Experiment was carried out to determine the median lethal concentration (LC50) of fenvalerate to Labeo rohita fingerlings. After determining the LC50 value of fenvalerate, a sub-lethal concentration (1/3rd of LC50) of fenvalerate was exposed for 15 days. Significant alterations in SOD (P < 0.05) activity of liver and gill was observed due to fenvalerate. Catalase activity in gills of fishes was also affected significantly (P < 0.05). WBC, NBT and Hct values were reduced significantly in fenvalerate exposed fishes as compared to control group, whereas blood glucose level showed higher values in fenvalerate exposed group. Serum total protein and albumin were also reduced significantly as a result of fenvalerate exposure. Significant increase in the serum GOT, serum GPT, creatinine, triglyceride and serum ACP was noticed after 15 days of fenvalerate exposure. Results indicated that short term exposure of fenvalerate can induce biochemical and haematological alterations causing stress to L. rohita fingerlings.  相似文献

Five experimental diets with various combinations of probiotics, namely T1 & T6 (basal feed (BF) without probiotics), T2 & T7 (BF + Bacillus subtilis + Lactococcus lactis), T3 & T8 (BF + L. lactis + Saccharomyces cerevisiae), T4 & T9 (BF + B. subtilis + S. cerevisiae) and T5 & T10 (BF + B. subtilis + L. lactis + S. cerevisiae) were fed to Labeo rohita fingerlings for 30 days. Treatment groups T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 were exposed to Fenvalerate, at a concentration of 1.79 μg L−1. The SOD and CAT activity was significantly affected (P < 0.01) in fenvalerate treated groups. However, the supplementation of the three-probiotic mixture at equal concentration showed markedly reduced activity. Similarly, RBC, Hb, NBT, total protein and albumin values were reduced significantly (P < 0.01) in the fenvalerate exposed fish as compared to the probiotic supplemented fish. Fenvalerate exposure also showed increased serum ALP, ACP and Bilirubin values (P < 0.01) in comparison to the non-exposed fish. Histological observations of the gills, kidney and liver showed tissue degeneration after fenvalerate exposure, which however showed marked recovery on the three-probiotic mixture supplementation. Therefore, these results indicate that a mixture of multi-species probiotic supplementation in equal concentration acts beneficially in mitigating the stressful effects of fenvalerate.  相似文献

Agricultural run off that is contaminated with pesticides enters water bodies, thereby polluting the aquatic environment. The sensitivity of the freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium malcolmsonii, to such pesticides is well-documented. However, the stress response to sublethal concentrations of pesticides has scarcely been investigated. In the present study, the effect of two different sublethal concentrations (1/5th and 1/10th of LC50 value) of endosulfan and carbaryl on the synthesis of hsp70 in various tissues of the prawn M. malcolmsonii was evaluated by Western blotting analysis. Among the tissues analyzed (gill, skeletal muscle, and hepatopancreas), induction of hsp70 synthesis was recorded only in the gill tissue of the prawns that had been exposed to either the high or low sublethal concentration of endosulfan. Induction of synthesis of hsp70 was not observed in any of the tissues sampled from the prawns that had been exposed to either the low or the high sublethal concentration of carbaryl. Pesticides interfere with the hydrophobic core of protein, thus leading to denaturation of the protein by exposing the lipophilic moieties to the aqueous environment. Specific induction of hsp70 in the gill possibly occurred since the gill is the route of exposure for pesticides in the prawns. The absence of induction of hsp70 synthesis in prawns that had been exposed to carbaryl suggests that induction of hsp70 synthesis is stressor-specific.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of subchronic exposure to the herbicide LASSO MTX (alachlor 42% W/V) on biometric parameters and important liver biomarkers in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio). One year old fish were exposed for 28 days to LASSO MTX added to the tank water at concentrations of 240 and 2400 μg L−1. The exposure did not affect fish biometric parameters. Glutathione-S-tranferase (GST) activity in liver (hepatopancreas) remained unchanged in exposed fish when compared to controls. However, significant induction of total cytochrome P 450 (CYP 450), ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) activity and elevated glutathione (GSH) in liver of exposed fish were detected.  相似文献

