Experiments were conducted to test the superiority of treatment combinations of nitrogen (N; 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 kg ha?1), phosphorus (0, 30, 60, 90 kg ha?1) and potassium (0, 30, 60 kg ha?1) for finger millet during 2005–2007. Application of 200-90-60 kg ha?1 gave maximum yield of 1666, 1426 and 1640 kg ha?1 in 3 years, respectively. The yield regression model through soil and fertilizer nutrients gave predictability of 0.98, 0.97 and 0.98, with sustainability yield index (SYI) of 50.4, 49.4 and 52.5 in 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. Optimum nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) doses for attaining yields of 800 and 1200 kg ha?1 were derived at soil nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium of 75–400, 10–70 and 150–750 kg ha?1. Fertilizer nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ranged from 30–128, 3–19, 13–25 kg ha?1 and 105–203, 4–32, 27–39 kg ha?1 for attaining 800 and 1200 kg ha?1 yield, respectively. The doses could be adopted for attaining sustainable yields under semiarid Alfisols.  相似文献

A 2-year field experiment was conducted to assess system productivity, nutrient use efficiency and apparent balances of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) in diversified rice-based cropping systems at Gazipur, Bangladesh. Four cropping systems: wheat–fallow–rice, maize–fallow–rice, potato–fallow–rice and mustard–fallow–rice in main plots and four nutrient combinations: NPK, NK, NP and PK in sub-plots were arranged in a split-plot design with three replications. Receiving the NPK treatment, all the component crops gave the highest yield, and omission of N from fertilizer package gave the lowest yield. The maize–rice system removed the highest amount of N (217 kg ha?1), P (41 kg ha?1) and K (227 kg ha?1) followed by wheat–rice, potato–rice and the least in mustard–rice system. The wheat–rice and maize–rice system showed negative K balance of –35.5 and –60.4 kg ha?1 in NPK treatment, while potato–rice system showed a positive K balance of 31.0 kg ha–1 with NPK treatment. The N, P and K uptake and apparent recovery by the test crops may be used for site-specific nutrient management. The K rates for fertilizer recommendation in wheat and maize in Indo-Gangetic plain need to be revised to take account for the negative K balance in soil.  相似文献

Data from a 49-year-long organic–mineral fertilization field experiment with a potato–maize–maize–wheat–wheat crop rotation were used to analyse the impact of different fertilizer variations on yield ability, soil organic carbon content (SOC), N and C balances, as well as on some characteristic energy balance parameters. Among the treatments, the fertilization variant with 87 kg ha?1 year?1 N proved to be economically optimal (94% of the maximum). Approximately 40 years after initiation of the experiment, supposed steady-state SOC content has been reached, with a value of 0.81% in the upper soil layer of the unfertilized control plot. Farmyard manure (FYM) treatments resulted in 10% higher SOC content compared with equivalent NPK fertilizer doses. The best C balances were obtained with exclusive mineral fertilization variants (?3.8 and ?3.7 t ha?1 year?1, respectively). N uptake in the unfertilized control plot suggested an airborne N input of 48 kg ha?1 year?1. The optimum fertilizer variant (70 t ha?1 FYM-equivalent NPK) proved favourable with a view to energy. The energy gain by exclusive FYM treatments was lower than with sole NPK fertilization. Best energy intensity values were obtained with lower mineral fertilization and FYM variants. The order of energy conversion according to the different crops was maize, wheat and potato.  相似文献

