To improve the efficiency of stocking lakes with vendace (Coregonus albula) larvae, a technique for delaying egg hatching was developed. This synchronizes mass hatching with the development of suitable thermal conditions and food availability in the lake.Water temperatures were measured in Polish hatcheries and a mathematical model of the dependence of C. albula embryogenesis on incubation temperature was utilized to predict the possibilities of delaying egg hatching. Vendace hatching can be delayed by cooling the circulation water (to 1 or 2°C) during March and April. At the beginning of May, when lake conditions are optimal for stocking, the incubation temperature should be raised (at a rate of 1.5°C h?1) to that of the water supply. This ensures mass hatching of strong, normally developed larvae within 2–3 days. This technique facilitates both the delay of vendace hatching at minimal cost and the production of larvae on demand for lake stocking.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to induce ovulation in Asian catfish, Clarias batrachus, by a single injection of SGnRHa (d ‐Arg6, Trp7, Leu8, Pro9, Net) in combination with domperidone. The effects of latency periods, 11, 14, 17, 20 and 23 h, and doses of inducing agent, 10 μg SGnRHa+5 mg domperidone, 20 μg SGnRHa+10 mg domperidone, 30 μg SGnRHa+15 mg domperidone and 40 μg SGnRHa+20 mg domperidone kg?1 body weight, were studied on the total egg output, stripping response, fertilization, hatching and normal larval production. The highest (P<0.05) number of eggs were stripped at 23 h of post injection of 20 μg SGnRHa+10 mg domperidone kg?1 female body weight. The highest (P<0.05) stripping response was observed when the females were stripped at 20 and 23 h latency, at all dose levels of the inducing agent. The eggs stripped at 11 h latency did not fertilize, and hence did not hatch irrespective of administration of any dose levels of the inducing agent. The fertilization and hatching per cent of eggs had significantly increased (P<0.05) with increase in latency period to 14–23 h at a dose of 20 μg SGnRHa+10 mg domperidone. The latency period of 14–17 h, and dose of 20 μg SGnRHa+10 mg domperidone and 30 μg SGnRHa+15 mg domperidone kg?1 of female, was found to be suitable to obtain best spawning performance, and good‐quality egg and larval production in C. batrachus.  相似文献

Pinfish (Lagodon rhomboides Linnaeus) and pigfish (Orthopristis chrysoptera L.) are relatively new, cultured species commonly used as marine baitfish in the south‐eastern United States and currently have no defined protocols for egg incubation. Thus, experiments were conducted to determine efficient egg stocking densities during static and flow‐through incubation that yielded higher quality larvae. Eggs of each species were incubated statically at 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 eggs L?1, and after incubation, egg hatching success, larval survival to first feeding, larval morphometrics and water quality were assessed. Stocking densities above 250 eggs L?1 led to significant reductions in pinfish hatching success and water quality degradation, evident from decreased dissolved oxygen and pH levels and increased nitrogenous wastes. Increased stocking densities for pigfish also resulted in significant water quality degradation, although hatching success was unaffected up to a density of 1000 eggs L?1. A high flow‐through water exchange rate of 2000% daily resulted in significant reductions in nitrogenous wastes and greater stability in dissolved oxygen and pH levels during incubation when compared to static treatments of the same egg density. Additionally, the high exchange rate of 2000% was critical in maintaining high hatching success and larval survival to first feeding at stocking densities of 1000 eggs L?1 for pinfish and up to 4000 eggs L?1 for pigfish. No clear patterns in larval morphometrics were observed among stocking densities. Static incubation densities of 250 and 1000 eggs L?1 are recommended for pinfish and pigfish, respectively.  相似文献

The Pabdah catfish, Ompok pabda, was successfully spawned with the synthetic hormone Ovatide at two different doses (0.4 and 0.6 ml/kg of body weight of female). The latency period was 9–10 h at 0.6 ml compared to 10–12 h at 0.4 ml kg?1 of body weight. All the females spawned successfully. Average rate of fertilization (75.5 %) and hatching (60.5%) was higher with a dose of 0.6 ml kg?1, while lower fertilization (65.1%) and hatching rate (45%) were observed at 0.3 ml kg?1 of body weight. Fecundity ranged from 80–130 eggs gm?1 body weight of female. Eggs hatched between 12–14 h after spawning at a water temperature 28°–32°C. The mean egg diameter was 0.95 ± 0.15 mm.  相似文献

