Crossbred (Chester White X Yorkshire X Duroc) boars were used to evaluate the effects of feeding a progestogen (altrenogest) on body growth, endocrine function (determined during feeding and after withdrawal of altrenogest), carcass composition, boar odor and testicular function (determined after a 30-d withdrawal from altrenogest). Boars from 18 litters were assigned at 12 wk of age to three treatments: 1) 18 control boars; 2) 18 boars fed altrenogest (20 mg/day) for 6 wk from 15 to 21 wk of age, followed by 30 d with no treatment; and 3) 18 boars castrated at 2 wk of age (barrows). Daily gains were greater (P less than .05) in boars fed altrenogest than in barrows through 21 wk of age but were lower (P less than .05) than those of control boars and barrows during the 30-d withdrawal period. Boars fed altrenogest weighed less (P less than .05) than control boars and barrows at 25 wk of age (at slaughter). Both groups of boars were similar in percentage of muscle and had less (P less than .05) backfat than barrows, whereas control boars had the largest (P less than .05) loineye areas. Based on evaluations by a trained sensory panel, intensity of boar odor in fat samples was similar for both groups of boars and was greater (P less than .05) than that for barrows. The nitrogen and energy metabolism and the energy consumption of growing boars were measured in 2 metabolic and feeding trials using 8 parallel animals each. The studies covered the 30 to 150 kg live weight range. The growth intensity of the boars was found strongly influenced by the protein level of the ration. At a crude protein level of 18% in the ration, the boars gained, on the average, 780 g per day during the fattening period under study. Energy conversion was found to decline as the protein amount went up. The energy expediture for protein deposition was estimated at 1.8 to 2.0 kcal metabolizable energy per kg deposited. The energy and feed expenditures were calculated to be 7.1 Mcal net energy--fat retention for the whole development period or 3.0 kg dry matter per kg live weight. Boars proved to have an energy requirement differing from that of barrows and gilts; equations are presented for derivation.  相似文献

为分析中国南方高温高湿环境对扬翔华系杜洛克后备公猪在生长育肥期采食量、采食时间等采食行为和饲料效率的影响,本研究以扬翔华系杜洛克后备公猪在FIRE测定站的998 195条采食记录为基础,使用温湿度自动监测设备实时监测圈舍温度和湿度。采用R 3.5.1软件统计猪群昼夜采食节律,运用线性混合模型分析不同温湿度水平采食行为和饲料效率的差异,并尝试建立扬翔华系杜洛克生长公猪实际采食量预测模型。结果表明:扬翔华系杜洛克生长猪的采食行为呈昼夜节律变化,受日温度变化影响;当环境温度在20~24℃,温湿指数(THI)在66~71时,生长猪的饲料转化率(FCR)和剩余采食量(RFI)均较低;当环境温度超过25℃,THI超过74时,FCR最高可提高13.98%,RFI最高可提高182.92%。综上可知,在华南地区湿热环境下,当环境温度控制在18~22℃、THI在65~70时,扬翔华系杜洛克生长公猪的采食量较高,FCR和RFI较低,饲料效率较高。THI可作为监测生长公猪热应激的候选指标。  相似文献

A study was conducted to elucidate the effects of social factors on the concentrations of boar taint substances, androstenone and skatole, in boars. The factors included dominance (social rank) and the effects of strongly tainted animals on other members of the group. Four successive replicates of 100 pigs (50 boars + 50 gilts) with an average live weight of 24 kg were randomly allocated to 10 pens of 10. Data for this study were collected during the period of 67 to 114 kg of live weight and included the repetitive recording of agonistic behavior during competitive feeding; blood sampling for determination of plasma androstenone, skatole and testosterone in boars; feces sampling for determination of skatole content; and collection of bulbourethral glands in boars, and uteri plus ovaries in gilts at slaughter, for the assessment of sexual maturity. Results show an influence of social rank on plasma concentrations of androstenone (P = .0001) and testosterone (P = .0001), the weight of the bulbourethral glands (P = .0001), and plasma skatole (P = .02). Pens were classified according to the pig with the highest concentration of androstenone in the pen into high, medium, and low maximum pens. In pens with high maximum concentrations of androstenone, the second-highest androstenone concentration (P = .0001), and the average concentration (P = .0003) in the pen were higher than those in pens with medium or low maximum concentrations of androstenone. Mean aggression level was also higher (P = .02), but pens with high maximum aggression level did not have higher mean androstenone concentration. Rank effect on androstenone was more important than aggression effect. Neither maximum androstenone concentration nor maximum aggression level in a pen was related to the pen mean stage of sexual maturity in either sex. No influences of rank, aggression, or aggression received were found on the feces skatole level, and no pheromonal communicative function was demonstrated for skatole. High androstenone concentrations did not have a suppressive effect on androstenone concentrations in other males of the group; on the contrary, the levels were increased. This may be due to a stimulating effect of androstenone and, possibly, mating activity. Consequently, in the production of boars for slaughter, strongly tainted animals should be avoided or removed and mating activity minimized. This could be facilitated by, for instance, slaughtering before sexual maturity or separate rearing of the sexes.  相似文献

