The accumulation of bacteria in vase water is often associated with premature senescence in many cut flower species. In the present study, we tested the efficacy of aqueous chlorine dioxide (ClO2) to extend flower display life by preventing the build-up of bacteria in vase solutions. The addition of 2 or 10 μL L−1 ClO2 to clean deionized water extended the vase life of Alstroemeria peruviana ‘Senna’, Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomic Pink’, Dianthus caryophyllus ‘Pasha’, Gerbera jamesonii ‘Monarch’, Gypsophila paniculata ‘Crystal’ and ‘Perfecta’, Lilium asiaticum ‘Vermeer’, Matthiola incana ‘Ruby Red’ and Rosa hybrida ‘Charlotte’ flowers by 0.9–13.4 d (7–77%) relative to control (i.e. 0 μL L−1 ClO2) stems. The beneficial effects of ClO2 treatment were associated with a reduction in the accumulation of aerobic bacteria in vase water and on cut surfaces of flower stems. ClO2 treatment was also effective in maintaining or extending the vase life of A. majus ‘Potomic Pink’, Dendrathema × grandiflorum ‘Albatron’, G. paniculata ‘Perfecta’ and M. incana ‘Ruby Red’ flowers even when stems were placed into water containing 1011 CFU L−1 bacteria. The efficacy of 10 μL L−1 ClO2 in vase water containing 0.2 g L−1 citric acid and 10 g L−1 sucrose to extend the display life of G. jamesonii ‘Lorca’ and ‘Vilassar’ flowers was equal to or greater than other tested biocides (i.e. aluminum sulfate, dichloroisocyanuric acid, 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate, Physan 20™, sodium hypochlorite). Taken collectively, the results of the present study highlight the potential of aqueous ClO2 for use as an alternative antibacterial agent in flower vase solutions.  相似文献

We developed neural network (NN) models using environmental, morphological, and physiological parameters to predict the vase life of cut roses grown in a greenhouse. These parameters were obtained during the growing and pre-marketing stages. A back-propagation training algorithm was used to develop the vase life prediction model. The network consisted of 29, 26, and 1 processing units in the input, hidden, and output layers, respectively. The NN was trained using the data of 123 cut ‘Asami Red’ roses and was validated using other data obtained from 30 cut roses. The results showed that the NN model had a relatively higher predictability (r2 = 0.886, RMSEP = 0.984) between the predicted and observed values. Mixed data of rose cultivars ‘Asami Red’, ‘Bridal Pink’ and ‘Sonia’ were used to train the model. The validated model using the test data of the three cultivars still showed a good predictability (r2 = 0.835, RMSEP = 1.126). The analyses showed that the NN model can predict the vase life of cut roses better than traditional statistical methods. Thus, we conclude that the NN is a superior approach to predict and guarantee the vase life of cut roses.  相似文献

The relationship between fragrance and vase life and the role of ethylene on volatile emission in cut rose flowers was investigated. No relationship was observed between the amounts of volatile compounds emitted and vase life when fragrant and non-fragrant rose cultivars were compared. Neither ethylene production nor respiration rate of flowers was directly related with vase life. Volatile production during vase life was differential and independent among volatiles originating from different biosynthetic groups. Ethylene did not play a role in the regulation of volatile emission in rose flowers. Endogenous ethylene production was very low in most of the cultivars and did not show autocatalytic production trends. Volatile emission patterns during vase life did not parallel endogenous ethylene production. Exogenous ethylene exposure had differential effects among all cultivars, regardless of the fragrance of the flower. Fragrant cultivar ‘Osiana’ was highly sensitive to exogenous ethylene, with petals abscising within 24 h of ethylene (1 μL L?1) exposure while other fragrant cultivars ‘Erin’ and ‘Lovely Dream’ had low ethylene sensitivity. Volatile production was unaffected by exogenous ethylene. The results of this study indicate that volatile emission in cut roses is not regulated by endogenous or exogenous ethylene and occurs independently of petal senescence and/or abscission. These results provide a better understanding of the complexity of volatile emission in rose flowers.  相似文献

