Three studies were conducted to determine the potential of experimental feed additives (EFAs), clays or non‐digestible yeast oligosaccharides, to reduce milk aflatoxin (AFM1) concentrations in lactating Holstein cows consuming aflatoxin‐contaminated diets. All studies included a pre‐treatment period and a 2‐week experimental period in a randomized block design. During the pre‐treatment period, cows received a total mixed ration (TMR) with no aflatoxin contamination. During both experimental weeks, all cows were fed a TMR containing aflatoxin‐contaminated corn. During experimental week 1, cows received no EFA’s in the TMR, but EFA’s were included in the TMR for the second experimental week. In studies 1 and 2, the experimental period consisted of 2 weeks each lasting 7 days with 12 cows per treatment. Aflatoxin M1 concentrations were analysed by HPLC for milk samples collected on days 5–7 and days 11–14. In various experiments, treatments included control (no EFA), 100 g/cow daily of experimental Lallemand® product, 10 g/cow daily of MTB‐100®‐2004, (Alltech, Inc.), 10 g/cow daily of MTB‐100®‐2006, (Alltech, Inc.), 10 g/cow daily of experimental Alltech® product (Alltech, Inc.) and 227 g/cow daily of Astra‐Ben 20® (AB‐20®; Prince Agri Products, Inc.). In study 3, the experimental period of 2 weeks each lasting 8 days and milk samples were collected from day 4 to 8 and day 11 to 16. Milk samples from study 3 were analysed for AFM1 concentrations by ELISA. For all experiments, changes in AFM1 concentrations because of the addition of EFA’s were calculated. Four of the five EFAs tested in this study had no significant effect on AFM1 concentrations. However, the addition of AB‐20® resulted in a significant decrease in AFM1 concentrations (60.4%). In summary, the addition of AB‐20® to the diet of cattle appears to be effective for significantly reducing AFM1 concentrations in the milk of cows fed an aflatoxin‐contaminated diet.  相似文献

An Ahmed valve implantation with an Ologen® Collagen Matrix (Ologen® CM, Aeon Astron, Leiden, the Netherlands) was performed for the treatment of uncontrolled glaucoma in a cat. This cat was a 5‐year‐old castrated Russian Blue male with a 12‐week history of conjunctival hyperemia and mydriasis of the left eye. During the ophthalmic examination, the intraocular pressure (IOP) oculus sinister (OS) was 52 mmHg, and a narrow iridocorneal angle (ICA) was detected by gonioscopy. Medical treatment with Cosopt® (2% dorzolamide and 0.5% timolol) failed to decrease the IOP. The left eye still had vision, and an Ahmed valve implantation was performed. During the gonioimplantation, Ologen® CM was used to inhibit scar formation around the valve. Following the operation, the IOP was stable at an approximate average of 15 mmHg during the 7‐month follow‐up period, and vision in the left eye was retained without medication. An adequate subconjunctival filtering bleb was formed after 140 days. This is the first case report in which an Ahmed valve gonioimplant with an Ologen® CM has been used for the surgical treatment of glaucoma in a cat.  相似文献

Use of compounded L‐asparaginase became routine in veterinary oncology when manufacturing of Elspar® was discontinued in 2012. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety of compounded L‐asparaginase (CLASP, KRS Global Biotechnology, Boca Raton, FL, USA) in comparison with Elspar® (Lundbeck LLC, Deerfield, IL, USA). In addition, we documented the response to CLASP in combination with a corticosteroid in this population of dogs with lymphoma. Dogs were prospectively treated with 10 000 IU/m2 CLASP or Elspar® subcutaneously. Corticosteroids were administered concurrently. Adverse events (AE) were assessed according to the Veterinary Cooperative Oncology Group Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v1.1 (VCOG‐CTCAE). Response was recorded. Seventy‐three dogs received 75 treatments (CLASP, n = 47; Elspar®, n = 28). No AE were attributed to CLASP. Grade I and II AE probably or possibly related to treatment were observed following two Elspar® treatments. The overall response rate to the combination of CLASP and a corticosteroid was 80% (24% CR and 56% PR). In combination with a steroid, the compounded L‐asparaginase evaluated in this study is safe and demonstrates activity against canine lymphoma. In the face of the discontinuation of Elspar®, veterinarians should seek compounded LASP products that have been tested for activity, purity, and sterility.  相似文献

