Partnerships between U.S.universities and industries have existed for several decades and in recent years have become generally more varied,wider in scope,more aggressive and experimental and higher in public visibility.In addition,in the last few decades,public and private interests have advocated for government policies and laws to globally promote the commercialization of university science.This paper examines the persistence or convergence of the two cultures of science and the implications of this commercialization for university-industry relationships in agriculture biotechnology.The perceptions and values of over 200 U.S.university and industry scientists,managers and administrators who participate in or oversee research collaborations in agricultural biotechnology were analyzed.The findings revealed that the participants in these research relationships continue to perceive very distinct cultures of science and identify a wide range of concerns and disadvantages of these partnerships.Several actions were discussed to ensure that the two cultures serve complementary roles and that they maximize the public benefits from these increasing collaborations.  相似文献

[Objective] The aim was to explore the achievement motivation of the university student village officials in the suburbs of Beijing.[Method] The research made an investigation on 429 university student village officials in the suburbs of Beijing by the Achievements Motive Scale(AMS).[Result] The achievement motivation of these student village officials was not on a high level,but they tended to pursue the success motivation rather than the motivation to avoid failures obviously.There was a significant difference in the achievement motivation between different genders,majors and jobs.The males’ motivation for success was higher than the females’.The motivation of avoiding failures among officials in Humanities was higher than in Science and in Fine Art.And the university student village officials in professional and technical posts or in business posts rated the motivation to avoid failures more important than in basic management posts.But achievement motivations in different urban-rural areas,educational levels,political backgrounds,whether student leaders or not,and durations were no definite differences.Besides,it had a significant effect on these student village officials’ achievement motivation whether advices and suggestions were accepted;if yes,the motivation was higher.[Conclusion] This study had provided stability and development for building rural talent groups.  相似文献

Detection of the presence of Anastrepha striata and Anastrepha ludens in guava cultures is presently done in Mexico by actually catching the flies in strategically located traps. The objective of this study is to show that it is possible to locate areas with the presence or absence of flies by remote sensing means, thereby simplifying the traditional way of detection of these plagues. In the field, groups of traps were selected where flies had been captured, as well as areas in which there was no capture in the traps. The radiometric signatures of whole trees and leaves were obtained, showing measurable differences between those specimens affected by the plague and those unaffected. Next we selected a SPOT5 image of 2007 corresponding to the study area in Calvillo, State of Aguascalientes, in Mexico, one of the major areas of guava cultures in the country. A supervised classification of the image allowed for the location of guava cultures in it. The guava culture areas obtained from this classification were validated comparing them to available maps of the cultured areas. Spectral signatures for the classes were derived from the image data. The separability of pairs of classes was also evaluated in order to maximize it. The IR/R (infrared to red ratio) ratio of the image bands was evaluated in 80 × 80 pixels around the locations of five traps where flies had been captured, and around five locations where the traps had not captured flies. Only the pixels where guava cultures were present were included in the analysis, other types of vegetation and soil coverage were rejected. We found that the index distributions with flies captured and those without flies captured cluster in two well-separated groups. We note that plotting the whole distribution of pixels around a trap yields a diagnostic view of the area, and individual index values do not provide such a view, since values with the flies' presence and without these overlap to some extent. Founder parents have contributed significantly to the improvement of wheat breeding and production. In order to investigate the genetic characteristics of founder parents and widely planted cultivars, Mazhamai(M), Biyumai(B) and six sibling lines(BM1–6) derived from the cross M×B were phenotyped for eight yield-related traits over multiple years and locations and genotyped using the the wheat 90 K single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) assay. BM4 has been used as a founder parent, and BM1 has been widely planted, whereas BM2, 3, 5, and 6 have not been used extensively for breeding or planting in China. Phenotypic comparisons revealed that BM4 and BM1 displayed a better overall performance than the other sibling lines. BM1 showed higher thousand-grain weight than BM4, whereas BM4 exhibited lower coefficient of variation for most of the yield-related traits across different years and locations, indicating that BM4 was widely adaptable and more stable in different environments. SNP analysis revealed that BM4 and BM1 inherited similar proportions of the M genome but are dissimilar to BM2, 3, 5, and 6. Both BM1 and BM4 have specific alleles that differ from the other BM lines, and most of these alleles are concentrated in specific chromosomal regions that are found to associate with favorable QTLs, these SNPs and their surrounding regions may carry the genetic determinants important for the superior performance of the two lines. But BM4 has more genetic diversity than BM1 with more specific alleles and pleiotropic regions, indicating that the genome of BM4 may be more complex than the other sibling lines and has more favorable gene resources. Our results provide valuable information that can be used to select elite parents for wheat and self-pollinating crop breeding.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to characterize the high molecular glutenin subunits (HMW-GS) composition and the presence of 1B/1R translocation in newly developed wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) germplasm, which have one or more traits that are useful in wheat improvement. Sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and acid polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis (A-PAGE) were used to detect HMW-GS composition and the presence of 1B/1R wheat-rye (Secale cereale L.) chromosome translocation in the wheat germplasm. Bread-making quality scores of these lines were determined. A high level of variations in HMW-GS encoded by Glu-1 locus was observed. Sixteen major HMW-GS, with 30 combinations, were detected. The percentage of cultivars with more than two desirable subunits was 38.7%. Thirteen cultivars had bread-making quality scores of 10 in combination with one or two desirable agronomical traits, such as high-yield potential, dwarfing stem, resistance to diseases, and/or tolerance to abiotic stress. Sixty-eight (36.6%) cultivars possessed 1B/1R translocation. The newly developed germplasm with HMW-GS for good quality can be promising resources for improving bread-making quality of wheat.  相似文献

