Considering that the use of decapsulated Artemia cysts as direct food for juvenile crayfish could be an alternative to live nauplii, a 100-day experiment was carried out under controlled conditions to evaluate the effects of cysts, comparing with nauplii, as supplement to a dry diet for salmonids on the survival and growth of juvenile signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) from the onset of exogenous feeding (stage 2). The reduction of feeding frequency was also tested. According to a bifactorial design, six treatments, differing in the supplement and feeding frequency, were tested: the dry diet supplemented with Artemia nauplii or decapsulated cysts was supplied once a day, once every two days and once every three days. Survival rates ranged from 56.7% to 81.7%, rising significantly with increasing the feeding frequency. The highest growth (12.94 mm carapace length and 593.08 mg weight) was reached by the crayfish that received the dry diet supplemented with cysts once a day, with significant differences from the rest of the treatments. Considering the supplement, the cysts supported significantly higher growth than the nauplii. Regarding the feeding frequency, growth was higher when the food was supplied once a day, showing significant differences from the other two frequencies (once every two days and once every three days). This study shows that decapsulated cysts are better dietary supplement than live nauplii. In crustacean culture, this is the first report of successful use of Artemia cysts from the onset of exogenous feeding.  相似文献

Effects of size grading and stocking density on growth and survival of 3.5‐month‐old signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus Dana) juveniles were investigated in a 3 × 2 factorial design with size group (small, large and mixed) and stocking density (25 and 200 individuals m?2) as factors for 90 days. Carapace length and wet weight growth of the juveniles were affected by the presence or absence of other size groups, stocking density and animal size. All factors had statistically significant interactions, which make the interpretation of the results more complicated. The smaller crayfish grew faster in the absence of large animals and larger animals benefited from the presence of smaller cospecies. Increasing density decreased the growth in length and weight. Survival (82–100%) was good in all groups. Subsequently, the within population dynamics was studied by selectively removing the largest individuals (selectively removing (SR) group). Effects on growth and survival of the remaining juveniles were evaluated on 6‐month‐old P. leniusculus juveniles reared in plastic tanks (100 juveniles m?2) for 122 days. Size distribution manipulation was performed at days 34 and 70. Juveniles in SR group grew significantly faster in comparison with a control group (RR), from which juveniles were removed randomly. Also, the survival rate was significantly higher in the SR group than in the RR group. In conclusion, size grading of juvenile P. leniusculus either at the start of the experiment or repeatedly during the experiment increased growth performance of smaller animals in length and weight.  相似文献

Juvenile turbot were size graded into three size groups (mean initial size): Small (3.4 g), medium (7.0 g) and large (10.5 g), and additional fish were held in ungraded (6.6 g) groups. Subgroups (n = 396) of fish were tagged and individual growth rates and social interactions within different size categories were studied in fish reared at 13 and 19 °C. Size grading of juvenile turbot did not improve growth. Specific growth rates (SGR) were mainly size-related, and no differences in SGR or mortality between the experimental groups at both tem-peratures were found. A higher level of social interactions was indicated amongst medium-sized fish than amongst those in the smallest and largest categories. Excess feeding may have been important factors in reducing aggression, so that the growth of the smallest individuals was not suppressed by the larger individuals in the present study. Grading seems to be an unnecessary operation to improve the growth and survival of juvenile turbot (5- 150 g). However, as it was mainly the smallest individuals in each group that died, grading of very small turbot (2-5 g) can be recommended.  相似文献