The efficacy and acceptability of the new oral phosphate binder Lenziaren® (SBR759) were evaluated in healthy cats fed with a commercial diet containing low amounts of phosphate (‘renal diet’). Lenziaren® at 0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 g/day was compared to a reference product Lantharenol® (3.0 g/day) and a placebo in a masked, randomized, parallel‐group design study in 36 cats (n = 6 per group). All products were mixed with the ration which was fed once daily for 28 days. Lenziaren® produced significant dose‐related reductions in serum and urine phosphate concentrations, faecal apparent phosphorus digestibility and fractional urinary phosphate excretion. Cats administered Lenziaren® consumed significantly less food than the placebo group, but this had no negative impact on body weight or acceptability assessments. When compared to the positive control, Lantharenol®, Lenziaren® was significantly more acceptable (0.125, 0.5 and 1.0 g/day doses), was associated with higher food consumption (0.125, 0.5 and 1.0 g/day doses) and had greater efficacy in reducing serum phosphate (0.5 and 1.0 g/day) and urine phosphate concentrations (1.0 g/day). In conclusion, Lenziaren® was an effective oral phosphate binder in healthy cats fed with a renal diet. Lenziaren® was well accepted and tolerated. Dosages of 0.25–1.0 g/cat per day are recommended for clinical testing.  相似文献

The association between quarter somatic-cell counts (QSCCs) of milk and the risk of clinical mastitis (CM) was investigated in a 1-year study on three dairy herds in Somerset, UK. The three herds had 95-130 milking cows and an annual mean bulk milk somatic-cell count (BMSCC) of <150 x 10(3)cells/ml. The farms were visited every 4-6 weeks at morning milking when quarter-milk samples were collected. The farmers recorded all cases of CM and were trained to collect sterile milk samples from affected quarters, before treatment for bacteriology. The three herds had CM incidence rates of 25.4, 55.2, and 67.6 quarter-cases per 100 cow-years. Escherichia coli and Streptococcus uberis were cultured from approximately 50% of cases. QSCC was categorised and the risk of CM occurring in the month after the QSCC was examined using multilevel models to account for the correlated nature of the dependent data. Three models were developed: one for all cases of CM, one for those caused by coliforms and one for those caused by S. uberis. When all cases of CM were considered, quarters with somatic-cell count (SCC) 21-100 x 10(3)cells/ml had reduced odds (OR=0.60, P=0.06) and quarters with SCC >200 x 10(3)cells/ml has over three time the odds (OR=3.7, P<0.01) of CM compared with QSCC 1-20 x 10(3)cells/ml. When only coliform CM were investigated, quarters with SCC 6-200 x 10(3)cells/ml had reduced odds of coliform CM (OR=0.47, P=0.04) compared with QSCC 1-5 x 10(3)cells/ml, and SCC >200 x 10(3)cells/ml were not significantly different from the baseline. Finally, when S. uberis CM were investigated, quarters with SCC >200 x 10(3)cells/ml had more than three times the odds of S. uberis CM compared with QSCC 1-20 x 10(3)cells/ml (OR=3.73, P<0.01). QSCC <21 x 10(3) and >200 x 10(3)cells/ml are associated with increased odds of CM in the following 4-6 weeks; this association may be pathogen specific.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate home‐made and commercial extenders for the cryopreservation of Rusa deer semen. After collection by electroejaculation, six ejaculates were diluted and frozen in TES‐based, Tris‐based and Triladyl® extenders. Subjective motility, viability, morphology, acrosome integrity and membrane functionality were assessed post‐thawing and after 1‐hr incubation at 37°C (Thermal stress test). Total and progressive motility, and kinematic parameters were also assessed through CASA system. Post‐thawing sperm progressive motility (PM), velocity according to the straight path (VSL) and linearity (LIN) showed significant differences, and higher values were detected for spermatozoa diluted with Triladyl® and TES (p < 0.05) as compared with Tris (PM of Triladyl® 14.7% vs. 3.2% TES and 2.5% Tris; VSL 56 for Triladyl®, 59.2 for TES and 41.7 for Tris; LIN 45.6 for Triladyl®, 52 for TES and 36.5 for Tris). Triladyl® and TES extender led to better post‐thawing sperm parameters, but these preliminary results need to be verified through artificial insemination trials.  相似文献

