Various management practices (e.g. wilting, application of silage additives or adding a grass component) can be used to improve silage fermentation of pure red clover (Trifolium pratense L.). Therefore, the aim of this laboratory ensiling study was to investigate the effects of varying proportions of red clover and perennial ryegrass (100/0, 66/33, 33/66, 0/100) on silage quality during two consecutive years. In addition, two wilting levels [target dry matter (DM): 300 vs. 400 g kg?1] in combination with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) additives were tested. Herbage was ensiled, either untreated or inoculated with homofermentative LAB (low wilted) or homo‐ and heterofermentative LAB (high wilted). In most cases, lactic and acetic acid decreased as the proportions of ryegrass were increased. Data concerning ammonia‐N concentrations showed considerable differences between cuts and years. Silages treated with homofermentative LAB generally had high lactic acid and low final pH, whereas acetic acid and 1,2‐propanediol tended to be higher when homo‐ and heterofermentative LAB were applied. Inoculants had a positive effect on DM losses and ammonia‐N in only a few silages. Wilting decreased DM losses and fermentation acids at most cuts, irrespective of the grass/clover ratio in the herbage mixture. There was a strong year effect on the organic matter digestibility (DOM) of the silages. In conclusion, the optimal strategy for successful silage fermentation of red clover is the ensiling in mixtures with ryegrass. Furthermore, herbage should be wilted to a DM content of about 300–350 g kg?1. The application of LAB inoculants did not alter the DOM but did improve silage fermentation.  相似文献

The effects of harvest date of timothy on the chemical composition of herbage and silage, and on the voluntary intake, liveweight gain and feed conversion efficiency by finishing lambs, were evaluated. The herbage was harvested and ensiled on three dates: 16 June (before heading), 20 June and 26 June. The silages were analysed for chemical composition and degradation characteristics by an in vitro gas production (GP) technique with end-point measurements (72 h) of degradability of organic matter (OM) and neutral-detergent fibre (NDF). There were clear effects of later dates of harvest increasing the concentration of NDF, and reducing the degradability of OM and NDF, and the rate of GP, of silages made from this herbage. The silages were fed ad libitum to lambs in a feeding experiment using a Latin square design. Later harvest dates decreased the voluntary intake of silage, liveweight gain and feed conversion efficiency. Lambs fed the early-cut silage had a liveweight gain of 152 g d−1 and those fed the silage harvested 10 d later had a liveweight gain of 76 g d−1. Changes in the chemical composition of herbage and silage and in in vitro degradation characteristics of silages with later harvests were associated, to a large extent, with the reduction in voluntary intake and liveweight gain of lambs.  相似文献

Two diets were compared: perennial ryegrass ( Lolium perenne L.) silage and perennial ryegrass/white clover ( Trifolium repens L.) silage, in each case fed ad libitum , without supplementation, to lactating dairy cows. The comparison was made with silages cut on each of four dates. The crops were wilted to a dry matter content of at least 256g kg-1 and no additives were used.
The grass/clover silages were well preserved at all four cuts. The grass was well preserved at three cuts, but, at a May cut, the grass silage was less well preserved and less digestible than the grass/clover silage. When the May silages were fed, milk yield was higher with grass/clover than with grass. Taking the experiment as a whole, however, milk yield and composition were similar on the two diets. The grass/clover silages had a lower proportion of cell wall and their intake by dairy cows was consistently higher than that of the grass silages.
It is concluded that perennial ryegrass/white clover crops can be ensiled successfully and fed successfully, with high intake, to lactating dairy cows, but it should not be assumed that cows will give more milk than when fed equivalent all-grass silage.  相似文献

Seven laboratory-scale experiments were carried out to study the effects of cellulases/hemicellulases on silage fermentation of herbage from mixed swards of timothy ( Phleum pratense ), meadow fescue ( Festuca pratensis ) and red clover ( Trifolium pretense ). Enzyme-treated silage (approximately 3500 HEC units kg−1 grass) reached a low pH sooner, had lower end pH, contained less NH3-N and more lactic acid than did the untreated silage ( P < 0·05). Applied with an inoculant, these effects were even stronger. With easily ensiled crops (experiments 1, 2, 5 and 6) preservation was first of all improved by inoculation of lactic acid bacteria; however, for the low-sugar crops (experiments 3, 4 and 7) enzyme treatment was more significant. The enzymes derived from Aspergillus spp. gave more acetic acid than the enzymes from Trichoderma reesei. The Trichoderma enzymes liberated 4·8 g WSC kg−1 FM gamma-irradiated grass during 60 d at pH 4·3 ( P < 0·05). On average, for all silages enzyme treatment increased the sum of residual sugar and fermentation products by 3·7 g kg−1 FM (21 g kg−1 DM) compared with the silages not treated with enzymes ( P < 0·001). Enzyme treatment increased the instantly degradable part of the feed, but total in sacco and in vitro digestibilities were not affected.  相似文献

