Early successional forest habitats that develop after wildfire may provide ideal conditions for population build-ups and subsequent fluctuations by Microtus voles. Regeneration of burned-over forest land may be hindered by consumption of planted trees by voles. A high abundance of voles, occurring in the second growing season after a wildfire, may result in serious feeding damage to seedlings leading to major plantation failures. A wildfire occurred near Golden, British Columbia, Canada in the spring of 2011 and may have initiated the successional conditions to generate a vole population outbreak with consequent feeding damage to tree seedlings. We tested the hypotheses (H) that (H1) abundance of herbaceous plants (grasses and forbs) will be greater, and (H2) abundance of voles and incidence of feeding damage to tree seedlings will be higher, in burned than unburned (control) sites. Microtus voles and other forest-floor small mammals were live-trapped for four years (2011–2014) in replicated sites of a wildfire (burned plantation), control (unburned) plantation, and a new control clearcut. Abundance of total herbs and grasses, incidence of feeding damage, and mortality to tree seedlings by voles were measured in all sites. Mean abundance of total herbs and grasses were similar among treatments during the post-wildfire period. Mean annual peak numbers of Microtus in clearcut sites ranged from 18 to 30 per index-line. Annual peak numbers in the burned and control plantation sites ranged from 5 to 8 voles per index-line and were essentially stable at these numbers. Vole populations in the control and burned plantation sites were dominated by the meadow vole (Microtus pennsylvanicus Ord), and those in the clearcut sites by the long-tailed vole (Microtus longicaudus Merriam). Mean mortality of trees was significantly higher in the control clearcut sites at 30% compared with 13% in the burned plantation sites. These results did not support either H1 or H2. Wildfire, at least in this case, did not generate high populations of voles and significant damage to tree seedlings. Mean abundance of total small mammals was similar in burned and control plantation sites, but less than in clearcut sites. Populations of the deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus Wagner) increased after wildfire and those of the southern red-backed vole (Myodes gapperi Vigors) declined. Populations of the northwestern chipmunk (Neotamias amoenus J.A. Allen) and Sorex spp. did not show a clear preference for any of the treatments. Disturbance by clearcutting or wildfire seemed to reduce species richness and diversity, but all eight species of small mammals were present in each of the treatments.  相似文献

Relatively homogeneous early successional habitats develop after clearcutting and wildfire that voles of the genera Microtus and Myodes may colonize and generate population fluctuations. In these habitats, vole populations may reach pest status by their feeding on newly planted tree seedlings. Strategic management of excess woody debris into piles and windrows helps diversify new clearcuts by enhancing populations of forest-floor small mammals, including voles, and some of their predators.This study tested the hypotheses (H) that (H1) abundance of voles and incidence of feeding damage to tree seedlings will be higher in windrow than dispersed (conventional) sites of woody debris, and (H2) there will be a gradient of damage with the highest incidence immediately adjacent to windrows. A third hypothesis (H3) predicts that feeding damage to trees will increase in relation to windrow size. Microtus voles and red-backed voles (Myodes gapperi) were live-trapped for three years (2010–2012) in replicated sites with woody debris dispersed and in windrows at three study areas in the southern interior of British Columbia, Canada. Incidence of feeding damage and mortality to tree seedlings by voles was measured in all sites. Mean abundance of M. gapperi, Microtus, and total voles were all significantly (P ≤ 0.04) higher (up to 3.4 times) in windrow than dispersed sites, and hence the abundance part of H1 was supported. Mean annual percentage of trees damaged by voles was significantly (P ≤ 0.03) higher in windrow than dispersed sites over the two winters and for cumulative incidence of damage, and hence the tree damage part of H1 was supported. Mortality of trees followed this pattern but was not formally significant. Trees planted immediately adjacent to a windrow had significantly (P < 0.01) greater feeding damage than seedlings planted further away, and hence H2 was supported. There were significant linear relationships between mean percentage of trees killed (r = 0.67; P < 0.01) and mean number of total voles, and also with mean volume of woody debris per meter length of windrow (r = 0.98; P < 0.01). Thus, H3 was also supported. To minimize overall mortality of trees, it is likely worthwhile to not plant trees near windrows. Slightly reduced stocking (<5% net forest area) and potential loss of some trees to voles need to be balanced alongside biodiversity and conservation considerations provided by woody debris structures.  相似文献

