During macroscopic post-mortem examinations of the genital tract in 104 mares endometrial cysts occurred in 14 (13%) cases. Whereas in mares up to the age of 10 years cystic changes were absent, endometrial cysts occurred in 19% of the animals above the age of 10 years. In 6 mares only 1-2 cysts per uterus were found, and in 8 animals there were between 5 and 18 cystic changes per organ. The cysts were equally distributed in the uterus body and horns. Sporadically occurring cysts were about 11 mm in diameter with a decreasing size to a mean value of 5 mm in multiple cysts. Predominantly in the uterus body very large cysts were found. The largest endometrial cyst was of 30 mm in diameter. Classification into lymphatic cysts and glandular cysts was made based on histological examinations.  相似文献

In the mare, natural breeding is associated with bacterial contamination of the reproductive tract. The purpose of this study was to examine postcoital bacterial contamination and the resulting inflammatory response of the uterus. Uterine swabs for bacteriological and cytological examination were obtained from 80 mares. Each mare was sampled once between 4 and 69 hours postbreeding. In mares which did not conceive, sampling was repeated at the following estrus. The findings were compared with those obtained prior to breeding and correlated with the breeding outcome. Bacteria were cultured from 72.5% of the postcoital swabs. There was a wide spectrum of organisms which included species known as potential causes of endometritis. Neutrophilic granulocytes were found in varying concentrations in 48.8% of cases. In 16.3% of mares both bacteriological and cytological examinations were negative. Mares with positive bacteriological and/or cytological results at the postcoital examination had better foaling rates compared to the remaining mares (p less than 0.05). The postcoital findings did not correlate with those of the prebreeding examination, or with the interval between breeding and sampling, or with the different stallions.  相似文献

43 sows selected from registered herds without reproductive problems were slaughtered on fixed days of the sexual cycle. The macroscopic appearance of the endometrium and of the ovaries was judged. Endometrial samples from the corpus uteri as well as from the middle part and apex of uterine horns were then examined histologically (optical microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy) especially concerning the epithelia of surface and glands. The variation of endometrial and ovarian morphology during the sexual cycle is described, presented in a summarizing table, documented by illustration and discussed.  相似文献

108 mares with a total of 135 oestrous cycles were examined. 30% of the mares showed development of double follicles, found by palpation and ultrasonography. Eight cases of double ovulation, four of them synchronous and four asynchronous, were examined closely. These cases of double ovulation showed different growth and different development of the follicular wall. This occurred at the same time in cases of synchronous double ovulation whereas it differed in case of asynchronous double ovulation. The later ovulating follicle was still growing while the first one had already burst. With both forms of double ovulation an equal concentration of progesterone was detected in peripheral blood. On the day of ovulation the rate of progesterone was low (1 ng/ml blood plasma) and it first started rising from the day +1 on. Double follicles matured slower than single follicles. Mares with synchronous double ovulation showed the typical oestrus behavior. This behavior was less distinct after the first ovulation in mares with asynchronous double ovulation. All four mares with asynchronous and two mares with synchronous double ovulation became pregnant. Twins did not occur. A possible relationship between double ovulation and twin pregnancy is discussed.  相似文献

Ovaries of 100 sows with ovarian cysts were collected at the slaughterhouse after normal slaughter. The ovarian function was assessed macroscopically and representative sections of 55 ovaries were examined histologically. The cysts were grouped into the following categories: follicle theca cysts, follicle lutein cysts, lutein cysts, blood cysts and mixed forms with concurrent incidence of the above cyst forms. Only follicle theca cysts, follicle lutein cysts, lutein cysts or blood cysts were found in 24%, 7%, 32% and 10% of animals, respectively. In 27% of animals the above mentioned forms of cysts occurred concurrently. A large number of cysts per animal was found for follicle theca cysts (9.0 cysts per animal) and mixed forms (11.0 cysts per animal). Follicle lutein cysts, lutein cysts and blood cysts were developed in smaller numbers (3.1, 3.9 and 4.8 cysts per animal, respectively). Anestrus occurred only for follicle theca cysts, if their number exceeded 7 cysts per animal (13 per cent of the examined animals). Blood cysts occurred only during the metoestrus and follicle lutein and lutein cysts only during the corpus luteum phase. It is assumed that the cysts regress after the 13th day of the cycle, if normal corpora lutea are present at the same time. Only follicle theca cysts occurring in large numbers persist and block subsequent cyclic activity. There seems to be a particular predisposition for the development of cysts when the ovarian cycle is re-initiated after anestrus.  相似文献

