A pot culture experiment was carried out to study the growth of and Cu uptake by maize (Zea mays) inoculated with or without arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus Acaulospora mellea in sterilized soil with different Cu amounts added (0, 100, 200, 400, 800 mg kg−1). Root colonization rates were significantly lower with the addition of 400 and 800 mg kg−1 Cu. AM inoculation increased shoot dry weights at 200 and 400 mg kg−1 Cu added but showed no effects at other levels, while increased root dry weights at all Cu addition levels except 800 mg kg−1. Compared with the nonmycorrhizal plants, shoot Cu concentrations in mycorrhizal plants were higher when no Cu was added but lower at other levels, while root Cu concentrations were lower at 400 and 800 mg kg−1 Cu added but not affected at other levels. Thus, shoot Cu uptake in mycorrhizal plants increased with no Cu added but decreased at other levels, while mycorrhizal effects on root Cu uptake varied. Compared with nonmycorrhizal controls, Cu uptake efficiency and phytoextraction efficiency in mycorrhizal plants were higher when no Cu was added but lower at other levels, and Cu translocation efficiency was lower at all Cu addition levels. AM inoculation improved shoot and root P nutrition at all Cu addition levels. Soil pH was higher in mycorrhizal treatment than in the control when 200 mg kg−1 or more Cu was added. These results indicate that A. mellea ZZ may be not suitable for Cu phytoextraction by maize, but shows a potential role in phytostabilization of soil moderately polluted by Cu.  相似文献

The toxic effects of single and joint stress of Cd (cadmium) and Phe (phenanthrene) on enchytraeid Fridericia bulbosa were investigated by natural soil tests. Mortality of single and joint stress of Cd and Phe was significant (p < 0.01) except the lowest concentration of single pollutant. There was a positive correlation between mortality and the concentration of pollutant added to soil. Also, the more exposed to single or joint Cd and Phe, the more morality. For joint pollution, Cd was the main contributive factor of toxic effects, the different concentration and interaction of Cd and Phe significantly influenced mortality (p < 0.01). The joint effects of Cd and Phe were additive, after a 14-d exposure. When Phe was 0.1 mg kg−1 and 1.6 mg kg−1, the interactive effects between Cd and Phe were synergistic. When Phe was 25.6 mg kg−1, the interactive effects were antagonistic. It suggested that morality may be considered as a valuable and sensitive biomarker to diagnose adverse effects of Cd or Phe in soil environment.  相似文献

Traditionally, three threshold levels have been accepted for heavy metal concentrations in agricultural soils, depending on soil pH. The aim of this work was to ascertain how the three threshold values proposed for Cd (3, 6.5, and 12.5 mg kg?1) and Zn (300, 650, and 1300 mg kg?1) really affect soil microbial activity. Two soils, a scrubland soil and a forest soil, differing widely in their organic C content, were used in this study. Despite the different soil characteristics, the fractions of Cd and Zn extracted with a solution of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) showed little difference between soils. Parameters, such as microbial biomass C (Cmic), soil basal respiration (BR), adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content, dehydrogenase activity (DHA), urease activity (UA), alkaline phosphatase activity (APA), and β-glucosidase (β-GA), were less affected by heavy metals in the forest soil than in the scrubland soil. In general, the simultaneous addition of both metals had a synergistic effect on microbial activity, and this treatment produced a significant decrease of microbial activity of both soils with respect to control. The highest level (L3) of Cd, Zn and Cd + Zn treatments produced significant decrease of microbial and biochemical parameters in both soils.  相似文献

