Landuse can alter soil organic carbon (SOC) fractions by affecting carbon inflows and outflows. This study evaluated changes in SOC fractions in response to different landuses under variable rainfalls. We compared cropland, grassland and forest soils in high rainfall (Islamabad ~1142 mm) and low rainfall (Chakwal ~667 mm) areas of Pothwar dryland, Pakistan. Forest soils in both rainfall areas had highest SOC (11.32 g kg?1), particulate organic carbon (POC, 1.70 g kg?1), mineral-associated organic carbon (MOC, 7.17 g kg?1) and aggregate-associated organic carbon (AOC, 7.86 g kg?1). However, in rangeland and cropland soils, these varied with rainfall. Under high rainfall, SOC and MOC were 12% and 17% higher in rangeland than in cropland while POC and AOC were equal. Under low rainfall, SOC and MOC were higher in rangeland than in cropland by 7.21 and 1.79 g kg?1 at 0–15 cm and equal at 15–30 cm depth. POC and AOC were higher in rangeland than in cropland, in both depths. Averagely, SOC, POC, MOC and AOC were 26%, 68%, 76% and 30% higher in high rainfall than in low rainfall soils. Sensitivity of SOC fractions to landuses observed under different rainfalls could provide useful information for soil management in subtropical drylands.  相似文献

This study compared the relative effectiveness of two products recently introduced as nitrification inhibitors with other materials used to inhibit nitrification. Four soils were treated with 0, 0.2, 1, 5, and 25 mg kg?1 of nitrapyrin (NP), a new microencapsulated nitrapyrin product (ENP), dicyandiamide (DCD), a new maleic-itaconic polymer product (MIP), and ammonium thiosulfate (ATS). The soils were also treated with 200 mg N kg?1 as urea, and percent inhibition of nitrification determined after 2 or 4 weeks of incubation. After 4 weeks, similar levels of nitrification inhibition were provided by 1 mg kg?1 of NP (72%), 5 mg kg?1 of ENP (79%), and 25 mg kg?1 of DCD (73%), averaged across soil. After 4 weeks with a sandy soil, the highest rate of MIP and ATS provided 15 and 36% inhibition, respectively. MIP and ATS were ineffective at inhibiting nitrification when added to the other three soils.

Abstract

Influence of long‐term sodic‐water (SW) irrigation with or without gypsum and organic amendments [green manure (GM), farmyard manure (FYM), and rice straw (RS)] on soil properties and nitrogen (N) mineralization kinetics was studied after 12 years of rice–wheat cropping in a sandy loam soil in northwest India. Long‐term SW irrigation increased soil pH, exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) and decreased organic carbon (OC) and total N content. On the other hand, application of gypsum and organic amendments resulted in significant improvement in all these soil properties. Mineralization of soil N ranged from 54 to 111 mg N kg?1 soil in different treatments. Irrigation with SW depressed N mineralization. In SW‐irrigated plots, two flushes of N mineralization were observed; the first during 0 to 7 d and the second after 28 d. Amending SW irrigated plots with GM and FYM enhanced mineralization of soil N. Gypsum application along with SW irrigation reduced cumulative N mineralization at 56 days in RS‐amended plots but increased it under GM‐treated, FYM‐treated, or unamended plots. Nitrogen mineralization potential (No) ranged from 62 to 543 mg N kg?1 soil. In the first‐order zero‐order model (FOZO), the easily decomposable fraction ranged from 5.4 to 42 mg N kg?1 soil. Compared to the first‐order single compartment model, the FOZO model could better explain the variations in N mineralization in different treatments. Variations in No were influenced more by changes in pH, SAR, and ESP induced by long‐term SW irrigations and amendments rather than by soil OC.  相似文献

