An assumption in aquaculture of Atlantic salmon is that male and female growth within families is perfectly genetically correlated. That is, families would rank identically if based on male growth only or female growth only. Also, growth in freshwater and sea water is assumed to be highly correlated between males and females within families. However, structural analysis of the DNA of Atlantic salmon has found that the linkage maps of females differ significantly from that of males. Genetic variability for any trait measured on females could be greater or lesser than on males. Thus, male and female growth might be considered as separate traits giving rise to families ranking differently depending on gender. A multiple trait family model for weight and length at 3 years of age in Atlantic salmon according to gender was applied to data on North American Atlantic salmon obtained from the Oak Bay Hatchery in New Brunswick, Canada. Genetic correlations between male and female growth in both freshwater and sea water were estimated by Bayesian methods. The estimates support the possible existence of gender dimorphism in North American Atlantic salmon for growth traits.  相似文献

试验选取10尾贵州都匀养殖场的虹鳟(1562±32)g和10尾市场出售的挪威大西洋鲑(1856±45 g),采集其背部肌肉,分别进行质构特性及营养成分分析。结果表明:质构特性上,虹鳟肌肉的失水率显著低于大西洋鲑(P<0.05),剪切力显著高于大西洋鲑(P<0.05);常规成分中,虹鳟肌肉的粗脂肪含量显著低于大西洋鲑(P<0.05),二者的粗蛋白含量无显著差异(P>0.05);脂肪酸组成上,虹鳟肌肉的n-6多不饱和脂肪酸含量显著低于大西洋鲑(P<0.05),但基于脂肪酸组成获得的饱和度(S/P)、动脉粥样硬化指数(AI)、凝血指数(TI)和降胆固醇/致高血脂比率(HH)等指标无显著性差异(P>0.05);氨基酸组成方面,虹鳟肌肉内的人体必需氨基酸比例显著低于大西洋鲑(P<0.05),鲜味氨基酸含量显著高于大西洋鲑(P<0.05)。结果表明,养殖虹鳟在肉质质构上相比大西洋鲑较“干硬”,且虹鳟肌肉多不饱和脂肪酸和必需氨基酸含量均低于大西洋鲑。  相似文献

Abstract

Laboratory studies were conducted on the susceptibility of different strains of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss to infection with the monogenean Gyrodactylus salaris. This parasite, probably originating from the Baltic Sea region, is known to minimally affect Neva River (Baltic Sea) Atlantic salmon. However, following its introduction into Norway, G. salaris has caused severe mortality and morbidity among Norwegian Atlantic salmon, which are considered a highly susceptible strain. The cohabitation experiment included one stock of rainbow trout and four different strains of Atlantic salmon from the Baltic Sea region (Mörrum River, Sweden), Europe (Skjern River, Denmark; Conon River, Scotland), and North America (Bristol Cove River, Canada). Fish were exposed to a Norwegian strain of G. salaris, and parasite population development and distribution were monitored for 7 weeks. Rainbow trout exhibited low susceptibility to G. salaris infection, whereas Conon River and Skjern River Atlantic salmon were highly susceptible and exhibited high mortality rates. Mörrum River Atlantic salmon exhibited intermediate susceptibility and low mortality. Bristol Cove River Atlantic salmon harbored relatively low parasite numbers, but fish mortality was high. Our experiment showed that the Danish Skjern River strain of Atlantic salmon is highly susceptible to G. salaris infection, further supporting the hypothesis that Atlantic Ocean strains are more susceptible to G. salaris infection than are Baltic strains.  相似文献

Abstract

Spores identified as Myxobolus neurobius were found in head homogenates of both wild young Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus. Formalin-preserved spores from Atlantic salmon measured an average of 12.9 × 9.4 μm and contained two polar capsules that measured 6.4 × 2.9 μm. The spores from the Arctic char appeared morphologically identical by bright-field microscopy to those from the Atlantic salmon except they measured 13.7 × 9.6 μm and had polar capsules that measured 6.9 × 3.4 μm. Myxobolus neurobius has not previously been reported from Atlantic salmon or Arctic char.  相似文献

Diflubenzuron is a potent inhibitor of chitin synthesis, with potential use against salmon lice infestations. The absorption, distribution and elimination of the substance in Atlantic salmon was examined after a single, oral dose of 75 mg/kg bodyweight. The kinetic properties were studied by whole-body autoradiography, liquid scintillation counting and thin layer chromatography, using a 14C-labelled isotope of the substance. The drug was poorly absorbed from the intestine, but reached a concentration of more than 4 micrograms/g in the mucus layer of the skin 2 days after administration. If maintained for several days, this concentration is probably sufficient to control all moulting stages of sea lice in Atlantic salmon. The main route of excretion was via the bile.  相似文献