With the aim of extending vase life of cut dahlia flowers, we investigated the postharvest characteristics of the flowers. Our focus was on the role of ethylene on senescence and on treatments that have extended vase life of other flowers. Continuous exposure to ethylene at 2 or 10 μL L−1 significantly accelerated petal abscission in cut flowers. Flowers continuously immersed in 1 or 10 μL L−1 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (CEPA) solution wilted earlier than those treated with distilled water (DW) or 0.15 g L−1 citric acid. Ethylene production from the ovary and ray petal was relatively high (4.5 and 0.9 nL g−1 fresh weight h−1, respectively) at harvest, but decreased gradually over 5 days. No remarkable increase in ethylene production was observed during senescence. Silver thiosulfate complex (STS), an inhibitor of ethylene action, did not extend the vase life of cut flowers, although a high silver concentration was detected in flower organs. In contrast, pulse treatment with 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and dip treatment with 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) extended the vase life of florets, and BA was more effective than 1-MCP when the flowers were held in both DW and CEPA. BA spray treatment extended vase life of cut ‘Kokucho,’ ‘Kamakura’ and ‘Michan’ flowers. These results suggest that dahlia flower senescence is partially regulated by ethylene, and BA is more effective in delaying the senescence of cut dahlia flowers than ethylene action inhibitors.  相似文献

Ptilotus nobilis (Lindl.) F. Muell. has potential in the floriculture industries as a cut flower crop. Ethylene production and respiration rates, fresh weight changes and volatile scent production from cut inflorescences of P. nobilis cultivars Passion (dark pink flowers) and Purity (white-green flowers) were measured during vase life. Inflorescence weight loss was significant (P < 0.001) during vase life with wilting and colour loss being the primary reasons for loss of vase life. Inflorescences ready for the cut market stored and at 22 °C had vase lives of >12 d. Ethylene production by inflorescences was low to negligible. Treatment with silverthiosulphate (STS) and ethylene had no effects on vase life. Evidently, ethylene did not play a role in determining the postharvest longevity of cut P. nobilis flowers. Respiration rates of inflorescences were high at harvest (>700 mg CO2 kg−1 FW h−1) and declined gradually thereafter during vase life. Total volatile emissions followed a similar pattern. For Passion, respiration rates of immature florets were significantly greater (P = 0.02) than florets from other developmental stages while the calyx produced the most CO2. For Purity, respiration rates of florets of different maturities did not differ and the reproductive tissue produced the most CO2. Only fully opened mature florets with their stigma and anthers revealed, emitted significant quantities of volatiles (P < 0.001) and primarily from the calyx tissue for both cultivars. The individual volatiles differed somewhat for the two cultivars. However, both produced significant quantities of benzaldehyde, 3,5-dimethoxytoluene and benzyl alcohol. These compounds have previously been associated with desirable floral scent.  相似文献

In sweet osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans Lour.) flowers, petal browning, partial abscission and wilting are the visible symptoms of senescence, 4–5 days after flowering, which seriously affect its ornamental and economic value. In the present study, DNA fragmentation was used as a marker to investigate the role of ethylene and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in flower senescence of O. fragrans ‘Liuye Jingui’. In intact plants, nuclear shrinkage and DNA fragmentation occurred at the late full flowering stage when senescence symptoms became visible. This coincided with a rapid increase in ethylene production, ROS generation and lipid peroxidation. To further determine the role of ethylene and ROS in flower senescence, cut flowers were treated with ethephon, silver thiosulphate (STS), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and vitamin C (Vc). The vase life of cut flowers was significantly prolonged by 0.2 mM STS and 2.5 mM Vc treatments, but reduced by 0.03% H2O2 and 500 mg L−1 ethephon treatments, compared to distilled water. The percentage of DNA fragmentation was dramatically increased by ethephon but reduced by STS treatment throughout vase life. In contrast, the dramatic increase of DNA fragmentation in the H2O2 treated samples was only observed at day three, and clear petal abscission and rapid petal wilting occurred only with ethephon. Compared with the distinguishable nuclei and complete vacuoles in both STS treatment and distilled water, ethephon treatment caused substantial damage to large central vacuoles and other organelles, and many petal cells twisted out of shape due to a loss of cytoplasm, resulting in rapid petal wilting. Thus, it is concluded that ethylene plays an important role in flower senescence of sweet osmanthus, enhancing DNA fragmentation, damaging cellular structure, and leading to petal abscission and wilting. In addition, ROS is also involved in the regulation of late DNA degradation and lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

