In March of 1991, a disease that affected pregnant sows and caused a high mortality in unweaned piglets was detected in Spain. Based on the clinical signs observed, mystery swine disease, which had been described recently in Germany, Holland and Belgium, was suspected. From the samples obtained from the affected farm, a filtrable agent (0.22 micron) was isolated on cell culture. It produced cytopathic effects, its replication was intracytoplasmic, it was sensitive to chloroform, and cross-reacted with a Lelystad reference serum. When inoculated into pregnant sows, the agent produced inappetence for 2-4 days, without hyperthermia. One of the sows aborted at 100 days of gestation; the two others had delayed parturitions (days 115 and 116). There was a mixture of healthy piglets, mummified fetuses, stillbirths and weak piglets. Microscopic examination of the lungs of healthy piglets killed at 8 and 12 days of life revealed the presence of interstitial pneumonia. The sera from the three sows at 39 days after infection cross-reacted with the Lelystad virus (titres > or = 1/640), whereas pre-inoculation sera did not recognize it (titres < or = 1/10). This is the first report from Spain of the isolation of an agent (antigenically related to the Lelystad virus), capable of reproducing the disease previously designated as mystery swine disease.  相似文献

We focused on isolating viruses and mycoplasmas, and we tested paired sera of affected sows for antibodies against ten known pig viruses. The mycoplasmas M. hysonoviae, M. hyopneumoniae, and Acheloplasma laidlawii, and the viruses encephalomyocarditis virus and porcine enterovirus types 2 and 7 were isolated from individual pigs. An unknown agent however, was isolated from 16 of 20 piglets and from 41 of 63 sows. This agent was characterized as a virus and designated Lelystad virus. No relationship between this virus and other viruses has yet been established. Of 165 sows reportedly affected by the disease, 123 (75 per cent) seroconverted to Lelystad virus, whereas less than 10 per cent seroconverted to any of the other virus isolates or to known viral pathogens. Antibodies directed against Lelystad virus were also found in pigs with mystery swine disease in England, Germany, and the United States. The effect of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) infection in the last third of gestation was studied using two clones from an ADV isolate. Twelve sows were infected with one or other clone at 85 +/- 1 days of gestation. The dose of infection was 5 X 10(6) TCID50 per sow. The clinical and serological responses to the infection were different. One clone, Ls-1, produces a severe and acute illness. The course of the disease went from 9 to 14 days while the other clone, Ls-2, caused a mild or silent infection and for a shorter time. Transplacental infection occurred in only one sow which had been infected with Ls-2. The litter consisted of 8 mummified fetuses. Sows infected with Ls-1 produced piglets or mummified fetuses that were virus-negative. Perinatal infection was found in litters from both groups. Colostrum-deprived piglets that did not have postpartum contact with the sow, produced specific antibodies, 2 out of 6 born to sows infected with Ls-1 and 1 out of 4 born to sows infected with Ls-2. The antibody titers in colostrum-fed piglets were related to the extent of clinical response of the sows to the infection. Litters born to sows infected with Ls-1 had mean SNT titers from 1/12 to 1/112 while litters born to sows infected with Ls-2 showed titers of 1/2 or less than 2.  相似文献

The biological properties of bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) strain Oregon C24V were studied after intranasal and subcutaneous infection of pregnant sows. This virus strain is widely used in Hungary for immunising cattle against bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD). Based upon the results of the clinical, gross pathological, histopathological and virological examinations it can be established that the given strain caused asymptomatic infection and serological conversion in sows that were in the second third of gestation. The virus caused clinically apparent disease in some of the piglets born at term, which indicates that it had crossed the placenta. More than half (57%) of the live-born piglets died within 60 days of birth. The sows and their progeny did not shed the virus. BVDV infection has great differential diagnostic importance in pigs, as classical swine fever (CSF) virus strains of reduced virulence cause similar clinical symptoms and gross and histopathological changes.  相似文献

