The effects of temperature on anatomical and chemical characteristics of Quercus cerris cork were examined. Cork samples were subjected to isothermal air heating between 150 °C and 400 °C and analyzed for mass loss, cellular structure and chemical composition. The thermal decomposition of Q. cerris cork is similar to that of Q. suber cork. Cork is thermally stable below 200 °C and after that degradation depended on temperature and heating time with increasing mass loss, i.e. 3% at 200 °C 10 min and 46% at 350 °C 60 min. With temperature and starting at 200 °C, cells expanded, cell wall thickness was reduced and corrugations were lost.Extractives degraded at lower temperatures, although aliphatic extractives were found to be more stable. Suberin from Q. cerris was more heat resistant than Q. suber suberin, while lignin showed similar resistance. These results provide a basis for studies on the production of Q. cerris bark expanded cork agglomerates for insulation purposes.  相似文献

Polianthes tuberosa is a commercially valuable flower crop in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam that is propagated by the harvesting and planting of bulbs. Cultivation of P. tuberosa is infected by an endemic Aphelenchoides besseyi nematode that damages a high proportion of plants and persists within the bulbs. Here we report on the comparison of hot water and pesticide treatments as control methods to protect P. tuberosa from A. besseyi damage, and conclude that a hot water treatment consisting of soaking bulbs in water for 30 min at 57 °C is the most efficacious method to produce healthy flowers in a cost effective manner.  相似文献

Mature red fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica contain two soluble pigment, betanin and indicaxanthin. The optimal conditions for dye extraction were to mix 50 g of juice from cactus pears with 100 mL of acidified water as solvent for dye extraction. Two main dyes were purified from the pigment extract by chromatography and identified by UV-vis, HPLC and LC-MS techniques as indicaxanthin (15 mg per 100 g) and betanin (280 mg per 100 g). The effect of dye bath pH, salt concentration, dyeing time and temperature was studied. The optimal conditions for dyeing modified acrylic fabrics with betanin dye were carried out at 50 °C for 45 min at pH 5. Un-mordanted samples have good properties of water and washing fastness. Mordant CoSO4 was found to give good light fastness (rating 5).  相似文献

In this study, Nigella sativa L. oil was extracted using supercritical carbon dioxide with full factorial design to determine the best extraction condition (pressure, temperature and dynamic extraction time) for obtaining an extract with high yield, antioxidant activity and thymoquinone (TQ) quantity. The maximum thymoquinone content in the highest overall yield was achieved through SC-CO2 extraction condition of 150 bar, 40 °C, 120 min with the value of 4.09 mg/ml. The highest SC-CO2 extraction yield was 23.20% which obtained through extraction condition of 350 bar, 60 °C and 120 min. The extraction conducted at 350 bar, 50 °C, 60 min showed the lowest IC50 value (highest antioxidant activity) of 2.59 mg/ml using DPPH radical scavenging activity method. Fatty acid composition of the extracted oil with highest radical scavenging activity was obtained by gas chromatographic analysis.  相似文献

The effectiveness of brief (30 or 60 s) immersion in water at 24, 50, 55, 60, 65, or 70 °C was evaluated for the control of brown rot, caused by Monilinia fructicola, on California-grown peaches, nectarines, and plums. Inoculated fruits were treated and either stored at 20 °C for 5 days or at 0 °C and 95% RH for 30 days followed by 5 days at 20 °C to simulate commercial marketing conditions. Immersion in water at 55 °C for 60 s or at 60 °C for 30 or 60 s significantly reduced both decay incidence and severity among the remaining wounds that developed the disease. Water temperatures of 65 °C or higher were phytotoxic and caused moderate to severe surface injuries. Immersion in water at 60 °C for 60 s was effective for plums and it reduced the incidence of brown rot from more than 80% among control fruit to less than 2%. In nectarines, this treatment reduced decay incidence from 100 to less than 5% on fruit stored at 20 °C and from 73 to 28% on cold-stored fruit. Therefore, brief immersion in heated water can be an effective approach to manage postharvest brown rot of stone fruits, especially for the organic fruit industry.  相似文献

