ABSTRACT

As the recent and ongoing information revolution gradually turns traditional library materials into electronic formats, many agricultural resources have become available online. This selective Webliography covers the major online resources for studying and conducting research in agricultural economics and related fields and includes associations and organizations, databases and articles, dictionaries, directories and search engines, government agencies, industry outlooks, market information, statistics, working papers, news, prices, and miscellaneous resources. Web sites were selected based on the quality of the information and their importance to researchers in the various areas of agricultural economics. Most of the sources are free, with many of them being produced by U.S. government agencies.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Identifying the best source of information to satisfy the needs of local clientele has always been the challenge facing collection development and instruction librarians. In order to provide users with the best possible access tool and source for comprehensive information, it is important that librarians be aware of the most productive sources of information in a field. This paper identifies where the bulk of agricultural economics research is published and indexed. It also ascertains whether Google Scholar is as productive in covering this information as CAB Abstracts and EconLit. The cited reference counts for the top 50 cited sources in Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar are also compared. The scatter of the journal literature in this field, based on the Library of Congress Subject Headings, is also provided. The study identified a broad range of article scattering in areas where agricultural economics and agribusiness materials are published. On the cited reference count, Google Scholar was as productive as the Web of Knowledge. Google Scholar is a free source of very useful information for cited references and other subject searches in the area of agricultural economics and could be used to complement traditional databases.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

For more than six years, a multidisciplinary team at the University of Arizona, along with a variety of outside partners, have been developing a series of Web sites and Web modules on topics related to the management of western rangelands. This article describes collaborations that have led to the development of the Arizona Rangelands Web site. The site is organized around distinct modules that provide access to data and other information previously only available through agency or other technical specialists. Also described is a companion Web site, which provides a template for storage and retrieval of archived information central to the management of public land grazing allotments.  相似文献

间隙连接蛋白β2(GJB2)基因突变与遗传性非综合征性耳聋密切相关,其广泛的突变类型及特异性的热点突变被认为是一种独特的致聋基因。本研究应用生物信息学方法对17个物种的GJB2蛋白进行了系统发育、保守性、跨膜区结构、三维结构和错义突变的分析,并结合已有报道的实验结果进行关联性分析。分析预测获得了166个固定的氨基酸位点、2个非保守区以及2个空间结构保守位点;关联性分析证实发生在保守位点的突变致病性高,非保守区突变的概率致病性小,跨膜区且改变氨基酸性质的突变,可能影响蛋白的空间结构而改变膜通道的通透性。本文为进一步研究GJB2基因突变与聋病的关联性及分子发病机制提供了理论依据,同时,这种研究思路对其它疾病的相关研究具有一定的借鉴价值。  相似文献

Abstract

Nitrification in soil converts relatively immobile ammonium‐nitrogen (N) to highly mobile nitrate‐N (via nitrite), and this has implications for N‐use efficiency by agricultural systems as well as for environmental quality, especially in situations where the potential for loss of soil or added N is high following nitrate formation. The literature on various physical, environmental, and chemical factors and their interactions on nitrification in soil is reviewed and discussed with examples from natural and agro‐ecosystems. Among the various factors, soil matrix, water status, aeration, temperature, and pH have strong influence on nitrification. The information on factors that influence nitrification is useful when developing strategies for regulating nitrification in soils by employing chemical or biological nitrification inhibitors.  相似文献

Abstract

Yellow foxtail [Setaria pumila syn. Setaria glauca (L.) Beauv.] competitive influence on corn (Zea mays L.) growth and yield was investigated at Brookings, South Dakota, and Morris, Minnesota, in 1995 and 1996. Yellow foxtail was seeded at different densities, and at Morris, two levels of nitrogen (N) were applied. Corn biomass measured at V‐6 or V‐8, silking, and harvest and grain yield were correlated negatively to foxtail biomass and density, but the loss differed between years and sites. Nitrogen increased corn growth and decreased yield loss. Defining a single foxtail density or biomass that resulted in a maximum yield loss of 10% was not possible. The most conservative estimate was 3 yellow foxtail plants m?2 or 24 g m?2 of yellow foxtail biomass, but ranged up to 55 plants m?2 and 256 g m?2 when weather conditions and N were optimal.  相似文献

Purpose

Sediment dynamics in most large river basins are influenced by a variety of different natural and anthropogenic pressures, and disentangling these cumulative effects remains a challenge. This study determined the contemporary and historical sources of fine-grained (<?63-μm) sediment in a large, regulated river basin and linked changes in sources to activities in the basin. The river has seen declines in chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, and the endangered Nechako white sturgeon populations, and sediment (both fine-grained and sands) transport and deposition have been identified as potential causes of these declines.