Recent advances on feeding in intensive rearing of juvenile astacids enable research of other factors influencing growth and survival without the confounding effect of inadequate feeding. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of the number of shelters per crayfish and to test different lighting conditions. Stage 2 juvenile Pacifastacus leniusculus were stocked in fibreglass tanks and fed a dry diet for salmonids combined with restricted amounts of decapsulated Artemia cysts. In experiment 1, four, two or one shelters per crayfish were tested for 80 days. No significant differences were found among groups either in survival (final mean: 86.67%) or in growth [final mean: 11.41 mm mean carapace length (CL), 355.45 mg mean weight]. In experiment 2, three lighting conditions were tested for 120 days: continuous lighting of 925 lx, continuous darkness and natural photoperiod. Survival rates ranged from 76.7% to 88.3%, with no significant differences among groups. The crayfish kept under continuous darkness grew faster (final mean: 12.70 mm CL, 543.08 mg weight) than those reared under the other two light conditions. This study shows that, under improved feeding conditions, a minimum number of shelters can be provided, and faster growth can be obtained in continuous darkness.  相似文献

In order to study the effect of rearing juvenile halibut in different social environments, individually tagged juvenile halibut were size-graded into two size classes (Large, L, and Small, S) with ungraded fish as control. After ca 6 weeks, the two size-graded groups were again graded into two size classes creating four experimental groups: Large of the Large (LL), Small of the Large (SL), Large of the Small (LS), and Small of the Small (SS). Grading (overall mean of the four grading groups) improved growth rate by 10% compared with ungraded controls, but the effect was also significantly affected by social environments, because in the latter half of the experiment overall growth was improved by 11 and 12% in the two groups with larger size variation (i.e. SL and LS, respectively) compared with the two other groups (i.e. LL and SS). Significant size rank correlations were maintained during the experiment, these were higher in the ungraded (Control) group and the SS and LL groups than in the SL and LS groups. Further, the degree of mean rank position changes varied between the experimental groups and was higher in the SL (20.7) and LS (25.6) groups than in the Control (10.5), LL (15.1), and SS (15.4) groups. This could possibly indicate a stronger social hierarchy in the last three groups. Growth rate differences may be the product of different degrees of interactions among individuals, and based on the higher overall growth rates in the groups with larger size variation (i.e. SL, LS) it is concluded that juvenile halibut should not be too intensively size graded. Imsland and Jenssen have contributed equally.  相似文献

The individual growth being regulated by population structure was studied in cultured populations of Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis Kaup) juveniles. Soles constituting an initial population were individually tagged and their specific growth rates (SGR) registered after two months of growth. Fish were then graded in order to achieve four new subpopulations based in their previous growths and cultured for other additional 60 days. Three subpopulations consisted of individuals that had previously shown an average SGR (% day−1) of 1.04 ± 0.3, 0.66 ± 0.1 and 0.18 ± 0.1, respectively. A fourth sole subpopulation was established from randomly selected juveniles to constitute the ungraded control group. Growth of the three subpopulations originally graded according to high (1.04% day−1), medium (0.66% day−1) and low (0.18% day−1) SGR soles, was always similar (P > 0.05) at any time (close to 0.60% day−1). SGR distributions along time revealed a tendency of the three subpopulations to achieve similar growth rate dispersals to that of the ungraded group after 60 days of culture. The individual growth of sole juveniles was also determined in populations that were subject to increased stocking density and food restriction. Soles stocked at high density (N = 110 fish tank−1; 30.97 ± 0.8 kg m−2) showed an increased growth standard deviation when compared with individuals kept at low density (N = 20 fish tank−1; 6.20 ± 0.2 kg m−2). In contrast, it was found that population growth dispersal was unaffected in soles fed at a daily ration of either 0.25% or 1.0% of their biomass. Minimum consequences on overall size dispersal in terms of ΔCV were found when high stocking and restricted food ration conditions were compared to control groups. Overall results from this work indicate that individual growth of captive juvenile soles was mainly regulated at a population level, existing a strong tendency to achieve a social arrangement in terms of growth. High stocking density and low feeding ration assay suggests that potentially competitive rearing conditions do not contribute to increase population size dispersal during intensive production of S. senegalensis.  相似文献

