REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Extraction of cheek teeth (CT) by the conventional repulsion technique requires general anaesthesia and carries a high rate of post operative complications. Consequently, an alternative method of extraction, i.e. orally in standing horses, was evaluated. HYPOTHESIS: The need for and risks of general anaesthesia could be avoided and post extraction sequelae reduced by performing extractions orally in standing horses. METHODS: One hundred mainly younger horses (median age 8, range 2-18 years) with firmly attached CT that required extraction because of apical infections, displacements, diastemata, idiopathic fractures and the presence of supernumerary CT had the affected teeth (n = 111) extracted orally under standing sedation. Follow-up information was obtained for all cases, a median of 16 months later. RESULTS: Oral extraction was successful in 89 horses and unsuccessful in 11 due to damage to the CT clinical crown (n = 9) during extraction, for behavioural reasons (n = 1) and because the apex of a partly extracted CT fell back into the alveolus following sectioning (n = 1). Predispositions to extraction-related CT fractures were present in 5 of the 9 cases, i.e. advanced dental caries (n = 2) and pre-existing 'idiopathic' fractures (n = 3). The iatrogenically fractured CT were later repulsed under standing sedation (n = 3) and under general anaesthesia (n = 6). Eighty-one of the remaining 89 horses had successful oral CT extraction with no or minimal intra- or post operative complications occurring. Post operative complications in the other 8 cases included post extraction alveolar sequestration (n = 3), alveolar sequestration and localised osteomyelitis (n = 1), localised osteomyelitis (n = 1), incorporation of alveolar packing material into alveolar granulation tissue (n = 1), and nasal discharge due to continued intranasal presence of purulent food material (n = 1) and to ongoing sinusitis (n = 1). The above sequelae were treated successfully in all cases, with general anaesthesia required in just one case. Following oral extraction, significantly (P<0.001) fewer post operative problems developed in 54 horses with apically infected CT in comparison with 71 previous cases that had repulsion of apically infected CT at our clinic. CONCLUSIONS AND POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: Oral extraction of cheek teeth is a successful technique in the majority of younger horses with firmly attached CT and greatly reduces the post operative sequelae, compared with CT repulsion. Additionally, the costs and risks of general anaesthesia are avoided. Further experience and refinement in the described protocol could potentially increase the success of this procedure and also reduce the incidence of post operative sequelae.  相似文献

The precise location of neurovascular structures within the relatively long mandibular canal of the horse is of paramount importance in surgical procedures of the area. The inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) enters the mandibular canal on the medial (lingual) surface of the mandible and innervates all the mandibular teeth. During its course, the nerve moves laterally, crossing the roots of the inferior cheek teeth. However, the exact anatomical relationships occurring between the IAN and the roots of the equine mandibular cheek teeth have not been described in detail. In this study, the mandibles of 40 horses were examined with CT scans and then used for bilateral detailed anatomical dissection, to assess the path of the IAN and its relationship to the roots of the lower cheek teeth. The data obtained show that the equine IAN is located ventral to the apices of the molar teeth (311/411, 310/410, 309/409 according to the Triadan numerical system). At the level of PM4 (308/408), the IAN is located on the lingual side of the roots and coronally to its apices. At the level of PM3 (307/407), the IAN is then found on the lingual side of the roots but in proximity to the apices. In 2 of 40 horses (=5%), the IAN moves towards the lingual side between the mesial and the distal root of PM4. Our observations are valuable for planning a surgical approach to the ventral side of the mandible in the horse and to avoid potential post‐operative complications.  相似文献

Five horses were anaesthetised twice with thiopentone sodium, guaifenesin and halothane. The second anaesthesia was 16 days after the first and two days following oral administration of trichlorfon. Heart rate, carotid arterial, pulmonary arterial and right atrial pressures, cardiac output and blood temperature were measured every 15 minutes for 120 minutes. Heart rate, carotid arterial pressure and cardiac output were similar on both occasions. Pulmonary arterial and right atrial pressures were highest during anaesthesia after treatment with trichlorfon when compared with values obtained before treatment. Pulmonary vascular resistance was significantly decreased at four measurement times during anaesthesia after treatment with trichlorfon. All cardiovascular measurements were within ranges accepted as normal for halothane anaesthesia in horses. In a second experiment, four ponies were anaesthetised with xylazine and ketamine on two occasions one week apart. Two ponies received trichlorfon two days before the second anaesthesia. Heart rate, arterial pressure and respiratory rate recorded during anaesthesia were not different in ponies after organophosphate treatment. The time to standing after the second anaesthesia was significantly increased in all ponies.  相似文献