Materials and methods

Samples of suspended sediment and potential source materials were collected from numerous sites distributed throughout the upper Nechako River Basin in British Columbia, Canada. A floodplain sediment core was also collected in order to reconstruct sediment sources over the last ~?70 years. Discriminating fingerprint properties were used within the MixSIAR model to apportion sources among sub-basins and land-use types. Results were compared to records of precipitation and Nechako River discharge trends, and to changes in landscape development.

Results and discussion

Contributions from the erosion of channel banks dominated the suspended sediment load at most sites. Changes in sediment sources during the 2015 field season reflected snowmelt and patterns of water release from the Nechako Reservoir that affected the sediment-carrying capacity of tributaries and the Nechako River main stem. Spatial variations in 2015 also reflected the distribution of land use (e.g., forested or agricultural land) as well as topography (e.g., slope steepness). Over the last ~?70 years, variations in sediment sources and the characteristics of the sediment (e.g., organic matter content and particle size composition) were linked to the construction of the Kenney Dam (operational in 1954) and the impacts of deforestation by the forestry and agricultural industries. Superimposed on these have been wildfires and a major mountain pine beetle infestation leading to higher erosion rates in the affected areas.

Conclusions

The sediment source fingerprinting technique, in combination with historical information on the hydrometeorology and the land use and river management in the basin, has provided valuable information with which to understand sediment dynamics in the Nechako River Basin. Such an approach can help to disentangle how large river systems respond to a combination of natural and anthropogenic pressures.

ABSTRACT

This paper reviews current developments that facilitate increased access to food science information, with examples from the Web, from search engine producers, and from disseminators and producers of specialised abstracting and indexing (A&I) databases. The diversity of developments is reviewed in the context of blogs, wikis, Facebook, YouTube, Connotea, and examples of increasing Web access with Google Scholar and Windows Live Search Academic are provided. Examples of A&I search platform developments which are discussed include CSA Illustrata, EBSCOhost visual search, and ISI Web of Knowledge. A simple case study is included which indicates user preferences for search engines, databases, and search interface features for accessing food science information. It is concluded that information providers are successfully using a number of development strategies designed to help the food science information community with its needs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Libraries have often played a major role in preserving our agricultural heritage. Many special libraries have helped to assemble the agricultural literature, much of which is in formats traditionally difficult to collect and maintain, particularly those of agricultural significance. This paper presents a brief overview of the changing nature of agricultural communications and how units within special libraries, such as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Agricultural Communications Documentation Center (ACDC), play an important role in the creation, dissemination, and archiving of this vital information. Other specialized collections and services, such as the materials of The National Association of Farm Broadcasters (NAFB) and the Agriculture Network Information Center (AgNIC) will also be discussed.  相似文献

太行山前平原农田生态系统氮素循环与平衡研究   总被引:17,自引:0,他引:17  
在中国科学院栾城生态农业试验站1公顷小麦玉米轮作农田,运用乙炔抑制原状土柱培育法、微气象学法和陶土头多孔杯水量平衡法分别定量测定了氮素硝化反硝化损失、氨挥发、NO3--N淋溶损失等氮素循环转化途径。研究结果表明,每年因氨挥发而造成的肥料氮损失量为N.60.kg/hm2,占施入肥料氮的15%;NO3--N淋溶损失量为N.68~4.kg/hm2,占肥料施用量的1.4%2~0.3%;每年因硝化反硝化过程造成的肥料损失量为N.2.021~0.49.kg/hm2,占肥料施入量的0.51%1~.37%。氨挥发、NO3--N淋溶和硝化反硝化损失主要发生在施肥灌溉/降雨之后,玉米季肥料损失明显高于小麦生长季节。氨挥发和NO3--N淋溶损失是本区域农田氮素损失的主要途径,是氮肥利用率低的重要原因。在当地农民所采用的常规农业管理措施下,小麦玉米轮作农田氮素平衡处于盈余状态,小麦季盈余N+115.5~+124.5.kg/hm2,明显高于玉米季;由于玉米季氮素损失严重,氮素盈余较少,甚至出现亏缺,玉米季氮素平衡状况为-54.6~+14.3.kg/hm2。  相似文献

