Effect of ranitidine on gastric acid secretion in young male horses   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Gastric cannulas were placed surgically in 5 young male horses. After a 2-week recovery period, horses were studied once a week. Horses were fasted for 24 hours, and gastric fluid output was collected for 5 continuous hours. Volumes were recorded every 15 minutes, and pH and hydrogen ion concentration were determined in an aliquot from each period. In 10 basal experiments, using 5 horses, volume, pH, and hydrogen ion concentration were continuously variable. Mean acid output was 45.1 +/- 2.02 microEq/15 min/kg (mean +/- SEM). In 6 experiments, using 3 horses, 0.5 mg of ranitidine/kg of body weight, given as an IV bolus after a 1-hour basal collection, significantly (P less than 0.02) inhibited hourly total acid output for 4 hours, but did not significantly change pH. The cannulation technique was done without complications, and horses tolerated the cannula for several months. Seemingly, the horse has a continuously variable gastric acid secretion, and histamine type-2 receptors have a role in this process.  相似文献

The association of Helicobacter pylori with gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric neoplasia has led to fundamental changes in the understanding of gastric disease in humans. The relationship of Helicobacter spp. infection to gastric disease in dogs is unclear. The objective of this study was to determine if Helicobacter infection affects the gastric secretory axis of dogs. Eight Beagle dogs with naturally acquired Helicobacter spp. infection were studied before and after (4 and 29 days) the attempted eradication of Helicobacter spp. with a combination of amoxicillin, metronidazole, and famotidine (AMF). Six specific-pathogen-free, Helicobacter-free Beagle dogs served as controls. The electron microscopic appearance of spiral organisms in infected dogs indicated coinfection with Helicobacter felis- and H bizzozeronii-like organisms. Unstimulated gastric pH and fasting, postprandial, and bombesin-stimulated plasma gastrin were similar in both infected and uninfected dogs, although a trend (P = .09) toward higher meal-stimulated gastrin was observed in infected dogs at 60 minutes. Pentagastrin-stimulated maximal acid output (mmol HCI/kg0.75/hour) and titratable acidity (mmol HCl/mL) were similar in both infected and uninfected dogs, but gastric pH during maximal acid output was lower (P < .01) in uninfected dogs. Mild gastric inflammation was present in both infected and uninfected dogs. Gastric spiral organisms were undetectable in 6/8 infected dogs 4 days after AMF but had recurred in 8/8 dogs 29 days after AMF. Analysis of gastric DNA with Helicobacter-specific primers indicated persistence of Helicobacter DNA at 4 and 29 days after antibiotic therapy. Acid secretion, plasma gastrin, and mucosal inflammation were not affected by the transient suppression of Helicobacter spp. by AMF. These findings suggest that gastric secretory function in dogs is not markedly perturbed by naturally acquired Helicobacter spp. infection and that treatment with amoxicillin, metronidazole, and famotidine causes suppression rather than eradication of gastric Helicobacter spp. in dogs.  相似文献

The effect of corn oil (approximately 60% [wt/vol] linoleic acid) dietary supplementation on various components of equine gastric secretion was studied by use of a repeated-measures experimental design. Four healthy adult ponies were surgically fitted with gastric cannulas. The ponies were then fed a free-choice hay diet for 5 weeks, which was followed by 5 weeks of the same diet supplemented with 45 mL of corn oil daily. Gastric contents were analyzed under basal and pentagastrin-stimulated conditions once weekly during the latter 2 weeks on each diet. Gastric contents were collected at 30-minute intervals, and volume, hydrogen ion concentration, sodium content, and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) content were measured. Data were analyzed by a linear fixed-effect modeling procedure. During the diet supplemented with corn oil, the ponies had, under basal and pentagastrin-stimulated conditions, significantly decreased acid output and significantly increased PGE2 and sodium outputs compared to those measured before corn oil supplementation. We conclude that corn oil supplementation may be an effective and inexpensive way to increase the protective properties of equine glandular gastric mucosa. This could be particularly helpful in reducing the chances of ulceration associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) administration.  相似文献

