Hemostatic profiles (prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen concentration, fibrin degradation product concentration, platelet count, and antithrombin III activity) were acquired prospectively in 20 dogs with a diagnosis of gastric dilatation-volvulus. Eighteen dogs had abnormal results of one or more hemostatic test, including eight dogs that had hemostatic profiles consistent with a diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation. During surgery, or at necropsy, the dogs' stomachs were evaluated for gross abnormalities, and lesions were graded subjectively as mild, moderate, or severe. Eight dogs had mild gastric lesions, five had moderate lesions, and seven had severe changes indicating gastric necrosis. Seventy percent (7/10) of the dogs with two to six abnormal hemostatic test results had gastric necrosis, whereas none of the 10 dogs with no or one abnormality had gastric necrosis (p < .001). A multiple linear regression equation, based on fibrin degradation product concentration, activated partial thromboplastin time, and antithrombin III activity was derived to predict gastric necrosis. This equation correctly identified gastric necrosis with 86% sensitivity, 100% specificity, 100% positive predictive value, and 93% negative predictive value.  相似文献

Gastric myoelectric activity was measured after experimental gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), GDV and tube gastrostomy, or tube gastrostomy in 12 dogs. Gastric myoelectric activity was recorded for 1 hour before (hour 0) and at hours 5, 24, 48, 72, and 96 after surgically induced GDV in six dogs. Three dogs with induced GDV and tube gastrostomy, and three dogs with tube gastrostomy only were also studied at hours 120, 144, and 168. The only significant change in the slow wave appearance or frequency from hours 0 to 48 was bradygastria at hour 5 in all three groups. A relative increase in the mean percentages of dysrhythmia from hours 72 to 168 in the dogs with a tube gastrostomy was caused by increases in tachygastria and arrhythmias. Dogs with GDV and tube gastrostomy had the greatest mean percentages of dysrhythmia, which were significantly more than those in dogs with GDV alone at hours 48, 72 and 96. The mean percentage of spike activity was less than or equal to 31 and varied widely. In general, there was less spike activity when the frequency of dysrhythmias was high. Thus, gastric myoelectric activity was disrupted from hours 48 to 168 after GDV with tube gastrostomy and after tube gastrostomy alone. Surgically induced GDV alone did not produce any significant or sustained dysrhythmias.  相似文献

Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) is a disease in which there is gross distension of the stomach with fluid or gas and gastric malpositioning. It causes pathology of multiple organ systems and is rapidly fatal. It is common in large- and giant-breed dogs. The disease appears to have a familial predisposition. Thoracic depth/width ratio also appears to predispose dogs to GDV. Implicated dietary factors include dietary particle size, frequency of feeding, speed of eating, aerophagia and an elevated feed bowl. A fearful temperament and stressful events may also predispose dogs to GDV. Abdominal distension, non-productive retching, restlessness, signs of shock, tachypnoea and dyspnoea are possible clinical signs. Initial treatment includes treatment of shock and gastric decompression. Surgical treatment should be performed promptly. There are no studies comparing the use of different anaesthetic agents in the anaesthetic management of GDV. Pre-medication with an opioid/benzodiazepine combination has been recommended. Induction agents that cause minimal cardiovascular changes such as opioids, neuroactive steroidal agents and etomidate are recommended. Anaesthesia should be maintained with an inhalational agent. Surgical therapy involves decompression, correction of gastric malpositioning, debridement of necrotic tissue, and gastropexy. Options for gastropexy include incisional, tube, circumcostal, belt-loop, incorporating, and laparoscopic gastropexy. Expected mortality with surgical therapy is 15–24%. Prognostic factors include mental status on presentation, presence of gastric necrosis, presence of cardiac arrhythmia and plasma lactate levels. Prophylactic gastropexy should be considered in dogs identified as being at high risk.  相似文献

Background: Gastric neoplasia of horses is incompletely described.
Objective: Provide history, clinical signs, and clinicopathological and pathological findings associated with gastric neoplasia in horses.
Animals: Twenty-four horses with gastric neoplasia.
Methods: Retrospective study. History, clinical signs, and clinicopathological and pathologic findings in horses diagnosed histologically with gastric neoplasia were reviewed.
Results: Horses ranged in age from 9 to 25 years (median 18 years at presentation). There was no apparent breed or sex predisposition. The most common presenting complaints were inappetance (17/24), weight loss (14/24), lethargy (7/24), hypersalivation (7/24), colic (5/24), and fever (5/24). The most consistent clinical signs were tachypnea (10/19), decreased borborygmi (8/19), and low body weight (7/17). Useful diagnostic tests included rectal examination, routine blood analysis, gastroscopy, abdominocentesis, and transabdominal ultrasound examination. Anemia was the most common hematologic abnormality encountered (7/19), and hypercalcemia of malignancy was seen in 4/16 horses. Squamous cell carcinoma was the most common tumor identified (19/24), and was most often (14/19) found as a single ulcerated, necrotic mass in the nonglandular portion of the stomach. Other gastric neoplasms encountered were leiomyoma (n=2), mesothelioma (n=1), adenocarcinoma (n=1), and lymphoma (n=1). Metastatic neoplasia was found in 18/23 horses. The median time from onset of clinical signs to death was 4 weeks, and all horses died or were euthanized because of gastric neoplasia.
Conclusions: Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common primary gastric neoplasia in horses. The survival time after diagnosis of gastric neoplasia in horses is short.  相似文献