A synthetic progestogen (altrenogest) was fed to 24 Yorkshire X Duroc boars to determine effects on body growth, serum testosterone, and testicular characteristics. Boars from six litters (blocks) were allotted randomly to one of four treatment groups at 12 wk of age. Treatment groups were: controls, altrenogest fed for 3 wk, altrenogest fed for 6 wk and altrenogest fed for 9 wk. Treatment began at 15 wk of age at a daily dose of 20 mg X boar-1. Although there were no differences among treatment groups for gain and feed intake, boars fed altrenogest for 6 and 9 wk tended to consume more feed and were less (P less than .05) efficient than boars fed altrenogest for 3 wk or controls. Boars fed altrenogest for 3, 6 and 9 wk maintained lower (P less than .05) peripheral serum testosterone concentrations than controls from 15 to 24 wk of age. However, serum testosterone increased after altrenogest withdrawal in the 3- and 6-wk treatment groups but did not reach control concentrations by 24 wk. Boars fed altrenogest for 9 wk maintained serum testosterone below 1 ng/ml during the treatment period. Despite lower concentrations of serum testosterone in altrenogest-treated boars, backfat thickness was similar to controls, perhaps suggesting a slight anabolic effect of altrenogest on nutrient partitioning. Testicular weights and volumes at 24 wk decreased (P less than .001) linearly with increased duration of altrenogest feeding. Serum testosterone and estradiol in testicular venous effluent at castration were lower (P less than .01) in altrenogest-treated boars than in controls. These data demonstrate that feeding altrenogest inhibits both testicular growth and steroidogenesis of boars without altering body growth or backfat thickness.  相似文献

Three normal, sexually mature young boars of Swedish Yorkshire breed were treated with daily intramuscular injections of diethylstilboestrol and/or oestradiolbenzoate for a total period of 13–15 weeks. Whole ejaculates were collected on a dummy sow with an artificial vagina twice a week. The ejaculate was examined as regards semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility and sperm morphology. The seminal plasma was analysed for Na, K, Cl, Mg, inorganic phosphate, total protein and fructose. Testicles, epididymides and the accessory sex glands were obtained at slaughter. Material from epididymal segments A, B, Db, Fa and Fb was collected and examined for sperm morphology. Spermatocrit, osmotic pressure and plasma concentrations of Na, K, Gl, total protein and GPC were assessed in material from epididymal segment Fa. The sex glands and the accessory sex glands were examined maeroscopically and microscopically.The semen volume, the sperm concentration and consequently the total sperm count per ejaculate showed a gradual increase during the course of the investigation. This is to be expected as the boars used were comparatively young at the beginning of the experiment. These values were all within normal limits for adolescent boars.Taking all the characteristics examined into consideration no conclusive evidence was found that an exogenic administration of oestrogens to intact boars has any influence on the function of the epididymis and the accessory sex glands.  相似文献

The aim of this study was the histological and immunohistochemical evaluation and comparison of testicular, bulbourethral and brain tissue in immunized and intact control boars. Fourteen male piglets, aged between 10 and 16 weeks, were vaccinated twice subcutaneously 4 to 5 weeks apart with Improvac, an anti-GnRH vaccine. The pigs were sacrificed 1 to 16 weeks following the second injection. Testicular weight was recorded and various tissue samples were collected and fixed in formalin and Bouin's fixative for histological examination. In addition, 2 boars were immunized five times and slaughtered 60 weeks after the last injection. Histological and immunohistological studies performed on testes and epididymes showed clear signs of atrophy in the immunized animals and a significant reduction in paired testes weight was seen in treated boars. Microscopically, the mean diameter of the seminiferous tubules was markedly reduced. Spermatogonia as well as few spermatocytes were visible between the Sertoli cells and Leydig cells were atrophic. None or only few spermatozoa were detected in the epididymis. The bulbourethral glands of immunocastrated pigs were smaller than in control pigs and showed histological evidence of atrophy. Immunohistological detection of LH and FSH in the pituitary gland of treated and control boars showed no quantifiable difference in the amount of these two gonadotropins and no lesions were visible in the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. From our findings it can be concluded that the anti-GnRH vaccine Improvac induces severe atrophy of testes and bulbourethral glands in immunized pigs. This effect appears to be reversible, depending on the immune response of each animal and the time elapsed after the last booster injection.  相似文献