The present research investigated the effects of a non-volatile formulation of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) embedded in different cyclodextrin (CD)-based nanosponges (NSs) to extend the postharvest longevity of an ethylene-sensitive carnation cultivar. Cut flowers of Dianthus caryophyllus L. ‘Idra di Muraglia’ were treated with α- and β-CD-based nanosponge-1-MCP complexes (α- and β-NS complexes) in tap water to achieve two different concentrations of active ingredient (0.25 and 0.5 μL L?1). Treated flowers were compared to cut stems exposed to equivalent concentrations of volatile 1-MCP as well as a tap water control with or without pure α- and β-NS. Identical nanoporous compounds were applied by perfusion to yield a total of 15 treatments. Twenty-four hours after the treatments were applied, the cut flowers were exposed to exogenous ethylene (1 ± 0.2 μL L?1) for 24 h. The postharvest carnation flower and leaf quality in addition to ethylene production levels were determined daily (beginning 24 h after treatment). None of the α-NS complex applications statistically improved the vase life of cut flowers; however, β-NS complexes were effective in preventing senescence, reducing ethylene production (measured at nearly nil after 11 d), and maintaining original petal color longer. These results were particularly strong at the lowest concentration (0.25 μL L?1) of β-NS complex. Overall, this method promoted cut flower longevity (loss of ornamental value after 14.7 d; complete damage at day 18.5) better than the commercial 1-MCP gaseous application method.  相似文献

The effect of pre-processing storage time and temperature on post-cutting quality of two artichoke cultivars (‘Catanese’ and ‘Violetto Foggiano’) was studied. Artichoke heads were harvested in January 2010 for ‘Catanese’ and in March 2011 for ‘Violetto Foggiano’ from commercial plantations. Freshly harvested artichoke heads were stored at 0, 5, and 12 °C in a humidified flow of air. Initially, and after 3 and 7 days of storage, respiration rate, weight loss, and electrolytic leakage were monitored. Moreover, at each sampling, artichokes were cut in quarters and stored for additional 3 days at 5 °C. On cut artichokes, soon after cutting and after post-cutting storage, visual appearance, color attributes (on outer bract surface, on cut bracts, and on cut receptacle surface) and phenol content were determined. Time and temperature of storage influenced quality attributes of cut artichokes, but to a different extent depending on the cultivar, whereas temperature did not affect the phenol content. ‘Violetto Foggiano’ artichokes benefited from pre-cutting low storage temperature (0 °C), whereas ‘Catanese’ showed physiological injuries on outer bract surfaces, where brown spots occurred. In both cases low temperatures during pre-cutting storage (5 and 0 °C) reduced the browning rate of the cut surface which maintained a higher L* value, compared to artichokes stored at 12 °C. Moreover, pre-cutting storage at 12 °C resulted in a reduction of quality of artichokes due to growth of floral primordia in the form of reddish tissues at the base of the receptacle for both cultivars. Management of storage conditions before cutting is therefore critical in fresh-cut processing operations of artichokes.  相似文献

Chrysanthemum (White, Yellow, and Daisy), carnation (Master and Barbara), rose (Carola, Black magic, Diana, Champagne, and Avalanche), and Chinese rose (Golden Medallion, Diplomat, Marina, and Athena) are the main Chinese cut flower species produced for exportation. Cut flowers infested with quarantine pests need methyl bromide (MB) fumigation to satisfy phytosanitary requirements of importing countries. Phosphine (PH3) is a potential alternative to methyl bromide. Development of phosphine as a phytosanitary treatment requires information regarding its phytotoxicity to cut flowers. Therefore phosphine fumigation at 24 °C and 2 °C was investigated to evaluate its effects on the postharvest quality of cut flowers. Phosphine fumigation for 6 h with dosages as high as 12.2 mg L−1 at 24 °C produced no adverse effects on flower color, diameter, vase life, and other damage indices (DI) for all cultivars. However, different adverse effects on some cultivars were observed after 12 d fumigation at 2 °C. There were significant changes for color values of Carola, Black magic, Diana, Champagne, Avalanche, and Diplomat; significant decrease in flower diameter and vase life of Diana, Champagne, and Avalanche at 3.04 mg L−1, white Chrysanthemum and Diploma at 1.52 and 3.04 mg L−1; significant increase in DI of Champagne and Avalanche at 3.04 mg L−1, and White chrysanthemum, Diana, and Diploma at 1.52 and 3.04 mg L−1. In combination with information on phosphine toxicity to insect pests at ambient and low temperatures in the literature, it is suggested that phosphine fumigation could be a viable replacement of MB fumigation for quarantine treatment of these four cut flower species.  相似文献

