The objective of this research was to study the effects of different milling conditions and postmilling handling procedures on appraised milling quality of rough rice. Rough rice (M202) with moisture content of 11.5 ± 0.2% was used for this study. The samples were milled with a McGill number 3 mill under four milling conditions, including normal milling, milling at high temperature, milling with cooling using ice water, and room temperature water. The milled rice samples were cooled in closed and open plastic containers and in open pans with three temperatures: 15, 23, and 35°C. The effects of milling and postmilling conditions on milled rice temperature, moisture loss, cooling rate, single and multiple fissuring rates, total rice yield (TRY), head rice yield (HRY), whiteness index (WI), and total lipid content (TLC) were evaluated. Results showed that high single and multiple fissuring rates and low TRY and HRY were inherent in improper milling and postmilling conditions. Single fissuring rates were 15.9 and 17.6% and multiple fissuring rates were 3.5 and 7.2% for rice samples milled under normal and high‐temperature conditions, respectively. Cooling methods that used open containers and pans had more moisture losses and further resulted in lowering appraised milling quality than methods that used closed containers. Low‐temperature milling conditions followed by cooling in closed containers significantly reduced single and multiple fissuring rates and improved TRY and HRY by 0.9 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively. The effects of tested milling and postmilling conditions on WI and TLC were not significant. Obtained results constitute valuable information for developing milling and cooling procedures to achieve consistent, accurate, and reliable milling quality appraisals for rough rice.  相似文献

Organophosphorus pesticide residues in Mexican commercial pasteurized milk   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
A study was conducted to measure residues of 13 organophosphorus (OP) pesticides, widely used as dairy cattle ectoparasiticides or in crops used for animal feed, in homogenized and pasteurized Mexican milk samples. Four different milk brands with high distribution were collected biweekly during a 12 month period (n = 96) in supermarkets. OP pesticide residues were measured by gas chromatography with a flame photometric detector. Approximately 39.6% of the samples contained detectable levels of OP pesticide residues. Eight samples contained residues exceeding established maximum residue limits (MRL), and the OP pesticides present in these samples were dichlorvos (five samples), phorate, chlorpyrifos, and chlorfenvinphos (one sample, respectively). Average residues of 13 OP pesticides measured were below established MRLs ranging between 0.0051 and 0.0203 ppm.  相似文献

A procedure was proposed for the determination of the maximum allowable soil disturbance in Georgia in order to develop a strategy of soil conservation and restoration. The allowable soil losses were calculated within the risk limits of 0.01 < r < 0.1. The lower and upper limits of the allowable soil loss were determined for the soils of different thicknesses. To compare the rates of the soil erosion, one uses the erosion index: the ratio between the actual erosion rate and its maximum allowable value. The actual erosion rate is determined from erosion equations, in which the integrated parameters of the soil loss tolerance include the permissible flow velocity and data on the climatic and soil conditions. From the estimated allowable soil erosion rates, criteria of decision making can be formulated for substantiating the strategy of soil conservation or restoration.  相似文献

Samples from fifty-eight arable topsoils in south-eastern Scotland were analyzed for compactability, plasticity, organic matter content, particle density, and particle-size distribution. The samples were classified by the methods employed for engineering soils and the groupings so obtained were compared with the textural classes. The criteria for the classification of engineering soils provide useful information on the likely mechanical behaviour of arable soils in the field. Tests were made for correlation between fifteen soil properties. The organic matter content, which in the samples studied ranged from 2 to 10 per cent, was shown to influence several mechanical properties, including optimum moisture content, maximum dry bulk density, liquid limit, and plastic limit. Maximum bulk density and optimum moisture content were strongly correlated with Atterberg limits and organic matter content. The liquid limit was more closely correlated with particle-size distribution than was the plastic limit. Unlike soils encountered in engineering, the particle density of these soils was not correlated with particle-size distribution but, like the Atterberg limits, was strongly correlated with organic matter content.  相似文献