Quantitative trait loci(QTL) for percentage of chalky grain,degree of chalkiness,and endosperm transparency were detected using 3 recombinant inbred line populations derived from crosses between parental lines of commercial three-line hybrids of indica rice.Two of the populations showed great variations on heading date,and the other had a short range of heading date variation.A total of 40 QTLs were detected and fell into 15 regions of 10 chromosomes,of which 5 regions were detected for 1 or more same traits over different populations,2 were detected for different traits in different populations,3 were detected for 2 or all the 3 traits in a single population,and 5 were detected for a single trait in a single population.Most of these QTLs have been reported previously,but a region located on the long arm of chromosome 10 showing significant effects in all the 3 populations has not been reported before.It was shown that a number of gene cloned,including the Wx and Alk for the physiochemical property of rice grain,and GW2,GS3 and GW5 for grain weight and grain size,could have played important roles for the genetic control of grain chalkiness in rice,but there are many more QTLs exerting stable effects for rice chalkiness over different genetic backgrounds.It is worth paying more attentions to these regions which harbor QTL such as the qPCG5.2/qDC5.2/qET5.2 and qPCG10/qDC10/qET10 detected in our study.Our results also showed that the use of segregating populations having high-uniform heading date could greatly increase the efficiency of the identification of QTL responsible for traits that are subjected to great environmental influence.  相似文献

To select highly informative microsatellite markers (SSRs) and establish a useful genetic SSR framework for rice genotyping, 15 rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars including six indica varieties and nine japonica varieties were used to analyze the polymorphism information content (PIC) value of 489 SSR markers. A total of 1 296 alleles were detected by 405 polymorphic markers with an average of 3.2 per locus. The PIC value of each chromosome was ranged from 0.4039 (chromosome 2) to 0.5840 (chromosome 11). Among the two rice subspecies, indica (0.3685-0.4952) gave a higher PIC value than japonica (0.1326-0.3164) and displayed a higher genetic diversity. Genetic diversity of indica was high on chromosome 12 (0.4952) and low on chromosome 8 (0.3685), while that for japonica was high on chromosome 11 (0.3164) and low on chromosome 2 (0.1326). A SSR framework including 141 highly informative markers for genotyping was selected from 199 SSR markers (PIC〉0.50). Ninety-three SSR markers distributed on 12 chromosomes were found to be related to indica-japonica differentiation. Of these 93 pairs of SSR primers, 17 pairs were considered as core primers (all the japonica varieties have the same specific alleles, while the indica varieties have another specific alleles), 48 pairs as the second classic primers (all the japonica or indica varieties have the same specific alleles, while the indica or japanica varieties have two or more other specific alleles ) and 28 pairs as the third classic primers (all the japonica and indica varieties have two or more alleles, but the specific alleles are different between japonica and indica). Thirty-two SSR markers were selected to be highly informative and useful for genetic diversity analysis of japonica varieties. This work provides a lot of useful information of SSR markers for rice breeding programs, especially for genotyping, diversity analysis and genetic mapping.  相似文献

