Consumption of plants of the species Brassica oleracea is related to a decreased incidence of certain cancer forms in humans, and this has been linked to the presence of glucosinolates in those vegetables. After ripe seeds, sprouts of some brassicaceous plants contain the highest concentration of these compounds and are therefore a good source of glucosinolates for chemoprotection. In the present experiments, the content and distribution of glucosinolates was determined in ripe seeds and sprouts (seedlings) of five varieties of B. oleracea (white cabbage, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower) by high performance liquid chromatography. The type and concentration of individual glucosinolates varied according to variety of B. oleracea, plant parts in which they occurred and the sprouting period of the seed. Concentration of alkyl glucosinolates decreased whereas that of indol-3-ylmethylglucosinolates increased throughout the sprouting period. Roots had the highest glucosinolate concentration in four and seven day old sprouts whereas at both sprouting times, cotyledons had the highest concentration of alkylthio- and alkylsulphinylglucosinolates.  相似文献

The contents of ascorbic acid, glucosinolates, sulforaphane, anthocyanins, total phenolics, the activity of myrosinase and phenylalanine ammonialyase (PAL) and the antioxidant activity of broccoli sprouts grown under 88 mM and 176 mM of sucrose and mannitol were investigated. The results showed that the contents of sulforaphane, ascorbic acid and anthocyanins in broccoli sprouts were significantly increased after treatment with 88 mM of sucrose compared with the control. The contents of glucosinolates and total phenolics, the activity of PAL and the antioxidant activity in broccoli sprouts treated with 176 mM sucrose were also significantly increased, whereas the activity of myrosinase was significantly reduced. On the other hand, the contents of glucosinolate, sulforaphane and total phenolics in broccoli sprouts were also significantly increased after treatment with 176 mM of mannitol, although the contents of sulforaphane were markedly reduced compared to those treated with 176 mM of sucrose. Sucrose might induce the production of health-promoting compounds through its role of signaling, generating osmotic pressure or serving as a substrate. These results indicate that sucrose treatment could improve the nutritional value of broccoli, and the sprouts growing under adequate concentration of sucrose could benefit our diet by producing more health-promoting compounds.  相似文献

Perilla plants with red coloured leaves grown in red-enriched light treatments (i.e., red lamps alone (R), a mixture of blue and red lamps (BR), and a mixture of green and red lamps (GR)) had greater dry weight, bigger leaves, and more leaves than those grown in other treatments (i.e., blue lamps alone (B), a mixture of blue and green lamps (BG), and green lamps alone (G)). Although the concentrations of perillaldehyde and limonene in leaf tissues (mg g−1 leaf DW) were 1.6–1.9 and 1.5–1.9 times higher, respectively, in the G treatment than in red-enriched light treatments, the contents of perillaldehyde and limonene per plant (mg/plant) were 1.8 times higher in the BR treatment than those in the G treatment. The content of anthocyanin per plant was also 4.3 times higher in the BR treatment than that in the G treatment. Therefore, within the six different combinations of fluorescent lamps used in the present study, the BR treatment was a suitable light quality for producing plants with high contents of perillaldehyde, limonene, and anthocyanin under controlled environments.  相似文献

Summary

Broccoli sprouts have been recognised as a rich source of glucosinolates, particularly 4-methylsulphinylbutyl glucosinolate, the precursor of the potent anti-cancer compound, sulphoraphane. Previous results have shown that temperature can significantly affect the levels of glucosinolates. In this study, we showed how sprout age and storage temperature affected glucosinolate levels in broccoli sprouts grown under different temperature regimes. Experiments were conducted in growth cabinets with day/night temperature regimes of 30°/15°C, 22°/15°C and 18°/12°C. At 9, 10 and 11 d after sowing in the first temperature regime, 10, 11 and 12 d in the second, and 12, 13 and 14 in the third, sprouts were submitted to 4°C or 20°C to simulate refrigerated and room temperature storage. Sampling was done after 1 d or 2 d of exposure to these conditions. The results showed that total glucosinolate levels and the potential health effects of broccoli sprouts depended on the growth temperature regime (P < 0.05), the age of the sprouts (P < 0.001), and the storage conditions (P < 0.01). The highest total glucosinolate levels (65.7 µmoles g–1 dry weight) were obtained under the 30º/15°C temperature regime for the youngest sprouts (harvested 9 d after emergence), after being submitted to a storage temperature of 4°C for 24 h. However, these levels were much lower than in 3-d-old sprouts. Consuming old sprouts provides less health-protective effects due to reduced levels of glucosinolates.  相似文献