Recovery study was performed at regular intervals to establish the time course of 50% and 100% recovery in neurotransmitter enzyme (acetylcholinesterase, AChE, EC 3.1.1.7) and locomotor behaviour response of mosquito fish, Gambusia affinis exposed to lethal concentration (20.49 mg L−1) of an organophosphorous pesticide, monocrotophos (MCP) for 96 h. In vitro AChE activity studies indicated that MCP could cause 50% inhibition (I50) at 10.2 × 10−5 M. A positive correlation was observed between brain AChE activity and swimming speed during the recovery study. Also, the recovery response of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1), catalase (CAT, EC 1.11.1.6) and glutathione reductase (GR, EC 1.6.4.2) as well as lipid peroxidation (LPO) as biomarkers of oxidative stress were assessed in viscera of G. affinis. The results showed that the MCP besides its inhibitory effect on target enzyme AChE activity and induction in antioxidant enzyme activities as a characteristic of oxidative stress, which can be used as biomarkers in the pesticide contaminated aquatic streams.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of malachite green on selected immunological parameters, oxidative stress and antioxidant status biomarkers in blood, liver, kidney, spleen and gill of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, was examined. During 5 days the malachite green was applied at concentrations of 1/15,000 and 1/150,000 for 30 s and 60 min, respectively. Immunological parameters (nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) activity, total plasma protein (TP), total immunoglobulin (TI)) and biochemical parameters (lipid peroxidation (MDA), catalase (CAT) activity, reduced glutathione (GSH) levels) were evaluated after exposed to malachite green. It has been observed that NBT activity (p < 0.05, p < 0.001), total protein (p < 0.01, p < 0.001) and total immunoglobulin (p < 0.05, p < 0.001) levels were decreased compared with control group. In the rainbow tout exposed to malachite green duration 5 days significantly increased lipid peroxidation, which might be associated to decreased levels of reduced glutathione and catalase activity in the whole tissues of O. mykiss (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.001 for each cases).  相似文献

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Stål, is a primary insect pest of cultivated rice, and its effective control is essential for crop production. However, in recent years, outbreaks of the brown planthopper have occurred more frequently in China. In order to determine the causes and mechanisms of insecticide-induced BPH resurgence and perform population management, we conducted the following studies. By the topical application method, our results showed that, fenvalerate acted as stimulus of fecundity from 3.50 × 10−3 to 2.02 × 10−2 μg/female in the BPH. Apart from 7.00 × 10−3 μg/female, the number of hatched nymphs was increased gradually with an increase in application dose from 3.50 × 10−3 to 1.74 × 10−2 μg/female. After continuous selection with fenvalerate for 11 generations by the rice-stem dipping method, a resistant strain was achieved with medium resistance to fenvalerate (RR 39.22). Life table study indicated that the resistant strain (G4 and G8) showed reproductive advantages, including increased female ratio, copulation rate and fecundity. But the hatchability of resistant strain was lower. The survival rate and emergence rate were significantly lower in G4 and G8 resistant strain. Resistant strains in G4 and G8 showed a fitness advantage (1.04 and 1.11), and the number of offspring in G8 generation was higher than that in G4 generation. The significant difference detected between resistant insects (G4, G5, G8 and G9) and S-strain contains not only the effect of resistant selection but also the effect of continuous rearing itself. Hence it was concluded that the BPH had the potential to develop high resistance against fenvalerate and the induction of the nymphs by sublethal doses of fenvalerate was of importance in the BPH population management, particularly in the predicting. Further studies demonstrated that triphenyl phosphate (TPP) and diethyl maleate (DEM) had no synergism on fenvalerate. However, piperonyl butoxide (PBO) displayed significant synergism in susceptible strain (1.97) and resistant strain (2.73). We concluded that esterase and glutathione S-transferase play little role in fenvalerate detoxification. The increase of the P450-monooxygenases detoxification is an important mechanism for fenvalerate resistance. Because their resistant populations had a fitness advantage, we should pay close attention to the occurrence of BPH and use other functionally different insecticides to control the BPH.  相似文献

