A laboratory feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of reducing digestible energy to protein (DE:P) ratios of practical diets on body fat and weight gain of channel catfish. Five diets were formulated to contain 32, 28, or 24% crude protein with typical DE:P ratios of 8.5, 9.9, or 11.4 kcal/g protein, respectively, and 28% or 24% protein with a reduced DE:P ratio of 8.5 kcal/g protein. Cellulose was used to adjust the DE:P ratio. Juvenile channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus (initial weight: 5.2 g/fish) were fed the experimental diets twice daily to apparent satiation for 12 wk. Fish fed the 28% protein diet with a reduced DE:P ratio of 8.5 kcal/g protein gained less weight and converted feed less efficiently than those fed the 28% protein diet with a typical DE:P ratio of 9.9 kcal/g protein. Fish fed the 24% protein diet with a reduced DE:P ratio of 8.5 kcal/g protein had a similar weight gain but converted feed less efficiently than those fed the 24% protein diet with a typical DE:P ratio of 11.4 kcal/g protein. Weight gain and feed conversion efficiency of fish fed the 32% protein diet with a typical DE:P ratio of 8.5 kcal/g protein were higher than for fish fed other diets except those fed the 28% protein diet with a DE:P ratio of 9.9 kcal/g protein. There were no differences in feed consumption and survival among dietary treatments. Fillet fat of fish fed the 24% and 28% protein diets with a reduced DE:P ratio was lower than that of the fish fed diets containing the same protein concentrations with typical DE:P ratios. At a DE:P ratio of 8.5 kcal/g protein, there were no differences in fillet fat concentration among fish fed diets containing different protein concentrations. There were no differences in fillet protein, moisture, and ash between fish fed the 24% or 28% protein diets containing reduced and typical DE:P ratios. Results from this study show that reducing DE:P ratios in practical diets lowers body fat but also depresses weight gain of channel catfish; thus it would not be economical to use this strategy to reduce body fat of the fish.  相似文献

为研究饲料中添加不同含量叔丁基氢醌(TBHQ)对大菱鲆幼鱼生长、血液生化指标、非特异性免疫及肠道组织结构的影响,在饲料中分别添加0、150、450和750 mg/kg的叔丁基氢醌,配制成4种等氮等脂实验饲料,选择初始体质量(8.31±0.04)g大菱鲆幼鱼,随机分成4组,每组6个重复,每个重复30尾,采用饱饲投喂方式,每天投喂2次,饲养周期为12 W。结果显示,与对照组相比,450和750 mg/kg TBHQ添加组大菱鲆的增重率、特定生长率均显著降低;450 mg/kg TBHQ添加组实验鱼血清碱性磷酸酶活力显著高于150 mg/kg TBHQ添加组;150 mg/kg TBHQ添加组实验鱼血清白蛋白和高密度脂蛋白含量显著低于对照组和450 mg/kg添加组;450 mg/kg TBHQ添加组鱼的血清肌酐含量显著高于对照组;150 mg/kg TBHQ添加组鱼的血清总蛋白含量显著低于对照组;饲料中添加高剂量的TBHQ能够显著升高血清中CAT、溶菌酶活力(450和750 mg/kg)及头肾吞噬细胞呼吸爆发活力(750 mg/kg);饲料中TBHQ添加量为750 mg/kg时,血清SOD活力显著降低;与对照组相比,饲料中添加450和750 mg/kg TBHQ能够显著降低中肠肠道绒毛长度与肠道直径比,而添加750 mg/kg TBHQ时中肠肠道做绒毛长度与肠道直径的比值显著降低。研究表明,饲料中TBHQ的添加量为150 mg/kg时,对大菱鲆幼鱼生长及生理生化指标无显著影响,而饲料中添加450 mg/kg以上的TBHQ则会对大菱鲆幼鱼的生长及生理状况产生一定负面作用。  相似文献

The dietary total and available requirement of tryptophan of Nile tilapia fingerlings was determined using linear regression analysis. Six hundred fish (3.4 ± 0.0 g) were fed diets containing 296.4 g/kg of crude protein and 14.1 MJ/kg of digestible energy. Five extruded diets containing 2.5, 3.0, 3.4, 3.8 and 4.2 g/kg of total tryptophan were evaluated. Fish were fed four times a day during 45 days. Final body weight, weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio and net protein utilization of fish fed Trp 3.4 and Trp 3.8 diets were improved compared to fish fed Trp 2.5 and Trp 4.2 diets. No significant differences in survival rate, whole‐body moisture and ash were observed. Whole‐body amino acid profile of fish fed different diets did not differ statistically (p > .05). Fish fed Trp 3.0 and Trp 3.4 diets showed higher tryptophan retention compared to fish fed Trp 2.5 and Trp 4.2 diets. Excepting blood glucose, no effects of dietary tryptophan on haematological parameters were observed. The dietary total tryptophan requirement of Nile tilapia fingerlings based on weight gain was estimated to be 3.4 g/kg (11.0 g/kg of dietary crude protein) or 3.0 g/kg of available tryptophan (11.0 g/kg of dietary digestible protein).  相似文献