The amplification efficiency and identification diversity with gene-specific primers derived from S locus glycoprotein gene (SLG) and S locus receptor kinase gene (SRK) were compared, and the geographical distribution for S haplotypes was investigated by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) in 72 genotypes of 5 Brassica vegetables from China. The amplification efficiency and identification diversity with class I SRK primers were generally higher than that with class I SLG in most crops tested. Class I alleles were found in total 66 genotypes and they were classified into 16, 10, 7 and 10 groups for Chinese cabbage, purple flowering stalk, cauliflower and cabbage respectively. The number of amplification accessions and identification diversity using the primers of class II SLG and SRK were quite similar. Class II alleles were detected in 55 genotypes and further grouped into one type in mustard and three in other crops. The nucleotide sequences showed high similarity between identical S haplotypes determined by reciprocal pollination and PCR-RFLP tests. It demonstrated that the PCR-RFLP analysis was feasible for identification of S alleles, and SRK should be considered as a better marker for the identification of S haplotypes than SLG. The types of S haplotypes are highly diverse in Brassica vegetables from China. Nevertheless, they were geographically limited in some Brassica vegetables, so the exchange of germplasm resources should be enhanced for breeding.  相似文献

The correlation between the anthocyanin concentrations of seven Acer palmatum Thunb. cultivars and the chromaticity values a*, b*, a*/b* ratio, h° and L* was investigated. According to the position of leaves on the branch terminal, middle and base sample leaves were analyzed and the positional effect on the level of the major anthocyanin was estimated. Leaf color was measured with a portable colorimeter and individual anthocyanins were detected with the use of HPLC–MS. Cyanidin-3-glucoside was present in all senescing leaves of Acer cultivars and its content decreased from terminal to base position. Cyanidin-3-rutinoside was identified in lower concentrations in the leaves of all cultivars. Multiple variable analysis was calculated for each of the tristimulus values and two major anthocyanins (cyanidin-3-glucoside, cyanidin-3-rutinoside) in senescing leaves of ornamental Acer cultivars. Correlations were detected between the major anthocyanin (cyanidin-3-glucoside) in analyzed Acer cultivars and all chromaticity parameters. The highest correlation coefficient (0.94) was observed between cyanidin-3-glucoside and a*/b* ratio in cultivar ‘Bloodgood’ and lowest (0.54) between cyanidin-3-glucoside and a* in Acer palmatum Thunb. The correlation between cyanidin-3-rutinoside and chromaticity parameters was not detected in all Acer cultivars, additionally correlation coefficients and statistical significance were much lower. The expression of red color in both senescing leaves and in all-year-red cultivars can be tightly linked with the content level of cyanidin-3-glucoside; the second major anthocyanin does not contribute much to the red leaf color.  相似文献

