The study reports on differences in the dynamics of growth and functionality of preovulatory follicles in response to oestrous synchronization, either by the administration of two doses of prostaglandin or by an intravaginal progestagen sponge, in goats. The progestagen-treated group (n = 8) showed more follicles of preovulatory size (> or =5.5 mm) than the cloprostenol group (n = 8) during the follicular phase (4.5 +/- 0.6 vs 1.9 +/- 0.2, p < 0.01). The diameters of the largest follicles (LF1, LF2 and LF3) were also larger in the progestagen group (LF1, 7.8 +/- 0.3 vs 7.0 +/- 0.2 mm, p < 0.05; LF2, 6.7 +/- 0.2 vs 5.6 +/- 0.2 mm, p < 0.01; LF3, 5.5 +/- 0.3 vs 4.2 +/- 0.2 mm, p < 0.01). The study of the preovulatory follicles showed that 27.2% (3/11) of the follicles were in the static phase in the cloprostenol group, whilst 71.4% (10/14) were static in progestagen group (p < 0.05). Higher plasma oestradiol levels were recorded in the progestagen-treated goats during the 48 h prior to cloprostenol injection or progestagen withdrawal (4.2 +/- 0.4 vs 3.0 +/- 0.2 pg/ml, p < 0.05). In conclusion, goats with oestrus synchronized by progestagen showed a higher number of preovulatory-sized follicles, but a decreased oestradiol secretion when compared with does with oestrus synchronized by using prostaglandin analogues. These would support the development of alternative protocols for assisted reproduction.  相似文献

The association between conception rate at first service and numbers of follicles developed during a follicular wave was examined in 102 suckled beef cows and 14 heifers. Follicular development was monitored using ultrasonography for either two (trial 1) or three (trial 2) consecutive oestrous cycles (pre-breeding, breeding and post-breeding equivalent). Animals were examined on alternate days from day 6 after first oestrus (day 0) until ovulation and from day 6 after insemination until next ovulation or day 24 of pregnancy and were observed for oestrus twice daily and inseminated artificially at either the second (trial 1) or third oestrus (trial 2). Cows were classified as having two or three waves of follicular development for each oestrous cycle. Numbers of follicles >or=4 mm per wave were determined, and based on the maximum diameter they attained, were classified as small (4-6 mm), medium (7-10 mm) or large (>or=11 mm) follicles. Total numbers of follicles, and primarily numbers of small and medium follicles, were affected by trial and within trial by cow, oestrous cycle and follicular wave. Heifers had more small and total numbers of follicles, but fewer large follicles than cows in trial 1 (p < 0.05). The average number of antral follicles per wave in the breeding cycle or post-breeding period did not affect conception rates, which averaged 84%. Repeatability of the total numbers of antral follicles between and among oestrous cycles and follicular waves ranged from 0.01 to 0.97. In conclusion, fertility was not affected by the numbers of antral follicles >or=4 mm in diameter in a single follicular wave.  相似文献

