Mutagenic/carcinogenic heterocyclic amines (HAs) are formed in the crust during the cooking of meat. The influence of cooking loss, time, and temperature on the formation of HAs was investigated in fried beefburgers. 2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), and 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (4,8-DiMeIQx) were identified in all samples. The amounts of PhIP, MeIQx, and 4,8-DiMeIQx increased with increasing cooking time, and this effect was significant for all three HAs. The pan temperature had a significant effect on the formation of PhIP and 4,8-DiMeIQx. The addition of NaCl/sodium tripolyphosphate to the beefburgers reduced the cooking loss and decreased the formation of PhIP, MeIQx, and 4,8-DiMeIQx. This decrease was significant for MeIQx and 4,8-DiMeIQx. The results clearly show that it is possible to modify cooking practices to minimize the formation of HAs.  相似文献

Natural extracts have attracted considerable attention for development into effective inhibitors against the formation of genotoxic heterocyclic amines (HAs) in processed foods. In this study, four fruit extracts (apple, elderberry, grape seed, and pineapple) were evaluated for their effects on HA formation in fried beef patties. Apple and grape seed extracts were found to be the most effective in both the degree of inhibition in the formation of individual HAs (2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo [4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (4,8-DiMeIQx), and 2-amino-1-methyl-6-henylimidazo [4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP)) and in the reduction of total HA content (approximately 70% relative to the control). Activity-guided analysis of apple extract using model systems (PhIP- and MeIQx-producing models) showed that the proanthocyanidins, phloridzin and chlorogenic acid were responsible for reducing the amount of HAs formed. Proanthocyanidins were identified as the dominant inhibitors because they were strongly active against HA formation in both the PhIP and MeIQx model systems. For phloridzin, the inhibitory effect was observed only on the formation of PhIP. In contrast, chlorogenic acid, although effective against the formation of MeIQx, significantly enhanced the formation of PhIP. This is the first report showing the inhibitory activities of apple phenolics on the formation of heterocyclic amines. The findings provide valuable information for the development of effective strategies to minimize HA content of cooked meats and to identify several new natural products that may have new applications in the food industry.  相似文献

The influence of the addition of carbohydrates with different physicochemical properties on weight loss and formation of heterocyclic amines (HAs) during the frying of beef burgers was examined. Furthermore, the capability of carbohydrates to bind HAs was tested. Beef burgers containing 1.5% NaCl and 0.3% tripolyphosphate (reference), with the addition of 1.5% carbohydrate, were fried for 5 min at 200 degrees C in a double-sided pan fryer. The beef burgers were analyzed for HAs with solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. 2-Amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (4,8-DiMeIQx), 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenyl-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), and 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole (Norharman) were detected in all of the beef burgers. The addition of carbohydrates affected both the weight loss and the formation of HAs during cooking. The formation of HAs could be correlated to depend on both the weight loss and the type of the added carbohydrate. Of the 11 different carbohydrates tested, raw potato starch was most capable of inhibiting the formation of HAs, while potato fiber gave the lowest weight loss and a comparably low amount of PhIP. Wheat bran and potato fiber were found to reversibly bind HAs. It is concluded that adding small amounts of certain carbohydrates may be a simple and effective way of reducing the amount of HAs and can easily be applied in households and commercial preparations of beef burgers.  相似文献

A tandem solid-phase extraction method was used to isolate carcinogenic heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) from cooked meats. The following 10 HAAs were identified by HPLC/ESI-MS/MS: 2-amino-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (2-AalphaC), 2-amino-3-methyl-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (MeAalphaC), 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (IQx), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (8-MeIQx), 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (4,8-DiMeIQx), 2-amino-3,7,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (7,8-DiMeIQx), 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), 2-amino-1,7,9-trimethylimidazo[4,5-g]quinoxaline (7,9-DiMeIgQx), and 2-amino-1-methylimidazo[4,5-b]quinoline (IQ[4,5-b]); the latter HAA has not previously been reported in cooked meats. The concentrations of these HAAs ranged from <0.03 to 15 ppb in cooked meats and poultry, to 75 ppb in cooked beef extract, and to 85 ppb in grill scrapings. The product ion scan mode was used to confirm the identities of these HAAs. Six other compounds were detected that appear to contain the N-methylimidazoquinoxaline skeleton on the basis of their product ion spectra, and these compounds are probable isomers of IQx, 8-MeIQx, and DiMeIQx. A number of known HAAs and novel HAAs of unknown genotoxic potential are formed at appreciable levels in cooked meats.  相似文献