Fig has been a typical fruit component of the health-promoting Mediterranean diet for a very long time. Phytochemical characters and antioxidant capacity of green-, yellow-, brown-, purple-, and black-fruited fig (Ficus carica L.) accessions were investigated. In this study, total phenolics (TP), total anthocyanins (TA), fructose (FRUC), glucose (GLUC), sucrose (SUC), and variables (such as L*, a*, C*, and hue°) describing fruit skin colors were examined. Also, the antioxidant capacity (TAC) of fig fruits was determined by the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. Antioxidant capacity was significantly correlated with the polyphenol and anthocyanin (r = 0.74 and 0.63, respectively) contents of fruits. Black fig accessions had the highest TAC (range of 7.9–16.1, mean 12.4 Fe2+ mmol/kg FW), TA (range of 32.3–356.0, mean 128.4 μg cy-3-rutinoside/g FW), and TP content (range of 69.1–220.0, mean 118.9 mg GAE/100 g FW). These black-fruited accessions had 2-fold greater TAC, 15-fold greater TA, and 2.5-fold greater TP than green and yellow fig accessions. However, the FRUC, GLUC, and SUC content of brown and purple fig accessions were higher than those of other color groups. The predominant sugars present were fructose (∼56%) and glucose (∼43%), as determined by HPLC.  相似文献

Red Chinese sand pears (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) are particular to China. In order to determine the effects of fruit bagging treatments (including bag types, bag removal patterns and dates) on fruit qualities and to understand the mechanism of coloring of red Chinese sand pears, two experiments were carried out. In the first experiment, fruit of ‘Meirensu’ were firstly covered by light-impermeable paper bags with different levels of light permeable liners during their early development stage, then, the whole bag were/not removed or only the outer layer of bags were removed 3, 2 or 1 weeks before harvest. Thus, the fruit were/not totally re-exposed or were under different levels of sunlight transmission (80.31% or 34.71%). Non-bagged fruit were used as the control. Bagging treatments significantly affected the concentration of anthocyanin and the visual qualities of pear fruit. Compared to control, fruit re-exposed totally for 2 or 3 weeks accumulated the largest amount of anthocyanin and fruit receiving 80.31% and 34.71% of sunlight for 1–3 weeks could synthesize a little anthocyanin, indicating that high light intensity is imperative for coloring in red Chinese sand pears. Bagging treatments did not affect contents of total soluble sugars, but decreased organic acids contents in fruit. In the second experiment, fruit of ‘Meirensu’ and ‘Yunhongli No. 1’ were covered with only one type of light-impermeable bag during the early development stage and totally re-exposed after the bag removal 15 days before harvest. Fruit were then collected at different intervals to trace the time-course of coloring, and related physiology and inner qualities. With increasing time after the bag removal, the concentration of chlorophyll, carotenoid, flavonoid and total phenols changed little, but the concentration of anthocyanin accumulated extremely fast within 10 days after the bag removal in both cultivars and thereafter kept constant. ‘Yunhongli No. 1’ had higher anthocyanin contents and lower hue angle than ‘Meirensu’, indicating a higher potential of anthocyanin synthesis. After the bag removal, the sucrose contents and PAL activities increased gradually and correlation analysis revealed that they were highly correlated with anthocyanin accumulation in two cultivars. This study suggests that anthocyanin biosynthesis in red Chinese sand pears is a highly light dependent process and modified by genotypes. Based on the current results, in order to obtain red Chinese sand pear fruit with attractive appearance and good inner qualities, fruit must be covered with light-impermeable bags at the early stage of fruit development and the bag should be removed totally at least 10 days before harvest.  相似文献

Ripe fruits of V. stamineum from seedlings of seeds collected from the wild in Florida and Georgia and grown in North Carolina, and from random population collections in western South Carolina were analyzed for total contents of anthocyanin (Acy) (7–101 mg/100 g) and flavonols (5–48 mg/100 g). Total Acy content was positively related to the intensity of surface coloration (white red to blue to purple). Neither Acy nor flavonol content was related to the geographic origin of the fruits, thus supporting the theory of common taxonomic classification. Three Acy were identified in these fruits, monoglycosides of the sugars galactose, arabinose, or glucose with the aglycone cyanidin. The monoglycosides of galactose and arabinose were found in all samples. The monoglycoside of glucose was found in trace amounts but was not found in all samples. Fruits of V. stamineum appear promising for introduction as a new crop or for incorporation into the breeding-program for commercial blueberries.  相似文献