The establishment of a complementary grass cover on vineyard soils can promote sustainability of the affected environment. In this work, we used an acid vineyard soil with total Cu concentration 188 mg kg?1 to study the influence of pine bark amendment on Lolium perenne growth and Cu uptake. The results indicate that the pine bark amendment did not cause a significant increase in the mass of the shoots of Lolium perenne, but favored the root biomass: 0.034 g for control and 0.061 g for soil samples amended with 48 g kg?1 of pine bark. Moreover, the pine bark amendment decreased Cu concentration in both, shoots (50 mg kg?1 for control soil and 29 mg kg?1 for soil amended with 48 g kg?1 pine bark) and roots (250 mg kg?1 for control soil and 64 mg kg?1 for soil amended with 48 g kg?1 pine bark). The main factor responsible for these results was a significant decrease of the most mobile fractions of Cu in the soil. Those fractions were extracted using ammonium acetate, ammonium chloride, sodium salt of ethylene-diamine-tetraacetic acid (EDTA-Na), and diethylene-triamine-pentaacetic acid (DTPA).  相似文献

The influence of differing soil management practices on changes seen in soil organic carbon (SOC) content of loamy Haplic Luvisol was evaluated. The field experiment included two types of soil tillage: 1. conventional tillage (CT) and 2. reduced tillage (RT) and two treatments of fertilization: 1. crop residues with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilizers (PR+NPK) and 2. NPK fertilizers (NPK). The results of SOC fluctuated from 9.8 to 14.5 g kg?1 and the tillage systems employed and fertilization status did not have a statistically significant influence on SOC. The SOC content was higher in RT (12.4 ± 0.86 g kg?1) than in CT (12.2 ± 0.90 g kg?1). On average, there was a smaller higher value of SOC in PR+NPK (12.4 ± 1.02 g kg?1) than in NPK (12.3 ± 0.88 g kg?1). During a period of 18 years, reduced tillage and application of NPK fertilizers together with crop residues build up a SOC at an average speed of 7 and 16 mg kg?1 year?1, respectively, however conventional tillage and NPK fertilizer applications caused a SOC decline at an average speed of 104 and 40 mg kg?1 year?1, respectively.  相似文献

Saline‐sodic water is a by‐product of coalbed natural gas (CBNG) production in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, USA and is being beneficially used in places as irrigation water. This study evaluated effects of 2 years of natural precipitation on soil properties of a hay field after the cessation of managed irrigation with CBNG water. The hay field had been irrigated with only CBNG water [CBNG(NT)], CBNG water amended with gypsum [CBNG(G)] or gypsum plus sulfur via a sulfur burner [CBNG(GSB)] in combination with soil amendments—gypsum ( +G ), elemental sulfur ( +S ), and both ( +GS ). Results indicated that infiltration rates were the lowest on fields irrigated with CBNG(NT), followed by CBNG(G) and CBNG(NT) +G treatments (12·2, 13·2, and 13·5 cm h−1, respectively). The CBNG(GSB) +GS treatment had the highest infiltration rates (33·5 cm h−1). By the second year, salinity and sodicity of treated soils had decreased in the A‐horizon of most CBNG‐water irrigated plots, whereas in Bt1‐ and Bt2‐horizons salinity generally decreased but sodicity increased; S and GS soil amended plots had higher profile salinities compared with NT and G soil treatments. Although Na+ leaching was observed in all fields that received soil and/or water amendments, CBNG(GSB) +GS plots had the lowest sodicity in the A‐ and Bt1‐horizons. Effective managed irrigation requires knowledge of site‐specific soil properties, plant suitability, water chemistry, and amendments that would be needed to treat the CBNG waters and soils. This study indicates the greatest success was realized when using both soil and water amendments. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A field experiment conducted on rapeseed (Brassica juncea L.) during 2005–2006 in a typical lateritic soil (Alfisol) of West Bengal, India revealed that sources of sulfur viz. gypsum and magnesium sulfate and levels of sulfur (0, 20, 40, 60 kg S ha?1) have significant influence on grain yield, total biological yield, sulfur concentration in grain and stover, total sulfur uptake, oil content and oil yield and chlorophyll content. The maximum grain yield (18.28 q ha?1) and oil yield (8.59 q ha?1) was obtained with magnesium sulfate followed by gypsum yielded the grain yield of 17.99 q ha?1 and oil yield of 8.22 q ha?1 at 40 kg S ha?1. Overall, the best performance was recorded when sulfur was applied at 40 kg S ha?1 either as magnesium sulfate or gypsum. Results revealed that magnesium sulfate may be considered as the better source of sulfur than gypsum to raise the mustard crop in sulfur deficient acidic red and lateritic soils of West Bengal and if farmers apply either magnesium sulfate or gypsum to soils, the possible deficiency of sulfur and magnesium/calcium in soils and plants can be avoided.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Sandy soils are usually dominant in tropical monsoon regions, due to the high weathering potential associated with high temperatures and precipitation. The organic matter content of sandy soils is low due to low clay content and high microbial activity. Therefore, soil management practices that alter the soil organic carbon (SOC) content may be important for the sustainable management of crop yields. Thus, the present study investigates the distribution of rice yield and SOC content under different land management practices and analyzes the relationship between rice yield and SOC with pertinent management practices (manure and fertilizer applications). The soil horizons from 0- to 40-cm depths were collected in each layer to measure SOC and soil properties at 64 sites. At each sampling site, farmers were given questionnaires and the record book for the standards for good agricultural practices of farm owners were gathered to assimilate information on rice yield and their practices during 2010–2014. The mean rice yield of the whole crop year and SOC were 2.93 Mg ha?1 and 47.09 Mg C ha?1, respectively, in the irrigated areas, and were 2.38 Mg ha?1 and 32.08 Mg C ha?1 in the rain-fed areas. Significantly higher values were obtained in the irrigated areas (p < 0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between rice yield and SOC in both the irrigated areas (R2 = 0.72, p < 0.01) and the rain-fed areas (R2 = 0.85, p < 0.01); however, the slopes of these regression equations were significantly different. In both irrigated and rain-fed areas, manure should be applied every year, with an optimal application rate of N, P, and K fertilizers being selected. The combination of manure, fertilizer, and increasing irrigation facilities the maintenance of SOC levels and substantially increases rice yields.  相似文献

