Black catfish (Rhamdia quelen) is a species of interest for aquaculture in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of feeding R. quelen larvae on either only an artificial diet or in combination with Artemia nauplii (AN) on larval performance and fatty acid composition. For 12 days, larvae were fed from first feeding (3 days after hatching, TL = 5.88 ± 0.23 mm) with artificial food only or a combination of artificial food and AN (co‐feeding). At the end of the trial, total length of co‐fed larvae was significantly higher than that of larvae fed solely artificial food (P < 0.001). No significant differences were found in survival rates. Co‐feeding microdiet with a small amount of AN significantly affected larval fatty acid composition. Lipid and fatty acid composition of food and larvae revealed the importance of n‐3 fatty acids for growth of black catfish larvae and that, as most freshwater fish, R. quelen larvae can elongate and desaturate linolenic acid to n‐3 highly unsaturated fatty acids. Results suggest that R. quelen larvae can be fed from first feeding on microdiets as unique food source, although better larval performances are obtained by co‐feeding with a small amount of AN.  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of carbohydrates with different molecular sizes on growth performance, feed utilization and composition, activity of digestive enzymes, plasma and hepatic metabolites of jundiá (Rhamdia quelen). Triplicate groups of jundiá (4.08 ± 0.005 g) were stocked in 12 tanks with stocking density of 25 individuals per tank and fed for 40 days with four isonitrogenous diets (37%) and isocaloric diets (3,200 kcal/kg) containing fructose (FRU), sucrose (SUC), maltodextrin (MALDEX) or corn starch (CS). The results showed no significant differences for growth variables and digestive enzymes. Fish whose diet received maltodextrin showed higher levels of deposited body fat and hepatosomatic index. Moreover, the above‐mentioned treatment resulted in lower concentrations of glucose and cholesterol in the plasma of jundiá, higher levels of triglycerides, and lower reserves of glucose and liver glycogen. However, fish fed the starch‐based diet presented higher moisture content, crude protein deposition, and body protein retention coefficient. In that same treatment, the jundiá presented higher levels of plasma glucose and liver protein. In conclusion, the efficiency of using digestible carbohydrates in iso‐nutritional diets for jundiá depends on the size of their molecular structure. The corn starch was the best dietary carbohydrate source for jundiá, based on feed utilization and composition and greater synchronicity between energy utilization and protein synthesis.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of different dietary fibre concentrates (DFC: Mucilage = MG; pectin = PN or β‐glucan+mannan = βg+M), on biochemical parameters, stress and immune response and skin mucus of jundiá (Rhamdia quelen). The fish (7.16 ± 0.06 g) were fed with Control diet (0 g/kg of DFC); diet supplemented with 5 g/kg of commercial prebiotic (CP 5) or diets supplemented with 5 or 10 g/kg of MG; PN or βg+M. After 8 weeks of the feeding trials, biochemical parameters (cholesterol, glucose, albumin and total protein), cortisol, immunoglobulin IgM and mucoproteins of skin mucus were assessed. Results demonstrated that supplementation with PN increased cholesterol levels (p<.05). After application of the stressor, most fish, except those in the PN and 10 g/kg MG groups, showed significant increases (p<.05) in cholesterol, glucose and albumin levels. The jundiás showed no difference in cortisol levels after application of the stressor (p>.05). IgM levels were significantly high in fish supplemented with DFC (p<.05). However, the concentration of mucoproteins in skin mucus was not influenced in the different treatments (p>.05). The results showed that supplementation with DFC promoted beneficial effects on the metabolism of jundiá.  相似文献