In temperate zone ponds, maximization of total production without decreasing average harvest weight is of increased importance due to the relatively short growing season. Recent research on the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii has shown that techniques such as size grading juveniles and adding artificial substrate to the ponds can accomplish these goals, and their impacts appear to be cumulative. However, due to the greater investments required, private producers have been reluctant to adopt these practices. The studies involved in developing these independent technologies have been conducted over a number of growing seasons with their different environmental conditions. It is important that different production technologies being utilized by commercial producers be directly compared under standardized conditions. The objective of this study was to compare the previously recommended and widely used technology (39,200/ha; ungraded juveniles; no substrate) (Low Input) with an intensified version of that technology used by some producers (54,340/ha; ungraded juveniles; no substrate) (Medium Input) with a technology package developed through a series of research trials to maximize production (69,160/ha; graded juveniles; with substrate; phase feeding) (High Input) under standardized conditions. Each of the seven 0.04-ha ponds were randomly assigned to either the Low Input, Medium Input, or High Input treatment with two, three, and two replicate ponds per treatment, respectively. Juvenile prawns (ungraded 0.6 ± 0.3 g; graded 0.9 ± 0.3 g) were stocked at one of the three densities according to its randomly assigned treatment. Low and Medium Input ponds received no added substrate while artificial substrate was added to the High Input ponds a rate sufficient to increase available surface area by 50%. Low and Medium Input Treatments were fed a 32% protein sinking pellet according to a feeding table. High Input ponds were fed at rates 20% above the feed table recommendations. After 104 d, survival was significantly higher (P± 0.05) in the High Input treatment (92%) than in the Medium Input treatment (83%), with Low Input ponds being intermediate (88%). Compared to the Low Input technology, the Medium Input technology significantly increased (P± 0.05) total production but significantly reduced average weight, so that Production Stock Index (PSI) and production of marketable size animals (> 20 g) or premium size animals (> 30 g) was not significantly increased (P > 0.05). Compared to the original Low Input technology, the High Input treatment significantly increased (P < 0.05) production (92%), average weight (6%), Production Stock Index (PSI) (102%), market-able production (> 20 g) (140%), production of premium size animals (> 30 g) (130%), and feed efficiency (32%). The move from the Low Input technology to the High Input technology reduced breakeven costs by 13% based on operating costs and 22% based on total cost figures. In summary, adoption of the High Input technology appears to be biologically and economically justified if similar results can be obtained in commercial scale ponds.  相似文献

Density reduction, supplemental feeding, and a combination of two treatments were evaluated as means to alleviate stunting of red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii in earthen ponds. Mean total yield of crayfish in low density control ponds averaged 1,218 kg/ha and was 1.5 to 2 times higher (P≤ 0.05) than either the high density control or treatment ponds. Mean individual harvest weight of crayfish averaged 15.1 g and did not differ among treatments. Mean total yield of crayfish in ponds receiving supplemental feed was 32% higher than non-fed ponds (P≤ 0.05). Mean total yield and size of crayfish at harvest from reduced and non-reduced treatments did not differ. Density reduction and supplemental feeding implemented in early April did not increase individual crayfish weight to the commercially desirable size of 20 g.  相似文献

Overfeeding in aquaculture can lead to suboptimal growth and increased production costs. Red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii, is one of the most noteworthy species cultured in China, but little information is available on the optimal feeding levels of this species, especially in ponds cultured with macrophytes. In this study, we tested the effects of five different feeding levels (20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% satiation) of an artificial diet on growth performance and muscle composition of juvenile P. clarkii in 15 concrete ponds cultured with the macrophyte Hydrilla verticillata (three replicates for each treatment). The results showed that growth performance decreased only when feeding levels were below 60% satiation. Muscle composition analysis revealed that the moisture and ash contents of muscle did not vary significantly with feeding levels but that the lipid and protein contents of muscle significantly decreased when P. clarkii was fed to 40% satiation. Stable isotope analysis suggested a shift in crayfish diets to easily available H. verticillata when feeding levels decreased. With this study, we hope to encourage crayfish farmers to reduce feeding levels and increase natural food items such as macrophytes in cultured ponds to maximize crayfish yields and reduce production costs.  相似文献