The silver perch, Bidyanus bidyanus (Mitchell 1838), displays sexual dimorphism in size, with females reaching larger maximum size than males. In an attempt to produce all‐female populations, larvae at 30 d posthatching were fed an estradiol‐17β (E2) diet at dosages of 0, 60, and 120 mg/kg for 30 d. Histological examination of gonads revealed that all E2‐supplemented diets resulted in significantly higher (P < 0.05) feminization rates (97.22–100%) than did the control (39.69%) but with no difference between the two E2 diets (P > 0.05). Female and male gonads were observed in fish fed the 60 mg E2/kg diet. No significant differences were observed in the survival rate, weight gain, gonad weight and length, specific growth rate (SGR), or gonadosomatic indexes, except for gonad length and SGR at the end of the experiment. Although the ovary length of fish fed the 60 mg E2/kg diet was significantly shorter than that of the control groups, no abnormalities were detected. In contrast, fish fed 120 mg E2/kg grew faster than the other fish and showed sexual dimorphism. Our results suggest that supplementation of E2 at 60–120 mg/kg diet could be applied to establish all‐female populations of silver perch.  相似文献

Juvenile channel catfish (5.6 g/fish) were fed a basal diet that contained major protein (soybean meal, cottonseed meal) and energy (ground corn grain, wheat middlings) ingredients that were derived from plant sources. The basal diet was supplemented with three levels of crystalline taurine to provide 1, 2 and 5 g/kg taurine. In addition, a fifth diet that contained 80 g/kg menhaden fishmeal formulated with the same plant‐source ingredients was included as the positive control diet. Fish were fed the five diets once daily for 12 weeks. Weight gain was highest in catfish fed taurine at 2 g/kg (47.8 g/fish) compared to catfish fed the control basal diet (40.8 g/fish) and 80 g/kg fishmeal diet (41.1 g/fish) (< .05). Among the taurine‐supplemented diets, weight gain was lowest in catfish fed taurine at 5 g/kg. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly improved in fish fed diets supplemented with taurine at 2 g/kg compared to all other treatments (< .01). Survival during the growth study ranged from 98.0 to 99.0% (> .05) for all treatments. The results suggest taurine supplementation to juvenile channel catfish may improve weight gain and FCR.  相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to assess the interaction between dietary protein levels and fish growth, digestibility and activity of immunity‐related enzymes of Plectropomus leopardus. Five diets with different protein levels (400 g/kg, 450 g/kg, 500 g/kg, 550 g/kg and 600 g/kg protein) were designed. P. leopardus fed with 500 g/kg, 550 g/kg and 600 g/kg dietary protein, showed higher weight gain rates than fish fed 400 g/kg and 450 g/kg dietary protein. Ingestion rate in fish fed with 500 g/kg dietary protein was significantly higher than those with other diets. P. leopardus fed with 500 g/kg, 550 g/kg and 600 g/kg dietary protein, showed that feed coefficients were significantly lower than those fed with 400 g/kg and 450 g/kg dietary protein. Net protein utilization was significantly lower in fish fed with 400 g/kg diet than those with other diets. Fish fed with 400 g/kg and 450 g/kg dietary protein had an apparent feed digestibility coefficient for dry matter that was significantly lower than that with other diets. Protease activity was highest in fish fed on 500 g/kg dietary protein. Fish fed with 500 g/kg dietary protein, had the highest superoxide dismutase activity. Fish fed with 600 g/kg dietary protein, had the highest alkaline phosphatase activity. Thus, a diet containing 500 g/kg protein is recommended for P. leopardus aquaculture.  相似文献