We studied the effect of treating banana and plantain (Musa spp.) suckers using boiling water for the generation of healthy planting material. Small, medium and large-sized suckers of two East African highland bananas (cvs. Mbwazirume, Kibuzi, AAA-EA) and one of plantain (cv. Agbagba, AAB) were dipped in boiling water for 10, 20 or 30 s after root removal and corm (sucker) paring. Treatments were compared with a conventional farmer method (control), which was not pared or treated with boiling water, and also with pared only. At three months after treatment, germination, plant height and girth of plants were similar within sucker size and between treatments for each cultivar. Root health was improved by boiling water treatment for all cultivars compared to untreated controls. Boiling water treatment of suckers reduced combined nematode densities of Helicotylenchus multicinctus, Radopholus similis and Meloidogyne spp. to 0.7% of farmer controls. Boiling water-treated suckers had less banana weevil damage than controls. Treatment of pared suckers for at least 20 s and up to 30 s was highly efficient for disinfesting banana and plantain planting material. This modification of the hot water treatment is a practical adaptation, suitable for smallholder growers to improve the quality of banana and plantain planting material in smallholder farms.  相似文献

Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is common in cereals that lack grain dormancy if maturing grain is exposed to rain. This phenomenon leads to immediate loss of seed viability, and since the malting process requires germination, its occurrence is highly undesirable in malting barley crops. Dormancy release rate is genetically and environmentally controlled. We evaluated the effect of temperature during grain filling on the dormancy release pattern (and then on the PHS susceptibility) of grains from five malting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars widely sown in Argentina, with the aim of predicting PHS susceptibility of a barley crop from easy-to-gather data. Barley cultivars (Quilmes Ayelén, Q. Palomar, Q. Painé, B1215 and Scarlett) were sown on different dates over a 3-year period for generating variability in the thermal environment during grain filling. The period from pollination to physiological maturity (PM) was adjusted to a thermal time (TT) scale, which was then arbitrarily divided into 50 °C d intervals. Mean air temperature within each interval and for the whole filling period was calculated for the different sowing dates. Dormancy release pattern was followed by determining a weighed germination index (GI) throughout grain filling and maturation. We sought a linear relationship between temperature during grain filling and GI at some moment after PM. For all barley cultivars, except B1215, a significant (p < 0.001) and positive correlation was found between the GI of grains with 10–20% moisture content (fresh basis) and mean temperature within TT intervals located at the last stages of seed development. Then, simply temperature-based models for predicting crop PHS susceptibility were generated for each barley cultivar. Moreover, we intended a single, universal prediction model constructed with data from all cultivars. Two general forms were proposed, but the relationships were slightly less tight when each barley cultivar model was used. A preliminary validation for each cultivar model was done for three genotypes with independent data from four sites of the major barley production area in Argentina. When comparing experimental and field data regressions we did not find significant differences in slope for any cultivar (p > 0.25). However, most of the observed GIs were higher than predicted. This upwards displacement of GI–temperature relationship suggests the role of other environmental factors (i.e. water and soil N availability, day length), differing among tested locations. We are currently evaluating and quantifying the effect of these factors with the aim of improving PHS susceptibility prediction in malting barley crops.  相似文献

