Twenty-four farinograms and accompanying flour characteristics obtained from a bakery were used to get additional information for baking characteristics of flours. Farinograms were digitized and four novel parameters were included for comparison: a and b were extracted from an equation of the form y = aebt; the height of the upper curve and the width of the farinograph curve at a time value equal to the dough development time. Stepwise multiple regressions were carried out relating bread volume to novel and existing parameters (water absorption, development time, arrival time, departure time, stability and degree of softening). Results indicated that four farinogram parameters, resistance, water absorption, a and b were related to bake height with an overall value of 61%. A relatively weak correlation (R = 0.44, P < 0.05) was detected between specific loaf volume and bake height.  相似文献

Timely sowing is critical for achieving high grain yields in winter cereals. However, inadequate seed-zone moisture for germination commonly delays sowing to reduce biomass and subsequent yield in semi-arid environments. Sowing deep to reach soil moisture is often avoided by growers of Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b semi-dwarf wheat as these wheat show poor emergence when sown deep. Their reduced cell elongation associated with insensitivity to endogenous gibberellins, results in shorter coleoptiles and smaller early leaf area. Alternative dwarfing genes responsive to endogenous gibberellins (e.g. Rht8) are available for use in wheat breeding. These reduce plant height without affecting coleoptile length and offer potential to select longer coleoptile wheat for deep sowing. Nine semidwarf (Rht8, Rht-B1b, and Rht-D1b) and seven tall (rht) wheat genotypes were sown at depths of 50, 80 and 110 mm at three locations in 2 or 3 years. Coleoptile lengths measured in a growth cabinet at four temperatures (11, 15, 19 and 23 °C) were strongly correlated with coleoptile length (rp = 0.77–0.79**) and plant number (rp = 0.49*–0.79**) in deep-sown plots in the field. Furthermore, differences in coleoptile length were genetically correlated with greater numbers of emerged seedlings (rg = 0.97**), shallower crown depth (−0.58**), greater seedling leaf area (0.59**) and seedling biomass (0.44*). Wheat containing the Rht-B1b or Rht-D1b dwarfing genes produced significantly (P < 0.01) shorter coleoptiles (97 mm) than both Rht8 (118 mm) and tall (117 mm) wheat. In turn, compared with emergence from 50 mm depth, the Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b wheat produced significantly fewer seedlings at 110 mm sowing depth (−62%) than either Rht8 (−41%) or tall (−37%) wheat. Effects of deep sowing early in the season were maintained with reductions in spike number and biomass at both anthesis and maturity. Kernel number was also reduced with deep sowing leading to reductions in grain yield. Over all entries, genotypic increases in plant number were associated with increases in fertile spike (rg = 0.61**) and kernel number (0.21*), total biomass (0.26*) and grain yield (0.28*). Reduction in spike number and grain yield with deep sowing was smallest for the Rht8 (−18 and −10%) and rht (−15 and −7%) wheat, and largest for the Rht-B1b/D1b (−39 and −16%) wheat. Plant height and coleoptile length were independent among Rht8 and tall wheat genotypes. This study demonstrates the importance of good seedling emergence in achieving high wheat yields, and the potential use of alternative dwarfing genes such as Rht8 in development of long coleoptile, reduced height wheat suitable for deep sowing.  相似文献

This study explored whether the average grain weight of wheat tends to be reduced when grain number is increased due to either competition or, to a consistent increase in the relative proportion of grains of smaller weight potential. Three field experiments considering environmental, genetic and environmental × genetic effects on yield and its main components were analysed during the 2003/2004 growing season in two different locations within the Mediterranean area of Catalonia, Spain. The relationship between grain weight and number of grains per unit land area was analysed for both the average of all grains (AGW) and for grains in specific positions of the main-shoot spikes: proximal (CPg) and distal (CDg) grains of central spikelets, and proximal grains of the near apical (APg) and near basal (BPg) spikelets. The proportional contribution of grains per spike for the different grain positions and the relative contribution of spikes per m2 made by the main shoot or tillers were also examined. In the three experiments, AGW was reduced when grain number was increased due to genetic and/or environmental factors. However, the slopes of the straight-lines that represented the negative relationship between grain number and grain weight were lower (less negative) and less significant for CPg (b = −0.20, P > 0.20), CDg (b = 0.06, P > 0.20) and BPg (b = −0.21, P > 0.20) than for AGW (b = −0.40, P < 0.05). The proportional contribution of distal grains and tiller spikes (both with relatively light grains) were directly related to grain number increases. Therefore, as grain number increased there was a higher proportion of grains of low potential weight. Thus, the average grain weight was concomitantly reduced when grain number increased by increasing the proportion of “small grains” in the canopy independently of any competitive relationship between growing grains.  相似文献

