Duckweed (Lemna minor), a floating macrophyte belonging to the Lemnaceae family, is commonly found in subtropical paddy fields. This plant rapidly takes up nutrients from water and forms dense floating mats over the water surface that may impact the biogeochemical processes and greenhouse gas production in paddy fields. In this study, we measured CH4 and N2O emissions from duckweed and non-duckweed plots in a subtropical paddy field in China during the period of rice growth using static chamber and gas chromatography methods. Our results showed that CH4 emission rate ranged from 0.19 to 26.50 mg m?2 h?1 in the duckweed plots, and from 1.02 to 28.02 mg m?2 h?1 in the non-duckweed plots. The CH4 emission peak occurred about 1 week earlier in the duckweed plots compared to the non-duckweed counterparts. The mean CH4 emission rate in the duckweed plots (9.28 mg m?2 h?1) was significantly lower than that in non-duckweed plots (11.66 mg m?2 h?1) (p < 0.05), which might be attributed to the higher water and soil Eh in the former. N2O emission rates varied between ?50.11 and 201.82 µg m?2 h?1, and between ?28.93 and 54.42 µg m?2 h?1 in the duckweed and non-duckweed plots, respectively. The average N2O emission rate was significantly higher in the duckweed plots than in the non-duckweed plots (40.29 vs. 11.93 µg m?2 h?1) (p < 0.05). Our results suggest that the presence of duckweed will reduce CH4 emission, but increase N2O flux simultaneously. Taking into account the combined global warming potentials of CH4 and N2O, we found that growing duckweed could reduce the overall greenhouse effect of subtropical paddy fields by about 17 %.  相似文献

Nitrogen fertilizer practices affect nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from agricultural soils. The “4R” nutrient stewardship framework of using N fertilizer at the right rate, right source, right placement and right time can reduce N2O emissions while maintaining or improving yield of field crops, but understanding of how the various factors affect N2O emissions from irrigated processing potato is lacking. We examined the effects of selected 4R practices on emissions, using results from two irrigated processing potato studies each conducted in 2011 and 2012 in Manitoba, Canada. Experiment 1 examined combinations of source (urea, ESN), placement (pre-plant incorporation [PPI], banding), and rate (100 and 200 kg N ha-1) on a clay loam soil. Experiment 2 examined timing and source treatment combinations (urea PPI, ESN PPI, urea split, urea split/fertigation) on a loamy fine sandy soil. For Experiment 1, use of ESN at 200 kg ha-1 did not reduce area-, yield- and applied fertilizer N- based N2O emissions compared to urea at 200 kg ha-1, irrespective of placement. Emissions from pre-plant banding ESN at 200 kg ha?1, however, were 32% lower than from PPI ESN. For Experiment 2, compared to single pre-plant urea application, fertigation simulated by in-season application of urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) gave lower area-, yield- and applied fertilizer N- based emissions. Split urea ( \( \raisebox{1ex}{$2$}\!\left/ \!\raisebox{-1ex}{$3$}\right. \) pre-plant, \( \raisebox{1ex}{$1$}\!\left/ \!\raisebox{-1ex}{$3$}\right. \) hilling) also reduced area- and yield- based N2O emissions compared to single pre-plant urea application. Emissions were generally lower at the site with loamy fine sandy soil than the site with clay loam soil. These results demonstrate that combinations of “4R” practices rather than source alone are best to achieve reductions in N2O emissions from irrigated potato production.  相似文献

