The effects of dietary n‐3 highly unsaturated fatty acids [eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)] with α‐tocopherol on growth, non‐specific immune response and oxidative status were investigated in Caspian brown trout, Salmo trutta caspius, fry. Six experimental diets containing three different dietary levels of n‐3 HUFAs (low: 1 + 0.5% of total fatty acids, DHA+ EPA, medium: 2 + 1%, DHA + EPA, high: 4 + 2%, DHA + EPA) with two different levels of α‐tocopherol (low: 300 and high: 1000 mg kg?1 diet) were prepared and named: LL, LH, ML, MH, HL and HH (HUFA/α‐tocopherol) groups, respectively. Diets were fed to triplicate groups of 60 fry with an initial weight of 600 ± 25 mg for 10 weeks. Results showed that increase in dietary DHA and EPA up to high level improved fry growth in terms of the body weight and specific growth rate, particularly when dietary α‐tocopherol levels were high, suggesting a higher antioxidant protection value when these fatty acids are high. At all dietary n‐3 HUFA levels, increase in α‐tocopherol from low to high level enhanced the alternative complement (ACH50) activity. Fry fed diets medium and high n‐3 HUFA displaying significantly higher lysozyme activity (< 0.05). Moreover, fish fed medium or high levels of n‐3 HUFA had significantly lower prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) than those fed low n‐3 HUFA (< 0.05). Significant differences in antioxidant enzymes (catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S‐transferase, glutathione reductase and superoxide dismutase) activity were also observed between groups, with higher activity in high levels of n‐3 HUFA (< 0.05). Results of this study suggest that the effect of dietary n‐3 HUFA on examined non‐specific immunity parameters are not uniform; however, these impacts are closely related to the α‐tocopherol supplement and their interaction. In conclusion, increased dietary levels of n‐3 HUFA and α‐tocopherol would enhance growth performance and welfare of this species.  相似文献

Although dietary marine phospholipids are able to improve culture performance of marine fish larvae in a further extend than soybean lecithin, both types of phospholipids (PL) markedly increase oxidative risk. The inclusion of a fat‐soluble antioxidant such as the vitamin E α‐tocopherol could allow a better control of oxidative stress. The objective of this study was to determine the combined effect of graded levels of α‐tocopherol with different levels and sources of krill phospholipids (KPL) and soybean lecithin (SBL) on growth, survival, resistance to stress, oxidative status, bone metabolism‐related genes expression and biochemical composition of sea bream larvae. Sea bream larvae were completely weaned at 16 dph and fed for 30 days seven microdiets with three different levels of PL (0, 40 and 80 g kg?1 diet) and two of α‐tocopherol 1500 and 3000 mg kg?1 diet. Sea bream larvae fed diets without PL supplementation showed the lowest survival, growth and stress resistance, whereas increase in PL, particularly KPL, markedly promoted larval survival and growth. However, feeding SBL markedly increased TBARs and GPX gene expression increasing the peroxidation risk in the larvae. Besides, KPL inclusion improved incorporation of n‐3 HUFA and, particularly, EPA into larval tissues, these fatty acids being positively correlated with the expression of BMP‐4, RUNX 2, ALP, OC and OP genes and to bone mineralization for a given larval size class. The increase in dietary α‐tocopherol tends to improve growth in relation to the n‐3 HUFA levels in the diet, denoting the protective role of this vitamin against oxidation. Indeed, dietary α‐tocopherol decreased the oxidative stress in the larvae as denoted by the reduction in larval TBARs contents and gene expression of SOD and CAT, but not GPX. Thus, increase in dietary α‐tocopherol effectively prevented the formation of free radicals from HUFA, particularly EPA, but did not affect the incidence of bone anomalies or the expression of genes related to osteogenetic processes.  相似文献

