A part of the territory of the Czech Republic represents the up-dated northern limit of distribution (status 1997) which the Russian wheat aphid (=RWA),Diuraphis noxia (Kurdj.) has reached during its expansion from the southeast to central Europe. The newly defined area is classified as one of the adventive routes which may be derived from the main expansion of RWA from its native home (central-western Asia) into the broader Mediterranean area. Distribution and its history, and ecology (life-cycle, host plants, seasonal history, both native and introduced natural enemies) of RWA are presented on ground of field evidence and trials obtained in 1995–1997 in the Czech Republic. The origin of RWA, its distribution and establishment in the target area, as well as prognosis of its further expansion, are reviewed and discussed. Steps and approaches to RWA detection in the crop, as well as some notes on its management, are added.  相似文献

Flight patterns of migrant alate Russian wheat aphids (=RWA),Diuraphis noxia (Kurdj.) during its expansion from the south-east to Central Europe were determined. Samples were taken by Rothamsted-type suction air traps in Hungary (one location, 1990–1997) and in the Czech Republic (5 locations, 1994–1998). The results document a progressive expansion of RWA, and population variation in the individual years and periods of the season. A comparison of the evidence on RWA in the individual years since its detection in Hungary and in the Czech Republic supports the presumption on the occurrence of an expansion route from the south-east (Turkey) to Central Europe. This expansion is classified as an adventive route of the over-all expansion that has covered the whole West-Mediterranean (South Europe, North Africa).  相似文献

A supplementary research on Russian wheat aphid (= RVA), Diuraphis noxia (Kurdj.) between 1998-99 documented the pest distribution all over the Czech republic already. RVA abundance was proved to be significantly area-dependent within the state. The banker areas are in southern Moravia (district Znojmo, the frontier area near Austria) up to central Moravia. The determined RWA distribution area is much broader than presumed on grounds of climatic characteristics.The abundance of RVA generally decreases from the SE to the NW and N direction, as well as with the increasing altitude within the area.The highest altitude a.s.l. of RWA occurrence in the crop was 762 in. The re-classified main expansion route was determined to follow two directions (sourcing from Hungary and Austria) to southern-central-northem Moravia, and to southern Bohemia and further on to the central Bohemian lowland. The field information indicated the development of preference of RWA for barley.  相似文献

Summary The Russian wheat aphid (=RWA), Diuraphis noxia (Kurdj.) is an exotic expansive aphid on the small grains determined in the Czech republic since 1993 (1995). Determination of RWA flight patterns by suction air traps (= SATs) between 1994-1998 indicated some banker, less important, or indicated RWA distribution areas. A comparison of the RWA monitoring by SATs and by crop samples in areas more or less distant from individual SAT locations manifested a high silmilarity of RWA evidence in its overall distribution and area-influenced population numbers. Owing to geographic area-dependent features of its life-cycle (holocycly) and host plant preferences, RWA seems to be most injurious to spring barley. In spite of the role of SATs in aphid forecasting, RWA samples are recommended to be taken also from the crops at the early ripening stage as the respective SAT evidence reflects only the emigration of the alate aphids originating from the decreasing populations. In general, RWA detection by SATs was either simultaneously or successively found to reflect the RWA presence in the more or less distant crops. The 30km perimeter of a SAT is agreed to be representative for mon-toring RWA populations in a sampled area.  相似文献

Cool and wet weather in some periods of the season generally supressed the RWA (Diuraphis noxia Kurdj.) populations in the Czech republic in 2001. However, some sites manifested population levels ranging out of the population mean stated per area, and these sites were also apparently responsible for respective peaks of alate aphids sampled by suction traps. An analysis of these sites determined them to be attributed to some poor quality barley fields in a warmer area of the state. RWA is known to vary in all-over populations in different years, and the year 2001 illustrated its capability of its surviving even unfavourable periods and seasons, remaining well-established in the area.  相似文献