While the application rate of nitrogen fertilizer is believed to dramatically influence rice fields and improve the soil conditions in paddy fields, fertilization with low use efficiency and nitrogen loss may cause environmental pollution. In this paper, 15N-labeled urea was used to trace the fate of nitrogen at four rates (0, 75, 225 and 375 kg N/ha) of urea fertilizer over three split applications in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, in 2014. Plant biomass, the soil nitrogen content of different layers, NH3 volatilization and N2O emissions were determined using the 15N abundance to calculate the portion from nitrogen fertilizer. The results indicated that rice yields increased with the application rate of nitrogen fertilizer. NH3 volatilization is the main nitrogen loss pathway, and N2O emissions were significantly associated with nitrogen application rates in the paddy. The percent of nitrogen loss by NH3 volatilization and N2O emissions increased with the nitrogen application rate. This study showed that the suitable N fertilizer in a loam clay paddy, considering the yield requirements and environmental issues, is approximately 225 kg N/ha in Hangzhou, with a distribution of 50.06% of the residual in the rice and soil and 48.77% loss as NH3 volatilization and N2O emissions. The nitrate from fertilization mainly remained in the 0–20 cm level of the topsoil.  相似文献

We studied the effects of water regimes and nutrient amendments on CH4 and N2O emissions in a 2 × 3 factorial, completely randomised growth chamber experiment. Treatments included continuously flooded (CF) and alternate wetting and drying (AWD), and three organic amendments: no amendment-control, rice straw (RS) and biochar (BC). Compound fertiliser was applied to all treatments. Rice was grown in columns packed with a paddy soil from Cambodia. Results revealed faster mineralisation of organic carbon (RS and BC) when applied in water-saturated conditions lasting for 2 weeks instead of flooding. This resulted in lower total CH4 emissions in treatments under AWD than those under the CF water regime, namely 44 % in RS treatments and 29 % in BC treatments. Nitrous oxide fluxes were generally non-detectable during the experimental period except after fertilisation events, and the total N2O–N emissions accounted for on average 1.7 % of the total applied mineral fertiliser N. Overall, the global warming potentials (GWPs) were lower in treatments under AWD than those under the CF water regime except for the control treatment with only mineral fertiliser application. Grain yields were slightly higher in treatments under AWD than the CF water regime. Hence, the yield-scaled GWP was also lower in the treatments under the AWD water regime, namely 51 % in RS, 59 % in BC and 17 % in control treatments. Control treatments had the lowest GWP, but provided the highest yield. The yield-scaled GWP under these treatments was therefore lower than under the other treatments.  相似文献

Macropores resulting from soil pedogenesis, biological activity, and agricultural practices play important roles in soil water, chemical and gas transport; however, seldom studies focus on the effect of soil macropores on CO2 behavior. In this study, a 150-day soil column incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the CO2 behavior in a homogeneous soil column and a soil column with an artificial macropore, which have the same total porosity. The results showed that the cumulative CO2 fluxes observed in the soil with a macropore (57.2 g m?2) were higher than those in the homogeneous soil (52.7 g m?2). The soil cumulative CO2 fluxes measured using column incubation can fit the kinetic model, and a higher carbon mineralization rate in the soil with the macropore was found. The results of the incubation experiment also suggest that macropore increased the gas diffusivities, and thus decreased the CO2 concentrations in the soil profile. This study proposed a simulation experiment and quantified the effect of macropore on soil CO2 behavior, which could help to understand the mechanism of CO2 emission from soil with macropores especially caused by agricultural practices.  相似文献

Many papers on measurements of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission in rice paddies during a rice cropping season have been published. During a non-cropping season between Nov. and Apr., we investigated direct and indirect GHGs emissions in rice paddies. The indirect GHGs emission was evaluated as the amount of dissolved gases leaching from the paddy fields. Water management practices for the experiment were (1) continuous flooding (CF) and (2) non-flooding (NF). Although the direct CO2 emission in the CF treatment was remained nearly zero during the non-cropping period, direct CO2 emission in the NF treatment was continuously observed throughout the non-cropping period. The concentration of dissolved N2O in the NF treatment was below the detection limit of the instrument during the non-cropping period except immediately after the flooding and before the drainage. The concentration of dissolved N2O kept approximately 2 µg L?1 during the non-cropping period in the CF treatment. The direct CH4 emission and dissolved CH4 were not observed during the non-cropping period. Total gas emission in the NF treatment was 10 times as large as that in the CF treatment. Direct CO2 emission accounted for more than 90 % of the total emission in both treatments.  相似文献