The Asiatic oak weevil, Cyrtepistomus castaneus Roelofs (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a nonnative defoliator of trees in the Fagaceae family in the United States but has not been studied on Castanea species in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Planted trees of Castanea dentata (Marsh.) Borkh. (Fagales: Fagaceae), Castanea mollissima Blume (Fagales: Fagaceae), and four hybrid breeding generations were evaluated in 2012 for insect defoliation and C. castaneus abundance and frequency. Defoliation was visually assessed throughout the growing season at two sites in the southern Appalachian Mountains (western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee). C. castaneus abundance and frequency were monitored on trees using beat sheets and emergence was recorded from ground traps. Asiatic oak weevils were more abundant and more frequently collected on American chestnut (Ca. dentata) and its most closely related BC3F3 hybrid generation than on the Asian species Ca. mollissima. In most months, C. castaneus colonization of hybrid generations was not significantly different than colonization of parental species. Frequency data for C. castaneus suggested that adults were distributed relatively evenly throughout the study sites rather than in dense clusters. Emergence of C. castaneus was significantly higher under a canopy dominated by Quercus species than under non-Quercus species or open sky. C. castaneus emergence began in May and peaked in late June and early July. These results may be useful for resource managers trying to restore blight-resistant chestnut to the Southern Appalachians while minimizing herbivory by insect pests.  相似文献

Codium fragile and Chondrus crispus are, respectively, green and red seaweeds which are abundant along the North Atlantic coasts. We investigated the chemical composition and antiviral activity of enzymatic extracts of C. fragile (CF) and C. crispus (CC). On a dry weight basis, CF consisted of 11% protein, 31% neutral sugars, 0.8% sulfate, 0.6% uronic acids, and 49% ash, while CC contained 27% protein, 28% neutral sugars, 17% sulfate, 1.8% uronic acids, and 25% ash. Enzyme-assisted hydrolysis improved the extraction efficiency of bioactive materials. Commercial proteases and carbohydrases significantly improved (p ≤ 0.001) biomass yield (40%–70% dry matter) as compared to aqueous extraction (20%–25% dry matter). Moreover, enzymatic hydrolysis enhanced the recovery of protein, neutral sugars, uronic acids, and sulfates. The enzymatic hydrolysates exhibited significant activity against Herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) with EC50 of 77.6–126.8 μg/mL for CC and 36.5–41.3 μg/mL for CF, at a multiplicity of infection (MOI) of 0.001 ID50/cells without cytotoxity (1–200 μg/mL). The extracts obtained from proteases (P1) and carbohydrases (C3) were also effective at higher virus MOI of 0.01 ID50/cells without cytotoxity. Taken together, these results indicate the potential application of enzymatic hydrolysates of C. fragile and C. crispus in functional food and antiviral drug discovery.  相似文献

A new alkaloid, 2-(furan-2-yl)-6-(2S,3S,4-trihydroxybutyl)pyrazine (1), along with 12 known compounds, 2-(furan-2-yl)-5-(2S,3S,4-trihydroxybutyl)pyrazine (2), (S)-4-isobutyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]oxazine-6-carbaldehyde (3), (S)-4-isopropyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]oxazine-6-carbaldehyde (4), (4S)-4-(2-methylbutyl)-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]oxazine-6-carbaldehyde (5), (S)-4-benzyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]oxazine-6-carbaldehyde (6), flazin (7), perlolyrine (8), 1-hydroxy-β-carboline (9), lumichrome (10), 1H-indole-3-carboxaldehyde (11), 2-hydroxy-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone (12), and 5-(methoxymethyl)-1H-pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde (13), were isolated and identified from the fermentation broth of an endophytic actinomycetes, Jishengella endophytica 161111. The new structure 1 and the absolute configurations of 2–6 were determined by spectroscopic methods, J-based configuration analysis (JBCA) method, lactone sector rule, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Compounds 8–11 were active against the influenza A virus subtype H1N1 with IC50 and selectivity index (SI) values of 38.3(±1.2)/25.0(±3.6)/39.7(±5.6)/45.9(±2.1) μg/mL and 3.0/16.1/3.1/11.4, respectively. The IC50 and SI values of positive control, ribavirin, were 23.1(±1.7) μg/mL and 32.2, respectively. The results showed that compound 9 could be a promising new hit for anti-H1N1 drugs. The absolute configurations of 2–5, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data and the specific rotations of 3–6 were also reported here for the first time.  相似文献