Tetraploid red clover (cv. Hungaropoly) was sown at seed rates of 6,12 or 18 kg ha?1 alone and in mixture with timothy (cv. Scots) at 2, 4 or 6 kg ha?1 or with tall fescue (cv. S170) at 6,12 or 18 kg ha?1. Two ‘silage’ crops and an ‘aftermath grazing’ crop were harvested in 2 successive years. In harvest years 1 and 2, total herbage production levels of 11.12 and 7.47 t dry matter (DM) ha?1 respectively were obtained from pure-sown red clover compared with 11.84 and 8.78 t DM ha?1 for red clover-timothy and 12.23 and 9.64 t DM ha?1 for red clover-tall fescue. Corresponding red clover production levels were 10.93 and 5.30 t DM ha?1 (red clover swards), 8.04 and 3.131 ha?1 (red clover-timothy), and 6.42 and 109 t ha?1 (red clover-tall fescue). Total herbage organic matter digestibility was improved by the timothy companion grass but not consistently by the tall fescue, whereas crude protein (CP) concentration was decreased by the addition of either grass. Increased seed rate intensified these effects, as well as the general effect of the companion grass in depressing red clover DM, digestible organic matter (DOM) and CP production. Total herbage DM, DOM and CP were not markedly affected by increasing red clover seed rate but red clover DM, DOM and CP were increased as red clover seed rate was raised, due to increases in the red clover component. The potential for silage cropping of red clover swards was confirmed but there was advantage in sowing a companion grass. Taking yield and quality parameters into consideration, timothy proved a better companion than tall fescue. A seed rate of 2 or 4 kg ha?1 timothy and 12 kg ha?1 red clover proved the most satisfactory.  相似文献

Mown herbage of timothy–meadow fescue (dry matter 218 (LDM) or 539 (HDM) g kg?1) was ensiled in laboratory silos to evaluate silage additives. For LDM silage, additives including formic acid (a blend of formic acid, sodium formate, propionic acid, benzoic acid, glycerol and another blend of formic acid and ammonium formate, both applied at 5 L t?1) were able to restrict fermentation and thereby improve intake potential of the silage. Aerobic stability (AS) of total mixed ration (TMR) was also improved. LDM grass treated with homofermentative lactic acid bacteria (hoLAB) resulted in silage containing lactic acid at 132 g kg?1 DM, ammonium‐N <40 g kg?1 total N, and pH < 3·8, and the AS was poor (<36 h). The treatment including heterofermentative strain (Lactobacillus brevis) produced more acetic acid and better AS than hoLAB. Salt treatment (sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, sodium nitrite) reduced pH compared to the Control treatment (3·89 vs. 4·24) and improved AS of TMR. The LDM Control silage had good AS, but the TMR based on it had poor AS. All additives were able to lower pH on HDM silages also, but other benefits of using additives were minimal. Four experiments compared seven additives for ensiling high-moisture, leafy grass/clover awards in small tower-silos. The additives were ammonium bisulphate, ammonium monohydrogen phosphate, silotracin, molasses, molassine meal, kylage and protosil 3. In all experiments, silages made with additives were compared with control silages. Apart from molasses, additives had little effect on silage quality: DM and N losses were only slightly reduced by additives. In terms of weight of DM recovered for animal feeding, the additives ranked as follows: molasses and molassine meal > silotracin > ammonium bisulphate, ammonium monohydrogen phosphate, and controls; molasses kylage, protosil 3 and controls.  相似文献