Traditional instruments used to evaluate dough and/or gluten rheological properties do not provide unambiguous separation of elastic and viscous behaviors. Recovery after shear creep and cyclic large deformation cyclic tensile testing were used here to decouple elastic and viscous effects. A large variation in the recoverable shear strain (∼7.2% to ∼28%) was seen for glutens from 15 U.S. popular common wheat cultivars with varying HMW subunits. Sedimentation values ranged from 29 to 57 ml for 12 hard wheat cultivars and 15 to 22 ml for three soft wheat cultivars. The tensile force at 500% extension ranged from 0.12 to 0.67 N for hard wheat glutens and from 0.10 to 0.20 for soft wheat glutens. However, the recoverable work after large extension was less than 40% of the total work of extension. In addition, recoverable work in tensile testing was highly correlated with the total work of extension (r2 = 0.97) and mixograph mix times (r2 = 0.81). Good to excellent bread volume was obtained for several cultivars from this sample set. This suggests that optimizing water absorption for mixing doughs to achieve maximal bread volume compensates for the wide range of viscoelastic behaviors of gluten.  相似文献

The color (L*, a*, b* parameters), the total phenols content and the global chemical composition (moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrates and ash) of four fresh varieties of olive leaves (Chemlali, Chemchali, Zarrazi and Chetoui) were determined. Fresh olive leaves are characterized by a green color (greenness parameter, a*, varying from ?5.01 ± 0.26 to ?9.14 ± 1.21), an intermediate moisture content (0.85 to 1.00 g/g dry matter, i.e. 46 to 50 g/100 g fresh matter) and a variable amount of total phenols according to the olive leaf variety (from ≈2.32 to ≈1.40 g caffeic acid/100 g dry matter).Fresh leaves were submitted to blanching and/or infrared drying at 40, 50, 60 and 70 °C in order to be stabilized by reducing their moisture contents. The impact of IR drying temperature on some quality attributes (color, total phenols and moisture rate removal) was evaluated. Nevertheless, the effect of prior blanching treatment on the quality attributes of dried leaves is less significant and it depends on the olive leaf variety. The infrared drying induces a considerable moisture removal from the fresh leaves (more than 85%) and short drying durations (varying from ≈162 at 40 °C to 15 min at 70 °C). IR drying temperature showed a significant effect of on total phenols content and the color of the leaves whatever the leaf variety. In fact, total phenols content of dried olive leaves increased if compared to fresh ones. For example, total phenols of Chemlali leaves increased from 1.38 ± 0.02 (fresh leaves) to 2.13 ± 0.29 (dried at 40 °C) and to 5.14 ± 0.60 g caffeic acid/100 g dry matter (dried at 70 °C). IR drying allows preserving the greenness color of fresh leaves and enhancing their luminosity. It could be suggested for preserving olives leaves before their use in food or cosmetic applications.  相似文献

The prominent effects of a soil surface crust on crop production, impedance to seedling emergence and reduced infiltration rate, were examined using a quantitative land evaluation model under the Sahelian environmental and soil conditions of north-central Burkina Faso. The model integrated data from climate, soil and crop for quantifying potential grain yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), grown on a sandy loam soil for 14 production years (1977–1990). Crust development was induced using `simulated rainfall' with an intensity of 75 mm h−1 from a 2 m height. Results revealed that seeding sorghum in small holes without sufficiently breaking the surface crust depressed grain yield. Observed and potential yield correlated closely over a 7-year period (r = 0.79, p < = 0.05). Substantial yield gap was found between estimated potential yield (crust broken scenario set to 75% of the predicted yield) and observed, indicating however, the possibility of significantly improving yield by using appropriate tillage to break the crust before seeding.  相似文献