Organophosphothionate insecticide fenitrothion is known as potential toxic pollutant contaminating aquatic ecosystems. The effects of fenitrothion were studied to determine the 96 h LC50 value on Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and investigate histopathological responses of fish exposed to sublethal fenitrothion concentrations. Data obtained from the fenitrothion acute toxicity tests were evaluated using the Probit Analysis Statistical Method. The 96 h LC50 value and 95% confidence limit for Nile tilapia (58.70 ± 6.97 g) was estimated as 0.84 (0.68-1.15) mg/L. Behavioral changes were observed closely during the acute toxicity test. The bioassay experiments were repeated three times and static test method was used. Some fish exposed to 96 h 0.1, 0.5 mg/L fenitrothion concentrations showed histopathological alterations in the gills, liver, kidney, brain and testes. Severely deformations were observed at 0.5 mg/L fenitrothion on the gills lamella such as hyperemia, epithelial hyperplasia, fusion and telangiectasis, in the liver tissue such as cloudy swelling, hydropic degenerations and lipid infiltration. In addition hyperemia and hemorrhage observed in kidney tissue and hyperemia was determined in brain tissue.  相似文献

Diethyl phthalate (DEP) enter into aquatic environment from industries manufacturing cosmetics, plastic and many commercial products and can pose potential fish and human health hazard. This experiment evaluated effects of DEP in adult male (89 g) common carp (Cyprinus carpio) by exposing them to fractions of LC50 (1/500-1/2.5) doses with every change of water for 28 days. Vitellogenin induction metabolic enzymes, somatic indices and bioaccumulation were studied on 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th day. The 96th hour LC50 of DEP in fingerlings was found to be 48 mg/L. Compared to control, except increase (P < 0.01) in alkaline phosphatase activity (EC 3.1.3.1) and liver size, there was decrease (P < 0.01) in activity of acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2), aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1), alanine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.2) and testiculosomatic index following exposure to 1, 5 and 20 ppm DEP. Significant (P < 0.01) dose dependant vitellogenin induction was observed with exposure of fish to 0.1, 1 and 5 ppm DEP. The bioaccumulation of DEP in testis, liver, brain, gills and more importantly in muscle tissues of fish increased significantly (P < 0.01) with increase of dose from 1 to 5 ppm. Significant interaction (P < 0.01) of dose and duration of exposure indicated that exposure period of a week to two was sufficient to bring about changes in quantifiable parameters studied. Fish exposed to 20 ppm DEP became lethargic and discolored during onset of the 4th week. This is the first report describing metabolic changes and vitellogenin induction following exposure of C. carpio to DEP dose that is as low as 1/500th fraction of LC50.  相似文献

Freshwater fish, Channa punctatus, commonly known as the snakehead fish, was exposed to two sublethal concentrations (0.96 and 1.86 mg/L) (selected on the basis of 1/20 and 1/10 of 96 h LC50 value) of monocrotophos for two exposure periods (15 and 60 days). Effects of monocrotophos on Na+, K+-ATPase in liver, kidney, muscle, intestine, brain, heart and gills were determined. Results indicate that Na+, K+-ATPase activity in tissues decreased as concentration of monocrotophos and exposure period increased. Monocrotophos induced significant inhibitory effects on the Na+, K+-ATPase activity of C. punctatus, ranging from gills (70%) > Kidney (63%) > brain (57%) > intestine (52%) > liver (50%) > muscle (47%) > heart (44%) inhibition at a sublethal concentration of 0.96 mg/L. Significant inhibition was detected in Na+, K+-ATPase activity, ranging from gills (90%) > heart (78%) > kidney (78%) > muscle (74%) > intestine (71%) > brain (67%) > liver (63%) at sublethal concentration of 1.86 mg/L. After subacute exposure (15 days) only gills and brain showed significant inhibition after higher concentration (1.86 mg/L). However, it is evident that exposure duration is more important than dose in the inhibition of the activity of enzyme. At lower concentration initial stimulation of the activity of Na+, K+-ATPase activity was also noticed. It is suggested that the inhibition of the ATPase by monocrotophos blocked the active transport system of the gill epithelial as well as chloride cells, glomerular and epithelial cells of the tubules and thus altered the osmoregulatory mechanism of the fish. In fact, the impairment of the activity of enzymes which carry out key physiological roles could cause alterations of the physiology of the whole organism.  相似文献

