Telford et al. (Brevia, 19 May 2006, p. 1015) reported that freshwater diatoms exhibit regional-scale richness-pH relationships that depend substantially on regional habitat availability. On this basis, the authors argued that, despite their microscopic size, diatoms are not ubiquitously dispersed. Here, I describe my demonstration that their primary evidence against the ubiquitous dispersal hypothesis is spurious.  相似文献

Tilman et al. (Reports, 8 December 2006, p. 1598) argued that low-input high-diversity grasslands can provide a substantial proportion of global energy needs. We contend that their conclusions are not substantiated by their experimental protocol. Nee et al. (Reports, 19 August 2005, p. 1236) used a null model to argue that life history invariants are illusions. Jonzén et al. (Reports, 30 June 2006, p. 1959) proposed that the rapid advance of spring migration dates of long-distance migrants throughout Europe reflects an evolutionary response to climate change. However, most migrants should not advance their migration time because the phenology of their breeding grounds has not changed. Kelley and Endler (Reports, 20 January 2012, p. 335) claim that male great bowerbirds construct a visual illusion, using display object gradients, that affects mating success. We argue that they provide inadequate statistical support for their hypothesis, inappropriately exclude important data, and do not consider other display traits that explain mating success. Cassar et al. (Reports, 24 August 2007, p. 1067) proposed that aerosol-iron input enhances Southern Ocean export production. Their conclusion critically depends upon aerosol-iron modeling simulations not validated with iron-deposition data and dust dissolution rates based on Northern Hemisphere atmospheric chemical conditions (low pH). (Reports, 12 August 2005, p. 1068) reported that in situ mesoscale phosphorus enrichment of the eastern Mediterranean Sea altered selected biological parameters and concluded that the added phosphorus was rapidly transferred from bacteria to mesozooplankton. (Reports, 20 October 2006, p. 449) measured sedimentation from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in coastal Louisiana and inferred that storm deposition overwhelms direct Mississippi River sediment input. However, their annualized hurricane deposition rate is overestimated, whereas riverine deposition is underestimated by at least an order of magnitude. (Reports, 11 August 2006, p. 851) claimed that Drosophila Tequila (Teq) and human neurotrypsin are orthologs and concluded that deficient long-term memory after Teq inactivation indicates that neurotrypsin plays its essential role for human cognitive functions through a similar mechanism. McKellar et al. (Reports, 16 September 2011, p. 1619) analyzed Late Cretaceous amber specimens from Canada and identified some filaments as dinosaurian protofeathers. We argue that their analysis and data do not provide sufficient evidence to conclude that such filaments are feather-like structures. However, their analysis is confounded by three issues. Ilonidis et al. (Reports, 19 August 2011, p. 993) report acoustic travel-time decreases associated with emerging sunspot regions before their appearance on the solar surface. An independent analysis using helioseismic holography does not confirm these travel-time anomalies for the four regions illustrated by Ilonidis et al. Mossel and Vigoda (Reports, 30 September 2005, p. 2207) show that nearest neighbor interchange transitions, commonly used in phylogenetic Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms, perform poorly on mixtures of dissimilar trees. However, the conditions leading to their results are artificial. 为了研究网室遮荫栽培对两个木瓜品种光合作用的影响,我们利用便携式光合仪测定了木瓜的光合作用日变化、光响应曲线以及叶绿素荧光.结果表明①光合作用日进程中,网室内的气温(Ta)、光强(PFD)及叶内外蒸汽压差(VPD)在中午都显著低于网室外(P≤0.05).网室内栽培的木瓜的光合速率(An)、气孔导度(gs)、细胞间CO2浓度(Ci)都出现“双峰曲线”,即未出现“午休”,而网室内栽培的正好相反.②在网室外自然光照下两种木瓜gsVPD响应VPD升高时,gs下降,呈显著负相关,这也是中午光合速率受到限制的原因之一.而网室栽培gsVPD相关不显著(P≤0.05).③网室内木瓜的叶绿素荧光FvFm午间的下降幅度显著低于网室外木瓜(P≤0.05).④网室内木瓜光响应曲线中光补偿点(LCP)和光饱和点(LSP)低,表观量子效率()高的特征,表明木瓜在网室适度遮荫的条件下的耐荫的适度性表现.以上表明在华南地区,网室栽培有助于缓解植物在中午的强光、高温以及高湿的条件下产生的光抑制,避开“午休”,从而积累更多的有机碳,提高光合效率,具有推广的潜力.  相似文献

Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of the relaxation times of the water in the crystalline lens show that, as in all interfacial systems, these parameters are markedly reduced from their values in pure water, that T(2) is less than T(1), and that both depend on water content. Determination of diffusion coefficients and studies on physiologically inert lenses indicate that reduced relaxation times do not provide direct evidence for ordering of the bulk of the cell water.  相似文献