Based on a group of 33 mares infected with mastitis, data regarding the time of appearance, the clinical symptoms and the bacteriological causes of the disease were evaluated. The cases were distributed as follows: 27.3% before delivery, 24.2% immediately after delivery (until the third day), 12.1% during the middle and late stages of lactation, 9.1% immediately after the weaning of the foal and 27.3% outside the lactation period of non-pregnant mares. The clinical picture is described. In the majority of the cases, both halves of the udder were infected. The analysis of the bacteriological results showed that from 70 isolated germ types no less than 36 were streptococci (in 25 cases beta-haemolytic streptococci). Compared to this, E. coli (3 cases), coliform germs (6 cases) and klebsiella (2 cases) were found rather seldom. The additional examination of milk samples taken from healthy mares during the first seven days after delivery showed that 13 (= 41.9%) of the mares, or 21.0% of the milk samples (n = 62), were bacterially contaminated. A study was conducted to compare fatty acid composition, hatching quality, and size of nauplii from four commercial sources of brine shrimp (Artemia spp.) cyse: China (CH), Colombia (COL), Great Salt Lake (GSL), and San Francisco Bay (SFB). The CH brine shrimp had a comparatively high percentage of 20:5(n-3) fatty acid (eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA), an essential fatty acid for most Iarval fishes, which was 10.4% of the total lipids. The COL, GSL, and SFB sources of cysts contained comparatively low percentages of EPA, 2.9, 1.2, and 1.6%. respectively. Hatching quality was determined by hatching cysts in salt (NaCl) water with a specific gravity of 1.02 at 27 C for 42 h. The COL cysts had the fastest hatching rate, with 50% of the cysts hatching in 13.4 h, while CH cysts hatched at the slowest rate, requiring 25.6 h for 50% of the cysts to hatch. Total percentage hatch was not significantly different among the SFB, COL, and GSL sources, with an average hatching percentage of 84.5, while CH cysts had a significantly lower total percentage hatch of 67.5. The SFB source produced the greatest number of nauplii (1.6 ± 105 per g of cysts) with the smallest length (382 μm), while CH produced the smallest number (8.7 ± 104) with the greatest length (500 μm). These results indicate that there is great variation in nutritional quality, hatching quality, and size of nauplii among commercial sources of brine shrimp cysts, and each of these criteria should be considered in selecting brine shrimp in a development of a feeding strategy for larval culture of a particular species.  相似文献

Two types of infection with myxosporean parasites, which were different in cyst size, were found from the gill of Rhinogobius sp. OR collected from the Nagara River, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. A myxosporean forming large-type cysts in the gill filament was morphologically identified as Henneguya rhinogobii. Another myxosporean forming small-type cysts was found to be parasitic in the gill lamella. Average spore sizes of the latter myxosporean were 15.8 (range 14.2–17.8) μm in length, 5.3 (4.7–5.8) μm in width, 6.5 (5.9–7.6) μm in polar capsule length and 34.9 (25.3–42.9) μm in caudal appendage length, which were almost identical to those of H. rhinogobii. However, the two were distinguishable by the location in the gill (intrafilamental or intralamellar) and by the difference in the sequence of SSU rDNA (about 96% similarity). We propose the myxosporean forming intralamellar small-type cysts as Henneguya pseudorhinogobii n. sp. and redescribe H. rhinogobii by morphological and molecular studies.  相似文献

Bullheads, Cottus gobio, with macroscopic external cysts on the skin and fins measuring up to 3 mm in diameter were detected in the River Allen and its tributaries in southern England between 1992 and 1998. The prevalence of these cysts was up to 50% at some sites. Examination of cyst contents revealed the presence of numerous spores, typical of the genus Dermocystidium, measuring 8 microm in diameter. The parasite developed within well-defined cysts, which were located in the hypodermal connective tissues of the host. No cysts were present on the fins of any of the fish examined. Histological examination revealed a cyst wall consisting of an inner layer of dense eosinophilic material similar to that reported for Dermocystidium spp. forming coenocytic hyphae. No evidence was found of systemic infection or hyphal formation. Spores contained a prominent refractile body, which gave a weakly positive reaction for polysaccharides with the periodic-acid Schiff reaction and was positively stained with acidic dyes. Several examples of ruptured cysts were seen in histological sections and in some of these cases the host epithelial layer was breached, allowing release of the spores to the environment. Morphological features of, and host response towards, the Dermocystidium sp. in bullheads are compared with similar infections in salmonids and other freshwater fish species.  相似文献