A recrystallized form of enrofloxacin as dehydrate‐HCl (enro‐C) was assessed for bacteriological and clinical cure efficacies in Holstein‐Friesian cows affected of nonsevere clinical mastitis. Treatments were enro‐Csusp (n = 81), treated with a pharmaceutical suspension of enro‐C/quarter; group enro‐Cpd (n = 80) treated as above, but using enro‐C powder suspended in water; group CF (n = 65), treated with ceftiofur HCl/quarter; and group enroR (n = 66), treated with standard enrofloxacin solution (5 mg/kg, intramuscular). Cows had a mean milk production of 31 L/day and were 2‐3 lactational periods old. Treatments were administered every 24 hr for 3 days. Groups treated with enro‐C exhibited statistically significant (p > .05) better clinical cure as compared to groups treated with CF or enroR (95.06%, 96.25%, 67.79%, and 57.55%, for enro‐Csusp, enro‐Cpd, CF, and enroR, respectively). In contrast, probability of bacteriological cure was not statistically different among treatments. Yet, the outstanding clinical and bacteriological cure rates obtained for enro‐C for nonsevere cases of mastitis is superior to previously reported data for parenteral enrofloxacin and other antibacterial‐intramammary treatments. Impact of using enro‐C on the rate and pattern of bacterial resistance, somatic cell counts and milk electric conductivity, must be studied. Also, the use of enro‐C for complicated cases of mastitis should be studied and milk withdrawal times must be accurately established.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the association between the oestrous response of pre‐pubertal gilts to gonadotrophin injection or boar exposure and their subsequent farrowing rate and litter size. At 154 days of age, randomly selected pre‐pubertal gilts received an intramuscular injection of 400 IU equine chorionic gonadotrophin plus 200 IU human chorionic gonadotrophin (PG600®; Merck Animal Health; n = 181). From the remaining pool of animals not treated with hormones, the first gilts showing signs of oestrus were selected to act as controls (n = 201). Boar exposure began at 155 days of age for both groups, and gilts were bred at a weight of approximately 130 kg. Comparisons were made between PG600®‐treated gilts exhibiting oestrus or not within 7 days post‐injection (early and late responders, respectively) and control gilts exhibiting oestrus or not within 30 days after beginning of boar exposure (select and non‐select control gilts, respectively). By 162 days, oestrus was detected in 67.5% of PG600®‐treated gilts compared with 5.7% of control gilts (p < 0.0001). The proportion of animals observed in oestrus at least three times before breeding was greater for select control gilts compared with early and late responder PG600®‐treated gilts (p  0.001). There were no significant differences in farrowing rate and litter size between the four treatment groups. These data indicate that PG600® is an effective tool to induce an earlier oestrus in gilts, that subsequent farrowing rate and born alive litter size compare favourably to that of select gilts and that gilts failing to respond promptly to hormonal stimulation do not exhibit compromised fertility.  相似文献