The components of the daily external water and electrolyte balances of five normal Standardbred geldings with a mean body weight of 427 kg, were determined over 14 day periods. The mean value of daily total water intake (a summation of free, combined and metabolic water intake) for the group was 27.6 litres, that is, 64.4 ml/kg body weight, while mean values for ambient temperature and humidity ranged from 16 to 25 degrees C and 55.4 to 75.5 per cent, respectively. The mean daily urine volume of 9.9 litres (23.2 ml/kg) for the group, was found to exceed the mean faecal water output of 7.2 litres (16.9 ml/kg). The mean output of sodium for the five animals, in urine and faeces, was 780 mmol or 79 per cent of the intake. The mean output of potassium, chloride, calcium and magnesium were 3163, 2521, 1824 and 1448 mmol or 95, 84, 74 and 75 per cent, respectively of intake. The sodium and potassium not accounted for in urine and faeces may well have been lost in sweat. Results are discussed and compared with those of a previous external balance study in the horse.  相似文献

The basal gastric pH and free acid contents from five young adult healthy horses were determined at one hour intervals for eight hours. The basal gastric pH and free acid contents varied from 1.63 +/- 0.06 to 1.97 +/- 0.11 and 26.42 +/- 4.14 to 17.92 +/- 5.28 mmol litre-1, respectively. Misoprostol, a methylester analogue of prostaglandin (5 micrograms kg-1, orally) produced a time-dependent increase in the basal gastric pH to above 3.5 (P less than 0.05) at three, four and five hours after administration with a concomitant reduction of 80 to 90 per cent in the basal gastric free acid contents throughout the eight hour period monitored. Omeprazole, a benzimidazole derivative (0.5 mg kg-1, intravenously) increased the basal gastric pH to above 3.5 at two and three hours after administration with a concomitant reduction of 65 to 90 per cent in the basal gastric free acid contents for seven of the eight hour periods monitored. These results confirm that the horse is a basal acid secretor, and both misoprostol and omeprazole are effective inhibitors of the basal gastric acid secretion, thus establishing that both prostaglandins and H+/K+-ATPase play an important role in controlling parietal cell function of the equine gastric mucosa.  相似文献

The effects of furosemide (0.55 mg/kg IV) on the plasma and urinary fentanyl (PFE UFE) concentrations were studied during steady-state conditions. The PFE during the steady-state period was 0.31 +/- 0.027 ng/ml, with no significant changes occurring, even though the rate of excretion of fentanyl (EX) increased during the 1st hour from 112.0 +/- 21.6 to 534.5 +/- 82.9 ng/minute. The EX returned to control levels within 3 hours, as did the UFE. The injection of furosemide increased glomerular filtration rate from 1.97 +/- 0.21 to 3.81 +/- 0.75 ml/kg/min. The fractional reabsorption decreased from a control of 70.3 +/- 6.2% to 25.2 +/- 2.3% during the 1st hour, returning to control levels at 3 hours after furosemide was given. The total body clearance of fentanyl increased slightly during the peak period of diuresis. The return of EX, fractional reabsorption, UFE, and clearance of endogenous creatinine to control levels occurred before the return of urine specific gravity, indicating the ability of the kidney to concentrate fentanyl before its water concentrating capacity had returned.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of orally administered omeprazole, as enteric-coated capsules, on baseline and stimulated gastric acid secretion in horses. ANIMALS: 5 healthy 8-year-old mixed-breed horses fitted with gastric cannulas. PROCEDURE: Enteric-coated granules of omeprazole were mixed with corn syrup and administered orally once daily for 5 consecutive days. On days 1 and 5 beginning 5 hours after omeprazole administration, 4 gastric fluid samples were collected, each for 15 minutes, via the gastric cannula (baseline samples). Pentagastrin was administered IV as a constant infusion for the subsequent 2 hours, and 15-minute gastric fluid samples were again collected (stimulated samples). Fluid volume, acidity (mmol H-/L), and pH and gastric acid production (mmol H+) were determined for all baseline samples and for stimulated samples collected during the second hour of pentagastrin infusion. Control experiments were done in a similar manner after giving corn syrup alone to the same horses. RESULTS: Compared with values obtained during control experiments, baseline and stimulated gastric fluid acidity and gastric acid production significantly decreased, and the mean pH of gastric fluid samples significantly increased, after horses were given 5 daily doses of omeprazole. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Enteric-coated omeprazole (1.0 mg/kg of body weight; PO) administered once daily for 5 days significantly inhibited unstimulated and pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion in horses. This commercially available formulation of omeprazole may be efficacious in the treatment of gastroduodenal ulcers in horses.  相似文献