Atlantic salmon sport fisheries have declined remarkably in many countries and participation seems to correlate with salmon abundance. We investigated angling participation in the Atlantic salmon sport fishery in Norwegian rivers by incorporating facilitators for participation in a constraint–negotiation model. We conducted an Internet survey of Norwegian anglers yielding 3,635 responses (40% response rate). The structural model confirmed our hypotheses and supported the conceptual constraints-effects-mitigation model of leisure constraint negotiation. Of the constraints and facilitators investigated, the structural constraints and facilitators subcategory “quality of fishing” exerted the largest influence on angling participation. The influence of constraints and facilitators was mitigated by use of corresponding negotiation strategies where “skills, knowledge, and money,” and different substitution strategies were important. To increase participation, we suggest increasing salmon abundance, offering longer fishing stretches per angler, and providing better information about where to book salmon angling.  相似文献

Healthy Atlantic salmon and salmon with a history of chronic natural Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. achromogenes infection were compared with respect to total serum protein and the concentration and specificity of serum immunoglobulin. The immunoglobulin level was measured using competitive ELISA and the specific antibody activity against Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. achromogenes was measured using double sandwich ELISA. Significant elevation of serum protein and immunoglobulin concentration was observed in the infected salmon compared with the healthy fish. This was accompanied by weak anti-A. salmonicida activity in the infected fish which seemed to contribute to the raised immunoglobulin level to only a limited degree.  相似文献

Metabolic and residue depletion profiles of albendazole (ABZ) and its major metabolites in three fish species, rainbow trout, tilapia and Atlantic salmon are reported. Based on these profiles, similarities (or dissimilarities) between species will determine the potential to group fish species. ABZ at 10 mg/kg body weight was incorporated into fish food formulated in a gelatin base or in gel capsule and fed as a single dose to six fish from each species. Rainbow trout were held three each in a partitioned 600-L tank. Tilapia and Atlantic salmon were housed in separate 20-L tanks. Samples of muscle with adhering skin were collected at 8, 12, 18, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h postdose from trout kept at 12 degrees C, at 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, and 144 h postdose from tilapia kept at 25 degrees C and at 8, 14, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h postdose from Atlantic salmon kept at 15 degrees C. The samples were homogenized in dry ice and subjected to extraction and cleanup procedures. The final extracts were analyzed for parent drug ABZ and its major metabolites, albendazole sulfoxide (ABZ-SO), albendazole sulfone (ABZ-SO2) and albendazole aminosulfone using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. ABZ was depleted by 24 h in trout and tilapia and by 48 h in salmon; ABZ-SO, a pharmacologically active metabolite, was depleted by 48 h in tilapia, by 72 h in rainbow trout and was present until 96 h in salmon; and low levels of ABZ-SO2 and albendazole aminosulfone, both inactive metabolites, were detectable at least till 96 h in all three fish species.  相似文献

The characterisation of selected immune response genes during amoebic gill disease (AGD) in Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., was performed using semi-quantitative RT-PCR, quantitative real-time RT-PCR (qRT-PCR), and in situ hybridisation (ISH). The immune response genes of interest were interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), serum amyloid A (SAA), and serum amyloid P-like pentraxin (SAP). Atlantic salmon were inoculated with the ectoparasite Neoparamoeba sp., the causative agent of AGD, and gill, liver and anterior kidney tissue sampled at 0, 7 and 14 d post-inoculation (p.i.). Semi-quantitative RT-PCR was performed on the tissue samples to identify up/down-regulated mRNA expression relative to uninfected control fish and normalised to the housekeeping gene, beta-actin. Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) was the only immune response gene of those investigated whose mRNA was differentially regulated in any of the tissues and was found to be up-regulated in the gills by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Increased gill IL-1beta mRNA expression was then accurately quantitated and confirmed using probe-based qRT-PCR. The cellular localisation of the IL-1beta mRNA expression in the gills of uninfected and infected fish was then determined by ISH using an IL-1beta-specific biotinylated cRNA probe. Expression of IL-1beta mRNA was localised to filament and lamellar epithelium pavement cells in gills of uninfected and infected Atlantic salmon. These data implicate the involvement of IL-1beta at the site of infection, the gills, of Atlantic salmon during AGD. This work supports previous studies that suggest IL-1beta is important in the regulation of the fish immune response to parasitic infection but additionally shows the cellular localisation of fish IL-1beta mRNA expression during infection.  相似文献