Straws of sex‐sorted sperm are usually packaged at a low concentration (e.g., ~2.1 × 106 sperm/ml) and cost significantly more than unsorted conventional semen from the same sire. In order to maximize the efficiency of using sex‐sorted sperm under in vitro fertilization conditions, the selection of an appropriate sperm separation technique is essential. In this study, the effect of using different silane‐coated silica colloid dilutions and layering configurations during centrifugation of sex‐sorted sperm was examined over an extended period of incubation time. Sperm recovery and viability after centrifugation using the colloid separation technique were measured along with several sperm motility parameters using CASA. For this purpose, frozen and thawed sex‐sorted sperm samples were centrifuged using mini‐volume single‐layer (40%, 60% and 80%) and mini‐volume two‐layer (45%/90%, 40%/80% and 30%/60%) separation configurations using PureSperm®. A single layer of 40% PureSperm® recovered significantly more sex‐sorted sperm (78.07% ± 2.28%) followed by a single layer of 80% PureSperm® (68.43% ± 2.33%). The lowest sperm recovery was obtained using a two‐layer PureSperm® dilution of 45%/90% (47.57% ± 2.33%). Single‐layer centrifugation recovered more sorted sperm (68.67% ± 1.74%) than two layer (53.74% ± 1.74%) (< .0001). A single layer of 80% PureSperm® exhibited the highest sorted sperm viability (72.01% ± 2.90%) after centrifugation (< .05). The mini‐volume single layer of 80% PureSperm® was determined to be an effective alternative to a two‐layer centrifugation configuration for sex‐sorted sperm selection. In addition, single‐layer colloid dilution of 80% performed either as well as or significantly outperformed the other treatments, as well as the control, with regard to motility (MOT) for all time periods of analysis.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to investigate the safety of a combination tablet of benazepril and pimobendan, Fortekor PLUS®, in a randomized, blinded, parallel‐group design study in healthy adult beagle dogs. The test article, Fortekor PLUS® tablets, was administered orally twice daily for 6 months at one, two, and four times the highest recommended dosage of 0.5 mg/kg benazepril hydrochloride/0.25 mg/kg pimobendan (four males and four females per group). An additional control group was sham‐dosed. Fortekor PLUS® did not induce any treatment‐related effects on body weight, food consumption, neurological, ophthalmologic or physical assessments over the 6‐month treatment period. The test article was possibly associated with an increased frequency of occasional vomiting. Fortekor PLUS® was associated with small, but significant, increases in heart rate and reductions in PR and QT intervals, which were assessed by electrocardiography. These effects were most probably related to reflex tachycardia secondary to reduced systemic blood pressure. Statistically significant changes in some clinical pathology variables were noted after test article administration, but were considered to be of no clinical relevance as values remained within reference ranges and/or were not dose‐dependent. No treatment‐related macroscopic or microscopic findings were observed. In conclusion, Fortekor PLUS® tablets were well tolerated in healthy adult dogs when administered at one, two, and four times the highest recommended dosage for 6 months.  相似文献

In dairy cows, exogenous α‐amylase is suggested to improve starch utilization and positively affect performance and health traits linked to energy balance and fertility. In a 1‐year feeding experiment, 421 cows were orally supplemented with α‐amylase (treatment: 12.5 g/kg dry matter (DM) addition rate to a concentrated feed) or non‐supplemented (control) on the basis of an ad libitum total mixed ration (TMR). Every cow was allocated to a high‐ (≥32 kg milk/day) or late‐lactation group (<32 kg milk/day), in which the TMR starch content was 220 ± 20.8 g/kg DM and 183 ± 24.8 g/kg DM, respectively. The energetic effect of α‐amylase supplementation seemed to be exclusively related to the high‐lactation stage (5–100 days in milk) in primiparous cows, where the daily milk yield was 32 ± 0.49 versus 31 ± 0.50 kg per cow in the treatment versus control group (< 0.05). The pluriparous cows did not benefit from the supplementation that way. In neither primiparous nor pluriparous cows, was the milk composition, the fat‐to‐protein ratio, the somatic cell score, the backfat thickness, serum total bilirubin, β‐hydroxybutyrate and the fertility found to be systematically affected by α‐amylase supplementation.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the efficacy of intra-mammary-administered cefquinome for the treatment of sub-clinical mastitis in lactating dairy cows and to determine if extended therapy would enhance treatment efficacy. Seventy-three Holstein dairy cows from a single farm with 150 infected quarters were enrolled in the study. Infected cows were allocated randomly to one of three treatment regimens: (1) conventional (standard) regimen: 75 mg of cefquinome administered three times at 16-h intervals (25 infected cows, 52 intra-mammary infections (IMI)), (2) extended regimen: 75 mg of cefquinome administered six times at 16-h intervals (26 infected cows, 58 IMI) and (3) negative untreated control group (22 cows, 40 IMI). Most IMI were caused by coagulase-negative staphylococci, streptococci other than Streptococcus agalactiae and coliforms. The overall bacteriological cure (BC) rates for sub-clinical IMI were 84.61%, 91.37% and 20% for the conventional, extended and the control groups, respectively, indicating a higher BC rate for the treated groups than the control group (P < 0.001). Significant differences in somatic cell count (SCC) were detected between the treated versus the control group (P < 0.001). No differences, concerning the BC rate or SCC, were observed between the extended and the conventional groups. Although fat and protein percentages increased in the treated groups, there were no significant differences in post-treatment milk production between the groups. Results of this study indicate that cefquinome therapy was effective in reducing SCC and eliminating sub-clinical IMI in lactating dairy cows, but extended therapy did not enhance treatment efficacy.  相似文献