Among factors controlling decomposition and retention of residue C in soil, effect of initial soil organic C (SOC) concentration remains unclear. We evaluated, under controlled conditions, short-term retention of corn residue C and total soil CO2 production in C-rich topsoil and C-poor subsoil samples of heavy clay. Topsoil (0–20 cm deep, 31.3 g SOC kg?1 soil) and subsoil (30–70 cm deep, 4.5 g SOC kg?1 soil) were mixed separately with 13C–15N-labeled corn (Zea mays L.) residue at rates of 0 to 40 g residue C kg?1 soil and incubated for 51 days. We measured soil CO2–C production and the retention of residue C in the whole soil and the fine particle-size fraction (<50 μm). Cumulative C mineralization was always greater in topsoil than subsoil. Whole-soil residue C retention was similar in topsoil and subsoil at rates up to 20 g residue C kg?1. There was more residue C retained in the fine fraction of topsoil than subsoil at low residue input levels (2.5 and 5 g residue C kg?1), but the trend was reversed with high residue inputs (20 and 40 g residue C kg?1). Initial SOC concentration affected residue C retention in the fine fraction but not in the whole soil. At low residue input levels, greater microbial activity in topsoil resulted in greater residue fragmentation and more residue C retained in the fine fraction, compared to the subsoil. At high residue input levels, less residue C accumulated in the fine fraction of topsoil than subsoil likely due to greater C saturation in the topsoil. We conclude that SOC-poor soils receiving high C inputs have greater potential to accumulate C in stable forms than SOC-rich soils.  相似文献