Separate experiments were conducted with three major commercial avocado (Persea americana Mill.) cultivars grown in Florida: ‘Simmonds’ (early-season, West Indian race); ‘Booth 7’ (mid-season, Guatemalan-West Indian hybrid); and ‘Monroe’ (late-season, Guatemalan-West Indian hybrid). Fruit were harvested at preclimacteric stage and left untreated (Control) or treated 24 h after harvest with aqueous 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) at 1.39 (treatment M1) or 2.77 μmol L−1 a.i. (treatment M2) (75 or 150 μg L−1) for 1 min at 20 °C. Whole fruit ripening was monitored at 20 °C/92% ± 3% R.H. and based on whole fruit firmness, respiration and ethylene evolution. Fruit volatiles were assessed at preclimacteric (24 h after harvest), mid-ripe (half of initial fruit firmness) and ripe maturity stages, from 100 g of chopped pulp using a purge and trap system. Untreated, firmer fruit ‘Monroe’ (268 N at harvest) ripened within 12 d of harvest while softer fruit ‘Simmonds’ (118 N) ripened within only 6 d. 1-MCP treatment extended ripening time from 33% (M1) to 83% (M2). All fruit softened normally, indicating the potential benefits of aqueous 1-MCP as a postharvest treatment for avocado when applied at these concentrations. Volatile profiles differed among the three cultivars with several compounds detected in only one cultivar, results that may contribute to a potential identification of the origin of the cultivar based on fruit volatile composition. The West Indian cultivar ‘Simmonds’ had much higher emission of hexanal (preclimacteric fruit) and cis-3-hexenal and cis-3-hexen-1-ol (ripe fruit) than the Guatemalan-West Indian hybrids ‘Booth 7’ and ‘Monroe’. On the other hand, these latter hybrids had much higher levels of alkanes than ‘Simmonds’. Treatment with 1-MCP increased emissions of alkanes during ripening of ‘Booth 7’ and ‘Monroe’. Total volatiles of avocado decreased during ripening mainly due to the significant reduction of sesquiterpenes, the main group of volatiles in all cultivars at harvest (‘Simmonds’, 53%; ‘Booth 7’, 78%; ‘Monroe’, 66%). β-Caryophyllene was the major compound at harvest, but decreased to less than 2% in ripe fruit, at which point most sesquiterpenes were not detected. Among the 10 sesquiterpenes commonly found in the avocado cultivars in this study, only α-Copaene had significantly higher emissions in mid-ripe fruit treated with the higher concentration of 1-MCP (2.77 μmol L−1 a.i.), suggesting that ethylene participates in the regulation of this sesquiterpene.  相似文献

The underlying causes as well as chemical and biochemical alleviation for CO2-induced browning in apple fruit are poorly understood. Ascorbic acid (AsA) dynamics in ‘Braeburn,’ a susceptible cultivar, and ‘Gala’, a resistant cultivar, were evaluated during on-tree development and storage at 0.5 °C in air or controlled atmospheres (CA) containing 1 kPa O2 and 1, 3 or 5 kPa CO2. ‘Braeburn’ fruit treated with diphenylamine (DPA) was also stored for 1 month to determine effects on browning incidence and AsA concentration. ‘Braeburn’ apples had significantly higher (p  0.05) AsA levels than ‘Gala’ during on-tree development, and storage. No correlation between AsA and maturity/ripening indices for ‘Braeburn’ or ‘Gala’ was apparent. Histochemical localization of fruit AsA showed a staining intensity consistent with the quantity analytically determined, and showed that AsA is diffusely distributed throughout the cortex in both cultivars during on-tree development. During storage, AsA was localized to the periphery of brown tissue in ‘Braeburn’ and to the coreline and cortex proximal to the peel in ‘Braeburn’ and ‘Gala’ tissues. DPA decreased browning development during storage, however, no correlation between DPA treatment and AsA quantity in healthy or brown cortex tissue was observed. The results indicate AsA quantity alone is not an indicator of CO2 sensitivity in these two cultivars.  相似文献