Crossbred cows (n = 1073) from five locations had oestrous cycles synchronized with 100 μg of GnRH IM and insertion of controlled internal drug release device (CIDR) on Day 0 followed by 25 mg of PGF IM and CIDR removal on Day 7. Kamar® patches were placed on all cows at CIDR removal. Cows were observed three times daily for oestrus after PGF administration. In the Ovsynch‐CIDR group, cows detected in oestrus (n = 193) within 48 h after PGF were inseminated using the AM–PM rule. Among these cows, 80 received and 113 did not receive a second GnRH at 48 h after PGF. Cows (n = 345) not detected in oestrus received a second GnRH at 48 h after PGF on Day 9, and fixed‐time AI 16 h after the GnRH on Day 10. In the CO‐Synch‐CIDR group, cows detected in oestrus (n = 224) within 48 h after PGF were inseminated using the AM–PM rule. Among these cows, 79 received and 145 did not receive a second GnRH at 64 h after PGF. Cows (n = 311) not detected in oestrus received a second GnRH on Day 10 at the time of AI, 64 h after PGF. The AI pregnancy rates were not different between the Ovsynch‐CIDR and CO‐Synch‐CIDR groups (p = 0.48). There were no differences in the AI pregnancy rates for cows inseminated at a fixed time (p = 0.26) or at detected oestrus (p = 0.79) between the treatment groups. Among cows inseminated in oestrus, there were no differences in the AI pregnancy rates between cows that received or did not receive the second GnRH (p = 0.47). In conclusion, acceptable AI pregnancy rates can be achieved with or without inclusion of oestrus detection in the Ovsynch‐CIDR and CO‐Synch‐CIDR protocols. Among cows detected in oestrus, cows that received a second GnRH yielded similar pregnancy rates when compared with cows that did not receive the second GnRH.  相似文献

Contrast‐enhanced ultrasonography provides a more functional diagnostic image than conventional ultrasonography. This prospective exploratory study compared the novel contrast agent, Visphere?, with commercial contrast agents in five healthy Beagle dogs. Visphere? has the smallest diameter and highest concentration compared with Sonazoid® and SonoVue®. Each dog received an intravenous injection of Visphere?, Sonazoid®, or SonoVue®. Images were recorded for 300, 600, and 60 s in the heart, liver, and left kidney, respectively. The mean pixel values of the regions of interest for each organ were expressed as time intensity curves (TIC). The agents all improved the visualization of left ventricular endocardial border delineation in the heart, and had similar TICs and clinical useful durations. In contrast, Visphere? expressed the highest mean pixel value in the liver parenchyma at an early observation time and maintained the intensity until 600 s, like Sonazoid®. The renal evaluation results indicated there were no statistically significant differences in time‐to‐peak for the renal cortex or medulla among the agents. Compared with the other two agents, SonoVue® had the lowest peak enhancement for the renal cortex and medulla. No dogs had any adverse reactions during or after the study. All three agents provided adequate results for left ventricular endocardial border delineation, and Visphere? may have the same potential as Sonazoid® to detect and characterize hepatic lesions. Visphere? and Sonazoid® may offer better visualization quality to evaluate renal function. In conclusion, the novel contrast agent, Visphere?, is comparable with commercial agents and could be applied in different major organs in dogs.  相似文献