Six isoproteic diets were designated to evaluate the effects of dietary lipid levels (from 70 to 270 g/kg) on the growth performance, feed utilization, digestive tract enzyme activity and lipid deposition of juvenile Brachymystax lenok (average initial weight 0.54 ± 0.04 g). Each diet was fed to triplicate tanks (30 fish per tank) in an indoor closed recirculating system for 9 weeks. Final body weight and weight gain were highest in fish fed 190 g/kg diet and lowest in fish fed the 70 g/kg diet. Specific growth rate of fish fed with 190 g/kg diet was significantly higher than those fed with 70 and 270 g/kg diets (< .05). Protein efficiency ratio of fish fed with 70 g/kg diet was significantly lower than the 110–230 g/kg treatments and was not significantly different from the 270 g/kg treatment. Fish fed with 270 g/kg diet had significantly higher hepatosomatic index and viscerosomatic index than those fed with 70–190 g/kg diets (< .05). Intraperitoneal fat ratio and the whole‐body lipid content had a trend to increase with increase in dietary lipid level. Muscle crude lipid content increased up to 190 g/kg with increase in dietary lipid level. Lipid retention decreased with increase in dietary lipid level, while no significant differences in protein intake and retention levels were observed in fish among all treatments. Lipase activity of the mixture of pyloric caeca and foregut in fish fed 190 and 230 g/kg diets was significantly higher than those fed 70 and 110 g/kg diets. Midgut and hindgut lipase activities of fish were significantly higher than those fed the 190 and 230 g/kg diets. In conclusion, based on the second‐order polynomial model of WG and FCR, this study suggested that 173.8–195.0 g/kg dietary lipid levels were appropriated for B. lenok.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of coconut oil as a dietary supplement on the growth, lipid metabolism and related gene expressions of juvenile orange‐spotted grouper Epinephelus coioides. Coconut oil at concentrations of 0, 10, 30 and 50 g/kg was used to replace dietary lipids in a basal diet containing 150 g/kg lipids. The four experimental diets were, respectively, fed to triplicate groups of juvenile groupers (initial weight: 8.53 ± 0.13 g) in a recirculating system for 8 weeks. Fish fed the diet containing 50 g/kg coconut oil exhibited lower (p < .05) weight gain than did fish fed the diet containing 30 g/kg coconut oil; however, no significant differences in weight gain were observed between fish fed diets containing 0 and 10 g/kg coconut oil. Hepatic carnitine palmitoyltransferase‐1, fatty acid synthase, fatty acid elongase, fatty acid desaturase and peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor gamma gene expressions were all the highest in fish fed the diet containing 10 g/kg coconut oil. Fish fed the coconut oil‐free basal diet demonstrated upregulated gene expression of neuropeptide Y. The results suggest that dietary supplementation with 10 g/kg coconut oil exerted beneficial effects on lipid metabolism by E. coioides.  相似文献

The effect of dietary digestible protein/digestible energy (DP/DE) ratios and feeding level on growth, feed efficiency, nutrient and energy usage by Atlantic salmon ( Salmo salar ; initial body weight, 7.0 g/fish) at 15°C was investigated in a 16-week feeding trial. Three diets, differing in their DP and DE contents, namely 37/18 (regular diet, RD), 37/21 (high fat diet, HF) and 44/ 22 (high nutrient-dense diet, HND) g/MJ of dry feed were formulated. DP/DE ratios were 20, 18 and 20 g/MJ for the RD, HF and HND diets, respectively. Salmon were hand-fed three times a day at either 100% or 85% of the feed requirement estimated by a bioenergetics model. At each feeding level, DE intake (kJ/fish) was similar for all three diets. Diet composition did not affect growth rate. However, increasing the digestible energy density from 18 to 22 MJ/kg of dry feed resulted in a significant increase ( P  < 0.05) in feed efficiency. Restricting feed intake significantly decreased live body weight gains for all diets. However, feed efficiency was not affected by feeding level. Diet composition and feeding level did not affect carcass composition and nutrient and energy usage, with the exception of a higher ( P  < 0.05) carcass lipid of fish fed the HF100 diet compared with the fish fed the RD and HND diets and a higher ( P  < 0.05) lipid gain (g/fish) of fish fed the HF100 diet compared with fish fed all the diets at the restricted feeding level. Restricting feeding resulted in significantly lower ( P  < 0.05) energy gain (kJ/fish) compared with fish fed at 100%. Increasing the DE and nutrient density of the diet had no effect on growth but improved feed efficiency and lowered solid wastes (g of solid wastes per kg of fish produced) while dissolved wastes were not affected by dietary ormulation.  相似文献