This study examined the toxicity of bithionol to Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss in fresh- and seawater and the efficacy of bithionol as a 1h seawater bath treatment for amoebic gill disease (AGD). To examine toxicity, fish were bathed for 1, 3 and 6h in bithionol, an anti-protozoal at 0, 1, 5, 10, 25 and 35mgL(-1) with toxicity determined by time to morbidity. Efficacy was examined by bathing AGD-affected Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout for 1h at bithionol concentrations of 1-25mgL(-1). Efficacy was determined by examining gill amoeba counts and identifying percent lesioned gill filaments at 1 and 24h after bath exposure to bithionol. For both species, bithionol was determined to be toxic at 25 and 35mgL(-1) exhibiting median lethal times (LT50s) ranging from 21 to 84min. Morbidity occurred in the 5 and 10mgL(-1) treatments, however, due to sampling regime there were not enough fish available to calculate LT50s. Only bithionol at 1mgL(-1) was considered non-toxic with no signs of morbidity. Bithionol was more toxic in seawater than freshwater and had no acute effects on gill Na+/K+ ATPase and succinic dehydrogenase, or plasma osmolality and chloride concentration. Bithionol at 1mgL(-1) reduced percent lesioned gill filaments in Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout by 33 and 27 per cent, respectively, compared to the seawater control. Similarly, numbers of amoeba were reduced by 33 and 43 per cent for Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout, respectively, when compared to the seawater control. Furthermore, bithionol reduced percent lesioned gill filaments as much as did the current industry standard of freshwater. This study demonstrated that a 1h seawater bath containing 1mgL(-1) bithionol could be an improvement to the current method of treatment for AGD-affected Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout.  相似文献

Mycobacterium chelonae was identified as the cause of incidental mortality in Atlantic salmon smolts following introduction to seacages. Source of infection was not confirmed. Polymerase chain reaction was a useful method of detecting and speciating the genus Mycobacterium in infected stocks. Transmission studies were conducted to determine if Loma salmonae was transmissible in sea water. Transmission of L. salmonae to chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) held in sea water was achieved by exposing fish to macerated, infected gill tissue. Fish were exposed in seawater in a flow-through aquarium, and the infection was detected as soon as 5 wk after exposure. Heavily infected fish exhibited numerous xenomas in the branchial arteries, central venous sinusoids, and within the blood channels of the lamellae. The pathological changes were similar to those seen in pen-reared salmon with L. salmonae infections. The infection was not observed in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), Pacific herring (Clupea pallasi, family Clupeidae), or shiner perch (Cymatogaster aggregata, family Embiotocidae), experimentally exposed using identical methods. This study suggests that L. salmonae is transmissible to chinook salmon in seawater netpens. Fish farmers and fish health specialists should consider this possibility when developing and implementing strategies to control the infection.  相似文献

Three incidents with high mortality in Atlantic salmon after trichlorfon treatment against salmon lice are described. All 3 incidents occurred at water temperatures of 12 degrees C or higher. The mean brain acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity of dead fish was less than 20% of normal activity, while survivors showed mean activities of 22-61% of normal levels. Dichlorvos residues in muscular and liver tissues ranged from nondetectable levels to 0.2 micrograms/g tissue. The strongest inhibition of brain AChE was found in association with the highest dichlorvos residues. Substantial AChE-inhibition was, however, also found in samples in which dichlorvos residues could not be detected. AChE-determination was found to be more reliable than residue analysis for the diagnosis of organophosphate poisoning in salmon.  相似文献

The effect of cross-breeding on survival, growth and maturity when crossing five Norwegian strains of Atlantic salmon has been investigated. A diallel cross including purebred strains and their reciprocal crosses was used. Additive, maternal and heterosis effects were studied. Total heterosis was partitioned into average, general and specific heterosis. Growth of maturing and immature males and females was also considered.Significant total heterosis was found for survival of fry, survival of fish after marking (marked at one year of age), body weight of fingerlings and body weight of adults. However, average heterosis was low for all traits. For survival of eyed-eggs, alevins and fingerlings, dressing percentage and maturity, total heterosis was not significantly different from zero.It is concluded that cross-breeding Norwegian strains of Atlantic salmon seems to have little practical significance in a future breeding program.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector in the world. However, the increased production has been accompanied by the emergence of infectious diseases. Heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) is one example of an emerging disease in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L). Since the first recognition as a disease entity in 1999 it has become a widespread and economically important disease in Norway. The disease was recently found to be associated with infection with a novel reovirus, piscine reovirus (PRV). The load of PRV, examined by RT-qPCR, correlated with severity of HSMI in naturally and experimentally infected salmon. The disease is characterized by epi-, endo- and myocarditis, myocardial necrosis, myositis and necrosis of the red skeletal muscle. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of PRV antigens in heart tissue of Atlantic salmon and monitor the virus distribution in the heart during the disease development. This included target cell specificity, viral load and tissue location during an HSMI outbreak. Rabbit polyclonal antisera were raised against putative PRV capsid proteins μ1C and σ1 and used in immunohistochemical analysis of archived salmon heart tissue from an experimental infection. The results are consistent with the histopathological changes of HSMI and showed a sequential staining pattern with PRV antigens initially present in leukocyte-like cells and subsequently in cardiomyocytes in the heart ventricle. Our results confirm the association between PRV and HSMI, and strengthen the hypothesis of PRV being the causative agent of HSMI. Immunohistochemical detection of PRV antigens will be beneficial for the understanding of the pathogenesis of HSMI as well as for diagnostic purposes.  相似文献