Purpose

Sediment fingerprinting is increasingly being used to improve the understanding of sediment dynamics within the critical zone and provide information that can help guide management decisions at the watershed scale. The objectives of this study were to investigate both the implications of different sediment fingerprinting sampling designs and spatial scales on the characterization of sediment dynamics in a predominantly agricultural watershed in northwestern New Brunswick, Canada.

Materials and methods

Color and radionuclide fingerprints were used to discriminate between three potential sediment sources: agricultural topsoil, agricultural streambanks, and forested areas (topsoil and streambanks). Suspended sediment was collected seasonally, between 2008 and 2014, at five sites with drainage areas ranging from 3.0 to 13.4 km2. Using the same source and sediment data set, multiple-, nested-, and local-location fingerprinting sampling designs were employed to investigate the influence of scale of observation, geomorphic connectivity, land use, and the heterogeneity of source fingerprints on apportionment results.

Results and discussion

Sediment collected in the headwaters was primarily derived from forested areas while the sediment collected at the outlet of the watershed was primarily from agricultural topsoil. When comparing the multiple- and nested-location designs, it was found that accounting for the spatial variability in the fingerprint properties of each source had a small difference in the sediment apportionment results. Furthermore, the local-location design demonstrated that the sediment collected at each location was composed of predominately local sources as opposed to upstream sediment entering the local catchment.

Conclusions

Assessment of the sources of sediment at a range of spatial scales better accounts for both geomorphic connectivity and differences in land use throughout the watershed. Overall, each of the three fingerprinting sampling designs provided different information that can be used to guide soil and water conservation management.

[目的]划定县级以上水土流失重点防治区,指导水土保持措施的科学制定和提高水土流失防治成效。[方法]在参加国家水土流失重点防治区复核划分工作和完成陕西省水土流失重点防治区划分工作的基础上,通过调查及分析研究,提出了土壤侵蚀强度、林草覆盖度和水土流失治理度等定量指标和江河源头、引水水源、基本农田等保护区的定性指标。[结果]利用GIS和RS技术,以乡镇行政区划为基本单元,按照定量指标,解译遥感影像数据,生成了陕西省水土流失重点防治区划分成果图。利用定性指标,按照相对集中连片,突出重点,适当概化的原则,对划分成果进行了归类修正。以地貌类型为主线,并参照水土保持功能,对水土流失重点防治区进行了分类和命名。[结论]陕西省划分为6个水土流失重点预防区和6个水土流失重点治理区共计12个大片区,是编制《陕西省水土保持规划》、规范生产建设项目中水土保持监督工作的重要依据,也为市县级水土流失重点防治区的划分提供参考。  相似文献

Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) substantially contributes to N leaching from forest ecosystems. However, little is known about the role of DON for N leaching from agricultural soils. Therefore, the aim of our study was to quantify the contribution of DON to total N leaching from four agricultural soils. Concentrations and fluxes of DON and mineral N were monitored at two cropped sites (Plaggic Anthrosols) and two fallow plots (Plaggic Anthrosol and Gleyic Podzol) from November 1999 till May 2001 by means of glass suction plates. The experimental sites were located near the city of Münster, NW Germany. Median DON concentrations in 90 cm depth were 2.3 mg l—1 and 2.0 mg l—1 at the cropped sites and 1.6 mg l—1 and 1.3 mg l—1 at the fallow sites. There was only a slight (Anthrosols) or no (Gleyic Podzol) decrease in median DON concentrations with increasing depth. Total N seepage was between 19 kg N ha—1 yr—1 and 46 kg N ha—1 yr—1 at the fallow sites and 16—159 kg N ha—1 yr—1 at the cropped sites. For the fallow plots, DON seepage contributed 10—21 % to the total N flux (4—5 kg DON ha—1 yr—1), at the cropped sites DON seepage was 6—21 % of the total N flux (6—10 kg DON ha—1 yr—1). Thus, even in highly fertilized agricultural soils, DON is a considerable N carrier in seepage that should be considered in detailed soil N budgets.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of initial C/N ratio (16.3, 19.1, 24.1, and 29.6) on decomposition rate and nitrogen loss during the composting of pig manure and edible fungus residue with rice bran. The results showed that all composting piles reached a temperature greater than 55°C for at least 7 days (which meets the requirements for destroying pathogens), and the maturity times of composts with low initial C/N ratios were shorter than in composts with high initial C/N ratios. The nitrogen loss in the composting pile with initial C/N of 16.3 was significantly higher than the other treatments. Furthermore, the statistics analysis showed that the initial C/N ratios of the composts, which varied from 16.3 to 29.6, had a significant negative linear correlation with the loss of total organic matter (R = ?0.9661) and loss of total nitrogen (R = ?0.9365). Therefore, for treating more agricultural wastes and achieving high-quality final product as well as the reduction of nitrogen losses, this study recommends that initial C/N ratios ranging from 20 to 25 are suitable for composting pig manure and edible fungus residue.