Gonad colour, determined by accumulated carotenoids, is an important marketability factor in sea urchin products. In this study, dietary carotenoids were fed to Paracentrotus lividus in prepared diets to test their effects on the sea urchin's gonad colour. All diets had the same basic content of protein, lipid, carbohydrate, ash and energy. Four diets were enriched with: (I) all-trans β-carotene; (II) astaxanthin; (III) zeaxanthin/lutein/β-carotene; and (IV) capsanthin/zeaxanthin/lutein/cryptoxanthin/β-carotene. A fifth diet had Dunaliella bardawil algal powder containing all-trans and 9-cis β-carotene added, and a sixth one was a control diet with no added carotenoids. Sea urchins were fed the control diet (no pigments) for 4 weeks, then the six experimental diets for 8 weeks. Carotenoid concentration in the gut and gonad was determined by tri-dimensional photo-diode array high performance liquid chromatography. Four qualitative colour categories were established: brown, pale yellow, medium-orange, and mango-orange.Gonad development and test diameter increased equally in all diet treatments. Carotenoid profile and concentration in the gut were higher than in the gonad or in the feed. Total carotenoid concentration was four- to ten-fold greater in the gut than in the gonad, and carotenoid profile in the gut was different from that of the diet. Gut and gonad total carotenoids, β-carotene, and echinenone concentration were not dependent on total dietary carotenoid concentration. Total carotenoid and β-carotene concentration in the gut, and total carotenoid and echinenone concentration in the gonad were significantly dependent on dietary β-carotene concentration. The percentage of gonads with acceptable colour was positively correlated with dietary and gut β-carotene concentration. Carotenoids not normally contained in the diet of P. lividus (astaxanthin, capsanthin and capsorbin), did not accumulate in the gonad. Echinenone was found in all gut and gonad samples. Over 90% of the gonads from P. lividus fed Dunaliella algal powder diet developed the optimal mango-orange colour and this diet led to the greatest echinenone concentration.  相似文献

This study compared the ability of juvenile non-transgenic (NT) and transgenic growth hormone (T; gene construct OnMTGH1) coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) to metabolically utilize energy from lipid and carbohydrate for growth at two dietary protein concentrations. Triplicate groups of size-matched (initial weight, 28.2–29.1 g) NT and T salmon held in 10.5–10.8 °C well water on a natural phototocycle (12.25 h → 8.25 h) were each fed one of four isoenergetic (~ 17.5 MJ of digestible energy (DE)/kg) dry diets twice daily to satiation for 83 days. These diets contained 340 g (LP) or 430 g (HP) of estimated digestible protein (DP)/kg and either 123 g (LL) or 164 g (HL) of estimated digestible lipid (DL)/kg at each DP level (dry weight basis). Estimated digestible carbohydrate (DCHO) concentrations ranged from 45 to 269 g/kg to equalize dietary DE. Under the preceding conditions 46–66% of NT and 18.7–27.5% of T coho, depending upon diet treatment, exhibited no growth or lost weight during the study. NT coho are known to grow slowly or lose weight between the fall equinox and winter solstice but this was unexpected for T coho. Considering all fish T coho, regardless of diet treatment, exhibited significantly higher specific growth rates (SGR) than NT fish due to enhanced feed intake, feed and protein (gross and available deposited) utilization and generally improved available energy utilization. Diet treatment did not affect the growth performance of T