The insecticide-nematicide carbofuran was incorporated in alginate-based granules to obtain controlled-release (CR) properties. The basic formulation [sodium alginate (1.61%)-carbofuran (0. 59%)-water] was modified by addition of sorbents. The effect on carbofuran release rate, caused by the incorporation of natural and acid-treated bentonite (0.5 and 1.0 M H(2)SO(4)) in alginate formulation, was studied by immersion of the granules in water under shaking. The time taken for 50% of the active ingredient to be released into water, t(50), was longer for those formulations containing natural bentonite (6.1 h) or acid-treated bentonite (9.0 and 11.7 h for 0.5 and 1.0 M H(2)SO(4) treatments, respectively) than for the preparation without bentonite (4.7 h). It appears from the results that the release of carbofuran from the various formulations is controlled by a diffusion mechanism according to the n values obtained, which were close to 0.5 in all cases. The mobility of carbofuran from alginate-based CR formulations was investigated by using soil columns packed with a clay soil (53% clay and 0.08% organic matter). Two alginate-based CR formulations containing natural bentonite or acid-treated bentonite (0.5 M H(2)SO(4)) were compared to technical grade carbofuran. The use of alginate-based CR formulations resulted in a reduction of the leached amount of carbofuran compared with the total amount of pesticide leached using the technical product (50 and 75% for CR granules containing natural and acid-treated bentonite, respectively). Alginate-bentonite CR formulations might be efficient systems for reducing carbofuran leaching in clay soils, which would reduce the risk of groundwater pollution.  相似文献

Use of activated bentonites in controlled-release formulations of atrazine   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The herbicide atrazine (6-chloro-N2-ethyl-N4-isopropyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine) was incorporated in alginate-based granules to obtain controlled-release (CR) properties. The basic formulation [sodium alginate (1.40%)-atrazine (0.60%)-water] was modified by the addition of sorbents. The effect on atrazine release rate caused by the incorporation of acid-treated bentonite (0.5 and 2.5 M H2SO4) in alginate formulation was studied by immersion of the granules in water under static conditions. The water uptake, sorption capacity of the sorbent, permeability, and time taken for 50% of the active ingredient to be released into water, t50, were calculated for the comparison of the preparations. t50 values were longer for those formulations containing acid-treated bentonite (36.78 and 29.01 days for 0.5 and 2.5 M H2SO4 treatments, respectively) than for the preparation without bentonite (9.69 days). On the basis of a parameter of an empirical equation used to fit the herbicide release data, it appears that the release of atrazine from the various formulations into water is controlled by diffusion mechanism. The sorption capacity of the sorbents and the permeability of the formulations (ranging from 4.99 to 20.83 mg day(-1) mm(-1)) were the most important factors affecting herbicide release.  相似文献

Different alginate-based systems of isoproturon, imidacloprid, and cyromazine have been investigated in order to obtain controlled release (CR) properties. The basic formulation [sodium alginate (1.50%), pesticide (0.30%), and water] was modified using different amounts of bentonite and activated carbon. The higher values of encapsulation efficiency corresponded to those formulations prepared with higher percentages of activated carbon, showing higher encapsulation efficiency values for isoproturon and imidacloprid than for cyromazine, which has a higher water solubility. The kinetic experiments of imidacloprid/isoproturon release in water have shown us that the release rate is higher in imidacloprid systems than in those prepared with isoproturon. Moreover, it can be deduced that the use of bentonite and/or activated carbon sorbents reduces the release rate of the isoproturon and imidacloprid in comparison with the technical product and with alginate formulation without modifying agents. The highest decrease in release rate corresponds to the formulations prepared with the highest percentage of activated carbon. The water uptake, permeability, and time taken for 50% of the active ingredient to be released into water, T50, were calculated to compare the formulations. On the basis of a parameter of an empirical equation used to fit the pesticide release data, the release of isoproturon and imidacloprid from the various formulations into water is controlled by a diffusion mechanism. The sorption capacity of the sorbents and the permeability of the formulations were the most important factors modulating pesticide release. Finally, a linear correlation of the T50 values and the content of activated carbon in formulations were obtained.  相似文献