Mutagenic heterocyclic amines (HAs) are formed at low levels during cooking of meat and fish, and some of them are considered to be possible human carcinogens. The formation of HAs may be affected by the presence of synthetic or naturally occurring antioxidants. In the present study the effect of virgin olive oil (VOO) phenolic compounds, identified and quantified by LC-MS, on the formation of HAs in a model system was evaluated. An aqueous solution of creatinine, glucose, and glycine was heated in the presence of two samples of VOO differing only in the composition of phenolic compounds. The addition of VOO to the model system inhibited the formation of 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (IQx), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), and 2-amino-3,7,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (DiMeIQx) by between 30 and 50% compared with the control. Fresh-made olive oil, which contained a high amount of dihydroxyphenylethanol derivatives, inhibited HA formation more than a 1-year-old oil did. The inhibition of HA formation was also verified using phenolic compounds extracted from VOO.  相似文献

The Zhongdian swamp meadow in Zhongdian, China is well known as “Shangri-la”, where the peat has never been studied for its potential to interact with pollutants. Humic acid (HA) was extracted from Zhongdian peat using two methods, namely sodium pyrophosphate extraction (SPE) and dilute base extraction (DBE), and characterized for its functional groups and sorption property. The HAs extracted by both methods contained several active functional groups and had large external specific surface areas. The adsorption mechanism of methylene blue onto HAs was interpreted as Langmuir sorption. SPE-HA showed higher sorption capacity because of its larger specific surface area, whereas the extraction yield of DBE-HA was twice that of SPE-HA. Kinetics modeling indicated that the sorption of methylene blue was a two-component first order reaction. The component with the higher rate constant also showed higher sorption capacity. No pH effect was observed for methylene blue sorption on HA in our experimental design, and the sorption decreased as the temperature increased.  相似文献

A recently developed HPTLC/UV-FLD method was compared to the routinely used HPLC/UV-FLD method for the quantification of heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAA) formed at trace levels during the heating process of meat. For formation of these process contaminants under normal cooking conditions, beef patties were fried in a double-contact grill at 230 degrees C for five different frying times and extracted by solid-phase extraction. The HAAs most frequently found, that is, 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5- b]pyridine (PhIP), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5- f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5- f]quinoxaline (4,8-DiMeIQx), 9 H-pyrido[3,4- b]indole (norharman), and 1-methyl-9 H-pyrido[3,4- b]indole (harman), were quantified by two chromatographic methods, which were orthogonal to each other (normal versus reversed phase system). Both methods showed a similar performance and good correlation of the results ( R (2) between 0.8875 and 0.9751). The comparison of running costs and run time in routine analysis proved HPTLC/UV-FLD to be more economical (factor of 3) and faster (factor of 4) due to its capability of parallel chromatography. The HAA findings calculated by standard addition increased with the heating time from <1 to 33 microg/kg related to 3-6 min of frying time. The precision (RSD) was between 7 and 49% (HPTLC) and between 5 and 38% (HPLC) at these very low HAA levels formed.  相似文献