In the period 1996–2006 two specific sperm defects, the knobbed acrosome (KA) defect and the immotile short‐tail sperm (ISTS) defect, showed a strong negative association with fertility in Finnish breeding boars. In this study, we examined the incidence of these two sperm defects in two pig breeds, their effects on fertility and their associations with sperm morphology and testicular histology. Semen samples from 2048 (1097 Yorkshire, 951 Landrace) boars were collected. None of the Landrace boars revealed either the KA defect or the ISTS defect. Of the Yorkshire boars, 0.8% were afflicted with the KA defect and 7.6% with the ISTS defect. Boars diagnosed with the ISTS defect produced no litters. Fertility data were available from two artificially inseminated (AI) boars and six farm breeding boars affected with the KA defect. Breeding boars with 45–81% knobbed spermatozoa (n = 6) did not produce any litters out of 71 sows bred. AI boars with 25–30% knobbed spermatozoa had a poor non‐return rate (on average 47% compared with 85% for normal control boars) and produced small litters, on average 2.5 piglets less than other boars of the same breed. Morphometry of testicular tissue and distribution of different cells in the seminiferous tubules were examined in nine boars. Boars with the KA defect had a smaller diameter of the seminiferous tubules (p < 0.05) and a lower number of Sertoli cells (p < 0.05) than controls. ISTS boars, in turn, had a significantly lower number of elongated spermatids (p < 0.05), and they also produced on average only 12% of the spermatozoa of normal boars. The ISTS defect is a manifestation of an autosomal recessive disease caused by an insertion in the KPL2 gene in porcine chromosome 16. Although we tried to map the KA defect, its aetiology remains unclear.  相似文献

本试验旨在研究牛磺酸(Tau)对种公猪性欲、精液品质、血清激素含量及精浆抗氧化能力的影响。选用24头年龄、体重相近的健康成年大约克夏种公猪,随机分为4个组,每组6个重复,每个重复1头猪。各组分别饲喂牛磺酸添加水平为0(对照组)、2、4、6 g/kg的饲粮,试验期90 d,分为1~45 d和46~90 d 2个阶段。结果表明:1)试验46~90 d时,添加6 g/kg牛磺酸显著提高了种公猪的性欲(P0.05)、采精量(P0.01)、精子活力(P0.05),4 g/kg牛磺酸改善了精子密度和精子畸形率(P0.05);2)与对照组相比,6 g/kg牛磺酸水平组极显著提高了种公猪血清促黄体素(LH)含量(P0.01),显著提高了睾酮(T)含量(P0.05);3)试验46~90 d时,6 g/kg牛磺酸显著降低了种公猪精浆丙二醛(M DA)含量(P0.05),显著提高了超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活力(P0.05),4 g/kg牛磺酸显著提高了谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶(GSH-Px)活力(P0.05)。由此可见,饲粮中长期添加牛磺酸可以调控种公猪血清激素含量,增加精浆抗氧化能力,进而增强种公猪性欲,提高种公猪精液品质,本试验条件下牛磺酸适宜添加水平为6 g/kg。  相似文献

Previous studies have reported conflicting data on gender differences in plasma IGF-I in postnatal pigs. There is also debate over the role of IGF-II in regulation of postnatal growth. We have, therefore, determined the concentrations of plasma IGF-I, IGF-II, and IGF-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) in boars, barrows, and gilts and related these to postnatal growth characteristics. Plasma concentrations of IGF-I were higher in boars than in gilts or barrows from 13 wk. of age, and plasma IGF-II levels were generally higher in barrows than in boars or gilts. Plasma IGFBP-3 levels were higher in boars than in gilts or barrows at most ages. Between 15 and 23 wk. of age, IGF-I and IGFBP-3, but not IGF-II, were positively associated with growth rate, voluntary feed intake, and gain:feed ratio. Plasma IGF-II, but not IGF-I or IGFBP-3, was positively associated with backfat depth during this period. These results support the hypothesis that circulating IGF-I and IGF-II are regulators of lean and adipose tissue growth, respectively.  相似文献