Data are few on concentrations of nitrogen (N) in the cell wall and lignocellulose (neutral- and acid-detergent fibre (NDF and ADF), respectively) of herbage. Herbage N can be partitioned into neutral- and acid-detergent soluble and insoluble N to crudely estimate rapidly degradable (N soluble in neutral detergent), slowly degradable (neutral-detergent fibre N (NDFN) minus acid-detergent fibre N (ADFN), herein termed available fibre N (AFN)), and indigestible N (ADFN) in the rumen. Our objective was to examine the effects of herbage species, maturity stage, and plant part on N in the NDF and ADF of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.), red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), timothy (Phleum pratense L.), and smooth bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.). Herbage was harvested at four 2-week intervals during spring of 1984 and 1985. Leaves, stems and total herbage were analysed for total N, and N in NDF and ADF. Concentrations of N in ADF in leaves, stems, and total herbage of lucerne and clover were twice that of grass ADF. This may be due to greater lignin concentrations generally reported in legumes. Concentrations of NDFN in leaves of lucerne, clover, timothy, and bromegrass were 9–8, 26.4, 8.6, and 6.4 g kg?1 of NDF, respectively, averaged over harvests and years, whereas stem concentrations were 4.2, 4.6, 32, and 2.4 g kg?1 of NDF, respectively. Leaf concentrations of ADFN in lucerne, clover, timothy, and bromegrass were 4.6, 5.3, 20, and 1.6 g kg?1 of ADF, respectively, averaged over harvests and years, whereas stem concentrations were 3.4, 33, 14, and 14 g kg-’of ADF, respectively. As a proportion of the total N, NDFN and ADFN increased with plant maturity in leaves, stems, and herbage. In stems, 49% of NDFN was ADFN, whereas in leaves only 21% of the NDFN was ADFN. The larger portion of ADFN in stems probably reflects the larger proportion of lignified xylem and other structural tissues, which have a greater proportion of lignified secondary cell walls, whereas the greater proportion of NDFN in leaves may mirror the greater amount of mesophyll cells with primary cell walls. More than 80% of the total N in leaves, stems, and herbage was in the cell solubles, which may be rapidly ruminally degradable.  相似文献

Pure perennial ryegrass or perennial ryegrass/white clover mixtures (70:30 and 40:60 on a fresh-matter basis) were ensiled in laboratory silos either untreated or alter treatment with freshly cultured Lactobacillus (Lb.) plantarun or freshly cultured Lb. plantarum plus Lactococcus (Lc.) lactis. freeze-dried Lb. plantarum or freeze-dried Lb. Plantarum plus sodium formate, sodium formate or formic acid. The effect of these additives on silage fermentation characteristics and quality of the resultant silages was examined. There were significant interactions between treatments and herbages for all silage quality parameters measured, except for acetic acid concentration. The influence of additives on the final pH of all silages was small but statistically significant. Lactic acid concentration was not directly related to herbage mixture, overall mean values ranging from 118 to 120 ± 1.5 g kg?1 dry matter (DM), but wider variation was seen between treatments for individual herbage mixtures. Acetic acid concentrations were significantly (P<0·001) affected by herbage mixture ensiled, increasing linearly as clover content increased from zero to 60%. Untreated control and formic acid-treated silages contained significantly (p<0·001) higher acetic acid concentrations than those treated with other additives. Silage ammonia N concentrations were significantly (p<0 001) influenced by herbage mixture. Lowest ammonia N concentrations (< 50 g kg?1 DM) were observed in silages that had been treated with formic acid, freshly cultured Lb. plantarum or Lb. plantarum plus Lc. lactis. The fraction 1 leaf protein (FILP) contents of silages were significantly (P <0·001) affected by both treatment and herbage mixture, with consistently and significantly higher values found in freshly cultured inoculant-treated silages. A poor correlation (r2= 0·12) existed between ammonia N and FILP in all silages. The inclusion of up to 60% white clover in the ensiled herbage did not adversely affect final silage quality. However, additive treatment markedly influenced the residual FILP content of silages, those treated with freshly cultured inoculants having the highest values.  相似文献