The herbicide diuron was incorporated in alginate-based granules to obtain controlled release (CR) properties. The standard formulation (alginate-herbicide-water) was modified by the addition of different sorbents. The effect on diuron release rate caused by incorporation of natural and acid-treated bentonites in alginate formulation was studied by immersion of the granules in water under static conditions. The release of diuron was diffusion-controlled. The time taken for 50% release of active ingredient to be released into water, T(50), was calculated for the comparison of formulations. The addition of bentonite to the alginate-based formulation produced the higher T(50) values, indicating slower release of the diuron. The mobility of technical and formulated diuron was compared by using soil columns. The use of alginate-based CR formulations containing bentonite produced a less vertical distribution of the active ingredient as compared to the technical product and commercial formulation. Sorption capacities of the various soil constituents for diuron were also determined using batch experiments.  相似文献

Controlled release (CR) formulations of the insecti-nematicide carbofuran have been prepared using commercially available rosin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose and sodium carboxymethylcellulose with clay (bentonite, kaolinite, and Fuller's earth). The kinetics of carbofuran release in soil from the different formulations were studied in comparison with that of the commercially available granules (3G). Release from the commercial formulation was faster than with the new CR formulations. Addition of clay in the biodegradable polymer matrix reduced the rate of release. The diffusion exponent (n value) of carbofuran in soil ranged from 0.462 to 0.740 in the tested formulations. The half-release (t1/2) values ranged between 4.79 and 25.11 days, and the period of optimum availability (POA) of carbofuran ranged from 15.10 to 43.97 days. The mean EC50 of the commercial formulation against Meloidogyne incognita was quite high as compared to those of CR formulations. The effective duration (te) of carbofuran from the CR and commercial formulations was predicted by fitting the mean EC50 values of test formulations in the model (M(infinity) - Me)/M(infinity) = Kdte. It was 0.7 day in commercial 3G in comparison with 17.8 days for CMC-bentonite. The bioassay studies revealed that with the rosin-yellow polymer, the dose of carbofuran could be reduced to half of its recommended dose for nematode control. Overall, a comparison of CR formulations with the commercial one showed an earlier degradation of carbofuran in the latter and relatively prolonged activity in the former.  相似文献

An organosolv lignin and several of its fractions were used to prepare controlled release matrix granules with fluometuron using a melt process. Release profiles of fluometuron from these granules and a commercial granular formulation were studied in vitro. The release rates of fluometuron were considerably reduced from all lignin-based granules as compared to the commercial formulation. The release rates markedly varied with the lignin fraction used in the fluometuron-lignin matrix systems with the corresponding times for 50% release (T(50)) values ranging from 2.37 to 11.2 days. The variation in release rate of fluometuron was related to the high proportion of low molecular weight lignin and its associated water soluble lignin in the lignin-based granules, in terms of the hydrophobicity of matrix, the content, and release rate of soluble lignin. The release kinetics were fitted to the generalized model for up to 60% release of fluometuron; the kinetics of fluometuron were of the anomalous type for all matrixes in which release rates increased following a delay.  相似文献

Controlled-release formulations of the herbicide acetochlor were prepared by using carboxylmethylcellulose (CMC) gel and different types of clay, which were obtained by acid activation, pillared with metal hydroxides, or saturated with organic cations. The effect of formulation parameters (amount and type of clay used, cross-linking time, and drying of the hydrogel formulations) on the acetochlor release rate from different formulations was evaluated by water-release studies. The time taken for 50% of acetochlor to be released, t 50, showed a wide variation (151-522 h) for dried gel formulations, the largest value corresponding to the formulation incorporating aluminum hydroxide pillared clay into CMC gels. The release rate of acetochlor from clay/CMC hydrogel formulations decreased with the increase of the hydrogels' cross-linking time (t50 values ranged from 2.18 to 14.0 h for cross-linking times ranging from 2.0 to 120 min). The performance of inorganic clays in dried gel formulations on slowing the release of acetochlor is related to their sorption capacities, but the addition of organic clay did not lead to the slowest release despite its highest sorption capacity. According to the parameters of an empirical equation used to fit herbicide-release data, the release of acetochlor from clay/CMC gel formulations is controlled by diffusion mechanism.  相似文献