This study characterized follicular activity and oestrous behaviour from 5 to 9 days post‐calving up to the 4th ovulation postpartum (pp) in 16 multiparous (range 2–7 parities) Thai swamp buffalo cows (Bubalus bubalis), aged 4–12 years and weighing from 432 to 676 kg. Ovarian follicular activity was examined by transrectal ultrasonography (TUS) every morning. Oestrous detection was performed twice daily by direct personal observation of behaviour and for presence of clear cervical mucus discharge and indirectly by video camera recording during 21 h/day. A follicular wave‐like pattern was present before the 1st ovulation leading to short oestrous cycles. Growth rates and maximum diameters of the ovulatory follicles did not differ between the 1st and 4th ovulations. However, growth rate for non‐ovulatory dominant follicles (DF) before the 1st ovulation was lower than for the ovulatory follicle (p < 0.05). In addition, the diameter of all ovulatory follicles (14.3 ± 0.46 mm, n = 39) was significantly larger (p < 0.01) than those of the preceding last but one non‐ovulatory DF (10.8 ± 0.20 mm, n = 5), but similar to the last preceding non‐ovulatory DF diameter (12.92 ± 0.96 mm, n = 14). Short oestrous cycles were most common between the 1st and 2nd ovulations (93.75%, 15/16 cows, 10.2 ± 0.38 days) decreasing in prevalence thereafter (50%, 3/6 buffaloes, 12.0 ± 1.53 days). Oestrous signs were relatively vague around the 1st ovulation pp to become more easily detectable thereafter. This study suggests that properly fed swamp buffaloes could be mated successfully within 2 months pp, at their 2nd spontaneous ovulation, provided oestrous detection is at least performed daily at 06:00–08:00 hour.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that luteal function and fertility would be reduced in cattle induced to ovulate prematurely compared with those ovulating spontaneously. Estrus was synchronized in 56 beef cows (24 that were nonlactating and 32 that were nursing calves). At 6.4 +/- 0.1 d after estrus, all follicles > or = 5 mm were aspirated (day of aspiration = d 0) with a 17-gauge needle using the ultrasound-guided transvaginal approach. On d 1.5 and 2, cows were administered 2 luteolytic doses of PGF2alpha. Ovarian structures were monitored by transrectal ultrasonography from d -2 to 12, or ovulation. Emergence of a new follicular wave occurred on d 1.7 +/- 0.1. When the largest follicle of the newly emerged wave was 10 mm in diameter (d 4.8 +/- 0.1), cows were assigned on an alternating basis to receive 100 microg of GnRH (GnRH-10; n = 29) to induce ovulation or, upon detection of spontaneous estrus, to the spontaneous (SPON) treatment (n = 24). Cows were bred by AI at 12 h after GnRH (GnRH-10) or 12 h after the onset of estrus (SPON) as detected using an electronic surveillance system. Blood samples were collected every other day beginning 2 d after ovulation until pregnancy diagnosis 30 d after AI. Ovulation and AI occurred in 29/29 cows in the GnRH-10 and in 24/24 cows in the SPON treatment. Ovulation occurred later (P < 0.05) in the SPON (d 7.7 +/- 0.1) than GnRH-10 (d 6.8 +/- 0.1) treatment. Double ovulations were detected in 47% of cows, resulting in 1.5 +/- 0.1 ovulations per cow. Diameters of the ovulatory and the second ovulatory (in cows with 2 ovulations) follicles were greater (P < 0.05) in the SPON (12.0 +/- 0.3 mm and 10.5 +/- 0.4 mm, respectively) than in the GnRH-10 (10.7 +/- 0.1 mm and 9.2 +/- 0.3 mm) treatment. Cross-sectional areas of luteal tissue and plasma concentrations of progesterone during the midluteal phase were greater (P < 0.05) in the SPON (3.62 +/- 0.2 cm2 and 6.4 +/- 0.3 ng/mL) than in the GnRH-10 (3.0 +/- 0.2 cm2 and 5.4 +/- 0.2 ng/mL) treatment. The conception rate to AI in the SPON (100%) treatment was greater (P < 0.05) than in the GnRH-10 (76%) treatment. The animal model used in this study resulted in unusually high conception rates and double ovulations. In conclusion, premature induction of the LH surge reduced the diameter of ovulatory follicle(s), the luteal function, and the conception rate to AI.  相似文献

The effect of induction of luteolysis by intramuscular treatment with prostaglandin F2α (PGF) on the frequency of double ovulations and formation of hemorrhagic anovulatory follicles (HAFs) was studied. The PGF (5 mg) was given 10 days after ovulation (n = 47 estrous cycles). No treatment or sham injection was used for control estrous cycles (n = 39). After treatment, the mares were scanned by transrectal ultrasonic imaging every 2 days until the largest follicle reached 25 mm and every day thereafter until the outcome of all follicles of at least 25 mm was determined. The frequency of two ovulations during the posttreatment ovulatory period was greater (P < .03) in the treated group (17%) than in the controls (3%). The combined frequency of two ovulations or one ovulation and one HAF also was greater (P < .002) in the treated group (30% vs. 5%). Equine veterinarians should be aware that PGF induction of luteolysis may increase the frequency of double ovulations or HAFs.  相似文献