Microbial and fermentation changes in the ingesta of the large intestine and their influence on the pathogenesis of acute lactic acidosis were studied in 4 cows fitted with permanent cannulas in the ileum and cecum. Feed mixture containing 65% of maize was infused into the cecum for several days in amounts of 2 and 4 kg per day. The daily amount was divided in 8 equal portions and given with 3 l of warm physiologic saline solution. During the period of ad libitum feeding of hay, the pH values in cecal digesta were 7.4 to 7.6 and the amount of total volatile fatty acids 40-60 mmol/kg with high molar percentage (87-90 mol%) of acetic acid. As to lactic acid only the L(+) lactic isomer was found in a concentration of about 0.4 mmol/kg. Infusion of low amounts of starch induced mild lactic acid fermentation in the cecum associated with a pronounced increase in the concentration of L(+) and D (-) lactic acid to peak levels of 80 +/- 10 mmol/kg and 7 +/- 1 mmol/kg, respectively. Lactic acid fermentation ceased within 2 to 3 days indicating that the gut microflora had adapted to the starch infusion. Slight decreases of blood pH and bicarbonates in blood as well as a moderate increase of netto acid-base excretion in urine indicated mild changes of acid-base balance, but clinically no pathological symptoms were observed. Higher amounts of infused starch caused pronounced lactic acid production in the large intestine which persisted throughout the experiment. Peak L(+) and D(-) lactic acid concentration in cecal digesta reached on the average 137 +/- 16 mmol/kg and 45 +/- 7 mmol/kg respectively. Significant decreases of blood pH values from 7.41 +/- 0.02 to 7.18 +/- 0.08 (P < 0.001), actual bicarbonate from 28.2 +/- 3.2 to 11.0 +/- 2.6 mmol/l (P < 0.001) and base excess from 3.9 +/- 3.6 to -15.2 +/- 3.8 mmol/l (P < 0.001) were observed. D (-) lactic acid concentration in blood increased to 3.2 +/- 0.4 mmol/l, but L(+) lactic acid values remained unchanged under 1 mmol/l. Clear clinical symptoms of indigestion and intoxication characterized by severe inappetence, ruminal stasis and general weakness were also observed. Typical clinical symptoms of disease as well as blood and urine changes in acid-base balance indicated that lactic acid fermentation in the large intestine contributes considerably to the pathogenesis of acute ruminant lactic acidosis.  相似文献

The effects of a potent new histamine-2 (H2) receptor antagonist, BMY-25368, were studied on gastric acid secretion in 5 foals from which food was withheld. Doses of 0.02, 0.11, 0.22, and 1.10 mg/kg of body weight were administered IM in a randomly assigned treatment sequence. Following BMY-25368 administration, hydrogen ion concentration was decreased and mean pH was higher than baseline values in a dose-response pattern. At the 0.22 and 1.10 mg/kg doses, the high pH was sustained for greater than 4 hours. The BMY-25368 thus may be useful for treating gastric ulcer disease in horses.  相似文献

Six anaemic and six healthy pigs were exercised for ten minutes on a belt moving at 78 m/min. Initial blood glucose values in healthy pigs averaged 71.2 mg/100 ml, and they changed very little during and after exercise. Initial values were similar in anaemic pigs (70.7 mg/100 ml), but they increased continuously, during exercise, reaching a peak of 157.4 mg/100 ml one minute after the end of exercise. Blood lactic acid increased from 1152 to 2463 mmol/litre in healthy pigs during the first minute of exercise, and then fell gradually. In anaemic pigs it increased from 1652 to 8478 mmol/l during the ten minutes of exercise, and then fell gradually. Correlations between lactic acid and haemoglobin content, between rectal temperature and Hb, and between lactic acid and changes in rectal temperature were discussed.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the origin of the nonacid (nonparietal) component of gastric secretions in horses induced by pentagastrin infusion. ANIMALS: 6 horses. PROCEDURE: A Latin square design was used, involving 6 horses, 3 treatments, and 2 duodenal intubation conditions (catheter with balloon to obstruct pylorus [B] or without balloon allowing movement of contents between stomach and duodenum [NB]). Each horse had an indwelling gastric cannula and a catheter positioned in the duodenum. Gastric and duodenal contents were collected during 15-minute periods. Each experiment consisted of serial collection periods: baseline; infusion of pyrilamine maleate (1 mg/kg of body weight, IV); not treated; and IV infusion of saline (0.9% NaCl) solution alone, saline solution containing pentagastrin (6 microg/kg x h), or saline solution containing histamine (30 microg/kg x h). Volume of samples was recorded, and electrolyte concentrations were measured. RESULTS: Pentagastrin and histamine stimulated maximal acid output; however, during NB conditions, pentagastrin-induced concentration of hydrogen ions was significantly less than during histamine or pentagastrin infusions during B conditions. The large volume produced in response to pentagastrin during NB conditions was accompanied by increased sodium ion output that was greater than for pentagastrin during B conditions, but both values were significantly greater than values for histamine during B or NB conditions. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Nonparietal secretions collected during IV infusion of pentagastrin are duodenal in origin. Reflux of duodenal contents into the stomach of horses is enhanced by pentagastrin. Flow of duodenal contents into the stomach could have implications in the pathogenesis of ulcers in horses.  相似文献