Over 54,600 ha of table grapes (Vitis vinifera), mainly cvs. ‘Thompson Seedless’, ‘Flame Seedless’ and ‘Redglobe’, are planted in Chile. Almost the entire production is exported to the USA, Europe, Asia, or one of several Latin American countries, which typically requires 15–40 d of maritime transportation. During this period, several physical, physiological, and pathological factors cause table grape deterioration. Because berry size is the main quality factor in international markets, farmers often overuse the growth regulators, gibberellic acid (GA3) and forchlorfenuron (CPPU), in an effort to increase berry size. We examined the effect of preharvest growth regulators on seedless (‘Thompson Seedless’, and ‘Ruby Seedless’) and seeded (‘Redglobe’) table grape cultivars during cold (0 °C) storage plus a shelf life period of 3 d at 20 °C. The overuse of GA3, eight instead of two GA3 applications on Thompson Seedless, and the use of one GA3 application on Redglobe and ‘Ruby Seedless’, increased berry pedicel thickness and lowered cuticle content but induced shatter and predisposed grapes to gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea. In contrast, CPPU increased berry pedicel thickness and cuticle content but did not increase shatter or gray mold incidence. Clusters that were subjected to overuse of combined GA3 and CPPU were highly sensitive to shatter, had the thickest pedicel, and developed a high gray mold incidence during cold storage. Hairline, a fine cracking developed during cold storage, was induced on ‘Thompson Seedless’ and ‘Ruby Seedless’ by growth regulators, but no hairline occurred on ‘Redglobe’ table grapes. Therefore, berry quality during cold storage is greatly influenced by growth regulator management in the vineyard.  相似文献

Previously we reported that postproduction quality of pot ‘Seadov’ tulip (Tulipa gesneriana) was significantly increased by GA4+7 plus BA in a manner dependent on the concentration and stage of flower development at application. In these experiments, we extended the survey to 20 tulip cultivars to further evaluate the effects of GA4+7 plus BA sprays for enhancing postproduction flower and leaf quality. The senescence symptom of the cultivars fell into three categories: wilting, wilting-abscission (abscission shortly after tepal wilting) and abscission (abscission without wilting), with the majority of the cultivars belonging to the wilting and wilting-abscission categories. Pots bearing six plants were sprayed with a range of GA4+7 plus BA concentrations at marketable stage and placed in a simulated consumer environment (SCE). GA4+7 plus BA significantly enhanced individual flower and postproduction longevity, but the effect was dependent upon the senescence category of the cultivar. In general, GA4+7 plus BA increased individual flower and postproduction longevity of wilting-type cultivars at concentrations above 10 mg L?1, while longevity of wilting-abscission-type cultivars was only enhanced by 50 mg L?1. Abscission-type cultivars were not affected by any concentrations of GA4+7 plus BA. Regardless of floral senescence category, leaf yellowing was significantly reduced by GA4+7 plus BA sprays in those cultivars showing postproduction leaf yellowing. GA4+7 plus BA did not induce leaf and stem elongation in most cultivars. Only ‘Yellow Baby’, the shortest cultivar, showed elongation of stem and leaf by GA4+7 plus BA at concentrations above 25 mg L?1. Spray applications of GA4+7 plus BA can be useful to enhance flower and leaf quality in pot tulips.  相似文献