Water management is known to be a key factor on methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from paddy soils. A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of continuous irrigation (CI) and intermittent irrigation (II) on these emissions. Methane, CO2, and N2O emissions from a paddy soil were sampled weekly using a semi-static closed chamber and quantified with the photoacoustic technique from May to November 2011 in Amposta (Ebro Delta, NE Spain). Intermittent irrigation of rice paddies significantly stimulated (N2O + N2)–N emission, whereas no substantial N2O emission was observed when the soil was re-wetted after the dry phase. The cumulative emission of (N2O + N2)–N was significantly larger from the II plots (0.73 kg N2O–N ha?1 season–1, P < 0.05) than from the CI plots (?1.40 kg N2O–N ha?1 season?1). Draining prior to harvesting increased N2O emissions. Draining and flooding cycles controlled CO2 emission. The cumulative CO2 emission from II was 8416.35 kg CO2 ha?1 season?1, significantly larger than that from CI (6045.26 kg CO2 ha?1 season?1, P < 0.05). Lower CH4 emission due to water drainage increased CO2 emissions. The soil acted as a sink of CH4 for both types of irrigation. Neither N2O–N nor CH4 emissions were affected by soil temperature. Global warming potential was the highest in II (4738.39 kg CO2 ha?1) and the lowest in CI (3463.41 kg CO2 ha?1). These findings suggest that CI can significantly mitigate the integrative greenhouse effect caused by CH4 and N2O from paddy fields while ensuring the highest rice yield.  相似文献

Nitrous oxide (N2O) emission from croplands in China is a serious environmental concern. Water management is an important factor in regulating N2O emissions from croplands. In China, controlled irrigation (CI) is one mode of the water-saving irrigation for rice and is widely used. This study aims to assess the lasting effects of CI on N2O emissions from winter wheat croplands in Southeast China, with traditional irrigation (TI) as the control. CI performed during the rice-growing season had obvious lasting effects on N2O emissions of the subsequent winter wheat-growing season. Compared with TI, CI significantly increased the cumulative N2O emission by 129.1 % during the rice-growing season (p < 0.05), but significantly decreased it by 47.7 % during the wheat season (p < 0.05). Continuous flooding of the TI during most of the rice-growing season resulted in an increase in N2O emissions during the winter wheat-growing season. Over the whole annual cycle, the cumulative N2O emission from the plots under CI during the rice-growing season was 5.3 kg N2O–N ha?1, which was 103.2 % of that under TI (p > 0.05). The results suggest that CI does not significantly increase the cumulative N2O emission from the rice–winter wheat rotation systems while insuring rice and wheat yields. This study focuses on the lasting effects of water-saving irrigation mode during rice-growing season on N2O emissions during the following wheat-growing season. Thus, it is a development and complement of the previous researches on the effects of water-saving irrigation on N2O emissions from rice–winter wheat rotation croplands.  相似文献

System of rice intensification (SRI) is an alternate method of conventional puddled, transplanted, and continuously flooded rice cultivation for higher yield, water saving, and increased farmer’s income. The SRI may also have considerable impact on greenhouse gas emission because of difference in planting, water and nutrient management practices. A field experiment was conducted with three planting methods: conventional puddled transplanted rice (TPR), conventional SRI with 12-days-old seedling (SRI) and modified SRI with 18-days-old seedling (MSRI) to study their effect on methane and nitrous oxide emission. Seasonal integrated flux (SIF) for methane was highest in the conventional method (22.59 kg ha?1) and lowest in MSRI (8.16 kg ha?1). Methane emissions with SRI and MSRI decreased by 61.1 and 64 %, respectively, compared to the TPR method. Cumulative N2O–N emission was 0.69, 0.90, and 0.89 kg ha?1 from the TPR, SRI, and MSRI planting methods, respectively. An average of 22.5 % increase in N2O–N emission over the TPR method was observed in the SRI and MSRI methods. The global warming potential (GWP), however, reduced by 28 % in SRI and 30 % in MSRI over the TPR method. A 36 % of water saving was observed with both SRI and MSRI methods. Grain yield in the SRI and MSRI methods decreased by 4.42 and 2.2 %, respectively, compared to the TPR method. Carbon efficiency ratio was highest in the MSRI and lowest in the TPR method. This study revealed that the SRI and MSRI methods were effective in reducing GWP and saving water without yield penalty in rice.  相似文献