Abstract

Besides supplying calcium (Ca) and sulfur (S) to plants, gypsum has recently been used in agriculture to ameliorate some soil physical and chemical properties, especially to alleviate aluminum phytotoxicity in subsoils. When applied in large quantities, however, gypsum may leach significant amounts of nutrients from the plow layer. This study was conducted to assess the effect of gypsum addition to the soil on the magnitude of cation leaching as well as the relationship of leaching with some soil properties in a group of seven Brazilian soils. Rates of gypsum equivalents to 0, 5.0, 10, and 20 t ha?1 (0, 2.5, 5.0, and 10 g kg?1) were mixed with triplicate soil samples consisting of 3.0 kg of dry base soil. After 60 days of incubation at room temperature (15–25°C), the experimental units were packed into polyvinyl chloride leaching columns (32‐cm‐high×10 -cm-diameter) at a density of 0.9 g cm?3. Thereafter, they were percolated once a week with a volume of distilled water equivalent to 1.5 times the total soil porosity over 11 weeks. Soil samples were collected before the first and after the last percolation, for chemical analysis. Averaged across soils, 11 percolation events leached about 26% of each Ca, magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K) from the treatment without gypsum. Averaged across soils and rates, addition of gypsum leached 41–94% of added Ca, 13–90% of exchangeable Mg, and 13–58% of exchangeable K, and the highest losses occurred on the sandiest soils. The relationship between soil parameters and Ca leaching varied with gypsum rate: in the treatments that received gypsum, leaching was negatively related to cation exchange capacity (CEC), clay, and organic matter, and positively correlated with sand; in the treatment with no gypsum, leaching correlated with the same parameters above, nevertheless, all coefficients presented opposite signs. Leaching of K caused by gypsum was negatively associated with clay and positively with sand, whereas leaching of Mg was poorly correlated with any soil parameter. Gypsum is a good source to promote high and fast downward movement of Ca in the soil profile, but rates must be cautiously chosen because of excessive leaching of Mg especially on soils with low CEC.  相似文献

Abstract

Soil organic carbon (SOC) and nutrient stocks in the soil profile (0–80 cm) in four dominant land uses [forest, upland maize and millet (Bari), irrigated rice (Khet), and grazed systems)] and 0–15 cm depth along elevation gradient 1000 to 3000 m, and aspects in the Mardi watershed were measured. Soil properties at 0–15 cm depth were also measured in undisturbed forest, forest with free grazed system, managed forest, and grassland to compare the soil quality index (SQI) of topsoils. The SOC and nutrient concentration decreased with increasing profile depth. The SOC and N contents in the 0–15 cm depth of forest soils were significantly greater than the corresponding depth in upland maize and millet, irrigated rice, and grazed systems. On the other hand, available P and K concentrations at the same depth were significantly greater in upland maize and millet compared to irrigated rice, grazed system, and forest land uses. The SOC and N stocks (0–15 cm) increased from agricultural land at the valley bottom at about 1000 m above mean sea level (a.s.l.) (24 and 3 Mg ha?1) compared to undisturbed forest (74 and 5.9 Mg ha?1) at 2600 m a.s.l, demonstrating the effects of cover and elevation. Both SOC and N stocks decreased sharply in grassland (54 and 4.5 Mg ha?1) at elevations of 2600 to 2800 m a.s.l. compared with undisturbed forest. Above 2800 m a.s.l. the cover type changed from grass to coniferous forest, and the SOC and N stocks steadily increased at the summit level (3200 m a.s.l.) to 65 and 6.9 Mg ha?1, respectively. Slope and aspect significantly affected SOC with the northwest aspect having significantly higher concentrations (46 g kg?1) than other aspects. Similarly, SOC concentration at the lowest slope position (39 g kg?1) was significantly higher than the middle or upper positions (25 and 13 g kg?1). Integrated soil quality index (SQI) values varied from 0.17 to 0.69 for different land uses, being highest for undisturbed forest and lowest for irrigated rice. The SQI demonstrated the degradation status of land uses in the following ascending order: irrigated rice?>?grazed system?>?forest with free grazing?>?upland maize and millet?>?managed forest?>?grass land?>?undisturbed forest. The irrigated rice, grazed system, upland maize and millet, and freely grazed forestlands need immediate attention to minimize further deterioration of soil quality in these land uses.  相似文献

