The effective threshold rate of application of Dipel 2X was 250g/f. Incorporation of some chemical additives such as calcium sulphate (CaSO4) or calcium oxide (CaO) significantly potentiated the effectiveness of Dipel 2X on larval population. The addition of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and zinc sulphate (ZnSO4) to Dipel 2X greatly reduced the larval population and led to a significant increase in the yield of some vegetable crops. Dipel 2X baits at 250g/f were almost as effective as the chemical insecticide Hostathion when used at 1.5l/f in controllingA. ypsilon larvae attacking vegetable crops. Control of the greasy cutwormAgrotis ypsilon population was better achieved when the biological control agent Dipel 2X was used as baits.  相似文献

Field tests were conducted to determine the effectiveness of wheat bran baits based onSteinernema feltiae compared to the pathogenBacillus thuringiensis and the organophosphorus compound hostathion againstAgrotis ipsilon infesting Okra,Hibiscus esculentis cultivations. Significant larval reduction was observed in all treated plots after application with a significant increase in the yield compared to the control plots. On 17 field plots of 0,25 to 1 ha in forest plantations of southern Germany various commercial baits containing zinc phosphide, chlorphacinon and diphenacoum were tested in a pilot study for control of harmful small rodents likeMicrotus agrestis, M. arvalis andClethrionomys glareolus. The baits were dispersed in different concentrations over the ground or alternatively they were put together with a piece of apple in bait stations. The animals in the field plots were trapped by means of live traps, marked and released. The efficacy of the treatments was tested by repeating this procedure in consecutive time intervals and by analysing the fractions of marked and unmarked specimens. In comparision with a disperse distribution of the unprotected baits over the ground surface better results and a more lasting success could be mostly obtained with only 9 earthenware pipes distributed over one hectare and filled with a small amount of baits together with a piece of apple. The advantages and disadvantages of the bait station technique are discussed. It is assumed that the efficiency of the bait station technique can be improved by means of attractants and pheromones.  相似文献

The Common Vole (Microtus agrestis) and the Redbacked Vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) can cause severe damages in forest plantations. Different application techniques of rodenticides to control these harmful rodents were tested by several institutions of plant protection in the Federal Republic of Germany. The following registered baits were used: A bluestained pectin-wax pellet containing 0.0075% Chlorphacinon (Lepit®-Forstpellet), small flour-plates (Arrex®-M-Köder klein) and sunflower kernels coated with plastique-foil (Arrex®-E-Köder) both incorporated with 2% resp. 3.75% zinc-phosphide. In 1985 disperse spraying versus concentrated offering of the baits in 12 earthenware pipes/ha was tested. The density of mice and voles could be reduced nearly to the same level with both methods. However, the amount of baits needed was much less when bait stations were used. In 1986 a new and save type of bait station (Theyson-Köder-station) was tested, from which non-target animals cannot get baits. The acceptance of the bait station could be improved by aromatic compounds from apples. According to the obtained first results forest plantations can be protected during the whole wintertime against vole-damages by means of bait stations.  相似文献

The Egyptian cotton leafworm,Spodoptera littoralis Boisd., is the main important pest of alfalfa in Israel. Population levels of other pests usually do not reach the economic threshold. Nine chemical insecticide applications (7 spray applications and 2 granular fluorosilicate baits) were required to controlS. littoralis during the season of 1984 (in which infestation level was high) whereas only 5 applications of aBacillus thuringiensis var.entomocidus (Bte) preparation (3 sprays and 2 baits) produced the same effect. During 1983 and 1985 pest populations were moderate and only 6 chemical pesticide applications were required. A bait ofBte on wheat bran, Coax®, developed in the present study was effective in the control of large larvae (instars 4–6). Hay yields of fields treated withBte were similar to the yields of a conventionally treated field. The best control of large larvae was obtained by applying the bait preparation under the wind row during the alfalfa cutting.  相似文献

Tests with different rodenticides against the Iberian Vole (Microtus lusitanicus) and the Mediterranean Vole (M. duodecimcostatus) were carried out in highly infested orchards in Portugal. Best results were obtained with baits containing 0.005% Bromadiolon. Broken carob was a suitable bait material. Apple slices and granulats of lab chow were also accepted, but were destructed very fast by fungi. Cultivation techniques had a great influence on the results. The density of Iberian Voles could be diminished drastically with a combined method of removing the ground cover and subsequent application of poisoned baits. Blowing anticoagulant dusts directly into the galleries of the voles was not very successful until now.  相似文献