The influence of dietary protein/lipid levels on growth and survival in juvenile crayfish (Procambarus acanthophorus) was evaluated during a 12‐week nutritional trial. Twenty experimental diets were formulated containing different protein (200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 g kg?1) and lipid (60, 80, 100 and 120 g kg?1) levels. A bifactorial model (5 × 4) was used with three replicates and 15 crayfish (0.014±0.006 g) per replicate, in a recirculation system with 60–15 L rectangular tanks and a biological filter, the culture conditions were a photoperiod of 12:12 h L:D and temperature 24.7±1.0 °C. Total survival ranged from 66.6% to 86.6%, with no differences attributed to treatments. Dietary protein levels had a significant effect on growth gain and nutritional efficiency; in contrast, lipid levels had no effect on juvenile performance. The 250/120 (protein/lipid) treatment promoted the most efficient growth (final weight: 3.09 g, weight gain: 21 995%, specific growth rate: 3.35% day?1); the less efficient growth was observed in juveniles fed with 400 g kg?1 protein diets. The quadratic regression model indicated 279 g kg?1 as the optimal protein level for crayfish growth, while levels between 211 and 232 g kg?1 could minimize the feeding costs without affecting growth.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of starvation (78 days) and refeeding (33 days) on the oxidative stress [malondialdehyde (MDA)] and the non‐enzymatic antioxidants [vitamin E (VE), vitamin C (VC), vitamin A (VA), beta carotene (βC) and reduced glutathione (GSH)] in the hepatopancreas, muscle and gill tissues of freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus). Crayfish were divided into three experimental groups: control (fed), starved (not fed) crayfish for 78 days and refeeding crayfish for 33 days after 78 days of starvation. The biochemical analysis of the tissues was conducted at 3, 18, 33, 48, 63 and 78 days of starvation and feeding and at 3, 18 and 33 days of refeeding. It was determined that crayfish can withstand starvation period of 78 days. In all of the periods, the MDA levels were significantly higher in the tissues of starved crayfish when compared with the control. The findings of this study demonstrate that starvation has a negative effect on the VE, VC, VA, βC and GSH levels in the crayfish. The measured parameters returned to control values after 33 days of the refeeding. Additionally, the starvation resulted in decreased levels of VE, VA and βC in the abdomen muscle of crayfish consumed by humans.  相似文献

The possibility of inducing sex reversal in bay snook, Petenia splendida, was evaluated to generate a protocol aimed at producing single‐sex populations (100% males) and improving farming conditions for this species. This popular staple food is a cichlid fish native to Central America, with aquaculture potential. We evaluated oral administration of the synthetic steroid 17α‐methyltestosterone (MT) to determine optimal dosage (30, 45, and 60 mg/kg of food) and days of feeding (30, 45, and 60) to attain efficient masculinization. The statistical analysis indicates a highly significant effect of both factors as well as for the interaction (P < 0.01). We registered significant differences in growth at the end of the experiment; fish fed with 60 mg of MT for 60 d reached the largest size, while fish fed with no MT were smaller. No significant differences were observed for survival (P > 0.05), ranging from 55.7 to 75.3% in the treatments. We recommend the use of 60 mg/kg of MT for 30 d for achieving successful sex reversal. This study provides valuable information supporting the inclusion of new species in aquaculture, reducing time and costs associated with sex reversal previously proposed for the species.