Imidacloprid, a systemic insecticide that has a water solubility of 610 mg L(-1), has been formulated in lignin-polyethylene glycol matrices by a melting process. This formulation was coated in a Wurster type fluidized-bed equipment using ethylcellulose and dibutyl sebacate. Imidacloprid has been entrapped, with an entrapment efficiency higher than 87% in all cases. Thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy studies indicate the stability and compatibility of polymers and imidacloprid. Scanning electron microscopy images show a homogeneous film of ethylcellulose in coated formulations. From T(50) values (the time taken for 50% of the active ingredient to be released into water), the release rate of imidacloprid is controlled by changing the thickness of the coating film and modifying its surface properties by adding a plasticizer. T(50) values, ranging from 3.02 to 168.6 h, allow supplying the appropriate amount of imidacloprid in each specific agronomic practice to increase the efficiency of this bioactive material and minimize the risk of environmental pollution.  相似文献

Curcumin-loaded alginate beads, which contain different food emulsifiers, have been prepared using CaCl? as the cross-linking agent. The controlled release of the curcumin from the beads was investigated at room temperature. For calcium alginate/Span-80/Tween-80 (A/S/T) formulations, almost all of the curcumin loaded in the beads was released into the medium within about 20 h, and the release rates could be regulated by changing the concentration of both Tween-80 and Span-80. However, for the systems of calcium alginate/Q-12A/F-18A (A/Q/F), about 60% of the curcumin loaded in the beads was released at the end of experiments. The studies of scanning electron microscopy indicated that the microstructure of the walls of beads could significantly vary with the concentration or type of emulsifiers. The Fourier transform infrared spectral measurements confirmed that the interactions between calcium alginate and polyglycerol fatty acid esters were stronger than that between calcium alginate and Tween-80/Span-80. The results of swelling studies demonstrated that the initial rates of water uptake for A/Q/F beads were higher than that for A/S/T beads. Moreover, the data of release rates were fitted by an empirical equation, which showed that the release mechanism of curcumin from the alginate gels varied with the composition of emulsifiers for the A/S/T systems. This work provides an important insight into the effect of food emulsifiers on the release rates of the curcumin from calcium alginate beads and will be helpful for the application of the systems in controlled release of other hydrophobic drug.  相似文献

A magnetic glycine-grafted chitosan sorbent (Gly) was functionalized to produce a hydrazide derivative (HGly). The two sorbents were tested in batch mode for the sorption of a series of 10 metal ions present in the groundwater collected in three wells in the Wadi (valley) Nasib mining area (SW Sinai, Egypt). HGly is much more efficient for metal recovery than Gly. Under selected experimental conditions (sorbent dosage 1.5 g L?1), the sorption efficiency is not sufficient for achieving the standard levels for drinking water: the most problematic metal ions in terms of drinkability remain aluminum (too high metal concentration in the groundwater), cadmium, and chromium for the three wells (and nickel in the case of only one well). Increasing the sorbent dosage improves the treatment efficiency. The sorbent (HGly) was tested in fixed-bed columns. The breakthrough curves were compared for the different metals for the groundwater collected in the most contaminated of the three wells. The levels of metal concentration in the treated groundwater are too high for direct use in irrigation. However, they are consistent with the standards for livestock drinking water (based on FAO recommendations, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). The metals can be readily desorbed using 0.5 M HCl solutions with a relatively high concentrating effect (i.e., 50 times). The re-use of the sorbent for three successive cycles of sorption/desorption cycles shows a progressive but weak decrease in sorption and desorption performances.  相似文献

The mineral surface of Wyoming bentonite was modified by replacing inorganic ions with four quaternary ammonium cations in an amount equal to 40 percent of the cation-exchange capacity of the bentonite. The four quaternary ammonium cations used were tetramethylammonium (TMA), tetraethylammonium (TEA), benzyltrimethylammonium (BTMA), and benzyltriethylammonium (BTEA). Sorption of benzene, tetrachloromethane, trichloroethene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, and naphthalene to the modified sorbents from water at 20 °C was investigated. All five solutes were sorbed strongly by TEA-, BTMA-, and BTEA-bentonite, but only benzene and tetrachloromethane were strongly sorbed by TMA-bentonite. The sorption isotherms are distinctly nonlinear and the magnitude of sorption is not correlated with the solute's aqueous solubility. In contrast, sorption of trichloroethene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, and naphthalene to TMA-bentonite was negligible relative to benzene and tetrachloromethane sorption. The apparent absence of solute selectivity by TEA-, BTMA-, and BTEA-bentonite, along with their large sorption capacities, indicates that these sorbents can potentially be useful as components of landfill liners or slurry walls to decrease the mobility of a variety of nonionic organic contaminants.  相似文献