Methane (CH4) emission and water productivity were estimated in an experiment conducted during wet (rainy) season of 2010 at the research farm of Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India. Treatments comprising three methods of crop establishment viz., conventional transplanting (CT), system of rice intensification (SRI) and double transplanting (DT) were laid out in randomized block design with four replications. Scented rice (Oryza sativa L) variety ‘Pusa Basmati 1401’ was transplanted in puddle field. In CT and SRI 21 and 12-day-old seedlings, respectively, were transplanted while in DT overall 45-day-old seedlings were transplanted. In CT and DT flooded conditions while in SRI saturated conditions were maintained. Results indicated that among the methods of crop establishment, CT had maximum cumulative CH4 emission (32.33 kg ha?1) followed by DT (29.30 kg ha?1) and SRI (19.93 kg ha?1). Temporal CH4 flux fluctuated between 79.7 and 482.0 mg m?2 day?1 under CT; 46.0 and 315.0 mg m?2 day?1 in SRI and 86.7 and 467.3 mg m?2 day?1 in DT. Considerable temporal variations in the individual CH4 fluxes were observed. Flux of CH4 was generally higher in early stage of crop and peaked about 21 days after transplanting coinciding with tillering stage of crop. CH4 flux declined gradually from 75 days after transplanting and stabilized at the harvest stage of rice in all the three methods of transplanting. Global warming potential was highest in CT (807.4 kg CO2 ha?1) and lowest in SRI (498.25 kg CO2 ha?1). However, a reverse trend was observed with carbon efficiency ratio. The water savings to the extent of six irrigations was recorded in SRI over CT. A saving of 27.4 % irrigation water and 18.5 % total water was recorded in SRI over CT while the corresponding values of DT over CT were 14.5 and 9.8 %. Water productivity of SRI (3.56 kg/ha mm) was significantly higher as compared to DT (2.87 kg/ha mm) and CT (2.61 kg/ha mm).  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted during rainy seasons of 2009 and 2010 at New Delhi, India to study the influence of varieties and integrated nitrogen management (INM) on methane (CH4) emission and water productivity under flooded transplanted (FT) and aerobic rice (AR) cultivation. The treatments included two rice (‘PB 1’ and ‘PB 1121’) varieties and eight INM practices including N control, recommended dose of N through urea, different combinations of urea with farmyard manure (FYM), green manure (GM), biofertilizer (BF) and vermicompost (VC). The results showed 91.6–92.5 % lower cumulative CH4 emission in AR compared to FT rice. In aerobic conditions, highest cumulative CH4 emission (6.9–7.0 kg ha?1) was recorded with the application of 100 % N by organic sources (FYM+GM+BF+VC). Global warming potential (GWP) was significantly lower in aerobic rice (105.0–107.5 kg CO2 ha?1) compared to FT rice (1242.5–1447.5 kg CO2 ha?1). Significantly higher amount of water was used in FT rice than aerobic rice by both the rice varieties, and a water saving between 59.5 and 63 % were recorded. Under aerobic conditions, both rice varieties had a water productivity of 8.50–14.69 kg ha?1, whereas in FT rice, it was 3.81–6.00 kg ha?1. In FT rice, a quantity of 1529.2–1725.2 mm water and in aerobic rice 929.2–1225.2 mm water was used to produce one kg rice. Thus, there was a saving of 28.4–39.6 % total water in both the rice varieties under AR cultivation.  相似文献