Objective To compare recovery times and quality following maintenance of anaesthesia with sevoflurane or isoflurane after a standard intravenous induction technique in horses undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Study design Prospective, randomised, blinded clinical study. Animals One hundred ASA I/II horses undergoing MRI. Materials and methods Pre‐anaesthetic medication with intravenous acepromazine and romifidine was followed by induction of anaesthesia with diazepam and ketamine. The animals were randomised into two groups to receive either sevoflurane or isoflurane in oxygen. Horses were subjectively scored (0–5) for temperament before sedation, for quality of sedation, induction and maintenance and anaesthetic depth on entering the recovery area. Recoveries were videotaped and scored by an observer, unaware of the treatment, using two scoring systems. Times to the first movement, head lift, sternal recumbency and standing were recorded along with the number of attempts to achieve sternal and standing positions. Variables were compared using a Student t‐test or Mann–Whitney U‐test (p < 0.05), while the correlation between subjective recovery score and other relevant variables was tested calculating the Spearman Rank correlation coefficient and linear regression modelling performed when significant. Results Seventy‐seven horses entered the final analysis, 38 received isoflurane and 39 sevoflurane. Body mass, age and duration of anaesthesia were similar for both groups. There were no differences in recovery times, scoring or number of attempts to achieve sternal recumbency and standing between groups. Weak, but significant, correlations were found between the subjective recovery score for the pooled data from both groups and both temperament and time in sternal recumbency. Conclusions No differences in recovery times or quality were detected following isoflurane or sevoflurane anaesthesia after intravenous induction. Clinical relevance Sevoflurane affords no obvious advantage in recovery over isoflurane following a standard intravenous induction technique in horses not undergoing surgery.  相似文献

Rupture of the urinary bladder is rare in adult horses with various standing or recumbent surgical repair techniques historically reported as the treatments of choice. This case series describes the successful conservative management of cystorrhexis in 4 adult horses. Conservative management is therefore a potentially viable treatment option which forgoes the risks of general anaesthesia and may reduce the post operative complications associated with surgery of the bladder.  相似文献

This case report describes four horses with unilateral superficial or mid-stromal immune-mediated keratitis (IMMK) treated with a superficial keratectomy (SK) without a conjunctival graft. In two horses, the surgery was performed under general anaesthesia, and in two horses standing with sedation and local blocks. Results of this report show that SK is a viable treatment option in horses with chronic superficial and/or mid-stromal IMMK that can even be performed in the standing, sedated horse. When sufficient corneal tissue is removed, no recurrence is to be expected in the long-term follow-up (up to 31 months). In two horses, healing occurred without complications. Two horses developed a secondary bacterial infection post-operatively (Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus). In one case, this resulted in a pre-perforating melting corneal ulcer necessitating conjunctival pedicle graft surgery 13 days post keratectomy. In three horses, there was no recurrence of the IMMK with a long-term follow-up of 6–31 months. One case showed recurrence of IMMK in the cornea region surrounding the keratectomy 9 months after surgery.  相似文献