Heavy metals have been found to be endocrine disruptors in invertebrates.Lead is one of the most widespread elements of contamination,but there has been no research about the effects of lead stress on vitellogenin(Vg) gene expression in insects exposed to lead over multiple generations.In this paper,the effects of different concentrations of lead(0,0.3,4.8 and 76.8 mg kg~(–1)) on the expression of Vg in the beet armyworm over five successive generations were studied.The results showed that lead stress had significant effects on Vg expression in a dose-dependent manner.For females at the larval and adult stages,as lead concentration increased,Vg expression was significantly inhibited; for males at these two developmental stages,Vg expression was induced and increased as lead concentration increased.In addition,with the increase over stressed generations,inhibited effects for females and induced effects for males at the larval and adult stages became increasingly more obvious.However,at the pupal stage,Vg expression in the two genders was different from that at the larval and adult stages.The results indicate that lead stress can upregulate Vg expression in males which should be a useful indicator for environmental risk assessment.  相似文献

The objective of this article is to reveal the variations of ramie inbred lines in DNA level and discuss their molecular background to provide a theoretical basis for ramie cross breeding. In the present study, the genetic relationships among 33 inbred line accessions and two wild types that originated from China and Brazil were estimated using sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers. The results showed that 33 out of 81 primer combinations turned out to be polymorphic and 332 polymorphism bands were obtained. On the basis of the appearance of the markers, the genetic relationships were analyzed using unweighted pair-group method of arithmetic average cluster analysis (UPGMA), and the genetic Jaccard similarity coefficients were calculated. The inbred-lines originating from China and Brazil formed a cluster suggesting a possibility that the Brazilian cultivars could have developed from cultivars introduced from China. Within ramie inbred-lines, the groupings also indicated that the greatest genetic relationship among cultivars was correlated to the region of origin of cultivars. The results provided the evidence that SRAP was an efficient approach, suitable for taxonomic analysis of ramie inbred lines, To the authors' knowledge, this is the first application of SRAP marker on the systematics of ramie inbred lines.  相似文献

40in-calf heifers were observed to examine the effect of timbers placing in passage area on their use of cubicle beds.prior to the experiment preliminary observation was taken on these 40 heifers and they were divided into two even groups(cubicle user(or control)group versus cubicle refusal (or experimental)group by whether they properly used the cubicle beds or not.The timbers were placed in passage and feeding areas for the cubicle refusal group to force the animls to lie in the cubicle beds.The results of this experiment showed that feeding behaviour was unaffceted by the presence of the timbers.but lying acitvity was about8% higher for the experimental group,which led to a mean of almost 2 hours longer lyin time over 24h.After the timbers were removed,there was a significant decline in lying by the experimental group[.The diurnal pattern of lying behaviour in cubicles indicated that the major effect on lying activity exerted by the presence of the timbers was seen during midnight to 10:00am.Also during this times,the experimental group in the presence of the timbers tended to show more lying in cubicles than control group.At the end of the experiment,95% of the heifers were found to be correctly using the cubicle beds.and on the negative side three hiefers developed a slight injury on their legs or hocks caused by the timber.  相似文献

Fusarium wilt (FW) is one of the most common cotton diseases in the world. Identification of QTLs conferring resistance to FW is key for the incorporation of resistance genes into elite cultivars. Two intraspecific (cross between Gossypium hirsuturn L.) and one interspecific (cross between Gossypium hirsutum L. and Gossypium bardence L.) F2 populations were constructed by using a highly resistant cultivar and crossing it to a susceptible cultivar with 154, 79, and 148 offsprings, respectively. Simple sequence repeats (SSR) were used to screen genomic regions closely linked to FW resistance. The results showed that five QTLs associated with FW resistance were detected in two intraspecific populations using a composite interval mapping method under four different conditions. Four of these loci located on Chr. 2/Chr. 17 neighboring markers JESPR304 or CIR305 which explained 13.1 to 45.9% of the phenotypic effect. Furthermore, JESPR304 and CIR305 were previously testified and found to be tightly linked. It is possible that these four QTLs detected under different conditions were the same resistance QTL/gene. We consider that there is the possibility of a major FW resistant gene in intraspecific populations. In the interspecific mapping populations two QTLs were detected on Chr. 9 and Chr. 12/26 which explained great phenotypic variance of 49.4 and 45.7%. As the location of QTLs for FW resistance among the intraspecific and the interspecfic populations were totally different, it is suggested that there may be different resistance mechanisms between G. bardence L. and G. hursutum L. Thus, the present research provides an opportunity to understand the genetic control of resistance to FW in Gossypium hirsutum and Gossypium bardence and to conduct MAS in breeding programs to develop FW resistant cultivars.  相似文献