Methane oxidation activity (MOA), methanotrophic bacteria (MOB), and CH4 emission in a paddy field fertilized with anaerobically digested slurry were compared between two varieties: a fodder rice variety Leaf star (LS) and a normal rice variety Kinuhikari (KN). Average MOA and MOB per unit dry root were significantly higher in KN (7.1?μmol?g?1 CH4?g?1 dry root h?1 and 3.7?×?107 MPN?g?1 dry root, respectively) than in LS (4.3?μmol?g?1 CH4?g?1 dry root h?1, 2.1?×?107 MPN?g?1 dry root), although MOA in the rice root per whole plant was not significantly different since root biomass of LS (1.5?g dry root plant?1) was significantly higher than that of KN (1.2?g dry root plant?1). MOA in the soil ranged from 0.031 to 0.087?μmol?g?1 CH4?g?1 dry soil h?1, but there were no significant differences in both depths (0–5 and 5–15?cm) between the two rice varieties. MOA in the rhizosphere soil was significantly different between the rice varieties at flowering, but not at tillering. Methane emission in the field was lower and MOA and MOB in the rice root were higher in LS than in KN at tillering, but the reverse results were found at flowering and maturity stages. Total CH4 emission during a growing period was not significantly different between LS (27.4?±?16.9?g CH4?m?2) and KN (24.0?±?19.5?g CH4?m?2). There was a significant negative relationship between CH4 emission and rice root MOB (P?<?0.01) or MOA (P?<?0.05) and significant positive relationship was observed between root MOA and MOB (P?<?0.01). This study revealed that choice of rice variety might be an important environmental issue in paddy cultivation since it can influence MOA and MOB in rice root and rhizosphere soil which relate with CH4 emission.  相似文献

Conventional puddled transplanted rice (TPR) is a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG), particularly methane, causing global warming. Direct-seeded rice (DSR) is a feasible alternative to mitigate methane emission, besides saving water and labor. A 2-year field experiment was carried out to quantify GHG mitigation and water- and labor-saving potentials of the DSR crop compared to TPR in three villages in Jalandhar district of Punjab, India. The InfoRCT simulation model was used to calculate the emission of CO2 besides CH4 and N2O in different districts of Punjab, India. Total global warming potential (GWP) in transplanted rice in various districts of Punjab ranged from 2.0 to 4.6 t CO2 eq. ha?1 and in the DSR it ranged from 1.3 to 2.9 t CO2 eq. ha?1. Extrapolation analysis showed that if the entire area under TPR in the state is converted to DSR, the GWP will be reduced by 33 %, and if 50 % area is converted to DSR the GWP will be reduced by 16.6 % of the current emission. The DSR crop saved 3–4 irrigations compared to the transplanted rice without any yield penalty. Human labor use also reduced to 45 % and tractor use to 58 % in the DSR compared to TPR.  相似文献

With the aim of assessing differentiation of greenhouse gas emissions as manipulated by plastic film mulching (PFM) from paddy field from a year-round perspective, we determined net ecosystem CO2 exchange (NEE, CO2 flux), CH4 and N2O fluxes from a rice–rapeseed rotation field. PFM and non-mulching (NM) treatments were set from 2014 to 2017 (May 2014 to April 2015, May 2015 to April 2016 and May 2016 to April 2017 were set as Annual 1, Annual 2 and Annual 3, respectively) in Southwest China. Compared with NM, CH4 emissions were increased by 60.00% (P?<?0.05), 111.54% (P?<?0.05) and 62.07% (P?<?0.05) under PFM in Annual 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Additionally, PFM delayed the peaks of CH4 fluxes by 5–10 days during rice season. However, PFM did not affect N2O emissions on the annual basis. PFM reduced the net carbon loss from soil during rice season while had insignificant influence on soil carbon sequestration capacity during fallow and rapeseed seasons. Overall, the mean annual net ecosystem greenhouse gas exchange among three annuals was 32.11% lower under PFM than under NM. Moreover, PFM slightly increased crop yields of both rice and rapeseed. Accordingly, PFM recommended the suitable agricultural management in the rice–rapeseed rotation field for simultaneously alleviating global warming and maintaining crop yields.