Urban recreation areas of different sizes were investigated in the city of Vladimir. The degree of their contamination with heavy metals and oil products was revealed. The content of heavy metals exceeded their maximum permissible concentrations by more than 2.5 times. The total content of heavy metals decreased in the sequence: Zn > Pb > Co > Mn > Cr > Ni. The mass fraction of oil products in the studied soils varied within the range of 0.016–0.28 mg/g. The reaction of soils in public gardens and a boulevard was neutral or close to neutral; in some soil samples, it was weakly alkaline. The top layer of all the soils significantly differed from the lower one by the higher alkalinity promoting the deposition of heavy metals there. As the content of Ni, Co, and Mn increased and exceeded the background concentrations, but did not reach the three-fold value of the maximum permissible concentrations, the activity of catalase was intensified. The stimulating effect of nickel on the catalase activity was mostly pronounced at the neutral soil reaction. The urease activity increased when heavy metals and oil products were present together in the concentrations above the background ones, but not higher than the three-fold maximal permissible concentrations for heavy metals and 0.3 mg/g for the content of oil products. The nitrifying activity was inhibited by oil hydrocarbons that were recorded in the soils in different amounts.  相似文献

The composition and accumulation patterns of priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils of Vasilievsky Island in Saint Petersburg were studied. Concentrations of benzo[a]pyrene were found to exceed maximum permissible concentrations in all the samples, and the maximum recorded concentration exceeded the MPC by 50 times. Concentrations of other PAHs also exceeded the background values. The main soil pollutants were found to be fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene, and benzo[g, h, i] perylene, the part of which in the total content of PAHs was 65–80%.  相似文献

Urban and peri-urban agriculture in dry semi-arid northern Nigeria relies on untreated wastewater for all-year irrigation and the production of vegetables for urban markets. Human and animal exposure to potentially toxic metals is attributed to the consumption of vegetables raised in metal-polluted soils. The objective of this study was to determine the bioavailability and soil–plant transfer of Cd, Pb and Zn to amaranthus (Amaranthus caudatus) and lettuce (Latuca sativa) raised in the garden fields and to assess their safety for human consumption. Ten farmers’ fields were selected per location for analysis of Cd, Pb and Zn in soils and vegetables. Whereas total concentrations of Cd and Zn were greater than the safe or permissible limits for agricultural soils, the Pb concentration was less than its maximum allowable concentration. However, the concentration of Pb and Cd in edible portions of amaranthus exceeded the safe limit for human consumption by 7–13 times, while lettuce exceeded the limit by 11–17 times. Cadmium was more rapidly transferred from soil through root to shoot than Zn > Pb. The plant tissue concentrations of the metals were not significantly correlated with the Diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) and dilute CaCl2-extractable concentrations of the metals in the soils. Furthermore, permissible limit of Pb established as standards for agricultural lands may not be suitable to ensure produce safety in Urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) in the city of Kano.  相似文献

Bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol B (BPB) concentrations were determined in peeled canned tomatoes of different brands bought in Italian supermarkets. Tomato samples analyzed were packaged in cans coated with either epoxyphenolic lacquer or low BADGE enamel. A solid phase extraction (SPE) was performed on C-18 Strata E cartridge followed by a step on Florisil cartridge. Detection and quantitation were performed by a reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method with both UV and fluorescence detection (FD). On the total of 42 tested tomato samples, BPA was detected in 22 samples (52.4%), while BPB was detected in 9 samples (21.4%). BPA and BPB were simultaneously present in 8 of the analyzed samples. The levels of BPA found in this study are much lower than the European Union migration limits of 3 mg/kg food and reasonably unable to produce a daily intake exceeding the limit of 0.05 mg/kg body weight, established by European Food Safety Authority.  相似文献

Nonylphenol (NP) is used as an antioxidant and plasticizer in some plastic products. After the discovery of its endocrine-disrupting potential, concern over human exposure to this chemical has increased. Recently, a group in Germany estimated the average daily intake of NP from food (7.5 microg/day), excluding water. In the present study, NP, octylphenol (OP), and their respective ethoxylates (1-5) were measured in spring water bottled in three different types of plastic (HDPE, PET, and PVC). NP was present in water from HDPE and PVC containers, at 180 and 300 ng/L respectively, which represent 4.8% and 8% of the value calculated by the German group assuming a consumption of 2 L of water per day. OP was found in water from HDPE extracts in lower amounts, 12 ng/L, and neither the NP- nor the OP-ethoxylates were detected in any of the samples. Attempts to measure these compounds in tap water were unsuccessful, probably because reaction with residual chlorine results in the formation of chlorinated byproducts. Migration of NP from HDPE containers to a milk surrogate was also evaluated; results indicate that the amounts of NP leaching into milk might be similar to those in bottled water.  相似文献