Jundiá (Rhamdia quelen) is an important species for aquaculture in temperate and subtropical climates. In the present study, the results of different forms of GnRH analogue treatments on ovulation in jundiá have been compared with those from treatment with carp pituitary. Seven out of eight females ovulated in groups treated with carp pituitary (4.0 mg kg?1 BW) and Ovaprim (0.5 mL kg?1 BW). Injection with sGnRHa (10 μg kg?1 BW) combined with metoclopramide (20 mg kg?1 BW) caused a significantly lower rate of ovulation with three out of eight females responding. None of the fish injected with sGnRHa (10 μg kg?1 BW) alone ovulated. Mean PGSI [(weight of stripped egg mass/BW of the female before stripping) × 100] and mean fertilization rate values were high and similar between treatment groups. The obtained results indicate that in jundiá, there is a strong dopamine inhibitory tone on gonadotropin secretion. The gonadotropin releasing activity of sGnRHa can be potentiated by dopamine receptor antagonists and the combined treatment is effective in inducing ovulation. In this regard, domperidone proved to be more potent than metoclopramide.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that the gut microbiota of fish differs depending on host feeding habits and these populations may also be influenced by dietary ingredients. In this study, the bacterial populations of the intestinal tract of the opportunistic omnivore jundiá Rhamdia quelen and the typical omnivore tilapia Oreochromis niloticus were investigated in two experiments. In experiment I, the levels of amylolytic, cellulolytic, lipolytic, proteolytic and total culturable bacteria were compared in the proximal, mid and distal intestine using selective agar. Higher levels of amylolytic, cellulolytic, lipolytic, proteolytic and total culturable bacteria were observed in the tilapia than jundiá, in all intestinal regions. Jundiá contained higher levels of proteolytic bacteria and lipid digesting bacteria in the distal intestinal portion as compared with the mid intestine; both fish species also presented more amylolytic bacteria in the distal intestine. In experiment II, the amylolytic intestinal microbiota between the two species was compared after administration of diets containing different carbohydrate sources. Jundiá fed broken rice presented higher total culturable bacterial levels; however, dietary cassava bagasse and ground corn significantly elevated the population of amylolytic bacteria in tilapia (> 0.05). PCR‐DGGE was also used to assess the bacterial communities in experiment II. A Cetobacterium spp. was detected in jundiá fed diets containing broken rice, and tilapia fed cassava bagasse, dextrin, broken rice and ground corn. Microbial differentiation was further demonstrated between jundiá and tilapia, because an uncultured bacterium was unique in tilapia and an uncultured spirochete was observed only in jundiá; the presence of these bacterial species was also influenced by dietary carbohydrate sources.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the prebiotic effect of different Dietary Fibre Concentrates (DFC) (Mucilage =MG; Pectin = PN or β‐glucan + mannan = βg + M) on growth and somatic parameters, body composition and digestive enzyme activities of jundiá (Rhamdia quelen). After acclimation, fish (7.16 ± 0.06 g) were allocated into 24 tanks (30 fish per tank) and triplicate groups were fed with Control diet (0 g kg?1 of DFC); diet supplemented with 5 g kg?1 commercial prebiotic (CP) or diets supplemented with 5 or 10 g kg?1 diet of MG; PN or βg + M. At the end of the trial (8 weeks), growth was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in fish fed diets supplemented with DFCs and did not differ from animals supplemented with CP. The animals that were fed Control diet presented a body protein content higher compared to those supplemented with diets containing pectin or β‐glucan + mannan (P < 0.05). However, fish fed diets added with β‐glucan + mannan yielded a higher level of protein deposited in the whole body. The activity of digestive enzymes was lower in the group supplemented with Pectin. Results indicate that supplementation with DFCs in the diet had positive effects on the performance of jundiá and are prebiotic potential candidate.  相似文献