The development to the veliger stage of fertilised ova of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, was compared in raw natural sea water and in sea water pre-treated with various substances. Significantly higher veliger yields were obtained when the water was pre-treated with 1 mg l?1 EDTA. Combinations of EDTA and 20 mg l?1 sodium metasilicate, or 20 mg l?1 alumina, or 50 mg l?1 magnesium trisilicate or 150 mg l?1 Fuller's earth also enhanced development.  相似文献

To prevent surface tension‐related deaths in horse mackerel larvae, Trachurus mediterraneus, camphor grain (CG; 26 and 52 mg L?1 with and without ethanol) and chicken egg white (EW; 40 and 80 μL L?1) were added to rearing water. Compared with the control groups, supplementation of EW (40–80 μL) and CG (52 mg L?1, dissolved in ethanol) significantly improved the survivals of horse mackerel larvae (P<0.05). At the end of the 10 days after hatching, the survival rates of EW‐40 and EW‐80 were 64% and 72% respectively. No clear correlation was found between surface tension and survival rate.  相似文献

Poultry manure added to concrete ponds lined with 5 cm of soil increased fish growth only when applied up to a rate equivalent to 470 kg ha?1 week?1. When manure was supplied at 940 kg ha?1 week?1 fish growth was significantly (P < 0.05) reduced. Parameters which may explain the lower fish growth were electrical conductivity, pH, alkalinity, phosphorus and chlorophyll a production. Dissolved oxygen values fluctuated from 3 to 25 mg l?1 at 04.30 h and 6 and 25 mg l?1 at 14.00 h, and were considered not limiting to fish growth. The results of this study may help explain observed low fish growth in manure-loaded ponds in monoculture in the tropics.  相似文献

Loligo vulgaris is a commercially important squid throughout the Mediterranean region and is a candidate species in biomedical and aquaculture research. Some loligo species (L. opalescens, L. forbesi, Sepiteuthis lessoniana) have now been cultured through some successive generations in closed, recirculating seawater systems. The effects of salinity on hatching European Squid (L. vulgaris Lamarck, 1798) eggs were investigated during November 2004. The egg capsules were incubated directly in salinity of 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42 and 37 g L?1 (control group) at 19.8°C (SD 1.2°C), and a photoperiodicity of 12 h light:12 h dark for 16–23 days before hatching. In all treatments, the eggs were developed and hatched normally after 16–22 days at 32 g L?1, 17–22 days at 34, 18–21 days at 42 g L?1, 18–22 days at 36 and 40 g L?1, 19–22 days at 37 g L?1 and 19–23 h at 38 g L?1. In the experiments, the highest hatching rate and hatching success (HS) of the eggs were obtained at 38 g L?1 (hatching rate: 100% (SD 0%) and HS: 96.7% (SD 3.5%)) and the lowest hatching rate at 42 g L?1 (hatching rate: 3% (SD 6%) and HS: 0%). Dorsal mantle lengths (DML) of new hatchlings ranged from 2.08 to 2.80 mm. The present study showed that salinity affects the hatching rate and HS of eggs and first hatching time and DML of paralarvae in L. vulgaris. The squid eggs at stage 11 (I) can tolerate 5 g L?1 reduction and 3 g L?1 increase in salinity.  相似文献

This study summarizes optimization of techniques for common carp artificial propagation including improvements of activation solution (AS), the process of insemination, and elimination of egg stickiness. The optimum gamete ratio for good fertilization and hatching rate ranged from 8490 to 23 672 spermatozoa per egg, when dechlorinated tap water was used. Optimal ratio between eggs (weight in g) and AS (in ml) was defined as 1:1 to 1:2. Different concentrations of AS such as NaCl from 0 to 34 mM (0–68 mOsmol kg–1) did not change fertilization and hatching rates. An AS adopted for carp spermatozoa (45 mM NaCl, 5 mM KCl, 30 mM Tris–HCl, pH 8) was compared with other saline AS; only the 51 mM (102 mOsmol kg–1) NaCl solution decreased fertilization and hatching rate. The AS containing 20 mM Tris–HCl at pH 9 increased fertilization and hatching rates compared to dechlorinated tap water of pH 7 or to AS of pH 6 and 7. Adhesiveness from the eggs was successfully removed by incubation in Alcalase DX (PLN 04715) using two successive steps with different enzyme concentrations. The first step with an enzyme concentration of 2 ml l–1 was applied from 8 to 20 min after fertilization. Later in a second step, the best time for application of alcalase enzyme at a concentration of 20 ml l–1 was for 45 and 60 s at 20 min after fertilization leading to fertilization and hatching rates of 80–87%. The α-Chymotrypsin (EC 3.4.21.1. Merck) was also found effective for elimination of stickiness. Results with α-Chymotrypsin enzyme indicate that the response to success in elimination of stickiness is highly variable mainly due to differences in the environment, quality of water and carp strains.  相似文献