Arsenic (As), which is present in all living tissues, water, and soil, is considered toxic to humans and animals. Because of the presence of arsenic-contaminated sites throughout the world, there is a renewed interest in studying the status of As in water, soil, and plants. Concentrations of As above the permissible limit have been reported in Lower Ganges Plains (West Bengal in India and Bangladesh). The present investigation aimed to examine the concentration of As in water, soil, and rice plants in the Upper/Trans-Ganges Plains covering Punjab in northwestern India. In total, 200 water samples were collected from different locations in Punjab. Corresponding soil, rice grain, and straw samples were collected from the same locations as the water samples had been collected. In addition to deep tube well water (>125 m deep), water samples from shallow hand pumps (<50 m deep) and canals were also collected. The samples were analyzed for total As concentration using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipped with a hydride generating system (AAS-HG). The concentration of As in tube well water samples varied from 5.33 to 17.27 μg As L–1, with about 40% samples having As concentrations greater than the permissible limit (10 μg As L–1). None of the hand pump and canal water samples had As concentrations greater than permissible limits. The As concentration of surface soils varied from 1.09 to 2.48 mg As kg–1. There was no trend in the distribution of As with depth of soil. The concentration of As in rice straw varied from 4.05 to 15.06 μg As kg–1 and that of grain from 1.48 to 6.87 μg As kg–1. The concentration of As was lower in edible grain than in inedible straw. There was a positive and significant correlation between As concentration in tube well water and As concentration in surface soils. The buildup of As in soils was directly related to the As concentration of tube well waters. There was a significant correlation between As in water and As in plants. However, a nonsignificant correlation existed between As in soil and As in plants. This indicates that plants absorbed more As from irrigation water than that from soil. This also suggests that irrigation with such waters over a longer period of time may have detrimental effects on soil and on plants, animals, and humans. There is thus a need to continuously monitor the As concentration in undergroundwater.  相似文献

Euonymus kiautschovica Loes. ‘Sieboldiana’ plants were grown in small‐volume (450 cm3) or large‐volume (13,500 cm3) plastic containers in the greenhouse in a medium containing sandy loam, perlite, and compost and harvested at 4‐week intervals from the time of planting until 20 weeks. Plants were irrigated with a nutrient solution 3x ‐ 5x daily to prevent water and nutrient stress. After 8 weeks, leaf number, leaf area, and shoot length of lateral shoots from plants grown in small‐volume containers were significantly less than those of plants grown in large‐volume containers for both lateral shoots and the total plant. These differences persisted for the next 12 weeks. There were no differences, however, in shoot length, leaf number, or leaf area of the main shoot of plants grown in large or small‐volume containers, even after 20 weeks of root restriction. Thus, the reduction in overall growth of root‐restricted plants could be attributed almost entirely to a reduction in growth of the lateral buds. These findings have important implications for researchers and growers involved in container culture, where root confinement frequently occurs.  相似文献

The tea plant is known as a fluorine accumulator. Fluoride (F) content in fresh leaves collected from 14 plantations in China was investigated. The F increased with maturity, and the F variation was remarkable in the tender shoots. Furthermore, significant negative relationships were observed between F content and the content of the quality parameters total polyphenols and amino acids. These substances are rich in young leaves and poor in mature ones. With regard to quality of tea products, the relationship with F content was studied using 12 brands of tea products in four categories: green tea, oolong tea, black tea, and jasmine tea collected from six provinces. The F level increased with the decline in quality and showed good correlation with the quality grades. The results suggest that the F content could be used as a quality indicator for tea evaluation.  相似文献