Two modelling approaches were used to quantify photoperiod and temperature responses of time from emergence to visible flower buds in nine quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) cultivars. The first, non-interactive model, considers temperature and photoperiod responses as independent, and the threshold photoperiod, critical photoperiod, and base temperatures as constants. The second, interactive model, considers these attributes as variable, and allows for interaction between photoperiod and temperature responses. Controlled-environment experiments with a factorial combination of temperature and photoperiod provided information on responses, and data from field experiments were utilized in tests of the predictive capacity of the models. The two models were very similar in their goodness of fit and predictive capacity, but testing revealed that some assumptions about the interactive model were not fulfilled, whereas the non-interactive model is more consistent with the data. Both the models failed to predict dates of visible flower buds when average temperatures during the phase were >20°C; it is proposed that interaction between irradiance receipt and high temperature in controlled environments result in lower optimum temperatures there than in the field. Differences between field data and predicted values were eliminated when predictions were recalculated assuming no optimum for the temperature response. All nine cultivars examined are short-day plants. A juvenile sub-phase was observed in the six cultivars for which it was tested; and its duration was negatively associated with the latitude of origin of the lines (R2 = 0.9, p < 0.05). Photoperiod sensitivity was negatively associated with the latitude of origin of the lines (R2 = 0.55, p < 0.05) and positively associated with duration of the basic vegetative phase (minimal time between emergence and visible flower buds) (R2 = 0.55, p < 0.05) using the non-interactive model. Photoperiod and temperature response parameters were not significantly associated with the latitude of origin for the interactive model (p > 0.05).  相似文献

The magnitude of relationships among different traits is important in plant breeding programs to identify the best selection criteria and improve the efficiency of selection. This study was conducted to determine relationships between seed yield and seed oil content with other important agronomic traits among 36 diverse accessions of Vernonia (Vernonia galamensis variety ethiopica), a potentially novel industrial oilseed crop. Field evaluations were conducted during 2005, 2006 and 2007 at the Limpopo Province in South Africa using a partially balanced lattice design. Simple correlation and path analysis were performed to identify the best selection criteria for increased seed yield and seed oil content. Simple correlation and path analyses revealed that the formation of productive primary heads strongly associated with increased seed yield (rg = 0.81, p < 0.001). Furthermore, path analysis indicated selection for increased number of primary heads would bring about simultaneous and favorable change towards reduced days to maturity and shorter plant height. Further associational study of traits with seed oil content showed a significant (p < 0.05) correlation between oil content with 1000 seed weight (rg = 0.4). The path analysis, however, exposed seed yield followed by 1000 seed weight with significant direct effect on seed oil content. The study demonstrated that selection for increased number of productive primary heads is the principal selection criterion to improve seed yield. Whereas selection for 1000 seed weight and increased seed yield serve as major selection criteria to achieve increased oil content in V. galemanesis.  相似文献

The grain yield of normal oil maize (Zea mays L.) might increase when pollinated by high oil maize (HOM) hybrids because of heterosis. To testify that the grain yield increase might be a result of improved photosynthetic rate and related traits, the normal oil maize (NOM) hybrid, Nongda108, was cross-pollinated by three HOM hybrids, HOM202, HOM115 and HOM4515 (for short as ND108pHOM202, ND108pHOM115 and ND108pHOM4515). We found that the ND108pHOM202 and ND108pHOM115 exhibited higher net photosynthetic rate (Pn), accompanied by larger stomatal conductance (gs) and transpiration rate (E). Moreover, delayed leaf senescence was observed in their leaves, including larger leaf area index (LAI) and higher Chl content and Chl a/b ratio. Apart from higher phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) activity, the soluble proteins were also higher in the two cross-pollinations. The higher leaf photosynthesis could explain the grain increase in ND108pHOM202 and ND108pHOM115. However, ND108pHOM4515 exhibited a decreased photosynthetic characteristic and yield performance. Significantly positive relation between grain yield and biomass (r2 = 0.96, P < 0.05), Pn and biomass (r2 = 0.74, P < 0.05) also suggested that the yield increase in the two cross-pollination treatments was generally owing to the higher photosynthetic rate and related photosynthetic traits.  相似文献