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of a programme using oestradiol benzoate, progesterone and the prostaglandin-F2 (PG) analogue, cloprostenol, to synchronise oestrus and ovulation in dairy cows, compared with a programme using a gonadotropinreleasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, buserelin, and cloprostenol. METHODS: Twenty non-lactating dairy cows, at random stages of the oestrus cycle, were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatments. In Treatment 1 ( OPPG; n=10), cows were injected with 2 mg oestradiol benzoate intramuscularly (IM) plus 200 mg progesterone subcutaneously (SC) on Day 0, followed by 500 microg cloprostenol IM on Day 9 and 1 mg oestradiol benzoate on Day 10. In Treatment 2 (GPG; n=10), cows were injected with 10 microg buserelin IM on Day 0, 500 microg cloprostenol IM on Day 7 and 10 microg buserelin on Day 9. The ovaries of all cows were examined by ultrasonography, using an 8 MHz probe, from 5 days before the initial treatment until ovulation. Cows were observed for oestrus 3 times daily for 7 days after cloprostenol treatment. Blood samples were collected daily for determination of progesterone, and 6-hourly for 36 h after the second oestradiol or buserelin injection for the determination of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) concentrations. RESULTS: The percentage of cows observed in oestrus was higher in the OPPG group than in the GPG group (100% vs 55.6%, p=0.018). Treatment with either short-acting progesterone plus oestradiol benzoate or buserelin was followed by atresia or ovulation of the dominant follicle. Emergence of a new follicular wave occurred earlier (p>0.001) in the GPG group (2.2+/-0.2 days) than in the OPPG group (3.6+/-0.2 days). There was no significant difference between treatment groups in the variation of time of follicular wave emergence or size of the largest follicles at either the time of initial treatment (10.8+/-1.4 mm vs 11.1+/-0.8 mm), cloprostenol treatment (13.8+/-0.7 mm vs 14.0+/-1.3 mm) or of ovulation (15.4+/-0.7 mm vs 17.6+/-1.1 mm; p=0.10). The LH surge occurred sooner after the second injection of buserelin (4.0+/-1.0 h) than after the second injection of oestradiol benzoate (22.8+/-1.2 h; p>0.001). The interval between the second injection of oestradiol benzoate or buserelin and ovulation did not differ significantly between treatment groups (1.7+/-0.3 days vs 1.6+/-0.2 days; p=0.69). CONCLUSIONS: The use of short-term progesterone treatment, combined with oestradiol benzoate for follicular wave synchronisation, and cloprostenol to cause lysis of residual luteal tissue, is a promising alternative to established methods of oestrus synchronisation in cows.  相似文献

This study describes follicle dynamics, endocrine profiles in multiparous sows with lactational oestrus compared with conventionally weaned sows (C). Lactational oestrus was induced by Intermittent Suckling (IS) with separation of sows and piglets for either 12 consecutive hours per day (IS12, n = 14) or twice per day for 6 h per occasion (IS6, n = 13) from day 14 of lactation onwards. Control sows (n = 23) were weaned at day 21 of lactation. Pre-ovulatory follicles (> or =6 mm) were observed in 100% of IS12, 92% of IS6 and 26% of C sows before day 21 of lactation and in the remaining 74% C sows within 7 days after weaning. All sows with pre-ovulatory follicles showed oestrus, but not all sows showed ovulation. Four IS6 sows and one IS12 sow developed cystic follicles of which two IS6 sows partially ovulated. Follicle growth, ovulation rate and time of ovulation were similar. E(2) levels tended to be higher in IS sows (p = 0.06), the pre-ovulatory LH surge tended to be lower in IS12 (5.1 +/- 1.7 ng/ml) than in C sows (8.4 +/- 5.0 ng/ml; p = 0.08) and P(4) levels were lower in IS12 and IS6 than in C sows (at 75 h after ovulation: 8.8 +/- 2.4 ng/ml vs 7.0 +/- 1.4 ng/ml vs 17.1 +/- 4.4 ng/ml; p < 0.01). In conclusion, sows with lactational oestrus induced by IS are similar to weaned sows in the timing of oestrus, early follicle development and ovulation rates, but the pre-ovulatory LH surge and post-ovulatory P(4) increase are lower.  相似文献