fish. Within NT fish, the HP diets supported best gross and available protein and energy utilization. SGR values for growing fish (FG) only followed identical trends to those for all fish in relation to diet treatment. Regardless of fish genotype, terminal hepatosomatic indices for FG were directly related to dietary DCHO content and maximum values were noted in NT fish fed LP–LL (significantly higher than observed in NT or T fish fed HP–HL). Final whole body protein concentrations adjusted for dissimilar fish size were higher in T fish fed HP–HL than in T fish fed LP diets and NT fish fed LP–LL. This was also true for T fish fed HP–LL versus T fish fed the LP diets. Within HP groups, whole body lipid and energy contents were generally higher in NT versus T fish whereas within the LP groups energy content was significantly higher in T versus NT fish and was highest in T fish fed LP–LL. Terminal plasma titres for GH and IGF–1 (all fish) were significantly higher in T than in NT fish and were generally uninfluenced by diet treatment. Non-growing NT and T fish had elevated GH relative to NT and T fish that grew. Also, GH was higher in growing T fish relative to growing NT fish whereas the opposite was true in non-growing fish. Plasma IGF-1 levels were higher in growing NT and T fish than in their respective non-growing counterparts. Within FG only, IGF-1 levels were higher in T versus NT fish.It is concluded that T coho have enhanced ability to effectively utilize DE from DCHO relative to NT fish especially when DP is near the bottom of the optimal range and DL is concurrently suboptimal for NT fish. This is likely due to the elevated titres of GH, IGF-1 and 3,5,3′-triiodo-l-thyronine (measured in another study) in T fish. Also, the enhanced ability of T fish to store energy under these dietary conditions suggests enzymatic improvements in their anaerobic and aerobic metabolism of glucose.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate effects of and interactions between nanoselenium (NanoSe) and nanomagnesium (NanoMg) on growth, humoral immunity, serum biochemistry and antioxidant capacity of juvenile Asian seabass Lates calcarifer reared in freshwater. Four groups of fish with an average weight of 32.78 ± 2.23 g were fed one of the experimental diets for 6 weeks: (a) control (basal diet); (b) NanoSe (basal diet + 4 mg NanoSe/kg diet); (c) NanoMg (basal diet + 500 mg NanoMg/kg diet); and (d) combination (basal diet + 4 mg NanoSe/kg diet + 500 mg NanoMg/kg diet). Fish fed with NanoSe‐supplemented diets (NanoSe and combination) showed higher weight gain, specific growth rate and feed intake. The combination of NanoSe and NanoMg enhanced the immune response. Also, fish fed on combination diet showed higher serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate transaminase levels but lower glucose concentration. The activities of liver superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase were not different among all groups, but liver malondialdehyde level was lower in fish fed diets supplemented with NanoSe and/or NanoMg. It could be concluded that NanoSe improved growth performance; the combination of both NanoSe and NanoMg enhanced humoral immunity; and NanoSe and/or NanoMg improved antioxidant capacity in Asian seabass.  相似文献

Abstract.– Juvenile channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus (initial weight: 6.8 g/fish) were fed four practical diets containing 0, 250, 500, and 750 units of microbial phytase/kg and a diet containing 1% feed grade dicalcium phosphate (but no microbial phytase) under laboratory conditions for 12 wk. Fish fed the diets containing 250 units of microbial phytase/kg and above consumed more feed, gained more weight, and had a lower feed conversion ratio (FCR) in comparison to fish fed the basal diet containing no microbial phytase. Fish fed the diet containing dicalcium phosphate had intermediate weight gain and feed conversion ratio as compared to fish fed the basal diet and diets containing microbial phytase. Bone ash and phosphorus concentrations were lower for fish fed the