The present work deals with production of ethanol from sweet sorghum bagasse by a zygomycetes fungus Mucor hiemalis. The bagasse was treated with phosphoric acid and sodium hydroxide, with or without ultrasonication, prior to enzymatic hydrolysis by commercial cellulase and β-glucosidase enzymes. The phosphoric acid pretreatment was performed at 50 °C for 30 min, while the alkali treatment performed with 12% NaOH at 0 °C for 3 h. The pretreatments resulted in improving the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis to 79-92% of the theoretical yield. The best hydrolysis performance was obtained after pretreatment by NaOH assisted with ultrasonication. The fungus showed promising results in fermentation of the hydrolyzates. In the best case, the hydrolyzate of NaOH-ultrasound pretreated bagasse followed by 24 h fermentation resulted in about 81% of the corresponding theoretical ethanol yield. Furthermore, the highest volumetric ethanol productivity was observed in the hydrolyzates of NaOH pretreated bagasse, especially after ultrasonication in pretreatment stage.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to find alternative methods for the control of pericarp browning in longan fruits (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) cv. Daw in order to replace the use of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Experiments were conducted by dipping fruits in 1.5 N HCl solution (pH 0.21) for 20 min followed by draining. The effects of subsequent rinsing in water were also investigated. Untreated fruits and SO2 fumigated fruits were used as controls. Fruits from each treatment were then packaged in commercial perforated plastic baskets and stored at 3 ± 1 °C, 85% RH for 60 days. It was found that dipping the fruits in HCl controlled disease development compared with the untreated fruits. In addition, dipping the fruits in HCl as well as fumigating with SO2 gave the best control of pericarp browning. After 5 days, the pericarp of untreated fruits became brown. Dipping fruits in HCl without rinsing reduced pericarp and juice pH and increased titratable acidity which lowered eating quality. Sensory analysis was carried out to determine aril color as well as appearance, firmness, flavor and taste. Dipping in 1.5 N HCl for 20 min and rinsing exhibited higher efficacy than dipping for 0, 10 or 15 min in controlling fruit decay and maintaining fruit color and eating qualities during 7 days storage at 25 °C following 45 days storage at 5 ± 1 °C. Therefore, dipping in 1.5 N HCl for 20 min, followed by rinsing in water can be considered for commercial application in extending shelf life, decreasing fruit decay and maintaining fruit quality of longan fruits.  相似文献

A Box-Behnken experimental design and response surface methodology were employed to optimize the pretreatment parameters of a formic/acetic acid delignification treatment of Miscanthus × giganteus for enzymatic hydrolysis. The effects of three independent variables, namely cooking time (1, 2 and 3 h), formic acid/acetic acid/water ratio (20/60/20, 30/50/20 and 40/40/20) and temperature (80, 90 and 107 °C) on pulp yield, residual Klason lignin content, concentration of degradation products (furfural and hydroxymethylfurfural) in the black liquor, and enzymatic digestibility of the pulps were investigated. The major parameter influencing was the temperature for pulp yield, delignification degree, furfural production and enzymatic digestibility. According to the response surface analysis the optimum conditions predicted for a maximum enzymatic digestibility of the glucan (75.3%) would be obtained using a cooking time of 3 h, at 107 °C and with a formic acid/acetic acid/water ratio of 40/40/20%. Glucan digestibility was highly dependent on the delignification degree.  相似文献

Even though planting cotton early in the season is advantageous, the cold sensitivity of cotton seedlings and low germination rates, especially in the areas experiencing low temperatures, are the main obstacle for the early seasonal planting. A total of 106 genotypes from three different species; Gossypium hirsutum L., G. barbadense L., and G. herbaceum L. were screened for cold tolerance using three different approaches. Furthermore, the best screening method to differentiate between the genotypes for cold tolerance, and to predict their field emergence rates was also determined. In detail, optimal germination percentages were measured at 30 °C with the results ranging from 61% to 99%. On the other hand, cold temperature germination rates and emergence percentages ranged from 8% to 82% in paper test and from 8% to 88% (the 7th day after planting) in sand test at 18 °C, and field emergence percentages ranged from 44% to 77% at 28 days after planting. A significant difference between cotton species in terms of their tolerance to cold was observed. That is, G. barbadense genotypes had higher germination rates than the other two species in the three methods used. There was no correlation between optimal germination rates and field emergence percentages. Among cold temperature germination methods, the 18 °C paper test was better in predicting of field emergence percentage, in differentiating between genotypes in terms of their cold tolerance and in determining seed vigor. G. hirsutum cultivars; 8106-2, AYDIN-110, CORINA, DP-388, DPL-50, DPL-5614, NAZILLI-342 and one G. barbadense cultivar, GIZA 70 were more cold tolerant among all the cotton cultivars screened in this study.  相似文献