土法炼锌区大气沉降Pb、Zn、Cd及其对土壤质量的影响   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Dust emissions from smelters, as a major contributor to heavy metal contamination in soils, could severely influence soil quality. Downwind surface soils within 1.5 km of a zinc smelter, which was active for 10 years but ceased in 2000, in Magu Town, Guizhou Province, China were selected to examine Pb, Zn, and Cd concentrations and their fractionation along a distance gradient from a zinc smelter, and to study the possible effects of Pb, Zn, and Cd accumulation on soil microorganisms by comparing with a reference soil located at a downwind distance of 10 km from the zinc smelter. Soils within 1.5 km of the zinc smelter accumulated high levels of heavy metals Zn (508 mg kg-1), Pb (95.6 mg kg-1), and Cd (5.98 mg kg-1) with low ratios of Zn/Cd (59.1--115) and Pb/Cd (12.4--23.4). Composite pollution indices (CPIs) of surface soils (2.52--15.2) were 3 to 13 times higher than the reference soils. In metal accumulated soils, exchangeable plus carbonate-bound fractions accounted for more than 10% of the total Zn, Pb, and Cd. The saturation degree of metals (SDM) in soils within 1.5 km of the smelter (averaging 1.25) was six times higher than that of the reference soils (0.209). A smaller soil microbial biomass was found more frequently in metal accumulated soils (85.1--438 μg C g-1) than in reference soils (497 μg C g-1), and a negative correlation (P < 0.01) of soil microbial biomass carbon to organic carbon ratio (Cmic/Corg) with SDM was observed. Microbial consumption of carbon sources was more rapid in contaminated soils than in reference soils, and a shift in the substrate utilization pattern was apparent and was negatively correlated with SDM (R = -0.773, P < 0.01). Consequently, dust deposited Pb, Zn, and Cd in soils from zinc smelting were readily mobilized, and weredetrimental to soil quality mainly in respect of microbial biomass.  相似文献

The Tai Lake Region (TLR) is traditionally an ecologically sustainable agricultural area due to the intensive application of traditional organic fertilizer. However in the past 50 years, agricultural management practices such as fertilizer usage and cropping systems changed this situation. In order to investigate how these changes affected soil chemical properties and ultimately the sustainability of agriculture production, a case study was conducted in Taicang County in the TLR. It was found that soil organic carbon (SOC) content significantly decreased from 22.8 g kg−1 in 1959 to 12.9 g kg−1 in 1981 while soil total nitrogen (TN) increased significantly from 1.2 g kg−1 in 1959 to 1.6 g kg−1 in 1981 due to the application of mineral fertilizer especially N fertilizer nearly entirely replacing of traditional organic fertilizer, and then both slightly increased to 14.0 g kg−1 and 1.7 g kg−1, respectively in 2004. Soil total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK), and available K (AK) contents showed little changes from 1981 to 2004 but soil available P (AP) content increased significantly from 7 mg kg−1 in 1981 to 26 mg kg−1 in 2004. The changes of soil properties from 1959 to 1981 were attributed to the changes of fertilizer usage and the changes of soil properties from 1981 to 2004 were attributed to the changes of cropping systems and fertilizer application, particularly vegetable production which resulted in the significant changes of fertilizer usage.  相似文献

The ultimate goal of soil remediation is to restore soil health. Soil microbial parameters are considered to be effective indicators of soil health. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of phytoextraction on microbial properties through the measurement of soil microbial biomass carbon, soil basal respiration and enzyme activities. For this purpose, a pre-stratified rhizobox experiment was conducted with the Cd hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii H. for phytoextraction Cd from an artificial contaminated soil (15.81 mg kg−1) under greenhouse conditions. The plant and soil samples were collected after growing the plant for three and six months with three replications. The results indicated that the ecotype of S. alfredii H. originating from an ancient silver mining site was a Cd-hyperaccumulator as it showed high tolerance to Cd stress, the shoot Cd concentration were as high as 922.6 mg kg−1 and 581.9 mg kg−1 at the two samplings, and it also showed high BF (58.4 and 36.8 after 3 and 6 months growth), and TF (5.8 and 5.1 after 3 and 6 months growth). The amounts of Cd accumulated in the shoots of S. alfredii reached to an average of 1206 μg plant−1 after 6 months growth. Basal respiration, invertase and acid phosphatase activities of the rhizosphere soil separated by the shaking method were significantly higher (P < 0.01) than that of the near-rhizosphere soil and the unplanted soil after 3 months growth, so were microbial biomass carbon, urease, invertase and acid phosphatase activities of the rhizosphere soil after 6 months growth. Acid phosphatase activity of the 0–2 mm sub-layer rhizosphere soil collected by the pre-stratified method after 3 months growth was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than that of other sub-layer rhizosphere soils and bulk soil, and so were microbial biomass carbon, basal respiration, urease, invertase and acid phosphatase activities of the 0–2 mm sub-layer rhizosphere soil after 6 months growth. It was concluded that phytoextraction by S. alfredii could improve soil microbial properties, especially in rhizosphere, and this plant poses a great potential for the remediation of Cd contaminated soil.  相似文献