Boar taint in 500 Swedish Landrace and Yorkshire boar carcasses was tested by smelling fat samples heated on the tip of a soldering iron at 150°C. About 40% of the boars were scored as non-tainted; in another 40%, the judges were unsure whether taint was present or not. Boar taint was judged present in only 20% of the boars.The effects of weight and sex on boar taint were studied in approx. 275 boars, barrows and gilts slaughtered at 70, 90, 110 and 130 kg live weight. The number of boars scored as tainted increased with weight, but weight did not affect the level of taint in all boars. When the taste of boar meat and fat was compared to castrates, no differences were found in 80% of comparisons at 70 or 90 kg.The effect of weight on boar taint was studied in 69 boars reared on ad libitum or restricted feed. Biopsies were taken, by a needle biopsy technique, at 70, 90 and 100 kg live weight. The incidence of boar taint did not increase from 70 to 100 kg when boars were on restricted feed, but the weight effect was significant and linear at the ad libitum feeding level. The cause was probably an interaction between physiological development, age and weight of the boars.  相似文献

Eight feeding experiments, each comprising 48 boars or gilts, were carried out. The factors feed level, Ca, P and protein levels were varied within practical physiological limits. The animals were slaughtered at close to 100 kg live weight. Lesions in joints and bones were of a noninfectious, non-rachitic nature and of the osteochondrosis and arthrosis type. Ten to 12 g Ca and approx. 10 g P/kg ration gave histomorphologically seemingly more optimum structure of the spongious bone tissue and a higher ash percentage in bones than 7 g Ca and 6 g P, or unbalanced mineral levels in the ration. However, there was no significant difference in degree or incidence of joint and bone lesions between mineral groups. Neither were there such differences present between feed level groups or protein level groups. This may for the feed level groups be partly due to the low feed level pigs having a longer period of time during which they were highly susceptible to the development of lesions. The low feed level animals had longer long bones at 100 kg live weight than the high feed level animals. The length of the vertebral column was, however, approximately similar in the 2 feed level groups. The angles of the condyles and head of the femur according to the length axis were influenced by feed level or growth rate, most probably by an effect on the endochondral ossification.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to describe the temporal changes in peripheral plasma levels of testosterone and Cortisol in boars during and after heat stress. A total of 8 boars were utilized, 4 of them were exposed to 35°C, for 100 h in a climatic room, and 4 served as controls and were kept at 20 °C for 100 h in the climatic room.Blood samples were obtained via permanent vein catheters 3 times daily from 5 days before heat stress until 20 days after termination of heat stress. Testestorone levels were determined by radioimmunoassay and Cortisol by a competitive protein binding technique.For both hormones the pre-exposure levels were similar in both groups of boars. The control boars had significantly higher testosterone levels, while being in the climatic room, than during any other period. The experimental boars had slightly increased testosterone levels during the first day of heat stress and thereafter continuously decreased levels. In the control boars the testosterone levels returned to pre-exposure levels immediately after removal from the climatic room, whereas in the experimental boars the testosterone levels were dramatically increased during the first 5 days after exposure. The differences in Cortisol levels, between the 2 groups of boars were restricted to the period spent in the climatic room. Boars were assigned at 5 wk of age in a 2 X 2 factorial arrangement to two energy (ad libitum and 75% of ad libitum) and two Ca and P levels (100 and 150% of the National Research Council daily recommended amounts) to determine the effect of reduced growth rate and elevated Ca and P intake on foot and leg measurements, pad and horn incidence and severity of lesions, and structural soundness. There were 20 boars/treatment; 15 boars from each treatment were necropsied at 10 +/- 2-d intervals from 80 to 220 d of age (45 to 185 d on test), with the remaining five boars in each treatment being necropsied at 220 d of age. Feet and leg measurements were taken and toe pads and horns were scored initially and after 78 and 131 d on when necropsied. Boars remaining after 130 d on test were scored for overall structural soundness. Toe size and circumference and length of limbs increased as boars grew, with larger values for ad libitum-fed compared with limit-fed boars when observed at a constant age. However, when these values were corrected for body weight, the effect of energy was generally removed and, in some cases, reversed. Limit-fed boars appeared to have fewer pad and horn lesions, but the effects were inconsistent. In general, Ca and P levels had little or no effect on toe and limb sizes and pad and horn lesion scores, whether or not the values were expressed on a constant age or corrected body weight basis. A comparison of inside and outside toes on the front and hind feet revealed that outside toes were larger than inside toes, with the magnitude of the difference much larger for the hind foot than for the front foot. The hind inside toes had fewer pad and horn lesions. Structural soundness scores were more desirable in ad libitum-fed compared with limit-fed boars; but, elevated Ca and P levels had no effect. Thus, these data do not support a hypothesis that structural soundness can be improved by reducing the growth rate of developing boars or by feeding an elevated level of Ca and P.  相似文献