Breeding program strategies to develop novel short grain white rice varieties such as japonica (short grain) that introgress biotic stress resistance and high grain quality have been developed using indica rice (Pin Kaset + 4 and Riceberry) for applications in japonica rice (Koshihikari) improvement. Four breeding lines showing promising agronomic performance with short grain and low amylose content (< 20%) were obtained. In addition, sensory testing of these breeding lines showed high scores that similar to Koshihikari. Two promising lines, KP48-1-5 and KP48-1-9, which possessed a combination of four genes resistance to different biotic stresses (Bph3 + TPS + Xa21 + Pi-ta) and four genes for grain quality (GS3 + SSIIa + wxb + badh2), were developed using marker-assisted selection (MAS) with the pedigree method. The current study clearly illustrated the successful use of MAS in combining resistance to multiple biotic stresses while maintaining a high yield potential and preferred grain quality. Moreover, the results indicated that this breeding program, which includes crossing temperate japonica with indica, can create novel short grain rice varieties adapted to a tropical environment, like the japonica type.  相似文献

Stigma exsertion is an important trait for outcrossing ability in rice. Stigma exsertion rate (SER) of male sterile lines (MSLs) is a key factor affecting F1-seed production in hybrid rice. In this study, seven QTLs for SER were detected on five chromosomes using a set of single-segment substitution lines (SSSLs) derived from O. glaberrima. Three of the QTLs were mapped in the estimated intervals of 92.5–333.0 kb. qSER-5 was located in a substitution segment of 92.5 kb. qSER-1b and qSER-8b were respectively limited to 333.0 kb and 107.5 kb by secondary substitution mapping. qSER-1b and qSER-3 had bigger additive effects of 11.5% and 11.9%, respectively, while the other five QTLs had smaller additive effects from 5.7% to 8.6%. Open reading frames were identified in the regions of qSER-5 and qSER-8b in O. sativa and O. glaberrima genomes. Fine mapping of the QTLs laid a foundation for the cloning of genes, and QTLs for SER will be used to develop MSLs with strong ability of outcrossing.  相似文献

Steam explosion of corn stalk in the presence of 3% sulphuric acid at 200 °C for 5 min gave the highest recovery of lignin. Lignin has Mw = 2640 and Mz = 93,994. In the UV spectrum absorptions at λ = 231 and 280 nm were recorded. 1H NMR spectrum of lignin showed signals attributable to cinnamaldehyde units, guaiacyl units, and syringyl units. Syringyl and guaiacyl units are in 1:1 ratio. 13C NMR spectrum showed signals for guaiacyl, syringyl, and p-hydroxyphenyl units. The spectrum showed a prevalence of guaiacyl units. The 13C NMR spectrum is in agreement with the presence of cinnamic units. The same characterization was performed on lignin from pine. The irradiation of lignin from pine from steam explosion process in the presence of oxygen, in conditions described for the formation of superoxide ion, for different irradiation time was followed isolating the lignin and determining the average molecular weight. The experiments showed that, until 8 h irradiation, Mn decreases, while Mw and Mz increases. After 8 h irradiation an inverse behaviour was observed, with an increase of Mn and a decrease of Mw and Mz. These results are in agreement with an initial polymerization process followed by a photoinduced degradation. Ozonization was carried out in acetonitrile–methanol solution. The reaction showed a zero-order kinetics. After 50 min the average molecular weight of lignin is the half. The reaction mixture was analyzed by using GC–MS. Oxalic acid was determined.  相似文献