The impact of dietary α‐tocopherol on juvenile Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis was experimentally evaluated in a 10‐week study. Crab were fed with nine diets including three levels of α‐tocopherol (0, 100 and 300 mg kg?1 diet) and three levels of fish oil oxidation (fresh, moderate and high) in triplicates. Fresh and moderate oil oxidization enhanced weight gain, but moderate and high oil oxidization lowered survival and feed efficiency. The 100‐mg α‐tocopherol kg?1 diet resulted in higher hepatopancreas MDA than other α‐tocopherol diets. High oil oxidization led to the lowest serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPH‐PX). The serum SOD and GPH‐PX activities in crab fed 100 mg α‐tocopherol were higher than in those fed other α‐tocopherol diets. The diet without α‐tocopherol addition lowered lysozyme and phenoloxidase (PO) activities compared to other α‐tocopherol diets. Fresh fish oil diet increased PO activity compared to oxidized oils. High oil oxidization caused significantly more mortality than fresh or moderate oxidization after 7‐d postchallenge with Aeromonas hydrophila. Supplementation with α‐tocopherol significantly enhanced resistance to bacterial infection. This study indicates that α‐tocopherol can protect lipid from peroxidation and enhance disease resistance.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the influence of dietary lipid source and n‐3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 HUFA) level on growth, body composition and blood chemistry of juvenile fat cod. Triplicate groups of fish (13.2 ± 0.54 g) were fed the diets containing different n‐3 HUFA levels (0–30 g kg?1) adjusted by either lauric acid or different proportions of corn oil, linseed oil and squid liver oil at 100 g kg?1 of total lipid level. Survival was not affected by dietary fatty acids composition. Weight gain, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio (PER) of fish fed the diets containing squid liver oil were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those fed the diets containing lauric acid, corn oil or linseed oil as the sole lipid source. Weight gain, feed efficiency and PER of fish increased with increasing dietary n‐3 HUFA level up to 12–16 g kg?1, but the values decreased in fish fed the diet containing 30 g kg?1 n‐3 HUFA. The result of second‐order polynomial regression showed that the maximum weight gain and feed efficiency could be attained at 17 g kg?1 n‐3 HUFA. Plasma protein, glucose and cholesterol contents were not affected by dietary fatty acids composition. However, plasma triglyceride content in fish fed the diet containing lauric acid as the sole lipid source was significantly (P < 0.05) lower than that of fish fed the other diets. Lipid content of fish fed the diets containing each of lauric acid or corn oil was lower than that of fish fed the diets containing linseed oil or squid liver oil only. Fatty acid composition of polar and neutral lipid fractions in the whole body of fat cod fed the diets containing various levels of n‐3 HUFA were reflected by dietary fatty acids compositions. The contents of n‐3 HUFA in polar and neutral lipids of fish increased with an increase in dietary n‐3 HUFA level. These results indicate that dietary n‐3 HUFA are essential and the diet containing 12–17 g kg?1 n‐3 HUFA is optimal for growth and efficient feed utilization of juvenile fat cod, however, excessive n‐3 HUFA supplement may impair the growth of fish.  相似文献

Despite the interest of meagre (Argyrosomus regius) as a fast‐growing candidate for Mediterranean aquaculture diversification, there is a lack of information on nutrition along larval development. Importance of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) and the antioxidant vitamins E and vitamin C has not been investigated yet in this species. Six diets with two levels of HUFA (0.4% and 3% dw), two of vitamin E (1500 and 3000 mg kg?1) and two of vitamin C (1800 and 3600 mg kg?1) were fed to 15 dah meagre larvae. Larval growth in total length and dry body weight was significantly lowest in larvae fed diet 0.4/150/180 and showed few lipid droplets in enterocytes and hepatocytes and lower HUFA contents than the initial larvae. Increase in dietary HUFA up to 3%, significantly improved larval growth and lipid absorption and deposition. Besides, among fish fed 3% HUFA, increase in vitamin E and vitamin C significantly improved body weight, as well as total lipid, 22:6n‐3 and n‐3 fatty acids contents in the larvae. Thus, the results showed that 0.4% dietary HUFA is not enough to cover the essential fatty acid requirements of larval meagre and a high HUFA requirement in weaning diets is foreseen for this species. Besides, the results also pointed out the importance of dietary vitamin E and C to protect these essential fatty acids from oxidation, increase their contents in the larvae and promote growth, suggesting high vitamin E and C requirements in meagre larvae (higher than 1500 and 1800 mg kg?1 for vitamin E and vitamin C respectively).  