Melanoma is a common neoplasm in horses, with a high rate of incidence in the perineum and ventral tail. Surgical excision is often recommended to remove such masses and can be achieved in the standing horse either via local infiltration of local anaesthetic, or via epidural administration of a local anaesthetic and/or an adrenergic α2 receptor agonist. The clinical records of all horses with tail and/or perineal melanomas that received epidural anaesthesia at a single equine hospital, over a 7-year period, were reviewed to determine the drugs administered and complications associated with the epidural injection. Twenty-five cases were identified, five of which received epidural anaesthesia on two occasions. Epidural anaesthesia was insufficient to allow surgical melanoma excision in two horses; repeated epidural injection allowed sufficient loss of sensation in one of these horses and additional regional infiltration of local anaesthetic allowed completion of surgery in the other. Three horses developed significant ataxia associated with epidural anaesthesia, two of which became recumbent. Both recumbent horses were placed under general anaesthesia, and in one of these, rope-assisted anaesthetic recovery resulted in additional complications associated with facial nerve paresis, fractured ribs and a fracture of the first coccygeal vertebra, with associated neurological dysfunction of the rectum, anus, tail and surrounding skin.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate chemical arthrodesis using sodium monoiodoacetate for treatment of degenerative joint disease of the tarsometatarsal and distal intertarsal joints. DESIGN: Retrospective clinical study. METHOD: Horses were diagnosed with degenerative joint disease of one or more of the tarsometatarsal or distal intertarsal joints based on history, lameness examination, radiographic findings and, in some cases, response to intra-articular anaesthesia or medication. Intra-articular injections of sodium monoiodoacetate were performed using 23 gauge needles in the sedated, standing horse. Positive contrast arthrography of the distal intertarsal joint was performed in all horses to evaluate needle placement and the presence or absence of communication with other synovial structures. The mean intra-articular dose of sodium monoiodoacetate was 192 mg. Horses were subject to a graded exercise program commencing 7 to 10 days after treatment. Where possible, follow up lameness examination and radiography was performed at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after treatment. RESULTS: At 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after treatment, respectively, 0/57, 14/55, 41/50, and 29/34 of horses were sound. At 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after treatment, respectively, 5/55, 24/38, 26/30 and 18/18 of horses had radiographic evidence of ankylosis of treated joints. Post injection pain was marked in 6.7% of horses and significant complications requiring further treatment occurred in 3.8% of horses. CONCLUSIONS: Chemical arthrodesis using sodium monoiodoacetate was an effective treatment method for degenerative joint disease of the distal tarsal joints. The technique was performed in the sedated standing horse and required minimal equipment. Results were comparable to those achieved following surgical arthrodesis. The risk of significant complications was minimised through good technique using an appropriate injection volume and concentration.  相似文献

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Nasopharyngeal collapse has been observed in horses as a potential cause of exercise intolerance and upper respiratory noise. No treatment is currently available and affected horses are often retired from performance. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve block and stylopharyngeus muscle dysfunction on nasopharyngeal function and airway pressures in exercising horses. METHODS: Endoscopic examinations were performed on horses at rest and while running on a treadmill at speeds corresponding to HRmax50, HRmax75 and HRmax, with upper airway pressures measured with and without bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve block. RESULTS: Bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve block caused stylopharyngeus muscle dysfunction and dorsal nasopharyngeal collapse in all horses. Peak inspiratory upper airway pressure was significantly (P = 0.0069) more negative at all speeds and respiratory frequency was lower (P = 0.017) in horses with bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve block and stylopharyngeus muscle dysfunction compared to control values. CONCLUSIONS: Bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve anaesthesia produced stylopharyngeus muscle dysfunction, dorsal pharyngeal collapse and airway obstruction in all horses. POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: The stylopharyngeus muscle is probably an important nasopharyngeal dilating muscle in horses and dysfunction of this muscle may be implicated in clinical cases of dorsal nasopharyngeal collapse. Before this information can be clinically useful, further research on the possible aetiology of stylopharyngeus dysfunction and dysfunction of other muscles that dilate the dorsal and lateral walls of the nasopharynx in horses is needed.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to develop a technique for recording electrical activity of the equine cerebral cortex following application of a noxious electrical stimulus to the maxillary branch of the trigeminal nerve in order to investigate trigeminal nerve neurophysiology in control and headshaking horses. Triphasic somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) were recorded using subcutaneous needle electrodes in four control and four headshaking horses under general anaesthesia. Dural electroencephalography electrodes were used to record SEPs in one further control and one further headshaking horse. Headshaking horses appeared to have decreased middle latency and inter-peak intervals following stimulation of the trigeminal nerve compared with control horses, supporting abnormal trigeminal nerve physiology in equine headshaking.  相似文献