Mature Brazilian flounders Paralichthys orbignyanus were captured in coastal southern Brazil and their reproduction in captivity was studied. Brazilian flounder will spawn naturally in captivity when the water temperature is around 23 °C and 14 h of light is provided daily. Females were induced for ovulation and hand stripping using human chorionic gonadotropin, luteinizing hormone‐releasing hormone analogue or carp pituitary extract. There was no need to inject males, as running milt was observed during the spawning season. Fertilization and hatching rates were above 80% independent of the hormone used. Notochord length at hatching was 2.18±0.07 mm for larvae hatching from naturally spawned eggs. Larvae were reared in salt water (30–35 g L?1) at 24 °C and under continuous illumination. Larviculture was with green water (Tetraselmis tetrathele 50 × 104 cells mL?1). Rotifers (10–20 ind mL?1) were offered as first food 3 days after hatching and gradually replaced by Artemia nauplii (0.5–10 ind mL?1). Larvae settled to the bottom 20 days after hatching and completed metamorphosis within a week after that. The total length for newly metamorphosed juveniles was 12.9±2.2 mm and the mean survival was 44.8%. The results demonstrate the feasibility of producing Brazilian flounder fingerlings for stock enhancement or grow‐out purposes.  相似文献

The studies conducted in 2003–2004 focused on the possibilities of applying a tannic solution to remove adhesiveness from pikeperch eggs. Spawners were caught in Lake P?tnowskie (central Poland) and then transported to the Gos?awice Fish Farm. After initial selection, the fish were weighed, measured and stimulated with human chorionic gonadotropin. Gametes were obtained 5 days after the first injection. The weight and diameter of the eggs, and the commercial fecundity of individual females were determined. The eggs were fertilized with the dry method. After the addition of water, the eggs were mixed for 4 min, and then divided into 20 g portions. After determining the number of eggs in the various portions, the adhesiveness removal procedure was performed. Three concentrations of tannic acid solution (500, 1000, 1500 mg L?1) and three exposure times (0.5, 2, 5 min) were applied. The eggs were incubated in Weiss jars. The studies indicated that both the solution concentration and the exposure time significantly (P<0.05) impacted pikeperch egg hardening, the degree of adhesive removal and embryo survival. The tannic acid solution concentration of ≤500 mg L?1 applied for 0.5–2 min was not effective; the eggs clumped and it was impossible to separate them even with intensive mixing. Better results were obtained using higher tannic acid concentrations and/or by lengthening exposure time. The adhesiveness of pikeperch eggs disappeared completely after 5 min exposure to tannic acid solution concentrations of 500–1500 mg L?1 or after 2 min exposure to solution concentrations of 1000–1500 mg L?1. In these variants, the embryo survival rate to the eyed‐egg stage was 78.0–84.0% (2003) and 82.3–84.7% (2004). However, high tannic acid concentration had a negative impact on the pikeperch larvae hatching. The greatest decrease in survival rate was observed in groups exposed to a tannic acid solution of 1500 mg L?1 for 2 and 5 min periods. Thus, the optimum method for removing pikeperch egg adhesiveness was to apply a solution of tannic acid at a concentration of 500 mg L?1 for 5 min or 1000 mg L?1 for 2–5 min.  相似文献