The large white butterfly, Pieris brassicae (L.), is an important pest of Indian mustard, Brassica juncea (L.) Czern., and inflicts heavy damage to all the above ground plant parts with strong yield reducing impacts. Farmers have few practical options other than to spray insecticides to protect their crop. In this study, an attempt was made during 2012–2013 and 2013–2014 crop seasons at Ludhiana, India, to evaluate Ethiopian mustard, Brassica carinata A. Braun as a trap crop to manage this pest as an alternate pest management strategy. B. carinata borders surrounding B. juncea were compared to chemically protected B. juncea and control (without B. carinata borders) plots for their effects on P. brassicae infestation and grain yield. Oviposition preference of adult butterflies was studied in a two-choice test in field cages, while the effect of two host plants on larval performance was studied under laboratory conditions under no choice conditions. B. juncea plots bordered with B. carinata harbored significantly lower larval population compared to control B. juncea plots during both the seasons. The grain yield in the bordered plots was also significantly higher than that from control plots and was statistically non-significant from that obtained in chemically protected plots. Female butterflies showed distinct oviposition preference for B. carinata over B. juncea and the larvae reared on B. carinata completed development in shorter period and grew bigger and heavier than those reared on B. juncea. Results indicated that B. carinata has potential to be used as trap crop to manage P. brassicae.  相似文献

An area of 50 feddans cultivated with soybeans was treated withBacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) baits againstAgrotis ypsilon and 60 feddans were sprayed withB.t. spray againstSpodoptera littoralis. WhenB.t. baits were used, the percentage of kill ofA. ypsilon reached 96.1–96.4% compared to 97.4–98% kill on using hostathion baits. WhenB.t. was sprayed againstS. littoralis, a percentage of larval kill 88.3% was obtained. This increased to 97.3% after the second application. On the other hand, the precentage of kill reached 96.8% when lannate was sprayed once. The average yield was 1.54 tons/fed. whenB.t. was sprayed twice againstS. littoralis and 1.42 tons/fed. when sprayed once. Combination baits containing cholecalciferol plus an anticoagulant are effective against commensal rodents resistant to anticoagulants, and they likely pose less risk than anticoagulant-only rodenticides due to lower concentrations of active ingredients and shorter time to death. However, these combination baits have not been tested for agricultural rodent pests. Therefore, we established a study to test the efficacy of cholecalciferol plus diphacinone artichoke bract and pellet baits to determine their ability to manage California voles Microtus californicus in artichokes, where resistance to anticoagulants is known to occur. Field tests using radiocollared voles indicated that bract baits were highly efficacious (85 %), although pellet baits were less effective (60 %). Low observed efficacy of pellet baits may have resulted from poor weather following application during the second sampling period; further testing may yield more positive results. We observed a bimodal distribution in timing of death, with one group of voles dying between 4.3 and 5.8 days post-consumption; the other group died between 9.0 and 14.5 days post-consumption. Deaths in the first group were attributed to cholecalciferol, while deaths in the second group were likely due to chronic anticoagulant exposure. Almost double the proportion of voles that died from bract consumption did so during the early period when compared to their pellet plot counterparts. This suggests that voles were consuming greater quantities of bract baits over a shorter period of time when compared to the pellet bait. Collectively, these findings indicate that baiting with cholecalciferol plus diphacinone coated bracts is an effective method for controlling vole populations in artichokes.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted during rainy seasons of three consecutive years (2008–2010) to study the effect of green leaf manuring on dry matter partitioning and productivity of lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.). Green leaves of five indigenous agroforestry tree species viz., Erythrina indica, Acacia auriculiformis, Alnus nepalensis, Parkia roxburghii, and Cassia siamea were treated at 10 t ha?1 on fresh weight basis in rice fields and compared with recommended N–P2O5–K2O (80:60:40 kg ha?1) and control treatments. During 2008–2009 year, yield attributes and rice yield were greater in NPK plots as compared to the green-leaf manured ones. However, in the third year, green leaf manuring (except that of Alnus) surpassed even the recommended N–P2O5–K2O treatment in terms of dry matter production and yield; better response was however observed with Erythrina. The soil available N after final harvest increased by ca. 14–20 % in Alnus and Erythrina treated plots as compared to the control. Over all, it could be said that management of plant residues can have long-term implications apart from the desired maintenance of soil organic matter and improving crop yield.  相似文献