为了研究生长轴激素对猪繁殖性能发育的影响,随机选取0、3、20、30、90、120、180日龄纯种二花脸公猪和大白公猪各4头,屠宰并采取睾丸组织样,以18S rRNA为内标,用相对定量RT-PCR法研究睾丸IGF-I和IGF-IRmRNA的表达及发育性变化。结果表明,二花脸猪与大白猪睾丸IG-FI mRNA表达的发育模式在30日龄前完全相同,即随着日龄的增加而呈极显著增加(P<0.01);二花脸猪睾丸IG-FI mRNA相对表达量在30~180日龄无显著变化;大白猪睾丸IGF-I mRNA相对表达量在90日龄有所下降,而在120和180日龄又恢复到30日龄水平。二花脸猪睾丸IG-FI mRNA相对表达量显著高于大白猪(P<0.05)。二花脸猪与大白猪睾丸IGF-IR mRNA表达的发育模式不同。二花脸猪睾丸IG-FIR mRNA相对表达量在90~120日龄呈显著下降趋势(P<0.05);大白猪IG-FIR mRNA相对表达量在0日龄较高,随后显著下降(P<0.05),并在观察期内持续保持较低水平。二花脸猪IG-FIR mRNA相对表达量显著高于大白猪(P<0.05)。睾丸IGF-I mRNA和IG-FIR mRNA相对表达丰度呈极显著正相关(r=0.575,P<0.01)。结论:(1)不同品种猪睾丸IGF-I和IG-FIR mRNA表达具有特定的发育模式;(2)猪睾丸中IGF-I和IG-FIR mRNA的协同表达可能对猪繁殖性能的发育有重要调节作用。  相似文献

In connection with experiments for the ascertainment of energy and nutrient metabolization in castrated pigs, sows and boars over the complete fattening period and with alternating maintenance and growth feeding as well as the inclusion of an extreme protein supply level, blood parameters were studied of 3 animals per variant in order to recognize possible deviations in the metabolism and to be able to better assess the results of the measurements of energy metabolism. The results of the determination of the content of glucose, insulin, ketoses, ammonia, urea and amino acids in the blood are announced, the results of glucose elimination contained in the intravenous glucose tolerance test are depicted as tolerance curves. As a result, there was to be seen, arranged according to animal categories, a ranking of the glucose elimination rate of castrated pigs greater than sows greater than boars. The same sequence was observed with regard to insulin secretion, which corresponds to the blood sugar level. On the whole, the results of the blood tests do not show critical states of the metabolism hat can lead to an influentiation of energy metabolism.  相似文献