Two hot and dry weather periods during mid-spring and early summer caused severe drought-stress to barley groves in many districts of the Czech Republic in 2000. Although not generally taken into consideration as an injury-increasing factor, the Russian wheat aphid (=?RWA), Diuraphis noxia (Kurdj.), was discovered to contribute significantly to injury in the ripening stage of spring barley as well as to the substantial decrease of yield (up to 30?–?40?% of the calculated mean, in some districts). RWA increased considerably not only in the lowland banker areas but also in the higher altitudes, values in the latter case then manifesting those found in the lowland banker areas in the previous years.  相似文献

Red wood ants (Formica rufa group, RWAs) are common insects in boreal forests in Fennoscandia, and they build large, long-lived mounds as their nests. RWA mounds are enriched with carbon and nutrients, but little information is available about how they affect root distribution and the nutrient uptake of trees. In this study, we investigated the biomass, biomass density, nutrient concentrations, and amounts of fine (<2 mm) and coarse (>2 mm) roots in RWA mounds, and compared them with those of surrounding forest soil in mixed coniferous stands of different age classes in Finland. Neither fine nor coarse root biomasses differed significantly between the aboveground parts of the mounds and the organic layer of the soil. Root biomass density was lower in mounds than in the organic layer. However, fine root biomass and biomass density were higher in the belowground parts of mounds than in the surrounding mineral soil. Macroelement (N, Ca, K, P, S, Mg) and Zn and Cu concentrations in roots in the mounds were significantly higher than those in the organic layer. Root biomass and biomass density did not differ between stands of different age classes. The results of this study indicate that RWA mounds increase heterogeneity in root distribution in forest ecosystems, and also increase the availability of nutrients for plants that extend their roots inside RWA mounds.  相似文献

Ten Egyptian and imported entomopathogenic nematodes were evaluated for their pathogenicity to R. ferrugineus in both the laboratory and the field. In the laboratory, most nematodes were pathogenic to the pest larvae, pupae and adults. Larvae and adults were more susceptible to nematode infection (mostly 100?% mortality) than pupae enclosed in their cocoons. In the field however, the highest insect larval mortality was 66.67?% and most of nematodes failed in controlling the pest. Such failure could be due to hot weather, the tunnelling behaviour of the pest larvae and the too much sap in the infested sites in the trunks of palm trees.  相似文献

A number of 683 small mammals representing 10 species was captured at 9 different localities of the Kochelsee-fen in 1980. Among them there were 169 (24,7%) of yellow-necked field mice (A. flavicollis) and 147 (21,5%) of bank voles (C. glareolus). The biotops and ecological demands of both of species are described. Than the results of studies on length, weight, age, reproduction, male/female relation as well on population development are given and discussed. Finally the both species of Muridae are compared relative to ecologic valence and density. A. flavicollis showed be bounded to trees,C. glareolus to shrubs. Both of species together were distributed at high density only in one of the nine localities controlled: in an ash tree—grey alder—wood. HereC. glareolus dominated in spring probably due to the less winter mortality. In autumnA. flavicollis was dominant, probably due to the higher quote of reproduction.  相似文献

Jatropha curcas (L.) has gained popularity as a biodiesel plant to serve as an alternative fuel source and generate income to small landholders. The success of J. curcas as alternative fuel source and income generation depends on the identification of genetically divergent materials of the plant and developing superior planting stocks for farmers. This paper presents genetic diversity assessment of 40 representative accessions drawn from 90 accessions collected from ten regions of Ghana based on their seed yield performance. Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis on the 40 accessions with ten primers revealed an average polymorphism of 24.99%. Genotype Genotype*Environmental biplot analysis which incorporates divergence effects due to genotype (PC1) and interactions between genotype and field parameters (PC2) was 44.7%. Hence the RAPD information indicates narrow genetic diversity among the accessions used in the study and J. curcas germplasm in Ghana. It is therefore recommended that local germplasm of J. curcas should be officially conserved and immediate efforts be made to widen the genetic base through research and introduction from other regions.  相似文献