Studies were conducted in cucumber fields to evaluate the standard and reduced dosage rates of 5 insecticides for control the cotton whiteflyBemisia tabaci (Genn.) and melon aphidAphis gossypii Glov. and effect of insecticide application on associated parasites and predators. Eggs of whitefly appeared to be less susceptibility to all treatments (max. 66% reduction) than larval and pupal stages. Populations of larval and pupal stages of whitefly were significantly reduced in all treated plots. For example (larvae on day 10 after treatment with ethiofencarb, diafenthiuron, and chlorpyrifos methyl 67, 50, and 68% pupae 68, 69, and 75%). Two aphelinid parasitoids,Eretmocerus mundus Mercet andProspaltella lutea Masi, were the most primary important parasitoids of the whitefly pupae in all test plots. Percent parasitism, in most treated plots, were slightly affected as a result of insecticide application. However, all tested insecticides and dosage rates caused severe suppression of emergence of adult parasitoids. Moreover, longevity of adult parasitoids were highly decreased. Populations of the melon aphid were extremely reduced, especially by ethiofencarb and diafenthiuron. Populations of predator species (Chrysopa carnea Steph.,Coccinella undecimpunctata Reiche andSyrphus spp.) were reduced in all treated plots. However, ethiofencarb applied at rates as low as 208.4g a.i./1001 provided equally effective aphid control and conserved numbers of insect predators in the treated plots. Also, the prothiofos and chlorpyrifos methyl applications at rates as low as 166.7 g a.i./1001 kept aphid numbers below than those in control and caused a smaller reduction in the combined populations of insect predators.  相似文献

Field applications usingBacillus thuringiensis (Dipel 2 X) againstSpodoptera exigua infesting corn and sunflower cultivations were carried out in two different localities in Egypt. The percentage of infested corn plants decreased to 2.5%, seven days after treatment with Dipel 2x, (250 g/fed) and the yield was significantly increased compared with untreated plots. The carbamate insecticide (Lannate) at 300 g/fed caused complete kill to the larvae and the highest yield was obtained. Application of Lannate, Dipel (250 g) or a combination of both (150 g/each/fed) caused a high reduction of the larvae existing in sunflower after seven days from application, while Dipel at 200 g/fed gave a lower effect. Ten days after application, the number of larvae and infested plants increased significantly in plots treated with Lannate alone, while plots treated with either Dipel (250 g) or Dipel combined with Lannate (150 g/each) still maintained a lower infestation. The estimated yield showed the highest increase in plots treated with Lannate followed by Dipel (250 g) and then a combination of both.  相似文献

Various subspecies ofMus musculus and related species are worldwide in distribution. In the temperate regions this rodent lives in the field throughout the year. it can cause severe damages to various crops, i. e. in Egypt the new reclaimed areas within the desert are heavily infested, and in Portugal seeds in greenhouses are often destroyed.The control of the house mouse is increasingly difficult because this pest rodent has become resistant to many rodenticides in some regions. The house mouse also inspects and is cautious when selecting its food, especially poisoned baits, and develops bait-shyness rapidly.The efficacy of several anticoagulants against house mice of different origins was tested. The animals were caught in the surrounding areas of Munich, Lisbon, and Cairo. An albino laboratory strain served as a standard. The rodenticides were diluted with olive oil and administered in varying doses to the animals. Before and after treatment the mortality and the prothrombin times of the test animals were observed. The following anticoagulants are ordered according to their increasing efficiency: Coumarin, Coumatetralyl, Chlorphacinon + Sulfachinoxalin, Difenacoum, Bromadiolon, and Fluocoumaphen.The susceptibility of different subspecies of the house mouse to the anticoagulants varied remarkably.M. m. spretus from Portugal was very resistant to all the tested rodenticides whereasM. m. praetextus in Egypt was highly susceptible.In Egypt bait preference tests and some experiments with ready made baits containing Difenacoum (RS 2®), Chlorphacinone + Sulfachinoxalin (Raviac®), and Warfarin (Coumafene®) were conducted in the field. Wheat was the preferred bait as compared to sunflower kernels, maize, and chicken pellets. The acceptance was slightly improved by adding a small quantity (5–15%) if sesame to the bait but not in combination with oliveoil, maizeoil or cottonoil. In small testplots in 0,5 ha of straw heaps and in 1 ha of maize fields the bait consumed was reduced on the seventh day by more than 70% after application of anticoagulants, but increased very rapidly when the treatment was interrupted because of reinfestation.