Oil spills impose serious damage to the environment. A spilled crude oil or its products affect aquatic flora and fauna and influence the atmosphere as well. Such pollutants are especially dangerous for the water ecosystems, where biological self-purification processes are slower (for example the Baltic Sea), than in warmer regions. In this paper, we evaluate a sorption capacity of ecologically friendly natural sorbents, when the crude oil and diesel are spilled on the surface of water. The experiments are carried out in the laboratory, and the water from the Lithuanian Baltic Sea coastline and Curonian Lagoon is used. Moss, straw, wool, sawdust, and peat are the natural sorbents evaluated during the experiments. Chromatographic analysis of crude oil and diesel during the process of sorption was conducted as well. An experiment with some synthetic sorbents was carried out to compare the results with natural ones. The experiments showed that the most suitable material for crude oil or diesel fuel spilled on the water surface is peat. As well, Lagergren’s model was adopted to the case of the sorption processes we have investigated. It can be exploited as a decision support tool while deciding the required time interval to achieve maximum sorption capacity of the sorbent in use.  相似文献

About the sorption of dissolved organic matter to forest soils This investigation characterizes the major forest soils of the temperate climatic zones (leptosols, vertisols, cambisols, luvisols, podzols, stagnosols, gleysols) as sorbents for dissolved organic matter (DOM). Sorption isotherms were obtained for 135 soil horizons from 36 profiles. When solutions containing no DOC were added, the release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was highest for horizons rich in organic C (A and Bh horizons). In subsoil horizons DOC release was much lower. Most of the investigated top soils (A and E horizons) and Bh, Bg, and C horizons showed a weak DOC sorption. This was caused by low contents of sorbents (clay and sesquioxides) and/or high contents of organic C. Organic C seems to reduce the DOC sorption by occupying binding sites. Subsoils rich in clay and sesquioxides like Bs, Bt, and Bw horizons showed a strong retention of DOC. Under the aerobic conditions of the experiments, some of the subsoils of stagnosols and gleysols also showed a strong sorption of DOC. However, in sorption experiments conducted after an anaerobic incubation, the DOC sorption decreased significantly.  相似文献

The sorption of copper and cadmium ions using activated carbon, kaolin, bentonite, diatomite and waste materials such as compost, cellulose pulp waste and anaerobic sludge as sorbents is reported. Equilibrium isotherms were obtained for the adsorption of these metals in single and binary solutions. Bentonite presented the highest adsorption capacities for both copper and cadmium. A competitive uptake was observed when both metals are present; copper being preferentially adsorbed by all materials with theexception of anaerobic sludge. Equilibrium data were fitted toLangmuir and Freundlich models, with satisfactory results for most of the adsorbent-metal systems studied.Of all the adsorbents studied, bentonite and compost presentedthe highest removal efficiencies, reaching 99% for copper whencadmium is also present, for initial solution concentrations ofup to 100 mg L-1. Anaerobic sludge has a greater preferencefor cadmium, even in the presence of copper, with removal efficiencies of 98% for similar concentrations to those mentioned above.  相似文献

This study aimed at evaluating and comparing the removal of arsenic from solutions by a low-cost waste-based sorbent, produced by pyrolysing sewage sludge under appropriate conditions, and by a commercially activated carbon. Batch sorption experiments were performed under isothermal conditions (20°C), in order to evaluate the effect of pH on the arsenic sorption kinetics and on the equilibrium sorption capacity of the materials under study. Kinetic data revealed that the arsenic sorption was faster onto the activated carbon than onto the pyrolysed sludge. The sorption process was well described by both the pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order kinetics equations for both materials. Changes in the initial solution pH have distinct effects on the removal of arsenic onto pyrolysed sludge and activated carbon. While for pyrolysed sludge, pH affects essentially the equilibrium time, for activated carbon it affects the sorption capacity. Equilibrium results were well described by both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models, although fittings corresponding to the Langmuir isotherm were slightly better. The Langmuir maximum sorption capacity determined for the pyrolysed sludge was 71???g?g?1, while for activated carbon was 229???g?g?1. Despite the relative lower capacity of the pyrolysed sludge, the considerable lower cost and the valorisation of the sludge may justify further research on its use for water decontamination.  相似文献