Purpose

Combining biodegradable chelating agents with phytoextraction is an efficient technique to amend metal-contaminated soils, but most studies have addressed remediation efficiency rather than a comprehensive understanding of the interactions among plant stress, metal accumulation, and metal bioavailability. This study aimed to investigate the effects of biodegradable chelating agents on improving the efficiency of phytoextraction for cobalt (Co)-contaminated soil by sweet alyssum (Lobularia maritima (L.)) and to explore the interrelationships among plant stress, Co accumulation, and Co bioavailability.

Materials and methods

Sweet alyssum (three plants per pot) was grown in pots containing soil with Co added at 0, 40, and 60 mg kg?1, respectively. After 70 days of growth, we added four biodegradable chelating agents (EDDS, NTA, CA, and OA) at various concentrations (0, 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5 mmol kg?1). The plants were harvested after 7 days, and the biomass, reactive oxygen species (ROS) parameters, Co concentrations of the shoot and root, and available Co content in the soil were analyzed.

Results and discussion

The results demonstrate that chelating agents significantly (p?<?0.05) improved the phytoextraction capability of sweet alyssum and influenced plant growth and stress. The capability of EDDS to activate Co was higher than that of other chelating agents at identical concentrations in Co-contaminated soils. Furthermore, we observed that a moderate concentration (40 mg kg?1) of Co could promote plant growth and that high concentrations of Co (60 mg kg?1) and EDDS (7.5 mmol kg?1) cause enhanced stress to plant growth, even resulting in lower shoot Co accumulation than that in the moderate EDDS treatment (5.0 mmol kg?1).

Conclusions

The present study demonstrates that the application of EDDS may be a better choice for Co phytoextraction than NTA, CA, and OA; nevertheless, a high concentration of EDDS may enhance the negative effects on plant growth, physiological traits, and Co accumulation.

The effects of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) at five different doses from 10 to 1000 mg kg−1 soil on biological properties were investigated over a period of 56 days. Meanwhile, the dissipation of DEHP was also monitored. The results indicated that the microbial biomass C (Cmic) fluctuated at around 70 mg kg−1 soil for the control, whereas the Cmic varied significantly for the soil samples contaminated by DEHP. The catalase activities in all five treatments were stimulated at most time, and the activities of phosphatase in the soils treated by DEHP with 500 mg kg−1 or 1000 mg kg−1 were significantly higher than the other treatments from the 20th day. Urease was more sensitive and inhibited significantly during the initial period of incubation. Additionally, the dose–response relationship of invertase was presented in the later phase of incubation. The activities of urease and invertase might indicate soil perturbations caused by the introduction of DEHP. The dissipation of DEHP was found to follow the pseudo first-order kinetics behavior.  相似文献

Salinisation of soil is a problem in many parts of the world especially in agricultural lands that could also be contaminated with metals from pesticide use. This study aimed to derive a quality criterion standard in a defined substrate with the eventual aim of protecting earthworms against salinity, and to assess the influence of salinity on partitioning of, uptake in and toxicity of zinc to earthworms. To achieve this, two experiments were conducted with specimens of Eisenia fetida exposed in the laboratory for 28 days using OECD artificial soil spiked with either NaCl (experiment 1) or combination of Zn and NaCl (experiment 2). In the first experiment, NaCl was added in the following concentrations: 0, 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg kg−1 NaCl. Mortality, growth and cocoon production were assessed at day 28. The results showed 28-day LC50 of 5436 mg kg−1 for NaCl. The EC50s for growth and cocoon production were 4985 and 2020 mg kg−1 NaCl, respectively. In the second experiment, Zn, added as ZnCl2 in a range of sub-lethal concentrations (0, 250, 500, 750 mg kg−1 Zn) was combined with 0, 2000 or 4000 mg kg−1 NaCl. The endpoints: mortality, weight change, and the internal zinc concentration were assessed at day 1, 7, 14 and 28 while cocoon production was assessed only at day 28. Apart from the total zinc concentration in the substrates, DTPA and CaCl2 extractable Zn concentrations were also determined at day 1 and 28 to assess how salinity influenced the partitioning of this metal in the substrates. There was a significant increase in CaCl2 and DTPA extractable Zn in the substrates as salinity increased suggesting that salinity influenced the partitioning of Zn in the substrates. Weight and mortality of worms were not significantly affected by NaCl and Zn as individual substances, but in combination both had significant effects on these parameters. In contrast, cocoon production was significantly affected by increased NaCl and Zn administered as individual substances, and the effects were more severe when both substances were present. The apparent synergy between Zn and NaCl could not be fully explained by internal zinc concentrations in the worms. It could, however, be partly explained by Cl effect from the addition of Zn as ZnCl2. It is concluded that salinity resulting from increased NaCl had an additive to synergistic effect in combination with Zn, in influencing toxicity to these earthworms.  相似文献