Effect of N supply on stalk quality in maize hybrids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The identification of maize nitrogen (N) response for stalk quality is valuable in stalk breeding improvement, stalk lodging resistance and for use in bioenergy. This study analyzed the effect of two N levels and estimated quantitative genetic parameters for stalk quality in summer maize in the north China plain (NCP). Thirty hybrids were sampled and tested from three to four geographic locations under high nitrogen (HN) (225 kg N ha−1) and low nitrogen (LN) (0 kg N ha−1) during 2006–2008. Compared to HN level, stalk crude protein (CP) was significantly reduced (22.06%) under LN level. Ether extract (EE), ash content (AC), in vitro dry matter digestion (IVDMD) and lignin content (LC) were lower under LN level. Cellulose content (CC), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) were increased with a reduction in N, however N did not significantly affect EE, ADF and LC. An increase in NDF and ADF content under low vs. high N level was mainly attributed to a reduction in CC. ADF and NDF exhibited positive correlation and both showed a positive correlation with CC but a negative correlation with LC, IVDMD and CP. Negative correlations between IVDMD and CC, IVDMD and LC, and CP and CC were also detected. The interaction variance of genotype × year × location (σ2GYL) for each N level, with the exception of σ2GYL for CC under HN, was significant and most stalk quality traits were evaluated in different locations and years. The estimates of genetic variance (σ2G) and heritability (h2) were greater under HN, with the exception of LC and EE. The interaction of genotype × nitrogen (σ2GN) for CP was more important than σ2G. The genotypic correlation coefficients (rG) for performance in different stalk quality traits between HN and LN were significant. However, it was necessary to evaluate both HN and LN for IVDMD. For other stalk quality traits, breeding maize under HN levels may serve to develop hybrids well adapted to high and/or low N level. The response to N trend was similar between high oil and normal maize hybrids.  相似文献

Miscanthus × giganteus bark was subjected to mild fractionation with peroxyformic acid by a two stage process. A factorial experimental design was used to study and quantify the effect of the variables (formic acid concentration (80-90%), hydrogen peroxide concentration (0.2-0.4%), temperature of the first stage (60-80 °C), and treatment time of the second stage (60-120 min)) on the main parameters of fractionation: pulp yield, remaining lignin and total polysaccharides in pulp. The dependence of lignin precipitation rate on hydrogen peroxide concentration in liquor was also studied. Hydrogen peroxide concentrations inferior to 0.5% seems to be suitable to recover high percentages of lignin. The isolated lignin was analysed by 2D-HSQC, 13C- and 31P NMR spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, size-exclusion chromatography and chemical analysis. The most important chemical modifications taken place in the lignin during the fractionation were identified: β-O-4′ cleavage and hydrolysis of LC-bond structures. The C9-formula was also determined: C9H6.81O2.90(OCH3)0.68(COOH)0.07(OHPh)0.38(OHAl)0.33.  相似文献

This study compared stress-induced expression of Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) genes in the European honeybee Apis mellifera L. and Asian honeybee Apis cerana F. Expression of both SOD1 and TrxR rapidly increased up to 5 h after exposure to cold (4°C) or heat (37°C) treatment and then gradually decreased, with a stronger effect induced by cold stress in A. mellifera compared with A. cerana. Injection of stress-inducing substances (methyl viologen, [MV] and H2O2) also increased SOD1 and TrxR expression in both A. mellifera and A. cerana, and this effect was more pronounced with MV than H2O2. Additionally, we heterologously expressed the A. mellifera and A. cerana SOD1 and TrxR proteins in an Escherichia coli expression system, and detection by SDS-PAGE, confirmed by Western blotting using anti-His tag antibodies, revealed bands at 16 and 60 kDa, respectively. Our results show that the expression patterns of SOD1 and TrxR differ between A. mellifera and A. cerana under conditions of low or high temperature as well as oxidative stress.  相似文献

