatment in other cultivars and under commercial conditions.  相似文献