Broiler chicken (Gallus gallus) manure, a rich source of plant nutrients, is generated in large quantities in southeastern USA where many row crops, such as corn (Zea mays L.), are also extensively grown. However, the use of broiler manure as an economical alternative source of nutrients for corn production has not been extensively explored in this region. This study was conducted to examine the use of broiler litter as a source of nutrients for corn production, as influenced by tillage and litter rate, and any residual effects following application. In addition, the consequence of litter application to soil test nutrient levels, particularly P, Zn and Cu, was explored. The treatments consisted of two rates of broiler litter application, 11 and 22 Mg ha−1 on a wet weight basis, and one rate of chemical fertilizer applied under no-till and conventional tillage systems. Treatments were replicated three times in a randomized complete block design. Corn was grown with broiler litter and inorganic fertilizer applied to the same plots each year from 1998 to 2001. In 2002 and 2003, corn was planted no-till, but only N fertilizer was applied in order to make use of other residual litter nutrients. Soil samples were taken yearly in the spring prior to litter application and 4 years after the cessation of litter application to evaluate the status of the residual nutrients in soil. Two years out of the 4-year experiment, broiler litter application produced significantly greater corn grain yield than equivalent chemical fertilizer application and produced similar grain yield in the other 2 years. Corn grain yield was significantly greater under no-till in 1999, but significantly greater under conventional-till in 2000, and no difference between the two tillage systems were observed in 1998 and 2001. With 4 years of litter application, Mehlich-3 P increased from an initial 18 mg kg−1 to 156 mg kg−1 with 11 Mg ha−1 litter and to 257 mg kg−1 with 22 Mg ha−1 litter. For every 6 kg ha−1 of P applied in poultry litter Mehlich-3 P was increased by 1 mg kg−1. Modest increases in Mehlich-3 Cu and Zn did not result in phytotoxic levels. This study indicated that an optimum rate of broiler litter as a primary fertilizer at 11 Mg ha−1 applied in 4 consecutive years on a silt loam soil produced corn grain yields similar to chemical fertilizer under both no-till and conventional tillage systems and kept soil test P, Cu and Zn levels below values considered to be harmful to surface water quality or the crop.  相似文献

Due to frequent soil Cd contamination and wide use of butachlor in China, there is a need to assess their combined toxicity to soil microorganisms. The combined effects of cadmium (Cd,10 mg kg-1 soil) and herbicide butachlor (10,50,and 100 mg kg-1 soil) on enzyme activities and microbial community structure in a paddy soil were assessed using the traditional enzyme assays and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. The results showed that urease and phosphatase activities were significantly reduced by high butachlor concentration (100 mg kg-1 soil). When the concentrations of Cd and butachlor added were at a ratio of 1:10,urease and phosphatase activities were significantly decreased whereas enzyme activities were greatly improved at the ratio of 1:5,which indicated that the combined effects of Cd and butachlor on soil urease and phosphatase activities depended largely on their addition concentration ratios.Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis showed loss of original bands and appearance of new bands when compared with the control soil.Random amplified polymorphic DNA fingerprints suggested substantial differences between the control and treated soil samples, with apparent changes in the number and size of amplified DNA fragments. The addition of high concentration butachlor and the combined impacts of Cd and butachlor significantly affected the diversity of the microbial community.RAPD analysis in conjunction with other biomarkers such as soil enzyme parameters would prove a powerful ecotoxicological tool.Further investigations should be carried out to understand the clear link between RAPD patterns and enzyme activity.  相似文献