Two hundred and six mature sows were used to evaluate the effect of adding a total of 3 kg of fat to sow diets for an average of eight days before and seven days after parturition on piglet viability and performance.The addition of fat to the diet of sows had no effect on the percentage of piglets born alive, individual piglet birth weight, weight of the piglet at three weeks of age or the weaning to service interval in the sows. However, there was a significant increase in piglet survival (3.4%) between treated and control sows. Birth weight had a marked effect on piglet survival but there was no indication of a greater effect of added fat in the sows' diet on the survival of smaller piglets. A number of piglets were cross-fostered but fostering had no effect on piglet mortality. A comparison of the mortality of piglets born from sows receiving added fat and reared on controls and vice versa indicated that the major benefits of additional fat in the sow diet were effected in utero rather than via an increase in the quality of the sows' milk.  相似文献

本研究探讨饲粮中添加不同水平L-精氨酸(L-Arg)对母猪繁殖性能及血浆一氧化氮相关指标的影响。试验选择36头2胎次母猪(长白×大约克),随机分为4组,每组9头母猪。各组饲粮分别在基础饲粮中添加0 L-Arg+1.70%L-丙氨酸(L-Ala)(0 L-Arg组)、0.4%L-Arg+1.02%L-Ala(0.4%L-Arg组)、0.7%L-Arg+0.51%L-Ala(0.7%L-Arg组)和1.0%L-Arg+0 L-Ala(1.0%L-Arg组),各组添加L-Ala以满足等氮平衡需要。试验期从母猪配种当天到分娩。结果表明:1.0%L-Arg组比0 L-Arg组显著提高了窝产活仔数和初生窝重(P<0.05),随着饲粮中L-Arg水平的提高,窝产仔总数和初生个体重有上升趋势(P>0.05);母猪妊娠第30、60和90天,1.0%L-Arg组血浆中Arg、鸟氨酸含量均显著或极显著高于0.7%、0.4%、0 L-Arg组(P<0.05或P<0.01);母猪妊娠第90天,各组间的血浆脯氨酸含量均有极显著差异(P<0.01),但第30、60天差异均不显著(P>0.05);母猪妊娠第30、60、90天,1.0%L-Arg组血浆一氧化氮含量和第90天血浆总一氧化氮合酶(TNOS)、诱导型一氧化氮合酶(iNOS)活性均显著或极显著高于0.7%、0.4%、0 L-Arg组(P<0.05或P<0.01)。经回归分析,母猪的窝产仔总数、窝产活仔数、初生窝重、血浆中各氨基酸、一氧化氮含量及TNOS和iNOS的活性与饲粮L-Arg水平均有显著或极显著的线性关系(P<0.05或P<0.01)。结果提示,饲粮中L-Arg水平变化对母猪妊娠后期血液生化指标影响明显,饲粮中添加1.0%L-Arg对提高母猪繁殖性能效果最佳。  相似文献

High titers of interferon were found in the serum and milk of three sows treated two days after farrowing with polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid complexed with poly-L-lysine and carboxymethylcellulose, but circulating interferon was not found in the piglets suckled by these sows. When two treated sows and their suckling piglets were exposed to infection with transmissible gastroenteritis virus eight hours after treatment, the sows showed no signs of disease, although they developed circulating interferon in response to the virus infection. The piglets suckled by the treated sows developed signs of transmissible gastroenteritis which were identical to those seen in a control litter of piglets suckled by an untreated sow. Piglets treated at two days of age with the polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid complex showed a delay in onset of clinical signs when exposed to infection with transmissible gastroenteritis virus, compared with untreated control piglets. When two sows were treated with the polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid complex before farrowing, neither circulating interferon nor activated natural killer cells were found in the piglets after birth.  相似文献