Abstract

To study the response of inorganic and organic nitrogen (N) sources both alone and in conjunction and their influence on soil quality, a field experiment was conducted during kharif and rabi seasons using sunflower (MSFH‐8) as test crop. The experimental site soil was Typic Haplustalf situated at Hayatnagar Research Farm of Central Research Institute of Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, India, at 17° 18′ N latitude, 78° 36′ E longitude. The experiment design was a simple randomized block design with 11 treatments replicated four times. Among all the treatments, vermicompost (VC)+Fert at 25+25 kg N ha?1 recorded the highest grain yields of 1878 and 2160 kg ha?1 during both kharif and rabi seasons, respectively, which were 43.9 and 85.1% higher than their respective control plots. Apparent N recovery varied from as little as 38.30% (FYM at 50 kg N ha?1) to 62.16 (25 kg N ha?1) during kharif and 49.65 (75 kg ha?1) to 83.28% (VC+Fert at 25+25 kg N ha?1) during rabi season. Conjunctive nutrient treatments proved quite superior to other set of treatments in improving the uptake of N, phosphorus (P), potassium (K), sulfur (S), and micronutrients in sunflower and their buildup in the soil. Highest relative soil quality indexes (RSQI) were observed under VC+Fert at 25+25 kg N ha?1 (1.00) followed by VC+Gly at 25+25 kg N ha?1 (0.87). Considering the yield and relative soil quality indices (RSQI), conjunctive applications of VC with either inorganic fertilizer, FYM, or Gly at 25+25 kg N ha?1 could be a successful and sustainable soil nutrient management practice in semi‐arid tropical Alfisols. Besides this, the fertilizer N demand could be reduced up to 50%.  相似文献

A long-term experiment was conducted at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture for 13 years to evaluate the effect of low tillage cum cheaper conjunctive nutrient management practices in terms of productivity, soil fertility, and nitrogen chemical pools of soil under sorghum–mung bean system in Alfisol soils. The results of the study clearly revealed that sorghum and mung bean grain yield as influenced by low tillage and conjunctive nutrient management practices varied from 764 to 1792 and 603 to 1008 kg ha?1 with an average yield of 1458 and 805 kg ha?1 over a period of 13 years, respectively. Of the tillage practices, conventional tillage (CT) maintained 11.0% higher yields (1534 kg ha?1) over the minimum tillage (MT) (1382 kg ha?1) practice. Among the conjunctive nutrient management treatments, the application of 2 t Gliricidia loppings + 20 kg nitrogen (N) through urea to sorghum crop recorded significantly highest grain yield of 1712 kg ha?1 followed by application of 4 t compost + 20 kg N through urea (1650 kg ha?1) as well as 40 kg N through urea alone (1594 kg ha?1). Similar to sorghum, in case of mung bean also, CT exhibited a significant influence on mung bean grain yields (888 kg ha?1) which was 6.7% higher compared to MT (832 kg ha?1). Among all the conjunctive nutrient management treatments, 2 t compost + 10 kg N through urea and 2 t compost + 1 t Gliricidia loppings performed significantly well and recorded similar mung bean grain yields of 960 kg ha?1 followed by 1 t Gliricidia loppings + 10 kg N through urea (930 kg ha?1). The soil nitrogen chemical fractions (SNCFs) were also found to be significantly influenced by tillage and conjunctive nutrient management treatments. Further, a significant correlation of SNCF with total soil nitrogen was observed. In the correlation study, it was also observed that N fraction dynamically played an important role in enhancing the availability pool of N in soil and significantly influenced the yield of sorghum grain and mung bean.  相似文献

In the present study, seven fertilizer treatments [T1, 50% NPK; T2, 100% NPK (Recommended dose of fertilizer, 200–65.4–124.5 kg N-P-K ha?1); T3, 150% NPK; T4, 100% PK; T5, 100% NK; T6, 100% NP and T7, control (zero NPK)] with four replications were assessed in the new alluvial soil zone (Entisols) of West Bengal, India. The objectives of the study were to generate information on potato productivity, profitability, indigenous nutrient supply and net gain/loss of NPK in post-harvest soil. Plants grown under higher NPK supply resulted in higher tuber yield and there were significant (p ≤ 0.05) reductions in total yield with nutrient omissions. Nutrient?limited yields were 19.78, 2.83 and 1.77 t ha?1 for N, P and K, considering total tuber yield (28.24 t ha?1) obtained under 100% NPK as targeted yield. Indigenous nutrient supply of N, P and K were estimated at 24.1, 22.34 and 110.22 kg ha?1, respectively that indicates higher K?supplying capacity of experimental soil as compared to N and P. Net income (US$1349 ha?1 year?1) and B:C ratio (1.91) was highest with 100% NPK, and further addition of NPK (150%) resulted in decrease on net return (US$1193 ha?1 year?1) and B:C ratio (1.73).  相似文献