The concentrations of Zn, Cd, Pb and Cu in earthworm tissues were compared with the total and DTPA-extractable contents of these heavy metals in contaminated soils. Samples were taken from a pasture polluted by waste from a metallurgic industry over 70 y ago. Three individuals of Aporrectodea caliginosa and Lumbricus rubellus and soil samples were collected at six points along a gradient of increasing pollution. Total metal contents of earthworms, soil, and metals extracted by DTPA from the soil were measured. Total heavy metal contents of the soils ranged from 165.7 to 1231.7 mg Zn kg−1, 2.7 to 5.2 mg Cd kg−1, 45.8 to 465.5 mg Pb kg−1 and 30.0 to 107.5 mg Cu kg−1. Their correlations with metals extracted by DTPA were highly significant. Contents of the metals in earthworm tissues were higher in A. caliginosa than in L. rubellus, with values ranging from 556 to 3381 mg Zn kg−1, 11.6 to 102.9 mg Cd kg−1, 1.9 to 182.8 mg Pb kg−1 and 17.9 to 35.9 mg Cu kg−1 in A. caliginosa, and from 667.9 to 2645 mg Zn kg−1, 7.7 to 26.3 mg Cd kg−1, 0.5 to 37.9 mg Pb kg−1 and 16.0 to 37.6 mg Cu kg−1 in L. rubellus, respectively. Correlations between body loads in earthworms with either total or DTPA-extractable contents of soil metals were significant, except for Cd in L. rubellus and Cu in A. caliginosa. Considering its simple analytical procedure, DTPA-extractable fraction may be preferable to total metal content as a predictor of bio-concentrations of heavy metals in earthworms. Biota-to-Soil Accumulation Factor (BSAF) of these four metals are Cd>Zn>Cu>Pb, with range of mean values between: Cd (6.18-17.02), Zn (1.95-7.91), Cu (0.27-0.89) and Pb (0.08-0.38) in A. caliginosa, and Cd (3.64-6.34), Zn (1.5-6.35), Cu (0.29-0.87) and Pb (0.04-0.13) in L. rubellus. The BSAF of Ca, Fe and Mn are Ca>Mn>Fe, with mean values of: Ca (0.46-1.31), Mn (0.041-0.111), Fe (0.017-0.07) in A. caliginosa and Ca (0.98-2.13), Mn (0.14-0.23), Fe (0.019-0.048) in L. rubellus, respectively. Results of principal component analysis showed that the two earthworm species differ in the pattern of metal bioaccumulation which is related to their ecological roles in contaminated soils.  相似文献

In the mountain rainforest region of the South Ecuadorian Andes natural forests have often been converted to pastures by slash-and-burn practice. With advanced pasture age the pasture grasses are increasingly replaced by the tropical bracken leading to the abandonment of the sites. To improve pasture productivity a fertilisation experiment with urea was established. The effects of urea on soil organic matter (SOM) mineralisation and microbial community structure in top soil (0–5 cm depth) of an active and abandoned pasture site have been investigated in laboratory incubation experiments. Either 14C- or 15N-labelled urea (74 mg urea-N kg−1 dw soil) was added to track the fate of 14C into CO2 or microbial biomass and that of 15N into the KCl-extractable NH4-N or NO3-N or microbial biomass pool. The soil microbial community structure was assessed using phospholipid fatty acid analysis (PLFA). In a second experiment two levels of 14C-labelled urea (74 and 110 mg urea-N kg−1 dw soil) were added to soil from 5 to 10 cm depth of the respective sites. Urea fertilisation accelerated the mineralisation of SOC directly after addition up to 17% compared to the non-fertilised control after 14 days of incubation. The larger the amount of N potentially available per unit of microbial biomass N the larger was the positive priming effect. Since in average 80% of the urea-C had been mineralised already 1 day after amendment, the priming effect was strong enough to cause a net loss of soil C. Although the structure of the microbial community was significantly different between sites, urea fertilisation induced the same alteration in microbial community composition: towards a relative lower abundance of PLFA marker characteristic of Gram-positive bacteria and a higher one of those typical of Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. This change was positively correlated with the increase in NH4, NO3 and DON availability. In addition to the activation of different microbial groups the abolishment of energy limitation of the microbes seemed to be an important mechanism for the enhanced mineralisation of SOM.  相似文献

Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted to study the effects of applications of rice residue and Pongamia pinnata and Azadirachta indica leaf litters on biochemical properties (extraction yield of humus, composition of humus, microbial biomass carbon, activities of urease and acid phosphatase) of a lowland rice soil under flooded conditions. Bulk soil sample collected from the Mandya paddy fields was used for the green house trials and the laboratory incubation studies. The organic materials were added at three rates – zero, 25.0 g carbon kg−1 (2.5% C) and 50.0 g carbon kg−1 dry soil (5.0% C). Results showed that tree leaf litter and rice residue at 5.0% C rate decreased instantaneous decay constant (k), there by retarded the rate of C mineralization. Carbon contents of HA increased with the rate of C added. Study of delta–log K values and C contents of humic acids revealed that greatest molecular weight of HA was in the pongamia litter treatment, followed by neem litter and rice residue. Grain and straw yields of rice crop in the pot culture study were statistically correlated to the soil quality parameters. Neem and pongamia tree litter incorporation at 2.5% C could be considered for improving soil health and crop yields of rice under flooded conditions; however, application at higher rates significantly (P ≤ 0.05) lowered total dry matter production in rice, despite favorable soil health parameters such as humic yields, microbial biomass – C content and acid phosphatase and urease activity. Among different soil health parameters, microbial quotient was found to be more sensitive indicator of decline in soil quality.  相似文献

The CO2 efflux from loamy Haplic Luvisol and heavy metal (HM) uptake by Zea mays L. were studied under increased HM contamination: Cd, Cu, and Ni up to 20, 1000, and 2500 mg kg−1 soil, respectively. Split-root system with contrasting HM concentrations in both soil halves was used to investigate root-mediated HM translocation in uncontaminated soil zones. To separate root-derived and soil organic matter (SOM)-derived CO2 efflux from soil, 14CO2 pulse labeling of 15-, 25-, and 35-days-old plants was applied. The CO2 evolution from the bare soil was 10.6 μg C–CO2 d−1 g−1 (32 kg C–CO2 d−1 ha−1) and was not affected by HM (except 2500 mg Ni kg−1). The average CO2 efflux from the soil with maize was about two times higher and amounted for about 22.0 μg C–CO2 d−1 g−1. Portion of assimilates respired in the rhizosphere decreased with plant development from 6.0 to 7.0% of assimilated C for 25-days-old Zea mays to 0.4–2.0% for 45-days-old maize. The effect of the HM on root-derived 14CO2 efflux increased with rising HM content in the following order: Cd < Cu < Ni. In Cu and Ni contaminated soils, shoot and root dry matter decreased to 70% and to 50% of the uncontaminated control, respectively. Plants contained much more HM in the roots than in the shoots. A split-root system with contrasting HM concentrations allowed to trace transport of mobile forms of HM by roots from contaminated soil half into the uncontaminated soil half. The portion of mobile HM forms in the soil (1 M NH4NO3 extract) increased with contamination and amounted to 9–16%, 2–6% and 1.5–3.5% for Cd, Cu, and Ni, respectively. Corresponding values for the easily available HM (1 M NH4OAc extract) were 22–52%, 1–20% and 5–8.5%. Heavy metal availability for plants decreased in the following order: Cd > Cu ≥ Ni. No increase of HM availability in the soil was found after maize cultivation.  相似文献

