With the ever-changing landscape of translational research, the medical device and pharmaceutical industries increasingly license technologies with the added value of clinical and/or pre-clinical data rather than those in earlier stages of development. Universities have the potential to fill the gap in product development from academic laboratories through enhanced student training and increased implementation of some development and manufacturing activities that are traditionally found only in the private sector. A development roadmap is described from initial product feasibility through commercialization in the context of efficient development practices. The specific challenges in the design and development of biomaterial-based medical devices are described in the context of this development path with an emphasis on unique challenges for academic laboratories. 相似文献

以切花文心兰“黄金2号”(Oncidium Golden No.2)幼苗和成熟苗为材料,研究了施用不同肥料对文心兰叶片酶活性的影响.结果表明,高浓度专用肥会显著降低文心兰叶片超氧化物歧化酶(superoxide dismutase,SOD)活性,中浓度专用肥、低浓度专用肥、叶面肥和缓释肥能显著提高幼苗叶片超氧化物歧化酶活性,而对成熟苗叶片酶活性没影响;施肥对文心兰叶片过氧化物酶(peroxidase,POD)活性影响不大;高浓度专用肥同样会显著降低文心兰叶片过氧化氢酶(catalase,CAT)活性,而其它施肥均能显著提高幼苗叶片过氧化氢酶活性.因此,中浓度专用肥、低浓度专用肥、叶面肥和缓释肥均可显著提高文心兰幼苗的SOD和CAT活性,增强植株抵抗逆境的能力. 相似文献

Abstract Maize grain yields have increased dramatically over the past fifty years, and concurrently end-uses have proliferated requiring special quality characteristics. Plant breeders have developed many specialty types of maize, all of which are influenced by the agronomic practices used to produce the crop. Grain yield increases have resulted in lower protein concentration except when the yield increase resulted from nitrogen fertilizer application. Irrigation improves the biological value of protein, while higher nitrogen application rates alter the amino acid balance thereby reducing the nutritional value. Kernel breakage susceptibility and kernel density increase with higher nitrogen fertilizer application rates, and are reduced by irrigation. Extractable starch and oil concentration are largely influenced by hybrid choice, but small production practice effects have been documented. Essential mineral nutrient levels are often influenced by soil or foliar fertilizer application. The production of aflatoxin can be reduced by irrigation or other strategies to avoid water stress during grain fill. Although genetics usually exerts the largest effect on maize grain quality, agronomic practices are also important. 相似文献

SUMMARY Social ecology provides a broad framework for critically examining the theory and practice of pest management, and the institutional and psychosocial contexts within which all theories and practices are developed and implemented. Such an analysis finds most current theories and practices seriously wanting, but also reveals extensive opportunities for innovation and improvement. The greatest need is for a shift in emphasis from a responsive, symptom-based, linear approach based on biocides and their substitutes to a proactive, holistic approach based on knowledge-intensive, ecosystem design and redesign, and whole systems management (based particularly on the further development of cultural controls). Although this will require broader parallel changes within individuals and throughout society, significant improvement can be made by focusing on small achievable initiatives and their public celebration to facilitate their spread. The developments in pest management being proposed here are regarded as one expression of the ongoing psychosocial evolution of our species. 相似文献

Summary After an initial phase of development and programme establishment the activities of the International Potato Center (CIP)
grew rapidly from 1981 to 1985, putting emphasis on germplasm distribution, research on diffused-light storage and TPS, and
exploration of sources of resistance. Later, strong emphasis was given to genetic resource utilization and field resistance
to late blight. The impact of CIP research showed internal rates of return ranging from 26 to 102 percent.
At the end of the 1980s CIP's financial resources were cut severely and restructuring the programme was necessary. Through
a careful process of prioritizing, programmes are identified which will contribute most to ensuring the continued increase
of potato production in developing countries and to continuing the leading role of CIP in potato research. 相似文献