Litter characteristics at birth were recorded in 4 genetic types of sows with differing maternal abilities. Eighty-two litters from F(1) Duroc x Large White sows, 651 litters from Large White sows, 63 litters from Meishan sows, and 173 litters from Laconie sows were considered. Statistical models included random effects of sow, litter, or both; fixed effects of sow genetic type, parity, birth assistance, and piglet sex, as well as gestation length, farrowing duration, piglet birth weight, and litter size as linear covariates. The quadratic components of the last 2 factors were also considered. For statistical analyses, GLM were first considered, assuming a binomial distribution of stillbirth. Hierarchical models were also fitted to the data to take into account correlations among piglets from the same litter. Model selection was performed based on deviance and deviance information criterion. Finally, standard and robust generalized estimating equations (GEE) procedures were applied to quantify the importance of each effect on a piglet's probability of stillbirth. The 5 most important factors involved were, in decreasing order (contribution of each effect to variance reduction): difference between piglet birth weight and the litter mean (2.36%), individual birth weight (2.25%), piglet sex (1.01%), farrowing duration (0.99%), and sow genetic type (0.94%). Probability of stillbirth was greater for lighter piglets, for male piglets, and for piglets from small or very large litters. Probability of stillbirth increased with sow parity number and with farrowing duration. Piglets born from Meishan sows had a lower risk of stillbirth (P < 0.0001) and were little affected by the sources of variation mentioned above compared with the 3 other sow genetic types. Standard and robust GEE approaches gave similar results despite some disequilibrium in the data set structure highlighted with the robust GEE approach.  相似文献

Effects of dextrose plus lactose in sow’s feed were tested on subsequent reproductive performance and within litter birth weight variation. During the last week of gestation and lactation, sows were either fed a commercial lactation diet (Control: C), or an isocaloric diet containing 25 g/kg dextrose plus 25 g/kg lactose (Treatment: T). In the subsequent weaning‐to‐oestrus interval (WEI), all sows received the same amount of a commercial feed, but T sows were supplemented with 150 g dextrose plus 150 g lactose per day. Weight and backfat changes were recorded as well as litter characteristics during the treatment period and the subsequent parity. No significant effect of treatment was found on the subsequent reproductive performance, including the number of piglets born, although the number of live born piglets was 0.51 larger (p = 0.31) and weight of the live born piglets was 84 g higher in the T sows (p = 0.07) than in the C sows. When sows were categorized in sows with 12 or less and more than 12 total born piglets in the previous litter, treatment of sows with dextrose plus lactose resulted for the group with 12 or less piglets in a strong increase in subsequent total born piglets (13.97), whereas in the untreated sows the subsequent litter size was 11.89. In the group with more than 12 total born piglets, no effect of treatment was found (interaction between previous litter size and treatment p = 0.03). The within litter variation in birth weight in the subsequent litter was numerically lower in the T sows. We concluded that the use of dextrose and lactose during lactation and WEI seems to enhance litter size in sows with low previous litter size and seems to have the potential to reduce the within litter variation in birth weight.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to ascertain whether maternal additive genetic variance exists for within-litter variation in birth weight and for change in within-litter variation in piglet weight during suckling. A further objective was to estimate maternal genetic correlations of these two traits with mortality, birth weight, growth, and number of piglets born alive. Data were obtained from L?vsta research station, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and included 22,521 piglets born in 2,003 litters by 1,074 Swedish Yorkshire sows. No cross fostering was used in the herd. The following seven traits were analysed in a multivariate animal (sow) model: number of piglets born alive, within-litter SD in birth weight, within-litter SD in piglet weight at 3 wk of age, mean weight at birth, mean weight at 3 wk of age, proportion of stillborn piglets, and proportion of dead piglets during suckling. Maternal genetic variance for the change in within-litter SD in piglet weight during suckling was assessed from the estimated additive genetic covariance components by conditioning on within-litter SD in birth weight. Similarly, mean growth of piglets during suckling was assessed from the additive genetic covariance components by conditioning on mean weight at birth. The heritability for within-litter SD in birth weight was 0.08 and 0.06 for within-litter SD in piglet weight at 3 wk. The genetic correlation between these two traits was 0.71. Little maternal genetic variance was found for the change in within-litter SD in piglet weight during suckling, and opportunity for genetic improvement of this trait by selective breeding seems limited. The genetic correlation of within-litter SD in birth weight with proportion of dead piglets during suckling was 0.25 and of within-litter SD in birth weight with mean growth of piglets was -0.31. The maternal genetic variance and heritability found for within-litter SD in birth weight indicates that genetic improvement of this trait by selective breeding is possible. In addition, selection for sows' capacity to give birth to homogeneous litters may be advantageous for piglet survival, piglet growth, and litter homogeneity at weaning.  相似文献