Rhizosphere soil microbial index of tree species in a coal mining ecosystem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Microbial characterization of the tree rhizosphere provides important information relating to the screening of tree species for re-vegetation of degraded land. Rhizosphere soil samples collected from a few predominant tree species growing in the coal mining ecosystem of Dhanbad, India, were analyzed for soil organic carbon (SOC), mineralizable N, microbial biomass carbon (MBC), active microbial biomass carbon (AMBC), basal soil respiration (BSR), and soil enzyme activities (dehydrogenase, urease, catalase, phenol oxidase, and peroxidase). Among the tree species studied, Aegle marmelos recorded the highest value for MBC (590 mg kg−1), urease (190.5 μg NH4+-N g−1 h−1), catalase (513 μg H2O2 g−1 h−1), dehydrogenase (92.3 μg TPF g−1 h−1), phenol oxidase (0.057 μM g−1 h−1) and BSR/AMBC (0.498 mg CO2-C mg biomass−1 day−1); Tamarindus indica for mineralizable N (69.5 mg kg−1); Morus alba for catalase (513 μg H2O2 g−1 h−1) and phenol oxidase (0.058 μM g−1 h−1); Tectona grandis for peroxidase (0.276 μM g−1 h−1), AMBC/MBC (99.4%), and BSR/MBC (0.108 mg CO2-C mg biomass−1 day−1); Ficus religiosa for AMBC (128.4 mg kg−1) and BSR (12.85 mg CO2-C kg−1 day−1); Eugenia jambolana for MBC/SOC (8.03%); Butea monosoperma for AMBC/SOC (1.32%) and Azadirachta indica for BSR/AMBC (0.1134 mg CO2-C mg biomass−1 day−1). Principal component analysis was employed to derive a rhizosphere soil microbial index (RSMI) and accordingly, dehydrogenase, BSR/MBC, MBC/SOC, EC, phenol oxidase and AMBC were found to be the most critical properties. The observed values for the above properties were converted into a unitless score (0–1.00) and the scores were integrated into RSMI. The tree species could be arranged in decreasing order of the RSMI as: A. marmelos (0.718), A. indica (0.715), Bauhinia bauhinia (0.693), B. monosperma (0.611), E. jambolana (0.601), Moringa oleifera (0.565), Dalbergia sissoo (0.498), T. indica (0.488), Morus alba (0.415), F. religiosa (0.291), Eucalyptus sp. (0.232) and T. grandis (0.181). It was concluded that tree species in coal mining areas had diverse effects on their respective rhizosphere microbial processes, which could directly or indirectly determine the survival and performance of the planted tree species in degraded coal mining areas. Tree species with higher RSMI values could be recommended for re-vegetation of degraded coal mining area.  相似文献

Copper-based fungicides have been applied in apple orchards for a long time, which has resulted in increasing soil Cu concentration. However, the microbial and enzyme properties of the orchard soils remain poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of long-term application of Cu-based fungicides on soil microbial (microbial biomass carbon (Cmic), C mineralization, and specific respiration rate) and enzyme (urease, acid phosphatase, and invertase activities) properties in apple orchards. Soil samples studied were collected from apple orchards 5, 15, 20, 30, and 45 years old, and one adjacent forest soil as for reference. The mean Cu concentrations of orchard soils significantly increased with increasing orchard ages ranging from 21.8 to 141 mg kg−1, and the CaCl2-extractable soil Cu concentrations varied from 0.00 to 4.26 mg kg−1. The soil mean Cmic values varied from 43.6 to 116 mg kg−1 in the orchard soils, and were lower than the value of the reference soil (144 mg kg−1). The ratio of soil Cmic to total organic C (Corg) increased from 8.10 to 18.3 mg Cmic g−1 Corg with decreasing orchard ages, and was 26.1 mg Cmic g−1 Corg for the reference soil. A significant correlation was observed between total- or CaCl2-extractable soil Cu and soil Cmic or Cmic/Corg, suggesting that the soil Cu was responsible for the significant reductions in Cmic and Cmic/Corg. The three enzyme activity assays also showed the similar phenomena, and declined with the increasing orchard ages. The mean soil C mineralization rates were elevated from 110 to 150 mg CO2-C kg−1 soil d−1 compared with the reference soil (80 mg CO2-C kg−1 soil d−1), and the mean specific respiration rate of the reference soil (0.63 mg CO2-C mg−1 biomass C d−1) was significantly smaller than the orchard soils from 1.19 to 3.55 mg CO2-C mg−1 biomass C d−1. The soil C mineralization rate and the specific respiration rate can be well explained by the CaCl2-extractable soil Cu. Thus, the long-term application of copper-based fungicides has shown adverse effects on soil microbial and enzyme properties.  相似文献