High-selectivity inner-pressure hollow fiber composite (HFC) membrane for CO2/CH4 separation was prepared through the Two-way coating (TWC) technique. The blends of poly(vinylamine) (PVAm)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were coated onto porous hollow fiber polysulfone (PSF) ultrafiltration (UF) membrane with an effective membrane area of 0.4 m2. The effects of fabrication parameters on the permselectivity of the resultant HFC membrane were investigated and the optimum preparation conditions were obtained as follows: coating time for 30 min and air blowing time for 30 min after the coating. The prepared HFC membrane showed the typical characteristic of fixed carrier membrane with a high selectivity of CO2 and CH4: the separation factor of CO2/CH4 (40 vol% CO2 at 25 °C and 0.2 MPa) was 36.6 and the CO2 permeability was 56.3 GPU. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images indicated that the HFC membrane prepared by TWC technique had a uniform coating layer along the whole hollow fiber. Membrane permselectivity showed almost no difference between different membrane sections. The HFC membrane showed a good stability during the continuous testing process of 540 h. And the HFC membrane preserved at 30 °C and 40 % humidity exhibited a good durability with a basically unchanged separation factor after 30 days.  相似文献

Weeds caused serious problem on yield reduction of basmati rice worldwide. Losses caused by weeds varied from one country to another, depending on the presence of dominant weeds and the control methods practiced by farmers; therefore, suitable plant population and weed management practices should be adopted. Keeping these in mind, a field experiment was carried out during kharif seasons of 2009 and 2010 at crop Research Centre of SVPUA&T, Meerut, India comprising 4 planting geometries, viz. 20, 30, 40, and 50 hills m?2 as main plot factor, and 5 weed management practices (Butachlor @ 1.0 kg ha?1, Butachlor @ 1.0 kg ha?1 fb (followed by) one hand weeding, Butachlor @ 1.0 kg ha?1 fb Almix @ 4 g ha?1, two hand weedings and weedy check) in a split plot design with 3 replications. Experimental results revealed that plant population of 50 hills m?2 proved superior over that of 20 hills m?2 in respect of weed density, weed dry weight, number of tillers m?2, yield attributes, grain, straw, and biological yields. The maximum grain yield (29.00 and 31.00 q ha?1) and straw yield (51.30 and 52.50 q ha?1) were recorded in 50 hills m?2 followed by 40 hills m?2 during 2009 and 2010, respectively. In respect of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium removal, a reverse trend was observed: the highest in 20 hills m?2 followed by 30, 40, and 50 hills m?2. As far as the weed management practices are concerned, both chemical and mechanical methods of weed control were found superior over weedy check. The lowest weed density, dry weight, and highest weed control efficiency, maximum length of panicle?1, number of panicle (m2), and 1000-grain weight and grain yield of 30.40 and 32.60 q ha?1 were recorded with two hand weedings which was at par with Butachlor @ 1.0 kg ha?1 fb one hand weeding over rest of the weed management practices.  相似文献

Soil-emitted nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitric oxide (NO) in crop production are harmful nitrogen (N) emissions that may contribute both directly and indirectly to global warming. Application of nitrification inhibitors, such as dicyandiamide (DCD), and urea deep placement (UDP), are considered effective approaches to reduce these emissions. This study investigated the effects of DCD and UDP, compared to urea and potassium nitrate, on emissions, nitrogen use efficiency and grain yields under direct-seeded rice. High-frequency measurements of N2O and NO emissions were conducted using the automated closed chamber method throughout the crop-growing season and during the ratoon crop. Both UDP and DCD were effective in reducing N2O emissions by 95% and 73%, respectively. The highest emission factor (1.53% of applied N) was observed in urea, while the lowest was in UDP (0.08%). Emission peaks were mainly associated with fertilization events and appeared within one to two weeks of fertilization. Those emission peaks contributed to 65%–98% of the total seasonal emissions. Residual effects of fertilizer treatments on the N2O emissions from the ratoon crop were not significant; however, the urea treatment contributed 2%, whereas UDP contributed to 44% of the total annual emissions. On the other hand, cumulative NO emissions were not significant in either the rice or ratoon crops. UDP and DCD increased grain yields by 16%–19% and N recovery efficiency by 30%–40% over urea. The results suggested that the use of DCD and UDP could mitigate N2O emissions and increase grain yields and nitrogen use efficiency under direct-seeded rice condition.  相似文献