Autocatalytic hydrothermal process conditions were used to study Ulex europæus (Gorse) as a source of xylan compounds. The aim was to study the possibilities for using this unutilised biomass material to produce xylans. Ulex is an evergreen shrub that grows in the northwest of Spain and has no economic value. Therefore, Ulex is considered a promising candidate as a biomass source. Ulex showed a total xylose content of 12%, thus qualifying it as a suitable material to extract xylan-derived compounds. Autohydrolysis was applied to extract xylans from Ulex. To find the best conditions for xylan extraction, samples of Ulex were subjected to different temperatures and time conditions. Results indicate that autohydrolysis is a suitable method to selectively extract xylans at temperatures between 160 and 190 °C for 5-30 min, reaching a maximum xylan recovery of almost 63% of the initial xylan at 180 °C for 30 min, with only small effects on cellulose and lignin contents.  相似文献

This research work involves the dyeing of wool with indicaxanthin, a natural dye extracted from fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica. The optimal conditions for dye extraction were to mix 50 g of Juice from cactus pears with 100 mL of 80% aqueous ethanol as solvent for dye extraction. Liquid chromatography was applied for the separation. Two main dyes were obtained, which were identified as indicaxanthin (75 mg per 50 g) and betanin (5 mg per 50 g). The effect of dye bath pH, salt concentration, dyeing time and temperature were studied. The optimal conditions for wool dyeing with indicaxanthin dye were carried out at 70 °C for 90 min with the pre-treatment of various metal salts as mordant. The colour yields of the dye on the wool were found to be highly dependent of the pH, optimum results being obtained at pH 4. The K/S of wool increased in the order of the dyeing using KAl (SO4)2 > MnSO4 > CoSO4 > FeSO4 > none > ZnSO4 > CuSO4. Un-mordanted samples have good properties of water and washing fastness. Mordants KAl (SO4)2 and CoSO4 were found to give good light fastness (rating 5).  相似文献

Mature watermelon vine decline (MWVD) is a late-season disease of unknown etiology, characterized by vine collapse and discolored, much reduced root systems. While several new disorders in watermelon have been reported recently, this problem appears specific to the Midwest. To test for a biological cause and methods to suppress this disorder, soil was collected from two southern Indiana fields with histories of MWVD for microplot and greenhouse experiments. Watermelons grew best in microplots treated with methyl bromide or methyl iodide. Roots of plants growing in the untreated MWVD soil were severely necrotic; those from the fumigation treatments appeared healthy. In heating experiments, watermelon seedlings were grown in autoclaved soil mixed with 10% MWVD soil that was either untreated or heated at 40, 50, 60, 70 or 80 °C for 30 min. Watermelon plants in the untreated controls and the 40 and 50 °C treatments had reduced top dry weights with decreased fibrous roots and associated discoloration in contrast to treatments of equal to and greater than 60 °C. Representative cultures from necrotic roots were identified as Rhizopycnis vagum by morphological analysis and sequencing the ITS region of the ribosomal DNA. PCR analysis with specific primers confirmed that R. vagum was present in roots from untreated MWVD soil but not in symptomless roots. This is the first report of R. vagum associated with plants suffering from MWVD in Indiana and indicates that this fungus occurs much farther north in the U.S. than known previously.  相似文献

In the present study, milled cotton stalks were subjected to alkali pretreatment with NaOH at 1-4% (w/v) concentrations at 121 °C for time ranging from 30 to 90 min. Ozone pretreatment was performed by passing 45 mg/L of ozone gas over 2 mm cotton stalks for 150 min at a flow rate of 0.37 L/min. The residual biomass from 4% alkali pretreatment for 60 min showed 46.6% lignin degradation accompanied by 83.2% increase in glucan content, compared with the untreated biomass. Hydrolysis of 4% alkali-treated and ozone-treated cotton stalks was conducted using enzyme combination of 20 filter paper cellulase units/gram dried substrate (FPU/g-ds), 45 IU/g-ds β-glucosidase and 15 IU/g-ds pectinase. Enzymatic hydrolysis of alkali-treated and ozone-treated biomass after 48 h resulted in 42.29 g/L glucose, 6.82 g/L xylose and 24.13 g/L glucose, 8.3 g/L xylose, respectively. About 99% of glucose was consumed in 24 h by Pichia kudriavzevii HOP-1 cells resulting in 19.82 g/L of ethanol from alkali-treated cotton stalks and 10.96 g/L of ethanol from ozone-treated cotton stalks. Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of the alkali-treated cotton stalks after 12-h pre-hydrolysis resulted in ethanol concentration, ethanol yield on dry biomass basis and ethanol productivity of 19.48 g/L, 0.21 g/g and 0.41 g/L/h, respectively which holds promise for further scale-up studies. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study employing SSF for ethanol production from cotton stalks.  相似文献