Fern leaves, also called fronds, are often used in bouquets. Leaves of the sword fern (Nephrolepis cordifolia) consist of a central vascular tissue, with numerous leaflets (pinnae) at each side. Leaves that have been cut and immediately placed in water show abscission of the pinnae, starting from about day 4 of vase life, with 50% pinnae abscission on day 13. The onset of pinnae abscission was hastened by a period of dehydration (3, 6, 9 or 12 h at 25 °C). The time to 50% pinnae abscission was between 7.0 and 4.7 days after 3 h and 12 h of dehydration, respectively. Dehydration treatments might induce air emboli in the xylem, but in these experiments did not inhibit water uptake. Dehydration did increase the rate of ethylene production of the cut leaves throughout vase life. A 3 h treatment with 1-MCP at concentrations of 200 or 300 nL L?1 prior to the period of dehydration reduced the rate of ethylene production and reduced the rate of abscission. 1-MCP treatments were also effective if given after the period of dehydration. The data show that pinnae abscission limits the vase life of cut leaves of the sword fern, and that a short period of water stress drastically increases the rate of abscission. The increase in pinnae abscission was correlated with an increase in ethylene production. As 1-MCP alleviated the effect of dehydration on pinnae abscission, the dehydration effect involved ethylene perception. The data suggest that a small water stress induced an autocatalytic rise in ethylene production which was the direct cause of the increase in pinnae abscission.  相似文献

Two citrus types (‘Fallglo’ and ‘Lee × Orlando’) exhibiting differential fruit degreening response when treated with ethylene were selected. Fruit were harvested at commercial maturity but at different developmental periods (Harvest I, II and III). Rate of color change was greater in ‘Fallglo’ than in ‘Lee × Orlando’ when fruit were treated with 5 μL L−1 of ethylene for 24 h. After 24 h of transfer of fruit to ethylene-free storage, rate of change decreased in ‘Fallgo’ and exhibited varied response in ‘Lee × Orlando’ depending on harvest date. ‘Fallglo’ fruit from Harvests I and II were completely degreened at the end of storage for 7 d; however ‘Lee × Orlando’ were not and were green in color. No difference in seedling triple response was observed between ‘Fallglo’ and ‘Lee × Orlando’ and sequences of the four ethylene receptors were identical between them. Expression of genes involved in ethylene biosynthesis and signaling pathways were studied in flavedo to test if differences in these pathways were correlated with differential ethylene sensitivity of the citrus types. Basal levels of ACS2 and ACO expressions declined as maturity progressed, and ethylene-induced expression of ACS1 and ACO were influenced by fruit maturity. At Harvests I and II, ethylene-induced increase in ACS1 and ACO expressions and ACC levels were greater in ‘Fallglo’ than in ‘Lee × Orlando’. Ethylene treatment influenced MACC content only during Harvest I in ‘Lee × Orlando’. MACC levels were generally higher in ‘Lee × Orlando’ than in ‘Fallglo’. Expressions of ETR1 and ETR2 were ethylene responsive in ‘Fallglo’ and only ETR1 expression was ethylene responsive in ‘Lee × Orlando’. Ethylene had more impact on ETR1 expression in ‘Fallglo’ than in ‘Lee × Orlando’. Ethylene had a negative effect on ETR3 expression which was more pronounced in ‘Lee × Orlando’ than in ‘Fallglo’. Expressions of ERS1, CTR1, EIN2, EIL1 and EIL2 were not affected by ethylene in both citrus types. Expression of chlorophyllase gene and rate of total chlorophyll degradation were higher in ‘Fallglo’ than in ‘Lee × Orlando’ during ethylene treatment. Differential degreening behavior of ‘Fallglo’ and ‘Lee × Orlando’ correlated with peel maturity, and factor(s) downstream of ethylene signaling but upstream of ethylene biosynthesis play a role in the differential sensitivity.  相似文献

The effects of high O2 and high CO2 throughout storage on the microbial and sensory quality of fresh-cut bell peppers from two commercial ‘California’ cultivars grown under different climatic conditions were studied. The ‘Meteor’ cultivar was minimally processed in Leuven (Belgium) and the ‘Requena’ cultivar in Cartagena (Murcia, Spain). The storage conditions were (kPa O2/kPa CO2/kPa N2) 100/0/0, 80/15/5, 60/0/40, 50/15/35, 20/15/65 and 21/0.03/≅79 as control. Bell peppers freshly-cut in cubes were stored at 5 °C up to 9–10 days. Changes in total counts of mesophilic, psychrotrophic, yeasts and mould as well as Enterobacteriaceae were monitored. Individual and total sugars and organic acids contents, visual appearance, color, shriveling, off-aroma, crunchiness, flavor and overall quality were also evaluated. The results in both experiments showed that 80 or 50 kPa O2 combined with 15 kPa CO2 maintained the main sensory quality attributes and inhibited growth of the spoilage microorganisms and Enterobacteriaceae in minimally processed bell peppers.  相似文献