根据OECD Guideline106批平衡实验,研究了诺氟沙星在胡敏酸上的吸附热力学和动力学,并探讨了其可能吸附机理。结果表明,诺氟沙星在经过约12h的快速吸附阶段后,进入缓慢吸附阶段,其吸附平衡时间为48h。伪二级动力学方程能够较好地描述不同pH条件下诺氟沙星在胡敏酸上的吸附动力学特性。诺氟沙星在胡敏酸上的吸附等温线符合Freundlich方程,该方程的拟合系数1/n〈0.5,表明诺氟沙星在胡敏酸上为非线性吸附。ΔH0=-48.85kJ·mol-1和ΔG0〈0,表明诺氟沙星在胡敏酸上的吸附是自发进行的放热过程,且离子交换是其主要吸附机理,同时也可能存在着偶极间作用力、氢键力和电荷转移等吸附机理;ΔS0〈0表明吸附过程中熵在减小。吸附位点的能量随着吸附量的增大而降低,也表明胡敏酸的异质性和吸附的非线性。  相似文献

Both epidemiological and experimental data indicate that a diet rich in fiber may reduce cancer risk. One possible mechanism is by adsorbing carcinogens and transporting them out of the body without metabolic activation. We investigated the role of fiber lignification and feruloylation on the adsorption of four of the most relevant heterocyclic aromatic amines in food: 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), and 2-amino-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (AalphaC). Adsorption experiments, under conditions mimicking the small intestine, were carried out using nonlignified and artificially lignified primary maize walls with defined lignin and ferulate/diferulate concentrations and defined lignin compositions. Lignin concentration and composition both influenced the adsorption of heterocyclic aromatic amines, especially the more hydrophobic types. Heterocyclic aromatic amine adsorption increased with lignin concentration. 2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine and 2-amino-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole were better adsorbed by guaiacyl-rich lignins, 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline by syringyl-rich lignins, whereas the adsorption of 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline was not clearly influenced by lignin composition. Nonlignified cell walls adsorbed lesser amounts of heterocyclic aromatic amines. Variations in cell wall feruloylation had no effect on heterocyclic aromatic amine adsorption.  相似文献

Genotoxic heterocyclic amines (HAs) are formed via the Maillard reaction and free radical reaction mechanisms when meat or fish is cooked at usual cooking conditions. In this paper, the effect of the addition of red wine was tested to study if it interferes in HA formation. Fried chicken breast was the food item chosen, and three different red wines, characterized in terms of grape varieties, free amino acids, antioxidant properties, and metallic composition, were used to marinate meat prior to the heating process. Unmarinated samples and samples marinated with an ethanol-water mixture provided reference HA levels. The frying experiments were performed under well-controlled temperature and time conditions. The samples were analyzed for HA content using solid-phase extraction and LC-MS/MS. DMIP, PhIP, MeIQx, 4,8-DiMeIQx, IFP, TMIP, harman, and norharman were identified in fried chicken breast. Red wine marinades were found to reduce the formation of some of the HAs formed. PhIP, with a reduction of up to 88%, was the most minimized amine, although the formation of harman was enhanced.  相似文献

Nonlinear isotherms were observed for sorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to humic materials, but the exact sorption mechanism is not clearly understood. This study aimed to investigate the sorption of PAHs by compost humic materials. Humic acids (HAs) were progressively extracted from two compost samples by a 0.1-M sodium pyrophosphate solution. Sorption of phenanthrene by the extracted HAs was studied with a batch equilibration technique. Competitive sorption between pyrene and phenanthrene in the HAs was also examined. Elemental analysis and solid-state 13C NMR were used to characterize HAs. All sorption isotherms were nonlinear although these samples contained little black carbons if any. Isotherm linearity increased with increasing number of extractions. Isotherm nonlinearity was negatively related to HA aliphaticity. Addition of pyrene to the phenanthrene-HA system increased isotherm linearity. Competition between phenanthrene and pyrene sorption was more pronounced in the first fraction of HAs with a higher content of aromatic moieties. This study showed that humic materials alone could lead to nonideal sorption for PAHs.  相似文献