Effect of potassium (K) fertilization (0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 kg K ha?1) on yield, nitrogen (N) and K nutrition of Boro (dry season) rice and apparent soil K balance was studied. Experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) regional station farm, Habiganj, Bangladesh during 2007–2008 to 2009–2010 in a wetland rice ecosystem under haor area. Cropping pattern was Boro–Fallow–Fallow. A popular rice variety BRRI dhan29 was tested in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results indicated that BRRI dhan29 maintained an average grain yield of 5.19 t ha?1 year?1 without K fertilization. Potassium fertilization significantly increased the grain yield to 6.86 t ha?1 year?1. Quadratic equations best explained the progressive increase of rice yield with increasing K rates. Optimum dose of K in 3 years ranged from 78 to 93 kg ha?1. Internal N use efficiency of rice decreased with increasing K rates. However, K use efficiency was inconsistent. Apparent K balance study revealed that application of 100 kg K ha?1 was not able to maintain a positive K balance in soil under wetland ecosystem with Boro–Fallow–Fallow cropping system. However, K fertilization decreased the negativity of K balance in soil.  相似文献

Phospho-compost (PC) and poultry manure (PM) were evaluated in field experiments to diversify integrated nutrient management (INM) for rain-fed cotton. Seed cotton yield in the PC (2501–2579 kg ha?1) was similar to the recommended INM (2673 kg ha?1) treatment and was significantly better than nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (100% NPK) (2130 kg ha?1) and farmers practice (FP) (1886 kg ha?1). Yield was lower in the PM (2476–2617 kg ha?1) than in the PC. Nutrient uptake was higher in all INM intervention plots due to an improvement in soil nutrient status compared with those receiving 100% NPK. Soil labile carbon values were higher in the INM treatments (333–452 mg kg?1), with a greater magnitude in the PC-amended plots (402–452 mg kg?1). Carbon management index (CMI) values were higher for the INM than treatments NPK and FP. Among INM interventions, PC plots had higher values than the PM.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine whether by applying biochar, it is possible to augment the beneficial effects of legume–crop rotation systems on soil fertility and crop performance. Repeated experiments were established in 2012 and 2013 in South-western Benin using a split-split plot design. Two legumes, Mucuna pruriens (mucuna) and Vigna unguiculata (cowpea), were planted for 42 days on biochar-amended and unamended plots and subsequently cut and applied as mulch 5 days before planting rice. Rice plants were either fertilized or not using a fertilizer rate of 60, 30, and 30 kg ha?1 of N, P2O5, and K2O, respectively. The results showed that the application of legume green manures and fertilizer, either singly or in combination, improved soil nutrient availability, CEC, shoot yield, and grain yield of rice on both biochar-amended and unamended plots. However, the effect was significantly (p < 0.05) greater on biochar-amended plots. The mean grain yield for all cropping seasons was 1.8 t ha?1 for biochar-amended plots and 1.3 t ha?1 for unamended plots. The greater grain yield of rice on biochar-amended plots was associated with improved soil fertility and increased N uptake.  相似文献

Abstract

Maximum yield research (MYR) and maximum economic yield systems (MEY) are important under the present situation of increased demographic changes, which have reduced the per capita availability of both land and food. Among root and tuber crops, cassava is found in a variety of production systems and performs well under various levels of management from low‐input to high‐input systems. A systematic approach in fertilizer use involves the determination and elimination of soil nutrient constraints for balanced supply of all potentially deficient essential nutrients for sustainable high yield. In the systematic approach of determining optimal fertilizer for cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) in a Typic Kandiustult soil of Kerala, India, studies on critical levels of nutrients, original nutritional status of the soil, its sorption capacity, and greenhouse/screenhouse nutrient survey were carried out. The critical levels of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) were determined as 8.23 and 43.5 µg g?1, respectively. The preliminary analysis of the soil of the experimental site revealed the overall fertility status as very poor. The sorption studies conducted for P, K, copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), sulfur (S), and boron (B) indicated P, K, S, and B were limiting in this particular soil. The quantities of these nutrients needed to optimize the soil nutrient status were determined from the preliminary soil analysis, critical levels of nutrients, and sorption curves and found to be 136 µg mL?1 P, 0.338 meq 100 mL?1 K, 20 µg mL?1 S, and 6.025 µg mL?1 B, respectively. From the greenhouse nutrient survey, N, P, K, and calcium (Ca) were seen as limiting nutrients for this soil; therefore the optimum treatment for cassava was fixed as N‐P‐K at 100:300:300 kg ha?1, respectively. Field experiments were conducted for two seasons with different levels of the optimum treatment using a short duration (6–7 months) cassava variety, Sree Vijaya. The optimum treatment gave a yield of 43.41 t ha?1, whereas the yield under the existing practice recommendations was 20–25 t ha?1. Economic analysis showed this optimum treatment as the best in terms of highest gross return (Rs 1,31,125/‐), net return (Rs 83,150/‐), added return (Rs 70, 178/‐), added profit (Rs 56,142/‐), and benefit cost ratio (BCR) (2.73).  相似文献