The survival of milkfish broodstock (body weight range 1–11 kg) was determined until 30 days after handling and transport in open tanks or in sealed oxygenated bags containing chilled sea water (20–25 °C). Maintenance of cool sea water was achieved by the gradual addition of ice chunks or frozen gel packs. A survival rate of 50% after transporting fish at a loading density of 45 kg m?3 for 4 h in open tanks was not significantly different from those that were handled but not transported (86%). Similarly, survival rates (67–83%) among broodstock confined for 8 h in chilled sea water at 40 and 60 kg m?3 were not significantly different from each other or from a group not subjected to confinement. Nevertheless, low dissolved oxygen (DO) and accumulation of total ammonia–nitrogen beginning 1 h after transport and confinement may be responsible for low survival rates of milkfish in open tanks. In contrast, all milkfish survived 10 h of overland transport in sealed bags with chilled and diluted (28 g L?1) sea water. Likewise, all milkfish survived after being bagged and immediately transferred to a communal rearing tank, or bagged and placed in a styrofoam box for 10 h. Except for total ammonia–nitrogen levels, which increased slightly (0.7–0.8 mg L?1) above background, seawater temperature (20–24 °C), salinity (28 g L?1) and DO (6 to > 20 mg mL?1) titres in transport bags were maintained during the 10‐h test. The effectiveness of handling and transporting milkfish broodstock in sealed bags containing chilled sea water was verified in actual field trials. Spawning of sexually mature milkfish subjected to these stressors was not impaired. These results demonstrate that mortalities of large milkfish broodstock can be minimized when fish are handled and transported in sealed oxygenated bags containing chilled sea water.  相似文献

The effects of a single injection of mammalian superactive analogue [d ‐Ser(tBu)6,Pro9‐NEt]‐LHRHa (20 μg/ kg?1) combined with the dopamine antagonist, haloperidol (HAL, 0.5 mg kg?1), for induction of ovulation in the koi carp broodstocks were determined under routine hatchery conditions. The results were compared with classic carp pituitary extract (CPE, double injection) application (water temperature 22 °C). Physiological saline (0.7% NaCl)‐injected fish were used as a control group and no ovulation occurred in this group. The spawning ratio was high in the LHRHa+HAL treatment group and in the CPE treatment group (6/7 and 5/7 respectively). The latency period was 14–16 h in the LHRHa+HAL treatment group and 12–14 h in the CPE treatment group (after the second injection). There was no difference between the two ovulating groups with respect to the spawning index (the weight of eggs as a percentage of female body weight) and fertilization rate of eggs (P>0.05). As a result, ovulation can be induced successfully in koi carp broodstocks with 20 μg kg?1 [d ‐Ser(tBu)6,Pro9‐NEt]‐LHRHa+0.5 mg kg?1 HAL treatment in a single injection without decreasing the egg quality. Application of this combination can be useful for hatchery and broodstock management in koi carp culture.  相似文献

Infestations of parasitic monogenean trematodes (Lepidotrema bidyana and Gyrodactylus sp.) on freshwater silver perch (Bidyanus bidyanus Mitchell) in earthen ponds were treated with formalin (37% formaldehyde). Concentrations of 30 and 40 mg L?1 formalin were effective, but fish in ponds treated with 20 or 25 mg L?1 remained infested. At temperatures of 24.1–26.9°C, concentrations of 30 or 40 mg L?1 formalin caused dissolved oxygen (DO) to decline from 10.1–11.9 to 3.0–3.3 and 1.2–1.7 mg L?1, respectively, within 36–42 h of treatment. In addition, pH declined from 7.2–8.4 to 6.3–6.7, within 36 h and turbidity decreased over 48 h. In the ponds where DO was 1.2–1.7 mg L?1, silver perch showed signs of severe stress, but continuous aeration (10 hp ha?1) for 3 days and inflow of well‐oxygenated water for 6–8 h prevented mortalities. At temperatures of 13.2–15.7°C, concentrations of 30 or 40 mg L?1 formalin caused DO to decline from 9.0–10.0 to 6.0–8.1 mg L?1 and pH from 7.0–7.3 to 5.9–6.6 within 72 h. Total ammonia‐nitrogen increased over 72 h in ponds treated with 30 or 40 mg L?1 formalin. Fish became re‐infested with L. bidyana in all ponds within 30 days of treatment. A concentration of 30 mg L?1 formalin is recommended as a treatment for monogeneans on silver perch in ponds, but aeration is necessary to maintain adequate water quality at higher temperatures.  相似文献