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of different dietary levels of vitamin C, L‐ascorbyl‐2‐polyphosphate (ASPP), on growth and tissue vitamin C concentrations in juvenile olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus (Temminck et Schlegel). Fish were fed one of six semi‐purified diets containing an equivalent of 0, 25, 50, 75, 150, or 1500 mg ascorbic acid (AA) kg?1 diet (C0, C25, C50, C75, C150 or C1500) in the form of ASPP for 12 weeks. Weight gain (WG) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) of fish fed the C0 diet were significantly lower than those of fish fed the other diets (P < 0.05), and WG and PER of fish fed the C25, C50 and C75 diets were significantly lower than those of fish fed the C1500 diet (P < 0.05). Fish fed the C0 diet exhibited vitamin C deficiency symptoms such as anorexia, scoliosis, cataract, exophthalmia and fin hemorrhage at the end of the 12‐week test. After 12 weeks of the feeding trial, AA concentrations from gill, kidney, and liver of fish fed the C0, C25, C50 and C75 diets were significantly lower than those of fish fed the C150 and C1500 diets (P < 0.05). Based on broken line analyses for WG and PER, the optimum dietary levels of vitamin C were 91 and 93 mg AA kg?1 diet respectively. These findings suggest that the dietary vitamin C requirement could be 93 mg AA kg?1 diet to support reasonable growth, and greater than 150 mg AA kg?1 diet may be required for AA saturation of major tissues for juvenile olive flounder under experimental conditions.  相似文献

A 9‐week feeding trial was conducted to determine the optimal dietary vitamin C requirement and its effects on serum enzymes activities and bacterial resistance in the juvenile yellow drum Nibea albiflora (initial weight 33.2 ± 0.10 g). Six practical diets were formulated containing vitamin C 2.1, 45.3, 89.6, 132.4, 178.6 and 547.1 mg kg?1 diet supplied as l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate. The fish fed 547.1 mg kg?1 diet showed a significantly higher survival than that fed 2.1 mg kg?1 diet. The weight gains and specific growth rate of the fish fed 2.1 mg kg?1 diet were significantly lower than those of the fish fed 89.6–547.1 mg kg?1 diets. The liver vitamin C concentration firstly increased with increasing dietary vitamin C supply from 2.1 to 178.6 mg kg?1 diet and then stabilized. The serum superoxide dismutase activities of the fish fed 547.1 mg kg?1 diet were significantly lower than those of the fish fed 2.1–89.6 mg kg?1 diet. The fish fed 2.1 mg kg?1 diet had a significantly higher alkaline phosphatase activity than those in the other groups except the 45.3 mg kg?1 group. Fish that received diets containing vitamin C at 547.1 mg kg?1 had significantly higher nitro blue tetrazolium and lysozyme activity, and fish that received diets containing vitamin C at 45.3–547.1 mg kg?1 exhibited resistance against Vibrio alginolyticus infection. The dietary vitamin C requirement of the juvenile yellow drum was established based on broken‐line model of weight gain to be 142.2 mg l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate kg?1 diet.  相似文献

Rainbow trout were fed three experimental diets with varying levels of vitamin E (α‐tocopherol) supplementation (0, 100 and 1000 mg kg?1 diet), and the effects of feeding these diets on serum spontaneous haemolytic activity and classical complement activity were investigated. Hepatic α‐tocopherol levels reflected the dietary intake of the vitamin. Fish fed the diet deficient in vitamin E showed reduced growth and increased mortality. Their hepatosomatic index and erythrocyte fragility was significantly higher than both the supplemented groups and haematocrit, and complement activity were all significantly lower. There appeared to be some enhancement of serum complement activity correlated with increased dietary supplementation with vitamin E but the benefits of supplementation at levels above those currently recommended were not established.  相似文献

A 12‐week growth trial was conducted with gibel carp Carassius auratus gibelio (initial weight: 2.69 g) to evaluate the effects of dietary n‐3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 HUFA) on growth performance and tissue fatty acid composition. Five diets of different n‐3 HUFA levels from 0 to 17 g kg?1 diet were supplemented at 80 g kg?1 dietary lipid by including fish oil (FO) at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of supplemental lipid. The remainder was coconut oil. The results showed that fish fed FO25 and FO50 obtained highest specific growth rate and lowest with FO0. Feed efficiency was highest at FO100 and lowest at FO0. Apparent digestibility coefficient of lipid increased with increasing dietary n‐3 HUFA. The fish fed FO0 diet had the lowest thiobarbituric acid reactive substance in serum and muscle and highest moisture and lowest lipid content in viscera. Fatty acid compositions of muscle and liver were correlated with dietary fatty acids. Fish muscle concentration of 20:5n‐3 increased with increasing dietary n‐3 HUFA while the concentration of 22:6n‐3 was distinctly reduced in FO0 group. It suggested that 4 g kg?1 n‐3 HUFA in diet could permit gibel carp normal growth performance and provide considerable n‐3 HUFA in fish muscle. Excessive n‐3 HUFA showed impact on growth performance of gibel carp.  