Moringa oleifera Lam. is a member of Moringaceae family which grows throughout most of the tropics, and is native to sub-Himalayan tracts of north west India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Moringa seed concentrates 35-45% oil which is considered a great natural cosmetic emollient almost total natural absence of color and odor, and high oleic acid concentration (>73%). To assess their production potential in the Arid Chaco, The Yungas Tropical Forest, Tropical Lowland Forest, and in the Sub-Humid Chaco Ecosystems of South America, a comparative trial was undertaken to determine their seed yield and oil content. Arid Chaco Ecosystem: significant (P < 0.05) difference in seed yields among years were found, with 176.17 and 481.25 kg/tree recorded for 1- and 2-year-old trees, respectively. Sub-Humid Chaco Ecosystems: the difference in seed yield and oil percentage between years was significant (P < 0.05). Comparison between years showed significantly (P < 0.05) higher seed yields, and significantly (P < 0.05) lower oil percentage for the two years old trees, than for the one year old trees. The oil/tree content was significantly (P < 0.05) higher for two years old trees than for one-year-old trees. Yungas Tropical Forest Ecosystem: seed oil percentage was significant (P < 0.05) higher in one-year-old trees than in seeds of two years old trees. Overall: over the tree years, oil percentage was significantly (P < 0.05) higher for seeds produced at the Arid Chaco than at the Sub-Humid Chaco. The seed/tree yields and the oil/tree content were no significantly (P < 0.05) different among the three ecosystems. However, when oil percentage per tree and seed yield/tree were combined trees from Sub-Humid Chaco and from Yungas Tropical Forest yielded significantly (P < 0.05) higher oil content compared to that from Arid Chaco trees.  相似文献

Antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral effects of aqueous and methanol extracts of Lactuca sativa var longifolia leaves were investigated. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH assay. The effect of the extracts against 5 Gram-positive and 6 Gram-negative bacteria was tested. The antiviral activity was determined against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) strain AD-169 (ATCC Ref. VR 538) and coxsackie B virus type 3 (CoxB-3) using a cytopathic effect (CPE) reduction assay. The methanol extract had the highest total phenolic contents (235.31 mg CE/g extract). It exhibited a significantly (p < 0.05) greater hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity (IC50 = 3.5 μg/ml) than the aqueous extract (4.1 μg/ml). It was also the most effective extract with the lowest MIC (2.5 mg/ml) against all Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. Methanol and aqueous extracts exhibited antiviral activity against HCMV and Cox-B3 viruses with IC50 of 200 μg/ml.  相似文献

Five new diketopiperazine derivatives, (3Z,6E)-1-N-methyl-3-benzylidene-6-(2S-methyl-3-hydroxypropylidene)piperazine-2,5-dione (1), (3Z,6E)-1-N-methyl-3-benzylidene-6-(2R-methyl-3-hydroxypropylidene)piperazine-2,5-dione (2), (3Z,6Z)-3-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)-6-isobutylidenepiperazine-2,5-dione (3), (3Z,6Z)-3-((1H-imidazol-5-yl)-methylene)-6-isobutylidenepiperazine-2,5-dione (4), and (3Z,6S)-3-benzylidene-6-(2S-but-2-yl)piperazine-2,5-dione (5), were isolated from the marine-derived actinomycete Streptomyces sp. FXJ7.328. The structures of 1–5 were determined by spectroscopic analysis, CD exciton chirality, the modified Mosher’s, Marfey’s and the C3 Marfey’s methods. Compound 3 showed modest antivirus activity against influenza A (H1N1) virus with an IC50 value of 41.5 ± 4.5 μM. In addition, compound 6 and 7 displayed potent anti-H1N1 activity with IC50 value of 28.9 ± 2.2 and 6.8 ± 1.5 μM, respectively. Due to the lack of corresponding data in the literature, the 13C NMR data of (3Z,6S)-3-benzylidene-6-isobutylpiperazine-2,5-dione (6) were also reported here for the first time.  相似文献

Pseudopterosins and pseudopteroxazole are intriguing marine natural products that possess notable antimicrobial activity with a commensurate lack of cytotoxicity. New semi-synthetic pseudopteroxazoles, pseudopteroquinoxalines and pseudopterosin congeners along with simple synthetic mimics of the terpene skeleton were synthesized. In order to build structure-activity relationships, a set of 29 new and previously reported compounds was assessed for in vitro antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities. A number of congeners exhibited antimicrobial activity against a range of Gram-positive bacteria including Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv, with four displaying notable antitubercular activity against both replicating and non-replicating persistent forms of M. tuberculosis. One new semi-synthetic compound, 21-((1H-imidazol-5-yl)methyl)-pseudopteroxazole (7a), was more potent than the natural products pseudopterosin and pseudopteroxazole and exhibited equipotent activity against both replicating and non-replicating persistent forms of M. tuberculosis with a near absence of in vitro cytotoxicity. Pseudopteroxazole also exhibited activity against strains of M. tuberculosis H37Rv resistant to six clinically used antibiotics.  相似文献