The aim of the present investigations was to characterize the endocrine changes in the peripheral plasma during the periparturient phase of mares with a known history of obstetrical disorders. Blood plasma samples from 9 mares (8 mares during parturition, 1 mare during abortion) were collected and the following steroid hormones were radioimmunologically determined: progesterone (P4), dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), estrone (E1), estrone sulfate (E1-S), estradiol-17 beta (E2), estriol (E3), cortisol and transcortin. In general, with the exception of cortisol, DHEA and transcortin, all steroid hormone levels declined significantly after parturition. Mean plasma concentrations of DHEA-S, the direct fetal precursor of estrone, were 6 times higher than DHEA. However, DHEA-S levels varied considerably between all mares as well as between daily values of the same mare. Levels of E1-S were found to be about thousand times higher than those of E1, E2, and E3. The rather low concentrations of E3 suggest that this hormone is mainly produced by peripheral conversion and that in the horse fetus the 16 alpha-hydroxylation of DHEA-S is lacking. Despite the fact that most of the examined mares showed signs of severe disease none of the investigated steroid hormones indicated any disturbances of gestation. It is concluded that, from the clinical point of view, serial determinations of E1-S plasma levels are the best way to prove the fetal well-being. However, it should be stressed, that even the E1-S values are no indicators for the onset of parturition or abortion.  相似文献

Three 30‐day experiments were conducted to evaluate decapsulated Artemia cysts with different quality (high or low hatch‐rate) as food for tench (Tinca tinca L.) larvae from the onset of exogenous feeding. In experiment 1, three diets were tested: Artemia nauplii‐only or cysts‐only for 30 days, and nauplii for the first 7 days and cysts thereafter. The cysts used had 86% hatching rate (high hatch‐rate cysts). The same feeding treatments were replicated in experiment 2 but with low hatch‐rate cysts (10% hatching rate). In experiment 3, five diets were tested: high hatch‐rate cysts only or low hatch‐rate cysts only for 30 days, and nauplii for the first 7, 4 or 2 days and low hatch‐rate cysts thereafter. In overall, survival was high, except with the low hatch‐rate cysts only diet. Feeding tench larvae with cysts resulted in higher growth and lower FCR compared to feeding with live nauplii only. High hatch‐rate Artemia cysts are a suitable food from the onset of exogenous feeding and low hatch‐rate cysts can be successfully used after 2–7 days feeding on nauplii.  相似文献

Juvenile rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), were experimentally infected to investigate the pathogenicity of 20 isolates of two morphotypes of long-haired Saprolegnia obtained from wild brown trout, Salmo trutta L., and river water in Spain. The trout were exposed to 2 × 105 and 3 × 105 L–1 zoospores. Saprolegnia infection could not occur without 'ami-momi' treatment. Pathogenicity varied greatly among isolates as mortality ranged from 0 to 100% of the fish. There was a statistically significant difference ( P  < 0.001) between the mortality caused by morphotype I isolates and that produced by those of morphotype II. The most pathogenic isolates usually belonged to morphotype II, consisting of isolates which had secondary cysts with bundles of hooked hairs which were shorter and less numerous than those of morphotype I; the morphotype I isolates usually had low pathogenicity. Lesions were most frequently found on the fins. Cultures detected the presence of Saprolegnia in internal organs. Histopathology of the intestine suggests that Saprolegnia may reach this and other organs via the blood stream from surface lesions.  相似文献

Evaluation of a new‐to‐science Artemia population and comparison with four other existing populations were carried out. Five parthenogenetic Artemia populations from the following Greek saltworks were studied: Alyki (a new population), Kalloni, Milos, Polychnitos and Messolongi. The diameters of non‐decapsulated and decapsulated cysts as well as the lengths of nauplii instar stages I, II and III were measured. In addition, the fatty acid composition of decapsulated cysts was estimated. The cyst size of the Alyki population was the smallest, with the largest chorion found in Greece so far. The Messolongi population had the largest cysts, with the smallest chorion of all five populations. The diameter of the non‐decapsulated cysts was highly related (P<0.01) to the length of the nauplii instar I, II and III. The diameter of decapsulated cysts was found to be the most stable and reliable biometric characteristic. The study of their fatty acids profiles revealed that the Polychnitos and Messolongi populations are suitable as live food for freshwater species, while the Alyki, Milos and Kalloni populations are suitable for marine species, having high levels (8.9%, 11.2% and 12.5% respectively) of eicosapentaenoic acid and detectable amounts (0.3%, 0.1% and 0.2% respectively) of docosahexaenoic acid.  相似文献