Amending vegetable soils with organic materials is increasingly recommended as an agroecosystems management option to improve soil quality. However, the amounts of NO, N2O, and N2 emissions from vegetable soils treated with organic materials and frequent irrigation are not known. In laboratory-based experiments, soil from a NO 3 ? -rich (340 mg N?kg?1) vegetable field was incubated at 30°C for 30 days, with and without 10 % C2H2, at 50, 70, or 90 % water-holding capacity (WHC) and was amended at 1.19 g?C kg?1 (equivalent to 2.5 t?C ha?1) as Chinese milk vetch (CMV), ryegrass (RG), or wheat straw (WS); a soil not amended with organic material was used as a control (CK). At 50 % WHC, cumulative N2 production (398–524 μg N?kg?1) was significantly higher than N2O (84.6–190 μg N?kg?1) and NO (196–224 μg N?kg?1) production, suggesting the occurrence of denitrification under unsaturated conditions. Organic materials and soil water content significantly influenced NO emissions, but the effect was relatively weak since the cumulative NO production ranged from 124 to 261 μg N?kg?1. At 50–90 % WHC, the added organic materials did not affect the accumulated NO 3 ? in vegetable soil but enhanced N2O emissions, and the effect was greater by increasing soil water content. At 90 % WHC, N2O production reached 13,645–45,224 μg N?kg?1 from soil and could be ranked as RG?>?CMV?>?WS?>?CK. These results suggest the importance of preventing excess water in soil while simultaneously taking into account the quality of organic materials applied to vegetable soils.  相似文献

Purpose

The increasing reuse of wastewater for irrigation introduces surfactants and antibiotics into the environment. How these two kinds of compounds interact with regard to their sorption processes in soil is not clear.

Materials and methods

We performed batch experiments to investigate the sorption of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) and its effect on sorption of sulfamethoxazole and ciprofloxacin in irrigated and non-irrigated soils with different organic matter (OM) contents.

Results and discussion

LAS sorption was non-linear in the presence of the antibiotics, and as general trend, it increased with rising OM content of soils. Free LAS was also removed from solution by complexation with Ca2+. Dissolved organic compounds released from soils with OM contents ≥18.4 g kg?1 further reduced LAS sorption. Sorption of sulfamethoxazole was reduced by LAS sorption only in one soil with a small OM content of 9.5 g kg?1.

Conclusions

The strong sorption of ciprofloxacin is not affected by LAS. Sulfamethoxazole sorption only competes with LAS sorption in organic matter-poor soils. Accumulation of organic matter in soils, for example due to long-term wastewater irrigation, provides extra sorption capacity for LAS and sulfamethoxazole so that competition for sorption sites is reduced.

Low selenium (Se) dietary intake has encouraged the development of fortification strategies such as SeO42- application to arable land. Selenate is highly mobile in soil systems, but it is not known whether fast abiotic retention could reduce Se loss from topsoil after SeO42- fertilisation. This work explicitly aims at fast abiotic SeO42- sorption in three soils exposed to 20–1250 µg L?1 Se in a 24-h batch experiment. This study demonstrated the susceptibility of Se sorption data to distortion when inductively coupled plasma quadrupole mass spectrometry (ICP-QMS) measurements suffered from non-spectral interferences induced by concomitant elements in an aqueous soil-derived matrix. The distribution coefficient (Kd), not exceeding 2 L kg?1 at any Se level, was shown to be a useful indicator for the extent of ion competition for sorption sites depending on the SeO42- concentration employed. Sorption experiments conducted in the presence or absence of nitrate (10 mM), sulphate (0.52 mM) and phosphate (0.21 mM) allowed three phenomena explaining different SeO42- retention behaviours found even between similar Cambisols to be proposed. Finally, we showed that the co-application of sulphate or phosphate with SeO42- might decrease Se sorption from 150–170 µg kg?1 to a net release from native Se pool.