This study compared the larval performance of matrinxã, Brycon amazonicus, after maternal triiodothyronine (T3) injection or egg immersion of T3. In the first experiment, three groups of females (n=4) induced to spawning received pituitary extract (CPE) and a corn oil injection (control), or CPE plus 10 mg or 20 mg kg?1 bw T3 dissolved in corn oil (experimental). Larvae were sampled for body weight and length measurement at hatching (0 h) and 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 h thereafter. Hatching time, hatching success and abnormal development were monitored. In the second experiment, fertilized eggs from four females were immersed in T3 solutions (0, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.10 mg L?1) and larvae were sampled at hatching (0 h) and 6, 18, 30, 42, 54, 126 and 198 h thereafter. Hatching time was not affected by either means of hormone treatment. Abnormalities decreased as the T3 concentration increased in larvae from T3‐treated broodfish but the number of dead larvae increased proportionally. Larvae from T3‐injected females had higher weight from 24 h after hatching and greater length from hatching, while the weight of larvae produced from T3‐immersed eggs changed at 198 h and length from 126 h of rearing. Both routes of T3 administration affected the early growth of matrinxã but the effect was observed earlier when broodstock females were injected.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of acute stress and cortisol injection on oocyte final maturation process in female Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Handling followed by a prophylactic treatment (0.3?mL?L?1 H2O2, 5?g?L?1 NaCl solution during 30?min) and an environmental change (transfer from a 2?m3 fibreglass square tank to 50?L aquaria) were used as acute stressors and compared to a single cortisol injection (0.5 or 5?mg?kg?1 body weight). For both acute stress and cortisol injection (0.5?mg?kg?1 body weight), serum cortisol level was significantly increased from 2.3 to 134.1?ng?mL?1 1?h post-stress/injection and returned to a resting basal value 24?h after the stress/injection. In fish injected with 5?mg?kg?1 body weight cortisol, mean serum cortisol level reached a peak up to 2500?ng?mL?1 1?h after injection. 63?% of the females (mean body weight: 242?±?4?g) submitted to the acute stress ovulated within 72?h after the stress. In the same way, cortisol injection (5?mg?kg?1 body weight) at the 10th day of the maturation cycle led to a twofold reduction of the time before ovulation compared to vehicle injected control fish. Relative and total fecundity were significantly decreased in females submitted to an acute stress or cortisol injected at 5?mg?kg?1 body weight, but not fertilization or hatching rates. In conclusion, acute stress and cortisol induction exert both positive and negative effects on the final reproductive process in O. niloticus, and cortisol is the endocrine mediator causing these changes.  相似文献

Water quality and plankton densities were monitored in shrimp ponds at 12 mixed shrimp‐mangrove forestry farms in Ca Mau province, southern Vietnam, to detail basic water chemistry and assess whether conditions are suitable for shrimp culture. In general, water quality was not optimal for shrimp culture. In particular, ponds were shallow (mean ± 1SE, 50.5 ± 2.8 cm), acidic (pH < 6.5), had high suspended solids (0.3 ± 0.03 g l?1), low chlorophyll a/phytoplankton concentrations (0.2 ± 0.05 µg l?1 and 8600 ± 800 cells l?1 respectively) and low dissolved oxygen (DO) levels (3.7 ± 0.15 mg l?1). Eight out of the 12 farms sampled had potentially acid sulphate soils (pH < 4.2). Salinity, DO and pH were highly variable over short time‐periods (hours); DO in particular was reduced to potentially lethal levels (1–2 mg l?1). Seasonal variations in water chemistry and plankton communities (i.e. salinity, DO, phosphate, temperature, phytoplankton and zooplankton densities) appear to be driven by differences in rainfall patterns. The presence or absence of mangroves on internal pond levees (‘mixed’ versus ‘separate’ farms) and the source of pond water (rivers versus canals) were of lesser importance in determining water quality patterns and plankton biomass. Zooplankton and macrobenthos densities were sufficient to support the current (low) stocking densities of shrimp. However, natural food sources are not adequate to support increases in production by stocking hatchery reared post larvae. Increasing productivity by fertilization and/or supplemental feeding has the potential for adverse water quality and would require improvements to water management practices. Some practical strategies for improving water quality and plankton densities are outlined.  相似文献

The inactivation effect of chlorine, iodine, ozone and UV irradiation was compared between phosphate buffered saline and waste water collected from a fish farm, with the fish-pathogenic bacterium Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida as the model organism. In addition, the effect of combining chlorine, iodine or ozone with UV was evaluated. A tenfold increase in initial chlorine concentration, from 0.2 to 2.0 mg l?1. had to be applied to maintain the same level of inactivation in waste water as in PBS. Iodine was less efficient than chlorine in PBS. by demanding a concentration of 1.0 mg l?1 to obtain the same rate of inactivation as with 0.2 mg l?1 chlorine. However, no difference between the two halogens was evident in the low-quality water. An initial ozone concentration of 0.1 mg l?1 in PBS caused a rapid drop in bacterial viability for the first 20 s after which the curve levelled off. By continuous ozonation of waste water, a residual oxidant concentration of about 0.3 mg l?1 had to be established before a rapid inactivation was observed. The UV inactivation profiles in PBS and waste water were almost identical, with a 99.9% reduction in viability after 48 and 50 s. respectively. When UV irradiation was combined with chlorine, a less than additive effect, as compared with the sum of individual death rates by the two treatments, was observed. The corresponding UV/iodine combination at least gave an additive effect in both water qualities. No increment in inactivation rate in PBS was observed when ozone was used in combination with UV, as compared with ozone alone.  相似文献