The toxicological and biochemical characteristics of glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in Liposcelis bostrychophila and L. entomophila were comparatively investigated. Compared to their counterparts in L. entomophila, the activities of both GSTs and SOD from L. bostrychophila were significantly higher (P < 0.05), indicating that there was a stronger ability to eliminate the toxicants in the latter. The inhibition kinetics of insecticides revealed that dichlorvos and paraoxon possessed excellent inhibitory effects on GSTs in vitro, while there were some activated effects of chlorpyrifos on GSTs, more significant in L. entomophila. As for SOD in vivo, dichlorvos and chlorpyrifos had some inhibitory effects under the condition of sublethal concentration. However, the situation of carbosulfan was a little complex. Within the first 3 h treatment period there were facilitated effects on SOD in L. bostrychophila, and some expressed inhibitory effects. While in L. entomophila carbosulfan always possessed inhibitory effects on SOD.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of sublethal exposures to the anticholinesterase insecticides azinphos methyl (AzMe) and carbaryl on the detoxifying responses of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were investigated. Juvenile specimen were exposed to sublethal concentrations of AzMe (2.5 and 5 μg/L) and carbaryl (1 and 3 mg/L) for 24, 48 and 96 h. Carboxylesterase (CbE), catalase (CAT) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) activities as well as reduced glutathione (GSH) and cytochrome P450-1A (CYP1A) levels were monitored in liver and/or kidney. In all exposed groups liver CbE was significantly inhibited. Liver and kidney GSH level was reduced after sublethal exposure to both compounds. Carbaryl induced CAT activity during the first 48 h of exposure, followed by a significant decrease, whereas AzMe continuously decreased CAT activity. GST activity and CYP1A were transiently induced at 24 h by carbaryl exposure (3 mg/L) but sublethal exposure to AzMe did not affect GST activity or CYP1A. Our results show that the O. mykiss detoxifying system are a target for carbaryl and AzMe action, probably affecting redox balance. Although the responses showed similar trends in both organs, they were more important in liver than in kidney. The early inhibitory effect in CAT activity and GSH content produced by AzMe may be associated with a high degree of oxidative stress. Early induction of CYP1A, GST and CAT by carbaryl followed by enzyme inhibition suggests a milder or delayed oxidative stress, revealing differences between both pesticides metabolization. CbE inhibition is a good biomarker for AzMe and carbaryl exposure.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different N-acetylcysteine doses on the tolerance to fenthion-induced oxidative stress, alterations in glutathione metabolism and cholinesterase specific activities in the liver by using freshwater fish Cyprinus carpio (Cyprinidae) as a model organism. An acute toxicity study was carried out to determine 96-h median lethal concentration of fenthion for this species (2.16 mg/L) and 80% of this concentration was applied in toxicity studies. Four groups, each containing eight fish were constituted as follows: Control group, fenthion treated group, 0.5 or 400 mg/kg NAC-injected + fenthion-treated groups. Biochemical analyses were carried out spectrophotometrically. Fenthion treatment significantly decreased total glutathione and glutathione levels, glutathione/glutathione disulfide ratio together with glutathione reductase and γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase specific enzyme activities. The higher dose of N-acetylcysteine increased the toxic effects of fenthion and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase specific activity while decreasing glutathione S-transferase specific activity. However, injection of the lower dose provided a limited protection against fenthion toxicity. In all exposure groups, lipid peroxidation increased and total protein levels decreased, while protein depletion was prevented by low dose of N-acetylcysteine application. Acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activities were at similar levels in the liver of C. carpio. A dose-dependent inhibition was observed in butyrylcholinesterase activity by N-acetylcysteine application. The results showed that fenthion had a significant oxidative stress inducing potential through the reduction of glutathione redox capacity. The critical point for overcoming oxidative stress by N-acetylcysteine in fenthion toxicity was the selection of the dose; N-acetylcysteine exerted its toxic effects by means of oxidative stress in fish liver at the higher dose.  相似文献