Gastric spirillosis in beagles   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12
Light microscopic, ultrastructural, and microbiologic evaluations were performed on stomachs from 30 healthy laboratory-reared Beagles. Spiral-shaped microorganisms were seen in the gastric glands and parietal cell canaliculi of all the dogs. Organisms were most numerous in the cardia and in the region of the fundic-pyloric junction. Lymphoreticular hyperplasia, dilatation of parietal cell canaliculi, and degeneration of individual parietal cells (rarely seen) were the only morphologic alterations seen. Organisms were helical, had tufts of flagella at each end, and were approximately 0.5 X 7.0 micron; some had a distinct axial fibril (indicating two distinct forms of the organism). Attempts to propagate a viable culture of the organism were not successful. The organism most closely resembled those of the genus Spirillum. Because the organism was commonly found in the gastric mucosa of healthy Beagles, it probably should be considered part of the natural gastric flora of dogs.  相似文献

Gastric distention was induced in intact dogs by giving a wide range of volumes (11 to 111 ml/kg) of a liquid test meal resulting in a significant (P less than 0.05) increase in plasma gastrin immunoreactivity at 10 and 25 minutes after distention. There was no significant decrease in gastrin immunoreactivity from 10 to 25 minutes of gastric distention. Pretreatment with atropine abolished the distention-induced gastrin release, indicating that distention-induced gastrin release in the intact dog was partially under cholinergic control. There was no relationship between the distending volume and magnitude of gastrin increase.  相似文献

Gastric motility, secretion and structure were studied in piglets which were weaned at two weeks of age and reared in iron-free cages on a low-iron diet. Piglets which were not given iron parenterally rapidly developed iron deficiency anaemia. Gastric motility was studied fluoroscopically after dosing the piglets with barium sulphate. Gastric secretion was studied in piglets with gastric cannulae after stimulation with betazole hydrochloride. There was no difference between iron-treated and iron-deprived pigs in the motility of the stomach but in iron-deprived animals there was marked impairment of acid and chloride secretion from an early age and histological evidence of atrophic gastritis.  相似文献

Complete gastric emptying time using barium sulfate mixed with commercial canned dog food was measured radiographically in 29 mature mixed breed dogs before and 3 to 4 weeks after Fredet-Ramstedt pyloromyotomy (FRP) (6 dogs), Heineke-Mikulicz pyloroplasty (HMP) (6 dogs), Finney pyloroplasty (FP) (6 dogs), Jaboulay's gastroduodenostomy (JG) (6 dogs), and antral gastrojejunostomy (AG) (5 dogs). The dogs were observed for clinical evidence of side effects. Postoperative endoscopic examination and double contrast gastrography were performed to subjectively evaluate the diameter of the gastrointestinal communication and the amount of enterogastric reflux. Although none of the procedures significantly (p < 0.05) altered gastric emptying time, the overall tendency was toward slowing down gastric emptying time. The severity of gastrointestinal side effects and enterogastric reflux appeared to be related to the size and/or location of the gastrointestinal opening.  相似文献

A mass found in the stomach of a 10-year old cat contained a female worm of the genus Gnathostoma. The mass was described as a muscular pseudogranuloma induced by the worm. Although the worm species could not be ascertained, it was concluded that the cat served as an aberrant host for a Gnathostoma sp that usually infects wild mammals in the area.  相似文献

In the present investigation 42 female ferrets were studied in regard to the influence of canine distemper in this species on gastric acid secretion. A total of fifteen naturally-infected and 27 non-infected ferrets were fasted and pylorus-ligated, and were either injected with corticosterone (10 or 50 mg/kg, s.c. one injection/day for 4 days) suspended in corn oil, injected with corn oil, on non-injected. Prior to autopsy blood samples were acquired for corticosterone analysis, and at autopsy the volume, pH, free and combined acidity of the gastric contents were evaluated.  相似文献