The present study aimed to determine the growth and activity of proteolytic digestive enzymes of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) fed by replacing increased fish meal in the diet by either phosphorylated protein concentrate or pumpkin seed meal (PPCPS). Five experimental diets were formulated with levels: 0 (control), 25 (25% pumpkin seed meal (PSM) and 25% PPCPS) and 50% (50% PSM and 50% PPCPS). Crude protein from fish meal was replaced either by PSM or PPCPS crude protein. Each diet was fed to four replicate groups of silver catfish (initial weight 24 ± 0.46 g) to apparent satiation three times a day. Four orthogonal contrasts were applied to the biological assay data. When compared to other diets, the replacement of fish meal by either 25% or 50% of PPCPS in the diet of juvenile catfish does not change growth rates and promotes improvement in feed conversion. The use of PSM as a protein ingredient is not recommended due to its negative influence on fish growth. Thus, it can be concluded that the nutritional value of PSM can be improved by the simple chemical process of phosphorylation, yielding a protein concentrate (PPCPS) that may be used as a promising alternative ingredient.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of increasing inclusion levels (100, 150, 200 and 300 g/kg) of rice bran protein concentrate (RBPC) in jundiá (Rhamdia quelen) diets using growth, body composition, somatic indices and digestive enzyme activity as parameters. Five isoproteic (370.08 ± 0.04 g/kg) and isocaloric (13.38 ± 0.04 MJ/kg) diets were formulated with four replicates per treatment. After acclimation, 500 jundiá juveniles (initial mean weight of 6.28 ± 0.12 g) were distributed into 20 round polyethylene tanks (280 L) (25 fish per tank) coupled to a thermoregulated water recirculating system. The fish were fed experimental diets three times daily (at 9:00, 13:00 and 17:00 hr) to apparent satiation. At the end of the trial (45 days), no significant differences were found in the body chemical composition, somatic indices, and trypsin and chymotrypsin enzymes of the fish fed experimental diets. A lower final weight and a lower condition factor were found in fish fed diets RBPC10 (100 g/kg of RBPC) and RBPC15 (150 g/kg of RBPC). Based on the results of this study, it is clear that the use of RBPC (at high dietary inclusion levels of 200 and 300 g kg?1) is an effective alternative protein source to fishmeal.  相似文献

Three different commercial fish species Odontesthes bonariensis, Rhamdia quelen and Oreochromis niloticus and fish feed were collected from four aquaculture farms. Heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn) and arsenic concentration were determined by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometry (ICP‐OES) in muscle, liver, gonad, skin, scale and fat from fish and in feed diets. Arsenic concentration was found in different tissues differing between species and within O. bonariensis. Cd was differentially accumulated in liver in O. bonariensis and R. quelen; however, in O. niloticus Cd was found in muscle and scales. Higher concentrations of Cr were determined in skin and scales of O. bonariensis and O. niloticus. Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn were found in all tissues being Cu and Fe concentrations higher in liver. Mn was differentially accumulated in O. bonariensis scales, however in R. quelen no significant differences were found and in O. niloticus liver was the main accumulation tissue. Zn concentration was higher in gonad, skin and liver from R. quelen and O. bonariensis, and in O. niloticus the highest concentration was found in scales. All the results were below the international limits for food safety except for the concentration of Cd in muscle and scales of O. niloticus.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determinate the lethal concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) over 96 hours of exposure (LC50–96h) for diploid and triploid jundia Rhamdia quelen juveniles. Diploid and triploid fish weighing approximately 4 g were subjected to DO concentrations varying between 0.4 and 1.3 mg O2 L?1; water temperature was maintained at 27?°C and pH at 6.3. The LC50–96h for diploids of Rhamdia quelen was 0.535 mg O2 L?1, while the value obtained for triploids was 6% greater. These results demonstrated that triploids of Rhamdia quelen juveniles have greater sensitivity to hypoxia compared to diploids.  相似文献

In the metric “Relative Impact Potential” (RIP), the functional response (FR) of a non‐native species can be compared with that of a native analogue and combined with the species abundance to predict its environmental impact. Here, using the River Guaraguaçu (Brazil) as a case study, this methodology was implemented to identify the impacts of the non‐native channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus (Rafinesque) compared with a native species Rhamdia quelen (Quoy & Gaimard) towards small prey fish. Both species exhibited Type II FRs, but handling times were lower for I. punctatus, resulting in a greater maximum feeding rate in this species. Consequently, an RIP > 1 was found, indicating that I. punctatus represents a superior impact to prey compared with its native analogue. These results demonstrate that I. punctatus is a potential threat to small endangered fish species; therefore, policies to avoid escapes from aquaculture should be created and the abundance of I. punctatus controlled.  相似文献