Seven wild and ten cultivated blackberries (Arapaho, Bartin, Black Satin, Bursa 1, Bursa 2, Cherokee, Chester, Jumbo, Navaho, and Ness), and six lowbush (Vaccinium arctostaphylos) and four highbush (Vaccinium corymbosum) blueberries fruits (Ivanhoe, Jersey, Northland, and Rekord) were analyzed for total anthocyanins, total phenolics, and antioxidant activity as ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) in this study. The respective ranges of total anthocyanin and total phenolic contents of the tested samples were: blackberries, 0.95–1.97 and 1.73–3.79 mg g−1 and blueberries, 0.18–2.94 and 0.77–5.42 mg g−1. FRAP values varied from 35.05 to 70.41 μmol g−1 for blackberries, 7.41 to 57.92 μmol g−1 for blueberries. Wild blackberries had the highest FRAP values while wild blueberries had the highest total phenolic and total anthocyanin contents. A linear relationship was observed between FRAP values and total phenolics for blueberries (r = 0.981). The anthocyanin pigments in samples were isolated and characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV–visible detection. Cyn-3-glu was the predominant anthocyanin in all blackberry fruits.  相似文献

Petal coloration and anthocyanin compositions of 41 herbaceous peony cultivars were analyzed. Anthocyanins were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (HPLC–ESI-MSn) coupled with photodiode array detection (DAD). Peonidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside (Pn3G5G), pelargonidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside (Pg3G5G), cyanidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside (Cy3G5G), peonidin-3-O-glucoside (Pn3G), and cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (Cy3G) were the five major anthocyanins in herbaceous peony cultivars. Deep purple or reddish purple cultivars contained 4–5 anthocyanins, whereas pink cultivars only contained Cy3G5G and Pn3G5G, and their contents were much lower than those of purple cultivars. According to the chemical structures of three anthocyanidins in association with petal coloration, flowers were classified into three phenotypes: 1. “Pn, Cy, and Pg” (all purple flowers including two pink flowers); 2. “Pn, Cy” (pink flowers); 3 “Pn” (light pink and white flowers). The coloration mechanisms of cultivars with the pink and purple flowers were quite different. Correlations between lightness (L*) and chroma (C*), chromatic component a* and total anthocyanins (TA) value, a* and co-pigmentation index (CI) showed opposite tendencies, whereas L* and TA showed the same tendency in each group. High contents of Pn3G5G and Pg3G5G may responsible for the purple coloration of herbaceous peony cultivars.  相似文献

Three greenhouse experiments were carried out to determine the growth, yield, nitrate, total N and S concentration in shoots, and water uptake of hydroponically grown Brassica rapa L. subsp. nipposinica var. chinoleifera and Brassica juncea L. In each experiment, daily photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) level was 5.0 mol m−2 (low), 6.8 mol m−2 (medium) or 9.0 mol m−2 (high). Plants were supplied with nutrient solutions having equal N concentrations of 11 mM in different forms: 100% NH4, 50% NH4 + 50% NO3, and 100% NO3. Nitrogen supplied as 100% NH4 reduced fresh and dry shoot biomass, leaf area, and leaf number in both Brassica species, especially at low and medium PAR levels. In both Brassica species, S concentrations were highest, while nitrate concentrations were lowest in leaves of plants grown at N supplied as 100% NH4. No differences in leaf nitrate concentrations were observed between 50% NH4 + 50% NO3 and 100% NO3 treatments. Low and high PAR levels increased the nitrate concentrations and decreased the N/S ratio in leaves of both crops compared to medium PAR level. Fresh shoot biomass was maximized in Brassica rapa when PAR level was above the medium value and nitrate was supplied in the nutrient solution as NO3 or as a mixture of 50% NO3 and 50% NH4. The highest fresh shoot biomass of Brassica juncea was observed in all nutrient solution treatments at high PAR level.  相似文献