Experiments over three years, in a pond of approximately 1500 m2, to intensify production at high stocking densities with controlled feeding resulted in a substantial increase in yield (weight gain per hectare and year: 2·6 tonne for C3–4, 9·1 tonne for C2–3, 15·4 tonne for C1–2). At the same time water requirement could be reduced to 4 m3 kg?1 fish produced. However, the stocking densities achieved resulted in a continuously increasing eutrophication effect which expressed itself in mass development of phytoplankton. This led to considerable diurnal fluctuations in oxygen concentration (0·5–20·0 mg O2 litre?1) and total ammonia (0–11·0 mg NH3NH4+ litre?1; maximum of 1·5 mg NH3 litre?1). The high stocking density contributed indirectly to the diurnal fluctuations (fertilization through faeces and lost feeds). However, its contribution to the overall oxygen depletion amounted to less than 25% at night. The amplitude of the fluctuation was mainly determined by the photosynthetic and respiratory activity of the phytoplankton and by microbiological degradation processes. With increasing water temperature during summer, increasing feeding rate, continuous fish biomass increment, and decreasing light period per day and danger of total fish stock mortality was greatest in August. Only at maximum photosynthetic activity during daylight was the total ammonia production in the pond adequately counteracted and sufficient oxygen produced. Even heavy aeration could not always successfully provide for oxygen during night. In order to avoid a breakdown of the system, algae and nutrients had to be diluted from time to time by excessive water replacement. Despite the temporary overloading of the pond system, losses in numbers had been kept below 6·5% (normally: 10–20%).Pellets were offered via self-feeding devices. Food uptake was continuously recorded. No diurnal feeding rhythmic could be observed, but feeding activity was entirely dependent on oxygen levels in pond water. Feed conversion efficiencies reached values between 1·96 and 2·48.  相似文献

A reliable breeding technique was developed for the mangrove red snapper, Lutjanus argentimaculatus (Forsskal 1775), to help sustain the aquaculture of this immensely popular species in Southeast Asia. Using standardized indices of female maturity (based on mean oocyte diameter of ≥0.40 mm), time of injection (1000–1130) and sex ratio (one female to two males), a single injection of 100 μg kg?1 luteinizing hormone‐releasing hormone analogue (LHRHa) (n=16 fish), but not 50 μg kg?1 (n=five fish), successfully induced egg (62.5% success rate) and larval (43.8%) production. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) at 500 IU kg?1 (n=five fish) also failed to induce spawning, but doses of 1000 (n=22 fish) and 1500 IU kg?1 (n=15 fish) gave spawning (77.3% and 80.0% respectively) and hatching success rates (72.7% and 60.0% respectively) that were not significantly different from those of 100 μg kg?1 LHRHa. No spawning was observed in saline‐injected controls (n=seven fish). While mean spawning latency, egg diameter, egg production per spawn, percent egg viability, hatching rate, percent of normal larvae and cumulative survival of eggs to normal larvae did not differ significantly among the effective hormones and doses, 1000 IU kg?1 hCG had a higher percentage (76.5%) of total spawns with egg production per spawn in excess of one million than those of 1500 IU kg?1 hCG (50.0%) and 100 μg kg?1 LHRHa (40.0%). Mangrove red snapper spontaneously spawned from March–April to November–December with a peak of egg collection and spawning in May–June. Egg collection per spawn ranged from 0.05 to 6.35 million. Spontaneous spawning of mangrove red snapper exhibited lunar periodicity with spawns mostly occurring 3 days before or after the last quarter and new moon phases and occurred consistently between 02:00 and 04:00 hours. High fecundity and good egg quality, coupled with the ability to respond to induce spawning or natural spawning in captivity, provide a sound basis for improving the sustainability of red snapper aquaculture in Southeast Asia.  相似文献