basal diet than for fish fed other diets. No differences in weight gain, feed consumption, FCR, bone ash and bone phosphorus were observed among fish fed the diets containing various levels of microbial phytase. Fish fed the diet containing dicalcium phosphate had a lower bone phosphorus concentration than fish fed diets containing microbial phytase. Fecal phosphorus concentrations were lower for fish fed the diets containing microbial phytase than for fish fed the basal diet and the diet containing dicalcium phosphate. Results from the present study indicated that addition of 250 units of microbial phytase/kg to practical diets can effectively improve bioavailability of phytate phosphorus to channel catfish and may possibly eliminate the use of an inorganic phosphorus supplement in channel catfish diets. However, these data must be verified in trials conducted in ponds, prior to recommending removal of supplemental phosphorus from channel catfish diets.  相似文献

The effects of changing the proportion of non-protein energy sources in diets for hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops × M. saxatilis, Walbaum) were evaluated. Lipid (menhaden fish oil) and carbohydrate (wheat flour/dextrin 1:l) were varied at two digestible energy (DE) levels (2.9 kcal/g and 3.3 kcal/g) using a constant protein level of 35%. Fish fed at the lower energy level had significantly higher weight gain and protein efficiency ratios (PER) when lipid was 15% with no added carbohydrate. Fish fed at the higher energy level. however, exhibited signifcantly higher weight gain, apparent protein retention, and PER at 10% lipid and 30% added carbohydrates. Growth on this diet was also significantly better than other diets at both energy levels.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to determine the dietary vitamin C requirement of juvenile hybrid striped bass Morone chrysops × M. saxatilis . Fish were fed a semi-purified basal diet with 40% crude protein and an energy to protein ratio of 8 kcal/g for a conditioning period of 2 wk. This diet which was not supplemented with vitamin C contained approximately 6-mg vitamin C/kg. Following conditioning, fish (approximately 0.55 g initial weight) were stocked as groups of 20 in 38-L aquaria and fed the basal diet and experimental diets supplemented with 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 75, or 150-mg vitamin C/kg as ascorbate polyphosphate for a period of 10 wk. Fish fed the basal diet and the diet supplemented with 10-mg vitamin C/kg exhibited signs of vitamin C deficiency including suppressed weight gain, reduced plasma and liver ascorbic acid levels, and abnormalities in isthmus cartilage formation. Plasma and liver ascorbic acid levels generally reflected dietary supplementation with the lowest levels occurring in fish fed the basal diet and higher levels in fish fed the supplemented diets. The minimum dietary requirement (±SE) based on non-linear least squares regression analysis of weight gain was 22 (±6) mg vitamin C/kg diet.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the optimum dietary level of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n‐3) based on growth and non‐specific immune responses in juvenile rock bream. A basal diet without EPA supplementation was used as a control, and six other diets were prepared by supplementing with 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 40 g of EPA per kg diet. The actual EPA concentrations of the diets were 0.5, 4.3, 8.5, 13.0, 16.8, 21.0 and 41.2 g of EPA per kg diet, and the diets were abbreviated as EPA0.5, EPA4.3, EPA8.5, EPA13.0, EPA16.8, EPA21.0 and EPA41.2, respectively. Triplicate groups of fish averaging 1.06 ± 0.01 g (mean ± SD) were fed one of the seven experimental diets at the apparent satiation for 8 weeks. At the end of the feeding trial, weight gain, specific growth rate and feed efficiency of fish fed EPA16.8, EPA21.0 and EPA41.2 diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed EPA0.5, EPA4.3, EPA8.5 and EPA13.0 diets (< .05). Superoxide dismutase activity of fish fed EPA16.8, EPA21.0 and EPA41.2 diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed EPA0.5, EPA4.3 and EPA8.5 diets. Fish fed EPA21.0 and EPA41.2 diets showed significantly higher lysozyme activity than did fish fed EPA0.5, EPA4.3, EPA8.5 and EPA13.0 diets. The broken‐line analysis of weight gain indicated that the optimum dietary EPA level was 16.7 g/kg diet. These results suggested that the optimum dietary EPA level in juvenile rock bream could be greater than 16.7 g/kg diet but less than or equal to 16.8 g/kg diet based on the broken‐line analysis and the ANOVA test of weight gain.  相似文献