Current UK legislation permits the application of sewage sludge to agricultural land provided concentrations of heavy metals in soil do not increase above maximum permissible limits. However, even within the defined limits, we do not know how an increase in soil heavy metal concentrations is likely to affect biological diversity and activity. Here we report on the effects of sewage sludge addition, including sludge rich in the metals cadmium, copper and zinc, on soil fungal community composition using both an rDNA and rRNA DGGE approach. Sewage sludge addition altered fungal ITS-DGGE banding patterns, however, there were no additional effects of an increase in soil heavy metal concentrations. Similar results were obtained for the full range of copper rich sludge treatments even when copper concentrations were well above the maximum permissible limits. Our data therefore demonstrate that although an increase in soil organic matter content alters soil fungal community diversity and composition, increasing soil concentrations of cadmium, copper and zinc up to current legislative limits had little additional effect regardless of whether rRNA or rDNA was analysed. This suggests that current UK limits for these three heavy metals are within a concentration range that the dominant soil fungi at this field site can tolerate.  相似文献

为了解酒泉小麦胚片质量现状和确定酒泉小麦胚片中的优势指标,给当地小麦胚的精深加工和麦胚相关产品的价值提升提供参考。采集了23份酒泉小麦胚片和5份其他产地的小麦胚片,对其脂肪、重金属元素、农药残留等13项指标进行测定分析,从营养成分和安全性两个方面进行量化评价。结果表明,酒泉小麦胚片中各营养成分含量相对稳定,总灰分、钠、钙含量与其他产地持平,脂肪、蛋白质和镁等指标优于其他产地,其中镁的优势最突出。安全性指标中,酒泉小麦胚中的铅、总砷和总汞含量与其他产地持平;镉含量明显低于其他产地,是较有优势的安全指标,脂肪酸值含量低于标准最高限量,但变异性较大。  相似文献

A headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and gas chromatography-selective ion monitoring/mass spectrometry (GC-SIM/MS) method was optimized for analysis of 22 volatile compounds in orujo spirit samples from the Geographic Denomination "Orujo de Galicia/Augardente de Galicia". HS-SPME experimental conditions, such as fiber coating, extraction temperature, extraction and pre-equilibrium time, sample volume, and the presence of salt, were studied to improve the extraction process. The best results were obtained using a 65 microm Carbowax-divinylbenzene fiber during a headspace extraction at 40 degrees C with constant magnetic stirring for 15 min and after a 5 min period of pre-equilibrium time. The sample volume was 6 mL of orujo containing 25% of NaCl, placed in 12 mL glass vials equipped with a screw cap and PTFE/silicone septum. Desorption was performed directly in the gas chromatograph injector port for 5 min at 250 degrees C using the splitless mode. The proposed method is sensible (with detection limits between 0.0045 and 0.2399 mg/L), precise (with coefficients of variation in the range 0.99-8.18%), and linear over more than 1 order of magnitude. The developed method presented recoveries comprised between 76.0 and 112.4%. The applicability of the new method was demonstrated by determining the considered 22 volatile compounds in nine orujo commercial samples with quality and origin brands.  相似文献

Both specific and overall migration tests have been applied to new experimental food packaging-active plastic films with antioxidant properties, including in its composition a natural rosemary extract. Determination of volatile and semivolatile compounds migrating from plastic to the four established simulants showed that both specific and overall migration was very low. The results obtained gave values 20 times lower than the established limits in the worst case. So, from the point of view of health risk, the new active packaging can be considered as safe. Analytical procedure used provided the necessary information about the migration behavior, with good analytical characteristics and detection limits in the sub mug kg(-1) range. Besides, no significant difference was found between laboratory and factory-made samples, which is an important issue for industrial production, the next step in the development of the new antioxidant active film.  相似文献

Soil samples collected from 32 sites across Israel representing major types were analyzed for their pedological characteristics and mechanical properties. Correlative relationships between shrinkage (measured by the coefficient of linear extensibility, COLE), Atterberg limits (liquid and plastic) and the physical and chemical properties were established and indicate possibilities of estimating mechanical properties from known pedological data. Strong correlations were noted between mechanical properties and the pedological characteristics reflecting clay mineralogy and texture, e.g. cation-exchange capacity, specific surface area, hygroscopic moisture and clay content. These relationships are useful inasmuch as clay mineralogy is usually evident from soil classification. Sodicity and salinity, common in dry soils of semi-arid regions, may introduce complicating factors such as raising or lowering Atterberg limits, respectively. Shrinkage is similarly affected being accentuated at high-sodium, low-salt levels and reduced in highly saline-sodic soils. Organic matter was correlated with liquid and plastic limits, but no relationship with shrinkage was noted. Calcium carbonate also had little influence on Atterberg limits.The relationships presented may serve as first approximations. Mechanical properties of the soil groups illustrate the range of values encountered among regions with differing environmental conditions.  相似文献