Antimutagens from gaiyou (Artemisia argyi Levl. et Vant., Compositae) were examined. The methanol extract prepared from aerial parts of this plant strongly reduced the mutagenicity of 3-amino-1-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-2), when Salmonella typhimurium TA98 was used in the presence of the rat liver microsomal fraction. The antimutagens were purified chromatographically while monitoring the antimutagenic activity against Trp-P-2 with a modified Ames test employing a plate method. This purification resulted in the isolation of four strong antimutagens, 5,7-dihydroxy-6,3',4'-trimethoxyflavone (eupatilin), 5, 7,4'-trihydroxy-6,3'-dimethoxyflavone (jaceosidin), 5,7, 4'-trihydroxyflavone (apigenin) and 5,7, 4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavone (chrysoeriol) from the methanol extract. These antimutagenic flavones exhibited strong antimutagenic activity against not only Trp-P-2 but also against other heterocyclic amines, such as 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido[4, 3-b]indole (Trp-P-1), 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), 2-amino-3,4-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (MeIQ), 2-amino-3, 8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx) and 2-amino-3-methyl-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (MeA(alpha)C) in S. typhimurium TA98. In contrast, they did not exhibit antimutagenic activity against benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4-NQO), 2-aminofluorene (2-AF), 2-nitrofluorene (2-NF) or furylfuramide (AF-2) in S. typhimurium TA98, or B[a]P, 4-NQO, 2-NF, AF-2, N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) or sodium azide (SA) in Salmonella typhimurium TA100, whereas they decreased the mutagenicity caused by aflatoxin B(1) (AFB(1)) and 2-aminoanthracene (2-AA) in both of these tester strains. Regarding the structure-activity relationship, the tested flavones had distinct differences in the intensities of their antimutagenic activities according to the differences of their substitution patterns. Namely, the intensity of antimutagenic activities against Trp-P-2 decreased in the order of: 5,7,3',4'-tetrasubstituted flavones (IC(50): <0.1 mmol/plate), 5,7,4'-trisubstituted flavones (IC(50): 0.120-0.260 mmol/plate), 5,6,7,3',4'-pentasubstituted flavones (IC(50): 0.440-0. 772 mmol/plate). The four isolated flavones were also studied regarding their antimutagenic mechanisms with preincubation methods of the modified Ames test and emission spectroscopic analysis. The results suggested that all isolated flavones were desmutagens which directly inactivated Trp-P-2 or inhibited its metabolic activation.  相似文献

Abstract

Heavy metal pollution of soils and water is a serious environmental problem. Sorption onto solid surfaces from aqueous solutions is an important process influencing transport and accumulation of heavy metals in the environment. Lead (Pb) sorption in smectite SWy‐2 was investigated by equilibrium sorption studies, coupled with spectroscopic methods. The isotherm and pH‐edge of lead sorption in the smectite were measured in batch experiments. The sorption isotherms under uncontrolled pH were best‐fitted with the Langmuir equation, while those with a fixed pH 5.5 were best‐fitted with the Freundlich equation. The pH‐edge of lead sorption shifted to a higher pH as the Pb concentration increased. The ionic strength only affected Pb sorption in the low pH range. The effects of associated nitrate and perchlorate anions were significant only for the Pb sorption at high Pb concentration (>2 mM). FTIR and XRD spectroscopies were performed with oriented clay samples. In the infrared spectra, apeak with a maximum near 1398 cm‐1 and a shoulder centered near 1470 cm‐1 was significant for the samples treated with >1 mM Pb at pH >5.6. This peak may be composed of several IR bands, including an OH bending band from Pb hydroxides and CO3 2‐ stretching bands from Pb carbonates. The basal spacing of Pb‐treated smectites increased with increasing Pb content in the clay and correlated well with the intensity of OH bending band (around 1621 cm‐1) of adsorbed water. The increase of basal spacing at low pH (pH <3.3) was poorly correlated with the intensity of water OH bending band. The comprehensive studies provided many evidences for revealing the structure of various lead complexes on clay surfaces.  相似文献