The Carpathian brook lamprey (Eudontomyzon danfordi Regan, 1911) is an endemic protected species of Cephalaspidomorphi in the Carpathian Basin. No parasites have become known from these jawless vertebrates to date. Here, the authors describe an infection from a single specimen manifesting in protuberant skin cysts 7–10 mm in diameter, scattered on the body surface. Similar dermal infection was observed in 25 of the 274 lampreys recorded in the population survey. Skin cysts filled with round spore-like structures of a dermocystid parasite were found. These particles measured 8–14 µm in diameter and had an about 0.5 µm thick wall, and containing mainly a granular mass and a relatively scarce plasma. No hyphae were recorded. Despite conspicuous morphological changes in the skin, no inflammatory reactions were found. The molecular analysis of 18S rDNA showed similarity to dermocystid species of several fish species but differed from them approximately by 2%. This is the first record of a dermocystid parasite infecting a jawless vertebrate.  相似文献

A new myxosporean, Myxobolus bulbocordis sp. nov., has been found in the heart of a Mesopotamian fish, Barbus sharpeyi (Günther), in rivers in Southwest Iran. Cysts containing matured spores were located on the serosa of the atrium cordis, bulbus arteriosus, larger gill arteries and inside the wall of the bulbus. The species showed an affinity to connective tissue cells and was never associated with the muscles. Mature cysts were surrounded by a connective tissue capsule composed of two to three layers. Spores in disrupted cysts were infiltrated by epithelioid cells and macrophages. The spores found in Barbus sharpeyi differed in size and morphology from species known from other barbels.  相似文献

Decapsulated Arremia cysts have been evaluated as a direct food source for larvae of the carp Cyprinus carpio L. All decapsulated cyst diets gave excellent survival of carp larvae during the first two weeks of culturing. Unlike traditionally brine-stored decapsulated cysts, dried Artemia embryos provided growth results comparable to those obtained with freshly hatched Artemia nauplii. Furthermore, except for Artemia embryos that lost their hatchability after long-term storage in air, several other inactivation treatments, simulating improper harvesting and processing of cysts, did not produce a significant decrease in the nutritional quality of the decapsulated cysts.
Using decapsulated cysts 89 a direct food source for carp larvae, instead of nauplii, the quantity of cysts needed can be reduced by about 25% to 35% after one and two weeks of culturing, respectively. Moreover, the use of decapsulated cysts advances the possible commercialition of poor-hatching and less expensive cyst products for culture of carp larvae.  相似文献

在NaCl质量浓度73g/L、25℃和光暗比12h∶12h条件下,将20日龄的中华卤虫成熟个体按每杯1雌1雄方式置于盛有约100mL高盐海水的玻璃杯中,用盐生杜氏藻按1.5×10~6、4×10~6、6×10~6、9×10~6个/杯4个投喂量培育30d,记录所产出的休眠卵和无节幼体数量,并测量休眠卵卵径、无节幼体体长和雌性亲体体长。试验结果表明,同时产休眠卵和幼体情形下的卤虫的产仔次数仅占总产仔次数的1.2%~2.9%。1.5×10~6、4×10~6、6×10~6个/杯3个试验组仅产卵的产仔次数占总产仔次数的30.4%~40%,仅产幼体的产仔次数占总产仔次数的57.5%~66.7%,而9×10~6个/杯试验组仅产卵及仅产幼体的百分比分别为61.3%和37.5%。4个试验组的单雌繁殖量分别为88.7、105.9、193、298.7个,单雌繁殖次数分别为2.7、2.9、3.9、4.7次,卵生后代比例分别为32.4%、31.1%、36.9%、66.2%。各试验组干卵径、卵生无节幼体体长和卵胎生无节幼体体长依次为1.5×10~6个/杯试验组<6×10~6个/杯试验组<4×10~6个/杯试验组<9×10~6个/杯试验组,且各试验组之间差异显著(P<0.05)。雌性亲体的最终体长随投喂量增加而显著增加(P<0.05)。研究结果表明,中华卤虫解池种群的雌体在饵料充足时偏卵生,在饵料匮乏时偏卵胎生;卤虫产仔方式受到投喂量的影响,但通过降低投喂量来改变产仔方式的做法在生产上是不经济的。  相似文献