The sorption of hydrophobic organic compounds by natural organic matter is mainly regulated by its aromatic and aliphatic fractions, but it is not clear which fraction is more dominant. In this study, six types of Chinese tea leaves (three varieties of tender and three corresponding mature leaves) and their respective brewed ones were analyzed by elemental analysis, 13C NMR, and Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflectance. Their sorption of phenanthrene was examined using a batch equilibration technique. The aromatic carbon content of tea leaves reduced while the aliphatic carbon content increased with increasing maturity and brewing. Sorption isotherms by all of the 12 tea sorbents were practically linear, showing a partition type sorption. The phenanthrene KOC (organic carbon-normalized sorption capacity) of the 12 sorbents ranged from 6960 to 32,900 mL/g, which increased with increasing aliphatic carbons and decreasing aromatic carbons in the tea leaves. The dissolved organic matter was released into solution from the sorbents during the sorption process, which could bind phenanthrene in the solution, and thereafter leading to underestimation of sorption capacity of the sorbents, but this did not change the correlation trends between KOC and functional carbon group content. Aliphatic fractions rather than aromatic moieties regulated the phenanthrene sorption of the tea leaf powders used in this study.  相似文献

The chemisorption mechanisms of phosphate anions by iron (aluminum) containing sorbents in a soil under high phosphate loads were studied. The role of the metal-phosphate anions in the destruction of the sorbents was discussed. It was shown that the chemisorption of phosphate anions and the destruction of phosphated organomineral sorbents are interrelated processes. A significant part of the chemisorbed phosphates in association with sorbent metals and carbon passes into the liquid phase of soil systems.  相似文献

Surfactants have been used for environmental remediation to remove hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) in water and soil. However, there are limited studies on the use of surfactants in confined micelle arrays to remove pesticides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from water. We studied the recovery of HOCs using two confined surfactants: nonionic Triton X-100 and cationic 3-(trimethoxysily)propyl-octadecyldimethyl-ammonium chloride (TPODAC). The micelle arrays were confined on a mesoporous silica matrix deposited onto a magnetic iron core. These magnetic, dispersible sorbents can be used to recover HOCs, minimizing the application of surfactants when compared to soil-washing techniques. The TPODAC-based sorbent had better average recovery of the HOCs studied compared to the Triton-X sorbent, and was, in general, comparable to activated carbon. It performed well with the chlorinated pesticides, in part due to additional interactions between the cationic sites and the polar compounds.  相似文献

Methylobacterium oryzae CBMB20, a promising plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) and a biocontrol agent, was immobilized in different formulations such as wet chitosan, dry chitosan, wet alginate and dry alginate and were tested for tomato plant growth promotion. Chitosan solution (1.5%) with pH 5.5–6.0 and 90 min contact time was found optimal for immobilization. The chitosan formulations showed better entrapment efficiency and good degradability resistance apart from slow release of cells under prolonged incubation. Survivability of bacteria (80%) was observed in wet chitosan formulation even after 90 days of storage at 4°C. The spermosphere survival of bacteria was high in both dry and wet chitosan formulations applied soils even after 21 days under greenhouse conditions. While the alginate formulation degraded fully, partial degradation of chitosan formulation was observed even after 30 days, indicating its ability to support the survival of M. oryzae CBMB20 in soil. Plants inoculated with wet chitosan formulation registered 1.3 fold increase in the shoot and root length and dry weight compared to other treatments. Hence, chitosan formulation supporting better plant growth compared to alginate will be a better carrier for taking bacteria to the plant rhizosphere and thereby promote plant growth.  相似文献

The dynamic method was proposed for studying the kinetics of 137Cs selective sorption by the measurement of the 137Cs activity directly in the sorbent solid phase. A thin layer of the sorbent in a disposable syringe membrane filter (MF) was eluted with a 137Cs solution containing K+ and Ca2+ ions with a gradual decrease in the solution flow rate from 6 to 0.2 cm3/min. The activity of the sorbed 137Cs was determined periodically by placing the same MF in the detector well of a Wizard 1480 gamma counter. It was shown that the masses of the sorbent and water in the MF had no effect on the efficiency of the 137Cs measurement. A linear relationship between the RIP(K) value and the square root of the time for the period between 4 and 30 days was revealed using this method. The relative increase in the RIP(K) with time changed by 6 times (from 0.034 to 0.208 days−0.5) for the soils and by 20 times (from 0.008 to 0.153 days−0.5) for the mineral sorbents. The RIP(K) values measured for the interaction of soddy-podzolic soils with 137Cs during 24 hours using the standard limited volume method were lower than the values determined by the proposed dynamic method for the interaction period of 30 days by 50–100%.  相似文献