Maintaining soil organic carbon (SOC) in arid ecosystem is important for soil productivity and restoration of deserted sandy soil in western plain of India. There is a need to understand how the cropping systems changes may alter SOC pools including total organic carbon (TOC), particulate organic C (POC), water soluble carbon (WSC), very labile C (VLC), labile C (LC), less labile C (LLC) and non-labile C (NLC) in arid climate. We selected seven major agricultural systems for this study viz., barren, fallow, barley–fallow, mustard–moth bean, chickpea–groundnut, wheat–green gram and wheat–pearl millet. Result revealed that conversion of sandy barren lands to agricultural systems significantly increased available nutrients and SOC pools. Among all studied cropping systems, the highest values of TOC (6.12 g kg?1), POC (1.53 g kg?1) and WSC (0.19 g kg?1) were maintained in pearl millet–wheat system, while the lowest values of carbon pools observed in fallow and barren land. Strong relationships (P < 0.05) were exhibited between VLC and LC with available nutrients. The highest carbon management index (299) indicates that wheat–pearl millet system has greater soil quality for enhancing crop productivity, nutrient availability and carbon sequestration of arid soil.  相似文献

Abstract

To optimize the efficient use of nutrients in pig slurry by crops and to reduce the pollution risks to surface and groundwater, a full knowledge of the fate of nitrogen (N) in amended soils is needed. A 120 day laboratory incubation experiment was conducted to study the effects of pig slurry application on soil N transformations. Pig slurry was added at the rates of 50 and 100 g kg?1. A nonamended soil was used as a control treatment. Soil samples were taken after 0, 7, 14, 30, 45, 60, and 120 days of incubation and analyzed for NH4 +‐N and NO3 ?‐N. Initially, the application of pig slurry produced significant increases in NH4 +‐N, especially at the highest application rate, whereas NO3 ?‐N content was not affected. Nitrification processes were active during the entire incubation time in the three treatments. In the control soil, the net N mineralization rate was highest during the 1st week (5.7 mg kg?1 d?1), followed by a low‐steady phase. Initially, net N mineralization rate was slower in soil with the lowest slurry rate (2.7 mg kg?1 d?1), whereas in the treatment with the highest slurry rate, a net N immobilization was observed during the 1st week (4.8 mg kg?1 d?1). Mineral‐N concentrations after 120 days were 180, 310, and 475 mg kg?1 in soils amended with 0, 50, and 100 g kg?1 of pig slurry, respectively. However, when results were expressed as net mineralized N, the opposite trend was observed: 74, 65, and 44 mg kg?1. Of the six kinetic models tested to describe the mineralization process, a two‐component, first exponential model (double model) offered the best results for all treatments.  相似文献

Wetland soils (WS) can store a significant amount of soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN). Surface soils (0–20 cm) were sampled in WS, 20-yr-old conventionally tilled soils (CTS20), 2-yr-old abandoned tilled soils (ATS2), and 6-yr-old abandoned tilled soils (ATS6) to estimate changes in SOC and TN contents due to cultivation and abandonment. Our results showed that SOC and TN contents were significantly higher in WS than those in CTS20, ATS2, and ATS6. As a result of 20-yr cultivation, SOC and TN contents decreased from 43.75 to 24.06 g kg?1 and from 4.96 to 2.32 g kg?1, respectively. However, after the abandonment of cultivated wetlands, SOC and TN contents showed a slow increase but the change was not significant among CTS20 and ATS2. The findings of this study suggest that SOC and TN contents in top 20 cm soils of wetlands can be reduced significantly by cultivation, but they are restored slowly after abandonment.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this research was to assess the long‐term effects of broiler litter applications on soil phosphorus (P), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), and arsenic (As) concentrations in Chesapeake Bay watershed Coastal Plain soils. Litter and soil samples were collected from 10 farms with more than 40 years of broiler production and from wooded sites adjacent to fields and were analyzed for P and metal contents. Averaged over farms, total P and metal concentrations in the litter were 12.8 g kg?1 P and 332, 350, 334, and 2.93 mg kg?1 Cu, Zn, Mn, and As, respectively. Surface (0–15 cm) soil pH values were greater than (5.7–6.4) the 0‐ to 15‐cm depth at wooded sites (3.5–4.3). Surface soil Bray 1 P values (149–796 mg kg?1) in amended fields were greater than wooded sites (4.4–17 mg kg?1). The 1N nitric acid (HNO3)–extractable metal concentrations were higher in amended soils than in wooded areas and were 7.7–32, 5.7–26, 12.3–71, and 0.6–3.0 mg kg?1 for Cu, Zn, Mn, and As, respectively, compared to 0.76–14, 4.6–22, 1.6–70, and 0.14–0.59 mg kg?1 for the same metals, respectively, in wooded areas. Results from this study demonstrated that long‐term broiler litter applications have altered the chemical properties of the Coastal Plain soils of the Maryland Eastern Shore. Metal concentrations were low in the surface layer of amended fields and typically decreased with depth. Phosphorus additions rather than metals are most likely to contribute to the degradation of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.  相似文献