Purpose

Superabsorbent polymers, new water-saving materials and soil conditioners, are used widely in dry-farming agriculture. However, little is known about their effects on the soil physical properties under dry-farming conditions. To elucidate the effects of two SAPs (Wote and microbe) at different doses on the soil bulk density, water status, potato growth, yield, and economic benefit in a dry-farming region, we conducted a 2-year fixed field position experiment in the semiarid drought-prone area of Ningxia, China.

Materials and methods

The two SAPs were diluted 1:10 (product:soil) and applied at different rates before planting, i.e., Wote SAP 30 kg ha?1, Wote SAP 60 kg ha?1, Wote SAP 90 kg ha?1, microbe SAP 30 kg ha?1, microbe SAP 60 kg ha?1, and microbe SAP 90 kg ha?1. The treatment without SAP was used as the control.

Results and discussion

The tilth soil bulk density decreased under different SAP doses compared with the control, and the soil total porosity improved greatly, where the Wote SAP treatments had the greatest effects. The soil bulk density (0–60 cm) under Wote SAP 90 kg ha?1 was significantly decreased by 6.4% compared with the control. The Wote SAP treatments had the greatest effects on water conservation during the critical potato growth stage, where the soil water storage (0–100 cm) was significantly higher than the control. The Wote SAP treatments promoted potato growth in the later period, where the plant height and stem diameter were higher than the control. Higher yield and commodity rate improvements were achieved by the application of Wote and microbe SAP compared with the control, where the optimum dose was 60–90 kg ha?1 for Wote SAP. The application of Wote SAP 90 kg ha?1 significantly increased crop water use efficiency compared with no SAP, and the commodity rate was highest with Wote SAP 60 kg ha?1. The mean potato yield, commodity rate, and net income increased significantly using Wote SAP at 60 and 90 kg ha?1, i.e., by 38.2 and 50.5%, 18.5 and 14.1%, and 28.5 and 35.0%, respectively, compared with no SAP.

Conclusions

The application of SAPs can decrease soil bulk density and significantly improve soil porosity and soil water conservation capacity, thereby promoting potato growth. The application of Wote SAP 60–90 kg ha?1 significantly increased potato yield and net income in a dry-farming region of Ningxia, China.