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are widespread used and can interfere on hormone regulation with adverse consequences for both biota and human. Vitellogenin (vtg) is a yolk precursor protein synthesized by the liver in response to estrogen. In order to characterize the vtg of tropical fish Rhamdia quelen and establish a molecular biomarker, adult male individuals were exposed to 17-β-estradiol (E2) for vtg induction and anti-R. quelen vtg polyclonal antibodies production. Vitellogenic female fish were used as positive control group. E2-induced vtg was characterized as a glycolipophosphoprotein of high molecular mass with peptide mass fingerprint very similar in E2-exposed male and vitellogenic female fish. A polyclonal serum containing anti-R. quelen vtg antibodies was produced and showed high specificity and sensibility to detect the vtg of three fish species: R. quelen, Piaractus mesopotamicus and Prochilodus lineatus. Wildlife and laboratory studies reported that EDCs released into the environment may alter the levels of plasma vtg in male fish, making this protein a valuable biomarker of xenoestrogens exposure. Then, we propose the use of anti-R. quelen vtg as a tool for biomonitoring studies and water quality assessment in Brazil and South American countries where the three fish species occur.  相似文献

The cryopreservation promotes cellular damage that could compromise sperm quality in terms of motility and fertility rates, which may be caused by oxidative stress. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the effects of cysteine addition on post‐thaw sperm quality, DNA damage and indices of oxidative stress of the South American silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) sperm, compared with the cryoprotectant solution without cysteine addition. Sperm collected from five males were cryopreserved in cryoprotectant solution (fructose 50 g/L, powdered milk 50 g/L and methanol 100 ml/L) containing different cysteine concentrations (0, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20 mM). After thawing, the following were measured: sperm motility, morphology, sperm viability, DNA damage, lipid peroxidation, concentration of carbonyl and sulfhydryl groups and the activity of SOD, CAT, GST and GPx enzymes. The lowest sperm motility was determined for semen cryopreserved with addition of 20 mM of cysteine. The control group had the lowest DNA damage and lipid peroxidation. The findings of this study show that cysteine addition had no positive effect on evaluated parameters. Therefore, the concentrations tested are not recommended for the supplementation of cryoprotectant solution for semen of R. quelen.  相似文献

This study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the combination of different ratios of soluble and insoluble linseed fibre for silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen). For this, the soluble and insoluble fractions were concentrated separately and combined in four ratios (1:0.5, 1:1, 1:2, 1:4), which were added to silver catfish diets and evaluated in a bioassay. After 45 days of receiving the experimental diets, the animals were submitted to biometry to collect data and tissues. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments and four replications and the means were compared by Tukey's test (p < .05). Diets 1:2 and 1:4 provided higher weight gain, specific growth rate and crude protein deposition to the fish, whereas only the 1:4 diet reflected higher crude body protein. The 1:0.5 diet altered the trypsin activity in the intestine, and, together with the 1:4 diet, it provided a higher intestinal villi height. Body yield, somatic and digestive parameters, chymotrypsin activity and glucose, glycogen and liver protein were not altered, regardless of the experimental diets. In conclusion, the results indicate that linseed fibre acts effectively as a growth promoter in silver catfish diets, with the use of 1:2 and 1:4 ratios optimizing its prebiotic action.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the immunostimulating activity and growth promoting of diets supplemented with different rations of soluble and insoluble linseed fibre to Rhamdia quelen under hypoxia‐induced acute stress. For this reason, soluble and insoluble fractions of linseed fibre were concentrated separately and combined into four ratios (1:0.5; 1:1; 1:2 and 1:4), which were added to the diets of silver catfish (6.43 ± 0.12 g) and evaluated in a biological assay, along with a control diet (without addition of linseed fibre). After being fed the experimental diets for 45 days, specimens of silver catfish were submitted to hypoxia‐induced acute stress. They were kept out of water for 60 s. Immediately afterwards, blood and cutaneous mucus were collected for subsequent determination of immunological indicators and stress. After stress, the fish were weighed and measured for performance parameter calculation. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments and four replications. The data underwent analysis of variance and the means were compared by Tukey's test (p < .05). The fish fed diets containing the 1:2 and 1:4 soluble:insoluble fibre ratios, showed higher total protein content, globulin, plasma alkaline phosphatase activity, and performance in addition to higher mucoprotein content in the cutaneous mucus of the fish. Regardless of their ratio in the diet, linseed fibre provided higher plasma levels of total immunoglobulins and reduction in cortisol levels. The 1:1, 1:2 and 1:4 diets led to higher levels of total immunoglobulins and alkaline phosphatase activity in cutaneous mucus. The results indicate that linseed fibre has a stress‐ reduction, immunostimulant and a growth promoter effect on silver catfish. The 1:2 or 1:4 soluble: insoluble fibre ratios provided greater stimulation of the target immunological indicators and performance.  相似文献