This paper describes the clinical and radiographic features, and response to treatment, of 45 horses which showed lameness that was improved by intra-articular anaesthesia of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint. Although many horses had poor conformation of the foot of the lame limb, the majority showed no localising clinical signs suggestive of involvement of the DIP joint. Lameness was usually unilateral. No horse with bilateral lameness responded to treatment. Palmar digital nerve blocks frequently improved or alleviated lameness, although in some horses palmar (abaxial sesamoid) nerve blocks were required to eliminate lameness. This difference in response did not affect response to treatment. Intra-articular anaesthesia of the DIP joint usually resulted in resolution of lameness within 5 mins; a partial improvement in lameness or a slow response were poor prognostic indicators. None of the horses had radiographic abnormalities compatible with navicular disease. Radiographic changes of the distal interphalangeal joint per se were generally detectable only in lateromedial views and were identified in less than one third of the horses. Success rates were low following treatment of cases with radiographic abnormalities. In those with no radiographic abnormalities the response to corrective trimming and shoeing and intra-articular administration of sodium hyaluronate, once or repeatedly, was variable and no parameters could be used to predict the likely outcome. Treatment was successful in approximately 30 per cent of cases. Subsequent treatment of horses which remained lame, by intra-articular administration of polysulphated glycosaminoglycans, was not helpful; only a small proportion became sound following prolonged (nine months) rest.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Complications associated with equine castration are the most common cause of malpractice claims against equine practitioners in North America. An understanding of the embryological development and surgical anatomy is essential to differentiate abnormal from normal structures and to minimise complications. Castration of the normal horse can be performed using sedation and regional anaesthesia while the horse is standing, or under general anaesthesia when it is recumbent. Castration of cryptorchid horses is best performed under general anaesthesia at a surgical facility. Techniques for castration include open, closed and half-closed techniques. Failure of left and right testicles to descend occurs with nearly equal frequency, however, the left testicle is found in the abdomen in 75% of cryptorchid horses compared to 42% of right testicles. Bilateral cryptorchid and monorchid horses are uncommon. Surgical approaches described for the castration of cryptorchid horses include an inguinal approach with or without retrieval of the scrotal ligament, a parainguinal approach, or less commonly a suprapubic paramedian or flank approach. Laparoscopic castration of cryptorchid horses has recently been described but the technique has limited application in practice at this time. A definitive diagnosis of monorchidism can only be made after surgical exploration of the abdomen, removal of the normal testis and hormonal testing. Hormonal assays reported to be useful include analysis of basal plasma or serum testosterone or oestrone sulphate concentrations, testosterone concentrations following hCG stimulation, and faecal oestrone sulphate concentrations. Reported complications of castration include postoperative swelling, excessive haemorrhage, eventration, funiculitis, peritonitis, hydrocele, penile damage and continued stallion-like behaviour.  相似文献

Reasons for performing study: Despite the possibility that sound horses may have radiographic signs consistent with osteoarthritis of the small tarsal joints (OA‐STJ), a diagnosis of ‘bone spavin’ as a cause of lameness is often made based only on radiographic examination. Objectives: To determine whether severity of radiographic change and response to treatment are correlated with the duration and degree of lameness and the response to intra‐articular anaesthesia in horses with OA‐STJ. Methods: A retrospective study of all horses that showed a positive response to intra‐articular anaesthesia of the STJ was performed. Details of history, clinical presentation and diagnostic findings were recorded. Radiographs of affected tarsi were evaluated and scored independently by 2 observers. Follow‐up was via a telephone questionnaire with the owner. Statistical analysis was used to assess the association between the duration and degree of lameness, the response to intra‐articular anaesthesia and radiographic findings. Response to treatment was compared with the findings from the diagnostic work‐up. Results: Ninety‐one horses were included (61 unilateral and 30 bilateral lameness). Fifty‐nine percent of horses had been lame for over 2 months. There was no association between the duration and degree of lameness, or between duration or degree of lameness, intra‐articular anaesthesia and radiographic findings. Response to treatment showed a significant positive association with less severe radiographic changes within the tarsometatarsal (TMT) joint. Follow‐up was available for 48% of cases, with 52% horses returning to the same level of exercise. Conclusions: There is no association between the duration and degree of lameness, the response to intra‐articular anaesthesia and radiographic findings in horses with OA‐STJ. However, horses that improved following treatment tended to have less marked TMT joint pathology. Potential relevance: Response to intra‐articular anaesthesia should remain the gold standard for diagnosis of OA‐STJ. Predicting which cases are likely to improve following treatment remains difficult.  相似文献