Measures used to control Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus Berk.) on farms are frequently unsuccessful due to poor bait uptake. In pest-control operations, rats always have the choice between the farms own food resources and the bait. In this study we analysed the individual selection behaviour in two rat colonies when the rats were offered a familiar bait which matched the food on the farm and a bait which was unknown. Bait stations equipped with video and transponder technology were installed in two differently structured areas on a farm. In four experiments, a familiar foodstuff (rolled oats) was put out for 3 days, and then at one of the stations, a test bait was put out for 4 days. The relative palatability of the test baits was known from laboratory experiments. The visits of marked individuals were registered, and the amounts consumed were estimated in the video evaluation. Location preference was determined by offering identical food in two neighbouring bait stations. Social interaction was evaluated using the video recordings. The bait stations were visited on a daily basis irrespective of the supply. Food selection patterns (and bait acceptance) observed in the two differently structured areas on the farm were different. However, the relative palatability among the four test baits was stable and agreed with the ranking in laboratory experiments. Over the days of the experiment there was no significant difference in bait acceptance. Location preference and social interaction influenced the choice of bait station. The results show that it is possible to predict bait palatability in the laboratory, which is an important prerequisite for good bait uptake. However, the bait acceptance level is ultimately determined by the prevailing living conditions in the respective area. For optimising bait uptake, the structure of the areas on the farm must be considered just as much as findings about location preferences and social interaction.  相似文献

The calculated percentage of droplets deposition ofBacillus thuringiensis var.kurstaki HD-1 Dipel 2X on the foliage of soybean plants in relation to the sensitive “Ciba Geigy” papers showed to be the highest (92.4%) after ground spray application, compared to an average of 67.4, 85.8 and 89.3% following aerial application of the same preparation in spray volumes of 10, 20 and 30 l/F, respectively. Aerial application ofB. t. showed to be more effective during the first 3 days after spraying soybean cultivations and the mortality ofSpodoptera littoralis larvae varied between 36.9–67.2% in correlation to the spray volume. The volume achieving the highest and significant suppression of infestation was 20 l/F. On the other hand, the yield of soybeans obtained from plots receiving a spray volume of 30 l/F was higher compared to plots sprayed with a volume of 20 or 10 l/F, but with no significant difference when compared to those plots receiving ground spray application.  相似文献

The carryover effects of N fertilization on five coastal Pacific Northwest Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco) plantations were studied. “Carryover” is defined as the long-term impact of N fertilizer added to a previous stand on the growth of a subsequent stand. Average height and diameter at 1.3 m above-ground (DBH) of 7–9-year-old Douglas-fir trees and biomass and N-content of understory vegetation were assessed on paired control (untreated) and urea-N-fertilized plots that had received cumulative additions of 810–1120 kg N ha−1 to a previous stand. Overall productivity was significantly greater in the fertilized stands compared to the controls. In 2006, the last growth measurement year, mean seedling height was 15% greater (p = 0.06) and mean DBH was 29% greater (p = 0.04) on previously fertilized plots compared to control plots. Understory vegetation biomass of fertilized plots was 73% greater (p = 0.005), and N-content was 97% greater (p = 0.004) compared to control plots. These results show that past N fertilization markedly increased seedling growth in these plantations as well as biomass and N-content of understory vegetation in a subsequent rotation. These findings suggest that N fertilization could potentially increase site productivity of young Douglas-fir stands found on low quality sites in the Pacific Northwest 15–22 years after application by a carryover effect. These plantations have not yet reached the age where marketable materials can be harvested from them, and the growth of trees should be monitored over a longer time period before potential impacts on older stands, if any, can be determined.  相似文献