The onset of rains during dry to wet transition fallow periods in rice-wheat production systems in Nepal cause substantial losses of soil nitrogen if the system is improperly managed. To make use of available nutrients and water, this transition period can either be shortened by early rice planting, or be extended by late planting, allowing a third crop to be grown. Shifting planting dates would require rice genotypes adapted to the different environments. Crop duration is influenced by both vegetative and reproductive development, which in turn is influenced by the photo-thermal environment and genotypic responses to it. An experiment was conducted to derive genotypic photo-thermal constants from phenological observations on diverse rice cultivars, which were then applied to the concept of the phenological model RIDEV to design cropping calendar options. Environmental effects on variation of crop duration were determined by planting at different dates. The risk of yield losses to sterility caused by low temperatures was estimated by simulation. Thirty-one different genotypes of rice were planted at 8 dates in 15-day intervals starting 27 April 2004 at the experimental field of the Regional Agriculture Research Station, Lumle, Nepal. The shortest duration to flowering was observed for planting dates in late May and early June. Simulation of flowering dates with RIDEV yielded correct results only for the early planting dates. For later planting dates simulated flowering dates showed an increasing deviation from the observed. In most cultivars, minimum air temperature below 18 °C during booting to heading stages caused near-total spikelet sterility and a specific delay in flowering. However, the chilling tolerant cultivars Chomrong and Machhapuchre-3 cultivated at high altitude showed less than 30% spikelet sterility even at 15 °C. Simulating crop durations with the derived thermal constants allowed evaluating the different calendar options for high altitude systems.  相似文献

Rice starch suspensions of 10% dry matter (DM) were treated by heat (0.1 MPa at 20–85 °C) or pressure/heat combinations (100–600 MPa at 20, 40 and 50 °C) for 15 min to investigate their gelatinization and rheological characteristics. The maximum swelling index of about 12 g water per gram of DM was obtained by thermal treatment at 85 °C, meanwhile, that of 7.0 g was observed by 600-MPa pressurization at 50 °C. The higher temperatures or pressures resulted in the higher degrees of gelatinization. Furthermore, treatments of 0.1 MPa at 85 °C, 500 MPa at 50 °C and 600 MPa at various temperatures caused complete gelatinization of rice starch. The consistency index (K) and storage modulus (G′) dramatically increased from 70 °C or 400 MPa. The G′ values were higher in pressure-treated samples than those in thermal-treated samples. Therefore, an application of pressure/heat combinations as a processing method to improve the quality of rice starch products would be possible.  相似文献

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) was employed to extract oil from hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) seeds. For ground seeds, the supercritical extraction was carried out at temperatures of 40, 60 and 80 °C and pressures of 300 and 400 bar. Different solvent-ratios were applied. Supercritical CO2 extractions were compared with a conventional technique, n-hexane in Soxhlet. The extraction yields, fatty acid composition of the oil and oxidation stability were determined. The seed samples used in this work contained 81% PUFAs, of which 59.6% was linoleic acid (ω-6), 3.4% γ-linolenic (ω-3), and 18% α-linolenic (ω-6). The highest oil yield from seeds was 22%, corresponding to 72% recovery, at 300 bar and 40 °C and at 400 bar and 80 °C. The highest oxidation stability corresponding to 2.16 mM Eq Vit E was obtained at 300 bar and 80 °C.  相似文献