Various agricultural wastes can be successfully composted with initial C/N ratios 16:1–30:1.

Nitrogen loss had a significant linear negative correlation with the initial C/N ratio.

Many successful Extension programs depend on the knowledge and expertise of volunteer Master Gardeners. It is important that Master Gardeners take advantage of research-based information and tips and tricks to finding quality information on the Web. This article outlines a successful cooperative project in which segments of a traditional classroom instruction session for Master Gardeners were modified into tutorials. ABSTRACT

This study assessed farmers' utilization of agricultural information on Ere Agbe radio broadcasts in the Oke-Ogun Area of Oyo State. Data were collected on appropriateness, utilization of agricultural information, and constraints to access, from 160 farmer-listeners using an interview schedule. The appropriateness of information was low (51.9%); 47.5% utilized information highly; irregular power supply (M = 1.3125) was the main constraint to information access. The perceived appropriateness (r = .89, p ≤ .05) and constraints faced (r = ?0.29, p ≤ .05) were significantly related to utilization of agricultural information. Broadcasts should address farmers' needs, while cheap, alternative power sources should be explored.  相似文献

农业生产过程所产生的温室气体在全球生产活动温室气体排放总量中占有很大比例,因此对农业温室气体的排放量进行测算并分析其影响因素,对实现农业节能减排有重要意义。本文基于1993―2011年中国农业生产的相关统计数据,借鉴前人关于农业生产中各种温室气体排放源排放系数的研究成果,测算了中国农业生产过程中的CH4、N2O和CO2排放量,并分析了影响因素。结果表明,CH4排放量基本平稳波动不大,N2O排放量从1993年的93.21万t波动增加到2011年的120.51万t,农业生产资料CO2排放量由15 626.98万t增加到31 258.10万t。种植业CO2排放主要分为土壤排放和生产资料排放,土壤CO2排放与大气温度、土壤温度、地表温度和土壤水分有关,生产资料CO2排放主要是由化肥和农药造成的;种植业CH4、N2O排放原因较为复杂,还有待进一步研究;动物肠道发酵CH4、N2O排放的影响因素主要取决于动物种类、饲料特性、饲养方式和粪便管理方式等。  相似文献

Accumulation of inorganic and labile organic phosphorus (P) in intensive agricultural systems leads to P loss from soil which can cause serious environmental problems. Soil microbes are important in mobilizing soil non-available P, however, little is known about the role of soil microbes in immobilizing P to reduce P loss. Here, we test whether stimulating microbial biomass to immobilize P could reduce the amount of labile P available for leaching. The distribution characteristics of Olsen P, organic P and microbial biomass P were determined in three intensive agricultural systems. In addition, we conducted a pot experiment with three P and four carbon (C) levels. CaCl2 extractable P was measured and used to indicate the risk of P leaching. We found that there was a positive relationship between soil organic C and microbial biomass P. Carbon addition drove the process of P immobilization and reduced CaCl2 extractable P. Microbial biomass P increased by 64% (< .05) with the addition of C, and Olsen P and CaCl2 extractable P decreased by 28% and 17%, respectively. Our results show that C addition increased microbial immobilization of P and reduced forms of labile P susceptible to leaching. Stimulating microbes to immobilize P by adding C to soils may have the potential to reduce P loss from intensive agricultural systems, reducing their environmental impact.  相似文献