Synchronization of the oestrous cycle of gilts using altrenogest treatment has been found to increase ovulation rate. The current experiment investigated if the increase in ovulation rate after altrenogest treatment is related to increased follicle size at the end of altrenogest treatment compared with late luteal phase follicles. Crossbred gilts (n = 15) received altrenogest during 18 days [20 mg Regumate (Janssen Animal Health, Beerse, Belgium)], starting 5-7 days after onset of first oestrus. Control gilts (n = 15) did not receive altrenogest. At days 10-12 of the oestrous cycle [i.e. in the presence of corpora lutea (CL)], average follicle development was 2.51 +/- 0.20 mm (assessed with ultrasound) in altrenogest-treated gilts and 2.58 +/- 0.16 mm in control gilts (p > 0.10). During the last days of altrenogest treatment (i.e. when CL had gone into regression), average follicle size had increased to 3.01 +/- 0.31 mm (p < 0.05). Subsequent ovulation rate was 16.6 +/- 1.7 in altrenogest treated gilts and 15.1 +/- 1.2 in control gilts (p < 0.05). Altrenogest treatment resulted in increased follicle size after regression of the CL, showing that suppression of follicle growth by altrenogest alone is less severe than suppression by endogenous progesterone (either with or without altrenogest). Altrenogest treatment also resulted in a higher ovulation rate. However, it is unclear if the increased follicle size and higher ovulation rate after altrenogest treatment are causally related, as the relation between the two on an animal level was not significant.  相似文献

Characteristics of regular and irregular ovarian events were studied by daily ultrasound examination in 102 non-bred mares. The mean diameter of the prevoluatory follicle on the day before a single ovulation was significantly higher in April (46 mm) and May (48 mm) than in July (40 mm). Diameter was also significantly different among single (44 mm), double unilateral (35 mm), and double bilateral (40 mm) preovulatory follicles. The incidence of apparent anovulation within the ovulatory season was 4.7%. All apparent anovulations involved filling of the follicle with blood (hemorrhagic follicles). The incidence of diestrous ovulations was 4%. Prolonged interovulatory intervals occurred in 6 of 69 (9%) intervals. In 2 intervals (30 and 33 days), both the luteal and follicular phases were prolonged and no structural ovarian or uterine irregularities were detected. Three prolonged intervals (34, 41, and 49 days) were associated with hemorrhagic follicles and 1 was associated with a late diestrous ovulation (47 days). The condition known as spontaneous persistence of the corpus luteum, which is thought to be common in nonpregnant mares, was not detected in any of 69 interovulatory intervals.  相似文献

We reported previously that passive immunization against inhibin enhances follicular growth and increases the ovulation rate. However, the ovulation rate was not comparable to the number of follicles. Therefore, the aim of this study was to attempt to increase the ovulation rate by increasing the interval between inhibin immunization and PGF2alpha injection. Five miniature Shiba goats were treated with 10 ml inhibin antiserum (inhibin-AS) developed against [Tyro30]-inhibin alpha (1-30). A control group (n=5) was treated with normal goat serum. All animals were injected intramuscularly with 125 microg PGF2alpha 72 h after treatment to induce estrus and ovulation. Blood samples were collected for hormonal assay and the ovulation rate was determined by laparotomy. In contrast to the control group, there was a significant increase in plasma concentrations of FSH in the immunized group. After luteolysis, plasma concentrations of estradiol-17beta increased markedly to a preovulatory peak about 2 folds higher (P<0.01) than that of controls. In addition, the ovulation rate was greater in the immunized group (14.4 +/- 2.2) than in the control group (2.2 +/- 0.6), and the mean number of follicles > or = 4 mm in diameter was 10.0 +/- 0.8 in the inhibin-AS group compared with 2.4 +/- 0.3 in control group. The present results demonstrate that immunoneutralization of endogenous inhibin increased FSH secretions in miniature shiba goats. The increased FSH secretion enhanced follicular growth and increased the ovulation rate. Additionally, increasing the interval between inhibin-AS and PGF2alpha injections (to 72 h) resulted in a greater ovulation rate compared with the previous protocol (48 h). Therefore, inhibin-AS treatment proved to be an effective alternative to exogenous gonadotropin methods for induction of superovulation in goats.  相似文献