The growth responses of juvenile crayfish, Procambarus clarkii Girard, to diets based on common fresh feedstuffs available from agriculture and freshwater ecosystems were studied under controlled laboratory conditions. The dietary treatments were: fresh leaves and shoots of watercress, fresh potato tubers, fresh fish meat from mosquitofish, and all the possible combinations of those ingredients on alternate feeding days. After 22 days, the results showed a significantly higher growth rate (P= 0.05) in crayfish fed with mosquitofish meat. The differences were not significant between the other treatments, but those which included fish meat induced growth rates consistently higher than those based only on plant ingredients. This trend was maintained until the end of the experiment. These results suggest that a dietary supplement based on animal ingredients might significantly improve growth rate and yield, provided the economic feasibility of such a production process be confirmed in field trials. However, it was not clear whether this was because of protein, or lipid concentration and composition of mosquitofish meat. Further research must also clarify the role of vegetable ingredients in dietary composition, as well as the effect of microbial populations occurring during the decomposition of plant material on its nutritional properties for crayfish.  相似文献

A 60‐day study comparing the growth performance; proximate composition and the digestive, immune and antioxidant enzyme activities of juvenile red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) reared using biofloc technology (the biofloc group) or a commercial diet (the control group) in zero‐water exchange indoor tanks was performed. A commercial diet was fed to both groups, and the daily feeding amount in the biofloc group was 40% less than that in the control group. Wheat bran and glucose were used in the biofloc group to ensure a C/N ratio >15 and the same feeding energy as that given to the control group. After 60 days of feeding, the final weight, weight gain and specific growth rate in the biofloc group were significantly higher than those in the control group. Furthermore, proximate composition analysis showed that the total hepatopancreatic lipid and ash contents of the biofloc group were significantly higher than those of the control group, and the intestinal and hepatopancreatic pepsin activities in crayfish in the biofloc group were higher than those in crayfish in the control group. Moreover, higher hepatopancreatic lipase and cellulase activities were observed for the biofloc group than for the control group. Biofloc technology promoted the health of the crayfish in terms of their immune and antioxidant enzyme activities. Based on the results of this study, biofloc technology is more effective than traditional commercial diets for the farming of juvenile crayfish.  相似文献

A nursery-reared population of juvenile freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) averaging 0.11 ± 0.058 g was size graded through a 4-mm bar grader producing a numerically 53% upper size population (0.25 ± 0.086 g). These were stocked into triplicate earthen ponds (0.04–0.07 ha each) at densities of 39,540, 59,300 and 79,100/ha, grown for 131 to 134 d, and fed a specially formulated diet. An additional three ponds were stocked at 39,540/ha and fed a commercial sinking catfish feed. Density had a significant effect on average whole body wet weight at harvest but no significant effect on either total yield, survival, or feed conversion. Mean wet weight was significantly higher for prawns stocked at 39,540/ha (34.3 g) than that for those stocked at either 59,300/ha (26.7 g) or 79,100/ha (263 g). The direct relationship between the percentage of small males and increasing density usually seen with ungraded populations was not evidenced in the size-graded populations. Average total yield ranged from 1,041 to 1,662 kg/ha for stocking densities from 39,540 to 79,100/ha. Differences in overall mean wet weight resulted from differences in mean wet weights for orange claw and no claw males and berried and open females, not from differences in morphotype distributions. These differences resulted in significantly higher percentages of tails within the larger count categories and higher revenues for prawns stocked at 39,540/ha. Feed type had no significant effect. Projected net revenues suggest that prawns need to be marketed and sold as a whole product.  相似文献

The experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of prepared hairtail protein hydrolysate–Fe2+ (PH–Fe2+) complexes on growth and non-specific immune responses of crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). The diets with five different levels of PH–Fe2+ (200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 mg/kg) were fed to crayfish for 60 days. The results indicated that the survival rate, weight gain percentage, specific growth rate, and muscle index of crayfish with 400–1000 mg/kg of PH–Fe2+ feeding were significantly higher, 9.94–10.10, 8.55–8.72, 0.24–0.29 %/day, and 2.39–3.05 %, respectively, than the control values after 60 days of feeding. Additionally, after 30 days of feeding, 200–400 mg/kg of PH–Fe2+ showed no significant (P > 0.05) improvement effect on activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), phenoloxidase (PO), lysozyme (LSZ), and acid phosphatase (ACP) in serum or hepatopancreas of crayfish. However, significant improvement effects were observed in 800–1000 mg/kg groups. After 60 days of feeding, 400–600 mg/kg of PH–Fe2+ significantly (P < 0.05) improved the activity of SOD and LSZ, but did not affect the activity of PO and ACP significantly (P > 0.05). Moreover, the activities of SOD, PO, LSZ, and ACP in serum and hepatopancreas were all significantly enhanced upon treatment with 800–1000 mg/kg of PH–Fe2+. For these reasons, PH–Fe2+ can be recommended as a supplement in crayfish feed to increase the growth and immunity.  相似文献