Scenarios of global climate change forecast an increase in air temperature of 3°C over the next 100 years in eastern Canada. Growth and nutritive value of cool‐season grasses are known to be affected by air temperature. It is also believed that grasses grown at high latitude have a greater nutritive value. The objectives of this study were to assess the effect of four combinations of day/night temperature and photoperiod (15 h–17/5°C; 15 h–22/10°C; 15 h–28/15°C; and 17 h‐17/5°C) on dry‐matter (DM) yield, in vitro true DM digestibility (IVTD), in vitro digestibility of neutral‐detergent fibre (NDF), and concentrations of NDF, acid‐detergent fibre (ADF), lignin, minerals and non‐structural carbohydrates (NSC) in timothy grown under controlled conditions. Furthermore, herbage was harvested in the morning and in the afternoon to assess the impact of the time of harvest. The dietary cation–anion difference [DCAD = (K+ + Na+) ? (Cl? + 0·6 S2?)] and the grass tetany index [GT index = K+/(Ca2+ + Mg2+)] were also calculated. Higher temperature regimes significantly decreased IVTD and digestibility of NDF but had a limited effect on concentrations of NDF, ADF and lignin. DM yield of herbage was less and the concentration of NSC was greater in timothy grown under a temperature regime of 28/15°C than the 17/5°C and 22/10°C regimes; this effect is mainly explained by a response to temperature stress. Values of DCAD and the GT index of herbage were also lower under the 28/15°C than the 17/5°C and 22/10°C regimes as a result of a decreased plant K concentration. Under the 17/5°C regime, an increase in 2 h of photoperiod resulted in increased DM yield, decreased concentrations of K, Ca, Mg, Cl and N, and an increased starch concentration; IVTD or digestibility of NDF were not affected, although lignin concentration was reduced. Harvesting timothy in the afternoon rather than in the morning resulted in higher NSC, mainly sucrose, concentrations, and decreased ADF and NDF concentrations. The forecasted increase in air temperature in eastern Canada over the next 100 years will result in lower yields and nutritive value of timothy.  相似文献

Effects of wilting, ensiling and type of additive on α‐tocopherol and β‐carotene contents in legume–grass mixtures were examined. Swards of birdsfoot trefoil + timothy (Bft + Ti), red clover + timothy (Rc + Ti) and red clover + meadow fescue (Rc + Mf) were harvested as a first regrowth in August 2005. Forage was wilted to a dry‐matter (DM) content of 273 g kg?1 and ensiled without additive or with an inoculant or acid. Wilting decreased α‐tocopherol concentration by 30% in the Bft + Ti mixture (P = 0·015). Untreated Bft + Ti silage had higher α‐tocopherol content than red clover silages (56·9 vs. 34·2 mg kg?1 DM; P = 0·015). The α‐tocopherol concentration of Bft + Ti forages increased during ensiling from 41·1 mg kg?1 DM in wilted herbage to 56·9, 65·2 and 56·8 mg kg?1 DM in untreated, inoculated and acid‐treated silage respectively (P = 0·015). The inoculant increased α‐tocopherol content in the red clover silages (50·1 vs. 34·2 mg kg?1 DM; P = 0·015) compared with untreated red clover silages. Red clover mixtures had lower β‐carotene content than Bft + Ti (32·3 vs. 46·2 mg kg?1 DM; P = 0·016), averaged over treatments. In conclusion, wilting had small effects but the use of bacterial inoculant as an additive and a Bft + Ti mixture increased α‐tocopherol concentration in the silage.  相似文献

There is a lack of information on the effects of companion species in grass–legume mixtures on herbage yield and quality changes during prolonged growth. Such information is relevant for harvest planning and estimation of consequences for feeding value of conserved feed when harvesting is delayed. Perennial ryegrass was sown with each of four legumes: red clover, white clover, lucerne and birdsfoot trefoil, and white clover was sown with hybrid ryegrass, meadow fescue and timothy. Effects of species composition on herbage yield, contents of N, neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and lignin, ash and in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) were studied in entire herbage and in component species during 2 years in a small‐plot cutting trial in Denmark. In May and August, the dynamic development of components of feed value and their interrelationships were investigated by sampling at optimum harvest date (i.e., normal practice) ± 1 week (t = ?1 to t = +1). Herbage digestibility and contents of N and ash decreased while those of fibre compounds increased during the 2 weeks from t = ?1 to t = 1 in all species. In May, contents of ADF and lignin increased at a faster rate in legumes than in grasses; in August, NDF and ADF increased most quickly in legumes. Generally, N contents and IVOMD declined at similar rates in grasses and legumes, but, within each group, differences in yield and quality development occurred among species. The relationship between weekly growth rate and change in quality parameters differed among species and functional groups, i.e., grasses and legumes. Results are discussed in the context of quantifying the impact of delaying the harvest date of grass–legume mixtures and relationships between productivity and components of feed quality.  相似文献