相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to establish the dietary vitamin E requirement of juvenile cobia. The basal diet was supplemented with 10, 20, 30, 40, 60, 120 mg vitamin E kg?1 as all‐rac‐α‐tocopheryl acetate. The results indicated that fish fed the diets supplemented vitamin E had significantly higher specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio, feed efficiency and survival rate than those fed the basal diet. It was further observed that vitamin E concentrations in liver increased significantly when the dietary vitamin E level increased from 13.2 to 124 mg kg?1. Fish fed the basal diet had significantly higher thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances concentrations in liver than those fed the diets supplemented vitamin E. Fish fed the diets supplemented with 45.7 and 61.2 mg kg?1 vitamin E had significantly higher red blood cell and haemoglobin than those fed the basal diet, while fish fed the diets supplemented with 61.2 and 124 mg kg?1 vitamin E had higher immunoglobulin concentration than those fish fed the basal diet. Lysozyme and superoxide dismutase were significantly influenced by the dietary vitamin E level. The dietary vitamin E requirement of juvenile cobia was established based on second‐order polynomial regression of weight gain and lysozyme to be 78 or 111 mg all‐rac‐α‐tocopheryl acetate kg?1 diet, respectively.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary β‐carotene level on the growth and liver vitamin A concentrations in soft‐shelled turtles, Pelodiscus sinensis, fed a vitamin A‐free diet. Soft‐shelled turtles were fed diets containing 0, 14.5, 26.5, 47.5, 87.3, 112.8 and 163.8 mg β‐carotene kg?1 for 10 weeks. Although it was not statistically significant due to high deviation within each group, mean weight gain of soft‐shelled turtles fed the diet without β‐carotene supplementation was the lowest among all test groups. Vitamin A concentrations in liver of turtles significantly (P<0.05) increased when dietary β‐carotene level reached 47.5 mg kg?1 indicating that soft‐shelled turtles were capable of converting β‐carotene to vitamin A. Analysed by regression modelling, dietary β‐carotene levels for optimal growth and maximal liver vitamin A contents of juvenile soft‐shelled turtles fed the vitamin A‐free diets were 49.1 and 88.7 mg kg?1 respectively.  相似文献

The study was conducted to determine the effect of dietary supplementation of vitamin C on anti‐acid stress ability in juvenile soft‐shelled turtle. The soft‐shelled turtles were fed vitamin C supplemented diets at levels of 0, 250, 500, 2500, 5000 and 10 000 mg kg?1 for 4 weeks. The results showed that the phagocytic rate of blood cell in the group fed vitamin C deficient diets, the serum bacteriolytic activity in the two groups fed vitamin C supplemented diet at 0 and 250 mg kg?1 and the serum bactericidal activity in all groups after acid stress significantly decreased compared with those of before stress (P < 0.1). The phagocytic rate of blood cells in the two groups fed vitamin C supplemented diet at 2500 and 5000 mg kg?1 were significantly higher than those of the four groups fed at 0, 250, 500 and 10 000 mg kg?1 (P < 0.01). The serum bacteriolytic activity in the groups fed vitamin C supplemented diet at 500, 2500, 5000 and 10 000 mg kg?1 were significantly higher than that of the group fed vitamin C deficient diets (P < 0.05), and the two groups fed vitamin C at 2500 and 5000 mg kg?1 were significantly higher than those of the groups fed at 250 and 10 000 mg kg?1 (P < 0.05). The serum bactericidal activities in the four groups fed vitamin C supplemented diet at 500, 2500, 5000 and 10 000 mg kg?1 were significantly higher than those of the two groups fed at 0 and 250 mg kg?1 diet (P < 0.01), and the two groups fed vitamin C at 2500 and 5000 mg kg?1 were significantly higher than those of the two groups fed at 500 and 10 000 mg kg?1 (P < 0.1). These results suggest that supplementation of vitamin C higher than 250 mg kg?1 is necessary to reduce the adverse effects of acid stress.  相似文献