Quantitative review of optimum amino acid intakes for young laying pullets   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Data relating egg output to daily intakes of lysine, methionine, tryptophan, isoleucine and valine have been analysed using both published and unpublished sources. Amino acid requirements in mg/d for individual pullets were estimated by the following equations: (Table: see text) where E = egg output in g/d and W = body weight in kg. Response curves for flocks of pullets were calculated using the Reading model and optimum intakes were derived for various body weights, egg outputs and ratios of input costs to output values. Estimates of amino acid maintenance requirements were related to reported values for the adult cockerel and the amino acid requirement for egg output was related to the digestibility of amino acids and the composition of egg protein. Procedures are suggested for deriving response coefficients for other essential amino acids.  相似文献

Eight mature horses were administered a single intramuscular injection of 500 mg polysulfated glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG) labeled with 2.044 mCi tritium. Synovial fluid samples were collected from the antebrachiocarpal (carpal), metacarpophalangeal (fetlock), tibiotarsal (hock) and coronopedal (coffin) joints prior to injection and at 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24 hours after injection. The samples were subjected to scintillation counting in decays per minute and were converted to μg PSGAG per ml. The levels achieved in the synovial fluid of the various joints were compared to levels of PSGAG described as adequate to inhibit enzymes which degrade articular cartilage matrix components and hyaluronic acid and adequate to stimulate production of new matrix components and hyaluronic acid in diseased joints.Mean synovial fluid 3H-PSGAG levels indicated that peak concentrations of 3H-PSGAG were achieved 2 hours post injection in all joints and that these concentrations were within the therapeutic range for PSGAG. The peak concentrations were not significantly different among the joints except between the antebrachiocarpal and the metacarpophalangeal joints. The areas under the concentration-time curves (AUC) for each joint were computed by the trapezoidal method from hour 0 through hour 24 and by empirical exponential decay beyond hour 24. These values were subjected to an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The overall multivariate test of AUC among all joints was not significant. The data from this study indicate that a single intramuscular 500 mg injection of PSGAG provided therapeutic levels of the drug in the equine antebrachiocarpal, metacarpophalangeal, tibiotarsal, and coronopedal joints within 2 hours of injection. While there were differences in levels between joints at certain time points, the AUC values suggest similar distribution of the drug in all joints tested.  相似文献

1. Indirect calorimetry was used to study the effects on the energy metabolism of cockerels and hens after peak lay of a hybrid layer strain of regulating food or energy intake to 80% of ad libitum for an extended period of time. 2. Regulation of food intake decreased fasting and fed heat productions per bird and per unit metabolic body weight (kg0.75). 3. Maintenance energy requirements (per kg0.75) of both sexes were reduced about 20% by regulation; maintenance requirements of cockerels were about 30% lower per kg0.75 than hens on the same treatments. 4. Reducing the intake of all nutrients by 20% had the same effect on the energy metabolism of cockerels as restricting energy alone by the same amount. 5. Gross efficiency of egg production, in terms of both mass and energy, was higher when intake was regulated. During weeks 21 to 52 of restriction, daily egg mass output was significantly higher in hens fed ad libitum. 6. After 52 weeks of food regulation, restricted hens weighed 20% less and their total carcass energy was 36% less than hens fed ad libitum; similar effects were found in the cockerels.  相似文献