This study aimed at evaluating and comparing the removal of arsenic from solutions by a low-cost waste-based sorbent, produced by pyrolysing sewage sludge under appropriate conditions, and by a commercially activated carbon. Batch sorption experiments were performed under isothermal conditions (20°C), in order to evaluate the effect of pH on the arsenic sorption kinetics and on the equilibrium sorption capacity of the materials under study. Kinetic data revealed that the arsenic sorption was faster onto the activated carbon than onto the pyrolysed sludge. The sorption process was well described by both the pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order kinetics equations for both materials. Changes in the initial solution pH have distinct effects on the removal of arsenic onto pyrolysed sludge and activated carbon. While for pyrolysed sludge, pH affects essentially the equilibrium time, for activated carbon it affects the sorption capacity. Equilibrium results were well described by both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models, although fittings corresponding to the Langmuir isotherm were slightly better. The Langmuir maximum sorption capacity determined for the pyrolysed sludge was 71???g?g?1, while for activated carbon was 229???g?g?1. Despite the relative lower capacity of the pyrolysed sludge, the considerable lower cost and the valorisation of the sludge may justify further research on its use for water decontamination.  相似文献

The sorption of metal ions (Pb2+, Zn2+ and Cu2+) and soil humic acids (HA) from aqueous solutions onto mineral particles (sand, calcite and clay) was investigated using a batch equilibrium system. The sorption reactions in two- component systems (heavy metals-mineral particles and humic acids- mineral particles), as well as interactions in three-component system (heavy metals-humic acids-mineral particles) were examined. Results showed that the presence of humic acids, dissolved or bound onto mineral surfaces, considerably influenced the fixation of heavy metals. The various effects, depending on mineral type, humic concentration and specific metal-ion, were observed in three- component system. Sorption of Cu2+-ions on all minerals studied rapidly increased as the concentration of dissolved HA increased. The amount of Pb2+-ions sorbed on sand slightly decreased, while on kaolin increased between 15 and 20%. Sorption of Zn2+-ions on all minerals studied decreased at pH 4. At pH 5.5 the sorption of Zn2+-ions onto calcite decreased, while on kaolin and sand increased as a function of the humic acid concentration giving the curve with maximum at c(HA) = 2.5 mmol C L-1. At pH 6.5 sorption onto kaolin and sand increased. This effect occurs as a result of the conditional stability constant of Zn-HA complexes increasing at higher pH which in turn promotes the chelation of Zn2+-ions to mineral- bound humic substances. The enhanced sorption of metal ions from the aqueous phase in three-component systems is not only the result of mineral sorption of free metals but also the result of chelation with HA sorbed on the mineral surface.  相似文献

In this study, lead (Pb) and antimony (Sb) sorption experiments were conducted to elucidate the mechanisms of Pb and Sb sorption by combined applications using single or combined applications of hydroxyapatite (HAP) and ferrihydrite (FH), to evaluate the contribution of each material in Pb and Sb sorption, and to assess the chemical stability of the sorbed Pb and Sb. In the combined application, isotherms of Pb sorption and Sb sorption were well fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, respectively. The Pb and Sb amounts sorbed in the combined application were the same levels as the summed totals of those sorbed in the single applications, indicating that in the combined application, Pb sorption and Sb sorption were not suppressed. Pb was mainly sorbed on HAP in the combined application, at a 90 % level of the total adsorbed Pb. The HAP and FH contributions to Sb sorption were 32 and 68 % of the total adsorbed Sb, respectively, and Sb was sorbed on each material independently even in the combined application. The percentages of both Pb and Sb dissolved from the sorbed materials in the combined applications at pH 4 and 6 were the same levels as those in the single applications. However, the percentages of Sb dissolved in both combined and single applications were high at an alkaline pH. These results suggest that HAP and FH in a combined application would be useful for simultaneous Pb and Sb immobilization in soil with acidic to neutral pH, but not in soil with an alkaline pH.  相似文献