The threat of heavy metal contamination to food and human health in south and east China has become a public concern as industrial development continues. The aims of this study were to investigate the influence of repeated phytoextraction over a two-year period by successive crops of the Zn and Cd hyperaccumulator Sedum plumbizincicola on multiple metal contaminated soils and to assess recovery of soil quality. Total and NH4OAc-extractable Zn and Cd concentrations were significantly reduced in planted soils compared to unplanted soils. Microbial biomass C (Cmic), basal respiration and microbial quotient (qM) were significantly and positively correlated and soil metabolic quotient (qCO2) was negatively correlated with heavy metal concentrations in unplanted soils (P < 0.05). However, Cmic, basal respiration and qM values increased significantly after phytoremediation by five crops over two years compared to unplanted soil. Urease, β-glucosidase, neutral phosphatase and arylsulfatase activities also increased significantly with decreasing heavy metal contents and hydrolase activity was enhanced in planted soil (P < 0.05) compared to the unplanted control. The data indicate the capacity of S. plumbizincicola to extract Zn and Cd from contaminated soil and also that phytoremediation had beneficial effects on soil microbial and hydrolase activities, with the metal phytoextraction procedure restoring soil quality.  相似文献

Red lead (Pb3O4) has been used extensively in the past as an anti-corrosion paint for the protection of steel constructions. Prominent examples being some of the 200,000 high-voltage pylons in Germany which have been treated with red lead anti-corrosion paints until about 1970. Through weathering and maintenance work, paint compounds and particles are deposited on the soils beneath these constructions. In the present study, six such “pylon soils” were investigated in order to characterize the plant availability and plant uptake of Pb, Cd, and Zn. For comparison, three urban soils with similar levels of heavy metal contamination were included. One phase extractions with 1 M NH4NO3, sequential extractions (seven steps), and extractions at different soil pH were used to evaluate the heavy metal binding forms in the soil and availability to plants. Greenhouse experiments were conducted to determine heavy metal uptake by Lolium multiflorum and Lactuca sativa var. crispa in untreated and limed red lead paint contaminated soils. Concentrations of Pb and Zn in the pylon soils were elevated with maximum values of 783 mg Pb kg−1 and 635 Zn mg kg−1 while the soil Cd content was similar to nearby reference soils. The pylon soils were characterized by exceptionally high proportions of NH4NO3-extractable Pb reaching up to 17% of total Pb. Even if the relatively low pH of the soils is considered (pH 4.3–4.9), this appears to be a specific feature of the red lead contamination since similarly contaminated urban soils have to be acidified to pH 2.5 to achieve a similarly high Pb extractability. The Pb content in L. multiflorum shoots reached maximum values of 73 mg kg−1 after a cultivation time of 4 weeks in pylon soil. Lime amendment reduced the plant uptake of Pb and Zn significantly by up to 91%. But L. sativa var. crispa cultivated on soils limed to neutral pH still contained critical Pb concentrations (up to 0.6 mg kg−1 fresh weight). Possible mechanisms for the exceptionally high plant availability of soil Pb derived from red lead paint are discussed.  相似文献

Arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) in soils can affect soil microbial function and community composition and, therefore, may have effects on soil ecosystem functioning. The aim of our study was to assess the effects of long-term As and Cd contamination on soil microbial community composition and soil enzyme activities. We analyzed soils that have been contaminated 25 years ago and at present still show enhanced levels of either As, 18 and 39 mg kg−1, or Cd, 34 and 134 mg kg−1. Soil without heavy metal addition served as control. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) showed that bacterial community composition in As and Cd contaminated soils differed from that in the control soil. The same was true for the microbial community composition assessed by analysis of respiratory quinones. Soil fungi and Proteobacteria appeared to be tolerant towards As and Cd, while other groups of bacteria were reduced. The decline in alkaline phosphatase, arylsulphatase, protease and urease activities in the As- and Cd-contaminated soils was correlated with a decrease of respiratory quinones occuring in Actinobacteria and Firmicutes. Xylanase activity was unaffected or elevated in the contaminated soils which was correlated with a higher abundance of fungal quinones, and quinones found in Proteobacteria.  相似文献