[Objective] The aim was to explore the relationship between the classification and regional distribution of balsam pear.[Method] In the research,30 varieties of balsam pear were analyzed by ISSR marker.[Result] The research showed that 172 bands were amplified by 18 primers,in which,132 bands were polymorphism and the polymorphic proportion was 76.7%.All of the samples can be divided into four categories by UPGMA analysis.[Conclusion] The results indicated that the classification of balsam pear is similar as varieties' regional distribution,which will be useful for genetic relationships analysis and parents selection in hybridization breeding.  相似文献

S-a, S-b and S-c are three loci for F1 pollen sterility in cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.). Taichung 65 (T65) is all Sj/Sj at these three loci, while its F1 pollen sterile near-isogenic lines, TISL2 (S-b), TISL4 (S-a) and TISL5 (S-c) is Sj/Sj according to their respective sterility locus. Using SSR molecular marker to detect the segregation of the allele Si and Sj in pollen calli population induced from different hybrid F1, which have different pollen sterility locus, showed that the segregation of allele Si and Sj was distorted. The distorted direction of pollen calli population in vitro was not the same as F2 population in vivo. The quantities of pollen callus carrying Sj were much more than that of carrying Siat S-a and S-c locus, the ratio of Si and Sj were 1:4.81 and 1:1.96 respectively. But the opposite tendency was observed at S-b locus, the ratio of Si and Sj being 1:0.35. At the same time, all these results were undisturbed by either culture medium or culture period.  相似文献

Using Hela cell cultures as positive control and primary canine kidney cell (CKC) or feline kidney cell (FKC) cultures purified in vitro on passage 3 as negative control, the tumorigenicity of Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells was tested in >273 nude mice, and colony formation in soft agarose and haemagglutination under different concentration of plant lectins of these cells were carried out at the same time. Subsequently, very low tumorigenicity strains of MDCK line were successfully selected; these were evaluated for the production of canine or feline combination viral vaccines, free of infectious agents, and of known cytogenetic and tumorigenic. It is thus evident that MDCK cell of M, JB, JC, WB or H strain can be approved as substrate for the preparation of attenuated viral vaccines, but MDCK cell of YA, YB and KA strains can not be approved as substrate for the preparation of attenuated viral vaccines. The heritable character of these cell sub-lines is comparatively stable, and shows little significant difference between passages.  相似文献

Many nitrophenols tend to persist in the environment and they may become public health hazards. Among nitrophenols, p-nitrophenol (PNP) is a priority pollutant that has been widely used as pesticide. PNP is a toxic compound that enters the environment during manufacturing and processing of a variety of industrial products. This situation generalized its presence in multiple natural ecosystems: rivers, wastewaters, subterranean waters, soil treated by pesticides and urban atmosphere. This study aims to test the ability of wastewater microflora to degrade high concentration of PNP (500 rag/L) aerobically. An identification of the dominant microorganisms involved in the biodegradation is also carried. The cultures are performed using a minimum medium, where PNP is the sole source of carbon, energy and nitrogen. The kinetic of biodegradation is followed for more than 30 days of incubation at 30 ~C on a shaker (150 tours/min). The obtained results show that more than 90% of PNP initial concentration is decomposed at the end of incubation. The isolation of microorganisms degrading PNP gave two bacterial colonies with different macroscopic aspects. Sequence analysis of 16S ribosomal DNA indicated that the PNP degrading isolates were closely related to members of the species: Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus.  相似文献

The genus Adelphocoris(Hemiptera: Miridae) is a group of key insect pests in cotton fields in China that includes three dominant species: A. suturalis(Jakovlev), A. lineolatus(Goeze) and A. fasciaticollis(Reuter). Previous field surveys have found that adults of these Adelphocoris species usually move onto specific host plants when the plants enter the flowering stage. To determine the potential trade-offs for this host-plant preference behavior, the performance of these three Adelphocoris spp. on flowering and non-flowering cotton and alfalfa were compared in the laboratory. The results showed that Adelphocoris spp. had significantly higher nymphal developmental and survival rates, along with increased adult longevity and fecundity on flowering cotton and alfalfa than on non-flowering plants of either species. In addition, compared with cotton plants, alfalfa generally promoted better performance of these three Adelphocoris species, especially for A. lineolatus. Simple correlation analysis indicated that female adult longevity was positively correlated to male adult longevity and female fecundity, and female fecundity was positively correlated to nymphal development and survival rates. This study demonstrated a positive correlation between adult preference and offspring/adult performance for all three Adelphocoris species, with no evidence of any trade-offs for this preference for flowering host plants. These findings support the hypothesis that hemimetabolous insects such as mirid bugs have positive adult preference-adult/nymphal performance relationships, which is likely due to the similar feeding habits and nutritional requirements of adults and nymphs.  相似文献