Vitamin E supplement is important in protecting lipid oxidation and enhancing immunity of aquatic animals. A 10‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary lipid and vitamin E on juvenile Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis. The experimental diets included three levels of vitamin E (0, 100 and 300 mg kg?1) and two levels of lipid (6% and 9%). The 9% lipid diet significantly enhanced the body lipid of crabs compared with the 6% lipid diet. The vitamin E concentration of hepatopancreas increased with the increase in vitamin E in the diets regardless of dietary lipid levels. The hepatopancreas fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated fatty acid and highly unsaturated fatty acid, were significantly enhanced by vitamin E supplement or 9% dietary lipid. Vitamin E supplement significantly increased the total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, lysozyme and phenoloxidase activities of crabs compared with those fed the diets without vitamin E supplement. The hepatopancreas malondialdehyde of crabs fed 100 mg vitamin E kg?1 was significantly lower than those fed 0 or 300 mg vitamin E kg?1. The phenoloxidase activity of crabs fed the 9% lipid diet was significantly higher than those fed 6% lipid, irrespective of vitamin E levels. Vitamin E supplementation increased the bacterial resistance of juvenile crab. This study indicates that dietary lipid and vitamin E supplement do not affect crab growth and survival, but vitatmin E supplement at 100 mg kg?1 can enhance immunity and antioxidant capacity of crab fed 6% or 9% dietary lipids.  相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate two vitamin C derivatives, L‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate‐Mg (C2MP‐Mg) and L‐ascorbyl‐2‐monophosphate‐Na (C2MP‐Na), to satisfy the vitamin C requirement and to test their effects on the immune responses of juvenile grouper, Epinephelus malabaricus. C2MP‐Mg and C2MP‐Na were each supplemented at 20, 50, 80, 150, 250, and 400 mg kg?1 diet in the basal diet providing of 7, 18, 31, 51, 93, 145 mg ascorbic acid (AA) equivalent of C2MP‐Mg kg?1 diet and 4, 10, 17, 31, 47, 77 mg ascorbic acid (AA) equivalent of C2MP‐Na kg?1 diet, respectively. Basal diet without AA supplementation was included as control. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of grouper (mean initial weight 3.20 ± 0.05 g). Fish fed diets supplemented with either C2MP‐Mg or C2MP‐Na had significantly (P < 0.05) greater weight gain (WG), feed efficiency and survival than those fed the unsupplemented control diet. Liver ascorbate concentrations in fish generally increased as dietary C2MP‐Mg or C2MP‐Na supplementation level increased. Haemolytic complement activity was higher in fish fed diets supplemented with 92 mg AA equivalent of C2MP‐Mg kg?1 or 10–17 mg AA equivalent of C2MP‐Na kg?1 than fish fed the unsupplemented control diet. Lysozyme activity was higher in fish fed ≥51 mg AA equivalent of C2MP‐Mg kg?1 or ≥47 mg AA equivalent of C2MP‐Na kg?1 than fish fed the unsupplemented control diet. Analysis by broken‐line regression of WG indicated that the adequate dietary vitamin C concentration from each vitamin C derivative in growing grouper is 17.9 mg AA equivalent of 2MP‐Mg kg?1 and 8.3 mg AA equivalent of C2MP‐Na kg?1, and it also indicated that C2MP‐Mg is about 46% as effective as C2MP‐Na in meeting the vitamin C requirement of grouper.  相似文献

A 12‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary vitamin C on growth performance, antioxidant status and innate immune responses in juvenile yellow catfish, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. Six isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets (44% crude protein and 7% lipid) were formulated to contain six graded dietary vitamin C (ascorbate‐2‐poly‐ phosphate, ROVIMIX® STAY‐C® 35) levels ranging from 1.9 to 316.0 mg kg?1 diet. The results of present study indicated that fish fed the lowest vitamin C diet had lower weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) than those fed the diets supplemented vitamin C. WG and SGR did significantly increase with dietary vitamin C levels increasing from 1.9 to 156.5 mg kg?1. However, no significant increase was observed with further dietary vitamin C levels increasing from 156.5 to 316 mg kg?1. Survival, protein efficiency ratio and feed efficiency were not significantly affected by the dietary vitamin C levels. The activities of serum superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase significantly increased when dietary vitamin C levels increased from 1.9 to 156.5 mg kg?1, fish fed the lowest vitamin C diet had higher serum malondialdehyde content than those fed the diets supplemented with vitamin C. Fish fed the diet containing 156.5 mg kg?1 vitamin C had the highest lysozyme, total complement activity, phagocytosis index and respiratory burst of head kidney among all treatments. The challenge test with Aeromonas hydrophila indicated that lower cumulative survival was observed in fish fed the lowest vitamin C diet. Analysis by broken‐line regression of SGR and lysozyme activity indicated that the dietary vitamin C requirement of juvenile yellow catfish was estimated to be 114.5 and 102.5 mg kg?1 diet, respectively.  