We tested a new formulation of verbenone, an antiaggregation pheromone of the mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), for area-wide protection of lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta Douglas ex Loudon) stands in the western United States. Helicopter applications of verbenone-releasing laminated flakes were made at the rate of 370 g of active ingredient/ha to two sites, one in California and one in Idaho, during summer 2005. Each site consisted of five 20.23-ha treated plots and five matching 20.23-ha untreated plots. We assessed D. ponderosae flight into study plots using traps baited with aggregation pheromones and we tallied D. ponderosae attack rates on P. contorta trees in treated and control plots before and after application. There were no significant differences between numbers of D. ponderosae trapped on treated and control plots. However, a significantly smaller proportion of P. contorta trees was attacked in treated plots than in control plots at both sites; the attack rate in untreated stands was roughly three times that of treated stands in both California and Idaho, even at this low application rate. Furthermore, attack rate in 2004 was a significant explanatory variable for the response in 2005 regardless of treatment in both California and Idaho. There was no significant treatment effect at either site on attraction of Temnochila chlorodia (Coleoptera: Trogositidae) Mannerheim, a key predator of D. ponderosae, to the prey aggregation pheromone.  相似文献

In six Douglas-fir [Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco] stands in the Puget Sound Region in Western Washington/USA, forest floor C and N pools were quantified on control plots and on plots that had been fertilized repeatedly with urea 8–30 years ago (total amount of applied N 0.9–1.1 Mg ha−1). Additionally, net N mineralization and nitrification rates were assessed in field and laboratory incubation experiments. Forest floor C/N ratios were decreased on the fertilized plots of all sites compared to the respective control plots. The decreases were particularly strong at sites with initial C/N ratios larger than 30. On sites with low productivity (site index at age 50: <33 m), N fertilization resulted in considerable increases in forest floor N pools. Net N mineralization and nitrification during 12-week field incubation was negligible for the unfertilized and fertilized plots of all except one site (Pack Forest), where the stand had been clear-cut 2 years ago. The increases in N mineralization rates during 12-week laboratory incubation induced by repeated N fertilization showed an inverse relationship to the time elapsed since the last fertilizer application, and were generally larger at sites with initial forest floor C/N ratios >30. For the investigated sites, fertilization effects on net N mineralization sustained for at least 11 years after the last fertilizer application. Nitrification correlated strongly with the forest floor pH; significant formation of NO3 was observed only for O layers with a pH (H2O) higher than 4.5.  相似文献

Context

Excessive recruitment in post-fire regeneration of Pinus halepensis can require pre-commercial thinning. The 1994 Moratalla fire (Spain) and the thinning applied there since 2004 provided good conditions for testing pre-commercial thinning effectiveness.

Aims

To analyse pre-commercial thinning effects on tree size, reproductive potential, stem biomass and annual growth in 15-year-old saplings.

Methods

Twenty nine circular plots (5 m radius) were established based on (1) years since thinning and (2) aspect. Non-thinned plots were included as controls. Sapling variables were measured and pine cones were counted and classified according to maturity. Three saplings per plot were felled, five sample disks were extracted from each and tree rings were analysed with Windendro® software.

Results

Sapling size, annual growth and stem biomass were higher in thinned plots than in control plots 2–4 years after thinning. Annual growth declined five years after thinning. Cone counts were higher 2–5 years after thinning, depending on the cone type. Aspect influenced some variables.

Conclusion

Thinning accelerated stand maturity but positive effects were indiscernible until 2–5 years later. Serotinous cones, which are fundamental to regeneration after fire, increased in number after 5 years. The effects of aspect were inconclusive due to interactions with years since thinning.  相似文献

Termite bait products that contain chitin synthesis inhibitors (CSIs) protect structures from subterranean termites via colony elimination. A hallmark of CSI baits is their dose-independent lethal time, as workers exposed to a CSI do not die until they initiate the molting process. Due to this mode of action and termite behaviors such as trophallaxis and cannibalism, a relatively small quantity of ingested CSI can spread throughout an entire colony before secondary repellency or avoidance behaviors occur, ultimately resulting in total colony elimination. In the field, only a portion of a subterranean termite colony actively forages upon a CSI bait at any given time, suggesting that only a relatively small proportion of workers may need to feed upon a CSI bait for a colony to be eliminated. In the present study, we used varying proportions of workers from whole four-year-old laboratory-reared Coptotermes gestroi (Wasmann) colonies (~?62,500 termites/colony on average) to determine what proportion of workers need to feed upon a CSI bait in order to achieve colony elimination. A range of 0% (control), 0.5%, 1%, 2.5%, and 5% of the total worker population of colonies was allowed to feed on a formulated 0.5% noviflumuron bait for five days before being returned to their colonies. Colony elimination was observed for all 5%-fed and four out of six 2.5%-fed colonies by 107 days after CSI exposure. Our results confirm that only a small subset of the worker population of a colony must feed upon a CSI bait to achieve subterranean termite colony elimination.