Twenty-five 2-3-year-old cycling does weighing 17-25 kg were obtained from semi-nomadic farmers and managed under controlled conditions while simulating the traditional management system. Oestrus was synchronized using progestogen impregnated vaginal pessaries. Blood samples were collected daily for progesterone assay from the day of pessary withdrawal up to one complete oestrous cycle. Oestrus was checked twice daily using vasectomized bucks. Ovulation rate was determined by direct observation of the ovaries following laparotomy on day 5-7 of the oestrous cycle. Following oestrus synchronization, mean ovulation rate was 1.68 +/- 0.13. Mean oestrous cycle length and duration of oestrus were 21.30 +/- 0.28 days and 21.37 +/- 0.24 hours respectively. Plasma progesterone concentrations ranged from non-detectable levels on the day of oestrus to 5.2 +/- 0.28 ng ml at mid-cycle. The duration of elevated progesterone level (greater than 2 ng/ml) was about 12 days. The peak progesterone values did not differ between animals with different ovulation rates. However, the plasma progesterone concentration during the early cycle (days 0-6) was significantly lower in the single ovulators compared with others. There were no major differences in plasma progesterone levels during the oestrous cycle of Red Sokoto does with different ovulation rates.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to examine the follicular dynamics of five-eighths Girolando cows by observing the number of follicular development waves, days of emergence of those waves, diameters of the dominant and largest subordinate follicles and the processes of follicular selection and dominance. Ovarian follicle dynamics were monitored for 24 oestrous cycles in 12 cows, of 4 to 10 years of age, presenting regular oestrous cycles and with body scores between 3 and 4. Ovaries were observed daily for two consecutive oestrous cycles and follicles were measured with ultrasonographic equipment. The dominant follicle was considered to be that which presented a diameter ≥ 10 mm for three consecutive days and on the day of wave emergence, when a group of follicles measuring 3–5 mm in diameter would appear. Of the 24 cycles monitored, 62.5% presented two waves of follicular development and 37.5% presented three waves. The cycles presenting two waves had an average duration of 20 days, with the emergence of the waves on days 1 and 9, whereas the cycles presenting three waves had an average duration of 22 days, with emergences on days 1, 10 and 16. For cycles with two waves, both the first and second dominant follicles reached an average size of 13.8 mm, with the first regressing on day 10 and the second ovulating around day 20. For cycles with three waves, the dominant follicles of the first and second waves reached maximum diameters of 11.8 and 12 mm, respectively, with the first regressing on day 11 and the second regressing on day 17. The third dominant follicle reached a maximum diameter of 12.4 mm on day 20, and ovulated on day 22. These results lead to the conclusion that the follicular dynamics of five-eighths Girolando cows are characterized by the presence of two to three waves of follicular growth.  相似文献