相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to determine two vitamin C derivatives, l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐sulphate (C2S) and l ‐ascorbyl‐2‐polyphosphate (C2PP), to satisfy vitamin C requirement and to test their effects on the non‐specific humoral immune responses of juvenile grouper, Epinephelus malabaricus. C2S and C2PP were each supplemented at 20, 50, 80, 150, 250 and 400 mg kg?1 diet in the semi‐purified basal diet providing of 7, 16, 28, 55, 86, 142 mg ascorbic acid (AA) equivalent of C2S kg?1 diet and 4, 9, 15, 31, 49, 75 mg AA equivalent of C2PP kg?1 diet, respectively. Basal diet without AA supplemented was included as a control. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of grouper (mean initial weight: 6.69 ± 0.07 g). Fish fed diets with ≥28 mg AA equivalent of C2S or ≥4 mg AA equivalent of C2PP kg?1 had significantly (P < 0.05) greater weight gain (WG) than fish fed the unsupplemented control diet. Liver AA concentrations were higher in fish fed diets with ≥16 mg AA equivalent of C2S or ≥9 mg AA equivalent of C2PP kg?1 than fish fed the control diet. Alternative pathway of complement activation (ACP) was higher in fish fed diets with ≥55 mg AA equivalent of C2S or ≥15 mg AA equivalent of C2PP kg?1 than fish fed the control diet. Lysozyme activity was higher in fish fed ≥86 mg AA equivalent of C2S or ≥15 mg AA equivalent of C2PP kg?1 than fish fed the control diet. Analysis by broken‐line regression of WG indicated that the adequate dietary vitamin C concentration from each vitamin C derivative in growing grouper is 46.2 mg AA equivalent of C2S kg?1 diet and 17.8 mg AA equivalent of C2PP kg?1 diet, and it also indicated that C2S is approximately 39% as effective as C2PP in meeting the vitamin C requirement for grouper. The data suggest that both C2S and C2PP supplementation support non‐specific immune responses of grouper.  相似文献

Despite carotenoids and essential fatty acids seem to play important roles in fish reproduction, no studies have yet been conducted to determine the effect of dietary carotenoids on gilthead seabream broodstock performance and their relation as antioxidants with dietary n‐3 highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) levels. In addition, the high cost of synthetic sources of carotenoids is leading to the search for new natural carotenoid sources such as paprika oleoresin. Four experimental diets containing two combined levels of carotenoids from paprika oleoresin (40 and 60 mg kg?1) and n‐3 HUFA (25 and 40 g kg?1) were respectively fed to triplicate groups of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) broodfish. Elevation of n‐3 HUFA dietary levels from 25 to 40 g kg?1 significantly improved gilthead seabream broodstock performance in terms of egg viability, hatching rates and fecundity. Besides, it markedly increased egg contents in HUFAs which play important energetic and structural roles and improve embryo development. Both arachidonic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n‐3) egg contents were more readily affected by dietary n‐3 HUFA than docosahexaenoic acid. HUFA levels did not caused any negative effect suggesting an optimized content of antioxidants in broodstock diets. Increase in dietary carotenoids from 40 to 60 mg kg?1 increased carotenoid contents in eggs and significantly improved egg fertilization rates suggesting an important sperm cell’s protective role by reducing the risk of lipid peroxidation which is detrimental for sperm motility. The increased inclusion of dietary paprika oleoresin enhanced egg carotenoid deposition and improved fish reproductive performance, denoting the high nutritional value of this product as a source of carotenoids for broodstock of this species.