Exports of Tongan watermelons to New Zealand were banned in November 1985 due to encounter ofD. xanthodes maggots. Testing of standard quarantine treatments (methyl bromid fumigation) is rendered difficult due to low infestation rates of fruits in the field, and unsuitability of the host for maggot survival. For experimental testing of mortality rates inD. xanthodes due to both fumigation and host insuitability maggots were reared in papaya, and third instars were transplanted into watermelons before treatment. Four types of handling were tested. (A) two fumigated series with either (A 1) 300 maggots per fruit, rind replaced and sealed with tape, and five holes punched, or (A 2) 200 maggots per fruit, paraffin wax sealed, and one hole. Treatment was 32 g/m3 of methyl bromide for 4 h. (B) two control series with 200 maggots per fruit, wax and one hole, one batch (B 1) kept for 4–5 days, the other (B 2) transported twice and kept for 4 days. Number of maggots treated were 42,400, and numbers of maggots in the control trials were 20,400. Initial mortality of larvae was 98% (A 1), 44% (A 2), 35% (B 1), and 17% (B 2). Initial development into pupae was 1.9% (A 1), 2.5% (A 2), 11.9% (B 1), and 7.7% (B 2). Total mortality (development into adults) was 100% (A 1, and A 2), 97% (B 1), and 97% (B 2).  相似文献

In Ireland, the grey field slug (Deroceras reticulatum) is the predominant slug pest species in arable crops. It can cause enormous damage, but the knowledge about its feeding biology is limited. Adult species were reared under laboratory conditions, and the survival, feeding activity, and weight change of slugs when feed on maize, peas, or wheat seeds were investigated. An especially high mortality was experienced in the wheat treatment. It was hypothesised that the high mortality was due to a Fusarium species, however, a Fusarium infection of the wheat seeds was not confirmed. The weight change of the slugs was very variable due to a high egg production of some slugs. A second experiment examined the food choice and feeding activity of D. reticulatum when offered a choice of the three seed types. Most of the slugs preferred to feed on a mixture of seeds, but the highest feeding activity was recorded on the pea seeds.  相似文献

Understanding the seed rain and seed loss dynamics in the natural condition has important significance for revealing the natural regeneration mechanisms. We conducted a 3-year field observation on seed rain, seed loss and natural regeneration of Castanopsis fargesii Franch., a dominant tree species in evergreen broad-leaved forests in Dujiangyan, southwestern China. The results showed that: (1) there were marked differences in (mature) seed production between mast (733,700 seeds in 2001) and regular (51,200 and 195,600 seeds in 2002 and 2003, respectively) years for C. fargesii. (2) Most seeds were dispersed in leaf litter, humus and 0–2 cm depth soil in seed bank. (3) Frequency distributions of both DBH and height indicated that C. fargesii had a relatively stable population. (4) Seed rain, seed ground density, seed loss, and leaf fall were highly dynamic and certain quantity of seeds were preserved on the ground for a prolonged time due to predator satiation in both the mast and regular years so that the continuous presence of seed bank and seedling recruitments in situ became possible. Both longer time observations and manipulative experiments should be carried out to better understand the roles of seed dispersal and regeneration process in the ecosystem performance.  相似文献

A field trial was conducted to investigate the use of peas (Pisum sativum cv. Valverde), wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Capo) and oilseed radish (Raphanus sativus var. oleiformis cv. Adagio) as trap crops to control wireworm in potato fields. We investigated the efficacy of trap crops and distance of attraction by counting larvae in both potato and trap crop rows. Wireworms of the genera Agriotes, Adrastus and Hemicrepidius were observed. In the plots planted with peas as a trap crop, significantly more wireworms were observed than in the other treatments, which was clearly due to the influence of the trap crop pea. The potato rows 0.75 m away from the peas showed 2.4 times more larvae than the potato rows 1.5 m away. This may be due to a decrease of the peas’ attractiveness over time (Miles and Petherbridge 1927), with wireworms that were initially attracted to the peas moving back to the nearby potatoes. In the plots planted with wheat, oilseed radish and the control (bare soil instead of a trap crop), there was no significant difference in numbers of larvae between the potato rows. In the control plots, significantly more larvae were found in the potato rows than in the bare soil. We assessed the damage to potato tubers by weighing them and counting the wireworm holes. Our results indicate that peas are more attractive to wireworms than potatoes and might be an effective trap crop if the right timing and spacing relative to the potatoes is found.  相似文献