The adsorption of three s-triazines (atrazine, terbutylazine, and simazine) on three different humic acids (HAs), before and after acidic hydrolysis, was studied at four diverse pH values from 3 to 4.5. The Freundlich sorption affinity (K(f)) and intensity (1/n) of s-triazines were related to the chemical and structural composition of HA and used in a multivariate statistical analysis. At low pH, the sorption values for s-triazines were not directly justified by the content of carboxyl groups in original HA, while only an increase of phenolic carbons in hydrolyzed HA supported the increased s-triazine adsorption. The structural composition of both s-triazines and humic samples explained 86% of the significance in multivariate analyses, whereas the role of pH remained hidden in only 14% of the statistical significance. Adsorption of s-triazines was mainly related to carbon content, hydrophobicity, and aromaticity of HA, thereby implying a predominant binding role of weak dispersive forces. Steric properties explained the larger adsorption affinity of atrazine and terbutylazine with respect to simazine. The occurrence of charge-transfer interactions between atrazine and mainly hydrolyzed HA was further suggested by the increased number of free radicals detected in atrazine-HA complexes at different pH values. Charge-transfer interactions were postulated to occur when HA conformations became progressively controlled by aromatic components. This work indicates that humic matter rich in hydrophobic and aromatic constituents is more likely to adsorb s-triazines and reduce their environmental mobility.  相似文献

Knowledge of phosphorus(P) sorption dynamics across different soil types could direct agronomic and environmental management of P. The objective of this study was to predict P isotherm parameters for a national soil population using data of routine laboratory tests. Langmuir and Freundlich sorption parameters were calculated from two different ranges(0–25 and 0–50 mg P L~(-1)) using an archive of representative agricultural soil types from Ireland.Multiple linear regression(MLR) identified labile forms of aluminium(Al) and iron(Fe), organic matter(OM), cation exchange capacity(CEC), and clay as significant drivers. Langmuir and Freundlich sorption capacities, Freundlich affinity constant, and Langmuir buffer capacity were predicted reliably, with R~2 of independent validation 0.9. Sorption isotherm parameters were predicted from P sorbed at a single concentration of 50 mg P L~(-1)(S_(50)). An MLR prediction of P sorption maximum in the 0–50 mg P L~(-1) range was achieved, to an accurate standard, using S_(50), OM, and Mehlich-3 Fe(R~2 of independent calibration and validation being 0.91 and 0.95, respectively). Using Giles' four shapes of isotherms(C, L, H, and S), L non-strict-and C-shaped isotherm curves accounted for 64% and 27% of the soils, respectively. Hierarchical clustering identified a separation of isotherm curves influenced by two ranges of Mehlich-3 Al. Soils with a low range of Mehlich-3 Al(2.5–698 mg kg~(-1)) had no incidence of rapid sorption(C shape). Single point indices, Al, or available soil data make the regression approach a feasible way of predicting Langmuir parameters that could be included with standard agronomic soil P testing.  相似文献

The sorption of Pb(II), Cr(III) and Cr(VI) from aqueous solution using alum-derived water treatment sludge was investigated using the batch adsorption technique. Samples of sludge from two separate water treatment plants were used (one where alum was used alone and one where it was used in combination with activated C). The sorption characteristics of the two samples were generally very similar. Sorption isotherm data for all three ions fitted equally well to both Freundlich and Langmuir equations. Maximum sorption capacity and indices of sorption intensity both followed the order: Cr(III)?>?Pb(II)?>?Cr(VI). Kinetic data correlated well with a pseudo-second-order kinetic model suggesting the process involved was chemisorption. Sorption was pH-dependant with percentage sorption of Cr(III) and Pb(II) increasing from <30% to 100% between pH?3 and 6 whilst that of Cr(VI) declined greatly between pH?5 and 8. HNO3 at a concentration of 0.1?M was effective at removing sorbed Cr(III) and Pb(II) from the sludge surfaces and regeneration was successful for eight sorption/removal cycles. It was concluded that water treatment sludge is a suitable material from which to develop a low-cost adsorbent for removal of Cr and Pb from wastewater streams.  相似文献