Painful interventions can be performed on horse in standing position by means of sedative analgesia, also called standing-position anaesthesia. Combinations of anaesthetics are quite often used, in that context, for the purpose of producing analgetic effects stronger and more reliable than those that would be obtainable from one anaesthetic alone. The following combinations were comparatively tested for their analgetic and sedative effects and their effects upon the organism: Chloralhydrate with Ursonarkon (oxazolidone), Chloralhydrate with Rompun (xylazine), Chloralhydrate with morphine hydrochloride, Chloralhydrate with morphine hydrochloride and Ursonarkon, local anaesthesia in conjunction with sedation by Ursonarkon. 50 experiments were conducted on an experimental group of 10 horses under standardised conditions together with complementary tests on 71 horses under field conditions. The experimental methodology used for assessment of analgetic effects was based on defined electrical and thermic stimuli to enable determination of reactive thresholds. An objective comparison was thus possible between the above variants. Local anaesthesia in combination with complementary sedation proved to meet all demands on standing-position anaesthesia, as it was found to eliminate pain and tactile reflexes. Defence movements have to be expected, whenever preparations are used that attack the central nervous system, since while sensations of pain are suppressed, tactile stimuli may be met with reflex responses via the spinal cord and its intrinsic function.  相似文献

Displaced sagittal cheek tooth fractures are a cause of oral pain, quidding and apical infection. Intraoral extraction is the preferred technique to remove affected teeth, but can be difficult due to displaced and friable fracture fragments. Stabilising fracture fragments via filling of the fracture space with polymethymethacrylate (PMMA) prior to removal may be a useful method to facilitate intraoral extraction. Case details were examined retrospectively. A total of 22 cheek teeth required extraction in 20 horses because of displaced sagittal fractures. Clinical diagnoses were made using oral examination, oral endoscopy, skull radiography and computed tomography. All procedures were performed in standing, sedated horses in stocks. Fracture spaces were cleaned and packed with PMMA and teeth removed using a routine intraoral extraction technique. Digital photographs of extracted teeth were taken and tooth measurements calibrated using digital image software. Intraoperative difficulties, as well as post-operative complications were recorded. A total of 21 maxillary and one mandibular cheek teeth were extracted. All maxillary teeth had advanced infundibular caries. Intraoral extraction was successful in 16 cases; six were unsuccessful and required repulsion due to tooth fragmentation or abnormal dental anatomy. In 11 cases, maxillary or conchofrontal sinus trephination was performed to either treat sinusitis, repulse the tooth, or both. Two horses developed short-term complications following local anaesthesia of the maxillary nerve. The mean ratio of fracture depth to tooth length was 0.59 and mean ratio of fracture width to tooth width 0.53. The limitations of the study are its small sample size, retrospective nature and lack of control group to compare extraction success in PMMA and non-PMMA groups. It was concluded that using PMMA to stabilise displaced sagittal fractures in equine cheek teeth is a simple, effective method of facilitating intraoral extraction and may reduce the need for more invasive procedures.  相似文献

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Dysfunction of the glossopharyngeal nerve has been implicated as a cause of dysphagia in horses. However, recent studies have indicated that this is not the case. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve anaesthesia would cause dysphagia in horses or result in measurable alterations in the timing, function, or sequence of swallowing. METHODS: Swallowing was evaluated in 6 normal horses with and without bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve anaesthesia. Swallowing dynamics were assessed subjectively and objectively based on time from prehension of food until swallowing, number of tongue movements until initiation of swallowing, depth of bolus at the base of the tongue prior to initiation of swallow and evidence of tracheal aspiration using fluoroscopy and endoscopy. RESULTS: There was no evidence of aspiration or dysphagia in horses before or after bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve block. No observed or measured differences in swallowing sequence or function could be detected in blocked compared to unblocked horses. However, there was a trend in blocked horses for the number of tongue pushes and the time to swallowing to be increased. CONCLUSIONS: Glossopharyngeal nerve function may not be essential for normal swallowing function in otherwise healthy horses. POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: Clinically, normal swallowing is not an appropriate test of glossopharyngeal nerve function and dysphagic horses should not be assumed to have glossopharyngeal nerve dysfunction.  相似文献