Besides being an essential macronutrient for plant growth, potassium (K) also acts as a stress-relieving agent against various biotic and abiotic stresses, especially water stress. An experiment consisting of three lowland Thai rice varieties (Pathumthani 1, RD57, RD41), two cultivation methods [dry direct seeding (DDS), transplanting (TP)] and four K doses (0, 80, 120,160?kg ha?1) under alternate wetting and drying (AWD) water regime was conducted to investigate the impact of K and cultivation method on lowland rice varieties subjected to AWD. Pathumthani 1 had significantly higher grain yield at the 120?kg K ha?1 compared with all other K doses. RD57 and RD41 had maximum grain yield at the 80 and 120?kg K ha?1, respectively, which was significantly higher than the control; however, grain yield among different K doses was mostly similar for RD57 and RD41. K application at the rate of 120?kg ha?1 for Pathumthani 1 and 80?kg ha?1 for RD57 and RD41 could be a feasible option. The performance of DDS and TP was better at the 80 and 120?kg K ha?1, respectively. Application of K at the optimum dose with proper selection of variety and cultivation method could help in sustainable rice production.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to study the response of maize to magnesium (Mg) and to find out the residual effect of Mg and green manure (GM) on transplanted aman (T. aman) rice in the maize–GM–T. aman cropping pattern. There were six treatments: T1 (recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) + 0 kg Mg + 2 t CaCO3 ha?1), T2 (RDF + 10 kg Mg + 2 t CaCO3 ha?1), T3 (RDF + 20 kg Mg +2 t CaCO3 ha?1), T4 (RDF + 30 kg Mg + 2 t CaCO3 ha?1), T5 (RDF) and T6 (2 t CaCO3 ha?1). The response of maize to Mg was quadratic and the optimum dose of Mg was found to be 19 kg ha?1, which resulted in maximum yield of 10,507 kg ha?1. The residual effect of Mg along with GM and reduced dose of chemical fertilizer resulted in significant increase of grain yield of rice. Thus, N250P60K100Mg19S40Zn5B2 kg ha?1 for maize, only 20 kg N ha?1 for GM (Sesbania) and N60P9K33S10Zn1B1 kg ha?1 for T. aman appeared as the best combination for maximizing the productivity and may be recommended for this pattern at non-calcareous light-textured soils of Bangladesh. Application of lime increased soil pH, and this together with fertilizer and GM tended to improve soil fertility and thus may be recommended for soil amelioration.  相似文献

Excessive nitrogen (N) fertilizer application is common in the central Zhejiang Province area, China. A three-year (2009–11) experiment was conducted to determine the optimum N application rate for this area by studying the effects of various N rates on rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield, N-use efficiency (NUE), and quality of paddy field water. Results showed that no significant yield differences were observed under N rates from 180 to 315 kg ha?1. The NUE could be improved by reducing N application rates without significantly decreasing yield. Due to high ammonia (NH4+-N) and nitrate (NO3N) concentrations, 5–7 days after N application was a critical stage for reducing N pollution. The N rate for the greatest yield was 176 kg ha?1, accounting for 65 percent of the conventional N rate (270 kg ha?1). The N-rate reduction in this area may be necessary for maintaining high yield, improving NUE, and reducing environmental pollution.  相似文献

Over the years, a scarcity of information on nutrient gains or losses has led to overemphasis being placed on crop yields and economic income as the direct benefits from fertilizer micro-dosing technology. There is increasing concern about the sustainability of this technology in smallholder Sahelian cropping systems. This study was designed in the 2013 and 2014 cropping seasons to establish nutrient balances under fertilizer micro-dosing technology and their implications on soil nutrient stocks. Two fertilizer micro-dosing treatments [2 g hill?1 of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and 6 g hill?1 of compound fertilizer Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium (NPK) (15-15-15)] and three rates of manure (100 g hill?1, 200 g hill?1 and 300 g hill?1) and the relevant control treatments were arranged in a factorial experiment organized in a randomized complete block design with three replications. On average, millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R.Br.) grain yield increased by 39 and 72% for the plots that received the fertilizer micro-dosing of 6 g NPK hill?1 and 2 g DAP hill?1, respectively, in comparison with the unfertilized control plots. The average partial nutrients balances for the two cropping seasons were ?37 kg N ha?1yr?1, ?1 kg P ha?1yr?1 and ?34 kg K ha?1yr?1 in plots that received the application of 2 g DAP hill?1, and ?31 kg N ha?1yr?1, ?1 kg P ha?1yr?1 and ?27 kg K ha?1yr?1 for 6 g NPK hill?1. The transfer of straw yields accounted for 66% N, 55% P and 89% K for removal. The average full nutrient balances for the two cropping seasons in fertilizer micro-dosing treatments were ?47.8 kg N ha?1 yr?1, ?6.8 kg P ha?1 yr?1 and ?21.3 kg K ha?1 yr?1 which represent 7.8, 24.1 and 9.4% of N, P and K stocks, respectively. The nutrient stock to balance ratio (NSB) for N decreased from 13 to 11 and from 15 to 12 for the plots that received the application of 2 g DAP hill?1 and 6 g NPK hill?1, respectively. The average NSB for P did not exceed 5 for the same plots. It was concluded that fertilizer micro-dosing increases the risk of soil nutrient depletion in the Sahelian low-input cropping system. These results have important implications for developing an agro-ecological approach to addressing sustainable food production in the Sahelian smallholder cropping system.  相似文献