Circulatory and respiratory function was monitored in nonmedicated, spontaneously breathing horses (n = 7) immediately before, during, and 1 hour after 85 +/- 4.1 (X +/- SEM) minutes of constant 1.57% isoflurane in O2 anesthesia. Comparison of values during anesthesia with those obtained while horses were awake revealed a significant (P less than 0.05) decrease in arterial blood pressure that was related to a slight, but insignificant, decrease in cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance. Although isoflurane anesthesia and recumbency resulted in a significant (P less than 0.05) decrease in stroke volume, cardiac output did not decrease significantly because heart rate tended to increase. Isoflurane and recumbency also significantly (P less than 0.05) increased PaCO2, peak expiratory gas flow, total expiratory time, and PCV and significantly decreased PaO2, minute expired ventilation, and the ratio of peak inspired to expired gas flow. Differences imposed by isoflurane anesthesia were reversed by 1.5 hour after anesthesia.  相似文献

Cardiovascular responses to sublethal endotoxin infusion (Escherichia coli, 50 micrograms/ml in lactated Ringer solution at 100 ml/h until pulmonary arterial pressure increased by 10 mm of Hg) were measured 2 times in 5 standing horses. In a 2-period crossover experimental design, horses were either administered hypertonic (2,400 mosm/kg of body weight, IV) or isotonic (300 mosm/kg, IV) NaCl solution after endotoxin challenges. Each solution was administered at a dose of 5 ml/kg (infusion rate, 80 ml/min). Complete data sets (mean arterial, central venous, and pulmonary arterial pressures, pulmonary arterial blood temperature, cardiac output, total peripheral vascular resistance, heart rate, plasma osmolality, plasma concentration of Na, K, Cl, and total protein, blood lactate concentration, and PCV) were collected at 0 (baseline, before endotoxin infusion), 0.25, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, and 4.5 hours after initiation of the endotoxin infusion. Blood constituents alone were measured at 0.5 hour and cardiovascular variables alone were evaluated at 0.75 hour. By 0.25 hour, endotoxin infusion was completed, a data set was collected, and saline infusion was initiated. By 0.75 hour, saline solutions had been completely administered. Mean (+/- SEM) cardiac output decreased (99.76 +/- 3.66 to 72.7 +/- 2.35 ml/min/kg) and total peripheral resistance (1.0 +/- 0.047 to 1.37 +/- 0.049 mm of Hg/ml/min/kg) and pulmonary arterial pressure (33.4 +/- 0.86 to 58.3 +/- 1.18 mm of Hg) increased for both trials by 0.25 hour after initiation of the endotoxin infusion and prior to fluid administration. For the remainder of the protocol, cardiac output was increased and total peripheral resistance was decreased during the hypertonic, compared with the isotonic, saline trial.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The stimuli that elicit thirst were studied in four ponies. Nineteen hours of water deprivation produced an increase in plasma protein from 67 +/- 0.1 g/litre to 72 +/- 2 g/litre, a mean (+/- se) increase in plasma sodium from 139 +/- 3 to 145 +/- 2 mmol/litre and an increase in plasma osmolality from 297 +/- 1 to 306 +/- 2 mosmol/litre. Undeprived ponies drank 1.5 +/- 0.9 kg/30 mins; 19 h deprived ponies drank 10.2 +/- 2.5 kg/30 mins and corrected the deficits in plasma protein, plasma sodium and plasma osmolality as well as compensating for the water they would have drunk during the deprivation period. In order to determine if an increase in plasma osmolality would stimulate thirst, 250 ml of 15 per cent sodium chloride was infused intravenously. The ponies drank when osmolality increased 3 per cent and when plasma sodium rose from 136 +/- 3 mmol/litre to 143 +/- 3 mmol/litre. Ponies infused with 15 per cent sodium chloride drank 2.9 +/- 0.7 kg; those infused with 0.9 per cent sodium chloride drank 0.7 +/- 0.5 kg. In order to determine if a decrease in plasma volume would stimulate thirst, ponies were injected with 1 or 2 mg/kg bodyweight (bwt) frusemide. Plasma protein rose from 68 +/- 2 g/litre pre-injection to 75 +/- 2 g/litre 1 h after 1 mg/kg bwt frusemide and to 81 +/- 1 g/litre 1 h after 2 mg/kg bwt frusemide.