The effect of short-term nutritional supplementation on hormonal and ovarian dynamics was studied in goats. Cycling Shiba goats were divided randomly into maintenance (group M, n=4) and high-energy (group H, n=4) groups. After the detection of the ovulation (Day 0, 1(st) ovulation), group H received a high-energy diet providing 2.5 times of the maintenance energy requirement for 7 days from Day 7 to Day 13 and were administered 2 mg of prostaglandin F(2alpha) (PGF(2alpha)) on Day 10 to induce luteal regression followed by the follicular phase. Follicular and luteal dynamics were monitored using ultrasonography daily or every other day, and blood samples were collected daily from Day 0 to the third ovulation (3(rd) ovulation) following the second ovulation (2(nd) ovulation) induced by PGF(2alpha) administration. Blood samples were also collected at 10-min intervals for 6 h on Day 9 and Day 11 for analysis of pulsatile LH secretion. The mean concentrations of glucose and insulin were significantly (P<0.05) higher in group H than in group M on Days 8, 9, 12, 13 and Days 8, 9 and 10, respectively. For both the 2(nd) and 3(rd) ovulations, no significant difference was detected in ovulation rate between groups M and H. On the other hand, the interpeak interval for wave-like patterns of FSH in group H was significantly (P<0.05) shorter than in group M during the period between the 1(st) and 2(nd) ovulations (4.3 +/- 0.3 vs. 6.5 +/- 1.5 days). The mean LH pulse frequency in group H was significantly (P<0.05) greater than in group M on Day 11 (4.5 +/- 0.6 vs. 3.3 +/- 0.5 pulses/6 h). The present study clearly demonstrated that short-term (7 days) nutritional supplementation promoted pulsatile LH and wave-like FSH secretions in cycling goats. However, no significant increase in ovarian performance was found under such endocrine and metabolic conditions.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to further investigate the effect of using progestin altrenogest and hCG to synchronize the oestrous cycle and its effect on follicular development, ovulation time and subsequent reproductive performance. Thirty crossbred gilts were divided into three groups. Group A (control) received a 5 ml of normal saline for 18 consecutive days by individually top-dressing. Groups B and C gilts received 20 mg (5 ml) of progestin altrenogest for 18 consecutive days by individually top-dressing. On day 3 (72 h) after withdrawal of progestin altrenogest, Group C gilts received hCG (500 IU, im). The follicular development and ovulation time were examined by transabdominal ultrasonography. Subsequent reproductive performances, i.e. number of total born per litter (NTB), number of live born per litter (NBA), number of stillbirth per litter (NSB), average piglet birth weight (ABW), lactation length (LL) and weaning to oestrous interval (WOI), were recorded. None of the gilts in Group A showed oestrus within 10 days after withdrawal of normal saline. Groups B (eight of 10) and C gilts (four of 10) came into oestrus at 5.6 +/- 0.5 and 6.5 +/- 0.6 days after withdrawal of progestin altrenogest, respectively. The ovulation time of Groups B and C gilts took placed at 25.0 +/- 4.7 and 25.0 +/- 5.0 h after standing oestrus, respectively. The pre-ovulatory follicular size (diameter) of Groups B and C gilts was 8.0 +/- 2.0 and 11.0 +/- 3.0 mm, respectively. A tendency of larger litter size (NTB) in Group B gilts was found when compared with Group A gilts. To conclude, using progestin altrenogest alone can be used to synchronize the oestrous cycle in gilts without unenthusiastic effect on the follicular development, ovulation time and subsequent reproductive performances. However, treatment of gilts with hCG at day 3 (72 h) after withdrawal of altrenogest had unenthusiastic effect on oestrus synchronization.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to evaluate the chronology of periovulatory events (oestrus behaviour, LH surge and ovulation) in 16 superovulated Manchega sheep and to determine whether follicular status at start of the FSH supply might affect their occurrence. Mean timing for onset of oestrus behaviour was detected at 28.1 +/- 0.7 h after sponge withdrawal; the preovulatory LH surge and ovulation started at 37.2 +/- 0.7 h and 65.4 +/- 0.7 h after progestagen withdrawal, respectively. The intervals between oestrus, LH surge and ovulation were affected by a high individual variability, which might be the cause for reported decreased efficiency in embryo production. Current results also addressed the role of follicular status at start of the superovulatory treatment on the preovulatory LH surge and the ovulation. The interval LH surge-ovulation was increased in ewes with a growing dominant follicle at starting the FSH treatment (32.3 +/- 0.9 vs 28.6 +/- 0.5 h, p < 0.05). The developmental stage of the largest follicle at starting the superovulatory treatment also affected occurrence of LH surge and ovulation; follicles in growing phase advanced the occurrence of the LH surge and ovulation when compared to decreasing follicles (33.0 +/- 1.0 vs 43.5 +/- 1.1 h, p < 0.05, for LH peak and 60.7 +/- 1.1 vs 72.8 +/- 1.2 h, p < 0.05, for ovulation). Thus, only ewes with growing follicles ovulated prior to 55 h after sponge withdrawal; conversely, no sheep with decreasing follicles ovulated earlier than 67 h, when an 85.7% of the ewes bearing growing follicles has ovulated at 63 h.  相似文献