Causes of preweaning mortality were examined on a large intensive piggery. Diagnosis was made using comprehensive clinical histories combined with post-mortem data. Two thousand four hundred and twenty-six piglets were born in 238 litters. Pre-parturient and parturient losses were 2.9% and 5.4% of the total numbers of piglets born. Birth to weaning mortality was 11.3%. Among piglets born alive, overlaying was the most frequent cause of death (2.1%), followed by deaths due to diarrhoea (1.7%), anaemia (1.2%), savaging (1.1%) and losses of small weak piglets (0.9%). Most deaths, including stillbirths, were associated with below average birth weight, and two-thirds of all deaths of liveborn pigs occurred within 4 days of birth. Increased litter size resulted in decreased birth weights, an increased percentage of stillborn piglets and mummified foetuses, but duration of parturition was not affected. Stillborn piglets were born late in the litter and after a longer interval between pigs born (interpig interval). Over 70% of deaths due to overlay were in previously healthy piglets, but some were associated with illness of the sow (18%) or both sow and piglet (3%). Savaging was confined mainly to first parity sows and was responsible for 20% of all deaths in these litters. Sixty-two per cent of all piglets with a birth weight of less than 800g were stillborn or died before weaning compared with 18.7% mortality for all piglets. Anaemia in piglets was considered to be due to umbilical haemorrhage. Perinatal deaths are common among piglets in New Zealand. They tend to occur in epidemics, they are independent of the type of soil or of feeding practices, and are most common in the litters of young sows and of those recently introduced into the piggery. Affected sows may show signs of sickness and inappetence before farrowing, and the piglets are usually born dead (delivered in intact foctal membranes) or they may be weak and die within 24 hours of birth. A sow that has once delivered dead piglets rarely, if ever, does so at later farrows.  相似文献

本试验旨在研究母猪饲粮添加β-羟基-β-甲基丁酸(HMB)对母猪繁殖性能及仔猪生长性能和免疫功能的影响。选取20头3~6胎次、妊娠74 d的"长×大"母猪,随机分成2组,每组10个重复,每个重复1头母猪,对照组饲喂基础饲粮,试验组在对照组基础饲粮中添加2 000 mg/kg HMB。试验从母猪妊娠第74天开始,至仔猪21日龄断奶结束。结果表明:与对照组相比,试验组仔猪初生个体重显著提高14.1%(P<0.05),仔猪7、21日龄窝重分别显著提高16.6%、11.7%(P<0.05),仔猪初生至7日龄、初生至21日龄窝增重分别显著提高28.3%和12.5%(P<0.05);与对照组相比,试验组母猪在妊娠第98天和分娩当天血清免疫球蛋白G(IgG)含量分别提高35.3%(P<0.01)、13.0%(P>0.05),免疫球蛋白M(IgM)含量分别提高34.7%(P<0.05)、12.6%(P>0.05);与对照组相比,试验组母猪初乳中IgG含量显著提高19.0%(P<0.05),分娩后第14天常乳中IgM含量显著提高21.4%(P<0.05);与对照组相比,试验组仔猪7日龄血浆IgG、IgM含量分别显著提高11.4%和40.1%(P<0.05)。上述结果提示,母猪妊娠后期及哺乳期饲粮中连续添加2 000 mg/kg HMB,可显著提高仔猪初生重和哺乳期增重,改善母猪及仔猪免疫功能。  相似文献

为制订合理的猪瘟免疫程序,本研究采用正向间接血凝试验(IHA)对某规模化猪场进行猪瘟免疫监测和分析。结果表明:猪瘟母源抗体的合格率、抗体效价平均值均存在随着仔猪日龄的增长而呈逐渐下降的趋势;35 d~40 d仔猪母源抗体的合格率达78.79%、抗体平均效价为5.97 Log2;仔猪35 d~40 d实施猪瘟首免,其一免抗体合格率和抗体效价均比20 d首免有所提高;同一窝仔猪的猪瘟母源抗体,有11%窝次的猪差距在3个~8个滴度;母猪猪瘟免疫抗体的合格率,一胎母猪稍低,其它经产母猪基本接近;猪瘟抗体效价的平均值随胎龄增加而升高,并且抗体的离散度则随胎龄增加而缩小。因此,在母猪实施与仔猪同时免疫的猪场,40日龄左右是较佳的首免日期。  相似文献