The effect of medium-term (5 years) application of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients (as mineral or inorganic fertilizers) on soil organic carbon (SOC), SOC stock, carbon (C) build-up rate, microbial and enzyme activities in flooded rice soils was tested in west coast of India. Compared to the application of vermicompost, glyricidia (Glyricidia maculate) (fresh) and eupatorium (Chromolaena adenophorum) (fresh) and dhaincha (Sesbania rostrata) (fresh), the application of farmyard manure (FYM) and combined application of paddy straw (dry) and water hyacinth (PsWh) (fresh) improved the SOC content significantly (p < 0.05). The lowest (p < 0.05) SOC content (0.81%) was observed in untreated control. The highest (p < 0.05) SOC stock (23.7 Mg C ha?1) was observed in FYM-treated plots followed by recommended dose of mineral fertilizer (RDF) (23.2 Mg C ha?1) and it was lowest (16.5 Mg C ha?1) in untreated control. Soil microbial biomass carbon (Cmb) (246 µg g?1 soil) and Cmb/SOC (1.92%) were highest (p < 0.05) in FYM-treated plot. The highest (p < 0.05) value of metabolic quotient (qCO2) was recorded under RDF (19.7 µg CO2-C g?1 Cmb h?1) and untreated control (19.6 µg CO2-C g?1 Cmb h?1). Application of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients impacted soil enzyme activities significantly (p < 0.05) with FYM causing highest dehydrogenase (20.5 µg TPF g?1 day?1), phosphatase (659 µg PNP g?1 h?1) and urease (0.29 µg urea g?1 h?1) activities. Application of organic source of nutrients especially FYM improved the microbial and enzyme activities in flooded and transplanted rice soils. Although the grain yield was higher with the application of RDF, but the use of FYM as an organic agricultural practice is more useful when efforts are intended to conserve more SOC and improved microbial activity.  相似文献

Abstract: The fraction distributions of heavy metals have attracted more attention because of the relationship between the toxicity and their speciation. Heavy‐metal fraction distributions in soil contaminated with mine tailings (soil A) and in soil irrigated with mine wastewater (soil B), before and after treatment with disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), were analyzed with Tessier's sequential extraction procedures. The total contents of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) exceeded the maximum permissible levels by 5.1, 33.3, 3.1, and 8.0 times in soil A and by 2.6, 12.0, 0.2, and 1.9 times in soil B, respectively. The results showed that both soils had high levels of heavy‐metal pollution. Although the fractions were found in different distribution before extraction, the residual fraction was found to be the predominant fraction of the four heavy metals. There was a small amount of exchangeable fraction of heavy metals in both contaminated soils. Furthermore, in this study, the extraction efficiencies of Pb, Cd, and Cu were higher than those of Zn. After extraction, the concentrations of exchangeable Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn increased 84.7 mg·kg?1, 0.3 mg·kg?1, 4.1 mg·kg?1, and 39.9 mg·kg?1 in soil A and 48.7 mg·kg?1, 0.6 mg·kg?1, 2.7 mg·kg?1, and 44.1 mg·kg?1 in soil B, respectively.