Sesamia cretica larvae infected with the bacterium,Serratia marcescens orBacillus thuringiensis were exposed toBracon brevicornis females, separately and in combination with non-infected larvae in the laboratory. Host larvae were exposed to the parasitoid under two manipulations “the larvae still alive or dead completely”. The architecture and growth pattern of early (Alnus nepalensis and Schima khasiana) and late (Machilus kingii, Quercus dealbata and Q. griffithii) successional tree species in a sub-tropical montane, humid, evergreen forest at Upper Shillong (1900 m) in north-east India were analyzed and related to their ecological strategy for niche occupancy in the forest ecosystem. In the early successional species the architectural development pattern and growth design are geared to maximize production under high light environments. These trees have an indeterminate pattern of shoot growth, a prolonged growth period with greater extension growth and rhythmicity (except for A. nepalensis with continuous growth) and branch mainly by syllepsis. These species emphasize vertical growth at the expense of lateral spread. In contrast, the late successional species make modest growth under a determinate scheme, the growth being confined to preformed bud primordia for a brief period of the growing season. There is less rhythmicity in growth and branch productin is by prolepsis. These species emphasize lateral spread, as an adaptation to highly competitive environments. In forest situations these species have one determinate flush of shoot growth only but in open situations there were two such flushes. Bifurcation ratio values are found to vary in forest and open situations, suggesting the capacity of the species to adjust their architecture to changed light conditions.  相似文献

Red wood ants (RWAs) play an important role as predators and competitors in invertebrate communities in forest ecosystems. The abundance of RWAs in managed forest clear-cut areas was investigated in 2007 in Western Poland. The ants were counted in 1 × 1 m squares along transects that led from the edge to the centre of clear-cut areas. Squares that contained RWAs were located significantly closer to the edge as compared with squares without ants. The RWA density decreased significantly from the edge to the centre of clear-cut area. The pattern of the decrease of RWAs towards the clear-cut area centre may have serious consequences for ant-sensitive invertebrates. It can be expected that species richness and species diversity of invertebrates will be affected by forest clear-cut areas, which generate ant-free conditions.  相似文献

Populus suffers from multiple insect damage throughout its distributional range in northwestern India. The evaluation of various management tools was done based on the hypothesis that manipulation of insect habitat can provide tangible results. Manipulation of cultural practices, ploughing of field during December, and growing of crops (wheat, Trifolium alexandrinum and others) results in lower adult emergence, reduced leaf infestation, number of larvae and pupae per meter branch length of poplar leaf defoliators (PLD). Fallow plantations were more prone to attack of PLD than intercropped plantations. Higher incidence of Clostera restitura was recorded in southwestern dry zones due to unsuitability of the site, poor quality of irrigation water and dry weather conditions. Complete stripping of Populus trees does not occur in low temperature & high humidity, submountaneous zones of Punjab. Chemical control studies were conducted in laboratory & field conditions, and among the five insecticides tested, Profenophos 50 EC, Quinalphos 25 EC and Carbaryl 50 WP @ 0.05 and 0.1 percent concentration gave consistently high mortality of PLD larvae up to 21 days after spraying. Use of insecticides prior to peak activity periods & during evening hours enhances the efficiency of management options.  相似文献

A new method is proposed for estimating vitality or growth potential for saplings of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), based on height, diameter and height increment. A two-stage process was used to establish the vitality index. The logarithms of height, diameter and height increment were regressed against age, to adjust for the wide range of ages present in our data (c. 10,000 saplings with ages spanning 4–50 years). Then principal component analysis was used to obtain coefficients, which were, in turn, standardized on each axis to provide a vitality index scaled in standard deviations. This standardized scale allows the rank of an individual in the population to be assessed, and draws attention to possible outliers. The use of age-adjusted residuals ensured that the estimator was independent of age, and stable over a wide age range. The first principal component indicates if a sapling is relatively tall (weight = 0.5), thick (w = 0.5) or fast-growing (w = 0.7) for its age. Most of the information is contained in the first principal component, but the second component, which explains about 10% of the variance, appears to offer some utility as an indicator of ‘acceleration’ due to changing conditions. The resulting measures of vitality have been useful for research and management in the dry lichen-moss pine forest in Russian Karelia, but are specific to this species, locality and ecotype. Further research and site-specific data are necessary to adapt the system to other situations.  相似文献