Abstract

Effective soil diagnostic criteria for exchangeable potassium (Ex-K) combined with inorganic potassium (K) application rates were developed to lower K input in forage corn (Zea mays L.) production using experimental fields with different application rates and histories of cattle manure compost. Two corn varieties, ‘Cecilia’ as a low K uptake variety and ‘Yumechikara’ as a high K uptake variety, were selected from among 20 varieties and tested to make diagnostic criteria for K fertilization applicable to varieties with different K uptakes. The K uptakes increased from 96 to 303 kg K ha?1 for ‘Cecilia’ and from 123 to 411 kg K ha?1 for ‘Yumechikara’ with increasing Ex-K content on a dry soil basis from 0.11 to 0.92 g kg?1 with no inorganic K fertilizer application. The K uptake by corn for achieving the target dry matter yield of 18 Mg ha?1 was estimated to be approximately 200 kg K ha?1 in common between the two varieties. Yields of both varieties achieved the target yield at an Ex-K content of approximately 0.30 g kg?1 with no K fertilization, although ‘Yumechikara’ reached the target yield at a lower Ex-K content. At the low Ex-K content of 0.1 g kg?1, inorganic K fertilizer application at 83 kg K ha?1 was needed to gain the target yield, and apparent K recovery rate for K fertilizer was calculated to be 70% for both varieties. The K uptakes for gaining the target yield by the K fertilization were lower than that by soil K supply. Based on these results, diagnostic criteria of Ex-K and inorganic K application rates were set up as follows: at an Ex-K content of < 0.15 g kg?1, inorganic K fertilizer is applied at 83 kg K ha?1 (100 kg ha?1 as potassium oxide (K2O) equivalent); at an Ex-K content of 0.15–0.30 g kg?1, the application rate is reduced to 33 kg K ha?1 (40 kg K2O ha?1); at an Ex-K content of ≥ 0.30 g kg?1, inorganic K fertilizer is not applied because of sufficient K in the soil. Additionally, we propose that cattle manure compost be used to supplement soil K fertility.  相似文献

Excessive and inappropriate use of fertilizers is a key factor of low sugarcane yield and degradation of soil. A two-year (2013–14 and 2014–15) field study was conducted to assess the impact of combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers on sugarcane at research farm of Shakarganj Sugar Research Institute, Jhang, Pakistan. Experiment was conducted under randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were used as control (no exogenous application), spent wash (160 t ha?1), (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) NPK (168:112:112 kg ha?1), spent wash (120 t ha?1) + NPK (42:28:28 kg ha?1), spent wash (80 t ha?1) + NPK (84:56:56 kg ha?1), spent wash (40 t ha?1) + NPK (126:84:84 kg ha?1), and spent wash (160 t ha?1) + NPK (42:28:28 kg ha?1). Application of spent wash @ 80 t ha?1 + NPK @ 84:56:56 kg ha?1 resulted maximum crop growth rate (11.35 g m?2 d?1), leaf area index (7.78), and net assimilation rate (2.53 g m?2 d?1). Maximum number of millable canes (14), weight per stripped cane (0.90 kg), stripped cane yield (117.60 t ha?1) and unstripped cane yield (141.25 t ha?1) were observed with spent wash @ 80 t ha?1 + NPK @ 84:56:56 kg ha?1, followed by sole fertilizer application @ 168:112:112 kg NPK ha?1 and spent wash @160 t ha?1 + NPK @ 42:28:28 kg ha?1. Similar trend was observed regarding quality parameters. The maximum benefit–cost ratio (1.80) was achieved with integrated application of spent wash @ 80 t ha?1 + NPK @ 84:56:56 kg ha?1.  相似文献