The jundiá (Rhamdia quelen) is a siluriform with great potential for aquaculture in South America. Fish oil is a raw material in diets for fish. However, the fisheries that provide fish oil have reached their limit of sustainability. Thus, the use of alternative sources for this ingredient is primordial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance and body composition of the jundiá fed with different sources of the vegetable oils. Jundiá (1.0±0.2 g) were fed for 31 days with five isonitrogenous (37%) and isoenergetic (19 kJ g?1) diets, in which the following oils were added: 50 g kg?1 corn oil (CO), 50 g kg?1 fish oil (FO), 50 g kg?1 linseed oil (LO), 33.4 g kg?1 fish oil and 16.7 g kg?1 linseed oil (1/3LO), 16.7 g kg?1 fish oil and 33.4 g kg?1 linseed oil (2/3LO). The performance did not show differences between treatments. The final fatty acid profile and n‐3/n‐6 ratio of the fish were highly influenced by the diet. Fish‐fed diets with linseed and/or fish oil showed superior n‐3/n‐6 ratios to the minimal recommended by the World Health Organization; whereas fish fed diets with corn oil showed an inferior value. Albeit in the present study the commercial size of fish was not attained, these results show a clear tendency. The desaturation/elongation capacity was evidenced, in this species, for the first time. Linseed oil can be utilized as a substitute for fish oil in diets of jundiá without affecting their performance and for producing good‐quality fish. However, more studies are necessary to confirm these results for commercial size.  相似文献

The replacement of corn by rice grits, at different levels (with or without phytase supplementation), in diets for silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) juveniles was evaluated. We distributed 360 juveniles in a completely randomized 2 × 5 factorial design (with or without phytase supplementation and rice grit replacement levels of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 g/kg), with three repetitions. Each experimental unit was composed of 12 fish (approximately three months of age and an initial length of 17.60 ± 1.29 cm). At the end of the experiment (50 days), the productive performance (weight gain, feed conversion ratio, survival, specific length, condition factor and specific growth rate), body composition (moisture, ash, lipid and protein), muscle growth and morphometry of the intestinal folds were analysed. There was no interaction (p > .05) between the levels of rice grits and the supplementation or not of phytase for all parameters evaluated. However, regardless of phytase supplementation or not, a linear reduction (p < .05) in the height of intestinal folds was observed as the level of rice grits increased. We can conclude that the replacement of up to 100 g/kg of corn by rice grits can be used in diets for R. quelen regardless of enzyme supplementation.  相似文献