The oriental tobacco worm, Helicoverpa assulta Guenée, is one of the most destructive pests of tobacco and peppers in China. We determined the susceptibility of H. assulta reared on an artificial diet, chili pepper and tobacco to four insecticides (fenvalerate, phoxim, methomyl, indoxacarb) under laboratory conditions associated with the activities of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), carboxylesterase (CarE) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) in its larvae. H. assulta larvae that were fed with chili pepper were more susceptible to fenvalerate, indoxacarb, and phoxim than those that were fed with tobacco and the artificial diet, but not to methomyl. The larvae that were fed with chili pepper were 3.65-, 2.49-, 1.92- and 2.44-fold more susceptible to fenvalerate, phoxim, methomyl, and indoxacarb than those fed with tobacco, respectively. The AChE activities of H. assulta larvae that were fed with chili pepper and tobacco were 2.12 and 1.07 μmol mg−1 15 min−1, respectively, almost 2-fold difference. The CarE activity of H. assulta larvae that were fed with chili pepper, tobacco and the artificial diet was 4.12, 7.40 and 7.12 μmol mg−1 30 min−1, respectively. Similarly, the GST activities of H. assulta larvae that were fed with chili pepper, tobacco and the artificial diet was 52.02, 79.37 and 80.02 μmol mg−1 min−1, respectively. H. assulta larvae that were fed with chili pepper were more resistance to the tested insecticides. The low activities of AChE and the high activities of CarE and GST lead to H. assulta become more susceptible to the tested insecticides.  相似文献

The present report was aimed to study possible changes in the activity of glutathione-dependent enzymes glyoxalase I (G I) and glyoxalase II (G II), forming the glyoxalase system, and glutathione-S-transferase in tissues (gills, foot, and digestive gland) of the mediterranean bivalve mollusc Scapharca inaequivalvis, after a 4- or 15-day exposure to a sublethal concentration (0.1 ppm) of the organophosphate pesticide chlorpyrifos (CPF). Control experiments were also performed on untreated animals. G I activity decreased in gills and foot, and increased in the digestive gland after 4 days of CPF exposure. Glyoxalase II activity in the gills decreased after a 15 days exposure to CPF, was unchanged in the foot and increased after 15 days in the digestive gland. Glutathione-S-transferase activity, which is involved in the detoxification of xenobiotics, increased significantly in all tissues after CPF exposure. The results suggest that sublethal CPF exposure of S. inaequivalvis does not compromise the cellular redox balance in these tissues.  相似文献

Concerns have been raised that the amphibian larval stages are particularly at risk and may be vulnerable to adverse effects of pesticides. The present study reports acute toxicity of cypermethrin at 24, 48, 72 and 96 h through static renewal bioassay test for Duttaphrynus melanostictus. The LC50 values were 5.15, 4.55, 3.95, and 3.34 μg/L for 24, 48, 72, and 96 h respectively. At sublethal concentration (0.33 μg/L) behavioral, morphological and biochemical changes were studied. The behavioral and morphological anomalies observed in the present study are typical signs of cyano pyrethroid poisoning. Significant changes were observed in total, soluble, and structural proteins. The depletion of all the protein fractions observed in this investigation led to progressive protein oxidation and catabolism of proteins. Decreased protein level has resulted in a marked elevation of free amino acid levels at all time intervals. The induction of catalase, glutathione-S-transferase activities and elevation in the levels of hydrogen peroxide, reduced glutathione, and malondialdehyde eventually lead to oxidative damage of biomolecules, showing that the generation of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress are involved in the toxicity induced by cypermethrin. Indicating increased susceptibility of tadpoles. Thus, an exposure to cypermethrin at sublethal concentration had catastrophic effect on tadpoles of D. melanostictus.  相似文献

An extracellular chitinase was purified from Bacillus subtilis. The lethal concentration (LC50) was determined by using chitinase in first, second, and third instars of Spodoptera litura Fab. Chitinase showed the highest insecticidal activity at 6 μM concentration within 48 h. The nutritional indices were also significantly affected by the 6 μM concentration (P < 0.05). Food consumption, efficiency of conversion of ingested and digested food, relative growth rate, and consumption values declined significantly while approximate digestibility was increased. Our study indicates that treatment of host plant leaves with the chitinase can regulate (reduce) larval growth and weight, and enhance the mortality. This may serve as an effective biocide and alternative to Bt toxin.  相似文献