The most significant focal points of the embryo transfer technology are as follows: the selection of donors, the response of the selected donor to the superovulation protocol and the obtained number of the transferable embryos. For this purpose, it is suggested that donor selection can be done by anti‐Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, and embryo production is evaluated. AMH is secreted by the granulosa cells of primordial, pre‐antral and antral follicles below 4 mm in the ovary, independent of FSH. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum AMH levels and the number of corpus luteum (CL), total embryos and transferable embryos that were shaped after a uniform superovulation protocol. For this reason, 48 Simmental cows, which were located at General Directory of Agricultural Enterprises (region, province, etc. instead of the general directorate), were used as donors for the embryo transfer. Blood samples were taken at random, regardless of the stage of animal's sexual cycle. AMH levels were measured by enzyme‐linked fluorescent assay (ELFA) method of the miniVIDAS® (bioMérieux SA) using AMH Bovine Test Kit. According to the statistical analyses of the obtained data, AMH levels were positively correlated with CL and total embryos (p < .05). No significant correlations between AMH and transferable embryos were approved (p > .05). It was also determined that each 200 pg/ml increase in serum AMH level resulted in one increase in CL number. Overall, considering the positive correlation between AMH level and the obtained number of CL and total embryos after a superovulation treatment, it was concluded that measuring blood AMH level prior to any further costly implementation may be an effective method in donor selection.  相似文献

This study was designed to compare the quality of liquid‐stored buffalo bull spermatozoa in soya lecithin based extender Bioxcell® (BIOX), milk (MILK), tris‐citric egg yolk (TEY) and egg yolk‐citrate (EYC) extender at 5°C. Semen was collected from five Nili‐Ravi buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) bulls of 6–7 years of age with artificial vagina over a period of 3 weeks (two consecutive ejaculates once in a week). Semen ejaculates having more than 60% motility were pooled, split into four aliquots, diluted (37°C; 10 × 106 motile spermatozoa/ml), cooled from 37 to 5°C in 2 h (0.275°C/min) and stored for 5 days. Sperm motility, viability, plasma membrane integrity (PMI) and normal acrosomal ridge were studied at first, third and fifth day of storage. Higher values of progressive sperm motility (%), sperm viability (%), sperm PMI (%) and normal apical ridge (%) were observed in BIOX, MILK and TEY extenders at first, third and fifth day of storage than EYC extender. Progressive sperm motility, sperm viability and sperm PMI in BIOX® extender were not different from MILK and TEY extenders at 1st and third day storage period. However, at fifth day of storage, the values for these parameters remained significantly higher (p < 0.05) in BIOX® compared with MILK, TEY and EYC extenders. At fifth day of storage, the semen quality parameters for Bioxcell® were comparable to those with MILK and TEY extenders at third day of storage. In conclusion, motility, viability and PMI of buffalo bull spermatozoa remained similar in Bioxcell®, milk and TEY extender at first and third days of storage at 5°C. Yet, the values for the aforementioned parameters in Bioxcell® were higher compared with milk, TEY and EYC extender at fifth day of storage at 5°C.  相似文献