Pure compound screening has previously identified the indolglyoxylamidospermidine ascidian metabolites didemnidine A and B (2 and 3) to be weak growth inhibitors of Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense (IC50 59 and 44 μM, respectively) and Plasmodium falciparum (K1 dual drug resistant strain) (IC50 41 and 15 μM, respectively), but lacking in selectivity (L6 rat myoblast, IC50 24 μM and 25 μM, respectively). To expand the structure–activity relationship of this compound class towards both parasites, we have prepared and biologically tested a library of analogues that includes indoleglyoxyl and indoleacetic “capping acids”, and polyamines including spermine (PA3-4-3) and extended analogues PA3-8-3 and PA3-12-3. 7-Methoxy substituted indoleglyoxylamides were typically found to exhibit the most potent antimalarial activity (IC50 10–92 nM) but with varying degrees of selectivity versus the L6 rat myoblast cell line. A 6-methoxyindolglyoxylamide analogue was the most potent growth inhibitor of T. brucei (IC50 0.18 μM) identified in the study: it, however, also exhibited poor selectivity (L6 IC50 6.0 μM). There was no apparent correlation between antimalarial and anti-T. brucei activity in the series. In vivo evaluation of one analogue against Plasmodium berghei was undertaken, demonstrating a modest 20.9% reduction in parasitaemia.  相似文献

The genetic diversity within and among seven Tunisian natural populations of Hypericum humifusum L., from different geographic regions and bioclimates, was assessed using 11 isozymic polymorphic loci, and 166 RAPD markers amplified by 8 primers. The genetic diversity within populations based on allozymes was higher (P = 72.46%, Ap = 2.01 and He = 0.29), than that revealed by RAPDs (29.52 < P < 39.16% and 0.150 < H < 0.200). Both markers yielded high estimates of genetic differentiation and low gene flow (Nm = 0.257 and 0.508 for RAPD and allozymes, respectively) among populations at all space scales. However, the level of differentiation revealed by RAPDs (ΦST = 0.494; GST = 0.561) was higher than that based on allozymes (FST = 0.117). No correlation (Mantel test) among genetic (FST and ΦST matrices) and geographical distance matrices was observed indicating no isolation by distance. Cluster analyses from allozyme and RAPD loci did not completely agree. The dendrogram based on allozymes yielded higher separation among most populations, while that from RAPDs separated populations into three distinct subclusters. Groupings of populations, in both dendrograms, did not reflect spatial geographic or bioclimatic patterns, indicating specific adaptation of populations to local environments. The correlation between matrices of allozyme and RAPD band frequencies was not significant (Mantel test). The dendrogram obtained from combined data yielded similar population groupings to that probed by RAPDs suggesting higher accuracy of these markers. Given the high differentiation among all populations even at a low geographic distance, ex situ conservation should involve extensive seed collection from all populations from all bioclimatic zones. The populations from the upper semi-arid bioclimate exhibiting relatively high level of genetic diversity should be first protected.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the protective effects of the marine brown algae Petalonia binghamiae against oxidative stress-induced cellular damage and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. P. binghamiae methanol extract (PBME) prevented hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced growth inhibition and exhibited scavenging activity against intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by H2O2 in mouse-derived C2C12 myoblasts. PBME also significantly attenuated H2O2-induced comet tail formation in a comet assay, histone γH2A.X phosphorylation, and annexin V-positive cells, suggesting that PBME prevented H2O2-induced cellular DNA damage and apoptotic cell death. Furthermore, PBME increased the levels of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a potent antioxidant enzyme, associated with the induction of nuclear factor-erythroid 2 related factor 2 (Nrf2). However, zinc protoporphyrin IX, a HO-1 competitive inhibitor, significantly abolished the protective effects of PBME on H2O2-induced ROS generation, growth inhibition, and apoptosis. Collectively, these results demonstrate that PBME augments the antioxidant defense capacity through activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.  相似文献