Effect of pressing time on physical and mechanical properties of phenolic-impregnated bamboo strips was evaluated. Bamboo strips (Gigantochloa scortechinii) were impregnated with low molecular weight phenol formaldehyde (LMwPF) resin. Samples were submerged in LMwPF resin using a vacuum chamber of 750 mmHg for 1 h before it was released within 1.5 h. Treated strips were dried in an oven with a temperature of 60 °C within 6–9 h. It was hot pressed at 14 kg m?2 and a temperature of 140 °C for 5, 8, 11, 14 and 17 min. The physical and mechanical properties of the test indicated that the properties of phenolic-treated strips have significantly increased as compared to control samples. Dimensional stability (water absorption, thickness swelling and linear expansion) of the phenolic-treated properties were significantly lower than control after 5-min pressing time. The antishrink efficiency (ASE) of phenolic-treated strips increased when pressing time were extended from 5 to 17 min. The mean value of modulus of rupture (MOR) for the control samples (177 N mm?2) showed a significant difference with phenolic-treated strips after 17-min pressing time (224 N mm?2). However, there is no significant difference in compression parallel to grain. The MOE of phenolic-treated strips was 21,777 N mm?2 and for control was 18,249 N mm?2, whereas the compression parallel to grain values for phenolic-treated and control samples were 94 and at 77 N mm?2, respectively.  相似文献

For maximizing water retention and attaining high yields, transplanting into puddled soil (TPR) is often considered the optimal method of rice (Orzya sativa L.) establishment. Alternative management techniques like direct seeding (DSR) and deep tillage have been proposed as mechanisms to improve soil physical properties for subsequent dry-season crops, but the risks to rice are uncertain. In this full factorial study on a valley terrace in Nepal, the influence of tillage (shallow—T1, deep chisel—T2, deep chisel + moldboard plough—T3) and establishment practice (TPR, DSR) on the field water balance and rice performance were evaluated in two adjacent landscape settings (terrace edge “upland”, central terrace “lowland”). Although deep tillage had only modest influences on seepage and percolation (SP) rates in both years (Y1, Y2), landscape placement and establishment practice had significant implications for the water balance (e.g. Y2 SP cm day−1: TPR-lowland = 1.6, DSR-lowland = 2.3, TPR-upland = 4.1, DSR-upland = 6.1). During low rainfall periods, however, soil water potential and drought vulnerability were governed solely by landscape placement. Despite water balance differences, there was little evidence that rice rooting behavior was substantially modified by landscape or establishment method. Weed biomass was higher in DSR, but was uncorrelated with water balance and productivity trends. In Y1, lower SP rates and more days with continuous flooding were positively associated with rice productivity. DSR yields were significantly lower than TPR in both landscape positions, with the lowland outperforming the upland (Y1 mt ha−1: TPR-lowland = 6.4, DSR-lowland = 5.2, TPR-upland = 5.7, DSR-upland = 4.7). To determine if N dynamics were contributing to productivity differences, fertilizer nitrogen was increased from 120 to 150 kg N ha−1 in Y2. Results suggest that DSR performance is comparable – and landscape less important – if nitrogen is non-limiting (Y2 mt ha−1: TPR-lowland = 6.9, DSR-lowland = 6.5, TPR-upland = 7.0, DSR-upland = 6.5); no aspect of the field water balance was associated with yield variability in Y2. For direct seeding in N-deficient farming systems, landscape criteria may prove useful for minimizing production risks by identifying field areas with lower SP rates.  相似文献

Maize (Zea mays L.) kernel weight (KW) response to changes in assimilate availability per kernel during grain filling suggests that plants establish an early kernel sink potential that place them to grow close to a saturating assimilate availability condition during late grain-filling, meaning source limitations are common only early in kernel development. As maize reproductive efficiency in kernel set is not constant across different plant growth rates (PGR) around flowering, we used PGR per kernel during this period as an indicator of source availability per kernel. We tested whether PGR per kernel during flowering or during the effective grain-filling period were correlated to genotypic and environmental differences in final KW. Plant growth rate during both periods, KW, kernel growth rate during the effective grain-filling period, total duration of grain filling and kernel number per plant were measured in 12 commercial genotypes differing in KW sown at two sites under full irrigation. As expected from the curvilinear response relating kernel number per plant and PGR around flowering, increased PGRs resulted in higher PGR per kernel around this period (r2 = 0.86; p < 0.001). Differences in final KW due to genotypes or environments were significantly explained by the PGR per kernel around flowering (r2 = 0.40; p < 0.001), and not by the PGR per kernel during the effective grain-filling period. Genotypes differed in kernel growth rate (p < 0.001) and grain-filling duration (p < 0.001). The former was well explained by PGR per kernel around flowering (r2 = 0.66; p < 0.001), but showed no relationship with the PGR per kernel during the effective grain-filling period. Grain-filling duration was partially explained (r2 = 0.27; p < 0.01) by the ratio between PGR per kernel during the effective grain-filling period and kernel growth rate, but differences in duration were negligible compared to those observed in the ratio (∼41% versus ∼130%, respectively). Together, these results support the importance of source availability per kernel during early grain filling on the determination of maize potential sink capacity and final KW. Early resource availability per kernel was accurately estimated as PGR per kernel around the period of kernel number determination, which helped explain genotypic and environmental differences in maize final KW as well as in kernel growth rate.  相似文献