The area grown with processing potato crops in the Argentinian Pampas has been increasing steadily since 1995. The aim of this work was to assess the effects of N, P and S upon yield and tuber quality and their impact on CO2 emissions assessed with the Cool Farm Tool-Potato. During the spring-summer growing seasons 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, ten fertilization experiments to individually assess N, P and S effects were carried out in the southeast region of the Argentinian Pampas. Nitrogen (four N rates), phosphorus (four P rates) and sulfur (three S rates) were applied at planting and tuber initiation; at combined rates of 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg N ha?1, and at rates of 0, 25, 50 and 100 kg P ha?1 and 0, 10 and 20 kg S ha?1. N and P had a positive effect on total tuber yield, but tuber dry matter concentration (DMC) decreased at higher N rates. The fraction of marketable tubers suitable for processing into French fries increased with the addition of N, showed no variations with P fertilization, and decreased when S was applied. French fry colour, length/width (L:W) ratio and tuber defects were not affected by N, P and S fertilization. With regard to CO2 emissions assessed with the Cool Farm Tool-Potato, results showed that the higher the N rates the higher the CO2 emissions, but they decreased at higher yields. P and S rates did not have an impact on the CO2 emissions, which also decreased at higher yields. Under the production system of the Pampas, N should be split between planting and tuber initiation, and intermediate P rates should be applied all at planting, in order to improve crop yield and quality and to reduce CO2 emissions.  相似文献

Effect of biochar on CH4 and N2O emission from soils vegetated with paddy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Biochar is believed to have positive impact on soil properties and plant yield. Due to the presence of C, it can also enhance CH4 emission in paddy soils. On the other hand, ammonium sulphate can decrease CH4 emission due to negative impacts on methanogenesis. Keeping these points in view, a pot experiment was conducted to determine the effect of biochar along with ammonium sulphate on CH4 and N2O emission from paddy soil. Analysis revealed that biochar treated soils released more CH4 compared to untreated. Ammonium sulphate treated soil emitted the highest N2O whereas biochar addition decreased its emission significantly. Further, total emission was found to be higher for CH4 (16.9–34.7 g/m2) in comparison to N2O (?0.05 to 0.02 g/m2) for all treatments. Biochar application has positive impact on plant variables such as panicle number and weight of panicles. This study suggests that biochar application significantly decrease N2O emission and increase CH4 emission possibly due to affecting the availability of organic C in the soil to microbial activity for methanogenesis. Another possibility for enhancing CH4 emission by following biochar could be attributed to the increase in plant biomass.  相似文献

Wetland is important as a source of nitrous oxide (N2O), which depends on groundwater and anaerobic conditions involved for denitrification in the aquifer. In order to study the behavior of N2O in wetland, a typical headwater wetland has been chosen in Ichikawa, Chiba prefecture, Japan. It was found that N2O fluxes were high at the sides of valley where groundwater flowed in with high concentration of nitrate, and less than 0.045 mg N m–2 h–1 in the wetland where groundwater was almost free of nitrite. Also, the concentration of dissolved N2O in groundwater ranged from 0.78 to 80.5 μg N L–1 in the study area. Based on the spatial distributions of nitrate, dissolved N2O, hydraulic head, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and oxidation–reduction potential, etc., it is reasonable to consider that denitrification mainly occurred in the wetland aquifer through which groundwater flowed. Because the concentration of dissolved N2O was much higher than ambient air, its emission from the water table became the main source of N2O flux in the study area. The temporal and spatial changes of N2O flux were strongly affected by the concentration of dissolved N2O, precipitation and temperature. Finally, the budget of nitrogen in the groundwater was estimated based on the variations of nitrate, the dissolved N2O and the calculated nitrogen gas along the flow path of groundwater where denitrification was available.  相似文献