In recent years, aquaculture research has focused on probiotics, prebiotics, and β‐glucans, in order to improve health status and growth performance. Information regarding the effects of β‐glucan on growth performance and intestinal immunity of mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) is scarce. An experiment was therefore conducted to investigate the effects of a yeast β‐glucan preparation (MacroGard®) on growth performance, intestinal morphology and haemato‐immunological indices of mirror carp. Carp (initial weight 11.1 ± 0.0 g) were fed highly purified diets supplemented with 0% (control), 0.1%, 1% or 2% MacroGard® for 8 weeks. Fish fed diets containing 1% and 2% MacroGard® showed significant improvements in weight gain, specific growth rate and feed conversion ratio compared to fish fed both the control and the 0.1% MacroGard® containing diet. Histological appraisal of the intestine showed a significantly higher infiltration of leucocytes into the epithelial layer of fish fed diets supplemented with 1% and 2% MacroGard® in the anterior intestine compared to fish fed the control and 0.1% MacroGard® diet. This effect was not observed in the posterior intestine. There were no significant differences in the intestinal absorptive surface area and number of goblet cells in either intestinal region. At the end of the experiment, the haematological status of the fish was examined. Compared to control fed fish, the haematocrit value was significantly elevated in fish fed the 2% MacroGard® diet. Furthermore, the blood monocyte fraction was significantly higher in fish fed the 1% and 2% MacroGard® diets. No significant changes were observed in the other blood parameters assessed. The present study shows that high dietary β‐glucan inclusion increases growth performance without detrimental effects on the health indicators assessed. Increased intraepithelial leucocytes in the anterior intestine may indicate a localized immune response; no detrimental effects on intestinal morphology were observed.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of β‐carotene supply during the close‐up dry period on the onset of first postpartum luteal activity in dairy cows. Twelve cows were supplied with 2000 mg of β‐carotene (20 g Rovimix®β‐Carotene containing 10%β‐carotene; DSM Nutrition Japan K.K., Tokyo, Japan) by oral administration daily from day 21 before expected calving date to parturition. Fourteen cows (control) did not receive β‐carotene supplementation. Blood samples were obtained on days 21, 14 and 7 before expected calving date and on days 1, 7, 14, 21 postpartum. When the plasma progesterone concentration exceeded 1 ng/ml by day 21 postpartum, luteal activity was assumed to have been initiated. The result showed that serum β‐carotene concentrations in the β‐carotene cows were higher than in the control cows during the experimental period (p < 0.01). The number of cows with the onset of luteal activity by day 21 postpartum was 9/12 in the β‐carotene cows and 4/14 in the control cows (p < 0.05). Retinol, certain metabolic parameters and metabolic hormones concentrations did not differ between β‐carotene and control cows. In addition, serum retinol concentration in β‐carotene cows without luteal activity was lower than in β‐carotene cows with luteal activity (p < 0.05), and serum gamma‐glutamyl transpeptidase concentration in β‐carotene cows with luteal activity (p < 0.05) and control cows without luteal activity (p < 0.01) was higher than in control cows with luteal activity. In conclusion, β‐carotene supply during the close‐up dry period may support the onset of luteal activity during early lactation in dairy cows.  相似文献

A 12‐year‐old spayed female Shiba Inu dog was referred to our hospital for a suspected mast cell tumor (MCT) of the bone marrow (BM). Laboratory abnormalities included severe nonregenerative anemia (packed cell volume or PCV: 12.5%; reference interval (RI): 37.3‐61.7%; reticulocytes: 35.1 × 103/µL; RI: 10‐110 × 103/µL), and a few mast cells were visualized in the blood smear examination. The BM was hypercellular with hematopoietic cells, a decreased myeloid:erythroid (M:E) ratio (0.77; RI, 0.9‐1.8), and no dysplastic hematopoietic cells. Mast cells accounted for 11.5% of the total nucleated BM cells. Neoplastic mast cells and histiocytes phagocytizing erythroid progenitor cells were occasionally noted. The dog was diagnosed with precursor‐targeted immune‐mediated anemia (PIMA) concurrent and a stage IV MCT infiltrating the BM. Multimodal treatment included toceranib, imatinib, vinblastine, lomustine (CCNU), prednisolone, cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil, and a blood transfusion. The dog died due to MCT progression lasting 139 days after the initial BM examination. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a dog presenting with PIMA and a stage IV MCT infiltrating the BM.  相似文献

This study assessed the accuracy of the commercial BioPRYN® ELISA for the detection of pregnancy‐specific protein‐B (PSPB) using a single blood sample to determine pregnancy status in American bison (Bison bison). A total of 49 bison cows were used in the study, and sampled at two time‐points during the gestation period, fall and spring, correlating with early‐ to mid‐term gestation (average 62.9 days post‐mating) and mid‐ to late‐term gestation (average 229.2 days post‐mating), respectively. Sensitivity of the test during early‐ to mid‐term gestation sampling period (fall) was 87.1%, while specificity was 100%; sensitivity of the test during late‐term gestation sampling period (spring) was 96.3%, while specificity remained at 100%. In total, the test showed a total sensitivity of 91.4%, specificity of 100% and total accuracy of 93.8%, similar to domestic cattle. Use of the single‐sample BioPRYN® ELISA in American Bison for pregnancy diagnosis is economical and practical, minimizing animal handling time, frequency and subsequent stress while providing accurate results for pregnancy diagnosis at 62 days post‐mating. This method should be considered over more traditional pregnancy diagnosis methods for use in managed bison herds.  相似文献