Red clover (Trifolium pratense) grown in mixtures with grasses often constitutes a lower proportion of total yield in spring than in summer growth. A more even red clover proportion between the harvests would benefit forage quality and management at feeding. We investigated whether inclusion of early versus late‐maturing red clover varieties could reduce this disproportionality. In a two‐year field trial harvested three times per season, each of six red clover varieties was grown in two grass mixtures. Rate of phenological development did not differ during spring growth, but did so in regrowth after first and second cuts. Here, the earliest varieties constituted the highest proportion. At all harvests, the early varieties had lower crude protein concentrations and a higher content of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and indigestible NDF than the late varieties. Clover proportion was higher in swards with a mixture of timothy and meadow fescue than in swards with perennial ryegrass during the first year and lower in the second year. It is concluded that developmental rate should be explored further as a key character for red clover competiveness in spring growth of rapidly elongating grasses.  相似文献

RESEARCH NOTE     
Data from twenty-two experiments conducted at tour ADAS Research Centres during 1980–92 were used to compare untreated silages with silages treated with formic acid, with or without added formalin, commercial inoculants or molasses. The sillages were made from herbage whose dry-matter (DM) and water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) contents were 277 (s.e. 0.46) g DM kg−1 and 36 (s.e. 8.1) g kg−1 respectively. Inoculant use significantly decreased silage pH and ammonia-N, significantly increased lactic acid and total acid content, and decreased butyric acid and total short-chain fatty acids. Formic acid use significantly increased silage lactic acid and total acid content, and decreased butyric acid content, whereas formic acid+formalin significantly decreased silage ammonia-N level. Molasses had little effect upon silage fermentation. Improvements in silage fermentation, however, produced little benefit in terms of either silage DM intake or liveweight gain when the silages were offered to growing lambs.
It is suggested from the results that inoculant- and formic acid-based additives can be used to improve the fermentation of big-bale silages.  相似文献

Studies were conducted to characterize sward dynamics of lucerne ( Medicago sativa L.) and perennial, Italian or short rotation hybrid rye-grass ( Lolium perenne L. and L. multiflorum Lam.) binary mixtures under hay management. Lucerne/timothy ( Phleum pratense L.) mixtures were included as controls. The study was conducted on two farms in central Pennsylvania, USA on Hagerstown silt loams (fine, mixed, mesic hapludalf). Total dry matter yield, grass yield and yield of digestible dry matter were higher for tetraploid perennial and tetraploid Italian ryegrass mixtures than for timothy mixtures. Seasonal production differed for the three kinds of ryegrass. Italian ryegrass dry matter yields were higher in cuts 2 and 3 than perennial ryegrass yields. Grass yields represented 34%, 24% and 12% of total yields of the Italian, perennial or short rotation, and timothy mixtures, respectively. However, herbage in vitro dry matter digestibility of Italian was lower than that of perennial ryegrass.
The tetraploid perennial ryegrasses Grimalda and Reveille had high-ranking N concentrations more frequently than other cultivars, while Bar-vestra and Reveille tetraploid perennials and Bison short rotation ryegrass had high-ranking dry matter digestibility values more frequently than the other cultivars. Perennial ryegrass cultivars and Lipo tetraploid Italian ryegrass persisted well for 4 years and produced higher yields with a lower weed content than timothy mixtures. It is concluded that perennial ryegrasses and Lipo Italian ryegrass should be recommended over timothy, as companion grasses with lucerne.  相似文献

The performance of timothy in mixtures with perennial ryegrass was assessed under a simulated intensive grazing management over two harvest years in 1974–75. Three seed rates of S23 perennial ryegrass were factorially combined with three rates of Scots timothy and compared with pure stands of each grass. All were sown with Huia white clover. When cut six times at monthly intervals and with an annual N input of 350 kg ha?1, there were no significant differences in total DM production in either year. The 2-year mean DM yield for the nine mixtures and six pure swards was 9·77 t ha?1 (range 9·34–10·16). Compared with the pure ryegrass swards, in both years the ryegrass-timothy mixtures produced earlier spring growth but were significantly lower yielding at the second cut. Over the first five cuts the proptortion of timothy in the three mixtures with 22·4 kg ha?1 ryegrass seed averaged 26% in the first year and 37% in the second. Corresponding calculated mean DM yields of timothy were 2·75 and 3·00 t ha?1. It is concluded that an early timothy variety is capable of competing with a late-heading perennial ryegrass in frequently cut swards managed to simulate intensive grazing. The strong development of timothy in the dry summer of 1975 suggests that in mixtures of late perennial ryegrass varieties, an early variety of timothy should be beneficial for its spring growth in grazed swards.  相似文献