Toxicities of the eight quinones were evaluated through leaf dip bioassays conducted against Tetranychus urticae, Myzus persicae, Myzocallis walshii, and Illinoia liriodendri. Based on LC50 values, plumbagin (LC50 = 0.001%) was the most active compound against T. urticae and ubiquinone Q0 (LC50 = 0.005%), plumbagin (LC50 = 0.010%), and dibromothymoquinone (LC50 = 0.012%) were the most active compounds against M. persicae. The most active compounds against M. walshii were juglone (LC50 = 0.011%) and ubiquinone Q0 (LC50 = 0.019%), whereas dibromothymoquinone (LC50 = 0.030%), plumbagin (LC50 = 0.033%) and ubiquinone Q0 (LC50 = 0.058%) were the most toxic to I. liriodendri. Ecotrol (positive control) was the least toxic compound (LC50 = 0.39%) against T. urticae and M. persicae (LC50 = 0.447%). Although the majority of the compounds tested were toxic to all four test species in residual bioassays, there was little overlap among the test species in terms of susceptibility to the compounds and interspecific differences were observed. Regarding structure-activity relationships for quinones, the addition of a hydroxyl group resulted in a significant increase in the toxicity of the 1,4-naphthoquinones, and those possessing a methyl group exhibited the highest levels of activity in T. urticae. The bromine atom at the 2- and 5-positions of the benzoquinone ring is crucial to the toxicity of the compounds against I. liriodendri. Toxicity was greatly affected not only by the number of hydroxyl groups, but also by their positions in the ring in the case of M. walshii. Juglone and plumbagin as residual toxins in the laboratory also reduced the population of two-spotted spider mites compared to EcoTrol™ (positive control) and the negative control in the greenhouse experiment. Some quinones tested may have potential as commercial insecticides and miticides, or alternatively, could serve as lead compounds for the development of more potent crop protection agents.  相似文献

In central Europe, rodent damage in cereal crops is usually attributed to the common vole but these are caused by other rodents such as Apodemus mice as well. This raises a practical problem of identifying the rodent pests causing the damage to cereals at the time of harvest. To facilitate field differentiation between the damage caused by voles or mice, we conducted laboratory experiments in which the common vole, wood mouse and pygmy field mouse were presented with standing culms of wheat. Harvesting behaviour in these rodents differed strikingly. Wood mice first climbed and then cut down the culm at a height of about 20 cm. Pygmy field mice climbed to the top of the culm, harvesting only the ear. Voles cut the culm close to the ground leaving the stubble of about 8 cm in height. Our observations provide a quick and simple clue for identifying a causal rodent species in cereals and help in adopting a proper strategy for population management of a pest rodent.  相似文献

Two new sesquiterpenes, 1β,5α,6α,14-tetraacetoxy-9α-benzoyloxy-7βH-eudesman-2β,11-diol (1) and 4α,5α-diacetoxy-9α-benzoyloxy-7βH-eudesman-1β,2β,11,14-tetraol (2), were produced as stress metabolites in the cultured mycelia of Pestalotiopsis sp. Z233 isolated from the algae Sargassum horneri in response to abiotic stress elicitation by CuCl2. Their structures were established by spectroscopic means. New compounds 1 and 2 showed tyrosinase inhibitory activities with IC50 value of 14.8 µM and 22.3 µM.  相似文献

In commercial apple orchards in southern Brazil, it is common to avoid hail damage by covering the trees with nets. This study was carried out to assess the effects of both black and white hail netting on the temporal dynamics of Glomerella Leaf Spot disease (GLS) in a commercial ‘Royal Gala’ apple orchard in a high-altitude region of southern Brazil during two growing seasons (2003/2004 and 2004/2005). Apple trees on M9 rootstock, trained to a slender spindle and with a spacing of 5.5 m × 3 m, were left uncovered (control) or covered with black or white hail netting. The incidence and severity of GLS were quantified biweekly from October to February by evaluating 100 leaves distributed randomly on four medium-height branches per plant on each 12 replications per treatment. Disease progress curves were constructed from the data and the epidemics were compared by using four epidemiological measures: the beginning of symptom appearance (BSA), the time to reach the maximum disease intensity (TRMDI), the maximum value of disease severity (Ymax), and the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). The highest intensity of GLS was observed in the plants under the black hail netting. Significant reductions in BSA and TRMDI and significant increases in Ymax and AUDPC were found among treatments in both growing seasons. However, no significant differences of GLS were found between the white hail netting and the control in either growing season.  相似文献