In this work, the forward extraction of defatted wheat germ protein (DWGP) by reverse micelles was studied. The reverse micellar systems were formed by sulphosuccinic acid bis (2-ethylhexyl) ester sodium salt (AOT), isooctane and KCl solution. The effects of AOT concentration, pH, KCl concentration, extraction time, the amounts of defatted wheat germ flour (DWGF), W0 (the molar ratio of water to surfactant, i.e. W0 = [H2O]/[AOT]) and temperature on the forward extraction efficiency of DWGP were tested. On the basis of single-factor experiments, the optimum extraction was achieved by response surface methodology (RSM). The experimental results lead to the conclusion that the highest forward extraction efficiency of DWGP was reached at the AOT concentration 0.06 g/mL, pH 8, KCl concentration 0.1 mol/L, time 30 min, the amounts of DWGF 0.500 g, W0 25 and temperature 36 °C. Under these conditions, the forward extraction efficiency of DWGP achieved 37%.  相似文献

Bangladesh is currently self sufficient in rice (Oryza sativa L.), which accounts for approximately 80% of the total cropped area, and 70% of the cost of crop production. However, farmers are increasingly concerned about the perceived decline in productivity, expressed as the return on fertiliser inputs. Agronomic efficiency is a measure of the increase in grain yield achieved per unit of fertiliser input that can provide a way to quantify the observation of farmers. This study indicates that the yields achieved where only P and K fertiliser were applied ranged from 3–5 t ha−1, indicating good soil fertility, particular in terms of soil N supply (37–112 kg N ha−1). However, at recommended rates and at rates used by farmers, the yield response to application of fertiliser N was low. Data shows that grain yields were significantly correlated in both years (R2 = 0.77 and R2 = 0.67) with plant uptake in nitrogen. The internal nitrogen use efficiency seems to confirm that sink formation was limited by factors other than nitrogen. Low agronomic efficiency (5–19 kg grain kg−1 N) was caused by poor internal efficiency (45–73 kg grain kg−1 N), rather than low supply of soil N or loss of fertiliser N. Thus, often the applications of large amounts of N fertiliser (39–175 kg N ha−1) by farmers to increase yields of high yielding variety Boro rice were not justified agronomically and ecologically. A rate of 39 kg N ha−1 is very low, hardly an environmental threat. No one single factor could be identified to explain the low internal efficiency. Therefore, it is concluded that the data presented tend to confirm the indication that yields are limited by a factor other than nitrogen, which could be crop establishment, plant density, water or pest management, micro-nutrients deficiency, poor seed and transplanted seedling quality, varieties and low radiation.  相似文献