Three studies examined the effects of early postnatal treatment with a GnRH agonist on plasma concentrations of testosterone, dehydroepian-drosterone sulfate, 16-androstene steroids in fat and salivary glands, androstenone in fat and plasma, and testicular development of intact male pigs. The first study involved 45 7-d-old pigs assigned to three treatment groups: 1) boars administered 100 microg/kg of Lupron depot, 2) boars administered 200 microg/kg of Lupron depot, and 3) control boars receiving a saline carrier. The second study involved 20 7-d-old pigs assigned to two treatments: daily injection of 200 microL of 0.5 mg/mL Lupron from d 7 to 35 and controls treated with saline. The third study involved a total of 100 animals assigned to 10 groups of 10 based on their age at slaughter. These groups were subdivided into one of two treatments: 1) boars injected with 200 microL of 0.5 mg/mL of Lupron from d 3 to 35 and 2) control boars injected with saline. Testicular steroid hormone concentrations in plasma decreased (P < 0.01) within 7 d of GnRH agonist treatment. Following cessation of treatment, steroid levels increased to control levels and remained constant until the final rise at 5 mo. Plasma testosterone levels in the 100 microg/kg depot treatment group were higher (P < 0.05) than that of the 200 microg/kg and control group at 164 d of age. There were no differences between treatments (P > 0.05) in testicular steroid hormone levels at the end of study 2 or 3. There were no differences (P > 0.05) in concentrations of 16-androstene steroids in salivary glands between any of the treatment groups at market weight in studies 1 and 2. Fat androstenone levels measured in the third study ranged between 0.6 microg/g and 4.2 microg/g at 7 to 28 d of age. Treatment with GnRH agonist decreased plasma steroid levels and testicular development; however, by d 60 testicular size and weight were at control levels and remained similar until 180 d of age. The results of these studies indicate that daily administration of a GnRH agonist significantly decreased testicular development and steroidogenesis only during treatment, but testis growth and steroidogenesis had returned to control levels by 60 d of age in male pigs. Suppression of the early postnatal rise in testicular steroid hormones did not affect growth performance or steroid hormone levels at 5 to 6 mo of age.  相似文献

Ten 8-10-month-old Belgian Landrace boars were intratesticularly inoculated with 500 TCID50 of a virulent Belgian Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) isolate (75V19) in 0.1 ml volume. One control boar was similarly inoculated with phosphate-buffered saline solution. The genital organs of six inoculated boars were examined by virus isolation and immunofluorescence. In spite of high virus titers, the fluorescence in the testicles remained limited to a few small foci in the interstitial connective tissue and tunica albuginea at or close to the inoculation site. Neither virus replication, necrosis nor inflammatory lesions could be demonstrated in the epithelium of the seminiferous tubules. However, virus replication was regularly demonstrated in the serosa covering testicles, plexus pampiniformis, ductus deferens and tunica vaginalis. Virus was also isolated from the scrotal fluid. It is suggested that the serosa is the primary target tissue for ADV. The other four boars were inoculated to study the effect of ADV on semen. Severe morphologic alteration and lowered sperm cell concentrations were observed during several weeks after inoculation or until slaughter at 47, 53 and 58 days post inoculation. Virus was isolated from semen of only two out of four boars examined at 9 and 10 days post inoculation.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to analyse the effects of different feeding and recording regimes by electronic feeding stations on growth rate, feed intake and feed intake behaviour. A total of 563 boars of three dam lines were group‐penned and fed ad libitum during an age‐dependent performance test. Of this total, 219 were fed during the entire performance test period of 10 weeks by electronic feeding stations (continuous feeding regime). Based on this feeding regime, no differences were found in feed intake and feed intake behaviour when considering information from either all weeks or every second week. A second group of 344 boars was fed during test weeks 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 by electronic feeding stations and in the remaining weeks feed was supplied using conventional feeders without recording feed intake (periodic feeding regime). Growth rate and backfat thickness were non‐significantly different between feeding regimes, but significant differences were found between the periodic and continuous feeding regime in daily feed intake (2218 versus 2544 g) and behavioural traits such as visits per day (5.4 versus 7.2), time per day (57.1 versus 63.5 min), time per visit (12.5 versus 11.4 min), and feed intake rate (41.5 versus 43.4 g). Furthermore, the effect of test days on estimation of feed intake was analysed. In the periodic feeding regime, only the exclusion of the first 2 days of each week with recording showed a significant improvement of prediction of feed intake. Based on this daily information, differences in feed intake between feeding regimes decreased (2492 versus 2592 g), whereas visits per day, time per visit and feed intake per visit still differed significantly between periodic and continuous feeding regimes (5.7 versus 7.2; 13.5 versus 11.6 min; and 541 versus 467 g, respectively). Differences were also observed for genetic correlations among behavioural traits between the periodic and continuous feeding regimes, e.g. for daily feed intake and feed intake rate with time per visit (0.47 versus –0.07; –0.16 versus –0.57) and with feed intake per visit (0.81 versus 0.17; 0.58 versus –0.08). Based on the present results a continuous feeding regime was recommended in order to avoid the effect of repeated adaptation. This feeding regime also delivers a greater amount of reliable information and increases the accuracy of prediction of feed intake capacity. In case of limited test capacities and measuring feed intake in particular periods, the first two test days of each period with recording should be excluded to obtain more reliable feed intake information.  相似文献