It is generally considered that fish respond to dietary energy densities on a consistent basis irrespective of what macronutrient source the dietary energy originates from. To test this assumption, two experiments were undertaken to establish the different roles of protein, lipid and starch as energy sources in underpinning nutritional bioenergetics in juvenile barramundi, Lates calcarifer. To do this, a range of ingredients were evaluated for their digestible protein (DP) and digestible energy (DE) value. Following this, a series of diets were formulated to an equivalent DE basis, and observed a minimum DP:DE ratio required for fish of 80 g. However, in each of the diets the proportion of DE available from protein, lipid or starch was varied to bias the contribution of each macronutrient on the origin that DE when fed to the fish. Growth of fish fed the protein diet was better than those fed the lipid diet, which was better than those fed the starch diet. Feed intake was lower in the protein diet than the lipid diet, and both were lower than the starch diet. Feed conversion was most efficient in the protein diet fed fish, which was better than the lipid diet fed fish, which was better than the starch diet fed fish. Whole fish composition varied among treatments, with differences observed in the dry matter composition, whole body lipid and gastrointestinal tract lipid content. Typically, lipid and dry matter composition were in synchrony and were usually higher in the starch fed fish and lower in the lipid fed fish. When flux of protein, lipid and energy was assessed in terms of deposition efficiencies, some significant differences were observed. Protein deposition efficiency was relatively conservative, but ranged from 33% in the starch diet fed fish to 41% in the lipid diet fed fish. Lipid deposition efficiency was more dramatic; ranging from 40% in the lipid diet to 182% in the starch diet. Energy deposition efficiency was relatively conservative among treatments, ranging from 50% to 56% efficient. Overall, the results from this study show that there is a clear hierarchy in preference for energy substrates by juvenile barramundi, such that protein > lipid > starch.  相似文献

Frass is the by‐product of the larval meal industry and includes larval waste, exoskeleton sheds and residual feed ingredients. Experimental frass was derived from the larvae of black solder flies fed distillers' dried grains with solubles and had a protein and fat content of 216 and 60 g/kg, respectively. A 10‐week study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary levels of frass on growth, feed utilization, and body proximate and mineral composition of channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus. Five diets containing 0, 50, 100, 200 and 300 g frass per kg diet were fed to channel catfish (5.24 ± 0.04 g) in quadruplicate aquaria to apparent satiation twice daily. Final weight gain was significantly increased in fish fed diets containing frass at levels from 100 to 300 g/kg. Fish fed diets without frass, and with 300 g/kg frass, showed the lowest and highest feed intake, respectively. Feed and protein efficiencies, however, were significantly lower in fish fed frass at levels of 200 g/kg and higher compared to the control diet. Survival, whole‐body composition and mineral content were not affected by frass. In summary, black soldier fly larval frass has potential as a protein source or just an ingredient for enhancing palatability of catfish diets.  相似文献