Establishing the technique for controlling the rate of cut flower opening is important to maintain appropriate cut flower supplies to meet consumer demand. Cut flowers of Eustoma grandiflorum (Raf.) Shinn. were held in a vase solution containing (±)-abscisic acid (ABA), 6-benzylaminopurine (BA), gibberellic acid-3 (GA), methyl jasmonate (MeJA) or 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) at 100 μM. MeJA accelerated flower opening. Only the timing of flowering was earlier, and there was no change in maximum flower diameter at the fully open stage. Expansin and xyloglucan endotransglycosylase/hydrolase (XTH), regarded as cell wall loosing proteins, participate in petal growth from bud stage to the fully open stage in Eustoma. MeJA also accelerated the expression of EgEXPA2, EgEXPA3 and EgXTH1 mRNA and the accumulation of expansin and XTH protein in petals. Meanwhile, the acceleration of both flower opening and expression of these genes was not observed by ABA, BA or GA treatment. It was proposed that early flower opening by JA treatment resulted from petal cell wall loosening by accelerated expression of expansin and XTH.  相似文献

Two plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) cultivars ‘Black Splendor’ (BS) and ‘Royal Rosa’ (RR) were treated with methyl jasmonate (MeJA) at 3 concentrations (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mM) along the on-tree fruit development: 63, 77 and 98 days after full blossom (DAFB). On a weekly basis, fruit samples were taken for measuring fruit size and weight and parameters related to quality. Results revealed that MeJA was effective in increasing fruit size and weight, the 0.5 mM being the most effective for BS cultivar and 2.0 mM for RR. At harvest, those fruit treated with 0.5 mM MeJA had the highest firmness and colour Hue values. Total acidity was also generally higher in MeJA-treated fruit than in controls, while the content of total soluble solids remained unaffected. In addition, total phenolics and total antioxidant activity were found at higher concentrations in 0.5 and 2.0 mM MeJA-treated than in control fruit over at last 3 weeks of fruit development for BS and RR cultivars, respectively. Overall results suggest that MeJA could be a promising preharvest tool to increase plum size and quality with enhanced bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity, although the optimum concentration is cultivar dependent.  相似文献

‘Big Top’ and ‘Venus’ nectarines and ‘Early Rich’ and ‘Sweet Dream’ peaches were picked at commercial maturity and stored for 20 and 40 d at −0.5 °C and 92% RH under either air or one of the three different controlled atmosphere regimes (2 kPa O2/5 kPa CO2, 3 kPa O2/10 kPa CO2 and 6 kPa O2/17 kPa CO2). Physicochemical parameters and volatile compounds emission were instrumentally measured after cold storage plus 0 or 3 d at 20 °C. Eight sensory attributes were assessed after cold storage plus 3 d at 20 °C by a panel of 9 trained judges, in order to determine the relationship between sensory and instrumental parameters and the influence of storage period and cold storage atmosphere composition on this relationship.A principal component analysis (PCA) was undertaken to characterize the samples according to their sensory attributes. PCA results reflected the main characteristics of the cultivars: ‘Big Top’ was the nectarine cultivar with the highest values for sweetness, juiciness and flavor; ‘Sweet Dream’ was the sweetest peach and was characterized by high values for crispness and firmness, while ‘Venus’ and ‘Early Rich’ were characterized by their sourness. To assess the influence of storage period and CA composition on sensory properties, a PLS model of the flavor of the different samples was constructed using standard quality attributes and volatile concentrations as the X-variables. The model with 2 factors accounted for more than 80% of flavor variance. PLS results indicated that the main influence on flavor perception was storage period. Atmosphere composition also had an influence on flavor perception: flavor perception decreased from samples stored in a 2/5 O2/CO2 atmosphere composition to those of 3/10 and 6/17. These results can be qualitatively extended to juiciness and sweetness since all these sensory properties were strongly correlated.  相似文献