Follicular estradiol triggers luteolysis in cattle. Therefore, the control of follicle growth and steroidogenesis is expected to modulate luteal function and might be used as an anti‐luteolytic strategy to improve embryo survival. Objectives were to evaluate follicular dynamics, plasma concentrations of estradiol and luteal lifespan in Bos indicus and crossbred cows subjected to sequential follicular aspirations. From D13 to D25 of a synchronized cycle (ovulation = D1), Nelore or crossbred, non‐pregnant and non‐lactating cows were submitted to daily ultrasound‐guided aspiration of follicles >6 mm (n = 10) or to sham aspirations (n = 8). Diameter of the largest follicle on the day of luteolysis (7.4 ± 1.0 vs 9.7 ± 1.0 mm; mean ± SEM), number of days in which follicles >6 mm were present (2.3 ± 0.4 vs 4.6 ± 0.5 days) and daily mean diameter of the largest follicle between D15 and D19 (6.4 ± 0.2 vs 8.5 ± 0.3 mm) were smaller (p < 0.01) in the aspirated group compared with the control group, respectively. Aspiration tended to reduce (p < 0.10) plasma estradiol concentrations between D18 and D20 (2.95 ± 0.54 vs 4.30 ± 0.55 pg/ml). The luteal lifespan was similar (p > 0.10) between the groups (19.6 ± 0.4 days), whereas the oestrous cycle was longer (p < 0.01) in the aspirated group (31.4 ± 1.2 vs 21.2 ± 1.3 days). Hyperechogenic structures were present at the sites of aspiration and were associated with increase in concentration of progesterone between luteolysis and oestrus. It is concluded that follicular aspiration extended the oestrous cycle and decreased the average follicular diameter on the peri‐luteolysis period but failed to delay luteolysis.  相似文献

Follicular development was examined by transrectal ultrasound scanning in 12 heifers during 51 oestrous cycles. Internal diameters of largest and second largest follicles and the number of smaller ovarian vesicles were determined. Diameters of dominant follicles showed inverse growth pattern to the second largest follicles and numbers of smaller follicles (greater than or equal to 5 mm). There was an increase in diameters of the largest follicles from beginning of dioestrous to day 9 and from time of luteolysis to ovulation, which was coincident which a decrease in diameters of the second largest follicles and numbers of smaller ovarian vesicles. Smaller follicles increased in count and diameter, when the dominant follicle achieved its largest dimension and started to regress. The cyclic corpus luteum had no local influence on diameters of the largest and second largest follicles in the ovary bearing the corpus luteum versus the contralateral ovary. Internal diameters of oestrous follicles measured 14.7 +/- 2.6 mm in heifers and 15.3 +/- 2.9 mm in cows at the day of oestrous (p greater than 0.05; t-test). Dioestrous follicles with similar size were detected during various stages of the oestrous cycle. The diameter of the dominant follicle is not an accurate criterion for determining the stage of the oestrous cycle.  相似文献

Sows occasionally show oestrous behaviour within 5 days of farrowing; this is termed post-partum oestrus (PPO). This study investigated the incidence and possible causes of PPO on nine Dutch farms. Lactation records (n=1374) were used, backfat thickness was measured (n=25), and ovarian condition was assessed by transrectal ultrasonography. The incidence of' PPO ranged from 0% to 62% on the different farms. On average, PPO started 59 hours after farrowing and lasted for 55 hours. Sows with PPO were younger than sows without PPO (parity 3.8 +/- 0.2 vs 4.4 +/- 0.1, respectively; P < 0. 05) and had more backfat than sows without PPO (21.3 +/- 1.2 vs 17.9 +/- 1.2 mm, respectively; P < 0.10). Occasionally, some follicle growth was observed in sows with PPO, but ovulation did not occur. PPO did not affect the weaning-to-mating interval or piglet mortality during lactation.  相似文献