The study analysed 954 Yorkshire sows from a research station in Sweden. The heritability for mean piglet weight at 3 weeks was 0.30 and the heritability for number dead up to 3 weeks was 0.09. Correlations showed that when the number of piglets born into a litter increased, it followed that each piglet weighed less at 3 weeks of age (genetic correlation -0.1). The higher the litter size at birth, the more piglets died, and if many piglets died in a litter, growth was low in the surviving piglets. The genetic correlation between mean birth weight and mean weight at 3 weeks was estimated to be 0.6.  相似文献

Twelve sows were inoculated with a low-virulent field strain of swine fever (SF) virus at 40, 65 and 90 days of pregnancy. Transplacental infection occurred in eight sows and these farrowed 88 piglets.Prenatal mortality was highest in litters from sows infected at 40 days after service, and postnatal death was most frequent in litters from sows infected at 65 days. Three sows gave birth to completely infected litters, whereas the five others farrowed litters in which uninfected piglets were found. The later the sows were infected during pregnancy, the more uninfected piglets were born. Twelve piglets recovered from the infection and the percentage of recoveries increased with the stage of pregnancy at which inoculation took place. Twenty-three piglets developed a persistent infection. The earlier infection occurred during pregnancy, the more persistent infections were produced. The persistently infected pigs developed a runting syndrome from about one week after weaning. The clinical signs were more severe in pigs from sows infected at 65 days of pregnancy than in pigs from sows infected at 40 days. A persistent viraemia was present in these pigs with titres ranging between 105.7 and 107.0 plaque forming units/ml of plasma. At autopsy the most pronounced lesions were an atrophy of the thymus, and swollen and pale lymph nodes. Virus antigen was present in lymphoidal, reticulo-endothelial and epithelial tissues.One persistently infected pig survived superinfection with a virulent strain of SF virus for 45 days.  相似文献

30头妊娠母猪随机分为3组,研究了饲粮不同铁水平对其繁殖性能的影响。结果表明,饲粮铁水平200mg/kg组和300mg/kg组与100mg/kg组相比,妊娠母猪90d血清孕酮水平、所生仔猪初生重、仔猪(生后不补铁)断奶重、新生仔猪血红蛋白量和红细胞数都有不同程度的提高;母猪血清含量和仔猪肝脏铁含量也有不同程度的提高。上述提示,适度提高母猪饲粮铁水平能改善母猪的繁殖性能和预防仔猪贫血。  相似文献

Two experiments were undertaken to evaluate whether porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus was able to cross the placenta and infect midgestation fetuses following intranasal inoculation of sows and whether PRRS virus directly infected fetuses following in utero inoculation. In experiment 1, eight sows between 45 and 50 days of gestation were intranasally inoculated with PRRS virus (ATCC VR-2332), and four control sows were inoculated with uninfected cell culture lysate. Virus inoculated sows were viremic on postinoculation (PI) days 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, shed virus in their feces and nasal secretions, and became leukopenic. Sixty-nine of 71 fetuses from principal sows euthanized on PI day 7, 14 or 21 were alive at necropsy and no virus was isolated from any of the fetuses. Two principal sows that farrowed 65 and 67 days PI delivered 25 live piglets and three stillborn fetuses. The PRRS virus was isolated from two live piglets in one litter. In experiment 2, laparotomies were performed on five sows between 40 and 45 days of gestation and fetuses were inoculated in utero with either PRRS virus alone, PRRS virus plus a swine serum containing PRRS antibodies, or uninfected cell culture lysate. Three sows were euthanized on PI day 4 and two sows on PI day 11. Viral replication occurred in fetuses inoculated with virus alone and was enhanced in fetuses inoculated with virus plus antibody.