Salt (NaCl) and gypsum (CaSO4) are used as water additives to mitigate fish stress and improve specimen survival. High stocking densities and the transportation of fish can increase aqueous ammonia, which can, in turn, alter fish cortisol secretion. The objectives of this study were to assess the effects of salt, gypsum, and aqueous ammonia on some stress‐induced physiological responses of jundiá, Rhamdia quelen, juveniles induced by captivity and handling, and to determine the lethal ammonia concentration for this species. Jundiá juveniles were subjected to the following five treatments: water only, water + ammonia (0.4 mg/L), water + NH3 + NaCl (6 g/L), water + NH3 + gypsum (150 mg/L), and water + NH3 + NaCl + gypsum. Blood samples were taken after intervals of 1, 5, 24, and 96 h, and the concentrations of cortisol, glucose, chloride, ammonia, and hematocrit were determined. The NH3 LC50 value after 96 h of exposure (LC50?96h) was measured to be 1.9 mg/L NH3. Either salt or gypsum reduced both cortisol and glucose levels during most of the experimental period, but the combination of both reduced these levels even further. The combined use of NaCl and CaSO4 demonstrates a synergic effect on mitigating stress responses induced by handling and aqueous ammonia in jundiá juveniles.  相似文献

This study investigated the composition of milt of the South American silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) or jundiá. The semen was taken from jundiá in different periods during the four seasons. The biochemical composition of seminal fluid and the characteristics of sperm were analyzed. The semen quantity which can be extracted per fish in one day was 0.95 ± 0.08 ml during spring (maximum) and 0.24 ± 0.03 ml during winter (minimum). Sperm density (spermatocrit) showed higher values in the spring (75.1 ± 1.3%) decreasing slightly afterwards and reaching 63.0 ± 2.4% to 65.0 ± 2.2% in the fall and winter. Immediately after water dilution, 90–100% of the spermatozoa presented vigorous straightforward motility that remained for at least 20 s. The total duration of the motility was 47.9 ± 1.3 s in the spring and 38.6 ± 0.6 s in the other seasons (P < 0.05). This pattern of motility is maintained for more than 2 h after storage of the milt at room temperature. The pH from 5 to 10 of the water dilution does not influence the sperm motility. The mean seminal pH and osmolality values were 8.7 ± 0.07 and 274.8 ± 11.2 (mOsm/kg), respectively. The ion concentration was: Na 153.7 ± 2.4, K 10.7 ± 2.4, Cl 139.4 ± 2.1, Ca 4.2 ± 0.2, Mg 0.9 ± 0.05, P 0.9 ± 0.08 (mEq/l). The total protein was 0.6 ± 0.05 mg/dl and cholesterol concentration was 13.9 ± 0.9 mg/dl.  相似文献

The present study was designed to determine the optimal dietary lysine requirement for jundiá, Rhamdia quelen, fingerlings. Groups of 17 fish (1.4 ± 0.1 g) were stocked in 120‐L tanks and were fed semipurified diets (33% crude protein [CP] and 3500 kcal metabolizable energy) containing increasing concentrations of lysine (3.0, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5% CP). After 119 d, fish weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), feed intake and feed conversion (FC), apparent net protein utilization (ANPU), body composition (CP, fat, and ash), and vertebral collagen were determined. WG and SGR increased as dietary lysine concentration in protein increased up to 4.5%, reducing at 6.0 and 6.5% lysine. Fish that were fed the lowest lysine concentration presented the worst feed conversion (FC), which improved for fish fed with 4.5% or more lysine. Feed consumption followed the same trend as FC. The highest ANPU was observed in fish fed with 4.5% lysine. Fish fed diets containing 4.5, 5.0, and 5.5% lysine accumulated more body protein (P < 0.05). Collagen vertebral concentration was significantly higher in fish fed with the 4.5% lysine diet. Dietary requirement for lysine was 4.5 or 5.1% depending on the statistical model used for estimation: broken line or polynomial regression, respectively. The requirements for the other essential amino acids were estimated on the basis of the ideal protein concept and were similar to the requirements for other fish species, except for isoleucine, leucine, treonine, and valine, which were higher for jundiá.  相似文献