 采用HPLC-MS联用分析法,对‘心里美’萝卜(Raphanus sativus L.)芽、叶片以及肉质根中芥子油苷的组分与含量进行了鉴定和分析。结果表明,萝卜芽、叶片和根的芥子油苷组分相同,均检测出8种芥子油苷,其中脂肪族芥子油苷5种(4-甲基亚磺酰基-3-丁烯基芥子油苷、2-羟基-3-丁烯基芥子油苷、乙基芥子油苷、4-甲硫基-3-丁烯基芥子油苷和6-庚烯基芥子油苷),吲哚族芥子油苷3种(1-甲氧吲哚基-3-甲基芥子油苷、吲哚基-3-甲基芥子油苷和4-羟基吲哚基-3-甲基芥子油苷)。芥子油苷含量在萝卜芽、叶片和肉质根中差异很大,肉质根中芥子油苷的总含量高于萝卜芽和叶片。在肉质根和芽中,4-甲硫基-3-丁烯基芥子油苷是主要的芥子油苷,分别占芥子油苷总含量的75.5%和71.5%;而在叶片中,吲哚基-3-甲基芥子油苷是主要芥子油苷,占芥子油苷总含量的57.1%。  相似文献

Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) is rich source of dietary antioxidants, minerals and nutrients. Dietary antioxidants have been known as beneficial for enhancing the fitness, preventing certain diseases and even mitigating the effects of ageing. The objectives of the present study were to determine variability and inheritance of antioxidants, to identify antioxidant rich and productive genotypes, and to suggest suitable breeding approaches. The genotypes, namely Ofra, Chandler, Festival and Camarosa showed higher concentrations of dietary antioxidants and therefore could be useful in future breeding. Results indicate that the effect of the genotypes on antioxidant contents is stronger than that of the environment. The high heritability (>80%) and low genetic advance as percentage of mean (<40%) for ascorbic acid and β-carotene contents could be improved by heterosis breeding. However, selection and hybridization would be effective tools to enhance the phenols and anthocyanin content, and yield potential as these traits showed high heritability (>80%) and high genetic advance as percentage of mean (>40%). Positive direct effect on fruit yield was highest for phenol content (0.609) which is also fairly close to its correlation coefficient (0.765) indicating that a direct selection based on phenol content would be most effective and that the phenol content could be used as a reliable biochemical marker to identify the productive genotypes having higher amounts of dietary antioxidants. The information could also be used for developing antioxidant rich cultivars, i.e. ‘Breeding Strawberry for High Antioxidants’.  相似文献

 以萝卜芽为材料, 研究了10~100 mg/L 3种形态铁盐对萝卜芽生长、产量和品质的影响。结果表明, 施铁处理促进了萝卜芽的生长, 增加了芽苗产量和干物质含量, 提高了可食部分叶绿素、维生素C、游离氨基酸、活性铁和总铁含量, 3种形态铁盐以EDTA-Fe处理效果最好, FeC6H5O7次之, FeSO4最差, 3种铁盐均以50 mg/L Fe浓度处理较好。在相同处理条件下品种间存在显著差异。  相似文献

In order to identify genetic resources for breeding fragrant petunias for use as bedding plants, volatile compounds released by day from the flowers of 40 commercial Petunia hybrida cultivars were analyzed using a solid-phase micro-extraction technique coupled with GC–MS. The three cultivars with solid deep-blue flowers that accumulate malvidin in corollas with high tissue pH were found to emit abundant iso-eugenol as the principal floral fragrance. Several other cultivars that emitted considerable amounts of methylbenzoate and/or benzylbenzoate from the flower were also identified. Association between the floral fragrance and the other floral traits such as floral anthocyanin composition and corolla-tissue pH was discussed.  相似文献