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The basal gastric pH, free and total acid contents from five adult horses were determined at two-hour intervals for six- to eight-hour periods. The basal gastric pH, free and total acid contents varied from 2.14 +/- 0.08 to 2.41 +/- 0.14, 28.63 +/- 8.27 to 17.89 +/- 2.86 mmol litre-1 and 41.38 +/- 9.72 to 37.38 +/- 3.70 mmol litre-1, respectively. Cimetidine (8.8 mg kg-1 orally) and ranitidine (2.2 mg kg-1 orally) increased the basal gastric pH to above 3.6 (P less than 0.05) with a concomitant reduction of 75 per cent and 75 to 100 per cent in the basal gastric free acid content, respectively, for an eight-hour period. Cimetidine (4.4 mg kg-1, intramuscularly) and ranitidine (1.4 mg kg-1, intramuscularly) increased the basal gastric pH to above 3.6 with a concomitant reduction of 54 to 93 per cent and 69 to 100 per cent in the basal gastric free acid content, respectively, for an eight-hour period. This study shows that the horse is a basal acid secretor, and that cimetidine and ranitidine, two widely used histaminergic-H2 type antagonists in human clinical practice are effective in horses with ranitidine being approximately four times more potent than cimetidine.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to assess the endogenous fraction of purine derivative (PD) excretion, urinary recovery, and intestinal digestibility of purines in Nellore heifers. For both experiments, 8 Nellore heifers fitted with ruminal and abomasal cannulas were allocated to two 4 × 4 Latin squares. The diets were based on corn silage and concentrate (60 and 40% DM basis, respectively); feces and urine samples were obtained by total collection, and abomasal DM flow was estimated using indigestible NDF as an internal marker. In Exp. I, 4 of the 8 heifers (BW 258 ± 20 kg) were also fitted with ileal cannula. The planned treatments were 4 different DMI: 1.2, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.4% of BW (DM basis). The endogenous losses and purine recovery as urinary PD were estimated using linear regression between daily urinary PD excretion (Y) and daily abomasal flow of purine bases (X), expressed in millimoles per kilogram of BW(0.75). In Exp. II, the same 8 Nellore heifers (BW of 296 ± 15 kg) were fed at 1.37% BW (DM basis). The treatments were the infusion of purines (RNA from torula yeast, type VI, Sigma) into the abomasum in increasing amounts (0, 33, 66, and 100 mmol/d). All statistical analyses were performed using the PROC MIXED procedure in SAS. In Exp. I, the DMI range was 1.16 to 1.84% of BW and did not affect (P > 0.05) the apparent RNA digestibility in the small intestine, which had a mean of 75.6%, and a true digestibility of 93.0%. The mean ratio of the N-RNA to the total-N in the ruminal bacteria was 0.137. The daily urinary PD excretion (Y, mmol/kg of BW(0.75)) was a function of RNA flow in the abomasum (X, mmol/kg of BW(0.75)): Y = 0.860X + 0.460, where 0.860 and 0.460 were the PD recovery of purines and the endogenous fraction (in mmol/kg of BW(0.75)), respectively. In Exp. II, the daily urinary PD excretion was a function of RNA flow in the abomasum: Y = 0.741X + 0.301, where 0.741 and 0.301 were the recovery of PD in urine of infused purines and the endogenous losses (in mmol/kg of BW(0.75)), respectively. In conclusion, our data suggest that in Nellore heifers the respective values of endogenous PD excretion (mmol/kg of BW(0.75)), urinary recovery of the purines absorbed in the abomasum, and true digestibility of RNA in the small intestine were 0.30, 0.80, and 0.93.  相似文献

Four standardbred horses with subcutaneously relocated carotid arteries were given a seven week training programme of treadmill exercise at a gradient of 19 per cent in order to assess if there were any effects of exercise and training on haematology, arterial blood gas and acid base measurements, plasma biochemistry and heart rate. The exercise consisted of one minute walking at 110 metres/minute followed by five minutes trotting at 200 metres/minute, twice daily in the first week. The period of trotting exercise was increased by one minute per week so that by the seventh week the horses were being given 12 minutes trotting twice daily. Before training commenced venous blood samples, for complete blood counts and plasma biochemistry, and arterial samples, for blood gas, acid base and lactate measurements, were taken at rest, after five minutes and 15 minutes of treadmill exercise (200 metres/minute) and 30 minutes and 60 minutes after completing the exercise. Heart rate was measured by telemetric electrocardiogram at similar intervals. This exercise test and blood collection were repeated after one, three, five and seven weeks of training. The only significant changes were a decrease in exercise lactate with training, increases in exercise and recovery total protein. The haematological response to treadmill exercise included an increase in certain red cell parametes and a leucocytosis which was caused by both a neutrophilia and a lymphocytosis. These effects had largely disappeared by 30 minutes after exercise and all values had returned to resting values by one hour after exercise.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