Cuphea (Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. × C. lanceolata f. silenoides W.T. Aiton, line PSR23) is a new crop being developed in the North Central United States, as an industrial oilseed crop. Cuphea PSR23 seed oil is rich in medium-chain-length fatty acids such as capric acid used to manufacture soaps and detergents. The objective of this research was to determine the time when physiological maturity of cuphea seed is reached and how seed development affects seed moisture, weight, oil content, fatty acid content, germination, and seedling vigor. To evaluate seed development, 2000 cuphea flowers were tagged at anthesis in the field at Prosper, North Dakota in 2004 and 2005. Each flower was tagged when open and the position on the main stem or branch was recorded. Two hundred capsules from the tagged flowers were harvested at 3- to 4-d intervals from 5- to 48-d post anthesis (DPA). Seed weight increased as a function of growing degree days (GDD) and the days from anthesis. Physiological maturity occurred when maximum dry seed weight was attained. Seed weight increases followed the Gompertz function with a R2 = 0.90 (2004) and R2 = 0.95 (2005). All capsules, regardless of their position on the stem, followed the same growth function for seed weight. The maximum dry seed weight estimated by the Gompertz function was 3.61 for 2004 and 3.58 mg seed−1 for 2005. Physiological maturity estimated with a quadratic function occurred at 38 DPA or 270 GDD in 2004. In 2005, physiological maturity occurred at 26 DPA or 265 GDD. As a visual indicator when the capsules split-open seeds inside that capsule are physiologically mature. Seed moisture decreased from 900 g kg−1 at 37 GDD post anthesis to 450 g kg−1 at 319 GDD post anthesis in 2004; however, in 2005 seed moisture decreased from 850 to 81 g kg−1 at 293 GDD post anthesis. Seed germination increased as seed developed and it was 83% when harvested 234 GDD post anthesis. Oil content increased from 98 g kg−1 at 37 GDD post anthesis to 279 g kg−1 319 GDD post anthesis. Fatty acid composition varied throughout seed development. Seed development for 111 GDD and greater had more than 66% of capric acid (10:0). Cuphea should be harvested after 265 GDD post anthesis when most capsules on the main stem are split-open, have attained maximum seed weight, germination, seedling vigor, and oil content.  相似文献

The genetic diversity in forty-nine Agave tequilana Weber var. Azul accessions from different regions of the Appellation of Origin Tequila, and eighteen Agave angustifolia Haw. var. Lineño accessions from the south of the state of Jalisco, were evaluated using morphological traits and RAPD (Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA) markers. Thirteen morphological characters and three different random 10-mer primers were used. Statistical analysis for these traits revealed that all of them were statistically different (α = 0.05). Three principal components (PC) accounted for 79.9% of the total variability. The number of teeth found in 10 cm, the distance between the last lateral and the apical spine, tooth length, tooth basal width, maximum distance between teeth and leaf width were the most important traits. Besides the wide morphological variation found in both varieties, we were able to separate A. angustifolia from A. tequilana in two main groups using the dendrogram (r = 0.82) and plot from the PCA analysis. The RAPD analysis generated 46 clear and reproducible fragments, 24 of them (52%) were polymorphic, and this polymorphism was higher in A. tequilana (35%) than in A. angustifolia (24%). The dendrogram that was based on RAPD data, revealed two main groups similar to the morphological analysis with some discrepancies. Despite the low correlation found between morphological and molecular data (r = 0.31), these analyses were able to separate the agave varieties used in this study and were informative and complementary.  相似文献

Cuphea (Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. × C. lanceolata W.T. Aiton; PSR23) is a potential new oilseed crop. Its oil is high in medium-chain fatty acids that are suitable for detergent/cleaner applications and also for cosmetics. The objective of this study was to determine the critical temperatures for cuphea seed germination. To determine the base, maximum, and optimum temperatures for seed germination, mature cuphea seeds were harvested from plants grown at Prosper, ND, in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Seeds were germinated on a temperature-gradient bar varying between 5 and 35 °C. Cumulative germination was calculated for each temperature treatment. Base temperature (Tb) and optimum temperature (To) were estimated from the third-order polynomial temperature-response functions for each year. In addition, germination rate per day was used in a linear model to estimate the base temperature below which germination rate was equal to zero (Tb), and the maximum temperature above which germination was equal to zero (Tm). The optimum temperature (To) was calculated as the intercept of sub-optimal and supra-optimal temperature-response functions. Through the third-order polynomial temperature-response functions and the sub-optimal/super-optimal intercept approaches, we were able to generate six estimates for each critical value. Estimates of the base temperature for cuphea seed germination ranged between 3.3 and 11 °C, with the most reliable estimates between 6 and 10 °C, similar to many warm-season crops such as corn (Zea mays L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.). The optimum temperature for cuphea seed germination ranged between 18.5 and 24 °C with a mean value of 21 °C. The maximum temperature for seed germination ranged 33–38 °C. On this basis, a cuphea planting date after 20 May is recommended for east-central North Dakota.  相似文献