Results of experiments where timothy, perennial ryegrass and mixtures of these two in the presence and absence of white clover and receiving various nitrogen treatments were compared, have been considered in the light of previous related experiments. There is evidence that under certain conditions greater yields of sown grass can be achieved from mixed seedings than from either of the two grasses on its own. No yield advantage was gained from mixtures of species when cut infrequently after a late first cut. Inclusion of white clover changed the balance of species in favour of perennial ryegrass and no yield advantage occurred with mixtures in the presence of clover. Yield advantage may be related to seasonal changes in the order of dominance of the two grass species in mixed seedings.  相似文献

Two additives (Silo Guard (SG) and propionic acid (PA)) were tested for their effects on the quality and aerobic security of sorghum–sudangrass hybrid silages (JC‐1 and WC‐2). Two sorghum–sudangrass hybrid varieties were harvested for ensiling without additives (CK) or after the following treatments: SG at 0·5% of fresh forage or PA at 0·5% of fresh forage, with three replicates per treatment. The addition of SG and PA both affected the fermentation quality and chemical composition of the silages by lowering pH and NH3‐N/TN and increasing lactic acid, the LA/TA ratio, WSC and CP concentrations compared with the untreated silages. In vitro DM digestibility (IVDMD), in vitro NDF digestibility (IVNDFD) and in vitro CP digestibility (IVCPD) were increased by SG in the JC‐1 silages and WC‐2 silages. Both additives improved the aerobic stability of sorghum–sudangrass hybrid silages. Furthermore, the additives reduced the mould counts and the aflatoxin and zearalenone levels compared with the untreated silages following aerobic exposure. Therefore, ensiling two sorghum–sudangrass hybrid varieties resulted in high‐quality silages. The addition of SG and PA improved silage quality, in vitro digestibility and aerobic security.  相似文献

Forty‐eight high‐yielding dairy cows of the Swedish Red breed were used to examine the effects of providing pea–oat silage (P), grass–clover silage (G) and a 0·50:0·50 mixture of the silages (M) ad libitum in diets with two concentrate levels (7 or 10 kg d?1). A 9‐week experiment, including a 2‐week pre‐experimental period in which the cows were all fed the same diet, and an in vivo apparent digestibility study were conducted comparing the six dietary treatments (M7, M10, P7, P10, G7, G10). Intake and digestibility of the diets and milk production and live weight of the cows were measured. The G silage [11·3 MJ ME kg?1 dry matter (DM)] was first‐cut grass herbage wilted for 24 h prior to addition of an additive, containing formic acid, propionic acid and ammonia, at 4 L t?1 fresh matter (FM). The P forage was cut when the peas were at pod fill and ensiled directly with 6 L t?1 FM of the same additive. The main hypothesis tested, that cows fed the M silage would produce more milk than the cows fed either the P or the G silages, was confirmed. The cows fed the M7 dietary treatment had similar milk yield and milk composition to cows offered the M10, G10 and P10 dietary treatments, and cows offered the G7 and P7 dietary treatments had lower milk and milk protein yields. This suggested that a mixed ration of pea–oat bi‐crop and grass–clover silage has a concentrate‐sparing effect, and that the use of pea–oat bi‐crop and grass–clover silage as a mixed ration for high‐yielding dairy cows can be recommended.  相似文献

To enlarge the feed resources and enhance the utilization efficiency of straws as ruminant feed in Tibet, four kinds of local crop straws with tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) based on the ratio of 40/60 (fresh weight) were ensiled with four levels (0, 10%, 20% and 30% of fresh weight) of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), respectively. The laboratory silos (1L) were opened after 45 days of ensiling, and the fermentation characteristics, nutritive value and in vitro digestibility of the mixed silages were analysed. The silages including alfalfa had significantly (< 0.05) or numerically (> 0.05) higher lactic acid and crude protein contents, lactic acid bacteria counts, in vitro digestibility of dry matter, neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF), and lower NDF and ADF contents than controls. The results suggest that inclusion of alfalfa to mixtures of straws and tall fescue had favourable effects on fermentation quality and obviously improved the nutritive value and in vitro digestibility of mixed silages. This effect was most evident when the inclusion proportion of alfalfa was 30% in oat straw mixed silage.  相似文献