European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax L., groups reared under different conditions during larval stages (mesocosm and intensive rearing) were monitored during on‐growing in sea cages until marketable size (350–400 g). Four caged groups were followed for a period of 17 months each at a pilot scale farm, where vertical distribution behaviour was monitored. This was performed while fish were under calm conditions, during feeding and when stress events occurred. Also during two specific periods: (i) spawning and (ii) high water temperature. Clear differences in the behavioural pattern of swimming depth, displacement and used space between the groups were observed. The individuals from the mesocosm rearing were more sensitive to human presence, showing stronger reactions (speed of displacement and vertical distribution). Most pronounced differences were observed during the ‘extreme’ warm period and the reproductive season. Within the seasons, European sea bass responded during feeding and stress showing a tendency to move deeper compared to calm conditions. The increased displacements were longer during feeding and stress.  相似文献

Six groups of Atlantic halibut, Hippoglossus hippoglossus L., larvae were offered calanoid cope-pods at different periods from days 11 to 25 after first feeding (1.13-3.20 mm myotome height) in order to establish at which stage normal pigmentation was determined. Artemia nauplii enriched with an oil emulsion were used prior to and after the copepod period. Control groups were fed on copepods or Artemia only. The Artemia diet initiated an earlier intake of food and higher initial growth compared to the copepod diet. After 50 days of feeding, the average dry weights of the fish fed on Artemia and copepods were quite similar to the copepod-fed fish, while the Artemia-fed fish were the smallest in size. The lowest frequency of normally pigmented juveniles was found in the Artemia-fed group (66.4%), while the copepod group showed almost 100% normal pigmentation. A significantly higher frequency of pigmentation was found in juveniles given a copepod diet close to the initiation of metamorphosis than those provided with an earlier copepod period of equal duration. A high degree of eye migration was found in all groups, but was lowest in the Artemia-fed group. The initial stage of eye migration was found to occur at a larger body size in fish given Artemia and copepods, or a copepod diet than in fish fed on Artemia alone. There was no significant correlation between eye migration and growth rates prior to metamorphosis, although the largest individuals exhibited the most complete eye migration. High pigmentation frequencies were obtained in fish with a low 22:6n-3:20:.5n-3 (DHA:EPA) ratio (< 1.0).  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of practical diets with different levels of vitamin C on survival and growth of juvenile crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus). An 80‐day trial was conducted with stage 2 juveniles from the onset of exogenous feeding. Four practical diets differing in the content of l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate‐Na were prepared: 0, 0.2, 0.4 or 0.8 g kg?1 diet. Each diet was tested on grouped or individually isolated crayfish. Diets had no significant effects on survival of crayfish held in groups (average: 73.1%) neither on the isolated ones (average: 90%). Crayfish fed the diet with 0.2 g kg?1 of l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate‐Na had the highest growth (groups: 13.64 mm carapace length (CL), 542.4 mg weight; isolated: 17.05 mm CL, 1213.2 mg weight) and the lowest feed conversion ratio (average of grouped and isolated: 0.99). This study provides the first data on vitamin C requirements of freshwater crayfish. A level of 0.2 g l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate‐Na kg?1 diet (0.07 g ascorbic acid equivalent) can be recommended for juvenile P. leniusculus during the first period of intensive rearing.  相似文献