Endotracheal intubation is commonly performed in horses undergoing general anaesthesia to avoid fluid aspiration and provide mechanical ventilation and inhalational anaesthetic agents. Secondary laryngeal and tracheal trauma following intubation is not rare. This case report describes the successful treatment of a horse with laryngeal and tracheal trauma secondary to intubation during myelography. Based on other clinical reports and clinical experience, movement of the endotracheal tube during myelography was considered the most likely cause of the damage. This case underscores the importance of monitoring horses for development of respiratory signs after general anaesthesia for computerised tomography and myelography.  相似文献

Although horses are affected by cranial nerve disease, our understanding of these structures' imaging anatomy is limited, and the optimal modality for imaging of each of these nerves is unclear. The aim of this study was to describe the imaging appearance of the equine cranial nerves on high‐resolution 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans of a cadaver head, and with these as standards, examine the utility of MRI and CT performed in clinical cases. High‐resolution MRI and CT images were prospectively acquired of the head of a normal Thoroughbred gelding following euthanasia. Ten clinical cases undergoing high‐field MRI under general anaesthesia and 10 clinical cases undergoing CT in the standing horse under sedation were retrospectively evaluated by three reviewers to assess cranial nerve visibility. On high‐resolution, thin‐slice, MRI scans of the normal cadaver head, each of the 12 cranial nerves and their topographic location could be appreciated. On high‐resolution cadaver CT, cranial nerves II, V and VII were clearly visible, but others were less easily identified; osseous structures were clearly visualised. Clinical MRI and CT allowed for variable visualisation of the cranial nerves, dependent on the sequence and the orientation of scan planes. High‐field MRI allowed excellent visualisation of equine cranial nerves, whereas CT allowed for more detailed visualisation of the osseous canals and foramina. In live horses, the ability to identify all 12 nerves is challenging with either MRI or CT; however, high‐field MRI enables better visualisation of the nerve bundles than CT.  相似文献

Reasons for performing study: To determine the sedative, analgesic and anaesthetic drugs and techniques that are used by equine veterinarians. Hypothesis or objectives: To provide equine veterinarians with information concerning veterinary use of anaesthetic techniques, a reflection of the collective experiences of the profession. Methods: A survey was conducted of those members of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) with an electronic mail address on file with the organisation using proprietary, web‐based software. The survey was comprised of 30 questions divided into 8 sections: nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs; local anaesthesia; alternative techniques; standing chemical restraint; epidural anaesthesia; short‐term anaesthesia; long‐term anaesthesia; and a place for the respondent to make comments. Results: The response rate was 13.8% (952/6911) AAEP member veterinarians primarily use phenylbutazone and flunixin as anti‐inflammatory drugs, and lidocaine and mepivacaine for local anaesthesia. Combinations of drugs are preferred for standing chemical restraint. While many veterinarians frequently utilise short‐term anaesthesia, longer anaesthesia is less frequently performed. Conclusions: Most AAEP member veterinarians use sedatives in combination to provide standing chemical restraint. Extra‐label use of drugs is a core component of current equine sedation and anaesthetic practice. The inhalational anaesthetic agent isoflurane was administered to 22 dogs and 21 horses undergoing a variety of surgical procedures. Satisfactory anaesthesia was produced in all the animals. The cardiopulmonary changes were similar to those observed with halothane. Rapid changes in the depth of anaesthesia were achieved and recovery from anaesthesia was rapid in both dogs and horses, which was a reflection of the relative insolubility of isoflurane. Recovery from anaesthesia in the horses was particularly smooth and rapid with the animals spending a greater part of their recumbency in the sternal position, as opposed to lateral recumbency, before standing in a well coordinated manner.  相似文献