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the dietary α‐tocopherol (vitamin E) requirement in juvenile sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus. Sea cucumbers averaging 1.48 ± 0.07 g (mean ± SD) were randomly distributed into 18 rectangular plastic tanks of 20 L capacity in a recirculating system (20 animals per tank). Six semi‐purified experimental diets with average protein and crude lipid levels (dry matter) of 29.7 ± 0.36% and 4.39 ± 0.23% (mean ± SD), respectively were formulated to contain 0 (E4), 15 (E12), 30 (E23), 60 (E44), 120 (E77) and 600 (E378) mg α‐tocopherol/kg diet, supplied as dl‐α‐tocopheryl acetate. Diets were analyzed for α‐tocopherol content by HPLC and the α‐tocopherol levels were 4.01, 12.4, 23.1, 44.3, 77.4 and 378 mg α‐tocopherol/kg diet for E4, E12, E23, E44, E77 and E378 diets, respectively. Casein and defatted fish meal were used as the protein sources in the diets while wheat flour was the carbohydrate source. Sea cucumbers were fed each of the six experimental diets in triplicate groups. At the end of the 14‐week feeding trial, weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR) and feed efficiency (FE) of sea cucumbers fed on E23, E44, E77 and E378 diets were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those of animals fed on E4 and E12 diets. However, there were no significant differences in WG, SGR and FE among sea cucumbers fed on E23, E44, E77 and E378 diets or among those fed on E4 and E12 diets. Survival of sea cucumbers fed on E44, E77 and E378 diets were significantly higher than those of animals fed on E4, E12 and E23 diets. However, there were no significant differences among sea cucumbers fed on E4, E12 and E23 diets or among those fed on E44 and E77 diets. Whole‐body vitamin E concentration increased with α‐tocopherol content of the diets. Broken line analysis of WG showed an optimum dietary α‐tocopherol requirement of 41 mg α‐tocopherol/kg diet in sea cucumber. These results indicated that the optimum dietary α‐tocopherol requirement in sea cucumber in the form of dl‐α‐tocopheryl acetate could be higher than 23.1 mg α‐tocopherol/kg diet but lower than 44 mg α‐tocopherol/kg diet.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of dietary vitamin E supplementation on growth, liver lipid peroxidation and liver and muscle vitamin E level of soft‐shelled turtle, Pelodiscus sinensis. Eight experimental diets analysed to contain 0–457 IU vitamin E kg?1 were fed to juvenile soft‐shelled turtle of 4.8 g initial body weight for 12 weeks. Weight gain (WG) of the turtles fed the diet containing no vitamin E was significantly lower than those fed diets containing 83–457 IU vitamin E kg?1 (P<0.05). Feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio showed similar trends to that of WG. No significant difference (P>0.05) was found in whole‐body composition among turtles fed the different diets. Dietary vitamin E requirement using WG as the response and estimated using the broken‐line regression model is approximately 88 IU kg?1. Liver and muscle vitamin E content increased when dietary vitamin E level increased. Ascorbate‐induced lipid peroxidation in liver tissue of turtles fed diets containing 0 and 17 IU vitamin E kg?1 was significantly (P<0.05) greater than those fed diets containing high vitamin E (≥35 IU kg?1).  相似文献

Triplicate groups of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.), of initial weight 90 g, were fed four practical‐type diets in which the added oil was 1000 g kg?1 fish oil (FO) (control diet), 600 g kg?1 rapeseed oil (RO) and 400 g kg?1 FO, 600 g kg?1 linseed oil (LO) and 400 g kg?1 FO, and 600 g kg?1 olive oil (OO) and 400 g kg?1 FO for 34 weeks. After sampling, the remaining fish were switched to the 1000 g kg?1 FO diet for a further 14 weeks. Fatty acid composition of flesh total lipid was influenced by dietary fatty acid input but specific fatty acids were selectively retained or utilized. There was selective deposition and retention of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6n‐3). Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5n‐3) and DHA were significantly reduced and linolenic (LNA; 18:3n‐3), linoleic (LA; 18:2n‐6) and oleic (OA; 18:1n‐9) acids significantly increased in flesh lipids following the inclusion of 600 g kg?1 RO, LO and OO in the diets. No significant differences were found among different treatments on plasma concentrations of prostaglandin E2 and prostaglandin F2α. Evaluation of non‐specific immune function, showed that the number of circulating leucocytes was significantly affected (P < 0.001), as was macrophage respiratory burst activity (P < 0.006) in fish fed vegetable oil diets. Accumulation of large amounts of lipid droplets were observed within the hepatocytes in relation to decreased levels of dietary n‐3 HUFA, although no signs of cellular necrosis was evident. After feeding a FO finishing diet for 14 weeks, DHA and total n‐3 HUFA levels were restored to values in control fish although EPA remained 18% higher in control than in the other treatments. This study suggests that vegetable oils such as RO, LO and OO can potentially be used as partial substitutes for dietary FO in European sea bass culture, during the grow out phase, without compromising growth rates but may alter some immune parameters.  相似文献