The diameter of the preovulatory follicle (POF) and its effects on subsequent corpus luteum (CL) size and conception were studied in 38 lactating indigenous cycling buffaloes in the Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. Body condition score (BCS) at estrus was estimated for the buffaloes. The buffaloes were synchronized with two injections of a synthetic analogue of PGF2α administered 11 days apart. Transrectal ultrasonography was carried out at estrus and on days 5, 9, 12 and 16 post ovulation to determine the POF and successive CL size. Pregnancy was confirmed by ultrasound examination on day 40-45 post ovulation. Twenty one (55.3%) buffaloes were diagnosed as pregnant. The conception rates of thin (BCS ≤2.0), good (BCS 2.5-3.5) and fat (BCS glt;3.5) buffaloes were 7.7, 88.2 and 62.5% (χ2 = 19.54; P<0.05), respectively. The mean diameter of the POF at estrus was larger (P<0.01) in buffaloes that ultimately were diagnosed as pregnant compared with their nonpregnant counterparts (13.7 ± 0.3 vs. 11.2 ± 0.5 mm, respectively). The conception rates of buffaloes having small (9 to ≤ 12 mm), medium (>12 to ≤14 mm) and large (>14 to 16 mm) POFs at estrus were 9.1, 70.0 and 85.7% (χ2 = 13.87, P<0.01), respectively. On day 5 post ovulation, CL size was positively correlated (CL: r=.74, P<0.01) with POF diameter. Retrospective analysis revealed that on day 5 post ovulation, the pregnant buffaloes had higher (P<0.01) post ovulation CL sizes than their nonpregnant counterparts (15.6 vs. 11.8 mm). Similarly, on day 9 post ovulation, the difference in CL size (14.3 vs. 13.6 mm) between pregnant and nonpregnant buffaloes was significant (P<0.05). In conclusion, the diameter of the POF in buffaloes has a positive impact on the size of the post ovulation CL and conception.  相似文献

The effects of a low dose of equine purified FSH (eFSH) on incidence of multiple ovulations and embryo recovery rate in mares were studied. During the physiological breeding season in Brazil (19°45′45′S), 14 Mangalarga Marchador donor mares were used in a crossover study and another 25 mares of the same breed, between 3 years and 12 years of age were used as recipients for the embryo transfers. Donors were monitored during two consecutive oestrus cycles, an untreated control cycle followed by a treated cycle, when eFSH was administered. In both cycles, after an embryo collection attempt on day 8 post‐ovulation all mares received 7.5 mg dinoprost and had their two largest follicles tracked daily by ultrasonography until the period of ovulation. Mares were inseminated every 48 h with extended fresh semen from a single stallion after the identification of a 35‐mm follicle until the period of ovulation. Ovulations were induced by intravenous administration of 2.500 IU of human chorionic gonadotropin, upon detection of a 35‐ to 40‐mm follicle. In the treated cycle, 5 mg eFSH was given intramuscularly once a day, from day 8 post previous ovulation until at least one follicle reached 35 mm in diameter. Embryo flushes were performed on day 8 of dioestrus (day 0 = ovulation). Treatment with eFSH resulted in higher (p < 0.05) ovulation rate and incidence of multiple ovulations compared to the control (1.6 vs 1.0 and 50% vs 0%, respectively – one mare had triple ovulation). However, embryo recovery rates in the control and treated cycles were similar (0.8 and 1.0, respectively; p > 0.05). Pregnancy rates in the recipient mares following embryo transfer were similar for the control and eFSH cycles (11/11 and 10/14, respectively). Additional studies are necessary in order to develop a low‐dose protocol for the use of eFSH that brings a more consistent contribution to the efficiency of commercial equine embryo transfer programs.  相似文献