In Argentina, delayed sowing causes a decrease in seed yield and in radiation use efficiency (RUE) of peanut crops (Arachis hypogaea L.), but it is not known if RUE reduction is mainly due to reduced temperature during late reproductive stages or to a sink limitation promoted by decreased seed number in these conditions. We analyzed seed yield determination and RUE dynamics of two cultivars (Florman and ASEM) in four irrigated field experiments (Expn) grown at three sites and five contrasting sowing dates (between 17 October and 21 December) in three growing seasons. An additional field experiment was performed with widely spaced plants (i.e. with no interference among them) to evaluate the effect of peg removal on RUE and leaf carbon exchange rate (CER). Seasonal dynamics of mean air temperature and irradiance, biomass production (total and pods), and intercepted photosynthetically active radiation (IPAR) were followed. Seed yield and seed yield components (pod number, seeds per pod, seed number and seed weight) were determined at final harvest. Crop growth rate (CGR) and pod growth rate (PGR) were computed for growth phases of interest. RUE values for crops sown until 14 November were 1.89–1.98 g MJ−1 IPAR, within the usual range. RUE decreased significantly for cv. Florman in the late sowing of Exp1 (29 November) and for both cultivars in Exp3 (21 December sowing). Across experiments, seed yield (4.5-fold variation relative to minimum) was strongly associated (r2 = 0.87, P < 0.0001) with variations in seed number (3.5-fold variation relative to minimum), and to a lesser extent (r2 ≤ 0.54, P ≤ 0.001) to variations in seed weight (1.9-fold variation relative to minimum). Seed number was positively related (P < 0.01) to CGR (r2 = 0.66) and to PGR (r2 = 0.72) during the R3–R6.5 phase (seed number determination window), while crop growth during the grain-filling phase (i.e. between R6.5 and final harvest) was positively associated with grain number (r2 = 0.80, P < 0.001). No association was found between RUE and mean air temperature, neither for the whole cycle nor for the phase between R6.5 and final harvest, which showed the largest temperature variation (16.4–22.4 °C) across experiments. Use of mean minimum temperature records (range between 13.8 and 18.5 °C) did no improve the relationship. However, grain-filling phase RUE showed a positive (r2 = 0.69, P = 0.003) linear response to seed number across experiments. This apparent sink limitation of source activity was consistent with the reduced RUE (from 2.73 to 1.42 g MJ−1 IPAR) and reduced leaf CER at high irradiance (from ca. 30 to 15 μmol m−2 s−1) for plants subjected to 75% peg removal.  相似文献

The susceptibility of three sweet potato cultivars (Ipomoea batatas L.) C4, TIS 3290 and TIS 9162 was evaluated against 156 isolates of Meloidogyne spp. with the aim to include resistant/tolerant sweet potato cultivars in a crop rotation scheme for the management of root-knot nematodes. The nematode isolates corresponded to races 1, 2 and 3 of Meloidogyne arenaria (n = 7), races 1, 2, 3 and 4 of M. incognita (n = 131) and Meloidogyne javanica (n = 18). Also, the isolates of M. incognita were differentiated in virulence groups: Pepper (n = 35), Pepper-Mi (n = 25), Tomato (n = 41) and Tomato-Mi (n = 30), depending on their ability to parasitize resistant pepper and tomato cultivars. The tested isolates of M. javanica parasitized C4 and TIS 3290, but not TIS 9162, whereas M. arenaria parasitized C4 and TIS 9162, but not TIS 3290, and M. incognita was able to parasitize the three sweet potato cultivars tested. C4 was the most susceptible cultivar to all nematode species tested, especially M. incognita, TIS 3290 was the most resistant and TIS 9162 was in between (7.2, 62.9 and 26.9% of resistant plants, respectively). Susceptibility of the sweet potato cultivars showed slight variations depending on the race or virulence group of M. incognita. The results suggest that sweet potato cultivars TIS 3290 and TIS 9162 may be used as rotation crops in fields where root-knot nematodes are present, their selection depending on the Meloidogyne isolates present. The use of resistant sweet potato cultivars would be preferably combined with other management practices to avoid virulence selection in nematode isolates.  相似文献