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) residues and nitrogen (N) management are the major problems in the southern part of Iran where irrigated wheat–cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)–wheat rotation is a common practice. A 2-year (2009–2011) field experiment was conducted as a split plot design with four replications at a cotton field (Darab), Fars Province, Iran, to determine the influence of different rates of wheat residue (0%, 25%, 50%, and 75%) incorporation and N rates (150, 200, 300, and 400 kg ha?1) on weed suppression, yield, and yield components of cotton. Results showed that a higher residue incorporation and a lower N rate improved weed suppression in both years. For treatments receiving 150 kg N ha?1 and 75% of wheat residues (2250 kg ha?1), weed biomass and density were significantly lower compared to treatments receiving 400 kg N ha?1. The highest cotton lint yield (about 2400–2700 kg ha?1) was obtained by 300 kg N ha?1 in the absence of residue application, in both years. Incorporation of 25% of wheat residue (750 kg ha?1) and application of 300 kg N ha?1 are recommended to guarantee an optimum level of cotton lint yield and weed suppression in a wheat–cotton–wheat rotation in this region.  相似文献

Purpose

Biogas slurry (BS) was known to influence soil–plant ecosystems when applied as a fertilizer, especially in combination with a chemical fertilizer (CF). Limited information was available regarding how this combination of BS–CF actually affected the soil–plant ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of BS–CF combinations on peanut yield, soil properties, and carbon (C) storage in a red soil (Ultisol) in southern China.

Materials and methods

The soil was fertilized with five treatments, including a control (T1), CF-only (T2) treatment, and three treatments with different BS–CF combinations (T3–T5). The final quantities of N/P2O5/K2O applied in T2–T5 were 120:90:135 kg ha?1. In T3–T5, 15 % (18 kg ha?1), 30 % (36 kg ha?1), and 45 % (54 kg ha?1) of total N (TN), respectively, were applied with BS and the remaining TN was applied with CF. Crop yield, soil nutrients, C storage, and microbial activity were determined through field and laboratory experiments.

Results and discussion

In the field experiment, peanut grain yields of T3–T5 were higher than those of T1 (44.5–55.7 %) and T2 (10.8–19.4 %), with the highest yield from T4 (3588 kg ha?1). The relationship between BS–TN inputs and peanut grain yield conformed to the linear-quadratic equation: y?=??1.14x 2?+?59.1x?+?2988 (R 2?=?0.98). The biomasses of peanut plants, at the flowering, pod production, and harvesting stages, were higher in T4 compared with those in T1 and T2. Moreover, T4 produced higher soil N and P (total and available) concentrations at the pod production and harvesting stages relative to other treatments, with increased soil microbial biomass C and N, and enhanced dehydrogenase and urease activities, at the flowering, pod production, and harvesting stages. Data from the incubation experiment were fitted to a first-order kinetic model, which showed that although the application of BS increased potentially mineralizable C, the additional C seemed to slowly degrade, and so would be retained in the soil for a longer period.

Conclusions

A BS–CF combination increased peanut grain yield and biomass, due to increases in soil N and P availability, microbial biomass C and N concentrations, and urease and dehydrogenase activities. Moreover, the organic C retention time in the red soil was extended. Combined application of BS–CF at a suitable ratio (36 kg BS–TN ha?1), together with proper management practices, could be effective to improve the quality and nutrient balance of amended soils.

In an incubation experiment with flooded rice soil fertilized with different N amounts and sampled at different rice stages, the methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) production in relation to soil labile carbon (C) pools under two temperature (35°C and 45°C) and moisture (aerobic and submerged) regimes were investigated. The field treatments imposed in the wet season included unfertilized control and 40, 80 and 120 kg ha?1 N fertilization. The production of CH4 was significantly higher (27%) under submerged compared to aerobic conditions, whereas CO2 production was significantly increased under aerobic by 21% compared to submerged conditions. The average labile C pools were significantly increased by 21% at the highest dose of N (120 kg ha?1) compared to control and was found highest at rice panicle initiation stage. But the grain yield had significantly responded only up to 80 kg ha?1 N, although soil labile C as well as gaseous C emission was noticed to be highest at 120 kg ha?1 N. Hence, 80 kg N ha?1 is a better option in the wet season at low land tropical flooded rice in eastern India for sustaining grain yield and minimizing potential emission of CO2 and CH4.  相似文献