Cypermethrin belongs to the class of synthetic pyrethroids, which are being widely used as an insecticides in agricultural practices. The toxicity of cypermethrin is well studied in Drosophila melanogaster, fish, rats, mice, and is reported to cause neurotoxicity and oxidative stress during its metabolism. In this study, we evaluated the biological consequences of 4 h exposure to cypermethrin at sublethal concentrations (1, 5 and 15 mM) in Caenorhabditis elegans on physiological parameters such as egg laying, brood size, feeding and lifespan and oxidative stress parameters such as ROS, hydrogen peroxide levels, protein carbonyl, enzymatic antioxidants and glutathione levels. There was a significant and dose-dependent decrease in brood size (18-53%), egg laying (54-67%), feeding (29-58%) and marked decrease in lifespan (20%) at 15 mM of cypermethrin. Increase in levels of oxidative markers such as ROS (21-56%), intracellular hydrogen peroxide (17-62%), protein carbonyl (8-29%) and alteration in the activity of enzymatic antioxidants as well as depletion of glutathione (13-38%) were also observed. Our study offers evidence to show that cypermethrin induces significant oxidative stress in C. elegans and alters several physiological parameters in these worms, which can lead to impaired functioning, and survival of these worms.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate biochemical and morphological responses induced by carbaryl in the liver of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) exposed during 21 days to sublethal concentrations (0.25 and 0.5 mg L−1), testing also recover for 14 days in clean water, after 14 days exposure. The activities of the following enzymes were measured: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GR), and reduced (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG). Globally, our data showed that exposure to carbaryl decreased the SOD, CAT, GR, and GST activities, except for the SOD and GST activities after 14 days exposure to 0.25 mg L−1. In contrast, after 14 days exposure the GR activity of the hepatic tissue from carbaryl-treated fish showed significant elevation in relation to the control. When fish were left to recover, a positive response was seen in the GSH and GSSG contents. The results of the recovery group suggest that the toxicity produced by carbaryl is reversible to some extent within 15 days. The liver histological analysis showed differences between fish concerning the cellular vacuolization degree (VD) of the hepatocytes. In fish exposed to carbaryl it was observed an increasing hepatocellular basophilia. No other histological alterations were observed when fish was exposed to carbaryl, except a few necrotic foci at day 7. The sections stained with PAS reaction showed that the vacuolization was always not due to glycogen deposits, thus suggesting lipid accumulation. The combined increased basophilia and glycogen depletion is a common, although non-specific, liver response to many toxicants. In short, this work shows a relation between histological and biochemical changes in liver and carbaryl exposure. The effects of carbaryl were observed at different concentrations.  相似文献

Four plant species, as a dry powder of their leaves, were tested against Biomphalaria alexandrina snails, the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni. The bioassay tests revealed the plants Datura stramonium and Sesbania sesban to be more toxic to the snails than the other two ones. Therefore, they were tested against snails’ fecundity (Mx), reproduction rate (Ro) and their infection with S. mansoni miracidia. In addition, total protein concentration and the activities of the transaminases (AsT and AlT) and phosphatases (AcP and AkP) enzymes in hemolymph and tissues of snails treated with these plants were determined. As well, glucose concentration in snails’ hemolymph was evaluated.Exposure of snails for 4 weeks to LC10 and LC25 of the plants D. stramonium and S. sesban dry powder markly suppressed their Mx and Ro. The reduction rates of Ro for snails exposed to LC25 of these plants were 62.1% and 76.4%, respectively. As well, a considerable reduction in the infection rates of snails exposed to these plants either during, pre- or post-miracidial exposure was recorded. Thus, infection rates of snails treated during miracidial exposure with LC10 of D. stramonium and S. sesban were 41.7% and 52.2%, respectively, compared to 92.6% for control group (P < 0.01). These plants, also, reduced the duration of cercarial shedding and cercarial production/snail. So, snails exposed to LC25 of these plants shed 372.8 and 223.2 cercariae/snail, respectively, compared to 766.3 cercariae/infected control snail (P < 0.01).The results, also, revealed that glucose and total protein concentrations in hemolymph of snails treated with LC10 and LC25 of these plants were decreased, meanwhile, the activities of the enzymes AsT, AlT, AcP and AkP were elevated (P < 0.01). However, the activity of AcP in tissues of treated snails was decreased compared to that of control ones. It is concluded that LC25 of the plants D. stramonium and S. sesban negatively interferes with biological and physiological activities of B. alexandrina snails, consequently it could be effective in interrupting and minimizing the transmission of S. mansoni.  相似文献