Bacteriological analysis were performed on collected water samples from a conventional water treatment pilot plant in Cincinnati, Ohio in which granular activated carbon (GAC) has been used as the final process to assess the impact of GAC on the bacteriological quality and incidence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in water produced. Heterotrophic bacterial counts (HPC) at 20 °C was stabilized at 102 to 194 cfu mL-1 and did not markedly differ at different water treatment processes. On the other hand, slight reduction in HPC was observed for the effluent produced from sand filter and GAC contactors. Effluents produced from both the sand filter and GAC contactors showed 2 log reduction in coliforms count. Fecal coliform showed the same rate of reduction as a result of sand filtration, while it reached undetectable numbers in the effluent of GAC contactors. Subculturing the isolated strains in tryptic soy broth revealed that 61.3, 61.5, 12.6 and 8.5% of HPC at 28 °C, total coliforms and fecal coliform, respectively were non-culturable. In this case, R2A or R3A broth was used as subculturing media. The incidence of coliform resistant strains among isolates varied significantly according to the source of water samples. Multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) was not always high in the same samples in which the overall resistance was high. The species composition varied considerably in different water samples. Selection for bacteria exhibiting resistance to antibiotic or antibiotics was observed under some experimental conditions using different doses of chlorine. The antibiotic resistance character was mostly transferable. As a conclusion, the use of GAC has no observable adverse effect on the bacteriological quality of the water produced from the pilot plant under investigation.  相似文献

Food and beverage products stored in polyethylene (PE) containers may absorb some of PE's volatile minor components and become tainted by its characteristic "plastic" odor. High-density PE containers that had imparted "plastic" odor to an experimental corn chip product were analyzed by simultaneous distillation/extraction to remove the volatile components, by gas chromatography/olfactometry (GC/O) to locate the offending components and by 2-D GC/mass spectrometry (MS) to identify the major "plastic" odor contributor (8-nonenal). The identification was made using high-resolution electron ionization and chemical ionization MS data to narrow the possibilities to two isomers of nonenal, followed by retrieval of reference spectra and confirmatory synthesis. By monitoring 8-nonenal in HDPE containers and corn chips it was demonstrated that 8-nonenal tracks with "plastic" aroma observed in containers and with "plastic" flavor observed in corn chips stored in the containers.  相似文献

The quality of the water from 62 home wells in a section (with no sewerage system) of the agricultural-industrial area of La Plata, was analyzed. The measurement of the studied parameters concentrations were compared with those obtained in seventeen water wells located in another area of town, with commercial characteristics. The pH, total dissolved salts (TDS), nitrates, chlorides, total hardness (TH) and coliform bacteria, these being differentiated between colifaecals and IAC group bacteria, were studied. The average concentration of TDS was 619 and 497 mg L-1 respectively. 34% of the samples exceeded the limit of 45 mg L-1 established by the World Health Organization (WHO). The nitrate levels varied widely from 6 to 216 mg L-1, with an average value of 56 mg L-1 in the agricultural area, and between 5 and 61 mg L-1 in the commercial area, with an average of 19 mg L-1. The average concentrations of chlorides and TH were 89 mg L-1 and 177 mg L-1, respectively in the agricultural area; while in the other area, the average levels were 38 mg L-1 chloride and 107 mg L-1 TH. Significant differences were observed between the chemical parameters evaluated in the two areas analyzed. E. Coli bacterium was detected in 49% of the well water samples analyzed. IAC group bacteria were confirmed in 28% of the samples. The average depth of the water wells within 10 m from the cesspits was 28.2 m, and those situated farther than 10 m. had an average of 39.9 m depth. Results indicated a remarkable quality degradation of the well waters as regards their contents of E. Coli bacteria and nitrate. This could be due to the deficient construction of the absorption wells, to their closeness with cesspits and the inexistence of septic chambers within every dwelling.  相似文献
